Reviews for Hotel Rex
Review 1:My bed base wobbled but wasn't too much of a problem!! The wifi signal in my room, room 14, was very poor and prevented me from accessing my emails.
Review 2:The staff very helpful and friendly Food was excellent
Review 3:Bed wasn't the most comfortable.
Review 4:Location was perfect, breakfast basic but good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Beautiful view of the bay from my room. Parking with a permit was excellent (could be because it's winter but I had no trouble finding a park on either of the two nights I stayed).
Review 5:Windows were in need of replacing, terrible drafts from them and very noisy in the wind, even led in bed could feel the draft
Review 6:Excellent location 2 mins from shops
Review 7:Good location for Weymouth sea front, beach and shops, free parking (deposit required for permit and return by midday on day of departure), staff very polite & accommodating, Sea view room was very comfortable, clean and with balcony. Breakfast = brilliant :-)
Review 8:We would have preferred our twin room to have been a little bigger
Review 9:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The building and it's Georgian design has a very pleasurable feel, both comfortable and good on the eye, both outside and inside.
Review 10:The Hotel is in a fantastic location, right on the seafront and close to the shops and restaurants. All the staff are really friendly. The room was comfortable and the food amazing. This was our first visit and definitely would like to stay here again.
Review 11:If I had to be critical I was not a fan of having to return the garage key to reception every time I locked up. It would be o.k if the garage was at the back of the hotel but it's a few streets back around the corner. I'm sure they've had issues in the past with keys not being returned.
Review 12:Location was why we booked the Rex, we were impressed with the room and the view over the beach. Breakfast was exceptional, service was outstanding.
Review 13:Breakfast didn't smell right dripping with fat burn toast Cob webs in room Old stinky mattress Condensation on Windows
Review 14:location reception staff
Review 15:Our room faced away from the sea, I will book earlier next time to help ensure a sea view room availability.
Review 16:Location is excellent perfect for the beach and the shops and entertainment however the best thing about this Hotel is the team of people working there. Everyone were enthusiastic, helpful and friendly .I will definitely be booking this hotel again.
Review 17:They had contractors staying and used bad language at the breakfast table . And the two male waiters on wednesday and thursday were very moody.
Review 18:We had a very friendly welcome. The young man and the young woman that served breakfast were very good.
Review 19:No bad experience, but rooms, even with balcony, are definitely small - by UK not US standards; breakfast not close to the standards of the evening meal, at least on a single night's experience.
Review 20:Location good; also seafront outlook, though it clearly could get extremely noisy in season; evening meal very good value.
Review 21:Very poor restaurant service - went into breakfast, one other table already served, no one else in there. Staff brought me coffee, but then ignored me whilst 7 other tables arrived and had their breakfast order taken. Eventually had order taken and 20 minutes later no food. Had to leave to catch train but had wasted 50 mins sat in a restaurant being ignored. Very poor !
Review 22:Simple check in, great location
Review 23:Hotel room was really warm when we arrived but we turned the radiator off so it cooled down it made the room much more comfortable, once it cooled downWe were on the top floor and the floor in our hotel room was uneven. It made for a very interesting stay.
Review 24:The location was superb and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was free and was well cooked and tasty. We booked a sea view room and that is exactly what we got. The view was stunning! Waking up to the sound of the waves was one of our highlights
Review 25:Noise from non residents leaving at night. Narrow bed. Average breakfast. Just a tired hotel
Review 26:The location is quite good on the seafront, and the parking is free
Review 27:Nothing
Review 28:Great location, right on the seafront and the staff were very helpful - the restaurant was fully booked when we were there, but they recommended other restaurants, and when we met the next day, they asked where we ate, and what it was like.
Review 29:Very small single room; felt more like a prison cell than hotel bedroom. Unable to provide breakfast until 7.30am, which was useless for me as I had a meeting at 7.30am
Review 30:Great location on the seafront; although there is a small amusement park between the hotel and the beach
Review 31:Nothing we didn't like. The decor is dated but we thought it added to hotels charm. The cleanliness and facilities make up for this anyway.
Review 32:The hotel is in a superb location. We had a sea view room and you literally step outside hotel onto sea front, the town centre is behind the hotel and the harbour with lots of bars and places to eat is just a five minute walk. Hotel staff are wonderful.
Review 33:Room 24 is right next to the 2nd floor passageway door from the lift, the door bangs shut, which makes the headboard to the bed vibrate against the wall. Bed more than a little hard, could do with mattress replacing as you can feel the springs through the mattress upper fabric.
Review 34:Excellent location, easy parking with help of Hotel parking permit (£20 deposit, refundable). Staff friendly and cheerful. Clean and tidy, excellent breakfast.
