Reviews for Lysses House Hotel

Review 1:Parking round the back, luckily I was able to get on the front.

Review 2:The Staff really make this place, everyone from Reception to the Housemaids are all very nice.

Review 3:everything, water was cold, heating on full blast, too hot in the 'room' unhelpful and grumpy staff, no toilet paper on arrival, bed smelt.

Review 4:leaving

Review 5:Slight lack of communication between Reception staff when arranging items out of the ordinary although they did try and rectify the situation.

Review 6:The food in the restaurant is something I would expect in a five star restaurant in a city. In addition the restaurant staff go out of their way to accommodate you. really good customer care.

Review 7:Other than at breakfast, no food available on Sundays.

Review 8:The helpfulness and friendliness of all the staff including those servicing the rooms. The location being so near shops, restaurants etc, An old building with plenty of character.

Review 9:We arrived and unpacked, locked our door and went out. When we returned my husband was able to open the door without the key. The locking mechanism was broken. We were offered another room which we accepted. It was a shame as we had unpacked our belongings. Lack of fresh fruit for breakfast was a disappointment.

Review 10:We had a lovely lunch time meal on the Sunday. It was hot and beautifully cooked. Thank you.

Review 11:Room was a little dated Bathroom was very dated - required a total refit Single room was quite small

Review 12:Hotel staff were lovely - very helpful and friendly Breakfast was great - from light breakfast to full English. Veggie option was great, few places have veggie sausage and veggie bacon. Location was good - off the high street and free parking available

Review 13:Long way from the train station which mattered as I had a long walk at the other end to do the great south run.

Review 14:Impressed that it's the first ever hotel I've stayed in that served vegetarian bacon with my veggie breakfast :-)

Review 15:Sadly the hotel was taken over by a wedding party, hence evening meal was unavailable to us, room 23 is very tired with mould in the very cramped bathroom! Took ages to get a drink at the bar and wedding guests looked at us as if we shouldn't have been there, they were stood in doorways and basically you had to ask them to move to get through, very rude people!!!

Review 16:Pleasant staff, excellent breakfast!

Review 17:Restaurant was expensive and the shower in our room was not good water all over the place and a shower curtain which insisted on cuddling you lol

Review 18:The Staff were very good the hotel although full was very quite

Review 19:The room we stayed in here hasn't seen a paintbrush for years and the paper is peeling off the walls in places. The shower was as clean as it could be bearing in mind the mould. We stayed in room 23 . I don't know if the others are the same, hopefully not. It was overpriced considering the condition of the room. Breakfast was average.

Review 20:It was easy to get into Portsmouth from here by train. The gardens of the hotel are lovely and the staff are very helpful.

Review 21:The room was shabby and in need of refurbishment. The loo needed cleaning and the loo brush was disgusting. There was a wedding on during our stay so we couldn't use the bar or the restaurant and there was a lot of noise from the disco.

Review 22:The location was great, with a good amount of parking at the rear. It was handy for Goodwood.

Review 23:Personal preference but the mattress was way too soft. Smallish car park but did manage to get a space as not too busy.

Review 24:The location was good in between Portsmouth, Southampton and on the edge of the New Forest. Equally good to walk into Fareham for shops and pubs/restaurants. Clean and well presented hotel.

Review 25:There was a wedding at the hotel during my stay which meant it was very noisy and no dinner was available.

Review 26:Well placed small hotel with private parking, good value for money

Review 27:It was exactly what we needed! Good location, fairly easy to find (we don't know the Fareham area!) comfortable, clean, friendly staff and a good breakfast.

Review 28:The staff were very accommodating and helped us settle our young child successfully back into the UK after being away in France. He couldn't get enough of the English milk!

Review 29:Only comment is that room looked a little tired but programme of refurbishment under way.

Review 30:Lovely staff, nothing too much trouble. Clean rooms and excellent food.

Review 31:The bathroom wasn't very attractive and felt quite cheap. The view wasn't nice, my window looked onto what seemed a staff smoking area...

Review 32:The location is excellent, the hotel itself was pretty, but nothing exciting

Review 33:The WiFi wasn't working in the evening which was very inconvenient as I wanted to prepare for meetings the following day

Review 34:Very pleasant atmosphere and staff

Review 35:Breakfast was very good but finishing at 9 o'clock was a little too early.

Review 36:We had five guests in for dinner on first night and food was excellent. Served quickly and efficiently.

