Reviews for Kingfisher Barn Holiday Cottages
Review 1:The breakfast staff was not there on Thursday morning so I only had what I could help myself to and no cup of tea which was disappointing after the excellent service I'd had earlier in the week.
Review 2:The pool was great lovely and warm
Review 3:I was very disappointed that having given an ETA, I still had to wait in the dark and the rain for the receptionist to arrive. It was about 10 mins and very upsetting. Also I found the reception very hard to find in the dark. I was taken to my room and was very impressed but was not told where breakfast would be and went back to reception the next morning, only to stand around again and as I walked back to my room I noticed the dining area.. The check out was super and the person very friendly and informative.
Review 4:the location, the facilities etc were marvellous and I am so pleased to have found it on internet. The room was wonderful and so comfortable
Review 5:Unable to access pool with code given from Reception Draught + from main door in room Smell + of cooking in breakfast room Paper thin walls between rooms Room not cleaned on daily basis as advertised
Review 6:Freedom and privacy
Review 7:Nothing really only the bed was very low down but comfy and when windy the door bangs also walls thin could hear next door talking.
Review 8:Everything,the pool was lovely, nice room very clean.Lovely rural location, breakfast was good with choices to suit all.We had a lovely weekend.
Review 9:The driveway is very potholed which makes walking the drive in the dark to go into town a bit awkward.
Review 10:Close to Abingdon town centre. Good facilities within the room. Warm and cosy. Lovely breakfast.
Review 11:Full English breakfast was good - but not the best I've had.
Review 12:Friendly staff. My room was behind the main building, more like a small cottage than a hotel room. As a hotel room it was a reasonable size.
Review 13:Breakfast was ok lots of choice only disappoint poached eggs over cooked and sausages not great.
Review 14:Was close to my party destination clean and comfortable. Tea and coffee with biscuits and TV.
Review 15:Nasty drive with large potholes, damage to car, car park surface appalling, pot holes insufficient lighting. Room converted cow shed, if you had it in your garden it would be a dodgy summer sleep for the children. No room, tiny TV. small table. Hovel. Breakfast in a shed, cook with no teeth and dirty black apron. Bacon burnt. 2nights booked only stayed one. Screaming get me out of here, was told it was listed for cows maybe humans? And the door curtain would not pull to keep out the wind through the door and privacy.
Review 16:nothing
Review 17:Not clear at check in that time given for breakfast was expected time every day. was about 1 hour later on 3rd day and not served warm breakfast was offered cereal. No indoor common area
Review 18:Staff was nice Dogs allowed
Review 19:Lane to cottages is unlit and full of horrid potholes. Had to use a taxi in the evening as no torch to hand. Both taxi drivers complained of the state of the approach road. Breakfast could be a lot better if you used some decent sausages instead of the basic ones.
Review 20:Location to town..staff friendly
Review 21:Breakfast after 7:30 and 8:00 the weekend. Far from the main street.
Review 22:Very nice cottage, staff very kind, english and continental breakfast, kettle, microwave and frigo in the room.
Review 23:the twin beds pushed together in lieu of a double they were slightly different heights and made sleeping a little uncomfortable for us.
Review 24:Beautifully sited property. Wonderful to have the dog with us. Unlike other properties they gave us a bowl and blanket for the dog too. So he also felt welcome and worth the small additional fare. We had a lovely stay.
Review 25:Accommodation was ok but just needed minor things like one of the bulbs had gone in the bathroom, there were cobwebs on the ceiling, the laminated signs in the bathroom had fallen off the wall and the one by the door had seen better days. Minor details.
Review 26:The member of staff on reception couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. Cooked breakfast was delicious.
Review 27:Rooms were not soundproofed and you could hear next door. Bed was not comfortable Breakfast room had overpowering smell of frying food.
Review 28:Friendly welcome Clean rooom and bathroom and good facilities. Adequate breakfast Lovely swimming pool
Review 29:No bad experiences just aware of people next door which we are not used to. Talking outside while we were in bed.
Review 30:The breakfast cabin. Quite unique. Ronnie was lovely and fun. Location nice and lovely courtyard.