Review 35:Being told that a coach party was expected so,we couldn't have dinner until after 7.30pm, which was no good as we were seeing a show at 7.30pm
Review 36:Friendly staff, good location, good views and very comfortable
Review 37:Very warm in the hotel - and very hard mattress on the bed.
Review 38:Position of hotel being right on the seafront. Although with the fun park directly opposite l'm not sure how noisy it would be on the summer months.
Review 39:bedroom carpet had not been hoovered after last guest.
Review 40:Friendly staff, free on road parking, excellent cooked breakfast with good choices. Good location to seafront.
Review 41:Staying in a hotel alone is not usually very pleasant but the excellent staff and general atmosphere made this a pleasure. Nothing was too much trouble, the room was warm and comfortable and the dinner on Sunday night was delicious. I would certainly recommend this to others.
Review 42:The room didn't look like any of the photos on the internet. The pictures on the internet for the room booked, were of a more spacious room, better view and the bathroom apppeared more luxurious. when we mentioned this to reception, they wern't really interested and said they couldn't have pitcures of every room on booking.com. But we felt we were misrep'd!
Review 43:Location
Review 44:One or two staff were intrusive, didn't like the false Xmas either, I wouldn't have booked had I known...
Review 45:Loved the location, hotel was beautifully clean and well kept. Slightly unnerved at turning up in the middle of 'Xmas day' a forward notification of this would have been nice. Some of the staff were intrusive.
Review 46:They could not accomodate us for Dinner at 6.45, as they had a coach party, told us we would have to wait untill 8pm.This is not acceptable.
Review 47:Position of Hotel, good freshly cooked breakfast.
Review 48:Bed and pillows were uncomfortable and room was very hot at night. Christmas decorations already up and it is not even the end of October!
Review 49:Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was excellent. Breakfast served quickly and was ok, not the best we've had but it was ok.
Review 50:Had to drive round many times looking for parking space but in the end we were lucky & found one right outside hotel. Room a bit dated...clean enough but decor needs modernisation /upgrade for the amount we paid. Bed not comfiest in the world!
Review 51:Great position overlooking beach & near Pavillion as we were going there for a concert. Nice to walk thru lanes in town nearby. Good to get free parking voucher from hotel, but need to find a space! Fresh cooked breakfast is always better than the self service buffet some places offer.
Review 52:A lot of noise until very late at night from the surrounding bars and clubs
Review 53:the staff were friendly and helpful; even offering to move our luggage along to the next hotel for us when we checked out.
Review 54:Lovely, friendly staff. Great location - very close to harbour. Stayed with a group of friends - some of us travel widely, others don't, but all of us agreed it was a great little hotel.
Review 55:Went with a group of lads on a Roadtrip in old classics . Had brilliant secure parking, staff were great even when one of our group locked himself out of the room very drunk and very naked in the middle of the night!! Recommend. Great location, great people and great breakfast
Review 56:Don't like the idea that need to hand back the key every time out. Due to the problem of room arrangement, the room I booked had someone else stayed in it. I have been stayed in a lot of hotels and B&B in UK, it's the first time that I opened a room and find other people's luggage in it. Suppose if I saw something unpleasant? This is horrible.
Review 57:Delicious dinner. After finding the problem of room arrangement, the staff solved it quickly. Although I find no tea or coffee in my room.
Review 58:Rooms on the back in particular very noisy from the street, the bell tower and the noisy neighbours. Moved room 3 times after complaining. Room at the front is better. Parking is near impossible in the street. The restaurant is in the basement and dark.
Review 59:Located right on sea front ,
Review 60:The noise at night but obviously that isn't down to you. Unfortunately on the day we were leaving we had popped into town and my knee gave out resulting in a wheel chair which I must say your hotel is not at all hotel friendly but again your staff were very helpful
Review 61:Your reception staff were very helpful and very friendly and your domestics were also lovely
Review 62:Quite expensive accomodation, have paid less for more contemporary hotels. Some lamps in the bar so overhead lights don't need to glare out. Would give more of an atmosphere.
Review 63:Great hotel. A little dated but fine, it's very clean, room was nice & staff very friendly. We had room overlooking the sea, lovely view & very central to everything in Weymouth. I would recommend & we would book again.
Review 64:This was a special birthday treat so went for one of the best rooms. Very disappointed and very highly overpriced at £145 a night albeit that it was on a Bank Holiday! Hotel is in need of a lot of modernisation and only a double-sized bed in fairly small room with limited amenities. Have paid a lot less in many locations for much superior rooms - a real let down. The breakfast, whilst a very detailed menu, was too basic and bland. Staff lovely but sorry won't be returning there or recommending it. Surprised that it had such a high rating. Wish we had opted for a local B & B instead.
