Reviews for The Smugglers Inn
Review 1:Manager of pub very welcoming and attentive to our needs. Food was superb - try the veg casserole this winter. Brilliant after a walk on the cliffs and beach
Review 2:My Husband and I are getting on in years and I had just had a new knee and found the car park was not good for us I explains this to the manager but did not get any help to carry our luggage it took us 30 mins to unload an re load after our stay so do not recommend to older people
Review 3:It was so friendly great fire to sit by and have a drink and the prices are very good the meals are very good and very reasonable price and cooked to perfection
Review 4:The pub needs more of a lounge area where there is more comfortable seating . Some of the bar staff need to be trained how to be a little bit more friendly and polite
Review 5:the location the atmosphere some of the staff were very nice Karen and Mike and Gary were very professional and helpful.
Review 6:Too busy, even though we booked a table, we had to wait a while due to how busy it was. The staff managed well, but not able to be attentive, but I feel that an extra staff member may have made this better.
Review 7:Loved the quaint bedrooms, and what's not to love about the location.
Review 8:Evening meal was horrible apology and refund accepted. Dirty room windows, rubbish piled just outside the entrance door to room staircase. (fire hazard) View from our room through filthy window was piles of recycled cardboard. Not easily accessible for those with poor mobility as adjoining slope is blocked by a car. Car park not secured at night as otherwise sign posted. Room power sockets in the wrong place for hairdryer. Poor shower head no adjustment. Tired looking bathroom
Review 9:Fab Breakfast. Friendly Staff Nice pillows Great views from carpark
Review 10:Price of drinks a bit steep - £6.10 for large white wine, £4.65 pint of lager. Breakfast was poor by comparison - "crispy" bacon nearly raw, scrambled eggs not fresh, potatoes wrong sort, etc.
Review 11:Evening meal, with family, was very good in choice and quality. Room was comfortable and quiet, although no air con - would probably suffer if weather had been hotter.
Review 12:Nothing noteworthy.
Review 13:Idilic building in a beautiful location. We used this as our base for touring for a week from1st to 8th Aug. The place is enchanting, the staff wonderful and the food amazing.
Review 14:We had dinner at the hotel and the food was very nice. The bed very comfortable and hotel clean. The staff were very pleasant and helpful especially Garry. We will definitely book again.
Review 15:The weather was not very good so maybe the staff could focus on arranging better weather. I somehow don't think that will be possible.
Review 16:The breakfast was especially good and although our rooms would not be ready for occupation until 3pm we could use the rooms for a quick change before we went out. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Thank You
Review 17:Leaving
Review 18:We were made welcome as soon as we arrived, the bedroom was clean and comfortable and the food excellent. Would go back for the breakfast alone.
Review 19:Down to earth and spectacular all at the same time!! Staff-friendly, attentive. Didn't see landlord though?? Can't wait for summer with the building work completed :-) x
Review 20:The fact that we were not informed of the construction work that was going on to reinforce the banks of the stream, very disappointing. Also the inn ran out of things on the two days we were there, the ales on draught..they only had, one ale they had run out of the others until the following day,no back bacon for breakfast on the first day either, puddings some of the pies all these things were on the menu but when asked for them we were often told they had" run out sorry".Very dissapointing!!
Review 21:The plumbing - very noisy. Cisterns took a long time to re-fill. Bathroom fan in room 2 not working. (forget to mention to staff before leaving)
Review 22:The breakfast
Review 23:Work is being carried out outside to reinforce the banks of the river, already this is looking lovely. It will be lovely to sit out when finished.
Review 24:Staff where polite and helpful a special thanks to Karen who gave us advise about the area and was is an asset for the company. The food was enjoyable and local beer tasty.
Review 25:Needs to be a sectioned off area for resident/guests to park, preferably with sea view. Clientel can use back of CP. UHT Milk in rooms needs to be removed if not used as goes off! Small bunch flowers & some fruit in room would round it off. Waste bin in room would be a bonus.
Review 26:Lunch & breakfast excellent. Staff friendly, informative and efficient,y attentive. Beers, ciders & wines not extensive but perfectly good quality and adequate...remember this is a pub. Guest rooms nicely appointed with good cotton bedding.
Review 27:The building site outside (and I was not made aware on booking) although there is now a general open letter on their website but not on booking.com website.
Review 28:The bed was comfy and the staff friendly - good breakfast.
Review 29:The pub is trying to be a restaurant and doesn't succeed at either. The comfort inside is off the scale poor and crying out for some imagination and investment. If some greedy people spent some money they could do the place justice.
Review 30:Great natural location spoilt by lack of investment. The ice cream shop at the end of the bay is a sad reflection of the pub which is very sad. The hills and the walking are to die for and worth the trouble by far.
Review 31:The outside was looking rather tired with broken hand rails, uncompleted building works and ugly red safety tape everywhere. Doors that didn't close properly and slammed all night in the wind. Generally disappointing.
Review 32:Enjoyed the quiz night. Good food and very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 33:With only four rooms this place is focusing on being a restaurant to the detriment of its ability to look after overnight guests. Outdoor settings were in poor to dangerous condition. We got the impression, that we didn't matter!!!!
