Reviews for Grandwood House
Review 1:I think the place needs a "feminine" touch. No valance sheet on bed (showing mattress), etc... Decor is tired. General touches of "luxury" would go a long way to make the place .... perfect
Review 2:Lovely setting and very welcoming, friendly host. tasty breakfast... Great facilities in general. Would recommend.
Review 3:Description gave idea that would be staying in a 1907 house but in fact it was a chalet in garden which had no heat on arrival, plenty of cobwebs and uncleaned surfaces. Towels were rust stained. No spoons to make a cup of tea to keep warm until late evening when heating and hot water was finally fixed after several phone calls to owner of property. TV was high on wall in corner not aiding viewing from anywhere in room. Quite disappointed - had high hopes of a pleasant birthday away in an old character house.
Review 4:Quiet. Breakfast was quite tasty but presentation not.
Review 5:No mobile telephone reception. Accommodation overall was "tired" and general cleanliness was not great.
Review 6:Separate seating area in bedroom for relaxing and watching TV. Comfortable bed. Very good breakfast. Nice pub nearby.
Review 7:Difficult to find, even with the help of a GPS. would have helped if a conspicuous sign identified the property as it was in a remote rural area.
Review 8:Friendly, helpful staff. Good selection at breakfast. WiFi was excellent.
Review 9:The room was in a converted garage. Had problems closing and locking the door only 2 teabags provided for a 4 night stay. No hairdryer
Review 10:Comfy bed good shower suitable for pets. Safe secure grounds
Review 11:Location was difficult to find. Rooms needed a good clean. All pretty basic, not good value for money. No phone or wifi connections
Review 12:Pretty surroundings
Review 13:Trying to find it in the dark ( with Sat Nav)!
Review 14:Once I'd found it, next morning I really loved the views. Garden looked lovely I like the one big dining table for breakfast too
Review 15:The bed was damp, the room was cold, the shower head was so filthy I couldn't shower and the gate access is extremely dangerous (i.m.o) my car was left dangling in the road on a blind bend.. All this and I was charged top price. I will not be stay here again.
Review 16:Nothing
Review 17:Only bath not even showerhead Not that clean Host seemed constantly in a hurry Free but very unreliable wifi
Review 18:Nice english breakfast Beautiful environment Spacious bathroom
Review 19:The place is very basic and is not worth the money. Bear in mind that the there is a very poor phone connectiom and the Wifi doens't work in the rooms. The accomodation itself is literally a converted garage/ shed with walls, in the garden. The owner is not a frendly person either.
Review 20:The surrounding nature is the only positive thing about this property.
Review 21:Accommodation in outdoor cabins, poor insulation (privacy issue), rooms not clean, marked towels and bed linen. No advice given about accessing wi fi.
Review 22:Could have used a little extra attention to detail. The odd cobweb needed removing. Half used bottle of wine left in room.
Review 23:Accommodation in nice little chalet style buildings away from the main house. Owner (Dave) good sense of humour at breakfast.
Review 24:Poor beds, room not really up to standard I'd expect from a property of this rating. Room badly in need of an update and the bathroom in need of soap refills, and a good clean.
Review 25:Lovely place and hospitable host.
Review 26:Our bad experiences was when we returned at 10pm with the key we had been given we couldn't get in, a key had been left in the lock on the other side of the door and no one was home. Also bathroom was not very clean.
Review 27:The garden is lovely, and our breakfast was very good . Our host had gone to the trouble of getting us a vegetarian breakfast.
Review 28:The place did not look properly cared for - running down. Weeds between the courtyard's paving stones, gardening poor. In the entrance/dining area/kitchen (all in one) the morning's washing-up not done [it was 6 pm]; generally not clean; no toilet paper (and no staff that evening to get some); no shower other than an attachable rubber hosepipe. It seems that insufficient attention, staff and money are currently being devoted to the property.
Review 29:The beds were comfortable; the bacon at breakfast was good
Review 30:Beautiful, tranquil surroundings and a very friendly, welcoming host! Set on its own amongst the fields, with just sheep for neighbours, Grandwood House provides the most peaceful weekend break! Walderton village (and the local pub) is just a short walk away and Chichester only a 15 minute drive. Chris cooked a delicious full English (or whatever variation you requested) and the open plan kitchen/diner and group breakfast table made for great conversation; a very refreshing experience in comparison to some places I have stayed in, where the dining room 'awkwardness' makes you hurry to leave. Thoroughly enjoyable and recommended!
Review 31:Nothing it was excellent.
