Reviews for Stanton House Hotel

Review 1:Breakfast had dried up so wasnt great but edible no tea or coffee offered I had to ask

Review 2:Hotel style, location, room small but nice, good food. Friendly staff. Nice gardens and lake view, bar was not to expensive either .

Review 3:The room smelt of burnt liquorice, wi-fi would not engage. No non-slip mats in the bath for showering, stains on the bed cover..... very shabby overall.

Review 4:Stanton House is a lovely property on the outside.

Review 5:Nothing negative to report.

Review 6:Comfortable, clean, beautiful surroundings, good breakfast, free wifi, not too far off the beaten track but far enough to be relaxing.

Review 7:Predominantly Far Eastern cuisine and décor to the dining/bar area. I went off site for fish and chips and a pint. TV picture quality poor, as was number of channels available

Review 8:Good sized single room

Review 9:Our room was very comfortable and had a fantastic view of the surrounding countryside and trees, which were perfect for exploring during our stay. The Japanese food in both restaurants was wonderfully authentic.

Review 10:I had to leave at 6am for my onward journey which was before breakfast started, I wasn't offered a take away breakfast but still charged me for it.

Review 11:Location

Review 12:Bar and Restaurant were very sterile. Not welcoming at all. Did not feel comfortable sitting in bar due to decor and surroundings.

Review 13:Our room was very comfortable and clean. Staff were quite friendly and helpful.

Review 14:I didn't like that the bar was not separate to the restaurant, when I was in the restaurant the bar was quite so wasn't a real problem but if it was busy I think it would detract from what is otherwise a lovely dining experience.

Review 15:The hotel was nice, the staff were friendly and I liked the Japanese menu it made a nice change and the food was lovely.

Review 16:excellent position with the park alongside. tried the japanease starters- very good with englishmain meals. a good choice for a halfway break to exmoor- would stay here again

Review 17:Found food little difficult as not had before but staff helped me out

Review 18:Beautiful building and grounds lovely staff liked it being Japanese owned so different

Review 19:Staff were lovely but managment were not. Main bar with proper lounge not open (because of a wedding event) well room open but no bar. Only bar open with next to no seating and very cold / basic was within dining room (well more like a dining hall). If they can't staff a wedding and provide proper services for other paying guests they shouldn't offer both. No mention when booking room that we needed to book restaurant especially the Japanese restuarant they advertise (which is reason we booked and wanted to sample) - but this, we were advised when we enquired at reception, was fully booked and only very small. Breakfast; people were waiting for food to be replenished. Coffee was cold.

Review 20:Setting and buildings are lovely.

Review 21:Room rather dark even with low energy lights on! Obviously so near to Honda works, very geared to Japanese customers.

Review 22:Nice quiet location even with a wedding reception in adjoining building.

Review 23:Some decor tired. My first impression at reception was not good as I stood there and looked at the unclean carpet behind the counter. The staff and overall comfort made up for it.

Review 24:Location, staff,

Review 25:Lacklustre dining room; looks like it started life as a sportshall/gymnasium but wasn't high enough, so someone put a few baretables (and not much else) in it. With still about an hour of thebreakfast period to go, my wife had the last piece of barely-cookedbacon, the last spoonful of beans and the last spoonful of dry scrambledegg. I found a sausage, the last half of a fried egg, and some tastelessmushrooms. The staff clearing the tables looked surprised when asked ifthere was more bacon and said they would ask in the kitchen. After about10 minutes: beans arrived; a few minutes later: egg; and eventually:bacon; all too late for us. We complained to the receptionist with thehelp of a breakfast roll which was so ancient we could use it as ahammer on the counter.

Review 26:Impressive building, picturesque surroundings, well-equipped room withscenic view, comfortable beds, sparkling bathroom, sensibly-priced creamtea. Evening meal was fun with choice of Japanese and Western food. Weeven talked about returning to try the eat-as-much-as-you-can Japanesebuffet on a Thursday. Until the awful eat-what-you-can-find buffetbreakfast, which the hotel subsequently agreed not to charge for.

Review 27:The lady in reception wasn't vey welcoming, I asked for an iron and it didn't appear she was to happy with my request, although the iron turned up rather quickly.

