Reviews for Château L'Hospitalet

Review 1:The look of the breakfast room does not match the look of the rest of the hotel (very low-cost feeling). The breakfast is very basic, which would be ok if the price wouldn´t be something like 14 Euros.

Review 2:I had a problem with a really noisy air-conditioning. This was quickly solved by moving me to another room, I even got upgraded for free. The room was very nice and clean. Staff was overall friendly, all of them were able to speak english. The location is perfect, in the middle of the vineyard. I would stay here again.

Review 3:The standard double room was short of power sockets. It was November so the tile floor was chilly underfoot. They appear to like their lamb raw!? Best ask for it to be waved over a grill ...

Review 4:The rolling vineyards & chateau feel. The shuttered room with a lovely view. The bed comfy, the great shower, the tea& coffee. The excellent local wine & food. The Friday jazz evening with the Smokey Joe Combo was fantastic. The value was marvelous as we got a last minute off season price. It was a surprisingly lovely stopover en route to Spain & we have various Chateau Hospitalet grand wines in the boot.

Review 5:Sadly the ambience of the surroundings not matched by the actual welcome. Staff were perfunctory and acted as though they were doing us a favour. Restaurant staff were worse. All their effort went into posturing about the "creativity" of the food rather than actually serving it. As a special treat we decided to go for the tasting menu - "let yourself be tempted by the creativity and inspiration of our chef from produce from to-day's market." This is just dishonest....it was a selection of stuff off the a la carte menu, which took over 4 hours to serve. We waited over an hour between some courses. The reaction to explaining that we were both allergic to oysters was: "the chef will kill me". The guided wine matching was: "What do you want next - red or white?" It could hardly have been more offhand. At the last minute the maitre d' did attempt to rescue things but it was too late. Such a disappointment when it could be superb.

Review 6:Glorious location in the heart of a vineyard between Narbonne and the Mediterranean. Peace, quiet and simply enormous skies. Sympathetic conversion of outbuildings with golden coloured stone creates a welcoming feel.

Review 7:I was very disappointed that the restaurant was not open for dinner and especially as there was no dicount on the room rate. The drive to Narbonne or Narbonne Plage for dinner is a long way.

Review 8:We liked the location.

Review 9:The, raw in places, duck with the jazz evening meal - starter, dessert and wines were REALLY good

Review 10:Not far from Narbonne Plage, yet on it's own. Being surrounded by hundreds of vines. The winery on site. The room and patio where we consumed the welcoming wine and water. The jazz evening The pool area. The 2 helicopters arriving!

Review 11:My room had very poor Wi-Fi an adjacent friends room was however full bars so just unlucky. The restaurant was closed on the night of our stay so we had to drive into town.

Review 12:Very peaceful and lovely staff

Review 13:WIFI on the upper floors does not work, they need another router at the top of the building, this allows guest to enjoy WIFI in the comfort of their room to plan their trips out, this should be standard in all hotel these days, router are very cheap!!!!, one thing I would suggest to the owners is if they really want to make this something I would introduce a sauna and steam room along with pool, we would probably not want to leave...

Review 14:The evening meal and the periodic features of the Chateau.

Review 15:Nothing.

Review 16:Lovely environment. Close to coast, we'd originally planned to drive down for dinner but we were so comfortable in the vineyard that we ate there too.

Review 17:The location of the Superior room we booked was on the top floor, two flights of difficult with the luggage, luckily we are very fit! The staff were not very friendly to us and have us no information about the wine tasting option at dinner. The access to the Chateau is difficult being on a bend On a very busy road. The staff in the Restaurant were not friendly. Would not stay there again!

Review 18:The scenery around the Chateau was wonderful. Enjoyed a hike around the vineyards. Purchased wine Euro 200 woth of wine but were not offered wine tasting like the other customers. We are a couple who have travelled around the word, well educated, well dressed and were made to feel second rate!

Review 19:we tried the set menu for €29 in the restaurant which was slightly dissapointing. The breakfast wasn't great value, if we were to stay again we wouldn't include breakfast.

Review 20:The hotel was lovely, and the tour of the vineyard was spectacular. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and most were able to communicate in English which we hadn't found anywhere else in the region.

Review 21:Although all rooms are non smoking rooms, we found that the previousoccupants had smoked in the room. As the hotel was full, the only roomthey could offer was a room on the ground floor which is kept for anyonewho requires wheelchair access or they were happy to move us to anotherroom the next day. Swimming pool is very small, good for young children.