Review 32:Accomodation was in excellent condition, bed was very comfortable and the shower was great. Our room was in a building in the garden and we had the code for the gate which meant we were free to come and go as we wished which we really liked. Chris was an excellent host easy to talk too and makes a superb breakfast with plenty to choose from cereal, yogurt, fruit, full English. We would certainly go again and recommend it to our friends.
Review 33:did find the shower/wc area a bit cramp to what we are normally use to
Review 34:lovely location, very good breakfast, friendly owner very welcoming accommodation clean and bed comfortable would certainly recommend a good place to stay close to Chichester
Review 35:walls were a bit thin and could hear the people in the other room
Review 36:location in the country side, great host who enjoys a chat, private facilities and secure of street parking. Good choice of breakfast cooked as we chatted with other guests. Great country pub down the road with excellent choice of meals
Review 37:Absolute privacy and peace, listening to owls hooting at night, the owner getting up early to make me breakfast before I left for work and giving me fruit to take with me - above and beyond!
Review 38:Some fittings in one room/bathroom a bit tired - but other room was newer / more recently updated
Review 39:Relaxed, friendly, good value and comfortable
Review 40:The shower could have been cleaner and the bottom sheet needed ironing. But very good value for money and would go back
Review 41:The situation, room, food. And the owner Chris was an excellent host. Never a dull moment at the breakfast table. And what a breakfast, be warned if you are a small eater let him know the night before.
Review 42:Couldn't fault the short visit we had
Review 43:Although only stayed one night we found the whole experience a delight - we were made most welcome, the bed was VERY comfortable and the breakfast was second to none. We will come again when in the area
Review 44:We were up in the eaves! Double bedroom but a little cramped, just space to squeeze around far side of bed to get in. Bathroom/toilet, though our own, had no shower, just corner bath and jug to wash hair! To be fair, landlord did say he had yet to "sort this room out" but we booked on-line so had no way of knowing before arrival. Not convinced this yet deserves AA 4 Star rating, we've stayed in a few, we would need to see other rooms I guess. Perhaps ours wasn't in the assessment.
Review 45:Beautiful country location (if you don't mind the drive!) and SOOO quiet! Nice welcome. Good full breakfast, though it's taken communally - 1 large table, which puts some people off. Security gate so come and go as you please.
Review 46:Would have preferred a shower over the bath, but otherwise bathroom well equipped.
Review 47:Plentiful and varied breakfast, well cooked, large range of fruit. Friendly and informative owner. Beautiful garden with outdoor seating. Peaceful location, short walk to pub. Plenty of parking with locked gate.
Review 48:Room could do with a bit more sound insulation.Couple next door were really thoughtful about noise but could still hear plug switches and coat hangers rattling.
Review 49:Owner was exceptionally friendly and helpful.Nothing was too much trouble.
Review 50:Thinness of walls with neighbouring chalet. Could hear talking and TV loudly. Had to bang on wall to ask them to turn it off so we could sleep. Would have preferred a choice of cooked breakfast eg scrambled egg rather than the full which was too large for us.
Review 51:Comfy beds. Friendly hosts. Beautiful surroundings.
Review 52:Not clear several sleeping chalets in the grounds. No room service and lacking a shower mat.
Review 53:Marvellous location Excellent breakfast around kitchen table with other guests. Helpful and congenial host.
Review 54:Quite thin walls between the 2 outside apartments.
Review 55:Lovely feeling to the whole place, v at home, the owner was v helpful and knowleable about the area.
Review 56:Very difficult to find the name of the house, due to one board being obscured by a hedge, and the other lying on the ground. Our room was not serviced during the four nights that we were there. The bathroom was poorly designed, with two washbasins (one would have sufficed,) a bidet (hardly a necessity), but no shower or even shower head over the bath. Because our room was over the kitchen, we got cooking smells morning and evening. There was no lock on the bedroom door. Unkempt state of the whole place - maybe it would help to employ someone who could either help at breakfast-time, or help with cleaning. How long ago did it get its AA status?
Review 57:The location, the breakfasts. The owner was helpful and friendly, giving good advice about the locality, but had too much to do.
Review 58:The bin in the room hadn't been emptied before we arrived.
Review 59:Nice quite location, friendly pub a few minutes drive away with great food. Dog friendly. Owners very helpful and friendly, loved the cooked breakfast.
Review 60:It was a bit hard to find, praps a bigger sign outside.
Review 61:The informal yet unobtrusive feel to our weekend, which made it so relaxing. I felt really well cared for. The breakfast was delicious, eaten in a lovely kitchen looking out over beautiful countryside, what more could you ask for!
