Reviews for Spilman Hotel
Review 1:Very awkward to park in own car park ie narrow entrance. There is no lift, but I suppose I could have asked for lower floor due to my breathing problems.
Review 2:Homely welcome. Good choice of food at breakfast. Bar and Lounge area sufficient. Good secure parking. see opposite.
Review 3:The entrance to the car park, would stay again but park in a carpark near by. Too stressful to get in, getting out easy
Review 4:All staff excellent and bed very comfy
Review 5:The location was superb. Walking distance from the train station and 2 min walk.. And you're in the town!! The breakfast was just right, im a vegetarain and they took care if that really well. Thumbs up!
Review 6:Hotel and staff were faultless and will keep coming back.
Review 7:We have stayed here on many an occasion without a hitch, and we are very happy there and will keep coming back to Spilman Hotel, highly recommend.
Review 8:Our room was outside of the main hotel. We had to go outside through a parking lot and use exterior metal stairs to enter the building where our room was located.
Review 9:Friendly staff, good breakfast and clean room.
Review 10:No evening restaurant. Only bottled beer Very narrow and difficult entrance to the car park
Review 11:Big well appointed bedroom. Central location in the town
Review 12:Extremely tight narrow entrance to car park ( I was informed of this by the receptionist, but not in hotel advertisements before booking.
Review 13:Good big room and bathroom, nicely decorated and furnished.
Review 14:The secure car park should be avoided if you have a large car. Getting into the car park , stops the passers by and is a spectator sport.
Review 15:Spotlessly clean. Good room and facilities. Excellent breakfast. Exceptional Value.
Review 16:The room was spacious and well appointed. The breakfast had a good choice and all the items were well cooked. The staff were friendly and helpful. Getting into the car park is interesting - narrow passage, but not unexpected in period streets of an old town.
Review 17:Wifi was poor in the annex. The front door on the annex noisy when closing. I think calling the rooms in the annex as "Executive Rooms" is possibly going too far, they are good but not really better than standard rooms in most modern hotels.
Review 18:The service is very good from the staff and we had a comfortable stay. Breakfast was very good. Have stayed before and would stay again.
Review 19:Parking is a squeeze through very narrow entrance (my big car needed a three-point entrance manoeuvre)
Review 20:Quality breakfast Excellent room at the back Big TV in the room (RWC semi final :)) Far better value than other hotels in Carmarthen
Review 21:The person in the next room to us kept us awake with noise and banging their door at 3.20am
Review 22:The room was clean and tidy the staff helpful breakfast was good and close to shops and restaurants
Review 23:A power shower would be nice but the shower was perfectly adequate. The car park is a bit difficult to access.
Review 24:Hotel was clean and welcoming. We were in room 8. Room and bathroom were clean, spacious and pleasing to the eye. No noise from outside. Comfortable bed. Nice breakfast menu. Tasted delicious.
Review 25:Could not find any faults.
Review 26:Spotlessly clean Hotel, lovely breakfast, friendly staff. Nice to sit and chat with the owners in the bar after a day out. The attention to detail and colour co-ordination in the room is lovely. Luxury comfortable beds. An UNLOCKED small fridge with bottled water, milk and GLASS glasses. Secure car park. Quiet central location.
Review 27:Fabulous welcome by owner who directed us to the private car park.Very helpful staff and excellent room facilities. Will definitely use the hotel again.
Review 28:Avoid Saturday nights in Room 24. Fronts onto high street opposite Wetherspoons with night club just down road. Car parking gates close between 11pm-7am and our rooms were in an annex 'outside' the gate meaning we would had no access to car or main hotel for an early start or emergency.
Review 29:Room 25 excellent. Quiet. Comfy. Spacious.
Review 30:The hotel was conveniently situated yet easy to find and with free on-site secure parking. Our room was spacious, quiet, clean and comfortable, and the included breakfast delicious and plentiful.
Review 31:As an Asian living western way of life in England for over 40 years I found the Local people in the street and shops were not as friendly as in south Wales and at times intimidating.
Review 32:Staffs were excellent , local restaurants serve good quality food, lot's of bar's and cash points for a nice break
Review 33:no facility for dinner in the evening Room located away from hotel, had to walk through car park in the rain to get to breakfast, also room up steel stairs, not very accessible for all travellers
Review 34:Nice big room,
Review 35:The vent in the bathroom was very loud. On our check out day, we reported it to the staff and they affirmed that they would check it and change it out. Very minor thing.
Review 36:The staff were very helpful, the room was large and roomy. We were in the building behind the main hotel and it was very quiet and relaxing. The breakfast was delicious. It was an amazing stay. When we left, we wished our stay could have been longer.
