Reviews for The Bay
Review 1:The parking was a bit difficult, especially when we arrived in the rain, as we had to park some way away from the venue. We did move the car to a space outside the venue when it became available. The traffic noise was a bit of a nuisance, but then we had looked at other accomodation along the same road, and most apologised for this . The room could do with slightly heavier curtains to blank out a neon sign board advertising events in the Winter Gardens opposite.
Review 2:The provision of drinking chocolate on the drinks tray in our room. Being a retired Trinity House Deep Sea Pilot, I was impressed with the view from the room, and felt that I should have brought my binoculars to see which container ship was anchored in the Tongue anchorage! We particularly liked the two armchairs placed in front of the window to enjoy the view!
Review 3:I can't say there was anything we didn't like.
Review 4:We love staying at The Bay as the location is excellent. We love being able to walk in to the Old Town or to Turner Contemporary or our favourite restaurant, The Ambrette. We have stayed twice and both times have had a beautiful view across the sea. The breakfasts are excellent and the owners are lovely - very warm and relaxed which makes for a really enjoyable stay.
Review 5:The outside of the building needs some work but the inside make up for it
Review 6:The room was nice & clean the owner were happy to help the beach was cross the road WiFi in the room a great stay
Review 7:Bit strange that breakfast was at a fixed time. Also I would have preferred a later check-out.
Review 8:Great location right on the seafront, close to the Turner gallery and Old Town. Funky decor in room. Clean and without any musty smell. Friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast. Excellent value.
Review 9:Good communications, Friendly greeting, due to on-going work to room booked I was upgraded to a double room with en-suite at no extra cost. All was very clean and bed comfortable. Breakfast was also very good and set in a nice atmosphere. Highly Recommended.
Review 10:It was a very windy night and one of the two room's windows has a slot that enabled the wind to enter and it was quite chilly as well as noisy.
Review 11:The view from the room was amazing, the position was comfortable. I also liked the breakfast.
Review 12:Nothing too bad. Needs a little TLC. Water for shower was a trickle could do with small shelf in shower to put things on. Hot tap on sink would not turn off and was loose
Review 13:Lovely sea view good size room great breakfast free WiFi helpful and friendly staff location good Would stay here. Again
Review 14:Enjoyed everything about The Bay Hotel.
Review 15:A warm welcome. Great atmosphere. The staff member's were very laid back to which I like made myself and my guest feel relaxed. Will definitely recommend to others and would definitely stay again.
Review 16:Small room with view of grim backyard and everywhere shabby in places but wasn't expecting the Ritz for £55!
Review 17:Great location to visit the Winter Gardens (a few steps over the road) and an excellent restaurant 2 doors down! Easy walk into town.
Review 18:The room could do with a lick of paint but otherwise very comfortable and fantastic view
Review 19:The owner, staff, location and breakfast were great! Amazing value for money too.
Review 20:Not a bad word to say about the place. Fantastic, would recommend it to anybody and everyone.
Review 21:It is an absolute fantastic place to stay and the landlady, Hannah, is a joy to be around....such an honour to stay in her establishment....lovely lady x
Review 22:Nothing I didn't like!
Review 23:Bed was so comfortable. The staff were amazing, especially the cook. Lovely little breakfast. Nice little room and not far away from Dreamland at all. It really was amazing value for money
Review 24:Not 1 single fault!
Review 25:The perfect place to stay for an event at winter gardens, a 5 second walk! The staff were the friendliest in any hotel/b&b I've stayed in, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was very comfortable and fantastic value for money, I definitely will be staying here when I come to margate again and would certainly recommend to others.
Review 26:Gorgeous location and lovely staff who couldn't do enough to make our stay perfect - including bringing us breakfast in bed when we were too hungover after a wedding to get up!
Review 27:There was nothing to complain about.
Review 28:I was pleased to see my room arranged in a good taste and nice style. It was clean and tidy with all facilities in place. In dining room the tables were always full covered with good food. Cooked full English breakfast was very nice. And the owner of The Bay is the most friendly and kindest person I have ever met. She was always very helpful and polite. She makes this place to be a very relaxing and perfect place to stay in only for a weekend or longer time of your holiday. I would highly recommend The Bay as a place to stay in Margate.
