Reviews for The Vestry
Review 1:The room was spacious & clean although the décor was a little tired. The location does not have private parking facilities although they have an arrangement with local private owner between 6pm & 10am, the rest of the time the charge is £1.30/Hr. Sleep is only possible after about 12.30, when the music in the bar below ends.
Review 2:Central location in Chichester close to main shopping area
Review 3:Extremely friendly, helpul bar staff. Superb location. We stayed here on Wednesday night after travelling from Cornwall to pick up a car. The girls behind the bar were very friendly and welcoming. An acoustic guitarist played and sang later in the evening. Very relaxing. The room was comfortable, with everything we needed, even down to a box of tissues by the bed. Tea, coffee and biscuits were provided in the room. I would have liked a slightly larger TV, as I'm a bit short sighted, but for one night it wasn't a problem. Ample shampoo and shower gel in the spacious bathroom. We had the full Vestry breakfast, which was very good indeed, with a choice of juices, cereals and grapefruit in addition to the cooked meal. We would most definitely stay here again.
Review 4:I liked the quirky style of this Inn with rooms. The staff were fairly friendly and the bar was spasmodically busy. The room was comfortable and warm and fairly well appointed. Taxi prices are quite reasonable as well. There would appear to be plenty of places to go to for evening meals as well as some traditional shops which is good to see, one of which is an old style sweet shop.
Review 5:The bathroom looked like it hadn't been clened thoroughly for some time. The shower ran freezing cold or scalding hot. The cold tap had a tiny trickle of water.
Review 6:Very friendly and helpful staff. The food was fresh and tasty.
Review 7:Clean the corners of the bath rooms , and replace bath facias when get time apart from .
Review 8:The efficiency of staff and and the relaxed atmosphere ,, very good find I'll recommend to all my customers in the hairdressers
Review 9:Everything was not told about party's until two in the morning bath had a big crack in it fire alarm went off breakfast took an hour room was not delux
Review 10:Have to pay a lot during stay to park. Bar was very noisy from 10 pm until 2am ! Was told a email advising me of this had been sent, but I did not receive anything!!
Review 11:Location , friendly, comfortable clean room. Great breakfast .
Review 12:The bedroom smelt strongly of stale cigarette smoke. The outer casing of the jazuzzi bath was badly cracked and dirty. When jacuzzi was turned on dirt came out of the nozzles.
Review 13:Friendliness of staff, warm atmosphere and good service.
Review 14:No hot water on arrival/before evening meal out. Smoke alarm going off in middle of night for no reason. Noise from bar/disco below until 2am.
Review 15:Spacious room. Staff friendly & attentive. Given a discount due to noise problem.
Review 16:V slow mediocre breakfasts after disturbed night .LOUD music until 2.00 am. Room not very clean.
Review 17:Some staff v friendly. Convenient for cThedral and shopping
Review 18:There's not a lot you can do about it but I found the stairs quite steep. I am disabled making stairs a personal problem for me but maybe a hand rail on the other side would have made it easier for me to descend. Also we found the beds a little hard and squeaky!
Review 19:The staff were very friendly and hard working. The room was pretty and was a lovely size. Arriving on a Friday night we really enjoyed the disco (not so much the music but people watching was fun). It's been years since we went to a disco!
Review 20:The only thing that let it down was it was very dusty round skirting and needed some redecorating.
Review 21:Staff where very helpful and pleasant ,food very good, very good choice for breakfast. Bed was very comfy.
Review 22:Very large room, but chilly and decor rather tired. Bar and restaurant empty on arrival during evening but loud music commenced at 10pm for almost 2 hours.
Review 23:Very helpful and friendly staff, with good facilities.
Review 24:That I missed breakfast was so hungry after a night out with friends that slept in and missed breakfast And the fact that house keeping woke me up to see if someone was I in the room has they didn't know if I was checked in there needs to be a something done there in house most hotels have a list to show a room occupancy especially in an event of fire or any emergency.