Review 31:The room far too small. One could not open bathroom door if the wardrobe was being used. Not enough storage space had to leave suitcases in bathroom. Walls paper thin. Could here every cough from the adjoining rooms. Badly in need of re- furb. Paintwork peeling outside, carpet grubby inside. Access road unlit & badly maintained.
Review 32:The close proximity to the Town.
Review 33:Toilet hadn't been flushed properly/cleaned. Rooms could do with freshening up, new doors and fittings.
Review 34:Staff, breakfast, location to town centre.
Review 35:Bed in first room jangled whenever one moved. No sleep. Moved to another room with very comfortable zipped together beds but linen was dirty.
Review 36:Lovely spot with pure air while close to Abingdon which is a very pleasant little town
Review 37:Got there and found 6 spiders in the room asked for heating to be turned on got home at 1 am to a freezing cold room slept with my coat on and so did my dad in his room , we were that cold we left at 7 next morning without breakfast
Review 38:Not far from town
Review 39:Nothing really (Have booked to go back again next week)
Review 40:I liked everything Very pleasant rural location but 'no distance' to Abingdon. Friendly staff. Good room and bathroom Good breakfast
Review 41:- Room smelt a bit mouldy at first - The room was fairly basic for the price (Premier Inn is more spacious and more attractive) so did not really fit with the outer appearance and location - Cold water came out hot a few times - Room not very sound-proof from others
Review 42:- Picturesque secluded location in countryside - Nice looking buildings - Barn style layout of rooms - Substantial breakfast - Friendly staff - Price inline with other hotels nearby
Review 43:bit of a holey road was quite worried about walking there after going into town as its very dark
Review 44:Lovely friendly staff, quiet location clean, lovely cooked breakfast
Review 45:spacious, lovely farm surroundings, full English breakfast, great for self-catering, flexibility: I was late and the reception stayed open for midnight check-in (by arrangement)
Review 46:Didn't really cater for vegetarians at breakfast. I would imagine that it would be too busy during the high season as there are quite a number of different types of accommodation.
Review 47:Good size room, well equipped and a very good bathroom. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Although not central it is reasonably well located.
Review 48:When I asked for a gluten free meal I was presented with sausages and hash browns on the plate and the gluten free bread was just about to be put in a toaster used for normal bread. Unfortunately I had to explain to the staff that I could not eat anything that might contain gluten and had to be very careful of cross-contamination too. The staff didn't seem very knowledgeable with this, but after I'd explained were very helpful and obliging. The road to the complex was full of pot holes and was very bad, not presenting a good impression on arrival.
Review 49:The location was good and the staff were very pleasant
Review 50:Furniture (bed and chairs) in the B&B rooms is very low to ground. Difficult to get out of if you're on the mature side.
Review 51:Very friendly and helpful staff. Went the extra mile.
Review 52:Only a minor point: room exterior looking a little tired, would certainly benefit from a lick of paint here and there.
Review 53:Great location, super swimming pool and hearty breakfast. Staff were extremely helpful.
Review 54:room basic. Noise from sites boiler room next to our room (No:5) could be heard all through the night, had to unplug fridge in room during night which was rattling and more irritating then the boiler room. Staff continually expressing their personal issues and complaints whilst around customers. Spoilt breakfast and could easily cause offence.
Review 55:Quiet countryside location off farm lane on edge of Abingdon
Review 56:Expected accommodation with our own cooking facilities, not a microwave on the wall that you hit your head on when you get out of bed. The room has little space to move when 2 cases are put in their and 2 people. The bed is VERY low to the ground. The bathroom had more space with a very high toilet. The rooms are noisy you can hear everything from the room next door.
Review 57:The location was quite good and the breakfast was quite nice.
Review 58:The accommodation was clean and comfortable, the room had free wifi and tea making facilities which were appreciated. The breakfast was fantastic, service with a smile every day!
Review 59:Cleanliness could be improved a bit and the window was left open before my check-in so by the time I was shown into my room there were loads of bugs flying around inside but all in all, I loved my stay- very relaxing.
Review 60:Beautiful location, friendly staff, great breakfasts, great room size, excellent self catering facilities, ample parking and I loved having use of the pool. Peaceful location too- I would return
Review 61:The wifi service was aweful even though our room was very close to 2 of the routers.
Review 62:Staff were friendly and our room was OK. The bed was very comfortable.