Review 37:All good. No complaints at all.
Review 38:Such a convenient location within the town. Lots of eating places very close by. Good comfortable room with excellent facilities, very nice breakfast cooked to order. The secure on-site parking is a bonus.
Review 39:Street noise was a bit noisy. Had a drink in the bar one night and it felt as if we were intruding on the owners private sitting room.
Review 40:Good sized room and handy location.
Review 41:Car park entrance is very tight. Ideal to have someone to watch and guide you in. Car park is a good size once in.
Review 42:Good location for walking around the town to sightseeing and restaurants.
Review 43:thought we,d booked for £63, then were charged £75.....not a problem.Very tight entrance to hotel car park.
Review 44:easy access to various drinking establishments.
Review 45:Absolutely nothing
Review 46:I couldn't find a single thing to criticise at this hotel; friendly helpful staff, great room, parking on site, super breakfast, and central to the town. Brilliant
Review 47:access to car park too tight for my car
Review 48:Very well equipped rooms well serviced. Staff are always very helpful and friendly. My television had been disconnected by a previous occupant and the receptionist quickly attended to the problem which he resolved
Review 49:very narrow entrance to car park - luckily I took a small car.
Review 50:nice spacious room. very central location. good soundproofing in bedrooms. secure parking on site.
Review 51:We liked the friendly atmosphere and the lady on duty at reception and breakfast was very helpful. The hotel is in the centre of town but at the same time quiet. Car parking at the rear was useful.
Review 52:The only caveat would be the extremely narrow and angled carpark entrance ... ok, ok I scratched the car! Those with larger vehicles, (or the simply careless like me) would be recommended to either park off-site in the adjacent public car park or seek an alternative. Other than that - extremely good value.
Review 53:Could not really fault the hotel; room was fine, breakfast was very good, as was the service... and the whole place was spotless. Very central location.
Review 54:Warned that car park entrance narrow, but this did not prepare for the actuality! Scraped my car badly, as did the car that followed me in, therefore would not stay here again. Room cold in evening. Heating not on.
Review 55:Quiet room. Very good breakfast.
Review 56:Access to hotel parking is not the easiest but we were informed of this on arrival.
Review 57:Location to the town of Camarthen is excellent. Well appointed dining room. Lovely refurbished en suite.
Review 58:Only a small personal niggle,we found bedroom too warm.
Review 59:Booked last minute, pleasantly surprised on arrival.Staff were great, room was clean and comfy, breakfast was made with quality ingredients and location was really good.
Review 60:Wifi is a little unreliable. Car park to the rear is tight some drivers may struggle.
Review 61:The hotel was in a great location and a co-op just to the rear for little nessesities. The breakfast was brilliant, the staff were friendly and very quick with service.
Review 62:Only the weather, but it did not deter what we wanted to do.
Review 63:Easy bus transport to the NT site at Llandeilo. The ambience of an old historical town. The amazing choice of shops & pubs on our wet day.. The proximity of both rail & bus stations.
Review 64:Couldn't take payment upon arrival; sorted out in the morning. Plug sockets in room were so far away from dressing table and mirror that I had to guess drying my hair.
Review 65:Lovely stay. Extremely comfortable bed and linens, so quiet and peaceful. Lovely breakfast!
Review 66:A little pre-warning about access to the car park and how narrow the entrance was would have been useful. Please don't just serve 2 pieces of toast at breakfast to a single diner, although to be fair I didn't ask for more later. It gives the impression of being miserly! Reception wasn't clear on entry through the front door.
Review 67:Room with access from car park was decent size and convenient. Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly. The location to eateries and pubs was excellent,
Review 68:Losing the back of my wing mirror on the way into the car park...I'm not the first and will not be the last. It's sooooo narrow for even and average size car. So my poorly car took refuge in the local public car park for the second night, didn't want to risk it again! It seems this hotel might only have 1 member of staff available at any time so didn't get the friendly face on my way in and out like you might expect.
Review 69:Fairly modern room that was nice and clean, with usual facilities. Free wi-fi was great.
Review 70:Getting the car into the yard at the rear can be a mission and getting out in the morning can be difficult with vehicles unloading.
Review 71:The centre of Carmarthen is 5 minute's walk away and the station 10. Wetherspoons is just across the road/
Review 72:The room had a shower - we assumed the 'superior' room would have a bath.
Review 73:Good location, free parking, great breakfast with very friendly staff. We had a large room in the annexe which was nice and spacious.
Review 74:As stated by others the entrance to the car park is very tight but if you take car it's OK.
