Reviews for The Crown Inn
Review 1:This Hotel is a little Gem. The owners and staff are delightful and you could not ask for more on friendly service. All the rooms are excellent and the restaurant is a nice atmosphere with surprisingly good, tasty, well prepared food. The bar is also a welcoming bar and on a night with music you are bound to have one of the most please any evenings As a traveller who normally a stays in five star hotels across the country I can assure you this is a gem.
Review 2:Nothing.
Review 3:Helpful attentive staff, good food reasonably priced, my elderly parents couldn't speak highly enough about this place and they are VERY fussy! (Relieved daughter)
Review 4:As a solo lady traveller it was wonderful to be able to eat in the restaurant at night and not have to go elsewhere for a meal. The breakfast was just as good. And everything very clean in the food area.
Review 5:If I'm being picky....bulb missing to a bedside table, no battery in clock. But not anything major.
Review 6:Staff very welcoming, room very cosy and big, nicely furnished, lovely balcony (room 2). Food very nice, very tasty. Lovely location.
Review 7:We had stayed here a year or two ago, but the dinner and breakfast was not as good as expected. it was satisfactory, but we were looking to impress our guest diner, and it didn't happen. Menu choices were limited- no fillet steak Curry was far from authentic, pretty tasteless Breakfast poor quality & not as hearty as expected.
Review 8:Brill wine list. Warm hospitality
Review 9:Easy to book Made to feel very welcome on arrival and we were asked if we needed any help with our bags which we haven't had from some of the other places we have stayed recently. Facilities are excellent, very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was deleicious and again very attentive service.
Review 10:Pictures on Walls - dull and unimaginative. Not in keeping with otherwise excellent hotel. Recommend replacemement.
Review 11:Booking in attended to immediately - no waiting around. Welcoming staff at all levels. Assistance with luggage. Excellent Bedroom - Super bathroom. Everything worked. Top quality breakfast - better than some 4/5 star hotels.
Review 12:Great staff .could not be more help full and made you very welcome. food was very good .room was clean and had everything you needed. Booked a return.
Review 13:The only downside was an unpredictable wi-fi which would cut out at inconvenient moments. Somewhat difficult to get to if you don't have a car but well worth the effort.
Review 14:A lovely room (Room 1), spacious, with a balcony, and a large bathroom with separate shower and bath and many soaps and lotions. A first class breakfast with both continental and full cooked options. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful.
Review 15:only slight problem as being disabled was you had to access the lift outside not nice if raining this was the only drawback.
Review 16:Friendly and helpful staff room was large and spotlessly clean. loads of freebies shampoo to shoe cleaning even towelling robes for use, what you expect from a 4 to 5 star hotel. Food in restaurant was excellent and fair priced. Cooked breakfast was excellent and also plenty of alternatives. The room had a small balcony overlooking the common
Review 17:The breakfasts, especially the English berries, and the prompt service. The room was well appointed, clean and comfortable. We found the staff friendly and helpful. However, the kitchen door needed a good scrub.
Review 18:We found the room a little cold - it was a very unseasonable August Bank Hioliday!!
Review 19:It had character and a really good breakfast! It has a good position if you want to visit London.
Review 20:Breakfast was excellent, but we also took dinner at the hotel and that was much less successful - though the fish and chips was very good so not a total loss. The service was provided by a charmless, angry girl whose every look and word appeared to be an accusation. Bizarre but quite comical.
Review 21:Attractive building. Pleasant location. Peaceful and relaxed.
Review 22:For a pub/B&B, it was excellent value. Really friendly lady on reception (who also served breakfast) and good menu in the restaurant (really important as there was nowhere else in the vicinity to dine).
Review 23:We called prior to our stay and the bar sounded rowdy which made us regret booking the Inn. Also when we checked in we were surrounded by drinkers. Room 4 was noisy so we moved to room 7 which was fine. Pigeon skwarked from 6-7 am.
Review 24:The staff were very helpful!
Review 25:Parking a little limited , but possible in the street. Rooms a bit warm, though they do provide fans.
