Reviews for The Crown Hotel
Review 1:sometimes a bit noisy from town late at night, but you are right in the town where the action is.
Review 2:stayed here many times, good location for shops, pubs and harbour. friendly staff
Review 3:really great clean hotel, the breakfasts were excellent.the staff were helpful and friendly, This was our second visit ,and better because it wasn't so full as august.
Review 4:Nothing
Review 5:Everything the staff management you are made to feel welcome it is run like a family hotel Jamal is great reception staff bar staff restaurant staff great happy to help love the place
Review 6:The location, food and staff was all very very good and the overall comfort and relaxed atmosphere always brings us back time and again. Such a lovely place to stay, Thank you.
Review 7:Just a bit of noise throughout the night from the residents in the room over ours.
Review 8:The staff are great really helpful, breakfast good and the location is excellent couldn't be better.
Review 9:Decor a bit dated but a very clean and well presented hotel.
Review 10:Central to the town, near pubs and restaurants, great value for money, nice cooked breakfast, friendly staff,
Review 11:Car parking didn't make any sense, staff spending time moving people's cars. - seems very unproductive. Why not make a deal with the multi storey carpark 2 mins from the hotel for discounted rates?
Review 12:Location was best for my needs.
Review 13:Room at rear of hotel was a little noisy due to Saturday night revellers passing below. Double glazing may help; but made mental note to drink more myself, before going to bed :-)
Review 14:Location, staff and parking facilities were excellent. Evening meal was wholesome and excellent value-for-money.
Review 15:Great value for money. Lovely food with plenty of time to eat it. Rooms have everything you need with plenty of room and a lovely shower. Entertainment every night. Staff were lovely and helpful. What more could you ask for!
Review 16:Parking facilities, but as the location is so central nothing else can be done.
Review 17:Because of its excellent location it is central to everything. A little tired, but very clean. Staff very friendly.
Review 18:The noise from the bars on either side of the road was very bad and revellers singing till 0330 plus each morning. Asked for an iron and board and was told to come and collect it and then had to carry it up 3 flights of stairs. They did have one lift but was always being used by countless old people on coach tours. Couldn't move in the hotel for wheel chairs and zipper frames.Beds were very uncomfortable and the TV that small that we had to move it forward on a unit to the bottom of the bed.Breakfast was cold as was the toast.Turned up on a plate the size of a tea plate.
Review 19:The hotel although dated with frayed carpets in places was immaculately clean.
Review 20:Our room being by a night club. We came to relax and we're never told of any night clubs in the vicinity of the hotel. We do like our music but we came away to relax not to be kept awake from 22:00 through to 05:00. Talking to other guests we are all told different things about our stay and about the parking. I've just scroll down to Question 4, how can you put (did you have a stunning View) you know your rooms. Really wanted to stay here again but that last comment has put me off. We were in room 86 the best view was at the fire Exit. My photos will be going to another website not yours.
Review 21:Location was fantastic myself and my partner love the hustle of the harbour and the town and the friendly people.
Review 22:The shower in the bathroom needs seriously updating
Review 23:Reception staff and waitresses extremely helpful couldn't do enough for you , room was cleaned every day extremely good,
Review 24:Poor internet and only in the reception area. No internet signal in the room. 'Tired' decor. Breakfast only from 8.30-9.30am
Review 25:Good location. Good parking permit system.
Review 26:Lavatory failed to flush completely .
Review 27:Well lit/heated rooms , convenient light switches . Two chairs . Good shower and bath arrangement Convenient lift .. Great breakfast , speedily served . Happy staff..
Review 28:Great staff on reception, very helpful. Breakfast was served very swiftly and with a smile, always nice. The location is good, lots of bars and more traditional pubs serving real ale very close by. Great value for money over all.
Review 29:Rushed breakfast, 8.30 to 9.30...prompt, even though waitress service
Review 30:Location and value for money, convenient car parking - but book your spot as there is limited space at £3 per day Staff were cheerful
Review 31:Breakfast wasn't very good, the bacon was very cheap/formed. Portion size small. Staff complaining to each other about the speed of the chef however they weren't very speedy themselves, taking 10/15mins to ask what drink we wanted. Cleaner banging on the door at 8.20am asking if we were in, she returned at 9.30am banging on the door again!
Review 32:Our booking was wrong when we arrived but it was quickly sorted by the 2 staff on reception with a room upgrade. Were able to get late night drinks and take them up to the room.
Review 33:Receptionist on duty when we arrived almost rude although the rest were fine. This one receptionist desperately needed to smarten up his appearance and his customer care
Review 34:The food was excellent and great value for money. Location was very poor for parking and the notes itself was "tired" in appearance.
