Reviews for Moonfleet Manor
Review 1:Swimming pool closed for refurb which wasn't detailed on Bookings website.
Review 2:A hotel with real character. Doesn't feel like you are staying in a hotel, more like you are the guest in a manor house plucked from Indian Tea Plantations of old. Staff service and friendliness was superb; best G&T i've ever had. Great food. Great scenic location. Snoopy added the final touches to a great stay
Review 3:Unfortunately you can smell old kitchen odours in several places of the entire hotel including the room an on its balcony (!) The first evening we arrived at 8pm with our three kids aged 5,8&10yrs. We were forbidden to have dinner in the dining area because of the rule in place that children are not allowed in dining area after 7.30pm... At the moment of arrival at a Family friendly Hotel this was highly disappointing!! We had to have dinner in the so called snug room at a coffee table without chairs (dinner prices moderate/high (!)) In general food preparation took ages and in terms of taste and quality only regular. In both rooms there were towels missing, had to ask for towels. Also, as a family we we would have liked to have rooms a bit closer from each other. Rooms were booked altogether indicating the age of kids. Nevertheless, we had rooms at to opposite ends of the hotel.
Review 4:Our children liked the indoor swimming pool . The landscape is very beautiful.
Review 5:Complacent customer care and over-priced for what you get. Place needs a lick of paint and the bar prices some serious reduction.
Review 6:The candle-lit lounges in the evening and the location.
Review 7:Too many niggly things that would stop us from coming back as a couple though one day would do so with grandchildren! lighting in the bedroom was awful, we found it hard to read as the old fashioned lamps gave no light. Bedroom felt very small for the money we paid. The 6 dead flies on the window sill at breakfast was unpleasant and the dining room in general felt very shabby. Food at breakfast was good but the fact it took 3 lots of people to seat us, bring toast and then take the order was tedious. We only ate in 1/3 evenings as the wine was exorbitant, shocking and left us feeling cross.
Review 8:We liked the location and quirkiness of the hotel and many of the little touches. The two male bar staff were charming !! Comfy bed and nice linen, preferred a harder pillow which was provided on request!
Review 9:Limited vegetarian options on menu same vegetarian main dish for 4 days, if you are staying full board and a vegetarian if you don't like the option you are stuck and even if you do, you don't want it 4 days in a row. Wifi unreliable and mobile signal poor
Review 10:Staff were friendly and helpful, food was good lots for children to do
Review 11:Although breakfast was delicious the service was dreadful. Very long wait for order to be taken then another very long wait for it to be presented. Staff very pleasant and apologetic but either badly managed or understaffed.
Review 12:Lovely old hotel set in stunning surroundings. Great room on top floor. Lots of unusual wall hangings and ornaments. Food delicious. Service at dinner was excellent.
Review 13:The hotel is very tired. It has a lot of facilities, but they all need updating. The furniture in the lounges need re-upholstering as they are very uncomfortable.
Review 14:The bacon at breakfast was very good
Review 15:Cobwebs and spiders everywhere. I don't believe the cleaners look above the floor area. Every light fitting, around the ceiling on the stairs and in the room there were webs and spiders, lots of spiders. Also, there was a pair of men's dirty underwear from the previous occupiers left in the room. Admittedly they were under the wardrobe, so not in plain sight, but when you have small kids they tend to get in and around all the furniture.
Review 16:Facilities for children were excellent. Creche, daily movies, pool, outdoor and indoor play areas. Views are good, as was the quiet location.
Review 17:Great location such friendly staff and so helpful after we arrived very late at night after another hotel said they didn't receive our booking!!! Only thing I would note is phone signal was limited but we loved getting away from it all!! Found this place absolutely last minuite and it was a true gem!
Review 18:It's a little pricy in school holiday season. Especially if you enjoy the excellent food and wine list.
Review 19:Fantastic location, set behind Fleet Lagon and the Coastal Path runs through the end on the grounds. Moonfleet is great place for children to enjoy with a huge indoor activity centre, pool and grounds; also free crèche so adults can have a break. The hotel is stylish and the food is excellent.
Review 20:The room was little 'musty' and the hotel is looking tired in some areas but this is a minor moan.
Review 21:fantastic location and the food was superb. The staff both waiting and reception were attentive and knowledgeable. Had great stay even though it is more a family hotel. It is very god
Review 22:As a single during the school holidays, I really did feel like a bit of an oddity. The wifi needs improving. The Reception desk was a busy at times. The website's directions to the hotel could be better, as could road signage. I had to ignore satnav. Instead, you need to take Fleet Road at the mini-roundabout off the B3157 (3 miles from Weymouth at the west end of Chickerell village). Once on the little Fleet Road, you just keep travelling down this narrow lane until you get to a point where there are three options to choose from. Take the middle one - it takes you into the car park at Moonfleet Manor.