Review 26:Very quiet location, as if in the middle of the countryside. Lovely beer garden for warm summer nights. Comfortable, spacious room. Good evening food and delicious breakfast. Good value for money for London area. All in all, a great base for a London stay with a difference - yes it is in the suburbs, but very accessible for central London too.
Review 27:Not in any particular order but the staff, beer, accommodation and food were outstanding. Chislehurst station is a 10 minute walk from the pub and a 30 minute train journey from Picadilly via Charing Cross. Everything worked (shower and internet), was clean and the rooms meticulously prepared. The staff were polite, humerous and accommodating. There was, quite simply, nothing to criticise.
Review 28:Friendliness of staff, evening meal was great. We had an extra camp bed added to the room with no fuss. Did not have breakfast but they insisted we had a packed brunch instead. Location overlooking the common was brilliant. We may have had the best room (#1) but the bathroom was a sight to behold! Definitely going back.
Review 29:Light didn't work in bedroom ceiling however walk lights were all OK. Room was dark and the TV was very small. A flat screen larger TV needs to be mounted on the wall.
Review 30:We were impressed with the number of little extras. Ie shampoo, bis ultra with Tea/Coffee sewing kit and hair dryer etc. Nice powerful shower, but needed updating.
Review 31:Didn't like the fact that we booked a room with a balcony but couldn't use it because when we arrived the place was being refurbished on the outside.
Review 32:Lisa made our stay as she couldn't do enough to help us.
Review 33:No one advised there would be scaffolding out the front of the inn
Review 34:The lady that served breakfast (Lisa maybe?) on sat the 23rd was lovely and is def an asset to the company!!
Review 35:I dont think we can give a negative
Review 36:Huge room, victorian fireplace, small blacony, view of common, bathroom super, his and her sinks, roll top bath, spearate shower unit.
Review 37:The Crown Inn is located in a charming suburban village with some nice restaurants and pubs. Its a beautiful old 18th century classic with nicely decorated rooms. The bar and restaurant are also very nice and the food was lovely. What appeared to be a quite little village turned out not to be . Both mornings we were woken about 6:30 by traffic, school children shouting on their way to school, lots of barking dogs being walked on the green and this wasn't helped by having no double glazing on the room windows. Breakfast is only served 07:30 to 09:00 which is pretty early to get, we got there at 08:30 and then waited 45 minutes for breakast to arrive even though there were only eight others seated. Our room was poorly cleaned in the morning (didn't make the bed or even fold the towels) blue bleach in the toilet was the only evidence somebody had been in at all. On the second morning the cleaner tried to enter our room just after 08:30 without even knocking first.
Review 38:The Crown Inn is located in a charming suburban village with some nice restaurants and pubs. Its a beautiful old 18th century classic with nicely decorated rooms. The bar and restaurant are also very nice and the food was lovely.
Review 39:The breakfast was superb; three courses with a variety of hot breakfasts including fish and vegetarian dishes as well as traditional cooked breakfast. I asked for a small portion which I received but was told that I was welcome to more if I did not have enough. (Actually the smoked salmon and scrambled egg was delicious and just the right size for me).
Review 40:The table we had for breakfast left much to be desired it was like trying to eat in the middle of Oxford Street with constant traffic of people with brooms and buckets gong back and forth on a bouncing wooden floor so while trying to eat we were bouncing up and down. Not good at all. Our bill was also confusing with last nights drinks added on in the morning items!!
Review 41:The food compliments to the Chef our evening meal was first class. Breakfast was also excellent they could not have improved on it. Room was nice, clean and comfortable. It was also very quiet.
Review 42:The location sells this pub/hotel as it's in a leafy suburb of SE London. With the pub downstairs from the room, lovely food is available with ease.
Review 43:Just a couple of niggles. Toilet roll holder loose light over hand basin had cover missing and water stain on ceiling.
Review 44:Comfortable bed and clean room, good range of facilities.Excellent breakfast & friendly staff.
Review 45:Probably not first choice for a romantic weekend, but brilliant for the travelling businessman.
Review 46:Very friendly staff create an atmosphere where guests meet and enjoy good company. Such a contrast to the usual soulless business hotels that we all have to use most of the time. Live music, good food at fair prices, hearty breakfast.