Review 63:Staff were particularly unhelpful as we arrived after 11 despite us calling the day before to inform them of this. The walls were very thin and got woken at 5.30 by one set of neighbors which was particularly irritating. There was also no information in the room regarding breakfast and we had to therefore call reception to check times.
Review 64:Location
Review 65:Bed on the side of uncomfortable, too springy! Could do with some upkeep on one of the entrance room doors ( we had two rooms, the other was fine)
Review 66:The location, the staff, especially the person who made our breakfast.
Review 67:The twin beds seem small but that could be me being used to Doubles, Only had a microwave and the plates were a bit dirty.
Review 68:Friendly staff, good location - short walk to town, Pool, clean room, decent breakfast chioces
Review 69:The unlit lane to walk down . Had to get a taxi just for that part .
Review 70:The country feel for a night away for girlie time. The breakfast hut was cute and staff lovely .
Review 71:Beds were tired and lumpy.room was dirty mold on walls next to bed.no heating yet pouring down outside.booked it for swim pool but when I arrived I was told couldn't use it as it was fully booked ? One cup and saucer in room..so had to share...having had an uncomfortable nights rest to wake up to no heat and a rainy day...i looked forward to breakfast which was ordered from a pre order tick list choice..i was told can only have what i ticked....so I only had egg on toast and coffee...daughter chose continental breakfast and received a croissant sliced cheese yoghurt and alpen bar all stuffed on a tiny table....I took pictures of the damp and stained walls and filthy skirting...on a positive it is in close walking distance to the town where I went and bought breakfast. I bought it thinking it was good value for money being a single mother...but 89.00 was a waste of precious money...rarely am I disappointed..I had travelled four hours so to contend with all the above was a bit of a let down
Review 72:Nice looking complex..and lady dealing was pleasant..
Review 73:Flying ants in the room landed on the bed at night. Noisy during the evening and the night with the sound of machinery (sounded like a washing machine) because the room was next to the staff area. Some light bulbs didn't work and weren't changed when I reported them.
Review 74:The location is excellent and the accommodation was fine for what I needed. I had stayed previously and the room I was given this time was not as comfortable as the one I had then.
Review 75:The accommodation was pretty basic. The breakfast was poor. The lady cooking it worked very hard but the ingredients she was given were poor quality.
Review 76:Location and dog friendly
Review 77:The breakfast was poor. very cramped and the table and chairs were more akin to camping. The room was more like a hut.The food was basic, there wasn't much choice and the food was not very well cooked or presented. The woman on cooking duty was brusque and unhelpful. We got out as soon as possible and were hungry!
Review 78:The location was ok but the walk down the approach road was a little scary at night. The room was comfortable and well appointed and the bed was fine. No problems with the accommodation or the reception staff. Breakfast is the bg let down.
Review 79:Very rough driveway giving access to the farm. Wifi was hit and miss, became annoying when trying to sort out parking at Oxford and booking a tour.
Review 80:Good to be able to book the pool just for us. Good access to Oxford. Good nearby restaurants and pubs.
Review 81:Amazed to read that this was 4 star accommodation, then to see the peeling paint on the outside of the door and windows of our cottage and to dicover that the windows were not even double-glazed.
Review 82:Unfortunately the breakfast at 7 am was too late for me to enjoy during the work week. Also, my visit coincided with flying ant day, which swarmed inside the room.
Review 83:The location is superb, surrounded by fields, near the Thames and yet only 10 minutes walk from Abingdon town centre.
Review 84:I think I had the least attractive room ?.penalty of the single traveller. Uncomfortable bed with awful pillows.
Review 85:Beautiful pool Good soft/ large towels
Review 86:Nothing
Review 87:Loved the location. Great that the pool could be booked for private use by the hour. Great facilities for disabilities. The pool had a hoist. Definitely will be going back. Abingdon is a charming town.
Review 88:The croissants were very disappointing and on 2 out of 3 mornings cold and flabby so just no worth eating. 2 out of 3 mornings the fruit too was very disappointing. Stale apples and mandarins. Staff lovely on 2 mornings, but a little grumpy on my first morning.
Review 89:There was a wide choice of cereals and cooked breakfast options. Decaffeinated coffee in a caffeine very welcome
Review 90:It was a bit hot in the room (summer visit) - I think because it was a single storey building so the sun on the roof heated up the room. The road leading to the premises has some bad potholes.