Review 37:Door knobs to the bedrooms were very difficult to close and didn't all close the same way. Very old-fashioned method. Key card entry would be much better. Beds were too bouncy. Not everyone likes a very soft mattress. No walk-in showers which makes it difficult for the elderly or infirm to step into the bathtub. Rooms are very dated.

Review 38:Friendly staff, good location, good breakfast (apart from the coffee!).

Review 39:On arrival to a rather drab building. Room needed a lot to be desired,, suspended office type ceiling badly stained. Bed was worn out springs pinging every time you moved and very uncomfortable. Moving on to the bathroom found they had silicone around sink over mould and dirt, floor abutment to bath hanging off and crawling with bugs basically a room from hell. Breakfast ok nice staff. Not value for money had a lot better for £60 in the past very disappointed will never stay again.

Review 40:The bed was comfortable, but too small for 2 adults. Luckily the summer hasn't been hot. Breakfast was super, but we could not get a decent coffee. We requested 3 times, but it was ignored. However, whoever made coffee in the Bar knew what they were doing. Coffee in the morning is important to a lot of people and it is a pleasure that we look forward to (not thin hot brown water).

Review 41:Charming hotel, lovely friendly staff, loved the garden area and patio, very nice lounge. All easy going and comfortable and relaxing.

Review 42:Nothing.

Review 43:A lovely hotel and bedrooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff were incredible. They arranged to have our rooms ready early so we could get ready to attend a wedding. I left my car lights on in hotel car park on and they contacted us at the wedding venue. To save me having to return to hotel they went to my room located car keys and turned them off. Over and above their duties. Excellent service!!! Many thanks.

Review 44:The bathroom window doesn't have frosted glass (I doscovered this AFTER my shower...ooops!). The plug socket beside the bed needs a prize for being the hardest to reach I've ever seen! It might be better if the sign on the outside had the name of the hotel, rather than the restaurant- my guessing skills had some trouble...

Review 45:Quiet room. 24 hour reception. A hotel bar in the lounge (not a noisy public bar) and a restaurant which serves until 9.30pm. Helpful staff.

Review 46:Although clean, room rather sparse but adequate Good restaurant - would have like a little more choice (ie a pasta dish or similar) and when asking for sauces etc it would be nice if they were either there or quicker coming

Review 47:Peaceful Clean Excellent Staff - helpful and extremely professional Close to facilities

Review 48:Very slow service at breakfast. However, it did appear that everyone came down together..........

Review 49:Excellent Golden Wedding lunch, which I attended. Good service, superb selection of food and well presented.

Review 50:A clearer sign on the high street - first time in Fareham we drove past and had to come round again.

Review 51:A very pleasant, comfortable hotel, quiet - but then our party had it to ourselves, easy access from the motorway, Sevice friendly and helpful.

Review 52:Over priced as definitely a three star. Needs a refurbishment. Our room was small especially the bathroom which because the shower was an attachment had water everywhere. Expected more for the price we paid although shabby but clean.Breakfast could have been improved with fruit as cereal, fruit juice and cooked breakfast to get. Toast also included with tea and coffee.

Review 53:Staff were lovely.

Review 54:Quite noisy at times with inconsiderate slamming of doors. Never received my wake up call

Review 55:Great location, good breakfast, comfortable room. Parking easy and plentiful.

Review 56:Room was too warm and couldnt open window. Went out for an evening meal and had to wait quite a while for someone to give us our room key.

Review 57:Good location and easy to find and park. Lovely big room. and bathroom. Plenty of hot water and super fluffy towels.Hotel is very clean. Breakfast was really good.

Review 58:It was nice to be able to relax after a busy day with a lovely meal and a glass of wine. The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was very pleasant and it was very tasty, with a nice hot pot of tea.

Review 59:Free Wifi did not work at all. This was a major inconvenience and one of the reasons I booked this hotel. I reported the issue but it could not be rectified which was a real disappointment. The heating was on in the room when I arrived so the room was roasting (it was a very warm day so this was a bit strange). I tried to manually turn the radiator off but it didn't seem to work. I reported the issue but the room was still very warm for a few hours afterward which was quite uncomfortable.

Review 60:Staff were great, very friendly and helpful.

Review 61:Very poor sound proofing. We could hear guest stomping around all night and there was a wedding / private function and the guests were making so much noise and none of us(including our little boy) could sleep till 1am. very noise/shouty neighbours and the poor sound proofing made it so much worse!

Review 62:Location

Review 63:The walls were a bit thin and I could hear the room next to me talking late at night, but they kindly quieted down when requested.