Review 47:Extra touches in the room making it a bit more home from home. We would be happy to stay again if we were in the area. We had a meal too which was very nice
Review 48:Didn't like the room being so hot. Turned radiator off but still hot. There wasn't a window to open. ,only balcony doors which blew shut, so had a restless night
Review 49:It is supposed to be a non smoking room but on the balcony there were lots stubbed out cigarette ends! This should have been cleaned up before a new guest arrives along with the French doors having a clean! Other than that a lovely room!
Review 50:Lovely room with lovely view of the Green. Very large bathroom with a delux bath!
Review 51:smokers outside the pub were a little noisy but it was a pub on a Saturday night so it was expected. the radiator was either on or off it couldn't be turned down to low.
Review 52:staff were very polite and helpful. The room and washing facilities were beautifully clean and very comfortable apart from the heat from the radiator
Review 53:Squeaky bed woke us up when getting up for the toilet in the night.
Review 54:friendly, helpful people. Good food, comfortable clean room. Tea and coffee and shortbread very welcome. Lots of nice toiletries.
Review 55:We arrived with our son, his partner and our young grandson. The bar was packed and very noisy so I asked if we could sit in the adjoining empty dining room for half an hour as they wanted one quick drink before leaving. Despite it being empty and only 6pm, they refused, so we had to walk down to Bulls Head.
Review 56:Comfortable room and bed, good breakfast.
Review 57:no reserved parking for people staying, and difficult to park anywhere else.
Review 58:we loved the good feeling about the place and the friendliness of all the people.
Review 59:Website did not clarify that this B&B did not offer evening meals on Sunday evenings. We therefore had to go out for supper, but found an ok Indian Restaurant about 5 minutes walk away.
Review 60:Location overlooking the common . Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast offered a good choice but cooking and presentation a bit basic. . .
Review 61:Everything was perfect thanks to the lovely managers.
Review 62:The friendly welcome, efficient service, comfortable room with every convenience. This part of Chislehurst is an oasis in the middle of a busy area - great walking on the common, opposite a beautiful church and easy walk to railway station and bus service to nearby towns just around the corner.
Review 63:Getting caught up in the school run traffic on the narrow lane in front of the hotel. Worth hotel making guests aware so they can time when they leave to avoid the chaos (it really was!!)
Review 64:Staff very helpful, restaurant meals nice. Unusual choices on breakfast menu which was great.
Review 65:waitress at breakfast was fantastic and helpful but service from kitchen slow , (over 30 minutes for hot breakfasts to arrive when we were only people waiting) not such a big deal at weekend, but would be if going to work...
Review 66:rooms, friendly staff. pub meals, location
Review 67:Radiators were a bit gurgly during the night and I had a disturbed sleep and with the superb power showers you could hear the next rooms as well. I wish I could I spent more time in the bedroom to appreciate it!
Review 68:Comfortable, relaxing bedroom, pleasant bathroom, excellent power shower, attention to detail.
Review 69:The breakfast was disappointing. Very little choice of fruit and there wasn't any yogurt on the first morning
Review 70:The room was very comfortable and the staff were friendly.
Review 71:Upon arrival we had to go into the bar to check in. It was a busy Saturday night and it was too noisy in the bar. We had to carry our bags into the bar which was not very nice as the pub was packed. In the morning ohh no!!! The church bells went on and on for more than an hour so that disturbed our sleep
Review 72:The room was fairly clean and warm as well
Review 73:All the entrances to the hotel and bar were very basic and rather let the show down.
Review 74:All the staff were exceptionally friendly. Breakfast was a real treat with a wide range of choices. I had big breakfast one day and kippers the next. Both were excellent. Fish and chips in the evening was also excellent. The room was large and attractive with a small bay window with a view of the green (just) and all the usual accoutrements. The power of the shower was amazing. The flat screen TV was quite small but sufficient. The colour wa awful until I did a factory reset when it was fine. My only complaint was the loud noise from the bathroom extractor. All in all a good experience.
Review 75:Breakfast (and breakfast staff) were lovely, and the rooms and pub very comfortable and clean. Some nice detail in the bar decor, including a very interesting wine rack, plant shelf.