Review 25:Room was at first glance amazing I was picturing a room with bed and tv but got so much more the bathroom was the size of an average hotel room and had more than adequate room for three to sleep in Surprised wasn't the word when I found a hot tub bath shower combo in the and enjoyed that first thing in the morning. Silence. When choosing a hotel just off the high street I thought there would be noise student car but it was so peacefull. The bed was big enough for three people I stretch out beyond any bed I have before and still had room for another person Now we get to the little problems and I mean only little but noticeable enough that I had to avoid looking at them Bathroom floor all tiles and large white like mould marks round the bass of toilet bowl and surrounding the bath\hut tub In the bath there needs to be some sort of adhesive stickers so when showering you dont slip four or five times Walls had large strips of wall paper open above the door which compares to the rest of the room it made it feel warn down In the room it self there was ticking noise couldn't find where it was coming from but was feel asleep was fine The amenities perfect lots of them and plenty to spare Tv in room great size but turned itself on and off and volume up and down at times when I was there so had to switch off at the plug to make sure it didn't do it while sleeping Like I said tiny things overall brilliant place and would recommend to all my friends who with me will be staying again next year on our next reunion
Review 26:The decor is in need of updating and the bed was a little uncomfortable. Our toilet seat was broken and moved every time you sat on it. When sitting on the toilet, you were squashed against the heated towel rail. Our room also smelled of cooking. The TV was so small you could barely see it from the bed and we had to get up to read the guide.
Review 27:Great location, right in the centre of Chichester with amenities close by and some great restaurants. A well cooked breakfast.
Review 28:Convenient central location, ideal for exploring the town. Friendly staff, even when we arrived past midnight! Warm, clean, comfortable room, hearty breakfast, great value for money
Review 29:If you're coming by car it's very difficult to find due to the one way system, pedestrian area and lack of signs to car park.
Review 30:Very good price for well located basic accomodation.
Review 31:A very friendly hotel and helpful staff. Located in the high street within a short walk of the station and shops, with loads of restaurants just a few steps away. The rooms were well fitted and very quiet, plenty of towels provided and tea and coffee facilities generously catered for, even with nice packets of biscuits. The breakfast was excellent, lovely fresh produce and freshly cooked, with a good choice too. Car parking provided free from 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm just at the back of the hotel, which was a huge benefit and not expected. Overall a great stay at a very reasonable price. We will be back
Review 32:Rooms were clean and adequate but worn. Good place if you need a clean room, helpful staff and a filling meal.
Review 33:The staff was excellent guiding a lost traveler thru the darkness. Friendly, helpful. Caring.
Review 34:the room was filthy, everything was covered in dust, it looked and smelt dirty. The window frames were so rotten they didn't have any paint on them. Very poor for £95. Below average breakfast.Nowhere did it say a dj on saturday night until 12.30am
Review 35:the location was good
Review 36:Parking in city car park only free between 6.00 pm and 10.00 am. Noisy band (Friday night) and uncomfortable bed.
Review 37:Very friendly helpful staff and good breakfast
Review 38:Staff are extremely friendly and served a very tasty full English breakfast. Clean comfortable room, central location close to Chichester Cathedral with free parking until 10am. In the evening, there is a lovely atmospheric bar at the Vestry with a roaring log fire and bar food available- if you don't fancy that, there is a wide choice of restaurants on the doorstep.
Review 39:No carpark had to use public carpark during the day which made it quite expensive.
Review 40:The staff was very welcoming and helpful, my room was comfortable and quiet. Good hearty breakfast.
Review 41:The place is under staffed. We had to wait until the barman called somebody to reception. The breakfast was second rate, with only a few slices of tinned grapefruit floating around in a dish. Butter arrived on a slice of toast which was on the egg and bacon. The scrambled egg was solid and the ONLY croissant avaiable was stale. We won't be staying there again.
Review 42:Easy car parking. Near the centre of town, and our room was quiet.
Review 43:Difficulty reaching taps to run bath/shower.Coldwater tap not running properly.Underside of lavatory not clean. Clothing left in drawer from previous resident. Loud music till 12.30am
Review 44:Local to town. Nice and warm. Tasty Breakfast. Pleasant and helpful staff. Provision of Bible
Review 45:Wood bedstead in limited space a hazard. Limited choice for continental breakfast i.e. no fresh fruit. no plain yoghurt. no bread/rolls. no butter. no cut meat/cheese.
