Set in the heart of beautiful Beaminster (Hardy's Emminster) and surrounded by stunning countryside, this 700 year-old former priest’s house is steeped in history and character.
With crackling log fires in centuries-old inglenook stoves, stone mullioned windows, oak beams and candles, here you can relax without fuss or hurry in an environment that is both ancient and modern.
While the building may be medieval, its interior and facilities are entirely up to date. Refurbished public areas, new bathrooms throughout and investment in new technology, such as Wi-Fi, ensure the Bridge House is firmly in the 21st century while maintaining the hotel’s stunning original features.
Within easy reach of Dorset's fossil paradise, the Jurassic Coast, during your stay you can explore many sites of natural beauty, including Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and Lyme Regis.

Reviews for BridgeHouse

Review 1:A couple of errors - reserved specific table in restaurant not given to us - we were moved to a different table but not the one reserved - error in first course served which was resolved - but otherwise all good and the staff apologised for the errors.

Review 2:Lovely atmosphere friendly staff, beautiful old building with open fire in the restaurant

Review 3:Parking/getting out of the car park was a bit difficult due to small car park and people blocking others in.

Review 4:Lovely room, really clean and comfortable. Liked the little extras of bottled water and bath robes. Lovely breakfast.

Review 5:did not think staff where used to dealing with solo travellers.seemed to be uncomfortable dealing with a woman alone..i have travelled a lot and not experience that before.

Review 6:Nice location.large room,good food

Review 7:Bedrooms were tired. Didn't realise there was only a formal restaurant. We would have preferred a more relaxed bar meal.

Review 8:Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast area is under utilised in the evening. Could be used for bar meals.

Review 9:The staff were friendly and welcoming and were always ready to help. The food was excellent and breakfast superb. We will recommend Bridge house to anyone who is looking for a relaxing break.

Review 10:Lovely pictures & plenty of interesting items throughout. Very comfortable bedroom. Bright attractive breakfast lounge, lovely garden views. Friendly helpful staff. would come again if in the location.

Review 11:The food was simply exceptional. From amuse bouche through to breakfast, everything was of that highest quality and packed with flavour. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel facilities were great.

Review 12:The ambience. The friendliness of all the staff and their eagerness to please. A lovely, spacious room. And very, very good food at breakfast and dinner.

Review 13:Parking is challenging! There is a small car park but you have to get there early to get a space

Review 14:The hotel has plenty of charm and the staff were attentive without being in our face

Review 15:water pressure a bit low,but no big deal, and our room had been visited by the coat hanger fairy, but again no big deal,we loved our all to short stay there and look forward to returning

Review 16:excellent friendly hotel, hard working helpful staff, well decorated immaculate room great food with a choice of dining inside or outside, secure on site parking.very personable owners .it was a real joy to stay there highly recommended

Review 17:We had advised when booking that both guests were vegetarian but when we asked whether they did a vegetarian full english breakfast, the reply was along the lines of 'yes, our vegetarian full english would be a full english without the sausages and bacon or we do some other egg dishes'. For a hotel boasting a Michelin star chef this is disappointing and lacks imagination. It is a pity that the vegetarian options at breakfast could not follow the excellent dinner we had had the night before. Vegetarians are not rare breeds any more and even meat eaters sometimes like to choose vegetarian options. Not every vegetarian wants just an egg dish as an alternative to a meaty full english.

Review 18:The room and the dinner.

Review 19:We stayed in room 10. People above us (children) spent most of the morning running up and down room. Maybe a sign but up saying there are people below as was very loud!

Review 20:Being seated on our own in the cold conservatory extension to the dining room while there were still empty tables available for the next half-hour in the dining room itself. The food was a little disappointing. Burnt toast at breakfast.

Review 21:Cosy feel to the hotel. Polite staff. Comfortable bed. Clean and well decorated.

Review 22:The room was hot, although in the hotel's defence, we didn't ask how/if we could turn the heating down.