Review 76:Parking when the pub is open to the public can be limited. Would like to see residents only parking area.
Review 77:Food excellent. Accommodation very good. The staff were very friendly and very attentive.
Review 78:I thought the log fire in the bar could have done with being lit as it was decidedly chilly there on the Sunday night. Just a small matter but would have made the evening that much more enjoyable
Review 79:Great breakfast and a lovely room..one of the superior rooms. Comes with nice touches like towelling dressing gowns, complimentary bottled water, good quality toiletries etc. Staff are friendly.
Review 80:There really wasn't anything we didn't like...everything was to our expectations..
Review 81:Friendliness, breakfast, proximity to good shopping, great Friday night live music (fab rock 'n roll covers!)
Review 82:Room was alittle too warm at night and windows didn't open. Althouhh a small fan provided.
Review 83:Staff friendly and helpful. Room very clean. Really enjoyed the full English breakfast. Lots of choice.
Review 84:Another guest using his key to come into my room. I think this was a mistake by the guest and the key that was issued to him The lock in my room was not working to stop this happening. I'm sure on my last visit breakfast was from 7:00 am now it is 7:30 am which isn't any good for me. Two days no food till the evening! However had I read the guest hand book I now realise I could have ordered cerals to my room before so I could have eaten before I left so myself to blame as well.
Review 85:Good food, large clean room, friendly and helpful staff.
Review 86:The restaurant was disappointing. Dinner was mediocre.
Review 87:The staff were excellent, The room was clean and facilities were excellent. Breakfast was awesome!
Review 88:We arrived on Sunday evening and their kitchen was closed. Even this wasn't a big problem owing to the many alternative restaurants in the vicinity.
Review 89:The location was perfect, midway between Sidcup and Bromley and handy for rail journey to Charing X. Situated on a quiet lane we weren't troubled by traffic noise. There was free on-site parking, excellent breakfast prepared to order and the pub itself was a comfortable venue to enjoy a few drinks in the evening. Staff were helpful, friendly and courteous.
Review 90:Unfortunately the kitchen was shut, I'd heard the food was good so missed out. The bathroom was a bit like a hospital, however, it was a good size and nice warm shower. The room was cold.
Review 91:Lovely building, lovely location, lovely view, great breakfast, nice warm shower.
Review 92:Felt that the price was a bit high for what you got, maybe that's the due to the proximity to London. We got rudely awoken at about 7am by bottle collectors. Breakfast finishes quite early (9am). The bath mat had several stains on it.
Review 93:The room was a really good size and the location was ideal for us. The attached pub was noisy, so we expected to be disturbed, however the noise in the room was good -- we heard some noise from the pub, but only because we had the window open.
Review 94:Lovely situation, lovely staff, but the second night of our stay was spoiled by a very loud event in the bar area which continued long after our heads had hit the pillows.
Review 95:Lovely situation, which was down memory lane. First marital home was about 600 yards from the hotel.
Review 96:I ate in, not finding the Chinese I had selected from the information provided, and found the pub food too greasy. It was a bit noisy due to live music and road noise. When booking I was asked if I had any special requirements and I asked for early access just to change cloths for a funeral, after a 170 mile journey. Being a B&B owner I knew my request was very difficult to accommodate but I didn't get any response to my request so had to change in my car before the funeral.
Review 97:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was ideal for my purpose and off road parking was provided, although I doubt all room occupants would get off road parking. Check in/out was very efficient and guest information in the room was good. The breakfast was very well presented with plenty of choice. The accommodation was fairly clean with good bedding, towels and plenty of hot water and accessories.
Review 98:Although you book in at the bar, the 3 rooms we had were all clean, well decorated with good finishing touches. Our double room had a large bathroom with freestanding bath and faced great views of the park. Quiet location and very comfy bed too. Breakfast was a variety of options to match most tastes. All in all a good place to stay.
Review 99:We wanted to eat about 9pm but they had stopped serving so would be nice if they had told us when we booked ..
Review 100:Easy to book and check in .The room was lovely and would definitely stay again ..