Review 46:Warm comfortable room. Choice of main course at breakfast.
Review 47:Towels weren't changed after our first night, but were left damp in the bath. They were changed the second day when we asked. The noise (loud music) from the bar kept us awake until the early hours on Friday and Saturday nights.
Review 48:Great location, good breakfast, friendly staff.
Review 49:The mould round the window ledge in my room and round the bath and shower taps in the very small bathroom which had only a very tiny shelf on which to place anything. When I arrived on a Monday the stairs were covered in bits and litter which was still there when I left on Wednesday. The bed was clean and comfortable but the tired décor in the room desperately needs a lick of paint to lighten it up.
Review 50:The cooked full English Breakfast was excellent, It is available to non-residents in the bar area of the adjacent pub.
Review 51:There was rather too much noise from the disco/entertainment onFriday & Saturday night.
Review 52:The room was comfortable. There was an excellent shower.
Review 53:The noise coming through the floor from the bar downstairs.(Thumping music until 12 30am which made sleep impossible.) Rooms need modernising - it took 10 mins to run a bath and the lights fused in our room when I switched side lamp on.
Review 54:The central location - near the cathedral. Comfortable bed.
Review 55:Coping with luggage up the stairs to the accommodation. Only a small gripe in an otherwise pleasurable stay.
Review 56:Proximity to Cathedral and shops. Spacious room with good bathroom. Good breakfast.
Review 57:Noisy doors closing, along the corridor and to the outside......could be lessened with damper pads
Review 58:breakfast was very good...cooked breakfast delicious, and great coffee. Staff very helpful, and welcoming
Review 59:This was ,in essence, a room above a pub -a very noisy pub -thudding loud music went on till 12.30. I got very little sleep only to be woken by a fire alarm at 7 15 (not the pub's fault) I had thought that ,by paying 95 pounds for a 'hotel' in picturesque Chicester I would give myself a lovely restful stay. I could not have been more wrong. Pleasant helpful staff -but vastly overpriced -a real rip off
Review 60:Location
Review 61:The location, easy access, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. The warm welcome we recieved when we checked in and the great service we received during our stay. ☺
Review 62:on arrival I had to manage my case up the stairs by myself.
Review 63:Any problem was sorted immediately by the manager. on leaving I had assistance with my case.
Review 64:Breakfast didnt start early enough for business people.
Review 65:Excellent location 5 mins from train stn & perfectly placed for exploring the quaint town of Chicheter. Would definately stay again although breakfast starts a little late for business users.
Review 66:The bed wasn't very comfortable and the room had no outlook. Stairs very difficult especially for my disabled husband.
Review 67:Very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 68:For those who a not too fond of English breakfast the variety of food was not too broad.
Review 69:Location is perfect, staff - nice and freindly. The room was spacious, clean and had everything a traveller might want.
Review 70:Room a bit dusty and peeling paint on bathroom ceiling a bit of tlc and this would be a 5/5 rating
Review 71:Location is excellent, room nicely decorated and furnished and lovely cooked breakfast reasonable rates enjoyed our stay and would return
Review 72:Bathroom- Dangerous bottom corner/wood bath--Catches Toenail Bed : Both bottom posts extrude & hit knees Metal springs of bed squeak on turning over Friday night noise from "Slug"
Review 73:Convenience of position to central area
Review 74:great from start to finish.x
Review 75:well,it's a big pub in the middle of the town, great location, own front door entrance, breakfast choice was great,we could see and hear the cathederal from the room. If you want to pick bones i'm sure you could but,my life is too short and this was a great weekend for me and the mrs on our anniversary.thanks.
Review 76:Laud music until 00:30, no personnel available for early check-out, despite having agreed on it
Review 77:Good location, near the city centre and the railway station
Review 78:Far to much noise from the bar at night even though we were at the back can't imagine what it would be like at the front
Review 79:Rooms a bit run down quite dull
Review 80:No meals served after 15.00. Unable to see out of the window, because of the patterned glass. No iron or comfortable chair in the room.
Review 81:Comfortable bed. Good shower.
