Reviews for Innkeeper's Lodge Beckenham

Review 1:Food was appalling - the place is basically over a Toby Carvery pub. We tried both some lunch and breakfast the next morning and the food was bland and felt like it had been sitting there ages. The room was like a turkish baths with heat and was difficult to control the temp. Its very very basic for the money they are charging for a room- with what we got it was worth at most half that price. You would be better off with a travel lodge - plus this one is literally in the middle of a tiny village but hasnt the charm to pull that off as a "break away" destination

Review 2:We booked this for a local event in the area in which we needed somewhere close to stay. In fairness they did let us check in early as we arrived on an early flight.

Review 3:It was slightly tired and could do with updating

Review 4:It was good value for money. The adjoining Toby Carvey was excellent and provided good quality food at exceptionally cheap prices.

Review 5:Very limited contact with staff members, as this is also a pub. Check-in happens on a tiny desk in the middle of a crowded restaurant.

Review 6:Situated right in front of a train station and a bus stop

Review 7:The rubber protective sheet on the mattress. The duvet was too warm for me. There was not a bar of soap or shampoo in the bathroom. There were no infusions in the room and I don't drink instant coffee or black tea. At breakfast there was no hot milk.

Review 8:The room was spacious. Nice big, clean bathroom and lovely towels. Plenty of storage and hanging space in the room. The restaurant is cosy, the food excellent and very good value for money. The service was friendly and efficient. Plenty of parking space. Useful shops and restaurants nearby. Buses and trains on the doorstep - very well situated. Reminds me of my youth - I drank with a huge group of friends in the then Eden Park Hotel (Toby Bar) over 45 years ago when the disco on Saturday nights was unmissable!

Review 9:Th place is in urgent need of refurbish-very tired and lacked basic facilities like an iron and board. The room was cold and the heater did not work, the shower flooded and they were very frugal with towel allocation. They got out booking wrong and so our son did not have a pull out bed to sleep on and my husband ended d up being in another room. The sign posts in the hotel were badly positioned so getting lost was easy when you did find your room as no one showed us.

Review 10:Location for public transport and ease of booking

Review 11:no duvet on bed when arrived, had to ask for it.all side plugs. For hairdryer TV and lights kept blowing ,has to request retrieved and new hairdryer.and sink plug could not be removed so sink constantly full of dirty water.

Review 12:Very pleasant voice staff, good breakfast ,comfortable bed

Review 13:The room was lovely, spotless clean, bright and airy with a really comfy bed. All the staff were so pleasant and helpful. I would definitely stay there again and recommend to my friends. Great value for money.

Review 14:Rather dated décor, access door lock broken from public area to bedroom areas, not secure at all.

Review 15:Convenient for travel into London, onwards to M25 etc. Breakfast available.

Review 16:Cleaner did'nt vacuum rug for the 4 days we were there Breakfast dishes not cleared; my husband could not clear them since he walks with crutches and was alone while o was at a course in london

Review 17:Handicapped bathroom excellent Staff helpful

Review 18:Had to wait 30 minutes for a bar snack on arrival. Understaffed in bar area. 1 man doing everything. Arrived back at 11ish bedroom was freezing could not get heating to work. bed was very uncomfortable big dip in middle. Only one tea bag (we shared) could not be bothered to ring down for more. Good job because when we went down for breakfast same young man seemed to be doing everything clearing tables and replenishing tea etc:

Review 19:LOCATION. Reception and check in was very efficient

Review 20:I didn't like that we had to walk through the dinning room while people where eating with our suitcases or when we wanted to leave the building. It would be better to have a seperate corrider to access the rooms.

Review 21:Booked this as we where attending a wedding near by. Staff where friendly and room was a good size.

Review 22:Room was tired and in need of a bit of TLC. Bed too soft and rather old.

Review 23:Location was good for Beckenham. Very friendly staff. Quiet room.Decent size.

Review 24:Toilet could have been cleaner on first night, rectified without complaining next day, must have been different cleaner? Bath sheet no 2 not left for second night.

