Reviews for Hunston Mill Self Catering Cottages

Review 1:Bit of a nightmare if you want to set out walking straight from the cottage. You have to drive to a start point. No big deal though.

Review 2:Quite and friendly

Review 3:Central heating on very high on arrival; children's bedroom therefore very hot for sleeping. General appearance in living space and bathroom dated but practical.

Review 4:Good bed linen. Lots of towels. Kitchen equipment sparkling clean. Gave us an important edge over a hotel room for a 3 night stay.

Review 5:The toilet was blocked and kept blocking everytime you used it and the dogs barking waking us up at 7:00 on Sunday morning.didnt see host so cant comment on that.

Review 6:The shop on site.that sold all the little things you may need.

Review 7:Definitely no bad experiences; one slight disadvantage is that there are no footpaths leading directly from the Mill holiday site, the road is busy, so a car is essential.

Review 8:The Milltop apartment was ideal - comfortable, well-equipped, good views and warm. We and our labradoodle were made very welcome - not least because the owners have four of their own! As well as play areas for children on-site, Hunston Mill is a great base to explore the Selsey peninsula and Chichester, with some great walks, local wildlife, pub lunches, etc. Also right next to the Chichester golf club.

Review 9:A fantastic little cottage set on the first floor in an old windmill! Booked for work to visit a local client and couldn't believe I got a whole cottage in such a unique property for such a great rate.

Review 10:the fact that a good supportive mattress was provided. Also hor water from an aga and central heating. Loads of clean crocs, cutlery, spotless glasses etc. Home from home! Warm and cosy, good facilities, lovely comfortable bed and to cap it all a stable door!

Review 11:Although I was there for only one night it was so nice to be in a place so clean and cosy with excellent cooking facilities and areal nice greeting with trustworthy facilities.Would definitely stay there again. Many thanks

Review 12:Looking a bit tired, in need of updating, things such as: Curtains Furniture General decor Toilet and basin Living area carpet Lots of small niggles that could easily be fixed: Grubby feel to bathroom (dirt around shower etc) Bathroom switch cord missing Draft around front door Dirty carpets Curtain rails kept falling off Shower tray not draining quickly enough (risk of a flood below!) Toilet seat wouldn't stay up! Holey bath mat! Mouldy high chair provided Dubious electrics (heater plugged into 4 way, plugged into 4 way! lamps connected by plug-block and taped over etc) Free wifi not quite reaching all locations (could be fixed with mini access points in each cottage)

Review 13:Location Quirky setting (Mill Top) Nice and warm! Laundry facilities Super warm duvet Power shower Nice gardens

Review 14:Didn't meet any staff as the keys were just left in the door for us to let ourselves in/check-out. Would consider it a boutique venue if they just made the kitchen/lounge furniture more contemporary and new.

Review 15:Lovely venue and great location for walking. We needed to get to Bognor so it was less convenient for that but at least there was good parking therefore.

Review 16:Nearest grocery store closes around 1800. Really need to drive into Chichester to find a supermarket (15 mins), On the other hand Chichester is a really nice place with lots of good shops and places to eat/drink.

Review 17:Roomy chalet with good kitchen facilities. Central heating. Own garden area, everything as per the description plus a little shop on site to get basic supplies as needed. Library of DVD's if you want them. Local pub serves good beer and excellent food.

Review 18:everything what I like can be found in responses to questions. Besides, really close to the sea and a really cool and quiet environment. Very nice owner. I personally have no objection partner to this place and would highly recommend it to all

Review 19:Busy main road. Too far out of village to walk to pub, also road too busy to walk.

Review 20:Nobody bothered you, but assistance was available if you required it. Beautifully maintained gardens and accommodation.

Review 21:We had only good experiences.

Review 22:The cottages are cosy and welcoming. The location means you can travel around to see a lot. The owners are friendly and helpful.

Review 23:A little distant to any eating out options if you don't want to drive. Some cushions for the garden chairs would have welcome, but it was Autumn.

Review 24:Peace, calm, outlook, excellent accommodation & facitilities, friendliness of the hosts. A very good base for visiting the many interesting local towns and historic places.

Review 25:On a busy road 50 mph speed limit so there was a lot of traffic noise

Review 26:Very pretty surroundings well kept. Very clean and well equipped. Honestly shop is a good idea.

Review 27:Nothing to dislike!

