Reviews for Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa
Review 1:The location was brilliant for exploring the coast - good for walkers. The hotel was very welcoming and dealt with our mattress problem immediately and efficiently.
Review 2:Our breakfast on our 2nd day was slow in arriving and when it did come it was not as warm as it should have been, toast overdone, coffee not decaf as asked for, etc. However resolved by the staff.
Review 3:The relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, fabulous spa facilities, good food and a lovely room. The location is stunning.
Review 4:Would appreciate a sign at the sauna asking guests to sit / lie on a towel for hygenic reasons, as it is common practice. The staff was nice, on a shallow level. Not very helpful but rather just saying some standard sentences that were polite without a genuine attempt to address the questions. A smile wouldn't hurt the young female staff at reception and upper deck, especially during breakfast.
Review 5:The facilities were very clean. Very impressed by the steam room and the salt grotto. Had the best bread (not the toast) outside Germany / Austria for breakfast! In general the quality of food was excellent.
Review 6:Having to go to reception due to them not answering the phone on two separate occasions. Terrible customer service.
Review 7:Food in general is very good. Bed was comfortable.
Review 8:Only family rooms right next door to venue for wedding party with loud music until midnight. Room facilities weren't what was agreed. Childs bed was old and uncomfortable
Review 9:Staff were friendly
Review 10:couldn't get a dinner reservation due to xmas party in hotel. Had to go out for dinner which was a shame as we really wanted to eat in and not have to leave the hotel
Review 11:food, spa & friendly service
Review 12:Lack of day light time to enjoy the views from the restaurant of the Christchurch harbour.
Review 13:Impressive choice and quality of evening meals. Well priced menu with no hidden charges. Staff are very happy to discuss options with you.
Review 14:Lights didn't work properly in bedroom nor did heat. Bed too hard and a banging noise from outside all night
Review 15:Friendly service and view from the room
Review 16:My only points to feedback on are that there needs to be airconditioning throughout the rooms, it was so hot during the night, even having the window open and the desk fan on. Also, I'd of like a firmer pillow as the pillows were far too soft. Also the breakfast was very limited considering it was a buffet breakfast.
Review 17:The staff and facilities were excellent
Review 18:Only stayed for one night, but when we went to book a table for dinner (at around 17.30) we where told that the earliest was 21:45! As it happen this wasn't such a problem as within walking distance we found a great restaurant - The Noisy Lobster.
Review 19:Great hotel in a great location. Breakfast excellent and great service.
Review 20:It was only 21.15 and the bar staff were more interested in getting the area ready for morning breakfast. We asked if we could sit at a normal table to eat our food and we were told no...but we could sit opposite the bar. I understand they only have one main room which is used for dinner and breakfast. However the staff really made my wife and I feel unwelcome. Not what you would expect at these prices...
Review 21:After an issue with the bar staff, the hotel duty manager was very helpful and understanding. 10 out of 10.
Review 22:i wouldn't call it a bad experience more like a grumble but our room was on the small side. The car park was a little tight although there was a wedding function on the first night of our stay.
Review 23:the location is amazing along with the staff. well done everyone. I had left my phone charger behind and your staff very kindly sent it to me. Thankyou.
Review 24:This was our second time at the Hotel, both times have been fantastic and we will return again. The staff, restaurant, pool facilities and rooms are all 10/10
Review 25:Spa great, temperatures in steam room, pool etc all perfect. Superb sitting areas which are ideal for relaxing. Food was well presented and excellent quality.
Review 26:The fact that it wS firstly way too hot, the carpet in the room had bleach everywhere! Most of the staff were not attentive, or friendly and jack customer service. We were seated for 20 mins to get a coffee and bite to eat, there were so many staff walking past, we then had to approach member of staff and ask for service.
Review 27:The look of the hotel, the bar, restaurant and the spa.
Review 28:Awful room - standard room, small which I could cope with but very, very shabby which I was not expecting for the price paid! Two big stains on carpet, paintwork badly chipped, stains all down bathroom door, hole in fabric of one chair & other chair stained! Biscuit crumbs in tray, TV tiny portable - really was not expecting it!
Review 29:Location and hotel were fab.
Review 30:Standard bedroom in need of refurbishment, especially the carpet. Need to upgrade TV.