Review 25:Beds so comfy

Review 26:Toiletseats were loose both in room 11 and 15. Room 15 - our daughter got red marks om her belly, like she had been bitten by something. Showerstand hanging off wall in room 15 and no shower soap in room 11.

Review 27:Breakfast was great

Review 28:We were at the front of the building and found it quite noisy at night with the busy traffic and the trains across the road.

Review 29:we visit family in Shirley and the Innkeepers is close by and we find the staff are very friendly.

Review 30:There was no do not disturb sign. Housekeeping did not lock our door after being in our room. ( we were out all day and didn't get home till 9pm) Main door to rooms was left on latch! I had to take it off and make sure it closed properly. Thankfully for us there were no items , jewellery or money taken from the room. An easy one to get to as it was first one (No 25). I did let duty manager know.

Review 31:Staff were friendly and helpful. Location suited our needs

Review 32:wi-fi was a bit slow.

Review 33:staff were very helpful even though they were always busy, the rooms were spotless and the station across the road was great for a trip into London.

Review 34:Car park evidently sometimes used as Saturday afternoon dope-smoking by local chaps. They soon went, though but a bit off putting! Place needs separate check in for hotel guests. Smoke smell in corridors unacceptable.

Review 35:Good value, basic breakfast included, good location, comfy room, good shower.

Review 36:Carvery all the time (3nights) bit too much.Bit tired decoration

Review 37:Great location for us to get to job, Food was good, breakfast (continental) was fine, colleague was less than enthused about cooked breakfast however. Close by to other carry out shops (chinese very nice) when Carvery becomes to much! good TV in room and shower.

Review 38:All good...

Review 39:Convenience for me... Easy oasy.. Clean.. Locked door.. Running water... Value for money... Food on premises if need be... Will use again...

Review 40:The pub has been redecorated but the rooms although clean and tidy need to be treated to a thorough update

Review 41:Lovely food evening and mornings with very helpful staff

Review 42:Ladies toilets needed refurbishing but caused no hardship.

Review 43:The staff put themselves out for me. I wanted to do some research on the Internet before I left. They sat me in a quiet corner and fed me coffee-which is what I needed. The room was beautifully clean and there was plenty of car parking space. It was very handy having a carvery available as it offered me 'high protein low carb' which is my dietary issue.

Review 44:Have used this hotel many times and know the area well. Cannot think of any better situation in area. The facility to travel from there conveniently is superb. The Staff are similarly top class in all regards. The convenience of Toby Carvery is a bonus. Carvery probably the best of the many dozens we have used around the UK. The Manager and his Staff are completely unflappable in spite of the huge popularity of this venue.

Review 45:> 5 mins waiting at the bar/reception to check in - no apology or acknowledgement - staff too busy with drinks orders - smell of dirty glasses - carvery meal - very disappointing - food served, but then 5 min wait for warm gravy; pepper pot on table empty, replacement also empty! Beef too chewy to eat, had to wait 10 mins for replacement meat. Drinks very expensive. - General grubbiness throughout establishment, including dirty/dusty corners in room. - Bed - very uncomfortable - poor mattress - I also moved, everytime partner turned - poor night's sleep. - Dirty crockery at breakfast (hadn't been properly washed). No Earl Grey tea.

Review 46:The buffet English breakfast was very poor quality.

Review 47:The hotel is located opposite Eden Park station, which is convenient for trains to London. The food in the adjoining carvery was good (for lunch and dinner).

Review 48:The staff at the hotel/restaurant were all really busy as restaurant was 'bursting at the seams' on a Tuesday night, but they were still all friendly and helpful. The carvery was excellent value for money and the food was fantastic-would definitely stay again.

Review 49:Nothing really, but if I was being fussy I'd say please also provide preserves for breakfast, as I am allergic to marmalade and chocolate spread.

Review 50:Supply of requested extra pillows was provided. Assistance at breakfast with faulty water/tea urn was rectified quickly and helpfully. Continental breakfast was excellent and superior to other hotels. Having the option of a cooked breakfast was not necessary for me but a great option to have for those who need it. I noted the hotel had provided security window alarms, which is very comforting to those traveling alone, particularly in London. Sad that it is necessary but great that they thought of this extra point.

