Reviews for Apollo Hotel
Review 1:The room had seen better days. Bed so soft we were unable to move without disturbing our partner. A terrible nights sleep once you finally got to sleep. The soap holder in the bathroom had not been cleaned properly for a long time as scummy underneath and the shower was loose in the wall. Not in my opinion a 4* room, although the hotel itself was nice. Got the room at a bargain price but would not pay the full charge of £140+.
Review 2:Convenient location for our requirement that weekend.
Review 3:I asked for a vat recepit to be emailed to me and I'm yet to receive one. I stayed there several time for business purposes due to the location. The checking in/out is not flexible and the room was missing towel and tge bath mat. This is meant to be a 4* hotel.
Review 4:The location is great
Review 5:It's a bit shabby and if I had paid the full £140/night it would have been a rip off. Food and bar prices a bit on the high side. Frankly not for me.
Review 6:Not a lot apart from being adjacent to Basingstoke hospital. Convenient as a close family member was critically ill and in fact passed away while we were there.
Review 7:Hotel was dated and tired. The free wifi was poor, and the service in the restaurant was terrible, even when there were only six people in there.
Review 8:Location was great for the town centre and getting to the hotel.
Review 9:faeces in toilet on arrival, toilet would not flush and bath taps very very stiff, food served in bar was not good as a so called eaton mess had no merangue
Review 10:very little, not 4 star quality apart from breakfast
Review 11:The room was meant to be a 'superior' double but there was nothing superior about it! It was old, tired, dark, small and the bed felt about 30 years old. We found out on arrival that there was no food available neither in the bar or in the restaurant due to it being NYE!
Review 12:Spa facilities looked ok, bar area was clean and comfortable. The manager was excellent and due to negative comments mentioned he was very accommodating and we were able to get a refund on the room and went elsewhere.
Review 13:The complete mistake of booking two nights in your hotel Reception staffappalling - smiling beautifully throughout in their rudeness completedisinterest and inefficiency Room was not ready - booked months before!Had just travelled for hours then had to wait over an hour for beds tobe converted into twin - no relaxing for you two!! Wanted to use spafacilities and unwind before attending a big family event that eveningThere were no robes in the room asked reception staff for some was toldwe couldnt have any because we had not booked' a package' pleasenote we were in a supposidly 'superior room' ???! Then we weretold to use our bathroom towels as cover ups???!!?? Then we were told wecouldnt have robes in our room because 'people stole them' .Made to feel extremely uncomfortable felt insulted and quite shocked bythe treatment we received and this after only less than an hour ofarrival to what was planned to be a lovely break!!!!! Eventually giventwo robes ( please note no luxury there - old crusty towelling) Poolfacilities old and seedy Jacuzzi .... Foot and a half of suspect foulsmelling foam on top, volatile jets ... All I can say its a good job wehave a sense of humour. Asked reception staff could book taxis for us... Gave very clear instructions/ times addresses etc staff told usthey were happy to make booking and told us they had done it??? We wereleft stranded 10 miles from the hotel at an isolated wedding venue inthe countryside at midnight on a saturday night ... The taxi firm had norecord of any booking. I could carry on.... Out of date fused coffeesachets ( thank the lord we brought our own) Cheap bathroom products ...These days come on Breakfast management farcical ... Lets all queue andqueue and queue ... Nobody particularly impressed mediocre food And soon..... Room layout advice - move your dressingtable/mirror/hairdrying area!!!
Review 14:The room. Very comfortable and quiet. Although I did not use the facilities I could observe that they looked first class. The reception staff were very efficient and courteous.
Review 15:No heating in room when we arrived on Christmas Day, reported to reception and an electric radiator was send up. Poor breakfast service on Boxing Day, we cleared our own table and reset our table ourselves. Can understand the shortage of staff.
Review 16:Very nice room, friendly reception staff, good selection of breakfast food, all served nice and hot Quiet room,
Review 17:The staff were not helpful at all. I was with disabled people and whenasked if they can take my food order at the table at the bar I got toldno you have to come to the bar!The breakfast the were so miserable and again were no helpful. The spar treatment you pay for half an hour and I for 20 minutes as I checked my watch which I also queried. The hotel needs updating but I was told the owners are not interested in doing so much new management are coming in next hear
Review 18:The spacious upgraded room
Review 19:Front of house manager asking if I had slept in the room. Room was part of cleaning routine before 9 a.m. when check out is 11 a.m. Front desk staff miserable. No informaiotn about the leisure facilities on the front desk.
Review 20:local, good facilities, good size rooms. Bar and restaurant available.