Review 28:Thelma was very welcoming and accommodating with our request. The location is excellent. Midway between Chichester and Selsey. Lovely comfortable beds! Particularly liked the Store and old fashioned honesty policy system! Hoping to stay again.

Review 29:No footpaths directly from the property and a busy main road with no footpath so have to put the dog in the car to go for a walk, but loads of great places nearby to walk. Laundry collection at 7am on a Sunday morning was very noisy and should be changed to a less disturbing time.

Review 30:Good location, great facilities on site e.g. small shop for essentials, dog and child excercise area

Review 31:The furniture was a bit 1980's Laura Ashley but clean and sweet, just a bit cutesy, not modern.

Review 32:Very sweet self catering holidays cottages. Ran by a lovely lady. Clean and characterful.

Review 33:Oven shelves didn't fit well in Coach House Cottage and shower difficult to adjust.

Review 34:Excellent location, with nice touches such as separate gardens for each cottage and a play area. Excellent for groups of friends or larger family gatherings with children of different ages, as all the cottages are close each other.

Review 35:Very pleasant welcome from the owner. Great little cottage, very quiet. Clean and good furnishing. A lovely seated area in personal garden space. Excellent service.

Review 36:near to very busy main road. Not easy to walk from the property for a stroll.

Review 37:facilities, garden and shop lovely. Friendly hosts. countryside views.

Review 38:I don't feel that there is anything negative to say about these cottages.

Review 39:Very welcoming, beautiful surroundings, full of character and a very relaxing place to stay.

Review 40:An absolutely beautiful setting in an excellent location. The owners are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble. for a tranquil and relaxing break nothing could be better.

Review 41:Thelma welcomed us with a bottle of wine and either her or her husband were always available when needed. They set up another bed when our daughter arrived unexpectedly without any problems. The cottage was well equipped, the courtyard was lovely with lots of plants and flowers, and the honesty shop had most things we needed. All in all a very pleasant few days.

Review 42:No fire extinguisher, kitchen poorly equipped (no sieve, grater etc., pans very old and battered, frying pan handle so loose it was dangerous). Soft furnishings badly need cleaning. Washing machine missing detergent drawer, tumble dryer didn't dry at all. Oven has seen better days.

Review 43:Owners very welcoming and helpful. Very comfortable bed, nice bedlinen. excellent location for getting around. Overall very clean.

Review 44:No issues at all.

Review 45:Had a wonderful stay in the Stable Cottage. Very comfortable and cosy, and the outdoor sitting area was lovely. Would certainly stay again.

Review 46:Warm welcome, very comfortable flat at top of mill, frequent changes of towels and sheets.owners on site were lovely as were staff.loved the little shop which stocked a variety of things including ice lollies, breakfast food, wines and beer, note purchases in book and leave money in the honesty box.

Review 47:Stayed a very comfortable 4 days in Courtyard cottage. Owners very welcoming for us and our dog. Lovely setting and cottage.already booked again for later in year.

Review 48:The WIFI in our cottage was very spotty and kept dropping the signal. We had to walk outside to connect repeatedly. It was very frustrating because WIFI is a must for any place I stay. Although I loved everything else about the place, the WIFI situation was disappointing.

Review 49:The cottage was outstanding. Bed was very comfortable. Loved the decor and skylights. Hosts were friendly and tried to think of everything to make the stay pleasant.

Review 50:Only very slight irritation that the feeble wifi connection kept cutting in and out, but hey we weren't there for the connectivity!

Review 51:Above all the beuatiful peaceful location where we could breakfast outside in the sun. The cottage was well-equipped and spacious, the beds really comfortable; we wished we had time to stay a week rather than the one-night theatre trip we had booked.

Review 52:Lovely warm welcome when we arrived & whilst our charming hosts were on hand if there was anything we needed, we felt we had complete privacy in a beautiful setting. We will definitely return!

Review 53:Exit on to main road needs extra special care !

Review 54:Charming, quiet and nicely laid out. Simple straight forward arrival and departure procedure. Room was ready early.

Review 55:Low beams and tallish (6ft) husband made life hazardous and uncomfortable in kitchen/lounge/dining area. Kitchen and dining areas cramped.

Review 56:Attractive setting. Outside courtyard pleasant in warm sun.

Review 57:Very creaky bed and unable to connect to wifi from millstone cottage.