Review 51:In the morning one member of staff was at the bar on her phone when I asked her for more orange juice she didn't even look up from her mobile to answer me! RUDE! but she was the only downside to our stay.

Review 52:Stayed with my other half in a ground floor room, was very comfortable with a massive bed. Every other member of staff was very helpful and friendly especially the young manager that checked us in and saw us out the next morning :)

Review 53:Green light on in the room all night. No shower curtain.

Review 54:15 family members booked in for lunch after a fiuneral. Staff were attentive and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for the. Continentle breakfast was free and good choices.

Review 55:I have had the pleasure of staying here several times.I like the locality its 20mins from London but you have got the hassle of been in central London and of course the high prices. There is a gym and spa nearby and lots of restaurants and shopping in nearby Beckenham and Bromley .My oyster card gets plenty of use .I travel from Doncasre in Yorkshire and I love it

Review 56:Close to bus and rail. Very friendly and helpful staff. Delicious meals in the lodge restaurant available. Rooms very cosy and clean.lots of old English style atmosphere about the building and furniture.

Review 57:Breakfast is such great value and the carvery great. Try the potato bake for breakfast couldn't get enough of it. Good value for money all round accommodation and food.

Review 58:Staff were friendly but obviously short staffed as had to wait a while to be served anything.carvery was nice except for the veg and breakfast was OK.would stay again though if in area. Room was comfortable but bathroom could have been cleaner.

Review 59:Very comfortable bed. Nice friendly staff.

Review 60:Well the fire alarm was set off in the middle of the night but we were generously compensated with a cooked breakfast.( Which we liked).

Review 61:The room was spotless as was the bathroom. The bed was lovely and comfortable and clean. The breakfast menu was extensive and the option of cooked breakfast was excellent, and checking out was no problem at all.

Review 62:We couldn't get the heating to work in our room so it was pretty cold and the bed was very uncomfortable, you need a new one in that room. Room lacking in any kind of atmosphere.

Review 63:The continental breakfast was reasonable.

Review 64:Couldn't get heater to work on second night so very cold Not much choice of food if you don't want a full meal - but sainsburys across the road

Review 65:Close to local shops Good continental breakfast included Food cheap if you are into car very

Review 66:Nothing to report

Review 67:All staff were very friendly and extremely helpful when asked about any matter. Room was spacious and clean. Excellent value for the money and food was to a good standard, well priced.

Review 68:All the staff were excellent, helpful and understanding, especially as we were burying our daughter, we were feeling very low,and the help and understanding of your staff were second to none.

Review 69:Room could have been cleaner. (Hoovered) a little tired in halls and no head board on one bed. Think that cooked breakfast and dinner should be offered at a discounted price if you are staying at hotel.bed on wheels if your short then it will move when you try to get in or sit on it. Lol

Review 70:Location, friendly staff,car parking.

Review 71:The room was so very hot as the radiator was blasting out heat; the window wouldn't open until a member of staff came up to the room and forced it open, and then it couldn't be shut! The window frame was warped, but the security lock was in the way of shutting the double glazing anyway!. Also, because the window was permanently open, the smoke from the smokers area on the patio below wafted into our room. Unpleasant! The toilet flush handle came off in my hand and the toilet bowl could have done with some bleach down it, as could the corners of the shower, which were a bit mouldy.

Review 72:Nice room, clean bedding. Nice ambiance and furniture.

Review 73:Comparing this with the Holiday Inn and the Marrietts, which we have stayed in recently, this is VERY poor value for money. The bathroom which looked very tired, didn't even have soap to wash your hands, never mind any other bits. There was a continual buzzing noise from the electrical fan motors on the outside wall, keeping us awake all night. We came in after midnight and had to go through the back entrance, which was dark and close to the rubbish bins. The continental breakfast was just OK, except we wasn't offered fresh tea or coffee. It was help yourself from an urne of water.