Review 65:The location was pretty good although the highly priced "seaview room" looked directly out on to small funfair and pedestrian area/road when had been anticipating a good sea landscape.
Review 66:The beds were not very comfy They need to replace old beds
Review 67:Location right on the sea front and a permit to park. Staff were all very friendly. Breakfast was excellent lots to choose on the menu
Review 68:Breakfast was a little slow and not too great when it arrived.
Review 69:Amazing staff! Fab location. Lovely balcony overlooking the beach :) Great garage parking.
Review 70:The room was lovely, we had a four poster bed, large Jacuzzi bath, and sea view. The staff were very friendly also willing to help. There is a restaurant in the hotel, the food was excellent. Would highly recommend this hotel, will definitely use again.
Review 71:There was a lot of noise from plumbing etc in other rooms. As the building is quite old, although modernised, nothing much could be done about it.
Review 72:The room had a super view of the bay and sea. The staff were very polite and helpful
Review 73:There was occasionally (mainly weekends) quite a lot of late night street noise from homeward-bound revellers. Next time I will request a room at the rear of the Hotel. Some areas could do with decorating.
Review 74:The staff were friendly and welcoming . and very professional: no request from a guest was too trivial or troublesome for their attention. The food was really excellent, (especially from the a la carte menu) as was the service. The room (single) was clean and comfortable (if a bit small).
Review 75:The staff were so friendly and so helpful. I arrived quite late in to the evening and didn't really want to go out to eat as I was a single lady travelling alone so they kindly kept the restaurant open for me. Dinner and breakfast the following morning were very good.
Review 76:Service at dinner was very slow, almost an hour to get a starter and only about 14 other people in the restaurant. Parking was just about impossible to get anywhere near the hotel. Some of the decor was in need of upgrade and the tv room had only one channel on a very old TV and very poor picture quality.
Review 77:Breakfast and dinner were very good. Staff were very kind and helpful. Good location with easy access to shops and pubs and sea front.
Review 78:Extremely long wait for dinner and being overtaken by two tables that ordered after our order was taken. It would have been good to be informed progress as we waited. Unable to understand the sequence of ordering for food.
Review 79:Staff were very friendly and helpful at all other times. We were given free drinks for the waiting time. Location to the town and beach very good.
Review 80:Our room was on a slope, felt you were on a ship. Fire alarm went off at 1.00 am with no explanation whether it was a false alarm, left wondering if it was safe to go back to sleep. Church clock rang on the hour and half hour very annoying.
Review 81:Convenient location, staff very friendly, food excellent.
Review 82:A bit noisy at the back of the hotel although the pub went quiet by about 11pm and the upstairs guest was just doing normal morning stuff.
Review 83:Good location. Option for guaranteed parking. I would stay again.
Review 84:Poor breakfast, outdated, carpets, broken toilet seat, sleeping next to a generator or something that makes a noise continuously through the night, dangerous staircase leading to rooms, dim lights, creaking floorboards, not a level floor, limited channels on TV. An honest hotel would offer a partial refund
Review 85:Location/friendly staff
Review 86:Both the room and en suite were very small, maybe a single room with a double bed in!!!! The furnishings were very dated and shabby, the curtain was falling of the pole it desperately needed some tender loving care. The photos on the website were very misleading we realise now they were showing a far superior room. Although the room had a sea view there was no point as we wouldn't have wanted to sit in such a depressing room to look out, possibly the worst room we have ever stayed in!!
Review 87:The staff were friendly, the location was good
Review 88:I was up from the noise street till 03.30am each night. The second night a drunk non resident woman pitched outside my door and causing disturbance at 01.00am and the police had to be called in. If you are a "normal" traveller or with family avoid this place like the plague.
Review 89:Nothing - all good.
Review 90:All the staff, without exception, were really friendly , warm and helpful - made all the difference. I would really suggest this as a great place to stay in Weymouth
Review 91:The price could be cheaper.
Review 92:Being so near to the harbour and amenities.Great views of the sea. The hotel was great and staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 93:I was in a single room. The mattress on my bed, in my opinion, needed replacing. I was in room 20 and the mattress slanted down at the head-end of the bed.
Review 94:The Hotel was welcoming and clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast time was efficient and enjoyable.
Review 95:The bed was rather difficult to get comfortable in, and was a little to small for someone tall like myself. One night someone in an adjacent room came in at about 3.00 a.m. making rather a lot of noise.
Review 96:All the staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The breakfasts were good, and service was prompt. They were also part of the package, and not an add-on as is often the case these days. The hotel was well located on the sea front, near to the harbour and amenities.