Review 21:Everything else. Checking lengthy and arduous. Also they didn't take booking correctly at first and it had to be changed for yet more money and they put it in the other persons name and tried to bill me again. Poor system need improvement. No cards in bar - needs improvement - had to go to reception with a 20 minute wait to pay. Beds tiny and uncomfortable.. Rooms tiny. Paint peeling in places, Bathroom minute and water pressure temp of water all bad. Breakfast exceptionally poor quality and hardly warm. More people than tables - about 20 guests queuing to get in and take you table so also a pressurised experience. Often couldn't get into bar - too many events happening simultaneously. Not unlike Gard du Nord!
Review 22:The staff were for the most part very pleasant.
Review 23:Hotel is dated, creaky floorboards (wood structure?) and worn furniture. Toilet flushing badly, awkward...Nothing too important, but at upper range for price asked.
Review 24:Staff gave us a discount on breakfast buffet, very pleasant and value for money.
Review 25:The room was a little hot. So didn't sleep well.
Review 26:Room was beautifully furnished. I went to the Christmas party in one of the conference rooms and I thought the food was very good, although a big gap between first course and the main.I didn't stop for breakfast, as I went straight home.
Review 27:The hotel furniture and deco is outdated for a 4 star hotel albeit it still represents the functions required in such hotels.
Review 28:The location is peaceful and away from the hustle and bustle of Basingstoke city.
Review 29:Leisure is tired and need of updating. Asked for quiet room but was right next to road.
Review 30:Booked a double for double on line but told only for single use we arrived. Had to pay more by credit card. when went to bar later was told they hadn't swapped my card and had to pay for food and drinks.
Review 31:Length of time checking in - has been slow for many years and no improvement. No extra pillows as requested - rarely do get them Bedrooms could do with facelift Disabled parking is not monitored. Residents only car park required - front car park and rear car park for non residents or more entrances open say until 11pm
Review 32:Buffet breakfast always good Ease of booking on your website Fairly quiet Free use of pool
Review 33:Room had not been serviced fully. Not enough towels. No coffee tea milk or drinking water. No towels robes or slippers for spa.
Review 34:Staff very friendly!
Review 35:Not very clean, spa had no towels and got 2 hours sleep on the second night due to 2 very noisy young men in the next room even after calling down to reception.
Review 36:Nice size room and comfortable bed.
Review 37:2 People complained about children playing in reception area and Manager was quite stern. There were far more people in our party and in the bar area with children who were ok with it. Bath was not as clean as I would have liked Drinks expensive Breakfast area was a busy nightmare Cot not in room when we arrived as requested Long wait to check in
Review 38:Comfy bed Good food Nice bar area
Review 39:Small item but only one pillow per person suppied in bedroom.Other hotels give the option of an extra pillow that both my wife and I prefer. The price of the bottles of wine in the restraunt.
Review 40:Nice clean hotel friendly staff, also like the slightly classic decor as apposed to the modern"Ikea" style in some newer hotels. Liked the comfy chairs in the room.
Review 41:Bathroom in our room 112 was dirty. Floor needed a sweep and there was white powder on the front of the sink unit which we had to clean ourselves before we could use. Main room was cleaner and bed comfortable, however, old written notes from previous residents still in the bedside drawers. TV alarm was preset for 0800 hrs which was not what we required seeing as it was the first lay in for sometime (being the parents of two young boys). All in all disappointing.
Review 42:Breakfast was tasty.
Review 43:Breakfast and drinks at the bar are VERY expensive. Information regarding a cot not passed on by Booking.com or picked up by hotel so it wasn't ready and the room was very small.
Review 44:The service and food were of poor quality at dinner. The food was also over priced. We had to send the starter back as was cold and the dessert was sub standard and so returned. At breakfast our made to order omelette took 20 minutes and when we arrived the buffet was running short of multiple items which took at least 10 mins after I asked to be replenished. Up your game in the restaurant.
Review 45:Bedroom and facilities were good. Great pool.
Review 46:Rooms advertised as superior doubles, I think the hotel needs to look up the definition of superior in the dictionary, budget room at a push. We were given room 423 and when we opened the door we were met with a strong mouldy smell, dirty carpet, damaged furniture, chipped paintwork and the bedding looked dirty. Asked to change room and was moved next door which wasn't much better although it didn't smell as bad. Mattress was worn out and uncomfortable, the flat sheet over it didn't fit properly and I found hair underneath the corner of it. The whole room felt dirty (parts of the bathroom was dirty) and the radiator was on full so it was like a sauna. This nearly ruined our weekend, thankfully we managed to find another hotel in the area we could move to. This is not a 4* hotel, even breakfast was only average.