Review 58:Owners really left you to it and were very fiendly and helpful when asked. Kitchen well stocked, great shower and heating. Really good spot for seeing more of this lovely part of the world.

Review 59:There is absolutely nothing we did not like.

Review 60:Everything: house is well equiped, clean, lovely garden. Owners arer friendly and kind. Loved the dogs, especially Jack!

Review 61:Would have liked a small jug of fresh milk. The little containers of UHT milk don't taste good in tea.

Review 62:Location was handy for Chichester. Check in any time. Very well equipped and comfortable.

Review 63:We know the area well so obviously it suited us perfectly, easy access to Chichester for good shopping and eating. Various beaches, harbours etc. close by and beautiful countryside on the doorstep. Our Coutyard Cottage was warm, cosy and spotlessly clean with everything we needed catered for, but I'm sure if not that we could have asked for anything we needed. 2 nights was not enough.

Review 66:Spent 45 minutes trying to get hot water from the shower, eventually gave up. A curtain for the front door glass is needed.

Review 67:Warm welcome, excellent little cottage, beautiful grounds. We would use again

Review 68:Nothing we didt really like.. There was no ice in the shop,& we was giving a passcode for the wifi but could not connect to this.

Review 69:The actual cottage we stayed in was lovely, loved having our own privacy. The location of the place was really good too, will most definitely be going back here again. Good value for money too

Review 70:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 71:Our cottage had its own enclosed garden which was perfect for our 10 month old puppy. The bed was SO comfortable and I had the best night's sleep in ages! Fabulous shower too!

Review 72:Traffic noise from the surprisingly busy B road to Selsey very nearby was a shame, didn't really bother us, but something to know if you're looking for true peace and quiet.

Review 73:Very pleasing, comfortable (especially the bed), friendly, and a little quirky, nice rural views, ideal location for exploring the area.Good safe parking. We will return !

Review 74:The shower system (poor flow & pressure)was very poor but the owners were in the process of upgrading it and they did offer us the use of their other facilities if we wanted.

Review 75:It was lovely to stay in place where the owners have put a lot of effort and thought into the experience for the guests. My 7yo loved having the 3 family dogs to play with - great touch!

Review 76:Relaxed. Great for families. Would be ideal for groups of friends together - lots of smaller properties with a central outside area. And dog friendly too!

Review 77:This was not a real problem but the ceiling in the bathroom is only 6 feet high and there are two low beams in the downstairs living area. The frond door is only small as well but this only added to the whole feel of our break.

Review 78:There was a comfortable feel as we walked through the front door. It was quiet and had everything we needed. We had a one bedroom cottage that was on two floors.

Review 79:Given different cottage to one booked when booking was made on same day as arrival. Saw from other reviews dogs were ok in first cottage booked. Noise from room & small double bed disturbed sleep

Review 80:Pet facilities and overall nice feel. Host quick to provide replacment light bulbs

Review 81:Wifi wasn't great and I didn't get a great signal. Otherwise great.

Review 82:Loved the location and being away from it all. Not far from Chichester and the Witterings. Just what we needed.

Review 83:It was just right for our short stay and where we wanted to visit and walking along the canal into Chichester was an unexpected bonus.Would book again ,plenty more to do in the area,

Review 84:Nothing about the property - not easy walking on the busy road outside.

Review 85:Comfortable bed, adequate cooking facilities, nice sofa. Really friendly and helpful owners.

Review 86:Lovely individual cottages of all sizes. On site little store which has most of what you need. Even dvds for rubbish weather. Would love to visit again in the summer as bbqs are available and very pet friendly :) stayed in the mill top cottage. Was a bit cold but soon heated up and was lovely & cosy. Kitchen has everything you need , comfortable bed and super good shower :-)

Review 87:power shower didn't work when we arrived, have been fixed the following day. wifi only works on ground floor, very weak on the first floor, but not a huge problem.

Review 88:helpful staff, nice kitchen. the DVD player on the TV wasn't working but they swapped us another one straight away.

Review 89:The access for us (left hand drive car) was a bit hairy, not the hotels fault, but still scary. We came in the dark, at first we missed the sign post for the site and had to turn around and come back. Again, not the site's fault too much, but in the dark and being tired, perhaps a little more illumination or a sign down the road? But that's finding fault for the sake of it I suppose. Excellent site, Outstanding!!