Review 29:Just some minor decoration would really make a difference. Being a bit picky as was only £55 per night Inc breakfast.
Review 30:We were after a cheap and cheerful B&B to rest our weary heads after our friends wedding. Staff were very friendly, room was as expected for the budget we'd set and had a lovely Seaview. Breakfast was very nice too. Would recommend for those on a budget. We'd stay again.
Review 31:Nothing. If you need more style and plushness, pay more and go elsewhere!
Review 32:Only booked a single room with a shared bathroom, but got upgraded to a double en-suite, so I got very good value. It looked out over the Winter Gardens and the sea, which was fantastic. It's all pretty basic but you've got everything you need, the breakfast is decent and the location is excellent.
Review 33:- The location, while good in that it is near the sea, is a bit far from the town centre and the station, especially when it was a quiet weekend when we visited. It's not a bad location but it made us hesitant to stay out late. - The building is old and the windows are not double-glaced so the noise from the street can be loud at night. Still, the hospitality more than makes up for it and we would stay here again. It's great value for money.
Review 34:The staff were friendly, welcoming and happy to answer questions about things to do. The included breakfast was generous and in a lovely room. We requested a room with the sea view and it was great, plenty of space and has a good panoramic view of the sea.
Review 35:Great location right near the sea front, close to pubs and the winter gardens venue. Room was very spacious and got upgraded so had a en suite which was a bonus. Breakfast was good too. Really great B&B great value for money, staff very welcoming and superb location.
Review 36:The property is in need of repair. On the busy road, no double glazing so sleep almost impossible. Tiny bathroom and in need of a revamp. Breakfast was ok but along with the room, not worth the money paid.
Review 37:The owner is so friendly, kind and welcoming. Our room was huge but furniture all wobbly and in need of a revamp.
Review 38:The shower wasn't very powerful and had to park in nearby car park
Review 39:Free upgrade to a double, ensuite. Friendly and helpful staff. Delicious breakfast with lovely view of the seafront from the breakfast room
Review 40:Nearly a mile from the station, much of it uphill.
Review 41:Extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Very comfortable bed. Great breakfast. Lovely view over the Winter Gardens to the sea. Very good value for money
Review 42:The owner Hannah is amazingly hospitable and friendly. She specifically bought me yogurt to have at breakfast as I don't eat cooked breakfasts. I mentioned a small issue with the shower and it was sorted straight away. The dining room and our room were both newly decorated and looked gorgeous. The room was quiet and comfortable. We love the location, it's not too far from the station but out of the way and quiet. Also has a beautiful sea view.
Review 43:The street in front of the window was quite busy with all the passing traffic.
Review 44:Hannah was the best host I have ever experienced: communicative, caring, friendly. Her breakfast was extraordinary and super delicious. The view from our window onto the sea was gorgeous.
Review 45:Room wasn't thoroughly clean (windows, window sills etc) but still comfortable
Review 46:Although it was small the room was comfortable and the bed and bedding was very comfortable.
Review 47:Sheets on the bed were satin: bit slippy and slidey. No soap provided. Windows didn't close too well. Next to the Winter Gardens and a funfare so can get a little noisy at times.
Review 48:The owner was very friendly and helpful. Overall on the budget we were on it was really good. Great views over the water. Would go back.
Review 49:Road noise was bad as it was road side, shower head pressure low, but we were provided a discount because of this.
Review 50:Friendly Staff, view from the room, proximity to places to eat.
Review 51:Hannah bought yogurt especially for me for breakfast, she is very kind and welcoming. You feel very looked after! Lovely decor too. Nice quiet location close to the city.
Review 52:The Breakfast room itself was too small really..maybe a staggered time would be best as felt too close an there was extension cables which worried us a bit
Review 53:We loved The Bay it was very homely and as soon as you walked in you felt welcome. Hannah changed our room as I have asthma an bad circulation an we was given the best room which was great as was our mini honeymoon, The breakfast was lovely and Franchesca was very helpful. We loved our room could hear the sea.
