Reviews for Somerville Hotel

Review 1:En Suite shower was out of service.

Review 2:Warm and friendly owners/staff Fabulous view of the shore/sea from huge Bay Windows. Traditional atmosphere, good breakfast!

Review 3:Lamplight outside in street it even lit up thr bedroom when the curtains were drawn

Review 4:The room was bright and cheerfull. Bed eas very comfortable.good breakfast.

Review 5:Very friendly couple running this hotel. Took an interest in us and our time in Margate. Particularly enjoyed the breakfast, which was included in the (very) reasonable price.

Review 6:The location, view and the lovely couple who own and run the hotel are the main attractions! It is just a short block from the train station and overlooks the ocean. Kim cooks a great breakfast served in the downstairs dining room by Teresa. On the ground floor is a wonderful sitting room with ocean views and is furnished with very comfortable overstuffed leather couches.

Review 7:Could have done with more than two teabags. Glasses for water would be helpful in the bedroom. Toiletries should be in the bathroom without having to ask.

Review 8:Just beside train station. Very nice couple running it. Breakfast was delicious. Lovely sitting room for relaxing.

Review 9:The breakfast was plentjful but because food was pre ordered and cooked in advance the bacon suffered by being kept hot. No lift available and as I have arthritis found all the stairs very hard also I was told that windows are about to be double glazed. A necessity ad on a busy main road.

Review 10:Friendliness of the owners nothing was too much trouble. The fact that it overlooked the sea was a plus and also near the station. My whole 3 days stay was mainly enjoyable. Beautiful sitting room so no need to sit in my room. Loved the fact that I had en suite facilities.

Review 11:It's a really nice and comfortable place to be, they are both friendly and nice. The rooms are so nice and feels so like home and warm. If I go there again I will book it again for sure!!

Review 12:Wi-Fi unpredictable and breakfast a little limited of choice and a little bit dry. No where to put your clothes etc in the bathroom. Could do with a small chair maybe.

Review 13:Owners very helpful and absolutely nothing to much trouble if you need anything from them. Very nice hosts No problems with using a shared bath room and house very clean. We would definitely stay here again.

Review 14:The wifi didn't work and we weren't offered any help with it. The toilet was really far from the room. It wasn't value for money at all.

Review 15:This is situated in a good place and the couple who own the guest house are very helpful and welcoming. Room was very clean.

Review 16:The bed creaks, even if you just turn in your sleep.

Review 17:The common chill area is very nice in this hotel. And the breakfast is typical English, very decent and good. Very very friendly staff! Felt like a stay at my aunt or uncle :]

Review 18:Lovely hostess,Teresa knew I had to be at my course early and arranged for me to have breakfast a little earlier. The breakfast was very tasty freshly cooked and hot every day. My room was more than adequate, cleaned every day as was the bathroom. Would definitely stay again !

Review 19:Breakfast window very tight (8:30 to 9:00). Wif-Fi was inconsistent

Review 20:Very pleasant couple who are customer focussed. Excellent location if on a main road. Food was very good.

Review 21:En suite room too small, Hand basin area confined.unsuitable for a big person. Breakfast time of half an hour too short.

Review 22:Location, near the beach. Very friendly owners who were helpful.View of the sunset from lounge area. Good wi fi. Very clean room. Lots of privacy.

Review 23:My bed was not very comfortable, it seemed to slope to the right and wasn't very supportive. I suppose it depends what people are used to.

Review 24:The hotel is very close to the beach and the railway station. Margate old town is a ten minute walk. Teresa and Kim are a friendly couple and very helpful. The breakfast was tasty and great value. At first I didn't like the idea that there was such an early breakfast time in such a short interval but it got us up and about and we managed to pack a lot into our short holiday.

Review 25:Very squeaky bed -- every move is heard, annoying. Very little bathroom. Early breakfast for holiday (8:30 to 9:00). No credit card payment.

Review 26:Nice and helpful people. Very close to train station and sea promenade, quick access to beach / Dreamland / old town / high street etc. Clean.

Review 27:Just 100 yards from the station with a perfect position close to the front and the old town. Perfect for visiting the Turner Contemporary Gallery and even closer to Dreamworld.

Review 28:Not really suitable for people with mobility problems as there is no lift.

Review 29:Kim & Teresa were warm and welcoming. Hotel is located a short walk from the station and is clean and tidy. Choice of full English breakfast or continental.

Review 30:Just the couple in the next room who seemed to be arguing every night, loud music.

