Reviews for Travelrest Fareham Solent Gateway

Review 1:The hotel had no heating one evening and they were waiting until the next day to get it sorted out. Brought me a space heater and gave me a free breakfast. Travellers do expect a mid-priced hotel to make provisions for emergency repairs to heating/cooling systems.

Review 2:Excellent breakfast conservatory space. Receptionist was attentive, and helpful with transportation bookings. Stayed here before and the service/room were good that time as well. Updated, modern, colourful rooms. Shower head delivers a lot of water.

Review 3:would have been nice to have apple juice- but that's the only weakspot in an otherwise great stay!

Review 4:Just what's was needed- clean decent sized room, good WiFi, and an good breakfast

Review 5:Room very dated, bed small but comfortable. Bathroom adequate but not luxurious, shower reasonable. Curtains old and ill fitting, carpet sad and drab.

Review 6:Friendly, helpful staff. Dining room looked nice but we didn't avail of any meals so can't comment. Basic accommodation in a good location with ample parking. Old building and dated décor with modern add-on dining/bar area

Review 7:Not enough space to put things on in the room..as tge bedside tables were very small..also in the bathroom, one tiny glass shelf above the sink, so just room for toothbrushes..also the sink wad tiny, very.. The breakfast wasnt worth the extra money, as the cooked breakfast came on a very small plate, with one very cheap, fatty tasting sausage, one hash brown, eggs, bacon, one small half of a tomatoe...really dissapointing..then found The Harvester ne t door does an all you can eat breakfast for half the price..

Review 8:The staff were amazing, always very helpful..very friendly. The hotel was very clean, and the rooms, fresh, bright, and not one bit of dust anywhere..

Review 9:Friendly reception, excellent breakfasts, good sized and spotlessly clean room, good off road parking. Stayed here before and happy to come back again.

Review 10:Wifi worked in the room contrary to the advertisement but it was weak and dropped out sometimes. A bit of road noise but not a problem to us.

Review 11:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Location was good.

Review 12:Bed was one of the worst I've ever had in a hotel. And I'm not that fussy!

Review 13:Clean. Tidy hotel. Good location and excellent local selection of restaurants. Also very quiet.

Review 14:The only down side of the hotel was the driveway was stones and we were on the front, with the window open, and so when cars arrived late it was a bit noisy

Review 15:The hotel was easy to find. Although on a busy road access was easy.

Review 16:Staff had a 'couldn't care less' attitude - when ordering food within the timescale of times in the menu they had an attitude that the kitchen was closed and it was them doing us a favour, then the food arrived burned with no apology. We're not interested in our polite explanation that it was burned and still has to pay full price.

Review 17:The location is good and has the potential to be a lovely hotel

Review 18:Cups in the room were filthy. Breakfast was slow and unorganised, the lady serving was more interested in feeding herself then the guests. Very slow and poor service. When I mentioned this at reception the lady o spoke to gave no apology and was quite rude.

Review 19:If you want to be very picky some of the floor boards creak but so do some in my house! There is nothing we didn't like

Review 20:This hotel was a great find it is welcoming clean comfortable and the location is great for any type of stay but very good fr the ferries to France.

Review 21:Our initial room was at the front of the hotel and the noise from the road was pretty bad when the window was open.

Review 22:The staff were really helpful and friendly. Couldn't ask for better.

Review 23:We had a family room and it was all lovely apart from the so called double bed. It was the smaller version of a double bed, so me and my partner didn't sleep very well as here wasn't much room to move

Review 24:Lovely building, garden, good Parking, comfy lounge room and lovely room

Review 25:The breakfast sausages - need to buy more expensive ones!

Review 26:Good sized family room Good breakfast Accommodating, given we arrived well after reception closed

Review 27:Not a bad experience, but evening meals cannot be taken in hotel. Harvester pub 50 metres away but as I was going out to a b b q, did not eat there. Breakfast in hotel was good

Review 28:WiFi good, stable. Bedroom and bathroom large and clean. Bed comfortable. Breakfast excellent.