Review 74:The room was clean.

Review 75:Had to wait to check in. Staffs were very busy with the carvery side. No dedicated checking area?parking was an issue. Resident had no parking priority .

Review 76:All was good

Review 77:WiFi, while free, was dire. Not hotels own, but supplied by O2.

Review 78:Very nice, clean room. Very comfortable bed and surprisingly quiet considering how busy the pub below was.

Review 79:The room was quite dated, very dusty, couldn't open windows, bed was smaller than most hotels I've stayed in

Review 80:That it was part of a Toby carvery. Breakfast was good

Review 81:book in reception and carvery reception the same, sometimes very busy. 3pm book in is a bit late but reception always seems busy.

Review 82:Location was good, across the road from rail station to London. A BUSY pub with a carvery so food overall was good. Service in pub was ok. My room was clean and adequate for me. The window in my room was adjacent to car park but noise from departing guest was minimal. Plenty of car parking provided you park early prior to carvery hours. Certainly would stay there again.

Review 83:Pub visitors and diners were the priority not the overnight guests. I think there should be a separate desk for dealing with customers staying overnight, eg for payment I didn't like that I had to queue up at the bar to make a payment that the staff seemed unaware I hadn't already paid. We have never stayed overnight where there hasn't been a separate entrance at the accommodation and we arrived very late due to a long journey and bad traffic and were unable to get any answer when phoning to say that we had been delayed. We arrived at 11:30pm to a closed building as obviously the pub had closed to have to knock on the pub window to get a member of staff. Travelling with a 20 month old child, not being able to get through to anybody caused a bit of panic that we would not be able to get in at all. I think it needs to be made much clearer on booking.com about check-in times and the fact that you use the pub entrance to access the accommodation. Breakfast was disappointing we had to ask for everything bread, bowls, glasses, spoons a member of staff needs to be put in charge of seeing to the guest continental breakfast area as we had to keep going to find somebody to ask which as i said travelling with a young child was not easy.

Review 84:Room was clean and quiet and we were shown to our room when we arrived. Parking was available and free.

Review 85:The room phone wouldn't accept our Visa Card. There was no Toilet Brush in the Bathroom, The adults large double Bed should have been replaced a long time ago (it was lumpy and saggy). There were 4 of us in the room but there were only three towels supplied. The shower drain was partially blocked so it steadily filled up as you showered. The room service was a bit hit and miss as follows.. The first day the toilet wasn't cleaned and beds not made up although towels (x3) were replaced. The 2nd day I left a note and all was done. I requested a toilet brush set for the room but none was forthcoming. The Extract Fan in the bathroom ran continuously so Bathroom door next to Adults Bed had to be kept shut to block off its noise during the night. Despite all this we would probably stay here again.

Review 86:We liked the location. Eden Park Station just across the road made catching the Train into London on the South Eastern Line super easy. We liked the Continental Breakfast included in the Room Rate. We liked the room, nice and spacious and generally clean and tidy. The Carvery and Pub downstairs made emergency evening feeding easy if required. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 87:It was noisy one night - weather was nice so we had window open and fellow diners were making a noise late as they left restaurant below

Review 88:Location, comfy bed and great food in the restaurant

Review 89:Receiuved confirmation of cot being ordered for the room but had to ask again on arrival.

Review 90:Friendly and helpful staff., A poleasure to stay at location.

Review 91:Problem with the outer security door means that you have to go through the busy restaurant to get to the rooms. OK going out. I think this is going to be sorted soon. Problem with one of the bedside lamps which was not fixed during our stay but Innkeepers compensated me to a level that I was happy with.

Review 92:Helpful and friendly staff. The train station just over the road gives good access to London (approx 30 mins). The Toby Carvery which is part of the premises and very good value. Free parking, flood lit and with security cameras. We left the car untouched for three days. This is a cheaper option if you want to visit the capital and have a car to park. We travelled into the city on all three of our days, the use of Oyster cards make the cost of the journey very reasonable. You also have the option to buy a ticket to use for certain places of interest that are 2 for 1 if you show a valid rail ticket.