Review 28:The bedroom floor was not very clean and I found bits of plastic on the floor that hadn't been vacuumed. Glad I saw it before I stepped on it! The room looked a little dated. My bedroom window had a huge crack in it and the latch was broken which meant it wouldn't close. Luckily it was a hot night so I didn't get cold, but as it was a ground floor room i was a bit conscious for my safety as anyone could simply climb through the open window. I'm glad I only stayed one night for this reason!

Review 29:The room was a good size for a single room. Lovely bathroom which was clean with a really good powerful hot shower. Tea and coffee facilities in the room which was a bonus. Checked in late at night and staff were very friendly. Loved the style of the building and the gorgeous grounds. I wasn't aware that I was entitled to a 'grab and go' breakfast that, although simple, set me off for the drive to Stratford.

Review 30:Could not access the wifi.

Review 31:Lovely house in beautiful surroundings. Excellent for winding down after a day at work, or for a holiday. The staff were very helpful and professional.

Review 32:There was a definite staff shortage which I feel impacted on the level of service the staff would have liked to deliver but clearly did not have the time to.. On Saturday evening once the main had been delivered we were forgotten about. No one came to ask if we wanted anything else, dessert/coffee. The breakfast on the Sunday morning was a disaster. 2 members of staff, every one arriving for breakfast at once and no one to serve i.e. teas and coffees. We waited 15 mins for ours . In a venue which prides itself on service and uniqueness it failed. We have stayed at Stanton house many times previously albeit a few years ago and was disappointed that the level of service has deteriorated so badly from what it has been. It is a wonderful building in a beautiful location but lacked the delivery. Classic example. On Sunday morning the conservatory was full of empty glasses and plates from the night before and the furniture had not been tidied, i.e chairs put back and tables straightened. it may sound petty but if you want to present an image of splendour and lush then you need to live up to it.

Review 33:The range on the menu is fantastic, however the waiting staff could be better equipped to go through it rather than people having to ask what things are.

Review 34:For first time ever, room service was poor. Missing course and incorrect billing. Poor mobile signal throughout hotel.

Review 35:Location, comfortable room, friendly staff

Review 36:Nothing not to like.

Review 37:The hotel was away from the Moise slept in such that got to be late for the appointment. Great hotel great location and no noise or distractions.

Review 38:Poor wifi reception in room, and no mobile signal...calls had to be made in the car park! But in a broader sense, England in 2015is still way behind other countries...so not a criticism of the hotel alone.

Review 39:Good staff, comfortable bed

Review 40:This hotel offered excellent facilities and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Would recommend to all and would stay here again when in area.

Review 41:Signage for Reception from car park was poor and one had to negotiate a slope. A designated 'drop off' space would be useful especially for older single traveller!

Review 42:Beautiful perennial flower garden Wonderful flower arrangements near the Reception. Walk in Stanton Park and the tranquility of the lake.

Review 43:Bed mattress needed renewing. Not exactly uncomfortable, but felt springs. TV picture was 'snowy' and, frankly, the channels available were few and poor - unnecessary in today's world...please Mr Manager, sort it out!!

Review 44:Location is excellent. Nice old complex.

Review 45:limited mobile signal. I have only ever had one room with constant signal ...... room number is my secret I am afraid. Reception should remember.

Review 46:Clean room, friendly staff, fast check in.

Review 47:Poor welcome at reception.Room was grubby and in need of a refurb.Food and service in restaurant very poor.Staff were totally indifferent.

Review 48:The building and its surrounds

Review 49:I love staying here, and go out of may way to stay whenever I can the food is out of this world- but its best if you like Japanese food! Dinner was excellent, breakfast was excellent The Wifi always works and the staff are always friendly

Review 50:Due to the heatwave there was no air conditioning in room.. WIFI kept on logging out.. The bed was a spring matress which for some maybe ok but I found it to be very uncomfortable

Review 51:Surrounding were very nice, good value, and good food.. Would definately visit again

Review 52:The matteress was uncomfortable, the waiting staff in the resturant were unwilling to accomodate Gluten Free requirements. Overall I was disapointed rather than let down.