Review 23:Very spacious and comfortable room (family suite), wonderful food, and friendly, helpful staff who can't do enough to help. I'd definitely go back.

Review 24:Hip bath may be trendy but thoroughly impractical. Also one morning breakfast went into meltdown and had to wait half an hour to get a table.

Review 25:Excellent comfy bed and huge room.

Review 26:Room was a bit small. Next time we will go for a room in the main building.

Review 27:My wife and I had two of the best meals we have had in an age. The staff were super. As strangers to the area we had no idea of what it offered. We found that the little town was a bit low key. However as a gateway to the Jurassic coast it was ideal

Review 28:Fact that the 2 sash windows in bedroom only opened for a few inches each. Realise maybe for security reasons as we were on ground floor but surely it would be possible to have a locking mechanism after window lowered a little further. Lack of fresh air meant muggy headaches for the following 24 hours.

Review 29:Beauty of hotel, gorgeous gardens, excellent reception skills, offer of an upgrade, great food, outstanding breakfast.

Review 30:Lovely location, excellent food, very comfortable bed, lovely bedding, large soft white fluffy towels. Highly recommended and will stay again when in the area.

Review 31:There was nothing to dislike

Review 32:Staff, location, food were all wonderful and our dogs were made very welcome. This was our second visit and I am sure we will be back

Review 33:I think that the family in the room above us had a child/children who didn't sleep well and this disturb our sleep, both late at night and early morning. Perhaps families with children should always be on the ground floor?

Review 34:The food was really delicious. Compliments to the chef.

Review 35:Lovely hotel , very friendly helpful service, fabulous comfortable beds and pillows . We ate in the restaurant for dinner which was excellent , as was the delicious breakfast . Nothing to fault

Review 36:The room smelt mouldy when you first walked in. There was no view at all from the room. The dripping guttering kept us awake all night. I don't think the room was good value for money even at the reduced rate. An error was made on our bill (which was quickly refunded after we noticed it on our arrival home). It is the first time in my life where I have had fish and chips for supper and been able to count the chips at a glance, 7. There is fancy cooking and then there is portions which are simply too small.

Review 37:The hotel was full of character. It was in a good location for our visit to the Southwest. The breakfast was well cooked. We could park close to our room. The staff seemed very friendly.

Review 38:The four poster bed was very comfortable, but due to the building limitations and adverse heat the room was extremely hot and ventilation very restricted. Unfortunately spent a very uncomfortable night. Advice... Secure a room to the back of the building due to road noise, and ventalition issues. Rooms to the back quiet and modern.

Review 39:The food was excellent, though service rushed due to large party within restaurant.

Review 40:Low pressure in shower but probably due more to location than fault of hotel.

Review 41:Very warm welcome and fantastic food in restaurant. Beautiful old building well maintained keeping all of its old features. Will definitely book this hotel again.

Review 42:The room and food was superb.

Review 43:Very expensive hotel No dressing table and rather clutttered room Shower curtain could not be pulled across

Review 44:Food - very good Staff very friendly

Review 45:Nothing

Review 46:The staff were very friendly and accommodating of our needs. The Hotel is very comfortable, and the restaurant serves delicious food.

Review 47:Sara & Simon were fantastic. The room was beautiful and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was lovely.

Review 48:Although the room was comfortable there was nothing special to justify the very high price for the single room.

Review 49:Hard to find a negative but personally would have liked a more powerful shower.

Review 50:Extremely comfortable bed and delicious breakfast.

Review 51:Nothing to shoot about really

Review 52:Nothing not to like.

Review 53:Staff were friendly food was great and local to Beaminster. Felt relaxed as a solo lady traveller and plan to return next year.

Review 57:The property was lovely, the staff friendly and helpful and the amazing bedroom!

Review 58:The staff went out of their way to accommodate our group, even opening the kitchen an hour early on a Sunday for us.

Review 59:The free-for-all in the car park.

Review 60:The friendly, cosy atmosphere and the proximity to the local shops and pubs. The self contained rooms.