Review 29:The bathroom was pretty dated and could have been cleaner. The bed was uncomfortable and VERY creaky. The pillows and duvets were low quality and worn out.

Review 30:Fair price. Friendly staff, good breakfast service.

Review 31:near to where we picked our ferry up good car park room was comfortable breakfast room looked good but had to leave early .had dinner in harvester walking distance

Review 32:I am a bit OCD but the windows could ha e been cleaner and the water pressure together with mild water didn't really make it a fantastic shower.

Review 33:Staff are welcoming and friendly. They seem to have the time of day for you. The very minor dislikes are more down to my light OCD than to any real issue.

Review 34:We arrived on the Saturday with the afternoon to spare and the gentleman on the reception desk was a great help in giving us direction to where we planned on spending the afternoon.

Review 35:The room was okay but just starting to show some signs of wear and tear.

Review 36:Good location for my work visit and excellent and friendly staff and service at reception.

Review 37:The bed was clean and comfortable but was a bit creaky when turning over during the night. Otherwise it was great and we would deffinitely stay again.

Review 38:Welcoming, accomodating, clean and perfect for an overnight stop. We had to leave early and they made us breakfast to go which was just great! Would love to stay for a proper breakfast next time!

Review 39:If you paint a room don't put guests until paint smell gone . Had to ask for another room they had one other left phew - first one stank of fresh paint ...

Review 40:I found then bed to be lumpy and the curtains were thin so a lot of light came in after sunrise. The shower was also weak with a tendency to swing from hot to cold. We couldn't get the wifi to work in the room

Review 41:The staff were polite and the breakfast was as advertised. For the price it's a nice little hotel The room was clean

Review 42:This was my 3rd stay at Travelrest, its a lovely guest house close to family who live in the area. Always excellent, staff friendly as ever and the bed is so comfy. I have had various rooms within the guest house, all have been very clean and fine in size. Very generous with the tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits and they leave a bottle of water for you, which is always appreciated. It can vary in price a little, this stay was a bargain. Free parking is a great asset.

Review 43:Breakfast not served until 8pm, which was a bit difficult as we needed to be out by 8.30

Review 44:Although late breakfast - we were able to "take out" a sausage sandwich for the cooked part of breakfast Hospitality tray well stocked and able to get top ups if needed Free Wi-Fi Large dining area in the conservatory Bar and sitting room available Good size room

Review 45:Surly and unwelcoming reception. Old thermostatic mixer shower running hot and cold and scalded my leg! Put in an adapted disabled room. We had no problem with this of course in principle but it was adapted specifically. Not sure if the lack of a toilet seat lid was an adaptation as such? Room right next to the restaurant & so unable to open curtains in the morning. Very poor value for money considering other places we have stayed were inclusive of breakfast for this price (and managed to deliver great customer service!)

Review 46:The breakfast wasn't worth £8. Ad says all you can eat but it's not. Cook got orders wrong.

Review 47:We had two rooms next to each other which was perfect. Staff very cheerful and helpful. Rooms a decent size. No noise.

Review 48:A little tired in places, bathroom floor had been screwed down rather than replaced, but was adequate, some of the double glazing was misty inside

Review 49:Cleanest hotel we have stayed at for a while, basin was gleaming. Nice touch having a bottle of water in room, did not expect it

Review 50:Bathroom lighting could do with updating, WiFi not available in the room,

Review 51:Friendly staff, comfy room, car parking, good location, quiet and very reasonably priced,

Review 52:Being on the ground floor is was quiet noisy with children running up and down the corridor. Also the lady next door had a dog and this kept barking.

Review 53:Beds were lovely and comfortable.

Review 54:very dated corridors and rooms, stains on carpet Small rooms , very cheap quality of sausage for breakfast,

Review 55:Pets friendly ,garden ,friendly staff, good choice of breakfast for £8, free parking, good for 1 night stay

Review 56:Had room at the back of the hotel this time instead of the front so wifi signal was terrible.