Review 54:If I go back to Margate, this is definetely where I am staying...not only for the affordable price but for the overall experience: location is great, the breakfast is delicious and very complete, but the best part is the amazing service offered! BTW, if you can get a room with a view, the location is even better because you have a balcony and the sea right outside your window!
Review 55:It was good for anyone on a budget, being about the same price as the hostel but better value as it included breakfast and the privacy of your own room. It was quiet, comfortable, the breakfast was very good with quick polite efficient table service.
Review 56:Glad to hear that Thanet Council is trying to clamp down on litter.. keep at it please.
Review 57:Right on the seafront, across from the beach, the Viking Coastal trail and Cliftonville promenade walks. Just a short walk to Old Town and Turner Contemporary. Wonderful first floor double bay windowed room overlooking the sea, with en suite. Lovely, helpful hosts and interesting guests to chat with.
Review 58:Parking an issue as limited spaces.
Review 59:Hannah goes out of her way to please. Her breakfast was lovely, the room was very clean and the bed so comfortable.
Review 60:Was upgraded as single room not available so enjoyed a large double ensuite with two windows overlooking the sea. Breakfast was made to order and staff all very friendly.
Review 61:The room we stayed in number nine was a large room, obviously two rooms knocked in to one. The decoration was shoddy, with woodchip on one ceiling and not on the other. The bathroom door would not close and the white bathroom tiles needed to be replaced, as the were numerous holes in them! Double glazing would keep out the noise from the road. No parking. New towels required.
Review 62:Heating, tea, coffee and hot chocolate plus biscuits. Pleasant people, you just need to get a good decorator.
Review 63:we were booked to stay 2 nights longer but in the end the room wasn't ready & would smell of paint for some days anyway! not possible to open the windows it was cold! breakfast on day 2 was with cold tomatoes direct from a tin can such a pity because day before was great! we were told at 945-10 that we'd have to empty the room at 1030 in a hurry, while we were going to stay 2 more nights as per the original plan! no room cleaning / bed making until the day you've checked out. we had to ask for new towels. i must say that the owners are really kind & gentle and that somewhat compensates the problems we faced, but i would sincerely recommend to improve these things in future!!
Review 64:a big smile of the owners & brought tea to the room on arrival, gave us their backyard parking space! great location few min walk from center & beach, sea view from room, quiet neighbourhood, first day breakfast was well prepared & delicious
Review 65:If i have to put something, the decor could be freshened up, but this certainly did not have any bearing on our wonderful stay.
Review 66:Beautiful sea-view, Hannah, Steve and Dave made us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We didn't want to come home. Thank you Francesca for my Birthday cake it was very sweet of you and very yummy!! We will recommend and return.
Review 67:I don't think the wifi signal from the router reaches the room on the top floor but it might have just been my phone not connecting
Review 68:the landlady was so nice, I came in soaked from the rain and she offered to put my coat in the tumble drier! I had a lovely stay, was made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was good, would definitely recommend staying here.
Review 69:in my single room the television didnt work too well i really liked that they changed me to a room that the tele did work very well and they made me very happy
Review 70:Unfortunatley the breakfast wasn't great. The area wasn't great either. Once you were away from the area, it became enjoyable
Review 71:Hanna was lovely and very friendly. The hotel was clean and the bed was comfortable.
Review 72:I had no en-suite bathroom but I had a basin in my room. and I could not expect more considering the price I paid
Review 73:A personal favourite is having a table in the room to work at. Wifi reception was fine. Spotlessly clean.
Review 74:Amazing value for money, ask for room 6- the biggest and best room of the house, lovely bright room with big windows and lovely sea view. The owners very lovely and helpful- customer service was top notch- would definitely recommend!
Review 75:The owners were friendly and very hospitable. They took a lot of trouble to make me feel at home. I felt that they would meet any requirements with no problem at all.
Review 76:We had a very large comfortable room where we could lie in bed watching the sea. The owners were very friendly and warm and the location was perfect. A proper family run B&B.
Review 77:The odd stain/mark here and there, but for the price who cares!!!