Review 35:The room is small, with the smallest TV I have ever seen. They also need updating as the decor is very tired. The bathroom could also do with updating, putting in a walk in shower instead of shower over bath as this is not suitable for all.
Review 36:The staff were very friendly and serves was very good in the dining room.
Review 37:Just one small thing and that was noise late at night from the bar opposite the hotel but that was not the fault of the hotel
Review 38:Location perfect. Staff friendly and helpful - nothing too much trouble. Suited our weekend very much.
Review 39:I asked to reserve a parking space and was told that one was reserved for us,only to get there and told we had to pay £20,for a reserve parking permit, and the only spaces where we could park were full.We were then told we could park about15-20 minutes walk away, which we didn't,we found a car park near by.
Review 40:Location was good, staff helpful and friendly, good breakfast.
Review 41:No wifi in the room. Being there on weekend it was quite loud. The hotel is aged and could need some refurbishment. There was going on a lot in the hotel. It seems to appeal to an older audience.
Review 42:Friendly reception.
Review 43:Our room was fine - clean and tidy but a little dated the carpets in the hall ways are very bad indeed they need replacing
Review 44:Staff friendly and informative, food good - bar was also good and staff again were friendly. location of the hotel excellent
Review 45:Had a room at front of hotel where there was a night club. I don't mind a night club as we stay out until 12 to 1 anyway. I looked out of the window at 4am and the club was empty it propably shut at 3am but children were still outside shouting at 5am. I would like to have the opportunity to have a room at the rear of the hotel if i booked again.
Review 46:Good location in town center.
Review 47:The moment we arrived staff was great, bar area was a welcomed bonus with a wide selection of drinks, rooms where clean and fresh didn't really notice the noise from the night club over the road will be rebooking for next year tanks all the staff at the crown hotel see you in 8 months
Review 48:The noise!! It's opposite a 24 hour nightclub and they only have single glazing so you can hear everything that's going on over the road all night! Nice place with nice staff but don't stay there if you want and sleep!
Review 49:Everything bar the noise, the staff, location, rooms, everything was excellent bar the noise
Review 50:This time our room was at the front of the hotel and I'm afraid we had to check out after two nights as the noise was unbearable, on a positive note the hotel refunded us for our missed night.
Review 51:This is our second stay at the crown and overall it is a good hotel as it is in a great location, it is clean and the staff are helpful.
Review 52:Room 38 is on the front of the hotel but unfortunately it is very noisy all night long.
Review 53:The breakfasts are quite adequate and the service both for breakfast and dinner are 1st class
Review 54:Hotel stuck in a 1980's/ 1990's time warp. I cannot believe that anywhere still serves breakfasts using such poor quality ingredients. In this day and age expectations are much higher and would not go back until they seriously up their game.
Review 55:Great location and staff were very nice.
Review 56:My Husband and I have stayed at the Crown Hotle before, we are all ways made very will come, nice staff, clean, comfortable, right near, sea, Harbour, ect.
Review 57:A little noisy outside until late, but to be expected bearing in mind the location of the hotel.
Review 58:The hotel staff worked as a team and were always more than helpful.
Review 59:If you want to relax, do not go there. We could not sleep well as noise was coming from pub below the window. The breakfast was poor, cold toast, hot boiled egg (how I can peel it?), porridge tasteless.
Review 60:It is good for transport, as it located in the city.
Review 61:There are restaurant and shops opposite the hotel. I disliked the noise from there to my room which is in front of the building.
Review 62:All the members of staff were very patient , helpful and friend.
Review 63:Not sure how this hotel got such a high rating. The bed was hard and the sheets didn't really fit. The toilet still had dried urine on the rim from previous guest. The TV didn't work on all stations, the picture kept breaking up. I couldn't lock the room door from the inside, the fire door next to our room squeeked every time it was opened and self closed, the radiator didn't warm up when turned on, the breakfast was less than luke warm. And the cleaner, Dot, left a note and an envelope for gratuities ha ha ha ha ha
Review 64:Not a lot but for £63 a night for a couple should I have expected more?
Review 65:The waiting staff were excellent at breakfast most of the staff were older generation and gave brilliant service, happy and nothing was to much trouble especially Maureen....a real live wire and a credit to yourselves
Review 66:The breakfast was very good but it could be hotter. A little on the cool side.
Review 67:Perfect location although a little noisy the room was a little small so it was very warm, as a result we needed the window open then we had noise from people leaving the pubs in the early hours.
Review 68:Nothing to dislike.