Review 91:Easy parking, friendly staff, comfortable well equipped room, easy to find, an easy walk to the town centre but far enough out to be quiet.
Review 92:Having to specify what you want for breakfast when you first arrive wasdifferent. Not that great a breakfast anyway. Went to pay with cash oncheckout to avoid the cc fee and they had already credited my creditcard on booking. Every other booking made on booking.com was completedeither on arrival or at checkout. Was not pleased with this and was toldit was a booking.com problem. Expensive compared to other places stayedat over the past 2 months of travelling but it was near Oxford.
Review 93:Breakfast staff lovely and first checkin lady was good. Large room withgood facilities.
Review 94:We stayed here as a B & B whilst travelling down the Thames in our Steamboat...easy walk from Abingdon bridge...need a torch if you arrive in the dark. The room, No. 4, exterior was in need of a coat of paint. Bed was comfortable and big but the duvet was too small for the bed.
Review 95:The location and a superb breakfast cooked to order in the breakfast room where you could watch the lovely lady at work on your meal. Served piping hot without sitting under a hot lamp which often happens in hotels.
Review 96:A bit out of town with nothing to do once you are there. Furniture dated. Had no proper desk and chair to work at. I thought £70 a night for this room was too much. It is more a £55/night room. I stayed in room 4. The breakfast very budget and basic.
Review 97:Lovely staff.
Review 98:For the cost it wasn't a great value. It was misrepresented in the description. Needed outside paint, Internet was at most, spotty and very weak.
Review 99:The surroundings were lovely. The staff was very friendly.
Review 100:This B&B was billed as 4 star but the beds were so soft and uncomfortable and felt like you would roll out of one side. Décor could do with updating and everything just seemed a little tired. Sadly the cook seemed under pressure at breakfast so missed things off the plate etc, and only grunted when we entered the breakfast hut - the problem appeared to be that she didn't have enough equipment or staff to deal with the demand
Review 101:Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Review 102:Being disturbed each time attached accomodation used bathroom or showers ...quieter ventilation
Review 103:As a smoker so nice to be able to step out into courtyard ... no lifts or stairs or standing around in streets. Ideal for singles, couples or families great secret hideaway
Review 104:There is nothing I can complain about
Review 105:This was such a relaxing place to stay, room, staff and food excellent, location was brilliant, will be staying again.
Review 106:The room we had, had the most uncomfortable and noisy bed I had every slept in!!!
Review 107:good location, great facilities for B&B. Good parking. Spacious room and bathroom
Review 108:Bed very uncomfortable and made a noise every time we moved. Toilet really not good (back flush) Strange breakfast situation in that we had to order the night before - not easy if going out for a meal the night before!
Review 109:Rural location was great but only if you have a torch when walking home in the dark!
Review 110:A bit out of town. Reception closed after 4 on Saturday (had to ring telephone number for staff to return by car).
Review 111:Quiet. Good walking area. Swimming pool - though no changing facilities for men and has to be booked.
Review 112:Booked as a family room but disappointed with size which was a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom with a souvenir left in the wc
Review 113:Swimming Pool and Breakfast
Review 114:No bad experience just lovely.
Review 115:Beautiful place with lovely gardens and countryside. The room had good facilities, such as tea, coffee, biscuits and microwave and fridge. The staff were cheerful and friendly
Review 116:Noise from adjoining rooms can be heard easily.
Review 117:Friendly welcome, comfortable room, quiet location with close proximity to town. Very tasty breakfast.
Review 118:Pretty, comfortable ensuite room with fridge and delightful garden outside your room.Short walk to town or lovely countryside stroll. Welcome bowl and blanket for the dog too!
Review 119:Not impressed with breakfast. Was a bit of a cheap* letdown to an otherwise perfect stay. *tomato was not nice *beans were off *bacon gristly *sausages on par with value brands.
Review 120:Location comfort friendly staff
Review 121:Lane down to the Holiday cottage very dark but council wont allow lighting.
Review 122:Everything, room clean, cosy, bathroom large plenty of toiletries. Very generous with Tea Coffee biscuits. Breakfast was cooked well plenty of choice. Location great for exploring Oxford.