Review 22:The reception staff are very helpful and works hard to do everythingthey possible can to make you happy. We had dinner at the hotel onFriday night which was excellent and the jazz was also very good, verynice evening all round. Due to last minute change of plans, tried tohave dinner the following day at the hotel but the restaurant was full. The hotel manager, agop Alexandre was extremely helpful, booked us atable in a very nice restaurant, drove us there and collected us againat the end of the meal so that we could have a drink. We appreciatedthis very much as he could see that we were not very happy about notbeing able to eat in the restaurant. The view and setting of the Chateauis very nice.

Review 23:Beautiful setting...between Narbonne town and the beaches..so you must drive to get out and about...the location is lovely, food very good, great wine...we would go back again!

Review 24:Relaxed first class property with excellent facilities and good food with the added bonus of 'wine' 'on site'. The Friday night 'Jazz Dinner with Food' and wines to match each course was a bonus.

Review 25:Our room was at the rear of the hotel by the toilet, externally it desperately needed painting, and internally it was drab because it had no windows, the only natural light came through the glass section of the door. The pool area needed maintenance and the water feature was slimy and unpleasant.

Review 26:The staff were helpful and the breakfasts were very good. The lady who organised the breakfast area was really pleasant.

Review 27:The menu promised much but did not deliver, bill finally reduced by 50%. Following meeting with Hotel Director promises of better prepared food the second night failed to materialise...only fish on set menu no choice. Jazz band super but spoiled by visiting Car Club karaoke. Room on ground floor, impossible to sleep, no window, air conditioning too noisy to leave on. Wifi not working. Great location, sadly won't go back.

Review 28:The surrounding area is very beautiful

Review 29:Room infested with ants. No near facilities for eating out so you almost have to eat in the hotel restaurant. The food is excellent but not what you want every day and it's not cheap. If you are are there on a Friday there is no option but to have a set dinner with live music. This dinner was poor and very expensive. Service at breakfast time is almost non-existent. The coffee is disgusting. The gardens are scruffy and wind blown.

Review 30:It's a nice location and the wine cave is very interesting.

Review 31:The comfort rooms are on the small side and bathroom small. Price should reflect this . Breakfast was very good but Evening meal was a disapointment . We had rubber Duck. A good Chef would transform the whole experience at this lovely Hotel

Review 32:Very peacefull for a good nights sleep. Wine tasting was excellent . Great choice of wines to taste or buy. Accomodation nice and modern and clean . The card system for dispensing wine in the restuarant was great. The Property is lovely.

Review 33:Because of the separation of the buildings, it would have been nice if the Hotel had a few umberellas for guests use. Also slightly confusing as to the location, it being outside Narbonne but not actually at Narbonne Plage

Review 34:A very varied and interesting selection for buffet breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff

Review 35:Are you kidding ?

Review 36:It's a perfect place. An old hospital converted in a first class dwelling, with a huge cellar, a great restaurant, swimming pool, arts and crafts store, visit to the vineyards, even a Jazz festival in summer. Of course we could not enjoy all this, but we took notes and will try and get back.

Review 37:Initially given the mezzanine bedroom, not 1 wardrobe or drawer to be found and very poky, not good for a 6 night stay, changed to a better room with no fuss. Very expensive breakfast, not value for money. Very mean with toiletries and no full size mirror in room & no Wifi if you have an apple.

Review 38:Beautiful location, staff very helpful & friendly, spacious room in a lovely building and very nice gardens. Good restaurant.

Review 39:It was a bit far from the beach

Review 40:Great bed - good room very peaceful the sleep was divine! Great staff - a surprise was the jazz evening and set menu 3 courses including beautiful wine - 49euro - stunning! Also a gift of a bottle of wine on checkout - nice touch.

Review 41:Hotel restaurants inexplicably closed and nothing available for lunch or dinner. 10 km outside city meant a 60 euro return cab ride for dinner. While the hotel did pay this, we had to rent a car for the subsequent day at a cost of 100 euros. We expected a resort atmosphere and planned to enjoy the hotel for 2 days but instead we had to leave each day to forage for food. A terrible noise like a broken fan in room kept us awake, staff said all the ground floor rooms were affected. Over priced, poor value for money, won't recommend.

Review 42:Hard to find as no satellite for SatNav to pick up on.

Review 43:Our room was fabulous. Would never have thought dogs would be allowed. Would definitely use again

Review 44:Wifi was poor.

