Reviews for Merton Grounds

Review 1:It was a bit difficult to find at night in the rain. The main road (Langford) in is closed (perhaps temporarily). The alternate road is new and not yet in the GPS database. Call for directions.

Review 2:Lovely, big room with excellent amenities. Luxurious bathroom with heated floors. FAST wireless. Delicious breakfast. Charming staff. Minutes from Bicester, Oxford.

Review 9:We rented the loft room and it was amazing. We wish could have stayed longer as is very quiet and relaxing. The owner is very pleasant and helpful. The attention to details on everything is great. Breakfast very good and a lot of it.

Review 10:New bypass road that wasn't clearly signed following a road closure. More detail needed on the length of the track, which was over half a mile.

Review 11:Excellent breakfast and superb breakfast room with friendly welcome. Very well decorated room and bathroom. Comfortable bed. Very good swimming pool facilities.

Review 12:Some might find the long approach drive a little tedious.

Review 13:Luxury B & B accommodation set in stunning rural location with fabulous breakfast and private swimming pool. Owner delightful!

Review 14:Nothing

Review 15:Beautiful room, king size bed with white cotton bedding. Bathroom had walk in shower. Breakfast was ordered the previous evening by text and was delicious. Indoor swimming pool was a bonus for us, we had the pool to ourselves. I would highly recommend this B&B Staff were very friendly

Review 16:When you have to start considering the odd pot hole in the mile or more drive as a possible "didn't like" then hopefully you realise that it doesn't get better than this....

Review 17:Never stayed anywhere before that Ade us feel so at home! Stunning! Will be returning many times to come... Brilliant location for visiting Blenheim Palace, Silverstone, Bicester or just to chill! Go and enjoy!

Review 18:Did was clean when we came in, but was not very impressed by the cleaning gone the following days.

Review 19:The place was actually superb. Quiet peaceful and lovely. Breakfast menu was the best I have had for a long time!!

Review 20:Stayed here on a number of occasions now and there is a lot to like. Elle is very welcoming, the quality of the rooms and all aspects of the property are really excellent. Breakfast is well cooked and plentiful. The accommodation is not on a main road and for some might be a bit quiet and isolated - but perfect for me.

Review 21:We loved our stay. The location is very peaceful and we enjoyed relaxing in the sun on a rug by the beautiful lake. The swimming pool is a good size and we appreciated the sauna. Breakfast was delicious.

Review 22:Excellent stay, perfect for a relaxing break. Lovely surroundings and amazing breakfast in the morning. Hosts had also made some cookies and cake that we could take for the day which was a lovely touch. The hosts thought of everything so it made the stay very easy and relaxing.

Review 23:I loved everything.

Review 24:Superb. Secluded beauty spot. Luxury boutique rooms immaculately clean. The attention to detail was wonderful. They thought of everything. Quality of furnishings and bathroom was very high. The home made cookies and cake to take with us were a lovely treat.

Review 31:would have liked access to the boarding horses..no complaints at all..

Review 32:Ellie's breakfast was great...and her baking fantastic. We had no hesitation in taking her delicious slices and cookies for our journey onwards...and fought over them in the car! Like to think we will return...

Review 33:Basically everything was superb, couldn't fault anything. Ideal quiet location and accommodation has everything you need. Only regret is that we were only there for one night. Would definitely return and would recommend to family and friends.

Review 34:I asked Ellie for a few little extras on my arrival and she was more than happy to help. Felt welcome from the moment we arrived, the room was perfect, so clean and the bathroom was out of this world. Very good value for money with a lovely breakfast. Literally cannot say enough good things about Merton Grounds, will be returning for sure, thanks Ellie and team for a lovely unforgetable stay.

Review 35:I was very impressed with the ensuite bathroom with walk in shower and travertine tiles. The large breakfast room with views of the surrounding farmland was a delight to eat in, with a great selection of homemade food. The grounds were really lovely to walk in (with wellies provided by the B+B on a rainy day!).

Review 36:We only spent a night at Merton Grounds, it's a family run business but the service is nothing short of 5 stars. I absolutely loved it, the place is impeccably clean, well kept with beautiful features. We had the pool all to ourselves, unlike other places all facilities could be used at any time day or night. Highly recommended. I would definitely visit again.

Review 37:From the moment of arrival to departure everything was perfect. All of the small touches had been catered for - from toiletries to tea and coffee and a bottle of milk, plus water. The breakfast was absolutely fabulous - top class in all accounts - taste, presentation and atmosphere

Review 38:Nothing - it was fantastic!

Review 39:The room was beautifully appointed and it was very peaceful. Fresh milk and water was in the fridge and a large selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate available.