Review 93:I suppose the facilities are starting to look a bit "tired" now, although the rooms were a good size and nicely decorated. Noise in the late evening from guests leaving the restaurant was a minor irritation. The Reception is combined with the bar downstairs!

Review 94:Location is pretty good if you are visiting Beckingham. Taxi rank just outside and the Golf club is about a 20 minutes walk through the school grounds. We only had Continental breakfast at the Lodge, but it was adequate and plenty off it.

Review 95:A little wider menu would help if you stay more than one day.

Review 96:We were a huge group of about 20 from all different places and different ages. The staff welcomed us and coped with every query and request with a smile. Thank you so much. The carvery was great for informal eating, rooms were very adequate although a little worn in places. Overall a great success and we will return.

Review 97:Broken toilet seat, rubbish bin not emptied, (the local supermarket was closed for remodelling- not the Inn's fault). Staff seemed to have to to take care of restaurant customers before Inn customers.

Review 98:Above a decent restaurant pub. Walking distance from our destination. Fair-sized room. Ample parking.

Review 99:My only complaint was that in Room 9 a blue night light burned all night and could not be turned off. I complained to the African bartender but nothing was done. it burned on 2nd night as well. It disturbed my sleep.

Review 100:Food good. Bedrooms spacious and comfortable. would defiantly return there.

Review 101:The main bed in the family room is horrible, it's very soft and you find yourself trying to sleep on the edge of the bed as it dips in the middle like a triangle ! Overall, the room needs a little updating, there's a certain knack to turning on the side lamp but it is clean.

Review 102:The family room was spacious and the whole experience was great as a base for Beckenham. The staff were friendly, the continental and English breakfast were both great, the room was noisy with the window open from the outside noise, but a necessity as it was so hot ! Altogether a great stay and we will probably be staying again when visiting family.

Review 103:Breakfast should not really be called 'Continental'-no rolls, boiled eggs, ham, cheese, pastries or fresh fruit! Possibly a ploy to get one to buy the cooked breakfast? Television screen in bedroom was on the wall opposite one bed. (Twin room).

Review 104:Extra pillows, ground floor room. Next to restaurant-convenient.

Review 105:First night was noisy due to other guests banging doors. Windows in room were very dirty. Shower was constantly dripping. Cooked breakfasts were overcooked.

Review 106:Good location for public transport - ie.buses and trains. Continental breakfast very good value and choice. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Review 107:Room was nice and clean. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent. Good location right opposite the Train Station.

Review 108:If you are sensitive about food you may not be comfortable with the sights and smells of the adjoining Carvery!

Review 109:Bed was a little hard and would be small for 2 people

Review 110:Very clean, large room

Review 111:Staff are lovely, nice atmosphere. Conveient to where we needed to go. Food was lovely. Busy with a nice atmosphere.

Review 112:Convenient location, staff very friendly, comfy rooms

Review 113:road noise people noise not a lot off sleep elephant in room above not good

Review 114:The bed was rather uncomfortable

Review 115:The staff bent over backwards to help us and accommodate our early arrival.

Review 116:Very helpful and courteous staff.

Review 117:Toby carvery right on the premises. So convenient to train station

Review 118:N/A

Review 119:Car parking . Good staff Good food Near Station

Review 120:liked all on offer

Review 121:very good all round

Review 122:Accommodation accessed through the busy carvery.

Review 123:The room and bathroom were clean, and room surprisingly quiet. Cheap compared to others in area.

Review 124:Easy access to London, station opposite direct into Charing Cross

Review 125:Nothing

Review 126:Perfect place to stay staff and food excellent good base for London trips

Review 127:Always a pleasure

Review 128:Clean & spacious room. Good shower. Good food - great breakfast. Friendly & efficient staff.

Review 129:The breakfast was a buffet. Pay £3.99 and eat as much as you wish.

Review 130:Everything was fine

Review 131:Good location and value for money. Very accessible staff polite and helpful