Review 23:Shabby-chic furnishings in an old manor house, with an air of faded glory. Handy for Weymouth, Abbotsbury Swannery, the Jurassic Coast. The room was comfy. Plenty of hot water. Quiet. Glorious location. Right on the fleet. You walk out of the back and you're on the coastal path. Good facilities available, although I was not there long enough to try out the pool and spa. It is a great for families wanting a more upmarket hotel break. Lots of holiday activities for kids laid on.
Review 24:The facilities were not what we expected. The pool seemed unclean, the lining on the pool side was coming away. The hotel wasn't cleaned properly, we saw the same flies on the windowsill for days.
Review 25:The location was nice but no obvious access to the coast from the hotel.
Review 26:Some of the facilities were a bit tired for a luxury hotel. The children's play barn was a it shabby and could do with a makeover.
Review 27:Great for small children. Lots to do. Great location
Review 28:Everything was great
Review 29:They have thought of everything for little ones. Staff are friendly. Creche is excellent, loved the listening service, views are beautiful, area is great and so much to do, food is great. Fabulous swimming pool, soft play area is super. There is nothing not to like.
Review 30:Outside paintwork adjoining coastal side looks scruffy and the verandah and swim pool buildings are a bit tired. Nothing to seriously dislike.
Review 31:Location, an area we know well and love it. Beautiful lounges with very interesting furniture and artifacts. The Moonfleet book connection gives it a certain mystique too.
Review 32:When we received our bill we discovered the charge for our dog, and worse that they had charged 10% gratuities for each meal. I signed the restaurant bills and did NOT Iinclude a gratuity, but apparently the gratuity had already been added onto the bills BEFORE signature.
Review 33:The ability to stay with our beloved Labrador although when we received the bill they had charged £15 per night for her which we had not been made aware of when we arrived
Review 34:Pool needs a refurb- no gym.
Review 35:Within two hours of arriving my son had lost his shoes.. The member of staff popped her head round the door and suggested he may have left them by the trampoline which he tried on Arrival. How she knew that or his name is all part of the magic. Spa treatments are better than one might expect.
Review 36:Price for 1 person in a double room is always costly. Cheaper rate for singles would be appreciated
Review 37:Friendly, comfortable and excellent quality food. Brilliant service. Wonderful tranquil location.
Review 38:WiFi not work and phone reception non existent few spiders and daddy long legs around and a bit of cleaning would have assisted (corners, ceilings)
Review 39:lovely location, out in the sticks but convenient or the ferry port in Weymouth, we were on our way home back to Guernsey staff were welcoming, old house and would describe as English country home with shabby chic decoration.. roaring fires, comfy sofas, eclectic decoration but great food and wine and lovely staff welcoming to children particularly, with a house dog so pets welcome as well
Review 40:The pool area was rusty and dated and felt like a temporary building rather than a permanent structure. Pool lining was bubbled. This cannot be classed as a luxurious facility. It was done on the cheap and desperately needs redoing. Some areas in the dining room also need some thorough cleaning
Review 41:Facilities and thought gone into accommodating children where excellent plus and staff are the hotels greatest asset
Review 42:Excellent food and spacious comfortable room. Informal ambiance. Good walking in the vicinity. Hotel provided lots of information on walks and trips in the area.
Review 43:Room tired Some mould in bathroom Wood lice present daily in room, origin uncertain, also saw once in dining room. When told staff seemed(falsely) surprised. Wifi awful, no internet even from public areas, staff acknowledge this, so marketing is misleading. Dead plants inreception, generally old and on the shabby side of relaxed. Withinvestment could be stunning.
Review 44:Friendly helpful staff Informal relaxed atmosphere Excellent food
Review 45:Need to get the wifi sorted and the tea and coffee in room was cheap rubbish also no bottled still water was provided just a small bottle of fizzy water yuk.
Review 46:Location, location, location fantastic. Photographers paradise, with wonderful views of the milky way at night to ornithological delights during the day. We will be back!!
Review 47:Shoddy and tatty. Dirty bathroom with wood lice all over the floor in the morning. Rickety furniture. Threadbare carpets. The fact that they call this a "luxury" hotel. Paying £120 for bed and breakfast when all the above made it grim.
Review 48:The staff were chatty and pleasant.
Review 49:Mature couples may find that the hotel caters mainly for families with young children. Although the children should be in bed in the evenings they were running into the dining room. Breakfast was very busy and again children were the priority.Staff tried their best!
Review 50:Excellent food and excellent restaurant staff.
Review 51:Absence of wholmeal bread at breakfast. The bath in our room hadn't been properly cleaned (on far side only) from previous users of the room.
Review 52:Tasteful decor, furnishings, artwork, views, food, staff, games room, board games, newspapers, DVD player option in bedroom and choice toiletries for use during stay. Lots of free communal rooms and space meant that it didn't feel busy even with quite a number of children and babies staying on site.
Review 53:approach to spa very scruffy and confusing to find. Also approach to swimming area could also do with some attention.