Review 78:Very pleased with our stay. The price is fantastic and includes breakfast! It was much cheaper than a lot of the other places to stay in the area, which meant we had more left over to do bits and pieces in and around Margate. We are pretty easy going and realistic about what you get for your money. The room was big, had a good view of the sea, the bed was comfy, there was reliable wifi and the tea/coffee were generously replenished each day. The lady who runs the place and does the breakfast is so lovely and caring; she will accommodate you in whatever way she can. Would recommend as long are your not too precious about odd bits and pieces. We will definitely stay again.
Review 79:Breakfast...very poor actually. You find a glass of juice on the table, few small slices of apple and one of melon. English breakfast came withtin (!!) tomatoes and the worse scumbled eggs I ever had. They broughtus toast when we had almost finished the breaky..owners are lovely andhelpful this is just an objective description of the food. Room was alsoa bit cold but there was a portable heater which we could use
Review 80:Location clean
Review 81:Maybe could just do with some sort of a seal or draft excluder around the large windows in the big front bedroom to stop the draft coming through when windy!
Review 82:Hannah could not do enough for us and made us so welcome! Our room was lovely and spacious with a very comfortable bed and large seating area and 2 big windows overlooking the sea which was nice! Our friends room although at the back was very nicely decorated and cosy! Breakfast was delicious and they even had gluten free bread and cereal as I had mentioned we could not eat gluten! Altogether a lovely experience!
Review 83:I enjoyed everything about my stay at this guest house and can not think of anything that I didnt like.
Review 84:The breakfasts are delicious - very tasty. The staff go out of their way to make your stay excellent. The rooms are beautifully clean and comfortable
Review 85:Hannah and Steve were welcoming and helpful, eager to please without being overbearing. Really big room, nice and warm. Good sea view, we both enjoyed Breakfast !! will probably book again for future visits.
Review 86:It's a family owned small b&b with 7 rooms. Super friendly and helpful staff, great location by the beach/right in front of the Winter Garden. Worth the money.
Review 87:None really, the building is old and in need of some external cleaning and renovation.
Review 88:Hospitality awesome, very good location but still quiet. Room clean and well presented with neutral colours. Wifi was working with strong signal which some b&b's claim and yet don't provide. Will definitely be staying here again when dreamland is all open again.
Review 89:Did not have a problem
Review 90:Friendly owners, very helpful, room and facilities very kleen, breakfast excellent. only needed to stay one night, good value for money. Would stay there again.
Review 91:Considering the lateness of the booking and my limited needs there was nothing i didn't like
Review 92:Cheap !!! Superb staff response Kind and attentive human touch Excellent view Excellent food
Review 93:Had the most lovely stay at the Bay. Hannah was friendly, helpful and accommodating. The view from room 6 was great, the shower nice and hot and there was plenty of room to mooch about. Breakfast was tasty. 10 out of 10
Review 94:- Windows let cold air come in. - Some people may find the street noise as a bit annoying but we were fine with it. - Some rooms are not impeccably clean.
Review 95:- Great location with sea view - Great hospitality - Customised home made breakfast - Large rooms with two double and a single bed, armchairs, etc. - We thought Margate is an upcoming town with a little but nice old town and many pubs.
Review 96:If you stay on the seafront in December when its windy outside you have to put up with a bit of gale down the chimney and through the sash windows. That might be what was playing havoc with the wifi too - don't know if they have it from satellite or landline.
Review 97:They were kind enough to be open just before Christmas, and provided just what I needed on a my overnight in Margate. A nice little dish of fruit salad before the full English, and above-average toast. Thanks for having me.
Review 98:No parking, but we did manage to park outside so wasnt a problem
Review 99:Nice room, comfortable bed, Tea, coffee, hot chocolate provided. Lovely hot shower. Very welcoming staff. Wish I could have stayed longer.
Review 100:I was warmly welcomed by a lovely lady. I had the option of a hot chocolate drink rather than a caffeinated drink which was thoughtful. Breakfast was great; nice English breakfast with fresh fruits. They were willing to go the extra mile.
Review 101:The only downside is there is not much parking outside
Review 102:The staff were very friendly couldn't do enough for you I booked a single room but on arrival got a double which was lovely the shower was hot and the bed was very comfortable
Review 103:Could have been cleaner; the decor is quite tired.