Review 47:We didn't like anything. We ended up having to book another hotel as the room was dreadful.
Review 48:We were told we would not need to book for supper at the restaurant but then when we went to the restaurant we were turned away as they were unable to attend to us. We did however manage to have a bar meal in the library bar.
Review 49:Convenient for Business near Basingstoke
Review 50:The food in the Brasserie was fairly over priced for rather average food really which was a shame as I felt it let the hotel down. The restaurant wasn't even a quarter full, which speaks volumes in itself. (wine was nice though!)
Review 51:Staff were great
Review 52:Greeted by manager who was quite bolshy at first as we had arrived earlier than check in. I was told several times check in was after 3pm. After several explanations that I realised check in was 3pm however I had just driven over 200 miles and had arrived a lot earlier than expected as the traffic had been unusually light.... She eventually backed off and allowed us to check in. Not what you want after driving over 200 miles!!!
Review 53:Location good Food ok
Review 54:When we arrived , we were told the room was for single occupancy , yet they agreed we had requested a twin room ! ! who want's a twin room for 1 person ! ! And so had to pay an extra £30 which was disappointing .
Review 55:Breakfast excellent , pool good ,
Review 56:Shower was broken.....hot water in bath shower was either too hot or too cold.....food available late at night was limited but at least there was something
Review 57:We liked the room itself seperate lounge etc was lovely.....I was supposed to stay after my wedding why the sofa bed was done up? I have no idea
Review 58:Room was rather small and very hot, on too noisy a road to have window open. Décor was very tired as well and taps had lots of limescale, damp patch by window as well
Review 59:staff were very friendly and helpful, food was also very good
Review 60:This is the third time we have stayed here. The last two times we have had to complain about cleanliness of the room. Breakfast has deteriorated in both standard of food and attitude of staff. We will not be staying here again!
Review 61:Near to family so location suits.
Review 62:the breakfast was a little uninspired but nice
Review 63:I love the feel of this hotel, it is clean and in a good location...I have stayed here a number of times
Review 64:Cleaning could be a little better and couple of renevation jobs requiring done but outstanding over all
Review 65:Brilliant location okay rooms slightly tired and need a little renevation small things like regrouting tiles spa waterfall not working but outstanding location price fa ilities couldnt haveasked for better we did have an absedorroom which was an extra £15 a night but was worth it we felt
Review 66:free night in different room would have been nice
Review 67:there was a noise coming from bathroom all night I hardly slept the bed was very uncomfortable needs taking out and burning , did inform front desk but nothing , I will not be staying there again and I will not recommend
Review 68:I was locked out of my room after breakfast which meant a log walk back to reception when I was on a tight time scale but receptionist quickly unblocked my card.
Review 69:Lovely pool with dim lights and hot tub comfortable hotel
Review 70:There was only 1 bar lady at some point which caused a little delay when I ordered for meals. But the front desk lady proactively sorted it out. Thanks.
Review 71:The staff were very helpful and assisted us with early check-in despite the short notice. Restaurant staff were wonderful.
Review 72:It's very close to a massive roundabout and if you're walking there you have to go a longer way which was 10 minutes more! However there is a number 5 bus which runs frequently to the town centre which stops opposite the hotel.
Review 73:Excellent hotel and and excellent staff, couldn't fault anything really, the bed was soft and massive one of the first hotels I've been in and they've supplied a bath and a shower! I'd defiantly recommend the ambassador suite! The pool was open late and the jacuzzi was amazing
Review 74:The rooms was dirty. Toilet didn't work. We booked a superior room but when we got there it looked like a standard room. To eat and drink in the hotel was expensive as it should have been a 2 or 3 star hotel. Looked ok until you got to your room.
Review 75:Nothing really.
Review 76:The bathroom extractor fan didn't work and we had to wait a while for someone to come separate the bed into two singles.
Review 77:Bed was comfy and staff were friendly
Review 78:Breakfast was nice and that's a bit it
Review 79:Bathroom not clean and bin not emptied. Bed not made corectley. I got gammon and egg. Egg not fried correctly still raw
Review 80:Bar snack distinctly average for price. WiFi cut out a couple of times for no apparent reason. Everything neat and tidy but think rooms could do with refurbishment now.
Review 81:Good location - comfortable hotel, staff friendly. Lots of facilities including gym.