Review 40:Can't fault this amazing place. Attention to detail is impeccable. The added extras like home made cakes and biscuits and all home produced fair can't be beaten

Review 41:Nothing to fault!

Review 42:What an amazing B&B! The staff were extremely friendly, the room was spotless nothing to fault at all, amazing views and facilities, beautiful cooked breakfast, all around an amazing stay at the Merton Grounds, thank you!

Review 43:ABSOLUTELY nothing. This place is 10/10 in every way!

Review 44:Where to start? Ellie has set up the most beautiful farmhouse experience you could think of. Our room was absolutely gorgeous. King single beds, luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets, an awesome rain shower and a very new bathroom. Cleaned to the most perfect extent and the breakfast was lovely. Her home is something out of a designer homes catalogue but still retains that homely feel. Her directions were spot on and it's the perfect location if you wish to explore Oxford - easiest way is to take the park and ride bus which is about 13 mins from her place. There were horses on site and also a pool but we didn't have time to visit either as it was snowing and cold during our visit. Please do yourself a favour and enjoy the luxury that is Merton Grounds.

Review 45:We stayed at Merton Grounds in December. Although the location is a little out of the way the B&B is in lovely setting and of a really high standard. Lots of lovely touches and a great breakfast. The swimming pool is good and nice walks around. Would highly recommend and would stay here again. You do need a car here though and travelling into Oxford is very busy at times.

Review 46:Having to leave.

Review 47:Everything. From the decor to the style to the comfort to all the little bits in the room that were added to the size of the beds.... the breakfast, the staff EVERYTHING!! I want to go back. And brilliant value for money. It was perfect after a day shopping at Bicester Village.

Review 48:We could not find anything negative at all.

Review 49:Very high quality accommodation, very spacious room, contemporary with a designer nostalgic feel. Twin vanities in the gorgeous bathroom with an incredible walk in rain shower. Breakfast made from the most delicious ingredients all freshly prepared and served in the elegant breakfast room. Delicious home made cake offered to take away for later, bags provided. Everything provided for the perfect stay and the determination to visit again.

Review 50:On returning for second time great position for Bicester Village. Relaxing and peaceful nights stay in The Hayloft room was of an exceptionaly high standard with some nice touches. Ellie as usual a great host and a great cook loved the breakfast.

Review 51:Room next to laundry was a little noisy.

Review 52:Attention to detail, welcome from Ellie our host and overall feeling of relaxed and lovely place to stay. We have already booked again for our return journey.

Review 53:The place was out of the way, especially good for those who want to be away form the hustle and bustle of the city. The setting is beautiful and the staff attentive. The breakfast was a delight. The toiletries of high quality.

Review 54:Amazing staff and a fab breakfast, you need to give 40 mins notice but it's worth the wait. Room was immaculate and huge would recommend to anyone

Review 55:We really enjoyed our stay, everything about it was spot on - the welcome, the room, the bed, and the breakfast was very good, probably the best I have had while being away. I am very much enjoying, at home, the homemade rhubarb and ginger jam that I purchased as a result of having some at breakfast, I've never done that any where that I have been before. Thank you for making us feel so comfortable.

Review 56:It's off the beaten track but well worth finding!

Review 57:The accommodation was superb - our room was beautifully decorated with most comfortable beds, breakfasts a treat and everything we needed (tea, coffee, water, fresh milk, toiletries, etc.) was available! Everyone was very helpful. Will definitely stay there if and when we visit the area again in the future (in fact, we have already recommended Merton Grounds to several friends).

Review 58:Couldn't find fault with anything, the owners have put a lot of thought in to the whole business, great eye for detail and I wish them every success for the future. Excellent breakfast and a great place to stay. I would recommend and go back. Carl

Review 59:On final night I was there I had 3and a half hours sleep due to every 20minutes or so hearing rumbling noises for about 30 seconds. There seemed to be 2 per 20 minutes. I wondered if it was the underfloor heating. It didn't happen any of the other nights

Review 60:Food,setting,pool, walks, decor in rooms are excellent. I haven't stayed anywhere as nice as this before

Review 61:Everything about Merton Grounds is outstanding: the quality of the accommodation, the breakfast, the administration - down to the detailed directions on how to get there. We were made to feel like welcome guests rather than paying customers.

Review 62:We liked everything!

Review 63:Although a little out of the way, the hotel is wonderful. Everything was spotlessly clean. Sheets and towels of excellent quality. Very comfortable bed and we got a huge room. Breakfast was delicious. All homemade cakes and marmelades. Delicious coffee. The attention was excellent and very welcoming.

Review 64:The driveway, about a mile, was in need of attention but they had in fact started that as we were leaving

Review 65:It was five star accommodation away from it all but only a short drive from the key attractions. The welcome and service were excellent and the breakfast was amazing and included cake to take away!