Review 90:A number of individual little cottage style properties, all different and individual. Very quiet. We had half of a converted stable/barn. Very clean, let yourself in if prebooked, let yourself out. We only met the owner once, a lovely lady. Onsite little shop, not manned, help yourself. First thing we need, a cuppa, tea, coffee, milk all already there. I cannot rate this place highly enough!

Review 91:The WiFi didn't work well but it works!

Review 92:We stayed in the Mill Top Cottage from which we had a lovely view into the countryside. We loved the interior of the whole cottage, really nothing was missing. We also liked the walking distance to a Pub (a little dangerous in the dark - busy street).

Review 93:Wish we were there in summer to cycle and sail the fascinating South coast. The cottage shower water pressure was poor but ensured our teenagers did not over do their time allocation.

Review 94:We wanted to combine South coast sightseeing with Christmas market shopping in preparation for visiting relatives. Hurston Mill is in the heart of the Sussex countryside and yet close to Chichester, Arundel and Portsmouth. Arriving on a wet and windy night we were vey appreciative of the coach cottage comfort and space. We covered a lot of ground by car and stocked up on old English products as gifts for the family.

Review 95:You really have to drive to a resyurant or pub, however this is maybe why you want to come here in the first place!!!!!!! (ZERO NEGATIVES REALLY!)

Review 96:Fantastic, Wonderfull, Beutifull,, brilliant !!! This place is a really tranquil place to stay, is clean and cosy, all of the facilities are here even with a shop with all you may need from soap powder to bacon!! 100/10 guys! Can't wait to come back! (Summer or winter!)

Review 97:Vastly-overheated on arrival and we spent several hours with all the windows open! Otherwise superb; just a shame the weather meant the children could not take advantage of the play facilities!

Review 98:Size of cottage, cluster of characterful cottages together, on-site manager, honesty shop with breakfast basics.

Review 99:Got there in the dark and thought it could do with maybe more signs to each cottage or more lighting so that you can find your cottage more easily.

Review 100:Warm, comfortable and very homely. It was great that we could take our 2 dogs with us and even had our own enclosed garden for them to run around in. Over all we were very happy and would use and recommend to others.

Review 101:The driveway on to main road is a bit of a hazard but I doubt there is much that can be done about it

Review 102:I wished I had known about Hunston Mill Cottages sooner. Such a great location. The cottages were beautiful and spotlessly clean. The on site "honesty" shop and laundry were also a pleasant surprise.

Review 103:Building work on an additional holiday cottage going on right outside kitchen window that started around 8.00am. We felt this should have been mentioned on the website at the time of booking

Review 104:Cottage was very well laid out and comfortable

Review 105:We rented four cottages for different members of family gathering for my daughter's wedding. The interesting collection of cottages gave us all privacy and space enough. And allowed the bride to get ready, the wedding car to call etc.

Review 106:The kitchen could have done with a few more utensils - knives, etc. However, there was most of what we needed for a one night stay.

Review 107:We had a very happy stay at Dunston Mill. My son loved the garden and trampoline and the cottage was lovely. Thank you very much - we will be back, perhaps to stay in the mill.

Review 108:The exit from the property onto the main road is difficult but there is a convex mirror to aid visibility. Am not sure what more could be done. It's just a sign of the times!

Review 109:I found everything that I needed. Although the property owners were not on site upon arrival, the little chalkboards on the door system ensured that we took the correct property and there was a personal drop-in visit to ensure we were happy.

Review 110:We had to go home.

Review 111:The cottage is in beautiful settings with lots of wildlife around. We were left to our own devices and owners were nearby if we needed them. Not far from Chichester for food shops and an hour away from Brighton. Selsey beach is only few miles away too.

Review 112:We stayed in Court Yard cottage. Found it very difficult to produce a simple meal in the kitchen due to lack workspace , also all cooking smells go through the house due to no kitchen extractor. Beware of traffic when leaving Carpark exit as road is very busy with poor visibility.

Review 113:Plumbing needed updating as some taps leaked and others difficult to turn on or off.

Review 114:location was central and the cottages thoughtfully appointed. Shop on site a great idea!