Review 97:Parking problems, if you do manage to acquire one, don't move vehicle during stay - noisy seagulls at 5.00 am
Review 98:Excellent breakfast's, friendly staff
Review 99:The noise and heat of the room
Review 100:Very helpful desk staff. After 3 nights we finally complained about the noise and heat of our room which in fairness to the staff we should have done after the first night so that something could have been done earlier.
Review 101:The bed was on a pronounced slope in the room putting my head well below my feet also the pillows were the dry cleaning sort and were extremely rough on my face. I have stayed here before some while back.
Review 102:Location was excellent for my fishing trip. Right on the front.
Review 103:Didn't like that our bed head board was next to the next room-s bathroom. So every time they used the bathroom you could her every flash and, water shower.
Review 104:Staff were very helpful. And access to room was easy.good size bed.
Review 105:Uncomfortable spring bed, where can feel springs on the sides and tips to same; The thin mattress cover where the 2 single beds together very much do not make a double bed, as advertised; The toilet roll is 2 arms length away and the outside noise.
Review 106:The prime central location and staff are the greatest assets to this hotel.
Review 107:Location was perfect for beach ,harbour & restaurants . We had a sea view with balcony & glorious weather . Breakfast was delicious & served by professional & pleasant staff .
Review 108:Non.
Review 109:The staff unbelievably friendly and accommodating, not only on immediate arrival but every time we left and came back to the hotel. The breakfast was nice and overall I couldn't fault anything. The room was clean and we were allowed in early. We stayed in the 4 poster bed room with the balcony and spa bath. The whole stay made the weekend there perfect, we simply wanted to stay there longer. Thank you.
Review 110:The location , the staff and the fantastic view from our balcony room - room 2 . The little funfair below was no problem. The hotel was close to shops and the harbour
Review 111:The breakfast was a real disappointment. The room was adequate but decor tired/faded throughout hotel. Generally thought the hotel was overpriced for the quality of accomodation.
Review 112:Incredibly friendly staff. We had no trouble with the local on street parking, with permit provided by the hotel. Good location.
Review 113:The hotel is way overdue for a refit the plumbing needs fixing poor water pressure and the shower was blocked up. £99 per night is not good value for the condition of the rooms which were falling apart and all need to be refurbished.
Review 114:The staff are well trained and very helpful
Review 115:The "double" bed was very small and terribly uncomfortable. It was so bad you could feel the springs and when one person moved, so did the whole mattress! We didn't get much sleep.
Review 116:Lovely, friendly staff. Immaculately clean. Great location on the seafront. Nice breakfast with lots of choice.
Review 117:From our arrival to our departure we were pleasantly surprised by the courtesy of the staff. Everywhere was so clean and we had a good, relaxing stay. We were pleased we had booked a seaview room.
Review 118:Breakfast is ridiculously early with no flexibility on time. A plumber had to be called out to fix our noisy toilet. Very old decor and tired customer service with no motivation to improve things. I would suggest staying elsewhere.
Review 119:Location was good relative to the theatre. Clean room. Staff were friendly.
Review 120:The staff were so pleasant and helpful. Yes, decor a bit tired but didn't detract from our stay. Ideally situated for the wedding we were going to
Review 121:Only slight bad thing was we could hear next door snoring haha. Wasnt enough to put us off our sleep though.
Review 122:The room itself was lovely and the hotel was right on the seafront. Would recommend to others.
Review 123:The hotel could do with redecorating, it was starting to look tired
Review 124:A pleasent location, with limited garage parking , nice staff The breakfast was superb.
Review 125:The outstanding friendliness and efficiency of the staff. The location on the Esplanade with a pleasant view over the beach and the very close proximity of all of Weymouth town's facilities.
Review 126:The room was bit on the small side and the view from the window was of the fire escape. Would have booked a sea view room but there were none left.
Review 127:Loved the location of the hotel on the seafront. Got a parking space opposite the hotel and was given a parking permit by the hotel free of charge. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
Review 128:The staff were absolutely amazing and all were very pleasant and polite, they always had a smile on their faces. The beds were extremely comfortable and lovely and big!
Review 129:Parking is difficult but we did pay for the garage and found it perfect we spent two days and didn't need the car at all but knew it was ok.
Review 130:Perfect for shops restaurants etc
Review 131:The bed was extremely hard so was not the most comfortable to sleep in and the pillows were very thin and soft, no spare pillows were stored in the room.
Review 132:Staff were very friendly and polite. Location of Hotel was great. The Hotel was very clean and well maintained.
Review 133:not a bad experience as such just the lack of a proper entrance for the disabled and elderly frail people
Review 134:the location the staff were extremely helpful in all departments.we were very pleased that we chose the REX for our holiday and will do so again.
Review 135:Having to leave
Review 136:We booked as visited but left as friends, the staff were so friendly and made my mums birthday so extra special , thank you all so much