Review 82:Bar closing time & bacon at breakfast not properly cooked (under-cooked and greasy). Breakfast hash browns also very greasy. Plates for cooked breakfast food far too hot to hold easily (apart from hands needing tissue to hold them, they almost boiled marmalade put on them from central dish provided. Plates need to be warm but not so hot they need help to hold them.
Review 83:Free parking, standard of rooms & room availability (for wedding guests) + easy access from trunk road.
Review 84:Drinks in the bar a bit over priced
Review 85:The staff were very helpful, would stay here again loved the pool and spa which was included, the room was nice and comfortable.
Review 86:the only improvement I could suggest would be the addition of hot chocolate sachets in the rooms as not everyone drinks tea and coffee but would still like a hot drink in the evenings.
Review 87:Myself and a friend stayed for one night in a twin ambassador room and it was a lovely experience, the room was a good size and was very clean. We particularly liked that there was a separate shower. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, we felt that they couldn't do enough for their guests. We also had a massage each at the spa, our therapist was Aga, who is apparently quite new, she was lovely and the massages were fabulous, a great end to a brilliant weekend!
Review 88:The bar was closed when we arrived at 12.30am even though we were told it would be open. The room itself smelt of sewage and the toilet handle was hanging off as we could not flush properly. We could not find any tea bags in our room either. We were not the only guests to have experienced the above either.
Review 89:Just the location.
Review 90:Seems the toilet is a little old and sometime you need try it several time to running it.
Review 91:Totally, the service is good and staff is friendly. Room is clean and the circumstance is comfortable.
Review 92:Could be cleaner, I'd say our room was adequately clean but certainly not spotless.
Review 93:Lovely hotel, about 20 minute walk into the town centre, really nice bar area and super comfy beds.
Review 94:We were travelling with a toddler and the room we had was perfectly suited for us, especially the separation of the rooms, to ensure our child can go to sleep earlier and not be disturbed by the TV.
Review 95:The fact that at 6am our television (unbeknown to us was set on timer) came on at full volumne, rudely awaking us up & the long wait at the check-in desk on our arrival
Review 96:Convenience if location
Review 97:Generally could do with refurbishment, staff not very attentive, and local knowledge non-existent
Review 98:leisure facilities very good, although not too clear who gets towels, who gets robes, and who gets neither.
Review 99:The breakfast was terrible we all complained as the croissants were burnt and there was nothing at the buffet. When asking for a manager we were told there isn't a manager to complain to. Also the bedroom was outside the wedding reception area so was kept up until12.30 am and also in the morning as people were under the window smoking at 7am Also my parents are disabled and they put their bedroom right at the end of the corridor on the 1st floor and couldn't move them. It took them 20 minutes to walk Down
Review 100:Nice looking hotel easy to park for my disabled parents
Review 101:We were kept awake by someone playing BBC 1 News channel loudly all night in room above. Called reception at @ 2am to complain and on second attept they managed to locate the noise and switch it off. Apparently a guest had fallen asleep with the TV on. Showers in men's changing room in Spa need upgrading. Got a good deal for the room but would not pay full price for it. Went out for supper as prices were expensive
Review 102:Good deal value for the room and stay but I would not pay full price for it. Staff were good, ample parking close to the hotel, room comfortable and good facilities. Used the sauna, steam room and swimming pool which could do with updating.
Review 103:£17 for 2 glasses of wine at the bar. There was no water , no shower, no toilet flushing for the whole of one morning.... Eventually sorted but no apology and reluctant to refund ( got £20 in the end) Staff couldn't care less!
Review 104:Beds and pillows very comfortable.
Review 105:Fire alarm at 23.30 - post evacuation procedure a bit chaotic and assembly point not easy to see in the dark. Suggest lighting and better signage
Review 106:Pleasant and efficient staff and good value for money
Review 107:water went off on second day bed settee not made up for grandson despite requesting twice little grubby in places
Review 108:very handy for where we needed to go and the breakfast was great
Review 109:Not sure it deserves a 4* rating. Decor on corridors and in room slightly shabby. Our room was described as a superior double - there was nothing superior about it - it was a standard double bed in an adequately sized room. Spa staff on Sunday am could have been a bit more friendly. We went for a swim and were given one towel each - one bath sized, one hand sized, when we asked if we could both a large towel we were told that was all they had (although people came in after us who had been given large towels!!). Just gave the impression that he couldn't be bothered
Review 110:Swimming pool and spa were good Breakfast was plentiful and hot
Review 111:Unfortunately we had no hot water for a shower in the morning and the steam room and showers in the gym were not working due to the same technical problem which was a shame. These things happen.