Review 69:Friendly welcoming staff. Nice traditional Hotel tastefully decorated. Tasty food at reasonable prices. Good sized room [1st floor room24]. Large restaurant, tasty breakfasts ,very attentive staff. Good location for all shops ,landmarks and beach
Review 70:Soooooo noisy especially as there was a music thing on canal but we didn't mind too much. Older folk in the hotel would have though :(
Review 71:It's a proper seaside hotel with all the chintz that goes with that. Needs a lot of work to maintain the building and decor as it may come a cropper in a few years but its also part if its charm. Luxury? Definitely not. Good fun for a couple of nights? Definitely.
Review 72:The room we had was over looking the bars so it was very noisy didn't get much sleep. Didn't go quiet until after 4am.
Review 73:All of the above and breakfast until 10am was great.
Review 74:had booked three nights but due to an early appointment in hospital only stayed two nights . They did not even entertain my request on arrival to refund third day charges the attitude of reception staff put me off ever going there again
Review 75:The hotel itself is a bit tired. The walls between rooms and floors are very thin so it was very noisy. We could hear the tv from the room above as if we were in the room and closing doors were very noisy. The bathroom was clean but didn't smell the best. As a result i felt it was not worth the money charged to stay there.
Review 76:The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We had to leave very early the next morning and they arranged for the night porter to have continental breakfast ready for us. They also arranged for our car to be accessible in the garage.
Review 77:It's the worst hotel we have ever stayed in, it smells of urine, our room did too and the bathroom, wanted to throw up our toilet seat had 4 chips out of it. And the noise is rediculuse
Review 78:The staff, from reception, night porter, bar staff.
Review 79:Hairs all over bed and there is a nightclub directly opposite the hotel. I got 3 hours sleep once the nightclub closed. Bed had collapsed on one side. Asked manager for a room swap due to very loud noise, told hotel was fully booked. 3 hours later asked the night porter, there were then magically a choice of rooms to move to. Ended up in high floor room, still quite noisy.
Review 80:Friendly staff on the whole, particularly the night porter.
Review 81:Breakfast room can be loud in the morning, but can not say there was anything I was unhappy with.
Review 82:initial room very small staff happy to change to larger room, very friendly staff happy to help with any request. would recommend to friends.
Review 83:Only thing I can say about this hotel was the shower wasn't very powerful so I ended up having a bath
Review 84:Just the hotel was very very clean the staff was very polite was a good breakfast in the morning I was offered more if you need it definitely would stay here again would recommend to other people just a little bit noisy on a night time when the pub are emptying
Review 85:on the afternoon of our first day,the lift broke down,so we had to struggle up stairs to the 3rd floor ,hotel had to send for parts for the lift, we ached all over.still out of order 3 days later ,when we left.
Review 86:we had a third floor room with a fantastic view of the quay side and river
Review 87:Delightful staff who kindly carried our bags to the bedroom, very polite and friendly , the night porter was very helpful after hours and over all aswell as the excellent location, we loved our stay at the crown
Review 88:Minor issue. I like sleeping with a window open. If I did this there was a hotel/nightclub nearby and between 12midnight & 2.00am and one could hear noise from the smokers out in the street. This however was NOT a problem when I closed my window.
Review 89:The staff.!! Reception staff were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble for them and all done with a smile. Restaurant staff were so efficient and personable at breakfast times, even though it was a full house and very busy. The bar staff were most welcoming. Rooms were kept clean and tidy. In all The Crown was good value for money and it's location made it easy to access retail outlets, tourist sites and transport facilities.
Review 90:Parking could be a problem as it is such a popular area to stay. We stopped for just 1 night so paid £10 and parked in the bowling car park. The hotel reception staff told us about, can only be used 1 night only.
Review 91:Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely. Hotel right in the centre of town. Rooms could do with am update but still clean. Only there one night as it was a flying visit
Review 92:My only negative thoughts on the hotel is the wifi is only available in the reception and registent lounge so you can not use it in your own rooms. Also there was no breakfast menus in room so did not know what was on offer but the breakfasts was lovely.
Review 93:Lovely setting ideal for short walk to sea front and right on main town. Rooms were clean and tidy. Residents lounge was very clean and large enough you were not sitting on each other.
Review 94:Downside was lack of sleep due the noise outside in the early hours of the morning & a very blocked plug hole in the shower.
Review 95:Happy friendly staff which was noticeable on arrival. Had some food whilst waiting for check in, it was well presented & hot.
Review 96:The place has a run down feel and everything is just a little tired. The hallway is lined with mobility scooters and the bar looks like a bingo hall.