Review 45:The location was gorgeous, win yard and tasting included. We only stayed one night but it felt like a quiet and relaxing place in a romantic setting.

Review 46:unfortunately we spent only one night at the hotel and on that day the restaurant was closed

Review 47:Nice and calm setting in the middle of the vineyards. Clean, comfortable rooms. Great breakfast. Interesting wine tasting in the wine cellar, excellent wines for reasonable prices.

Review 48:We had to ask to change rooms. The original suite was shabby, dark and miserable. The replacement suite was in the roof and the beams were dangerously low and, especially for disabled people, stairs to the bedroom were difficult and steep. Generally, the lighting was so poor we could not see to read anything, the breakfast was pathetic and parking was remote. All in all, it was a bad experience and we left early.

Review 49:Leaving.

Review 50:There were too few staff in the restaurant, and this was particularly noticeable during the Jazz Friday event. A bit more organisation would help, along with a dedicated Maitre d'hôte. The lack of tea/coffee facilities in the room was poor, especially considering a cup of tea from the bar was €4. WiFi was erratic, and annoying as you had to keep logging in every time you accessed it. Some guests get better treatment than others (shown to their rooms for example - we were not). Not sure why this was, but staff attitudes changed when they discovered we had cycled to the hotel across France from St Malo!

Review 51:Our room was very comfortable with a super bed and a decent bathroom. The food in the restaurant was superb and highly recommended, as is the very clever wine tasting option with dinner - you choose the wine you want to taste, in three price bands, and then crack on with no limits to consumption. The staff were generally friendly, especially those in the winery and the guys who allowed us to store our bikes in their warehouse (I don't think the hotel was used to people arriving by bike). The wine made and sold here was excellent. Breakfast was very good, as it should be for €14, with plenty of choice of cold meat, cheese, pastries and the rest of a normal French petit dejeuner. Overall I would recommend this hotel, and would probably return. But this place could be brilliant (like the food in the restaurant) rather than simply good with a few more staff and some more obvious managers.

Review 52:Didn't stay long enough to appreciate the pool or the restaurant. Next time!

Review 53:Idyllic location, lovely room with wine tasting on the door step, what's not to like.

Review 54:The pool was dirty and the rooms a bit dated. In high season the place was very busy and overall over priced.

Review 55:The hotel is well worth a visit for the location, wines and restaurant. Next time we will go off season.

Review 56:We tried to eat in the restaurant about 9pm just after arriving with 2 very hungry and tired children. Reception said this was fine when we checked in. We were asked to sit inside but it was very warm evening. We asked to sit outside which the waiter was not happy about. He said we would have to wait longer. After 45 mins we still did not have a menu and our son was in tears he was so tired. I complained to reception and they says a waiter was ill. After 90 mins we left the restaurant really upset and starving. What a Shame. The place is stunning but we would not go back because of the service.

Review 57:Amazing location. Stunning views. Cave sensational.

Review 58:The bedroom was small, the bathroom was tiny and there were a lot of winding stone steps up to the room. The pool is smaller than it looks in the photos.

Review 59:the meal in the restaurant was outstanding

Review 60:The rooms were small and didn't look like the pictures on the website. We booked a Collection room but it was very small.

Review 61:The food was extremely good as was the wine. Pretty and quiet location - enjoyed sitting by the pool.

Review 62:I am saddened to say the breakfast was such a disappointment as was the dinner. The standard was so far removed from our previous experiences.

Review 63:Adjacent wine cellar Fantastic location in nature Easy to get to

Review 64:Beautiful setting, close to Narbonne.

Review 65:The restaurant has only got a French menu and no vegetarian option.

Review 66:Value for money

Review 67:Kind and welcoming staff, beautiful location, quiet room, comfortable bed

Review 68:We had to leave so soon. The restaurant was not open for the 2 days we were there. Very sad.

Review 69:Location location location

Review 70:Not enough information from the staff as to the availability of activities within the setting.

Review 71:Beautiful area

Review 72:swimming pool, location & friendly staff

Review 73:Wifi bad connection Week Clanking Doors

Review 74:Resturant, the Wine buffé

Review 75:The good and wine was excellent

Review 76:Wifi isn't good in rooms as I stayed in the bldg at the back. There wasn't any wifi signal.

Review 77:Everything.

Review 78:This is a working vineyard so took the oppurtunity to stock up our wine cellar. Beautiful location. Good restaurant. Comfortable room

Review 79:Beautiful location, friendly helpful staff & great food contributed to a relaxing & enjoyable stay.