Review 53:The location was stunning

Review 54:double bed was two singles. No topper or zip. gap and very uncomfortable. nly one set of towels. Uninspiring staff and atmosphere of poor management and lack of directon. Tables on terrace all full of empty plates and used glasses etc.

Review 55:Excellent japanese cuisine. Efficient reception/checkin

Review 56:No air conditioning, windows did not open, TV was poor and channels poor quality. bar was a long way from seating area.

Review 57:The bedding and bed was very comfortable and the location and building outside was stunning

Review 58:It was a shame the bar in the conservatory was not open, you were allowed to bring in drinks and food from the restaurant/bar though.

Review 59:The grounds were lovely and there was an option to explore the vast park adjacent to the hotel. The staff were friendly. I enjoyed the experience of trying Japanese food. Ample parking here which was good also.

Review 60:free upgrade on second visit, dinner was beautifully cooked, and relaxing on the terrace overlooking the river, something to die for. All the staff are so helpful

Review 61:Not much choice of English food. Mainly Japanese.

Review 62:The Swan room- an amazing 4 poster bed, large terrace, huge room, great furnishings. The outside seating area- and lovely gardens.

Review 63:Bathroom radiator was rusty at the bottom. The bathroom door was peeling up at the bottom. One of the receptionists attitude essca bit officious.

Review 64:The location set in beautiful grounds. Easily accessed from main roads

Review 65:Rooms aren't very well equipped (no shaver point, iron, trouser press, very few sockets), and free WiFi was very slow.

Review 66:The Japanese restaurant was original and good.

Review 67:The rose garden with a small fountain and enormous peonies was idyllic. A slightly quirky, but in a good way, and memorable place. Build in 1920's by a seemingly slightly eccentric wealthy man, it is constructed of Coltswold stone in Edwardian style, clad in wisteria outside and oak/?walnut panels inside. I half expected characters from the Great Gatsby to charleston around the corner and yet it clearly caters for the Japanese Honda plant a few miles away..so slightly discombobulating and other worldly but charming. Exquisite Saxon church next door and village a small walk away.I would recommend it.

Review 68:Seems to be some sort of Japanese convention centre. Not a problem apart from a young lady "shouting the Japanese odds" immediately outside my room. Rapid Japanese dispersal when an inebriated member of a caucasian wedding party insisted on being verbal at dinner time. "Rentagob" is the term that springs to mind. Last but not least I thought the meal definitely was not value for money. Excellent taste and presentation but more like a starter than a main course. Even the extras failed to make much impression. The dessert however was delicious. Kendo Nagasaki.

Review 69:Hotel quite plush. Nice room & bathroom area. Beautiful surroundings. Very good wine waiter service with a smile & a real sense of humour.

Review 70:Reception staff lacked warmth. Told nowhere to store bicycles except in our own rooms! Our pre-booked dining slot was cancelled on arrival, though reinstated after negotiation. Very small bar area with only a few chairs.

Review 71:Beautiful location Good value Great Japanese restaurant

Review 72:Bed was creaky, and a bit saggy. A sign warning that fireworks would be set off right outside our room might have spared us thinking the hotel was exploding!

Review 73:Lovely location, peaceful gardens, good food

Review 74:Staff - the hotel was very understaffed but considering the pressure they were under they were lovely, but time waiting for drinks and food was awful. Restaurant - is Japanese and English which is fine but the menus are mixed together and difficult to read, would be better separating. I've never eaten Japanese so, for me, the menu needed more detail and even possibly pictures (although I'm aware that might not be the classiest way of doing it). I really didn't like the fact that there is a large tv and chairs in the restaurant for guests that are just drinking and watching sport. There just wasn't any atmosphere. They also need more pudding options. They also ran out of Prosecco, it was only 7pm! Room - was lovely, but the bed was hard, the room sweatingly warm and only one plug socket in the corner of the room no where near the dressing table or bedside tables ( they had different sockets, 3 prongs but round) So, this is why I think the hotel is nearly there, just a bit more thought and ensuring enough staff are working and this would be a great hotel. I think if they invested in spa facilities it would be outstanding.

Review 75:The location, setting and decor of the hotel are lovely, in fact beautiful. Rooms are lovely and both our rooms had beautiful views. Definitely value for money.