Review 66:At the risk of repeating what others have said I have got to mention the "Pot holes"!!! We returned one evening in the dark after having a three course meal and felt quite queasy after being shaken up by the extremely poor surface of the farm track !!!

Review 67:Room - Allotment - Excellent apart from footsteps above at night .Soundproofing? Breakfast - Excellent Staff/Proprietors - Excellent Location - Excellent- but see "What didn`t you like"?. Have already recommended it to friends.

Review 68:Nothing to dislke everything excellent

Review 69:Stayed in the Old Pigsty Attention to detail in the room was superb everyneed thought of. Range of teas and fresh coffee supplied. The room had the 'wow' factor and spotlessly clean Breakfast was first class and Ellie her family and staff were very welcoming

Review 70:Nice welcome, peaceful location, spotlessly clean pleasant accommodation with brilliant bathroom and wet room. Lovely location with courtyard if you want to enjoy a drink alfresco. Stayed in the Stables which had a separate entrance. Breakfast yummy with plenty of choice and all served with a smile. Perfect stay ideal for us on the way to visit family further south.

Review 71:The private road to the property is in need of repair with quite a number of potholes. This was the only down side to an otherwise enjoyable stay.

Review 72:We really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was excellent. A great walk in shower, comfortable bed, and even an indoor pool to relax in. We are glad we found this bed and breakfast.

Review 73:Nothing.

Review 74:I can't think of anything less than completely positive about this service and the hosts. Lots of restaurants of every type within easy driving distance. We had a first class supper at the chequers pub.

Review 75:The bed was too hard for our liking. There wasn't really enough choice for guests who only wanted the continental breakfast, some croissants would be nice. But our BIGGEST dislike was the road which is really potholed and there was no way of avoiding them, they were really deep,we wouldn't stay again whilst it is in this state.

Review 76:Our room the Hayloft was very large and extremely clean, and the quality of the towels and toiletries. The peaceful location.

Review 77:The location is stunning and very peaceful. The owners are so friendly and go above and beyond to make your stay perfect. The breakfasts are gorgeous. The rooms are really clean and well thought out. They even provide razors and toothbrushes as well as other complimentary toileteries. We will definately return.

Review 78:The nearest restaurant / bar was 4 miles away so no "popping to the local inn" and walking back but I suppose that makes it a perfect little retreat.

Review 79:The room was stunning. Loved the decor! Staff were very welcoming. Grounds were beautiful. Very satisfied with our stay.

Review 80:Stayed one night with my husband when attending a university reunion in nearby Bicester. Top quality accommodation with great attention to the little details which elevates Merton Grounds to 'excellent' status in my book! Such a peaceful location. The owner, Ellie, and her team were all charming and the home cooked breakfast was superb.

Review 81:This is a wonderful and very modern conversion which caters for every b & b need. Excellent breakfast choices and even home made cakes to take away and keep you going for the morning! However the icing on the cake is the owner who went out of her way to help us when we found ourselves in a difficult situation, she was very kind and generous, it was a real pleasure to meet her. We highly recommend a visit. It was a shame we didn't have time to use the pool.

Review 82:Nothing. Even an the un surfaced road to the farm didnt spoil the experience.

Review 83:Immaculate stay. Attention to detail was first class from the welcome to the end of the stay. Food was excellent and nothing was toouch trouble. I would recommend Merton grounds to anyone.

Review 84:Just nothing we loved everything!

Review 85:I booked a night for myself and my wife to stay at Merton grounds for one night, our first night away together from the children for 8 years! I was absolutely blown away everything was amazing, Ellie was wonderful and it felt very homely and peaceful. The room was perfect and my wife loved the swimming!! We also sat by the lake and watch and the heard the wildlife. We shall be booking again as soon as we get a night away! I can see Merton grounds becoming extremely popular! The road was mentioned in other reviews but it really isn't that bad unless you are not used to country roads! You want somewhere peaceful, clean, fresh and to be honest just perfect then i recommend Merton grounds. The little touches were lovely and the breakfast was best I've had!!

Review 86:Necessary to drive to reach any restaurants, shops, etc A little remote

Review 89:A fantastic location for a chill out few days. Ideal for a visit to the Bicester Designer Outlet and day trip to Bletchley Park for the Enigma Museum. We were fortunate with the weather and eat out on the patio both evenings bringing a little more relaxation to a couple of oldies. Owners were extremely welcoming accommodation was immaculately clean and the breakfast was first class it was home from home. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back

Review 90:There is nothing to dislike. I could not find fault in this accommodation

Review 91:The accommodation was faultless. A beautifully high standard of craftsmanship in the bedroom and bathroom, light and airy, very comfortable bed, lovely sitting area, and the breakfasts were truly superb!