Review 31:I liked the Faulty Towers experience, the location was facing the sea, with a view of the whole area from just across the road, fairly quiet location, Kim and Theresa were very welcoming and friendly throughout the stay. Guest house was clean from top to bottom, and the breakfast was fantastic.

Review 32:No bad experience but Turner Gallery is closed on Mondays which was my only chance to visit. no fault of the hotel

Review 33:Made very welcome on arrival, hosts very friendly Breakfast was excellent would certainly book here again .

Review 34:Very old-fashioned decor, fixtures & fittings. Limited facilities and only half an hour time window for breakfast. Lack of breakfast range.

Review 35:Very warm and friendly welcome & chats with owner, nice guest lounge, great location. Nicely cooked breakfast.

Review 36:The bed was very creaky indeed and the room was somewhat small.

Review 37:The owners were lovely, welcoming and very helpful. The hotel is spotlessly clean and well kept.

Review 38:very dated décor and tiny room. wifi was dreadful in the room. breakfast was provided without asking for specific requirements and I ended up with an omelette rather than a fried egg. This could have been avoided. check out time of 10am seems very early.

Review 39:Excellent location near the beach

Review 40:We could not complain about anything.

Review 41:We travelled by train from London to Margate, the hotel is 1 minute walk from the station. The room was newly renovated. Very clean hotel. Most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept on. We enjoyed the breakfasts. We will definitely stay there again.

Review 42:The shower had to be turned on and off outside the shower as it did not work. No aircon or fan. Rooms need an upgrade. Expensive for what you got.

Review 43:Breakfast was good, staff friendly, location to train and town was good.

Review 44:lack of wholemeal/healthy choices at breakfast i.e. muesli, fruit, Weetabix, bran , wholemeal bread etc Should have checked that shower and basin tap were working properly.

Review 45:Hostess' willingness/ability to get wholemeal bread for next morning. Always friendly and helpful. Hotel very clean and smart.( inside ! ) Having subtitles available on my TV.

Review 46:We booked late and our room was at the top of the house with a shared bathroom. The beds were OK but not brilliant. Wifi was out of range. I think other rooms were probably better and we will try it again with longer notice.

Review 47:The host family - friendly and approachable Good breakfast Close to station and sea front Clean and reasonably comfortable

Review 48:Beds were a little soft. That was the only negative

Review 49:We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Kim and Theresa were fabulous hosts and made us feel welcome. They provided us with a great breakfast and gave us lots of ideas on where to go in town. The location was perfect. A great place to stay!

Review 50:- staff are so lovely, when I said the purpose of my trip they agreed to put rose petals on the bed which was arranged beautifully - best bed EVER!!!!!! - staff very attentive and remember what you like regarding breakfast and drinks etc

Review 51:Breakfast between 8.30 and 9 - I like to sleep in at weekends! Not much choice for breakfast only cereal fried breakfast and toast

Review 52:Very warm and friendly owners. Reasonable price

Review 53:The shower didn't work properly and was cold. The hand basin in room didn't have hot water. The toilet was a long way down the hall and was shared by other guests and didn't even have a sink. We would not stay here again!

Review 54:Kim and Teresa welcome you like long lost friends! They cook a mean full English to set you up for the day! Having the train station less than a minutes walk away is incredibly convenient for those of you traveling to margate by train or for those small jaunts to ramsgate, herne bay or whitstable! But car there is loads of free on street parking! Just get there early or lucky to get a spot and you're sorted! On top of this the famous margate beach is on the door step and also the star of a enjoyable 10k walk to Broadstairs....after you've enjoyed Margate's promenade, old town, beach and high street of course!

Review 55:Very small en-suite built into the room and the bed squeaked every time you moved (kept waking up from it). The full English breakfast seemed to be pre-prepared so little ability to request something different.

Review 56:Good location right on the sea front, but far enough away from the music from late night bars.

Review 57:Very seventies decoy bed uncomfàtble onsuit needs to be bigger and improving to be fair owners know this

Review 58:The people how own it great food great very clean good location

Review 59:The room was pretty small and the ensuite was tiny.

Review 88:What a lovely hotel, run by a lovely family. The room was just what we needed and a sea view too! We couldn't have got more central to Margate if we tried. Breakfast was fabulous and provided everything we needed in a lovely dining room. I particularly liked the guest room on the ground floor with a wonder sea view and a big tv too! We WILL be returning!