Review 54:friendly, lovely linen and towels. pool, food lovely but a little too rich (may be a bad choice on my part in evenings) breakfast lovely. Spa very very good.
Review 55:Warm welcome, excellent facilities, spacious rooms, perfect for families
Review 56:Needed tlc dated and tatty
Review 57:Facilities
Review 58:The food was brilliant and the staff were great. The view from our room over the beach was also lovely.
Review 59:None
Review 60:An earlier guest had described the hotel 'as staying in the big house of a wealthy maiden much loved aunt'. They got it right!
Review 61:Very friendly staff and fascinating building.
Review 62:Smell of toiletries, a little tired
Review 63:Location, dinner, ambience (background music, general feel)
Review 64:The play facilities for the children were very good
Review 65:Needs a bit of work to bring it back to expected standard. Very expensive.
Review 66:Lovely old building. Great location
Review 67:Location
Review 68:Peace, dog walks, games rooms.
Review 69:Some furniture in room was worn Wifi connection pretty poor. Waiting staff forgot orders
Review 70:Free creche
Review 71:Tatty exterior and pool. Information about layout not clear. Pool shut too early.
Review 72:Some nice Communal rooms and pleasant staff
Review 73:Lovely large room with view, excellent food
Review 74:Nothing
Review 75:View from the window Special post Christmas offer
Review 76:Great Food ,Friendly and professional staff, plenty of things for children and Dog friendly a relaxing stay for all the family.
Review 77:Needs a refurb as a wifi booster. We were very happy as it was so dog friendly.
Review 78:Dog friendly. Shabby chic. Friendly staff and helpful resourcefulness.
Review 79:It's very tired and desperately in need of some loving care
Review 80:The food was excellent
Review 81:Over priced and bit shabby. Needs a refurb
Review 82:Good baby listening service and food was excellent.
Review 83:Fabulous location. Fabulous Food. Friendly and helpful staff.Dog friendly
Review 84:Poor wifi, although food excellent not a great lunch/ snack choice
Review 85:Location, friendliness of staff, excellent food.
Review 86:This is an old building/hotel also dog friendly so don't expect the building to be immaculate. Just the service & staff.
Review 87:Remote location, great for coastal walks, swimming pool reasonable size also has kids swimming area. Staff attentive, food and service in restuarant best had for long time. Dog friendly which was key reason for our choice.
Review 88:the whole thing was naff and there is no standard anywhere even the breakfast was poor and full of noisy children toddlers and the like! obviously popular venue for very young families and the standards are non-existent.
Review 89:the room was dull and had no natural light as well as the lighting was poor the floor was creeking and the whole experience was not worth the value!
Review 90:The room was in an annex which was very hot. There was a stand alone fan but it was very noisy.
Review 91:The location, the hotel facilities, the food and the staff were all very good.
Review 92:Leaving
Review 93:Relaxing surroundings and furnishing, staff were not evasive but always on hand if you need anything. Food was of high quality and served in good time.
Review 94:Although the meals were good and well presented a more varied menu on a daily basis would have been welcome. After a few days the same choices become boring.
Review 95:A comfortable hotel, which although family orientated made provision for the older visitor
Review 96:More what could be improved rather than what I didn't like: It wouldbe good if breakfast could continue later, to allow for a lie in and aswim before breakfast, rather than one or the other. Better if waitingstaff could be aligned to specific tables - we had about 8 differentstaff, efficient but slightly confusing
Review 97:Friendly
Review 98:1 cost for grandparents - quite expensive to accompany family 2 furnishing in room, limited storage
Review 99:1. comfy beds, towels etc. 2. flexibility for family, meals etc. 3 staff pleasantness 4 facilities
Review 100:Its comfortable rather than being luxury. The pool is not big enough for older kids either. And be careful - half board rates are for adults only - all other food for kids is extra. Booking.com is misleading in this regard.
Review 101:This is a great set up for families with younger children. Over 10s struggle a bit. Food was very good and the atmosphere is very relaxed.
Review 102:Price of the food, £18 for a sharing seafood platter who contains morebread than seafood!
Review 103:The hotel in itself, the decor sand the friendliness of the staff.
Review 104:Very friendly staff Tucked away Informal but high quality Child and adult friendly Easy access to Dorset Coastal Path
Review 105:no bar so no meeting point.shabby and needs up dating .
Review 106:Would have preferred help yourself buffet style for your main breakfast
Review 107:Friendly staff , upmarket feel to rooms and facilities
Review 108:Could do better at making toast
Review 109:So welcoming and accommodating you feel you are part of a house party rather than just a hotel guest
Review 110:We could only stay three nights
Review 111:Good food, friendly staff and lots of facilities
Review 112:Small bedroom
Review 113:Excellent food & character
Review 114:Very dirty room! Far too expensive. Never again!
Review 115:some of the bedrooms were cramped
Review 116:facilaties were good