Review 61:Food very good & always a warm room

Review 62:friendly,good value

Review 63:Great accommodation, nothing too much trouble for the staff and very dog friendly!

Review 64:Some of the staff had a bit of an air about them.

Review 65:The sitting area downstairs was cozy. Dinner was nice but not excellent.

Review 66:No phone signal for Vodaphone

Review 67:Lovely location, olde worlde charm, excellent food. rooms to a high standard

Review 68:Nothing!

Review 69:Great service and excellent food. Thank you

Review 70:Very poor shower.

Review 71:VERY PLEASANT GUESTHOUSE WITH EXCELLLANT FINE DINING IN A NICE PART OF THE DORSET COUNTRYSIDE.

Review 72:The staff are just lovely, good food, nice people, lovely setting and full of character. I just wish we had stayed longer

Review 73:Everything! Beautifully decorated with style and an individual touch. Friendly helpful staff. Great food.

Review 74:The bar.

Review 75:Lovely people. The food was superb ane felt ver at home.

Review 76:When you close the curtain the TV was behind it.

Review 77:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room and other areas very comfrtable.

Review 78:Loved the bedroom we had. Large with oh so comfy 4 poster bed. Gorgeous food. Lovely garden

Review 79:Food was good, but I felt wouldn't have taken much to have made it excellent.

Review 80:The attitude of the staff was very good and professional.

Review 81:room (boxy)

Review 82:Location Dining/breakfast area bar area

Review 83:Upgraded to a very well appointed, quiet room.

Review 84:I had to leave after one night

Review 85:Really welcoming staff, beautiful establishment, delicious breakfast, pretty walled garden, Molton Brown toiletries in the bathroom. We will return... For longer next time!

Review 86:Location was brilliant and the hotel really beautiful. Couldn't fault the service - friendly and efficient every day. Great restaurant manager and team.

Review 87:Shower was not working properly, managed to sort it, but told Patrick, so all will be well for next visitor.

Review 88:Great bed, good duvet, nice sized room. Tea on arrival a very nice touch.

Review 89:The lighting in the room was slightly on the dim side. Was also a little surprised to see there was no bedside radio. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and intended to have some wine in the room and have a little music playing while we exchanged gifts before going down to dinner. But we feel it isn't entirely clear what the 'room service' offer is, from reading the folder in the room we thought it might not be possible outside of restaurant hours, but reception staff were happy to send up a glass of wine when requested, and in sending up someone to try and fix the reception for radio stations on the room T.V. which turned out not to be possible, so we made do with my husband's blackberry. However, this did just slightly affect the mood we were hoping for. Dinner was excellent and the service was very professional if a little perfunctory, it was up to us to slow the pace down a little or we would have been back in our room (or the bar) in just over an hour, again, we were happy to linger and take our time and this wasn't really picked up on. On a final note, the room was quite hot, but it was not possible to have windows/shutters open without very bright light from streetlamps coming into the room, and I wonder if anyone else has mentioned the quite loud humming/buzzing sound that seems to come from a generator or other equipment somewhere in the hotel.

Review 90:The 4-poster bed in Room 1 was wonderful and incredibly comfortable, the best pillows of any hotel I've stayed in. The staff were all very welcoming and highly professional. The interiors in all the public areas are delightful, a good mix of cosy charm and luxury. If I had been staying more than one night I am sure I would have found it all incredibly relaxing. Dinner in the Brasserie was delicious and the eggs benedict on the breakfast menu is a real 'stand-out', I have never tasted better.

Review 91:Noise from road Some staff not friendly and not efficient Dark room tiny bathroom expensive

Review 92:Character of hotel Most of staff were friendly and efficient Breakfasts were excellent

Review 93:Room a little cramped because of size of bed. If we wanted to sit and relax we had to use a public room, but that was not really a problem.