Review 82:Dirty room with dust and damp carpet by the bed. It was noisy downstairs but did finish at 12.30 as advertised.
Review 83:Staff helpful and breakfast was excellent for the price
Review 84:The bar dominated the hotel and there was a steady beat to the disco below. (But not too bad - concrete floor.
Review 85:Excellent position in Chichester - with a view of the cathedral but only if you stood on a chair the lower windows were frosted. Good breakfast. Large TV to see England loose in the rugby.
Review 86:Staff appeared more chatty with other visitors similar to their age group rather than mine.
Review 87:Breakfast was delicious. Well cooked and a nice selection of cereals/yoghurt available as a side
Review 88:The pictures are deceiving. Everything is very tired and worn out and everywhere smells stale. On going into Room 10 for the first time we found pubic hairs on the bedspread and duvet!!! which also had a hole in it. Both of these could not have been cleaned or changed perhaps because we were only staying one night? and were also covered in black fluff. The corner bath/jacuzzi is badly damaged and was filthy as were the tiles. The paper /plaster above the bathroom door is coming off - the whole thing needs ripping out. I was looking forward to a hot bath with bubbles but my husband who is a plumber said I was NOT to use it as it was filthy through all the outlets. We would only rate this as a 1 not higher. If we could post pictures on here we would.
Review 89:Nice breakfast, friendly staff - included gluten free bread as requested.
Review 90:the whole stay was lovely. lovely food and friendly staff. the room was amazing very big and lovely big jacuzi bath . have already booked another trip this time for the weekend .
Review 91:We loved the location of the hotel, the friendliness and willingness to help. The rooms were superb and spacious. The room we were in was silent throughout the night making for a good nights sleep.
Review 92:Nor suitable for disbaled no lift steep stairs. Bed uncomfortable but this may be personal preference. Parking very costly and not mentioned on web site.
Review 93:Very friendly and helpful staff, wonderful location
Review 94:Right on a corner so traffic noise all night. Expensive car parking arrangements. Bed uncomfortable.
Review 95:Central location. Welcoming manager.breakfast good.
Review 96:Excellent value for money, well furnished comfortable room and bathroom. Good breakfast. Bit apprehensive about being over a bar with salsa, music nights etc, but the salsa class ended 10.30pm promptly. Noise might be a consideration at weekends but no problem in week. Free overnight carpark at rear (ticket given upon checking in) and right in centre of Chichester. PS Prior to 6pm park in Basin Carpark - 3 mins walk.
Review 97:Lovely friendly staff. Great accommodation. Our room was exceptionally big including the bathroom. Location right in the middle of the city. Breakfast was very good. We would definitely recommend and would stay again.
Review 98:The generator/chiller noise was apparent at night from our room - but it didn't stop us sleeping soundly!
Review 99:We loved the room we were given! Spa bath in the bathroom was fantastic! As was the size of the room (no.11) - the staff were very helpful and friendly. Everything was within easy walking distance from The Vestry. All in all, a delightful stay. Thank you
Review 100:Not really suitable for those with mobility problems, due to having no lift to the rooms. Parking charges during the daytime.
Review 101:Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.Free overnight parking using the voucher issued by The Vestry.
Review 102:Could here music from the bar at 11.15pm when in bed but not really loud, that tired soon fell asleep, but it is a bar.
Review 103:The room was very big and very well set out.the bed were verycomfortuble and the bathroom was very clean with a good shower.Travelall over the uk , and stay in many hotels and this hotel comes near thetop for value for money and its location is fantastic. There is awheatherspoons pub up the road. All in all it was a very pleasent stayand when in the area I will visit again.
Review 104:Loose double socket in room, coming off the wall. Uncomfortable mattress (sagging in the middle) filthy window frame.
Review 105:The friendly staff and a great breakfast both of which are excellent. Bedding and towels spotless.
Review 106:The pub had a very loud disco on the Saturday which we knew about when we hooked. But it so loud and went on till 1am the police were called and lots of drunk people swearing outside. Definitely wouldn't stay there again if we visited Chichester!!!
Review 107:The staff were delightful, going out of their way to be helpful. The bed was huge and very comfortable. We had an upgraded room with a fabulous Jacuzzi bath. Breakfast was made fresh for each diner, no buffet.
