Reviews for The Royal Oak Inn

Review 1:Food very good and good "buzzy" atmosphere. Room 5 was a great size and although it is over the bar/restaurant area, this did not cause us any problems.

Review 2:The New Year's eve meal was more expensive than it should have been in my view. My partner commented to me that the hair dryer in the bathroom was not as powerful as she expected.

Review 3:Friendly, helpful staff and comfortable room. Decor and room were good.

Review 4:My husband has Parkinson's so we were not able to stay in the accommodation booked. It is really disabled friendly sadly so we only stayed one night instead of 2.

Review 5:Loved the food

Review 6:Comfy, clean, well appointed rooms. Excellent bar/restaurant area with very good food choice and quality. Infinitely better than a soulless chain hotel and a little less expensive

Review 7:Exterior metal staircase to rooms. Noise from bar/ restaurant area - quiet during the night but woken early in morning as staff were preparing for breakfast. Could have been a problem for early bedders. Would need a taxi if we had wanted to eat elsewhere . No where else within walking distance.

Review 8:All the staff were very friendly & efficient. Stayed in room 5 which was spacious, clean, comfortable & well equipped. Restaurant was good with an extensive range of wines.

Review 9:From the moment we arrived and were meet by such friendly staff we knew we were going to have a wonderful weekend. The accommodation was fantastic a really nice room with lots of little extras included. The food was excellent as well.

Review 10:Everything about the Royal Oak is wonderful, from the location to the friendliness and efficiency of every member of staff, to the inviting interior. Everywhere is spotlessly clean, the rooms are very comfortable and the food is delicious.

Review 11:Room quite small( number 6)very small window so quite claustrophobic and was very hard to shut .A noisy chiller unit going 24/7 did'nt help.Food and drink quite expensive and did not live up to expectations I did request an alternative room from the owner she informed me they were full up though this was not the case for both nights.

Review 12:Location ,easy to find 10 minutes from Chichester.Breakfast very nice.

Review 13:In bedroom 6 the step down from the en suite is a little confusing and could result in a fall.

Review 14:Everything but the staff excelled in all ways. Polite, friendly and very helpful. They are all a big credit to this establishment.

Review 15:Poor wifi connection on all our devices so suspect their wifi rather than our devices.

Review 16:Picturesque location calming and relaxing atmosphere. Friendly professional staff. Lovely food.

Review 17:A little on the pricey side, but everything such high quality we didn't mind.

Review 18:Stayed in Room #1 (converted barn?) behind the inn - not a large room but very smartly decorated with large double bed and super shower room. Just a step away from the restaurant. Had dinner on one of our two nights and fish dishes were excellent. Breakfast even better with fresh fruit, cereals, various toasts and comprehensive cooked menu on offer. Friendly staff looked after us very well! Ideally located for Chichester and the Witterings.

Review 19:As a city dweller I thought it was a short walk from Goodwood - wasn't such a good idea as the lack of pavements saw me dodging traffic in hedges!

Review 20:Lovely traditional English pub feel. As you might expect with its proximity to Goodwood there is a motor racing theme in the residential parts. Delicious food and very friendly and helpful staff. Very nice toiletries. Highly recommended.

Review 21:Not the best place for vegetarians, very limited menu, only 1 main dish which was mediocre and overpriced. On arrival owner explained chefs are up for a challenge to make what we wanted but we found that was not the case when we asked for something very simple for supper.

Review 22:Stayed in the cottage which was very cosy, private and tastefully decorated. View from the residents garden was beautiful and pub gardens were lovely.

Review 23:None.

Review 24:Idyllic location, very peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed the activity of Chichester aerodrome whilst having afternoon tea. Delightful ambience in the restaurant and very friendly, attentive staff. On the spur of the moment break we certainly made the right choice and will be re-visiting.

Review 25:All good here!!!