Review 64:There was a slight situation with the initial room during my stay. The staff recovered the situation very well and I appreciate their consideration and management.

Review 65:Always found the staff friendly and efficient as I have stayed here a few times. Good choice of breakfast although would like more variety in fresh fruit, otherwise very good. Like the location close to shops and quietness. Sometimes visitors found it difficult to park, especially at week-ends. Lift only to 1st floor so this might be included on Hotel Information as carrying a case another floor level is difficult. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Review 66:Noisy neighbours! Had children knocking on our door at 11.30pm and people banging doors at 1.30am

Review 67:Lounge bar very comfortable, excellent food and comfortable room

Review 68:Very little choice at breakfast, bacon obviously pre-cooked and re-heated - tough as old boots. Insulation in rooms not very good, clearly hear people walking past room and opening/shutting door - not good when they come back at 3 am!

Review 69:Good bar food, warm room.

Review 70:The only thin that could be improved is the decor in the dining room,to bing it up to the high standard of the other public rooms.

Review 71:The food in the restaurant was excellent, complimented by friendly service. Although I found the bar appearance typically hotel like, this was more than compensated for by the friendly service and reasonably priced beer.

Review 72:The WiFi worked on my computer in my room, but it wasn't strong enough to work on my phone.

Review 73:The staff was attentive and the food was excellent! Parking and location was excellent!

Review 74:There was a Christmas party going on in the function room, which was no problem until late in the evening when several females were extremely drunk and lying around reception, another couple were blocking the front porch and were so 'involved' they didn't notice myself and my elderly mother trying to return to the hotel. Well after midnight two people started a shouting match under my bedroom window, waking me up, The hotel management should have had better control over the behaviour of the people using their facilities.

Review 75:Pleasant surroundings, good breakfast (evening meals not taken) and comfortable well equipped rooms.

Review 76:when asked for a highchair the waiter said he didn't think there was one. he did find one which was mainly clean but the straps and the legs weren't. obviously it doesn't get used much and maybe should be checked for cleanliness regularly.

Review 77:staff were very friendly. room was small but had everything we needed.

Review 78:Some staff still need to be customer focused.

Review 79:Location of hotel is good. The style of the rooms on the first floor very comfortable. Certainly value for money.

Review 80:Room had a bit of a caravan feel to it,especially in the bathroom. But fine for our needs and wasn't an expensive room. Didn't like their choice of breakfast sausages.

Review 81:Friendly staff and location

Review 82:Location of the shower gell bottle fixed on the wall over the bath is too high for children or dissable person to reach out. Alternative soap bar should be available should be needed.

Review 83:Centrally located in city center yet relaxing and quiete. Walking distance to all amenities. Friendly staff allowed us having our room check in early. Will stay at Lysses hotel anytime.

Review 84:Having to miss breakfast as I had to leave early

Review 85:Nice welcome from receptionist The night porter who made me tea when I had to leave before breakfast Car parking Location in the town but quiet

Review 86:The bed needed refurbishment as did the bathroom. The bathroom was clean but was showing its age.

Review 87:Restaurant staff were very friendly and attentive for a special occasion. The food was well prepared and there was a good choice of items on the menu.

Review 88:One room was left unlocked all day after cleaning.

Review 89:I found the Hotel very clean,Its location was fine for Portsmouth. The staff were very friendly and helpful,I would certainly return.

Review 90:the bed very uncomfortable. the shower temperature was uncontrolable very hot at times.

Review 91:garden area. Staff friendliness. Location was ideal for our purpose.

Review 92:Rooms, including bathroom, tired and in need of refurbishment. Mixer tap for shower not good, expected better for price.

Review 93:Particularly pleasant, helpful and friendly staff. Good location at top of High Street. Free wifi

Review 94:It was a shame not to be in the lovely Georgian part of the hotel.

Review 95:Good breakfast and the bar was available all night which is great to wind down in after a party.

Review 96:The bath towels in the bathroom were left damp and un tendered when they really needed changing. Additional hand towels were put in but the dirty ones not removed.

Review 97:The room size was adequate and in good condition. The room was easy to find and the staff very friendly and helpful. I was pleased to be able to park on site rather than away from the Hotel. We appreciated the breakfast being made earlier on the Sunday morning to be able to get away to Goodwood earlier as it was a bit of a distance away especially in an old car.

Review 98:Rooms not well signposted. Most hotels have signs that say "Rooms 10 - 20 this way" for example. Wi-Fi tended to be a bit unstable; maybe our rooms were at the limit of the range.