Review 101:Good sized bed room and bathroom. Nice meals, a GBP40 taxi ride from Gatwick. The Station with regular connections to Charing Cross a short ride by Taxi. Very nice staff. We will come and stay again sometime.
Review 102:The noise of the fan just outside my bedroom window kept me vaguely awake for some of the night. On the second night I closed the window and was then able to sleep - but it would have been better to have had some fresh air. The bed might have been more comfortable too.
Review 103:Staying in the old village part of Chislehurst away from the commuter traffic, noise and bustle of modern London suburbia.
Review 104:The little lights in the bathroom did not work.
Review 105:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious as well as the bathroom. For the price I would recommend this place.
Review 106:Nothing
Review 107:The staff were friendly , the room was lovely , comfortable bed with a nice view across the common from our balcony , the menu for dinner was sparse but the meals my partner and I had were tasty and reasonably priced , breakfast catered for all tastes ( I had the full english , my partner had croissants ) all in all I would recommend this guest house to anyone and I would rate it 9/10
Review 108:The staff were very welcoming, the accommodation very comfortable and really good value for money. Would not hesitate in stopping at this hotel in the future
Review 109:The rooms had no fridge or safe. The location was a bit rural and there was no room service. We wanted cold drinks and snacks at 9.30pm but not to sit in the bar, and there was nowhere to get any within walking distance or keep any cold. the pub could only offer pork scratchings anyway as food stopped at 9pm.
Review 110:The room was clean and the staff were lovely. There was also a great selection for breakfast.
Review 111:While the hotel distance wise is near the station it is up a rather steep hill.
Review 112:This is a lovely hotel where staff are friendly and accommodating. I had a wonderful room which was larger than I expected. I'd definitely recommend and stay again
Review 113:a little hard to find as tucked away, but then this did mean it was quiet.
Review 114:Good clean rooms, excellent varied breakfast menu cooked to order, not just a buffet! Quiet location overlooking a green.
Review 115:The room had plenty of facilities available and the staff were most helpful, especially where we needed breakfast a little earlier. Excellent breakfast with different options nice and filling before a long day ahead.
Review 116:Very hot when stayed and no air conditioning but would stay again.
Review 117:Everything, room was very comfortable and breakfast excellent. Staff very helpful, friendly.
Review 118:Rooms warm in summer, bit noisy in the mornings so not for a night worker but hey this is a working pub as well. If you want 5 star peace and ac pay the extortionate rates of local premier inns, holiday inns, ramada's et al.
Review 119:Great location, friendly staff, nice rooms and hearty breakfast. Great value for this region. Really enjoyed the stay. Free wi-fi too - please keep it that way.
Review 120:Room a bit too hot, and only ventilation was from opening the balcony doors. Okay during day but not practical at night. Would benefit from air conditioning.
Review 121:Staff very friendly. Room spacious, well maintained and comfortable. We arrived in a Sunday and had a roast lunch in the restaurant, which was excellent. We were visiting our daughter in Forest Hill, so did not use the restaurant in the evening. Location almost rural, with a fox roaming about on the common opposite the pub.
Review 122:This is a pub, not a hotel, so only bars to sit and eat in. Luckily the room was good, but public areas very much a pub. Another pub/hotel under the same ownership which we stayed in two days later was by contrast excellent : recently refurbished and higher standard rooms + restaurant areas. The Crown needs similar refurbishment and upgrade.
Review 123:Well furnished room, helpful staff.
Review 124:Had to leave.
Review 125:Great sized rooms, lift available. Wonderful garden to chill out in. Buses 5 min walk. Great for tourists wanting a friendly English Inn feel. Breakfast delicious.
Review 126:We were in room 3 we couldn't sleep well due to the heat in the room! Windows were open & fan was going alnight! Otherwise all good :)
Review 127:I enjoyed all & staff are pleasant....I enjoyed the food! But sweet potato fries were over done!
Review 128:Shower over bath with a curtain, a fixed panel would have been better. Breakfast at 7.30 a bit late for some guests.
Review 129:A comfortable quiet room, good choice of breakfast
Review 130:The bedroom was well presented, clean and had everything I require for an overnight stay
Review 131:Staff very friendly