Review 57:All round great place to stay. Staff are very accomadating when asked for something. Also free parking.

Review 58:The welcome pack in the room was excellent one of the best i've seen. just needs to be re vamped. Great there is a bar even although we never used it. Room was really comfortable.

Review 59:The only problem we had was shower temperature in our room varied from cool to very very hot without warning.

Review 60:Staff were polite and helpful, Rooms cleaned daily. Nice breakfast with good choice. Close to train station. bus routes and shops.

Review 61:Xmas eve morning - only 2 other guests in the place and only member of staff shoots off to attend sister hotel - leaving us without any breakfast, security or even a " good morning". Not impressed and little positive response from the Director when contacted about this.Won't stay again!!!

Review 62:I have stayed in this hotel before and found that the general state of the room had deteriorated since my last stay. Maybe the hotel needs a bit of an overhaul to get it back up to scratch. Not really worth the money paid. I also requested a quiet/non-ground floor room when I booked the room, but on turning up the lady who checked me in gave me a ground floor room and said that she had been sent no information from Booking relating to my additional request?!

Review 63:Friendly staff Good location Walking distance to railway

Review 64:There was nothing we didn't like.

Review 65:WE were visiting family the location was brilliant. Excellent breakfast, lovely dining room. Our second visit, will visit again.

Review 66:The bed was a bit soggy and the mattress needed replacing. I have stayed in 2 different rooms in this hotel and found the same issue in both. Also, room service was not available on my 2nd visit.

Review 67:The hotel is immaculately clean and the staff are very helpful.

Review 68:Staff not particularly helpful or friendly. It felt a bit like a hostel - poor shower, small TV with worn out remote; not all lights working in room; basic decor with out of date style touches. Lacked 'warmth' No restaurant facility [except breakfast] though Harvester near by. Price may be appropriate for the area, but seemed expensive for the style, which is guest house rather than hotel

Review 69:This 'hotel' is an good location and was surprisingly quiet. Good tea and coffee in room; clean

Review 70:When I arrived the lady who came to reception did not smile, or make me feel welcome. Although I enjoyed the breakfasts, the different staff on duty during the four days did not come back to my table to check all was ok, or ask me if I wanted more coffee/toast.

Review 71:I travelled to Fareham by train, so found it very convenient to be able to walk a short distance to the hotel. My double bed was very comfortable. I had a quiet room on the first floor at the back of the hotel, with a bath, which I prefer to a shower.

Review 72:Cost ok for business people who can claim on expenses but for a pensioner like myself attending a funeral a biut steep.

Review 73:Ground Floor rooms and two equipped for travellers with disabilities. Excellent breakfast.

Review 74:One bed had the mattress hanging over the base by inches, both mattress were at the end of life and were saggy, both were covered with toppers which were old and badly uncomfortable. So no sleep.

Review 75:I liked everything about the hotel apart from the beds

Review 76:stayed a couple of days as we have friends who live near by , didnt have breakfast at the hotel so cant comment but the breakfast is served in nice big conservatory at rear . we had room at the rear , so nice and quiet overlooking garden , car park good & free . all good , will stay again . thanks

Review 77:Room was a bit dated for £80 a night.

Review 78:Staff went out of their way to help with our requirements - allowing us to have an earlier than advertised breakfast (as we were staying for the Great South Run), which was excellent value. We were also given a room with towels, to use after the race, for a shower before our drive back North. Comfortable, warm spacious room. Near to train station - 5 mins walk, free parking and near to a Harvester pub (which we went to for tea). Easy to find.

Review 79:Staff very efficient and friendly. Rooms were clean. Breakfast was delicious and served in a lovely conservatory overlooking a well kept garden. The accommodation is within walking distance to the railway station and shopping centre.