Review 108:Steep staircase to bedrooms. Difficulty finding carpark (no instructions supplied when booking). Having to pay for carpark until 6pm and after 10am. General dinginess of hotel and bar/lounge. Very little fruit at breakfast.
Review 109:Helpfulness of staff. Friendliness of staff. Convenient for town and theatre.
Review 110:Location very difficult to find in pedestrianised street It does not say this. Parking a problem no clear instructions on how to find parking.Breakfast too greasy and coffee cold.
Review 111:Nice staff.
Review 112:Breakfast only a choice of grapefruit as fresh fruit, no cereal I could consume. Noise at night - website quotes live music, it was very loud disco, not live band, language of cliental not great. Webiste also gives the impression that food is served all day, it stops at 3pm, overall very expensive for one night at £95 per room when one of our rooms was just for my mother, still charged same rate
Review 113:Staff we very obliging and friendly, gluten free bread had been catered for at breakfast time
Review 114:I felt it would have been better to explain the location of the car park in relation to the hotel. New to Chichester and "mature" we took ages to find it, the "pedestrian precinct" threw us completely. We felt paying extra because of the description of the De Luxe Bedroom was a bit unfair. The hot tub/Jacuzzi had a split side and the shower was a health & safety nightmare. The bedroom window had frosted glass which was a bit disappointing even if it did overlook the car park. We could have chosen to keep the curtains closed ourselves.
Review 115:Very comfortable bed. Location idea for walking to Chichester Festival Theatre and great shops. Thanks for overnight car parking permit.
Review 116:Although it is mentioned on the website, you cannot appreciate the noise coming from the bar until midnight. It meant sitting in our own room was uncomfortable and the sitting in the bar was a non-starter. This property is not suitable for anyone who does not like the incessant heavy throbbing beat of rock music until after most normal people are considering sleep
Review 117:Central location
Review 118:What a huge, comfortable room! Helpful staff. Left in peace during stay. Would love to stay here again but fully booked for Chichester theatre period. Loved it!
Review 119:The location in town is excellent and the free parking within a few yards of the Vestry was very convenient. The room was spacious and clean and the breakfast fine.
Review 120:We've stayed here a number of times when we come up for the Chichester Festival. We always like it; find it easy and comfortable; nice breakfast; good location for rail, town and Palant; and very good value. One catch: don't choose a night when the music is loud! So fare we have not had this problem that others speak about.
Review 121:Place holds very loud, busy music nights on Fri and sat nights as does the place opposite. Whilst room was somewhat sound-proofed from its own music , we were disturbed by music opposite. Also had to pass the long queues of teenagers queuing to get in.
Review 122:Excellent location for town restaurants etc. staff very pleasant and breakfast really good.
Review 123:It was a lovely place and we stayed in room 9 which was huge! and great value for money. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was great.
Review 124:Not easy to find. Should have said no parking on site and that there were very steep stairs to climb to the residents accommodation. The room could have been cleaner, needed a thorough clean and dusting. Asked if room was quiet, said it was but in fact was noisy.
Review 125:Good location and value for money. Breakfast was freshly made.
Review 126:The cleanliness of the room should have been a lot better.
Review 127:The Staff , especially the Manageress were lovely and very attentive, got offered a free beverage as we had to wait a few minutes for our room to be ready. Breakfast had a good choice of cerials, Yogurt and Fruit, followed by a choice of cooked options.
Review 128:Thought it was rather a peculiar place - not terribly appealing. Staff very nice, but wouldn't go there again. Didn't realise it was so much a pub. The two bouncers at the door in the evening gave us the clue.
Review 129:A few areas of wear and tear that needed attention - and the jacuzzi bath could have been flushed out prior to use (a few black bits came out upon turning on the jets)
Review 130:We loved the size of bed and using the jacuzzi bath- lovely and relaxing. The breakfast was also very good.
Review 131:There is entertainment offered some nights and if you enjoy such sessions, you will enjoy the nights but we were not that keen about the noise level.
Review 132:The landlady was most apologetic regarding the noise as a result of the entertainment going on till rather late.