Review 123:The sharp unfriendly chef at Breakfast on Sunday morning - we couldn't get out quick enough. She set out differently to the Saturday chef and we were meant to know this! The large king sized bed was two singles pushed together and hence the quilt was too small to cover the sides. The TV was tiny so had to wear my long distance glasses to view!
Review 124:Friendly and helpful receptionist on arrival and the lovely chef at Breakfast on the Saturday morning. The room had everything you would need for a short break, although basic.
Review 125:Room was reasonable size but overcrowded with unnecessary microwave and fridge - the latter cutting in and out all night. TV was too small to be useful - BBC signal disappeared after approx 30 seconds. Wifi signal constantly interrupted so no connection achieved. Bed was a little soft for my preference. Toilet roll holder broken, and large chip in bath ceramic. Had to specify breakfast order whilst checking in! But the real disappointment was the continental breakfast, possibly the worst I've ever had, and a reason never to return.
Review 126:Pleasant setting on edge of town. Receptionist was welcoming but new, so not knowledgeable. Room and en-suite were clean. Coffee and hot chocolate in room but no tea or tea bags! Shower strength acceptable - shampoo and shower gel provided.
Review 127:No reception after 4.00pm had to phone ahead to obtain keys. Breakfast ends early - 9.00am for a lazy w/end. Staff v kindly did us a 9.30am breakfast :) accommodation down a single track country road not suitable for walking in bad weather. Need to book swimming pool.
Review 128:Huge comfortable double bed. Microwave, fridge and kettle provided plus spacious en suite. Friendly and helpful staff - made to feel welcome. Staff very accommodating gave us an extended departure time.
Review 129:It was not clean. The bedsheets did not feel clean and sewage came out in the toilets in the morning. Breakfast was below average. It was cooked in the small eating area/cabin so you ended up smelling a bit like an English breakfast.
Review 130:Location and setting. Has a lot of potential but needs a lot of tlc.
Review 131:Remote location .too far to walk to a pub in inclement weather.
Review 132:Facilities good.and staff helpful.useful to have fridge and microwave.I was leaving too early to have the breakfast but was given continental to keep in the fridge.I would stay again.
Review 133:Quiet - but not many of the other rooms were occupied! Swimming pool was a bonus. Just a shortish walk into the town centre and lovely riverside walks
Review 134:Non slip bath mat needed replacing.
Review 135:pleasant and welcoming manner of receptionist. Location and setting lovely. Very comfortable bed..Clean bathroom. Dog friendly!
Review 136:We were welcomed warmly and given ideas of what to do while there The cottage was lovely quiet bathroom was wonderful The setting is great - a short walk to town and a wooded walk through farmland and the Thames right there A rural setting that brings peace comfort and beauty all together The receptionist was fantastic providing a flashlight for our late eves in town and helping us the morning of our departure with train issues and cab issues. Always smiling and relaxed. She even offered to dry our handwashing - she was wonderful Breakfast was delicious and our cook friendly and very accommodating The entry road is fine - was expecting potholes but saw none - we walked in and out Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay
Review 137:No WiFi in the room Room 1 is next to Boiler House which ran overnight Window did not open Scope for improvement on breakfast. Hotel trying too hard. Should offer a good continental breakfast vs trying to do both cooked and continental and failing.
Review 138:Friendly staff In room facilities Peaceful Location
Review 139:Really difficult to get hold of! I left messages the previous week using the number on Booking.com and no reply. You have to wait for a night porter to arrive if you arrive later in the day. Again I phoned in advance and left a message. Walls in apartments a bit thin and consequently listened to an Asian Skype conversation into the later/early hours lol.
Review 140:Good location and I guess good value for money for the area.
Review 141:The access track had a couple of pot holes and was dark. It was hard to see where I was going when on foot (to and from pub half a mile away).
Review 142:Staff all very friendly and helpful. Room very clean and tidy. In a nice quiet location.
Review 143:Breakfast was a bit uncomfortable, sitting in a tiny room making chitchat with strangers & it is a loooong walk down a dark lane to get to town but I would stay again.
Review 144:Nice place with friendly staff and a swimming pool that can be reserved just for yourself. Its good to stay in a place with a microwave & fridge (although had to turn off fridge due to noise).