Review 76:Enjoy staying at this hotel however am forced to stay elsewhere if I know I need good wifi or good mobile signal for teleconference as neither of these can be guaranteed it seems.

Review 77:location, staff, room.

Review 78:Cleanliness of conservatory and room on night 1.

Review 79:Surrounding country park. Car parking. Meals. Friendliness of staff. All great BUT room on 1st night was disappointingly dirty. In fairness the Reception Manageress was keen to please and apologised profusely and upgraded us for the second night.

Review 80:Poor choice of tv & particularly Radio channels. Wi Fi a bit slow.

Review 81:Fantastic selection of top quality Japanese food. Great value, havealready re booked.

Review 82:We attended a wedding at the hotel which was a great day. We had booked the four poster room and when we first walked in we were speechless. It was massive. Would definately recommend and would stay again.

Review 83:Visiting a local business in Swindon. The hotel is set in lovely parkland about 4 miles from the city centre. Ideal base. Great service. Clean and comfortable. Excellent value. Will stay here again on my next visit.

Review 84:Reception adequate but slightly off-hand; restaurant meeter/greeter v helpful but not enough staff on duty to cover large dining room; mobile phone reception v poor

Review 85:group of 6 on business - beds and rooms v comfortable; wifi OK. Japanese dining room a bit of a surprise but good - one person v happy to have a Japanese breakfast!

Review 86:Staff at reception was very poor. They didnt answer the phones when you ring from the room- when i walked over to reception, i found them chatting with staff changing over! I requested for an iron and had to chase twice! I expect better.

Review 87:Facilities are fine

Review 88:I had single room, was a small room but very comfortable and still had a double bed. Really good value and I would stay again. Hotel and grounds are beautiful, I wish I could have had time for a walk.

Review 89:I liked everything!

Review 90:The room was stunning, the restaurant was brilliant and the food delicious. Who knew there was such a stunning place so close to Swindon!

Review 91:The food we had for our main meal was pretty bad considering how much wepaid for it. The chips wern't overally nice. The steak was not bad.The triyaki sauce was very salty and possibly very over kill on salt. The chicken was dry and over cooked.

Review 92:Our room was very nice with a lovely big bath to lie in. Althoughdinner was a wright of the puddings were very nice. The staff areextremely professional, polite and typical japanese etiquette whichgoes a very long way.

Review 93:The conservatory bar .... No ambiance. Could do with a little back ground music. Some blinds to stop the bright sun streaming in. Afternoon teas had not been cleared - untidy.

Review 94:The restaurant food

Review 95:to my liking the arrangement of the dining room was a little bit too bleak. There should have been some flowers, plants, and/or room dividers.

Review 96:staff were very friendly, marvellous quiet location close to the Cotswold woods, excellent japanese dinner, very good selection for english breakfast, typical dishes for japanese breakfast as well, nice for a relaxing stay with walks to the countryside

Review 97:The single rooms are smaller than a Premier Inn - but the location is vastly superior, and the price is almost half that so a great place to stay.

Review 98:The location - very much a country hotel surrounded by fields, rather than the other hotels and pubs that tend to be in the middle of houses or industrial estates. Plenty of free parking, nice atmosphere and a great choice of food. The price is always reasonable compared to other chains.

Review 99:We mostly liked the staff as they were friendly the rooms were amazing beds were very comfy even the sofa we had was comfy too would definitely recommend staying

Review 100:Restaurant menu, There was a wedding fayre on & was not told about this before we booked & told to have breakfast in our rooms Charge for room service & never came back to collect the tray with food still on it 12 hours later. Restaurant & orangery was cold, no heating on. TV channels were poor

Review 101:The size of space in the rooms

Review 102:Breakfast was OK, a hot buffet and most hot things had been sitting there a while so were a bit stewed. Nothing too serious but not as good as freshly cooked.

Review 103:The building was very nice and the rooms pleasant and clean. The staff were very nice.

Review 104:Poor quality TV reception. Minimal wardrobe space.

Review 105:Great value for money, in beautiful surroundings. Excellent food, comfortable rooms. Courteous, friendly staff.

Review 106:They need more people on reception as there is only one person at a time to attend to (sometimes) a long queue of people.