Review 80:Breakfast fantastic and staff very pleasant and polite. Rooms very tidy and clean and attended to regularly ie refills of tea coffee and milk and bed made up ect Great for parking too

Review 81:Bedroom required fresh air needed airing badly. Breakfast expensive and mediocre quality. Bed had what appeared to be foam mattress not comfortable need to be replaced. Front room noisy to the road.

Review 82:Convenient polite and helpful staff. Efficient

Review 83:Not the best soundproofing as we were woken up by an alarm in another room that kept going.

Review 84:pleasant stay in a comfortable room. The hotel was good value and located close to where we wanted to go. Friendly staff.

Review 85:Pets allowed and could be heard. Room very warm. Some Traffic noise if at front of hotel.

Review 86:Easy to get to. Good parking facilities. Room very comfortable. Staff friendly. Nice lounge area. Excellent breakfast.

Review 87:A small hotel that is staring to look a little tired in places. Otherwise great.

Review 88:Close to Fareham centre but far enough away to be quiet. Also handy for Gosport, Portsmouth and Hedge End. The Solent is close by too. A friendly hotel with a pleasant garden.

Review 89:attitude of a member of staff on the second morning. Said they were short staffed so would have to wait for the juice to be refilled for breakfast. We had to take spare glasses, milk, and cutlery of other tables as she was too busy to get more we would have to wait. In fact we had to clear a table ourselves so that we could sit for breakfast. A shame as up to that point we were very happy with the service.

Review 90:convenient for Portsmouth, nice rooms

Review 91:My only dislike was the quilt on the bed was a little too warm for the time of year. Otherwise no negatives at all

Review 92:Very helpful staff. A clean and comfortable hotel in a very good location for access to Fareham town centre

Review 93:Breakfast on the last day spoilt the rest of the break. There was no orange juice left so we asked several times for it to be refilled the answer given was we are short staffed you will get it when you get it! The tables hadn't been reset so no cutlery or milk for the tea so had to get things our self which were clean from uncleared tables. Juice arrived after 20 minutes but no glasses so we found some clean ones again off other uncleared tables.

Review 94:Generally good.

Review 95:Our room was a bit too warm for our liking, but we were able to open the top windows.

Review 96:The staff bent over backwards to allow us to check in extra early (at no extra cost) to allow us to attend a family wedding on time and giving us ample time to freshen up and change. Breakfast was delicious - served piping hot and my scrambled egg was cooked to perfection!

Review 97:1. Our bedroom was at the front ,ground floor, a very hot night so with windows open, road was very noisy so didn't sleep well. 2. On arrival, no ice was available for a Pimms drink: would have had something else if I'd known ; ice machine broken. 3.Only one bath towel in the bathroom, had to ask for a second one.

Review 98:Friendly staff, great cooked breakfast. Garden for our dog.

Review 99:As this summer is a good one and hopefully we will get more summers like this it would be very helpful if a fan was available to use in bedrooms

Review 100:Everything was fine staff very helpful and friendly have stayed many times before and will stay with again as a lovely place to stay

Review 101:Nothing

Review 102:Lady at front desk when we arrived very friendly & helpful. Rooms very comfortable & well appointed, very clean. We had the breakfast which was good in the lovely downstairs conservatory dining room. They very nicely let us take over the downstairs lounge to watch the All Blacks play. Great place to stay.

Review 103:The beds were comfortable and we had a good nights sleep

Review 104:Very friendly staff. Excellent location. Nothing is too much trouble. Good breakfast. Value for money.

Review 107:Friendly welcome . Facilities clean and tidy. Excellent location to attend our daughters passing out at collingwood. Breakfast good value for money.

Review 108:Quiet, no creaking floorboards, excellent and friendly service.

Review 109:Excellent location. Room spotlessly clean. Staff extremely helpful and accomodating Would certinly book again if I was travelling to the area.

Review 114:Decor was a bit dated.

Review 122:Bar was a bit pricey.

Review 123:It was easy to find and very quiet. Good sized room with lovely towels in the bathroom. Great breakfast with view of the garden.