Review 112:Very courteous staff and quiet room with a comfortable bed.
Review 113:Disappointed that the "library room' which looked lovely was closed for a private function yet those guests used the bar area taking seats that hotel guests were unable to use. Seating was therefore restricted in both areas for hotel guests. Private functions should be in a separate part of the hotel. Afterall, we were paying guests and should have had access to that area that was usually open to the hotel guests. This is not a criticism but a suggestion. Also, the drinks were VERY expensive!
Review 114:Polite staff. Excellent food. Plenty of parking and a good location. Would recommend this hotel and would here stay again.
Review 115:Noise from water/boiler at night; road noise (Basingstoke road system creates noise); bed a bit too bouncy and duvet too hot; drink and bar food prices a bit high; water system broke down on morning of leaving so could not have bath or shower.
Review 116:Good value for money (ie 2 nights in studio suite) ; the pool; the breakfast; studio suite was good size for family of three.
Review 117:I didn't like the milk ring on the bedside table not been cleaned I didn't like housekeepimg knocking on my door just after 8 30 wanting to clean the room. I also wanted a tray of tea as I had company and the gentleman that answered the phone said I had tea making facilities which I knew but didn't want to use and after being made to feel a nuisance he agreed then phoned me back to ask me if I was willing to pay for it Which of course I was expecting to do but I must admit I need soimewhere to go every 4 weeks as my mother is in care down there and I don't think I would stay there again.
Review 118:Comfortable Bed Reasonable size room
Review 119:No air conditioning and it was warm, a small fan was provided. Room was too small. Double bed was quite small, specially with a 6 months old baby
Review 120:Cleanliness, staff attitude
Review 121:This Hotel needs a refurb. The room was small and cluttered and extremely hot. Cleanliness could be alot better. If you like to sit outside like I do then the Staff need to make sure the outside area tables are cleared and cleaned.
Review 122:We liked the location.
Review 123:When we arrived, we were given the wrong room, the shower in the 2nd room was slow to drain, food at the hotel very expensive, so we ate out, door slams shut, people making noise outside our room, no air con
Review 124:Very clean, facilities and massages were amazing
Review 125:Tasteless tomatoes at breakfast
Review 126:We were upgraded to a suite and would now only book this. The bed was sooooo comfortable. It was my cousins wedding and it made a great weekend amazing
Review 127:the pool facilities were too small and very busy, couldn't get near the Jacuzzi or steam rooms, maybe implement a booking system for use of these facilities. Rooms could do with a refurbish, quite out dated
Review 128:We were given a free upgrade to a studio room which made our stay a lot better - thank you!
Review 129:I was kept up until 12.15 am with a wedding going on outside my room and people smoking outside my window. No one warned me when I checked in. Again. 7am was woken from people. My parents who are disabled where put in a room right at the end of a corridor so it wAs so hard for them to walk down to the lobby. The breakfast the ham was dry and croissants completely burnt. A guest picked them up to show a manger but was told there is no restaurant manager
Review 130:That it was near my location I was here for and easy to park
Review 131:Perhaps a strange comment but beds were too soft.
Review 132:Location was excellent as we were meeting friends. We had an enjoyable dinner but were disappointed that they chose that evening to repair air conditioning in restaurant
Review 133:Only a small gripe that the internet dropped out quite often.
Review 134:Absolutely fantastic stay. The whole service was fantastic. Even the beds had memory foam toppers on.
Review 135:The breakfast was average and quite pricey we thought
Review 136:We got a great last minute rate 48gbp and it was a very pleasant stay with excellent facilities. To stay another night the rate jumped to 210gbp !
Review 137:Food for dinner was good but expensive for what was offered. Did not have dessert which was very expensive. Hot egs for breakfast very average.
Review 138:Large bedroom and helpful staff.
Review 139:Saying we had to pay for breakfast when in fact it was included in the price when we booked. It was checked and an apology was made but when we went for our breakfast in the morning we were again told that we were not included on the breakfast list. Apology made again.
Review 140:We stayed on the top floor in a studio which in the bedroom does not have a window in it, so on a hot night it was roasting too hot to sleep
Review 141:The staff were pleasant, the hotel was clean and tidy
Review 142:food was of a good standard, well presented but extremely overpriced as were the drinks
Review 143:overall cleanliness, welcoming atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff
Review 144:Noting. I liked everything about the hotel and the staff there was nothing to dislike about anything.
Review 145:I loved the gym the swimming pool the steam room and the sauna. the nice people and staff was amazing. and the comfort in the atmosphere was brilliant I could not ask for anything more thank you.