Review 107:Location, views, staff friendliness and helpfulness. Good Restaurant as well.

Review 108:I'd read about poor wifi connection and poor mobile signal..I thought it couldn't be that bad but it really was..As I was there for leisure not business the wifi wasn't really much of an issue but the mobile signal was! It really was as bad as previous people had said..I had to keep going outside ( freezing cold) running up hills in search of a signal and a couple of times I was lucky but overall it was terrible..I mean like no signal or wifi at all..The hotel provides free wifi..you just have to find it ;) I was getting txt messages coming through on the Sunday when I left from the Saturday..I couldn't make a phone call nor check emails.. :( even in the main part of the hotel you couldn't get wifi or signal..So if you truly want to get away from it all and not be disturbed ( like at all!!) then this is the place for you..It's such a shame as I won't be returning because of this..unfortunately I need to be contactable on my phone always ..:(

Review 109:The staff were really helpful&friendly..The room was comfortable and clean if a little outdated..Everything you could need was in the room..The grounds were beautiful..The breakfast was yummy..It was a really quiet and relaxing stay..

Review 110:nothing

Review 111:The staff at this hotel were excellent , very smart , polite and friendly and the service was top notch. The food was of a very high standard and remarkable good value

Review 112:It was a surprise to discover that the hotel is owned by Honda to serve their factory which is nearby. Therefore, everything is also in Japanese, including the menu. The meal was excellent and the (Japanese) waiter showed me how to use chopsticks properly.

Review 113:Prices for the meal was unexpected and very small portions better price on the drinks I would of recommended to a lot of friends.more tv channels would of been good also

Review 114:Veiw was great.very big room. & quiet.

Review 115:No separate bar area to relax - all part of the open plan restaurant.

Review 116:Nice clean, comfortable room with excellent bathroom Restaurant food of great quality. Very friendly & helpful staff

Review 117:Big focus on Japanese food - whilst other alternatives were available it felt odd that the menus were combined Property was very comfortable for a night but wouldn't choose to stay there longer than that - decor was quite tired

Review 118:Good location for me Friendly staff Good value

Review 119:Room service is only served up to 22 00 hours and I arrived at 22 10 hours and was unable to get any food. Bed was too soft for my comfort.

Review 120:Warm room, clean facilities and good breakfast selection in restaurant.

Review 121:Travel cot mattress provided was the size of a pillow! Used three which worked OK for our 11 month old. Perhaps a little corporate - not much character other than the frontage.

Review 122:Lovely location on a country park Large comfortable room Clean Friendly staff - quick and efficient. Nice restaurant with varied menu.

Review 123:room is too samll, the TV is old, the bath room's ventilation fan is too noizy

Review 124:good environment, big park, good breakfast suitable for Asian people

Review 125:Badly organised billing, Made my guy who was staying there pay for the room as well as charging the company card - still waiting for this to be sorted and a vat invoice 5 days later not a huge thing but really annoying when it should be really simple

Review 126:very limited mobile phone signal, Internet service undergoing update so service poor.

Review 127:Frendly staff, Efficient and quick check in and out, Comfortable room, warm in cold weather, Very good room service meals, Great Japanese restaurant

Review 128:Attitude of the female receptionist on the morning I checked out. For a receptionist to have attitude like that beats me, when she is the face of the organisation. Needs serious training.

Review 129:Nice surroundings

Review 130:The very poor mobile phone reception in this area I had to go out into the car park to pick up a signal. In some cases this could be a benefit.

Review 131:The peace and quiet

Review 132:No mobile signal in most of hotel. Internet servive (under review I am informed) is not consistant.

Review 133:Staff helpful. Room comfortable and well maintained. Location near Swindon, in country setting

Review 134:It is luxury close to central Swindon by car 7 mins for business Location and grounds give you a treat ready for business close to central Swindon. Far better than premier Inn price was unbelievably cheap

Review 135:Room a bit hot, even with heat turned off. Lighting not too helpful, needed main light on, difficult to read with bedside light.

Review 136:Spacious room. Good view. Tasty breakfast with reasonable choice, though coffee not so good. Hot choc (Fairtrade so extra good!) in room as well as tea and coffee. Staff friendly and efficient. Comfy bed.