Review 80:Beautiful surroundings, lovely, spacious rooms and really nice staff.

Review 81:room a bit small , food expensive at resturant

Review 82:location

Review 83:Poor quality finish and decoration, small room.

Review 84:Nice location

Review 85:misinformation about the vineyard tour which we then missed

Review 86:the ambience the food the wine

Review 87:Bedroom, Wifi Fi,

Review 88:Position, Food, Wine.

Review 89:restaurant poor service and poor quality of food for that price. Location of room too far away, no WiFi and 2 flights upstairs, no lifts.

Review 90:environment

Review 91:The knowledge of the wine and vineyard for such young staff was exceptional

Review 92:Not enough staff in the restaurant

Review 93:Food and wine exquisite

Review 94:No food...breakfast the supplied, if you pay, dinner is a formal sit down. If you don't do these it is a long trip to town and without transportation No food

Review 95:Beautiful location for scenery, but there is nothing nearby.

Review 96:The restaurant was shut on the Sunday evening which was disappointing as we wanted to sample the tasting menu.

Review 97:Superb touring location, lovely working vinery with tasting and purchasing facility. Pleasant rooms set in pleasant grounds.

Review 98:Shower head would not stay in holder. We stopped on a Sunday night - therefore no food as Restaurant closed! No coffee making facilities available.

Review 99:Quiet, comfortable and in a wonderful location with easy access to Motorway. Wine shop worth visiting.

Review 100:The breakfast buffet is a Little bit pure. that the windows of our car was overwritten with lipstick, even though it was parked in the hotel parking lot.

Review 101:The Jazz-menu and the hotel is palced in a very fine plac when you have dogs with you. We like that we can have our dogs with us

Review 102:A 2p in the loo and,1p all over the seat and down on the toilet floor area, attitude of the staff which was unconcerned. No evening meal available not even in the room as there was a doo on. Breakfast very very poor.

Review 103:Table booked well in advance in restaurant but on arrival in Restaurant we were given a seat in a cold area with doors open. Staff did not want to relocate us to another table even though the restaurant appeared empty. We were looking forward to our gourmet dinner at this hotel but had to go out to have dinner. Very disappointing and the staff had a "so what" attitude.

Review 104:The price quality ratio is far below normal, and the hotel has no "authenticity": it is full of shops, and you feel like in an americanized version of a south French hotel: art/wine shops everywhere, jazz evenings, diner at 95 euro pp and on top of that quite a small room to be called a 'suite': it was an average room, with two extra beds in the hall, and that for 270 euros per night.

Review 105:The beach is 5 km away, but shallow waters. Just to be prepared.

Review 106:The 2-level room is spacious and comfortable. The design is modern and pleasing. Lots of vineyards around for walks. The management gives a bottle of wine upon arrival.

Review 107:desserts were a disappointment but the menu was very limited as there was a wedding party on that night too

Review 108:Beautiful location and great opportunity to do more wine tasting. Good restaurant. Comfy bed great bed linen.

Review 109:The food is appalling - the worst dinner I had in France in more than 15visits over 40 years. The breakfast, at 16 eur per person per day, is asteal - for them. The room is seriously overpriced. The problem is,though, that there is nowhere halfway decent to stay nearby. This isprobably why they do not have to lift a finger.

Review 110:Have stayed in two hotels attached to large vineyards - this being one of them and not sure if I will do so again. Vineyards offering hotel facilities need to run the hotel separately to the main business otherwise it always seems as though they are playing at being hoteliers. Had booked the Jazz Evening Dinner at 49 Euro per head but decided to decline when we were told that there was no choice of food - only one starter, main course and dessert. The setting is wonderful surrounded by vineyards and the view of the 'Cave' was very interesting. The Pool and seating area was tiny compared to the size of the property and the beautiful rose garden surrounding the it.

Review 111:Excellent restaurant and wine caves. The wine buffet was superb. fantastic location. Very helpful staff at reception.

Review 112:There is a problem with the sat TV sometimes the channel fails.

Review 113:Very modern rooms with all facilities. toiletries top notch. Breakfast excellent.

Review 114:A little remote, which part of beauty, but will need a car

Review 120:A great location in the middle of a vineyard with great rooms.

Review 121:Room was very basic and enclosed

Review 122:Fabian was excellent and looked after us very well. He also managed the staff extremely well.

Review 123:room was very hot, bedding supplied was very warm duvets , could not get air conditioning to work