Review 26:This is the real deal. Wonderful area for hiking, and a short drive to the sea. The roomy cottage was found in impeccable condition and had all the necessities and then some. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and the onsite pub/restaurant was great

Review 27:Deluxe double room was excellent and the largest of all the rooms, bed was huge and comfortable Breakfast and dinner well presented good food and a good choice. Staff couldn't do enough to make the stay memorable.

Review 28:The wifi only just reached upstairs, with a poor signal..and then only after having brought your device downstairs to the restaurant to connect. This is probably because the building is old with great big thick walls...and was really the only minor niggle of a wonderful stay

Review 29:The Royal Oak is designed to help you relax in comfort and style, room 5 is lovely and spacious with a really comfortable bed and little extras like in room DVD's, bars of chocolate and luxury bathroom goodies. The food was excellent served by lovely friendly staff who went out of their way to make your stay memorable.

Review 30:The only bad thing was that the Wifi did not work in the rooms, but it just gave us more time to enjoy the surroundings!

Review 31:Loved the location, the staff were excellent, attentive, friendly and helpful. Parking was well served. We ate in the restaurant and it was truly delicious! Room was a good size, clean and well maintained.

Review 32:The choice of two fixed sittings for dinner. Being woken by a noisy kitchen extractor fan. Food generally excellent but let down by the quality of the meat.

Review 33:Everything provided for.

Review 34:Wardrobe space very limited and only one chair in the room - not quite the upmarket room we were allocated. But these are minor points when balanced against the overall enjoyment of our stay.

Review 35:The staff were warm and welcoming. The food was very good. On.y10 minutes from the Festioval Theatre and the City.

Review 36:Perfect in almost all respects. The mattress was a bit soft for our liking but otherwise the bedroom was first rate. We also had a very good pre-theatre dinner.

Review 37:The only thing I can think of is the hight of the fixed shower head in our bathroom. I had to duck down a bit to be able to stand under it. (I'm 5ft10)

Review 38:We arrived really late (11pm) and staff waited for us to allow us to check in. Great location close to Goodwood aerodrome which reresulted in us seeing several old timer aircrafts come past. We didn't get to try the restaurant but if the food is anything like our full English breakfast, I would advise anyone to try it.

Review 39:Only thing may be that we could hear the television of the room next door.

Review 40:The warm welcome, the idyllic location, the genuine hospitality - a far more personal experience. Excellent atmosphere in the restaurant at night and a really relaxing weekend.

Review 41:Service charge being added to evening dinner without being told until the bill arrived. Difficulty with bedroom door keys - we were not the only ones.

Review 42:Staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Great choices for breakfast.

Review 43:On second night we were given a table in the restaurant which was very sqeezed Chairs below height of adjacent tables which felt uncomfortable and claustrophobic Mentioned to staff at the time but no action

Review 44:Food in restaurant and wine menu excellent Room very comfortable and excellent bsthroom

Review 45:Restaurant was lovely but it was a little pricey and charged a compulsory service charge (there were only 2 of us)

Review 46:Beautiful little cottage to relax in during the day and night. Good value for money through booking.com.

Review 47:We didn't know that access to the room was via an outside metal staircase - although lit, felt a bit dodgy in the dark. The bath was on a wooden plinth which felt slippery getting out after shower or bath and there was no handrail on the wall.

Review 48:Very friendly and helpful staff; comfortable, well-equipped and tastefully furnished room; nice spacious bathroom;delicious food.

Review 49:It would be advantageous to know in advance that the site is on a slope , both entrance access routes on an icy night were hazardous. The outdoor stairs to bedrooms was particularily alarming! It would also have been helpful to know about very steep stairs, albeit with good hand rails each side , and downstairs loo in the cottage. Overbath shower here not possible for me to use.

Review 50:As itemised above well equipped rooms in the main house. The cottage we used was extremely well equipped and comfortable.

Review 51:Nothing, everything was perfect that weekend...

Review 52:All the staff were amazing..Food and wine over dinner along with our crazy guests were amazing. Bartender even went out of her way to give us a lift up the street so I didn't have to walk in my heels because no cabs were available at that time. Next visit we will definitely be staying here again.