Review 31:Food was excellent but expensive. Staff were very helpful Location was excellent
Review 32:No complaints or problems
Review 33:We love the location and the hotel is excellent. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant on 2 evenings and the food and choice was very good.
Review 34:Breakfast on Sunday, had to ask 3 times for our order of tea and toast as we seemed to have been forgotten about plus teapot which was filled to deliver 4 servings only had one teabag so had to ask for another, no apologies given by b'fast staff.
Review 35:Excellent location, lovely treatments and spa, gorgeous food, really made our weekend special as we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary
Review 36:Nothing
Review 37:We were very lucky as we received an upgrade to a harbour view room which included a fabulous balcony. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed extremely comfortable. Breakfast very good.
Review 38:Staff were not the most welcoming unfortunately. Being reminded to check out early after only being there for 4 hours 'because they were very busy and had a wedding on' isn't exactly professional and ruined our stay alittle. Parking is very limited. Very limited. Wedding guests do seem to be their priority. Slow service from the upper deck bar staff! Expect this level of service in a 1/2 star hotel.
Review 39:Location great, hotel and gardens very tidy and presentable. Alittle over priced on food!
Review 40:The jacuzzi was closed two out of the three days we were there. The hotel needs renovations (although minor) and drinks were very expensive.
Review 41:Fantastic location, views and friendly staff
Review 42:We were booked in for the first evening meal via a telephone call from you which was a Thursday but not on the Friday which we were told when we arrived was extremely busy and could only fit us in at 6 or 9 pm which certainly wasn't ideal. Although we were told our room would be a little smaller we didn't realize how much smaller, decor was very drab.
Review 43:Location Dining area Food Patio
Review 44:Not really. Only thing I could say we're that the rooms were exceptionally warm rather uncomfortable at night
Review 45:Location comfort and friendliness of staff
Review 46:No help with bags on arrival (wife in bridal gown). No AC. Empty room service trays of food left in corridor for 12+ hours. Uncomfortable beds.
Review 47:Breakfast and spa. Morning staff were very friendly & helpful.
Review 48:no aircon in our room and was restricted to how much the window could be opened. Late booking so took possible worst room. Window looked out onto wall.
Review 49:Hotel (apart from our room) was fantastic
Review 50:The rooms were disappointing. Having stayed at the salcombe harbour hotel in May and absolutely loved everything about it without fault I was hoping this hotel would have the same feeling but found the rooms dark and dreary and location doesn't even compare!! Shame as cost was the same, didn't mind at salcombe because it was so fab!!!
Review 51:Views and food were superb. The staff were also very good and polite and helpful.
Review 52:Beds small why put standard double when in most rooms double bedded rooms there is space for a king size and uncomfortable, too soft.
Review 53:Outdoor area for drinks and dining fab
Review 54:We were turned back at the restaurant because it was fully booked. Hotel guests should have priority or the reception desk should advise customers during the check-in that the restaurant is busy and recommend an early booking.
Review 55:Amazing setting in an amazing location Lovely spa Great design and atmosphere
Review 56:The bathroom was great, but the beds (this is my second time staying here on business) are pretty bad. I actually heard the springs pop as I moved.
Review 57:Restaurant downstairs has great food and the view is fantastic.
Review 58:The room was smaller than expected and view of the harbour wasn't quite as good as hoped for the cost of room and photos of website. Still very much enjoyed stay but think the use of pictures of the best rooms may be a little misleading
Review 59:Use of spa Kind birthday chocolates Excellent location Very comfortable bed Great breakfast
Review 60:Poor staff communication. We could not get a table in the dinning room until 21:30. The staff did not tell us that we could eat in the bar. In the bar we had to ask for a menu, then ask to order only to then have the main course delivered after the starter. Not ideal and not what you would expect of a highly rated hotel. We were also unable to park in the car park as there was insufficient space.
Review 61:Nice location. Lovely pool.
Review 62:The breakfast service needs some attention. When we ordered our cooked breakfast we seldom got exactly what we had ordered - service can definitely be improved.
Review 63:The position was good with a lovely outlook over the water from our room. We enjoyed the daily breakfasts and the one night we did have dinner at the hotel is was very good.