Review 34:good food
Review 35:Room fine but you can hear all that is going on in the restaurant below ............but it is an extremely old and enchanting building...
Review 36:Fab Location Excellent Staff Very Dog Friendly Great Breakfast , and generally food very good , as we had dinner the night before
Review 37:The car park was up a relatively steep slope, which made access a little difficult for our friends who have some walking difficulties. The cases had to be carried, as there was no easy vehicular access to the front door.
Review 38:A lovely old inn in a beautiful location, and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 39:If you have any mobility problems, don't go there. The Car Park is a distance away down steep steps, some have no handrails ,(from car park to road)
Review 40:Staff, food, room . All good but it must be remembered it is what it says, the Smugglers Inn -The clue is in the name!!! It's very old but absolutely charming.
Review 41:Too systems driven We were not recognised as guests and were asked for our data each time we ordered food and drink staff chatting to guests for longtime before acknowledging us Did not feel cared for or valued - one breakfast only Door locked into breakfast area
Review 42:Location Room 5 Efficiency of management hands on for two of our three days Personality of the manager day three
Review 43:We couldn't fault anything.
Review 44:The staff were very friendly and helpful, the location was great, peaceful and by the coast. The Inn was an amazing country pub, cosy and welcoming, with a lovely garden away from the road with a stream running through. Our room was very nicely decorated, comfortable bed and very nice bathroom. Our little dog was made very welcome, offered a sausage for breakfast. Good location for dog walking.
Review 45:Our bathroom was rather tired looking, with old tiling and paintwork, a big chip missing from the bath and the laminate 'wood' flooring needed replacing. Some money appears to have been spent on nice taps though! However, it was very clean so not too much of a problem but for £100 a night I would expect a nicer bathroom. The bedroom was nicely furnished though and looked as if it had been more recently decorated. The food was okay, but not outstanding. We did mention to the very nice waitress that my partner's meal was not very good on the Saturday evening and immediately she offered to take this off our bill. It was very busy but the service was excellent and the staff friendly and efficient.
Review 46:The lady who checked us in and served at breakfast was very friendly and helpful. The staff serving at dinner Saturday night were also lovely. The hotel is situated in a beautiful spot with lovely walks on the cliffs right by the hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable with lovely soft clean immaculate bed linen.
Review 47:Noisy generator. Also, people were smoking right outside our window late at night and smoke came in to our room.
Review 48:Excellent breakfast, lovely staff, stunning views.
Review 49:A bit tatty round the edges in the bar and eating areas and the bedrooms - but that in itself adds a bit of charm as it's an old-fashioned pub.
Review 50:Location (better than the beach side pub in Lulworth Cove as the beach is too frenetic), beer choice and quality, and the beer garden at the back. Nice bedrooms, though a bit tatty.
Review 51:Nothing.
Review 52:The whole experience was very god. The rest of our family were camping so we chose the pub camping!! When the family were washed out with gales and rain your staff came to their help, allowing them access for breakfast and somewhere warm and dry for a couple of hours. The staff were so kind and helpful
Review 53:the smugglers is situated a short walk to a pebble beach, perfect for an after dinner wonder to. the bed we had was super comfy and the room was light and airy with wooden floors. We had an evening meal and it was very tasty. massive piece of fish with chips, and giant sausage with creamy mash. the staff are very friendly and recommended other sights to see nearby. a very relaxing stay.
Review 54:Bedroom very hot as window only opened a few inches but was a fan in the room.
Review 55:Great location, lovely building with stream running through the grounds, great surroundings. Very friendly, helpful staff. Food good. Busy pub but not over noisy.
Review 56:-doors banging in the night -the room needs a fan as it got very hot. -the view was not very nice.
Review 57:-lovely location -fantastic breakfast -size of the room was great -when there is no banging doors, the room is actually very quite.
Review 58:How approachable and helpful the staff were with any issues/problems that arose. The location was brilliant as it offered lots of attractions and places to visit.
Review 59:Restaurant menu caters for all occasions and food is nice but choices a bit limited for a special dinner. Specials were the same both nights, specials or just a bit more of the menu?
Review 60:Room was superb and breakfast was fantastic, location perfect for relaxing break with great country walks
Review 61:The menu is unexciting if you like more that standard pub food. I find it remarkable that a restaurant so close to many fishing harbors did not offer any fresh fish or shellfish dishes as a main course other than fish pie. At £100 a night it is overpriced.
Review 62:The bar was nice but much of the 13th century is gone. The the people serving were very friendly and attentive. The food was OK but standard fare for that type of establishment. The room was very nice and was cleaned and changed daily. It's location is fantastic and is right on the South Coastal Route so ideal for walkers. Their breakfast is exceptional good.
Review 63:Leaving.
Review 64:Fabulous location, and a very nice welcoming establishment. The food was excellent, as we're the selection of real ales. My 11 year old has a good palette and rated his food as the best he's had. (He had a lasagne for dinner and smoked salmon and eggs for breakfast). Definately going again!
Review 65:Very beautiful and dog friendly! Great food, nice rooms, excellent location - will come back!
Review 66:We really loved the open fire