Review 99:Food was outstanding, as was service in the restaurant. A wedding in the hotel on the Saturday didn't cause us any inconvenience. The hotel recommended and reserved a table for us at a restaurant a short walk away and it was excellent.

Review 100:No choice of evening meals could only have summer special and food was not very hot,in fact pudding was cold. Beer in bar not very good and over priced

Review 101:Room was comfortable and spacious . Nice grounds and friendly helpful staff

Review 102:The Shower was abit tricky to operate, we had to keep adjusting the temp. If we were an older couple getting in and out of the bath to shower it would have been a problem.

Review 103:Loved most of our stay, the staff were fabulous it was a very homely feeling staying there. The location was great as you could walk to all the shopping and restaurant areas. would stay there again definitely.

Review 104:Bathroom dated and shower curtain had mildew on lower edge which produced an unsavoury smell.

Review 105:Easy to find. All as expected. Room on the small side but comfortable. Ample parking. Excellent breakfast included in the price.

Review 106:Breakfast options very basic Room was small and needs updating (worn green carpets, old soft matress)

Review 107:Location; Easy access to motorways Pleasent village with a good number of decent restaurant options and pubs Nice garden to relax in.

Review 108:Leaving, I would of loved to have stayed longer.

Review 109:Staff very attentive, with a polite voice and beaming smile, expecially front of house (reception) Bar and of course the Restaurant. The room was quite warm and you have to normally treck to request a fan, but this was already taken care of as one was already supplied in the room. This will be my first pick when I'm back in the area.

Review 110:Food and drink were a little expensive e.g. 2 soft drinks were over £5. however overall bill including room was very reasonable.

Review 111:the menu had a good range to it and food arrived promptly and well proportioned. Good quality towels and bathroom accessories provided. Wouldnt have minded staying longer.

Review 112:So noisy on arrival due to loud music..... But room a distance away so it was a non problem in the end. Bed was comfy but crowded! Additional info re 2 year old not passed on somehow..... So mum, son and grandma shared in a small double. A twin may have worked better.

Review 113:Receptionist was a star! Helpful and reassuring about a concern on arrival. Room was good...well appointed, comfy bed, good shower and towels. Great breakfast the next morning. Lovely waitress, good menu, good roomy dining room.

Review 114:No air conditioning in the rooms - very hot during my stay and fan was not sufficient No secure location e.g. safe for my valuables

Review 115:Good service, staff were always very helpful. Food was very good

Review 116:The hairdryer was the attached to the wall and did not have any temp settings. Thsi was a disapointment as I need to dry me hair on high to ensure it drys straight. As this was in the bathroom room ws constricted. The mixers on the taps were not good. You have really hot water pouring from the left and cold water on the right.

Review 117:Staff were really friendly, happy to help. I was only in there for 8 hours of which I slept for 6! The location is lovely. I had a room at the back and the morning view into their gardens was absolutely amazing.

Review 118:The prices of drinks in the bar are rather steep, particularly given that there is a pub just opposite..

Review 119:The location is excellent and the rear terrace is very pleasant.

Review 120:bed only a double, bathroom dated, horrible mildew round bath seals. cramped room. Windows wouldn't open. Breakfast was poor and the waitress got our order all wrong. Wife ordered croissants and they were obviously pre packed and re heated.

Review 121:the staff were very nice and polite.

Review 122:Room 7 comfortable but a little dark at the back of the Hotel. Step in the bathroom a bit tricky when getting out of the shower, and shower head sprayed water over everything!

Review 123:Lovely public rooms, excellent breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful

Review 124:Dirty and tired bathroom and room and less than competent staff, room cold and overall poor value for money

Review 125:Room/bathroom in need of decorating.

Review 126:Comfortable and clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Location convenient for our needs.

Review 127:Friendliness and politeness of staff. Excellent full English breakfast.

Review 128:Everything was very good .

Review 129:Dinner and Breakfast was very good. Well cooked and presented .

Review 130:All good

Review 131:Breakfast was good.

Review 132:a bit outdated. The room we where allocated had a high step in the bathroom which I thought to be dangerous

Review 133:good location

Review 134:Very helpful and friendly staff

Review 135:No bad experiences!

Review 136:My room was excellent, on the ground floor and very comfortable. Staff very helpfull and breakfast first class!

Review 137:Breakfast service was very slow

Review 138:Decor a little tired

Review 139:Location, good bathrooms