Review 64:It went wrong from the start as this was supposed to be a celebration. The confirmation and the photo on your booking site shows an inland bedroom in neutral colours and a reasonable size window. The room we were given was dark with brown furniture , small and stuffy as the window was small and only opened partially due to security. I experienced a feeling of claustrophobia. The fan was on each night. Who put the photo on the confirmation which misled me? Half board here means you have an allowance towards the evening meal but as all items are a large carte you will be faced with extra charges If the photo had shown the bedroom as dark I would have considered other options. You may say,ask for an other bedroom but that would have been extra,as they were busy and at a thousand a three night stay, that was enough!!
Review 65:The setting is good providing the sun shines. In wet weather it would be very different as the hotel is focused to the outdoors. The staff were good and efficient while being friendly.
Review 66:Each time we used the bar, lounge, or restaurant the staff were distracted and slow. On our last day Around 1.00pm, we ordered coffee on the terrace and never received it but were charged at the bar for it. Then when he tried to refund it the card machine didn't work. We checked out in the end and ate somewhere else for lunch. The coke tasted like watered down soda. We ask for two pots of tea when we arrived at 4.30pm on the first day and the waitress said she would have to go and ask her manager if that was ok ? She never came back, so we re ordered. Our first impression wasn't good therefore.
Review 67:The spa was lovely
Review 68:A few niggles in the room: the duvet was way too warm for August; bathroom light couldn't be switched off except when the key card was removed. The salt room in the spa was rather cold.
Review 69:The location on the harbour; the pool and steam room.
Review 70:Lack of parking spaces when the hotel is very busy.
Review 71:Staff were very efficient and friendly. Hotel was very clean and had a really nice feel and look. Parking was tricky but this may have been down to the wedding that was taking place at the same time as our stay. Very pleasantly surprised that there was no noise from the wedding which is certainly down to the hotel's good management. If you are happy with the price you will like the hotel.
Review 72:Never ever accept Room 311! It's right above the kitchen and so terribly noisy and the room amenities and standard of room compared to other rooms in the hotel was terrible. To charge £200 for that room was an absolute rip-off!
Review 73:The view, the food, the breakfast!
Review 74:No air con but fans in room. Dining room had no air con and doors left open therefore draughty. Spa needs a bit of tile updating under seats by pool.
Review 75:Great food. Delicious breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 76:The lighting in the room took a lot of working out!
Review 77:The location was wonderful with excellent views. The hotel staff were very friendly and the whole stay very relaxed.
Review 78:Some paint works were being performed at the time with scaffolding outside our window. The workman did their best to clear things away at 5pm but some scaffolding was still visible.
Review 79:Great restaurants both the Upper Deck for lunch and The Jetty for dinner. Great wine list.
Review 80:Unfortunately there was no aircon in the rooms just one tiny fan l. We stayed on a boiling night the beginning of July and neither of us could sleep because it was far too hot in the room and uncomfortable for us.
Review 81:The spa is amazing.
Review 82:Heaters in bathroom wouldn't turn off - resorted to pulling out the fuse! Bed very small, room quite compact for the price charged.
Review 83:Spa facilities and waterside location great
Review 84:The pillows look fluffy, but are actually very thin and uncomfortable. The lighting controls in the room are unnecessarily complicated and out of three panels in the room only one worked at all. It was hard to get served at the bar in the late afternoon as the many staff on duty were all preoccupied with serving afternoon tea in the restaurant.
Review 85:The hotel is in a great location, and is undergoing refurbishment to be contemporary and stylish. The staff could not have been more helpful and the food was great.
Review 86:Awful mattress which has to be changed. Standard hotels room not luxurious at all for a luxury hotel. Overall, expensive for what it is.
Review 87:Jetty restaurant and harbour spa
Review 88:Clientele were predominantly old so felt a bit out of place. Bar area could do with more comfortable seating, the long bench style didn't really work.
Review 89:Great location and pleasant styling
Review 90:Trying to park the car! To few spaces! Worst pillows on the planet
Review 91:Location, food, and wonderfull service from Amy the hostess! She should be running this great hotel!!!!
Review 92:Small rooms, no air conditioning, some of the decor in the room was tired. Bed and bedding not comfortable. Breakfast wasn't great, scrambled eggs came looking like the shape of the bowl they were cooked/microwaved in - rubbery in texture.
Review 93:The staff were friendly and attentive, the location was pretty. The hotel bar, restaurant and terrace were nice.