Review 104:Location The hosts - coffee made for us on arrival Breakfast - tasty, hosts were very accommodating of all guest requests in the breakfast room
Review 105:Room was very small and decor tired, but for £50 it was fine.
Review 106:Good location and value for money. Extremely helpful owner. Good breakfast with fresh fruit. The coffee on arrival was very welcome.
Review 107:Attention to detail. Lots of minor superficial repairs necessary. Lock on doors were flimsy. Big hole beside the toilet which was covered with a towel. Big hole in the wall, covered, not very effectively with a picture. Other unsightly defects
Review 108:The owner was lovely, kind and helpful. The furnishing helped to cheer up the drab building. The breakfast was very nice.
Review 109:Only single glazed and as on a main road street noise was very intrusive through the night.
Review 110:Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was good and more was offered when you had finished.
Review 111:Nothing
Review 112:This was our first stay in a B&B and we were very impressed with it. The staff were very polite and extremely helpful. The location was away from the centre of Margate which we liked. Will definetely be staying there again.
Review 113:Overlooks the sea, got a huge room for a twin, double windows. Excellent breakfast from lovely hosts, no prob or hassle to store cycles and great price. Def stay again!
Review 114:- found not much possibilitys for dinner in the area - i was not sure how to contact the owner (i had a question that time) - room is just separated from the breakfast room with a thin wooden wall (it's a bit like a construktion area)
Review 115:- big, clean room - nice equipment in the room (like 1950's/60's) - warm welcome and good service - close to the ocean - supermarket not far away
Review 116:Great value for money. Amongst Margate's new crop of boutique hotels it's good to still be able to stay somewhere on a budget which is in a great location
Review 117:Location: adaptability - the owners up graded me and provided breakfast earlier than usual. Clearly the premises could do with some TLC but this is massively out weighed by superb value for money.
Review 118:only thing was my room on ground floor toilet was on 1st floor,
Review 119:close to town centre,on the seafront. very warm welcome owners very nice people nothing was to much trouble good breakfast good size room.
Review 120:In need of some modernisation. That said this guest house is very reasonably priced so if you want to pay double or treble you can do so elsewhere.
Review 121:Excellent location to walk to all the sights in Margate. This is a characterful and very reasonably priced guest house. At these prices you do not expect luxury but the rooms are clean and comfortable with plenty of tea and coffee provided. Steve and Hannah are very nice and helpful people. The breakfasts will keep you going for most of the day.
Review 122:Back yard could do with a tidy, not very nice to look on to, landing carpet could do with refreshing, but under circumstances (business is tough) very good
Review 123:Hannah was lovely, good cooked breakfast, and plenty of other cereals/fruit etc. Accomodated our family in rooms next to each other, nothing too much trouble
Review 124:The water pressure in the en-suite shower room was a tad low.
Review 125:An extremely warm and friendly welcome. The room was clean and tidy. Being opposite the Winter Gardens the location is excellent.
Review 126:It was a little dusty below the bed.
Review 127:Comfy bed and friendly owners. Breakfast was good and it's right by the sea, a short walk from the station and very close to a bus round to Broadstairs.
Review 128:This guesthouse was absolutely delightful. The owners are lovely, the quality of the room was fab, prices terrific for what you get. The breakfast was delicious, very generous and courteous to your needs. The seafront is literally outside the doorstep and it's one minute from the centre of Margate. Highly recommend and would stay there again with pleasure.
Review 129:Room shabby, furniture very tired, decor poor, windows kept together by layers of paint, crumpled stained sheet on bed, no hand wash, cobwebs, towels disgusting, shower falling off wall, unkempt bathroom floor, no parking, excessive extension leads being used to power lighting, noisy road. On arriving we had decided that we were not prepared to stay more than one night and found somewhere else to stay. Even for a value deal the standard of the property is not good enough.
Review 130:Proprietors very nice and I can only think this is the reason why the reviews of The Bay are so good. A mature couple left a review in May 14 which sums up exactly how I feel. Good quality bread used for toast. Nice view.