Review 115:Can't think of anything except landline on website always goes to answer phone

Review 116:Was visiting my nan in Bognor an couldn't find accommodation that was suitable for 1st trip away with 9 week old baby. Luckily found Hunston Mill 15 minutes away from there. Stayed in old mill cottage was really spacious an light. Lovely comfy bed an large kitchen with surprisingly a lot of useful amenities much more than just the basics you would normally see. Had 4 places we could have sat outside just our cottage. Trampoline for kids, Free BBQ provided, gardens for dogs. Staff were freindly. Really lovely place will definatly come back next time.

Review 117:Our only criticism would be that the bed was not that comfortable, but for one night we weren't overly concerned! Also the road was surprisingly busy - if we booked again, I think we'd go for one of the cottages away from the road as the traffic noise was quite loud - even at 3 or 4 in the morning!

Review 118:We only stayed one night at Hunston Mill - we were in Courtyard Cottage. We wished we could have stayed longer as it was an ideal location for exploring the area. The cottages and mill are lovely - beautiful gardens and flowers and the little shop was very useful with every need catered for. Thelma was friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome and at home.

Review 119:The accommodation is dated and cluttered. There was extensive mildew in the shower area and the bed was very old and uncomfortable. Blackout curtains are needed in the bedroom as the site is very well lit at night. Overall, the experience was quite impersonal, but fortunately, we were able to find someone to help with some basic housekeeping issues that required immediate attention on arrival.

Review 120:The cooking facilities were good and the site was pleasant and green.

Review 121:I thought that the single beds were too small. The kids slept fine but I didn't. Also the clashing colours in the living room gave the cottage the feel or and old granny house. Red and yellow sofas totally mismatched with the colourful carpet. Being so close to the beach I think a nice neutral colour scheme with a few nautical details would provide for a more relaxing atmosphere and give a feeling of tranquility, both important requirements of a nice relaxing holiday.

Review 122:The little cottage we stayed in was rather compact but still quite nice with its private little patio and table outside. Great proximity to West Witterings beach less than 15 min away. Loved the little shop on the premises, although in summer it should have ice cream.

Review 123:The bed was creaky and uncomfortable, the shower over the bath was old, inconvenient and dangerous! The toilet didn't flush and we had to repair it ourselves as managers could not be contacted. Light bulb not working in bathroom very inconvenient. TV was tiny! The property was very difficult to find, not well signposted and entry & exit was awkward onto a 50mph road with limited visibility. Very expensive! A map with local eateries would have been helpful but no information given and managers couldn't be found!

Review 124:Very quaint and pretty Handy laundry facilities Clean cottage and very well kept grounds Opportunity to self-cater

Review 125:Beautiful place, peaceful, pretty gardens, pet friendly. And greeted by very helpful and friendly lady the moment of arrival. Even offered free bbq trays for brick built bbq, plenty of ice in store for hot days. Very comfortable and would love to visit there again.

Review 126:The cottage wasn't very clean - food on the floor, hair in the bath, bottle tops in the kitchen and a dirty towel

Review 127:The owner was very friendly and helped provide a cot and high chair

Review 128:Shower was a bit weak but, hey, there's a bath if that bothers you. Beware of Mill Top steps if you struggle with such things, I guess, but all good really.

Review 129:We had 'Mill Top' for a two day break. Warm welcome from the start by the owners and their two friendly dogs. The charming accommodation in this old windmill has got to be unique. Good location for exploring coast, town and country. We'll return but will stay at one of the other cottages as the family dog will be in tow and may struggle with Mill top's steps.

Review 130:WiFi signal was very poor inside of our cottage. We stayed at the bottom of the mill. If you are lucky, you could get rarely poor signal or none, basically it doesn't work inside. You have to go outside of the cottage, back of the mill.

Review 131:cottage itself was rather small, but big enough for 2 people, really cute. We could do BBQ in front of our cottage which was bonus. Outside space was lovely. Everything was there what we need, excellent. Overall, we really enjoyed staying there.

Review 132:There was a wasp in the garden once.

Review 133:We had a fantastic weekend. Prior to our stay I was immensely impressed by my correspondence with Mike. Once there Thelma was lovely too. The cottages are beautiful and in a fantastic location, clean, organised and welcoming. Thelma (and the dogs) were very polite and tolerant considering we were a hen do of 14 people and I cannot thank her and Mike enough for making Sally's weekend so so special. We will definitely be back when we aren't as rowdy! Thank you again. Hayley