Review 94:Bed was too small - only small double and very hard but low level springs so unstable and extremely uncomfortable. Even a pillow mattress topping would have helped. No running water - water stoppage - between about 10.30 - 12.00 ! Spa & pool area too dark and steam rooom not hot enough.
Review 95:Location & views.. Loungers, seating, outside area, eating options, decor, cleanliness, landscaping, general ambience, Spa & pool.
Review 96:Nothing!
Review 97:We travelled from the USA for a wedding and thought everything about the hotel was superb especially the massage which was one of the best ones I've had!Have to mention the maitre dis who was charming and bent over backwards to accommodate. All in all our stay couldn't have been better!
Review 98:Pillows were too soft. Shower was nice, once you understand how it works. building work, cleaners and gardener showed no consideration for a meting taking place. Noise was irritating and happening all at once.
Review 99:Staff was friendly, Rooms were nice and clean. Beautiful setting, great views. Great choice of breakfast. nice meeting room.
Review 100:Could not find the coffee/tea facilities in the bedroom until next morning. Found in wardrobe. Disappointed by this. As I think it should of been on show in the room. Did not expect to find it in the wardrobe. Went to bed without hot drink. Parking a problem too.
Review 101:Very nice location. Clean and tidy rooms, staff very pleasant and helpful enjoyed my stay
Review 102:Spa was a little overcrowded on Tuesday eve between 4.30 and 5.30. Need to limit numbers to give everyone good experience or to have a separate time for those with children.
Review 103:Location Beautiful Food Delicious Staff first class Service Excellent
Review 104:The room was cramped and not pleasant to spend any time in - therefore we'd describe it as very expensive (have stayed in many 5 star hotels that offer far more for less money). The bed and pillows were way too soft. Breakfast service was slow - perhaps too busy with weddings as there was a different one on each day of our stay. Ordered a medium rare fillet steak and it came medium well - nothing taken off the bill other than the 10% service charge! But cheeky.
Review 105:Location and the decking area
Review 106:A wedding on both days of our stay very inconvenient. Very expensive as prices hiked way above normal and real value for bank holiday weekend. Some of the bar staff were very abrupt with no sense of who was the customer!
Review 107:Location, great food in restaurant, the majority of the staff and service in general
Review 108:The restaurant staff could have been a bit better organised, the service was slow, it took a while to get a table in the morning for breakfast and after waiting for 15 minutes it still wasn't set. They didn't always remove dishes etc. They need to up their game of the staff in the restaurant - apart from that everything was lovely
Review 109:Location was beautiful. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. The staff were very friendly.
Review 110:The bar was quite expensive and English breakfast was a bit mean with the bacon (1 rasher ) and beans ( mini portion ) Communal areas a little tired.
Review 111:We were upgraded to a room with a harbour view which was great! Location , gardens , spa all very good. Staff excellent check in and out smooth
Review 112:Me and my Partener came for a night and spent £215 half a months rent! The sleep was terrible, I've never been so uncomfortable and hot my Partener shared that same experience! The spa facility's I thought would make up for that but half the facility's were not working, steam room and pump in the jacuzzi. Also breakfast was so little for the money which you pay. I've paid half the amount at other places and had a great experience. Overal this was a terrible stay, I would like to think something could be done for bit me and my Partener to make up for it!
Review 113:The sauna
Review 114:The bed and pillows let the room down, the pillows were too soft, with no choice for firmer alternative.
Review 115:The location is stunning, the food , in particular the Jetty restaurant is excellent.
Review 116:Mobile and text very poor service. Wireless system not good. Nearly ALL hotels are guilty of this. About time hotels and techno companies got together and sorted this out once and for all.
Review 117:Very relaxed boutique hotel. Recommend
Review 118:As the room rate was quoted as £320 for the night, I thought I wouldhave something a lot nicer than the reality. The Harbour View room wasdated and looked a little drab it felt small with low ceilings. The ipoddock was old and there was no mini bar, the tv was small, old and thesound quality was dreadful. I so shocked at the cost of this basic roomI called to complain, my call was met with a very apologetic, extremelyhelpful response.
Review 119:Staff fell over themselves to help us. The service at this hotel isexceptional. They dealt with our queries quickly and efficiently. Theymade our stay memorable.
Review 120:The only evening meal other than the food served at the wedding was over-priced for what we had.
Review 121:We were attending a wedding actually held at the home and the whole experience was wonderful.