Review 53:We needed a local base for Goodwood House and the Royal oak served our needs extremely well. Staff were excellent, we didn't use the restaurant for dinner but the breakfast was very good

Review 54:Nothing not to like !

Review 55:The Bed was really comfortable, the shower was really powerful, the towels lovely and thick. Really nice toiletries, in fact everything was great quality. Was great having a fridge in the room, and lovely complimentary biscuits. The restaurant food was delicious, I had the venison, which i would highly recommend.

Review 56:Not ideal for a traveller with international size luggage. Car park is across the road and room has outside stairs for access.

Review 57:Food, friendly staff, dining room, breakfast

Review 58:Wifi was not strong enough in the room. Spiders in the corridor.

Review 59:Great food - Good dinner menu with a vegetarian options and wine selection. Many breakfast options ranging from Full English to fresh fruits. Friendly staff. Comfortable room with great bed and very clean.

Review 60:We didn't find any faults

Review 61:Food superb Staff efficient & friendly Location lovely - South Downs Chichester Cathedral very welcoming The Witterings - lovely beach

Review 62:Standard double rooms with ensuite very small. Distinct lack of storage space and worktop space in bathrooms. Had to change rooms as 1st room was extremely airless...plus it had a plumbing problem. Restaurant surprisingly over priced. Breakfast very amateurish.

Review 63:Position & atmosphere

Review 64:Unfortunately our room was disappointing, small and cramped, no drawer space and inadequate hanging. There was constant noise from kitchen extractor fans situated a few feet from window. No ventilation in bathroom. We would recommend this as a place to stay but with a different room. Some of our comments reflect our disappointment with the room.

Review 65:Good food and excellent service. The position of the inn is very good for exploring surrounding area. Also very good out door eating spaces at the inn. The bed was very comfortable with good quality sheets. The bath towels etc. were good quality.

Review 66:Thinking too hard about this so if I could think of anything it would be very minor....

Review 67:The location, the welcome, the room, the food ... All the boxes were ticked!

Review 68:Very comfortable room, beautiful surroundings. Welcoming attentive staff. The food was fantastic. We had dinner there on two nights and breakfast each morning. Just really great food.

Review 69:The room was not as big as we thought when looking at the photos and the walls were paper thin. Myself and my husband both had a very bad night's sleep because of someone snoring in the next room. My husband got some sleep I hardly got any!

Review 70:The staff were all very helpful and friendly and the food was excellent.

Review 71:Nobody told us our room was directly above main bar, even though I asked if room was suitable for family with young baby. Staff would sit directly below our window smoking and talking after their shift. After the first night, I asked the Manager if it was possible for the bar staff, to sit away from our windows. They didn't and on the third night, at 1am (the pub closed at 11pm), I leant out the window and asked them if they could possibly be a little quieter or sit away from our window (there were plenty of other tables away from our room). But they continued to sit there, talking and smoking and commenting on what I'd asked. Really did ruin an otherwise lovely getaway. Fine if you're a deep sleeper and don't mind smoke filling your bedroom.

Review 72:Food was first class Room was lovely and spacious

Review 73:Fantastically comfortable room with superb bathroom and romantic view. Delicious food and wine and all served with a smile in a buzzing atmosphere. Perfect.

Review 74:Friendly staff. Very comfortable. Great food.

Review 75:Bed too soft; breakfast fried eggs overcooked

Review 76:Friendly staff; good decor; excellent evening meal

Review 77:Northing at all

Review 78:The inn was just excellent ,really enjoyed my stay .

Review 86:The restaurant esp.the scotch eggs with cod . Excellent bar and wine list A hands on owner

Review 87:Good food. Pleasant staff.

Review 88:Bar prices too expensive for a country pub (even a 5 star one)

Review 89:The food Room and shower

Review 90:I had to leave earlier than i wanted

Review 91:Room rather cramped although well appointed. Unchanging menu over three days.

Review 92:Attitude of staff