Review 97:Location
Review 98:generally the noise from outside, drunks, people shouting, local pub banging out loud music, bin men emptying bins in the very early hours, road sweeping lorries, again early morning . Parking was free but was round the corner and had a twenty pound deposit for the permit, which you did get back
Review 99:the hotel was good, breakfast was nice, staff friendly
Review 100:Breakfast could be a bit larger Lift was out of order a lot of the stay ,but these things happen
Review 101:Good location ,close to all amenities, staff are helpful and friendly
Review 102:Beds were a little soft for us.
Review 103:Everyone was really friendly from the moment we walked through the door. Located adjacent to the harbour/marina and the old draw bridge, which still opens to allow the boats through, we had everything we wanted close by and only 5 - 10 minute stroll to beach.
Review 104:Location. No parking, I had to park with a permit a good 10 minute walk away, I have arthritis and find it difficult walking far (I do not have a disablilty badge) My daughter whom I travelled with doesn't drive so I had to trek to the car everytime we wanted to drive anywhere. I know it's not the Hotels fault but could have organised nearer permit parking.
Review 105:All the staff were very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Review 106:Smell in lobby. Smelt like floor was clean with dirty mop and water but that's it! A down fall apart from that all the staff made my stay very noce
Review 107:Staff very professional and polite.
Review 108:Very helpful staff really make this hotel, especially the more senior ones serving breakfast. Charming manners, coupled with the fact that they were obviously enjoying themselves, was a pleasure to see. This is a fine budget hotel.
Review 109:The staff were very friendly, and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The room was very clean. It is worth to mention the shower facility and great water pressure for travellers like us to have a nice and hot shower after a long trip.
Review 110:Day staff mixed bunch some warm and welcoming some very preoccupied with themselves. Hotel room v. dated
Review 111:Good location but a little noisey, the breakfast staff were v. friendly..reception night staff man lovely
Review 112:The hotel is looking a bit tired and could use a facelift.
Review 113:The staff were very friendly and attentive. Excellent location. lovely cooked breakfast served by very pleasant staff
Review 114:Parking is limited, but that seems to be a Weymouth problem. Bed slightly soft, so could not sit on the bed. Room slightly small.
Review 115:The staff... very friendly, helpful and even parked car for me. Breakfast was delicious, truely scrumpeous.... clean room.
Review 116:No wifi in the room, room was way too small for a twin, breakfast was awful, didn't like having to leave your key it made me feel like I wasn't trusted.
Review 117:The staff were really nice and the location was good.
Review 118:being keep awake all night by outside noise of drunken people, our room was no 21 dead opposite all night pub, bed would of been more comfortable if king size not double
Review 119:close to town
Review 120:Friendly staff and they had a lift to help you get to your room with your luggage. Most English properties don't have lifts and you have to carry your bags up numerous flights of stairs which are very narrow !!
Review 121:Being in the centre of town may mean it's a little noisy at night.
Review 122:Very useful if you want to be in the centre of town. Hotel has bar and lounge to relax in.
Review 123:Very noisy outside which disturbed my sleep, unable to open window and no guidance on nearest carpark on website (although i should have phoned to find out)
Review 124:Very friendly, clean and comfortable
Review 125:Room was small and décor very run down. Stained carpet. Felt we should have been warned that there was an all day music festival right outside the hotel when we booked the hotel. If you want a quiet stay, this hotel is not for you as late night revellers kept us awake til the early hours
Review 126:Excellent friendly helpful staff. Location within walking distance of town and beach
Review 127:Toilet wouldn't flush (which I fixed), no shampoo, uncomfortable mattress, breakfast very 'old style' and bedroom quite small. Odd arrangements for parking but better than nothing in town centre.
Review 128:Excellent welcome and service welcome from receptionist
Review 129:Although we had a permit to park we still found it quite difficult to find somewhere near the hotel so had to go to the pavilion car park ok for us but could be a problem if you are less mobile parts of the hotel looking a bit tried
Review 130:Reception staff and dining room staff friendly the room we had a great view over looking the harbour
Review 131:stayed here a few times now, but why bother with a review if you don't get any discount thought they could have given a little as phoned hotel direct but got it cheaper on booking.com
Review 132:staff friendly and allways have been
Review 133:room very hot and no air flow - because I had window open to cool through night, was woken very early by street noise
Review 134:Good location but no car park space available (which I was told after I booked).
Review 135:I thought the cleanliness of our room could have been better it was'nt cleaned to a very good standard
Review 136:You was made to feel welcome from the moment you walked into the hotel
Review 137:The coffee was not very nice. The shower was poor.
Review 138:The location was perfect for us, nice clean room, the breakfast was good, staff helpful and friendly.