Review 122:Some of the rooms are not 4 star quality. The parking can be a pain although the staff member on duty tries his best to manage the situation
Review 123:Good Spa, Good location, All the staff were very good and helpful
Review 124:Room with stains all over floor, fiancé had bad back and couldn't even get in shower as bath too high "no decent shower" £20 for 2 glasses of Shiraz, what a joke. Breakfast was cold and awful and our general experience was, unclean, shoddy and badly run
Review 125:This visit we had a booked late, so only an inland room was available, which was very tatty with dust on lampshades, bulbs missing, stains on the carpet, plus a bath so high at the sides we struggled to get in and out..(room was not like that shown on the hotel website for inland), (we also asked on our booking for hypo allergic pillows, but duck ones were provided on arrival), the hotel was so full to capacity, no other room was available for us, which was very disappointing. Car parking needs to be reviewed for non-residents. Upper Deck Restaurant is very hot and uncomfortable in the evening. The General Manager has offered us a £47.50 voucher as compensation for the room issue towards a birthday treat in April booked a while ago.
Review 126:We have been to this hotel many times previously, the location is perfect near the beach and harbour, the staff work very hard to ensure your break is enjoyable. Spa area is very good. Public areas very modern and clean. The Jetty is a lovely restaurant.
Review 127:The bed was a bit small and quite uncomfortable also staff in dining room a bit aloof and felt we were an inconvenience at times food was a bit hit and miss as my steak was tough and bland but my husbands chicken and prawn dish good also a nearly raw sausage at breakfast was served which was sent back but still raw in parts when returned
Review 128:The location and reception staff also the young man / porter the location and spa
Review 129:I booked this hotel for a birthday surprise for my partner. We had a meal a the Jetty resturant before our stay which was lovely but very highly priced. Cannot fault the hotel, the staff, food and rooms were excellent, will be and have already recommendedto family and friends :)
Review 130:Nothing!!!!!
Review 131:The staff have obviously been chosen and trained really well - as all of them had a fantastic attitude, which made our weekend one to remember - we will be back!!!
Review 132:The bed was like sleeping on a marshmallow.......too soft
Review 133:Breakfast looking out to the sea. Sitting by the open fires in the evening. Leisure facilities - swimming and sauna/steam room.
Review 134:the dining room staff were slow and we did not feel that welcome etc, for evening and breakfast, also i dont expect anything for nothing, but did mention it was my partners 50th birthday , which they noted on the phone and four tiny sweets was a touch poor etc as a gift
Review 135:we liked the location, the reception staff and bell boy were good ,
Review 136:A bed that was so uncomfortably soft we couldn't sleep and my girlfriend is waiting for the doctor's report on her back. This is despite others raising the issue and a response stating they would be changed. Would not be acceptable at a £40 b&b so for £200 a night it's unacceptable. Also we were promised someone would contact us but they didn't.
Review 137:Excellent food - dinner and breakfast (although impossible to get warm toast), some friendly staff
Review 138:Over officious reception staff (need to be more about the people rather than process) The bedroom was very small, poor TV, and no bath as advised would have when booking, overall not worth the cost per night.
Review 139:The view from the resturants The 'car park ' 'doorman' very polite and very helpful. Reception staff could do worse than take a leaf out of his book in dealing with people!
Review 140:The main restaurant and bar staff were very unfriendly and waited ages for a drink poor service while they stood chatting
Review 141:Y The jetty restaurant was lovely nice food great service nice atmosphere they couldn't do enough to please you .Also the gym and pool etc were great
Review 142:We were moved after the first night to a smaller room. It was as comfortable and clean as the first but was very shabby and dark- room 210. The wallpaper is scuffed and stained and really didn't fit into the level of the rest of the hotel which was fantastic. Disappointing.
Review 143:Amazing breakfasts with excellent staff especially the Manager who had everything under control and everyone well looked after even on an extremely busy Sunday morning after a wedding. First room we were in was beautiful with amazing view.
Review 144:Service was incredibly slow. We were sat at our table at 8.45 and didn't eat our main course until 10.15. We waited for over an hour for breakfast. Maybe a failure of their own success. Trouble getting into the restaurant to begin with.
Review 145:The food was great when it came, however the wait was far too long.
The Fine Print
For guests that would like to dine at the hotel, tables should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment. From time to time the restaurant may be closed due to events taking place.