Review 75:Excellent staff who couldn't have been more friendly. Great room and good facilities in general
Review 76:Scratched my car driving into the very narrow car park entrance, looks like I wasnt the only one, judging by all the marks on the entrance walls, informed staff, who proceeded to show me a printed diagram of the technique of driving through the entrance, would have been great to know before I'd arrived!!
Review 77:Car Park! Very narrow entrance, I tried but decided against it - however a non issue really, as the local St Peter's overnight stay car park is only £2.30 for 24 hours anyway.
Review 78:Staff were lovely and helpful, room was very clean. Breakfast was lovely.
Review 79:The car park is a bit awkward to get into, but there is cheap long stay car parking very nearby.
Review 80:Staff are very helpful and friendly and the room was spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable.
Review 81:Convenient location, easy, uphill walk from train station, or cheap taxi from station. comfortable bed, excellent, spacious room in the annexe at the rear of the hotel. I will definitely be back and recommend The Spilman to everyone
Review 82:The car park was a nightmare to get into as the entrance is so narrow - one other car had a scrape down the side where it had connected with the wall whilst we were there
Review 83:The hotel is convenient for the town, the staff are very pleasant but non intrusive. Good breakfast with plenty of choice but the the service is a little too quick.. ( it would be better if guests could finish their cereal before the cooked breakfast arrives and is left to cool on the table)Comfortable clean room.
Review 84:The car entrance being in my big 4x4 it's was not easy Breakfast was not the best but Ok
Review 85:Weatherspoons across the road Staff on arrival was superb Room was big comfortable and warm Very nice hotel
Review 86:I stayed in room 1 and the wifi signal in the room was not good enough to connect to the internet or to receive emails.
Review 87:Only a few minutes from the train and bus stations. Very clean and comfortable accommodation. TV with all the normal free Freeview channels
Review 88:Cold room when arrived Even colder during the night as the heating is turned off! Radiator not sufficient to heat room even with temperature on maximum No heating in bathroom Pipes/radiator noisy when they come on in the morning Would rather pay more money and be warm
Review 89:Value for money for a 3 star Lovely waitress at breakfast Clean
Review 90:Sitting in the lounge/bar... I did feel as though I was intruding on a couple in their living room.... Didn't expect that from a hotel!!
Review 91:Nice decor.... Lovely spacious room.... Good breakfast.... Great to park on site and be so close to town!
Review 92:Bit surprised to be directed outside the hotel & up metal staircase to an annexe but once inside the twin room was huge with one of the beds in a completely separate room, which was an unexpected bonus.
Review 93:Warm greeting, despite arriving pretty late and a good suggestion of where to go to eat very close by.Very friendly service at breakfast. Had read about the challenges of the carpark but very clear directions meant it wasn't a problem at all. Would definitely stay again.
Review 94:Just yards away from the shopping/restaurant area. Hotel car park is good right in the town centre.Good location to go to Laugharne to see Dylan Thomas's stuff
Review 95:Nothing that we really didn't like, however if we have to be very picky, it would have been nice to have the choice of a warm crusty roll for breakfast instead of just toast. But the toast was perfectly adequate.
Review 96:The rooms were beautifully clean, comfortable bed, tea/coffee facilities laid out nicely. Good full English breakfast cooked according to your choice of ingredients.
Review 97:Parking access, as others have said, is tricky but not impossible. If I had been travelling alone, I would have liked the option of eating in.
Review 98:Great location for working in Carmarthen. Easy access to good restaurants.
Review 99:We had a lovely friendly welcome, into their family run hotel, which we felt was a lovely place to be. Lovely room. We even had a fridge in our room, with a bottle of water, and milk, to make a cup of coffee. Lovely breakfast in the morning, serviced by a lovely waitress. Would deffo stay again if we were in that neck of the woods.
Review 100:Entering the parking lot down the narrow alley way was a new and somewhat frightening experience for us, especially since we were driving a rental car. Carrying our heavy luggage up a flight of stairs.
Review 101:Breakfast was great. Room was small but comfortable. Appreciated the wi fi and the easy walking distance to restaurants in the city.
Review 102:Nothing
Review 103:Lovely friendly guest house, fresh breakfast and fridge in room really useful. In the centre of town and close to pubs eateries and the train station
Review 104:prefer bath to shower as personal choice, need electric point nearer to mirror for hair drier
Review 105:fridge in room for milk and water, small ironing board in wardrobe, additional pillows, comfortable bed, good lights in bathroom. Helpful tip about eating out, friendly staff and availability of range of cooked breakfast
Review 106:there was nothing i didnt like.
Review 107:location, really friendly welcome, lovely room and shower. front of desk first class, breakfast was great and breakfast staff excellent. loved it. i look forward to staying again soon.