Review 62:I have bad knees and so found it very difficult without a shower. Being in the room above the kitchen/dining room we were awakened by the early breakfast guests each morning chatting to the proprieter
Review 63:Pretty secluded spot away from the hustle of the south coast. Friendly staff and good service
Review 64:Breakfast
Review 65:breakfast was not that good
Review 66:nice area
Review 67:Excellent stay. Home from home would highly recommend it

Review 73:Comfortable room, good bathroom. Able to control heat. Good English breakfast well cooked. Chris was very friendly.
Review 74:Tired decor and poor water pressure. No ironing board and iron.

Review 77:every thing was so fine and well attended to a dream break was had by all
Review 78:Very friendly, good value, excellent breakfast and lovely location.

Review 80:Our room didn't have Wifi, although this was specified that some rooms might not.
Review 81:Beautiful surroundings.
Review 82:garden was a treat breakfast superb ; no need for lunch!
Review 83:No shower.
Review 84:Chris was very helpful given the late arrival and early start.
Review 85:Lovely stay, great location. Would certainly go back!
Review 86:Difficult to get good wifi signal
Review 87:Amazing breakfast! Very friendly staff.
Review 88:No showers
Review 89:Homely feeling
Review 90:Nothing.
Review 91:Quite and secure. And not over looked.
Review 92:Grounds were very pretty but neglected could have made made more appealing with a little care and general tidying up.
Review 93:Good location for our stay
Review 94:TV didn't work & there was no Wifi in the room
Review 95:Owner was very nice
Review 96:perfect location for visiting elderly relative. Very nice & obliging host.
Review 97:Condensation particularly in the bathroom. Narrow single bed.
Review 98:Friendly welcoming host, good breakfast.
Review 99:No negatives
Review 100:Staying within a National Park but still close to a good local Pub and Chichester.
Review 101:Very satisfied.
Review 102:Friendly owner, homely atmosphere, very clean& comfortable. Lovely area.
Review 103:Not quite the level expected of four stars - but probably OK for the price.
Review 104:Excellent location, pleasant rooms and good breakfasts
Review 105:Hard to find
Review 106:Quiet and picturesque
Review 107:Nice staff. Nice pub not too far away
Review 108:Comfortable and well appointed rooms ,clean with friendly staff, and a delicious breakfast couldn't ask for anything better
Review 109:The host made us feel very welcome
Review 110:' cabin' in the garden for sleeping, rather dim. Insufficient chairs to make watching TV comfortable.
Review 111:Good breakfast
Review 112:Found nothing to dislike.
Review 113:Pleasant, friendly staff, clean, good breakfast. The local taxi recommended was ideal.
Review 114:Really friendly staff. Felt right at home.
Review 115:nothing, I thought it was very good
Review 116:Very pleasant owner, good sized room, well maintained grounds.
Review 117:Smallness of room and tv a bit dated.
Review 118:the owner was great. Very friendly and accommodating. Garden was pretty and well maintained. Nice breakfast.
Review 119:The only improvement I would make would be some extra insulation on the walls between the two rooms of the outside apartments.
Review 120:After a very stressful week we required a peaceful location with friendly staff. This is what we got plus comfort and value for money. the breakfast was very good and plenty to choose from with a real at home feeling at the table. The garden was a joy to sit in and enjoy other guests or if you wanted you could sit anywhere with a book. The location is served by some very pleasant local pubs and restaurants, a car is needed being in the heart of the country but this is what we wanted, there are some nice walks also.
Review 121:Bed a bit soft and wallowy for our taste and the walls between the two outside B&B rooms very thin so you could hear every noise from nextdoor.
Review 122:Friendly welcome, excellent breakfast and beautiful garden as well as being in a stunning location.
Review 123:Room a bit small. TV small 14ins.Only 1 upright chair. Outdoor surroundings untidy.
Review 124:Good breakfast. heating system rapid and good. We would probably stay again.
Review 125:Rather small room with limited hot water. Noise could be heard from next door TV and neighbours.
Review 126:Great hospitality and super b'fast. Quiet country location suited us well
Review 127:Scolding shower when toilet is flushed, a real danger!!! Sitting and eating in the kitchen where the breakfast is being prepared and cooked. The ridiculously cramped washing facilities. Small (old) T.V.
Review 128:The location.
Review 129:Bath is not suitable for aging persons as a shower would be preferable and there is plenty of room to accommodate.
Review 130:The scrumptious breakfasts
Review 131:website implies everybody is in main house rather than annexe
Review 132:food and staff, area and local pubs
Review 133:No shower in bathroom.
Review 134:Nice quiet location.