Review 94:Excellent attention by staff, excellent breakfasts. Lovely huge bed, good attention to detail. I will definitely use again

Review 95:The cost of food and drink was a bit steep in my opinion. I know that the restaurant has won an award, and I don't mind paying a bit more for better quality. But I still found it a bit expensive.

Review 96:Good service, and the staff were top drawer. Great facilities and very clean.

Review 97:Couldn't fault it at all

Review 98:Excellent hotel, great facilities, brilliant food, friendly staff. Definitely good point to see much of Dorset from. Would definitely go back

Review 99:The bathroom wasn't as clean as it could have been, a little bleach in the toilet would help!

Review 100:The atmosphere, the staff were very attentive and the breakfast was yum!

Review 101:Nothing !

Review 102:The hotel staff provided a very warm atmosphere and were always eager to make sure our stay was enjoyable. The facilities were excellent and the menus delicious.

Review 103:Coach house ground floor room onto car park would not have been our choice, especially as dogs were allowed in this room (although it was all very clean).

Review 104:Friendly staff, nicely decorated bedroom, lounge, bar and restaurant extremely comfortable and welcoming.

Review 105:Hard to fault. It should be noted that there is currently a lengthy diversion to Beaminster if approaching from the North due to the closure of the Beaminster tunnel.

Review 106:The hotel is in a lovely location, in a quintesentially English village which retains much of its rural charm. The room (superior double) was well appointed with comfortable beds and a large spa bath, great to use after a day spent learning to sail. The food is of a very high standard and the staff were happy to oblige our requests for deserts to be served in the bar, even though we had eaten else where. They also found us a table in the restaurant on our delayed arrival. It was obvious that the staff knew some of their regular customers by name, but at the same time made 'strangers' equally welcome.

Review 107:service at breakfast was a bit dis-jointed (the actual breakfast was first rate). No vanity light in the bathroom

Review 108:the bed was really comfortable and the room very pleasant

Review 109:A bit of better attention to the pouring of bottled conditioned beers in the bar!

Review 110:The friendly and helpful staff. We arrived early on the first day to go to a wedding nearby. The staff were able to have our room ready so we were able to freshen up and change before leaving. The room was very comfortable and well appointed. The food in the restaurant was superb with lots of mouth watering choices. Breakfast was equally well organised and a nice selection. Well recommended! Thanks for making our stay so welcoming.

Review 111:I was too full from dinner to enjoy their excellent looking breakfast menu to the full.

Review 112:The welcome, size of bedroom and its bathroom. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed we have experienced. Thank you.

Review 113:We had 3 table lamps in our room but they were not bright enough to read by and the lighting was poor making it difficult to read. Bathroom was on the small side.

Review 114:Relaxed atmosphere and helpful staff. Delicious food. Good car park. Warm. Clean.

Review 115:There was nothing we didn't like!

Review 116:The atmosphere was great and the staff friendly and courteous. The food was to die for and the accommodation very comfortable. We have no complaints at all and would recommend your hotel to anyone. Plus, it's definitely value for money. So, thank you! yon

Review 117:Although food was nice, prices are slightly high as have eaten in similarly priced restaurants with a higher standard of food. Waitress staff were not as attentive as they could've been, I asked for wine list before we sat down to eat and did not get my order taken until the main was delivered. So no wine with my starter. This made the difference between me ordering a bottle or a glass. Just had a glass as had started the main before wine came. We requested an early breakfast as my fiancé had an important work event. We ordered 2 full English the night before and were told the breakfasts would be on the table at 7:15, they were not ready until 7:35.

Review 118:Stayed in the 4 poster room. Bed was extremely comfortable. Decor was lovely. Food was nice

Review 119:The attention to detail was excellent. Staff very attentive, the food was wonderful , a perfect place to escape and relax for a few hours

Review 120:Nothing to report that matters.

Review 121:Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 122:Dinner excellent. Family room worked well for us. All staff professional and friendly. Would go back!

Review 123:Atmosphere was welcoming and the food was absolutely delicious. I slept like a log!