Review 108:The entrance to the car park is through an extremely narrow archway. The location and surrounding stone buildings does limited internet use.
Review 109:Absolutely everything, and I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Review 110:Early finish times for breakfast service.
Review 111:I arrived 10mins late at the end of breakfast service (I was confused and thought it was the weekend!) Staff were very polite and even offered me toast, despite my being late.
Review 112:Child/children nearby (next room?)running about at 10:30pm to after 11:15pm and then again around 5:00am for about an hour. We'd had a very long day and were very tired so had gone to bed before 10:00pm and were woken up and could not go back to sleep for a long while on the 2 occasions.
Review 113:The room was excellent well provisioned, light and airy and very comfortable. The breakfast was good too!
Review 114:Nothing to report
Review 115:Excellent location - in the centre of town Room and facilities excellent value for money Staff very helpful and take note of visitors comments Overall an excellent visit
Review 116:Car Park entrance not wide enough for 4x4 so had to use public car park Noisy with room at back of the hotel near the high street
Review 117:Rooms excellent - size and facilities Breakfast very good Staff very friendly Very clean and well kept hotel
Review 118:Bathroom towels were a bit suspect
Review 119:It had ample parking, although narrow to get into Breakfast was cooked to order and tasted lovely Bedroom and bathroom were spacious Bonus we had a fridge Had TV and wifi, didn't use either
Review 120:Heater is off during August though it was quite cold during our visit however on request we were promptly provided with a portable heater so it was sorted eventually, the bed linen is not changed or made as part of room service , really tight entrance to parking though to be fair there was plenty of warning and advice about this on the website
Review 121:Good central location , well appointed large rooms (both executive and standard double) , friendly and helpful staff
Review 122:Overall the Hotel was very nice and comfortable. We were a little dissaointed as we had travelled from Channnel Islands that day to find that we had been allocated a room overlooking the Car Park. As first time visitors to Hotel it might have been more forward thinking to give us one of the rooms overlooking the front of the Hotel, however once we got off to sleep the people ouside our window smoking and drinking did not seem to bother us. The other slight problem with Hotel was the very narrow passage into the Car Park which ahd we known was soo narrow we would have asked Hire Car Company to give us smaller car.
Review 123:The location and the Breakfast was nice.
Review 124:The only thing we didn't like was one man on his own talking across tables with another couple very loudly, at breakfast time, but that's not the fault of the hotel, just inconsideration for other guests by the people in question. Having said that - some people like breakfast in peace and others like to chat - a bit quieter would have been good!
Review 125:Large room, comfy bed, very helpful and friendly staff. Good breakfast. Didn't know what to expect from a town centre hotel, but we were made to feel very welcome and staff went out of their way to help with local info and directions. Thank you!
Review 126:Great location, for shopping bars and restaurants, very friendly helpful staff. Good breakfast. Executive room was nice and comfortable. Secure parking gates closed at 11pm. Would use this hotel again.
Review 127:Couldn't get online although the network was discoverable. Full breakfast: The sausages were rubbery and difficult to cut, the mushrooms were cold and the hash brown was small and soggy rather than crisp.
Review 128:Our room was at ground level in the annexe and overlooked driveway into car park so we expected it to be noisy but it wasn't a problem. The room was spotlessly clean and the reception and waiting staff were polite, friendly and very helpful.
Review 129:Noise of traffic outside our room. It was very hot the night we stayed so we had to open the windows, thus the noise !! Luckily we took earplugs.
Review 130:Nice spacious room, comfortable bed, Good size bathroom, very nice English breakfast.
Review 131:Access into the car park is VERY tight requiring skilled manouvreing especially for a big vehicle.
Review 132:Good central Carmarthen hotel with nice quiet room at back and good bed, TV and en suite. Fine breakfast with local produce but average (ie: not good enough) tea and coffee. Free strong wifi and good value for our 3 night stay.
Review 133:Didn't like the noise from the road outside, window was secondary glazed but it was hot during our stay and although there was a fan, it was too small for the size of the room.So window needed to be open.
Review 134:No biscuits with tea tray. The parking directions and specific instructions for entering the car park should be on the web
Review 135:Location, location, very good wifi in the anex
Review 136:Scaffolding outside our room, bit of a shock, luckily it was only for painting not hammering & banging!
Review 137:Fab hotel, central location. Lovely room. Staff amazing. Breakfast second to none. Nice surprise to find fridge in our room. Huge bathroom, everywhere so clean.
Review 138:Liked everything only down side was getting in to car park but if you take your time it's not that bad but when inside it's really secure
Review 139:Location was good right in the heart of everything room was great as well as staff
