Reviews for Portland House
Review 1:Just a few minor gripes (because I am a bit fussy): mattress a bit uncomfortable, carpet in dining room not very clean, heavy black blinds in the room blocked the views, and I could not open the windows though no doubt there was a knack to it!
Review 2:Central location. Nice spacious room. Plenty of radiators which the guest can control. Guests can have breakfast from 7.30 (or later). Very nice toast.
Review 3:There's nothing not to like !!!
Review 4:As a solo female traveler an a little apprehensive, but the staff made me feel at ease and nothing was too much trouble
Review 5:No bad experience in the B and B!
Review 6:The staff were lovely, facilities in room were fantastic - tea, coffee, hot chocolate and the nicest biscuits ever! Bed was so clean and comfy, bath and shower! Even a hair dryer and a hot water bottle to use! Amazing!!!!
Review 7:Telephone call previous night to say we could book in early if we liked. Which suited us very much. One of the warmest welcomes we've ever had.
Review 8:Noisy ladies who came in late a little worse for wear. They apologised profusely next morning. No fault of the owners
Review 9:Friendly welcome and good breakfast.
Review 10:Instant coffee for breakfast. But the owner Ruth, quickly redeemed herself, by bringing us fresh coffee.
Review 11:The comfortable bed and pillows - worthy of comment as you don't always get this in B&Bs
Review 12:A few more toiletries in the bathroom along with a less lumpy mattress would be my only criticism. I will return
Review 13:I liked the location and the large room
Review 14:A little noisy at the pub over the road but not enough to stop sleep.
Review 15:Lovely town centre location, spacious room, comfy bed, hearty breakfast, an enjoyable stay and good value :)
Review 16:A head's up, there are lots of stairs, so not suitable for mobility impaired. Breakfast was good, but a little unimaginative considering they also run a lovely little cafe
Review 17:Huge room, pretty architectural features, lots of light and views of the hills while close to the main square. Great value
Review 18:The property does have a limited car park but was not a problem, there is also a public car park not far from here as well.
Review 19:The property is situated tight in the centre of the town, and offers a lovely quaint tea room on the first floor. The staff were very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough to ensure a pleasant stay. The rooms were very tidy and spacious. The included morning breakfast was also lovely and had a great choice of options, which was situated in its own dining room. The nearest supermarket was only a 2 min walk situated behind the property and was also close to the Rock Spa making for a lovely evening stroll. Will be staying here again hopefully for longer, totally recommend for short or better still long stays.
Review 20:The corn flakes etc are kept in plastic Tupperware containers, obviously been there for some time because they were stale. Also very difficult to get out. The bacon was not cooked enough for my wife. No mirror near to a plug for hair dryer. The hotel across the road had late night revellers, no sleep until 3am. Check in was supposed to be between 2pm and 8pm. When we arrived at 5pm the place was closed and no response from the contact phones. We were getting concerned until someone opened up at 6pm. The curtains were not fastened at the ends of the runners so not able to close properly, gaps around the door caused the landing light to shine thro. Not much sleep.
Review 21:Nice big clean room.
Review 22:The whole experience was excellent; super friendly, beautiful property, fantastic position for everything and an added bonus of a coffee shop downstairs!!!
Review 23:All was fine and more..... Minor issues with wifi at the top of the house but this may have been as much down to my own ineptness as the quality of service.
Review 24:Very friendly and extremely helpful staff, lovely bright rooms
Review 25:We were on the top floor: keeps you fit!
Review 26:Convenient for restaurants and pubs. Convenient for town. Great breakfast. Large ensuite rooms. Pleasant tearoom on ground floor.
Review 27:The lock on the bathroom door was missing. Also staying on the fourth floor was a bit of a hike without a list, older people beware! Parking is on a one car width drive, so if you aren't last in, you can't leave early!
Review 28:Excellent host, very friendly, wonderful facilities for a b and b
Review 29:1.62 steps up to the bedroom from ground floor 2.Beds very soft therefore didn't support body 3.Standard of breakfast-very poor with tinned tomatoes & sliced mushrooms. 4.£80 charged was too much for the standard of accommodation & breakfast.
Review 30:Ideal situated for the town
Review 31:The Wi-Fi was non-existent but this was because of problems in the whole area and not specific to the hotel
Review 32:The chair in the room was really comfortable! Friendly and helpful staff
Review 33:only minor - in a breakfast that generally used quality ingredients and was well-prepared, it was shame that tinned tomatoes were used.
Review 34:the view from our room, the space in that room.
Review 35:It was on a main road and there was a hen do at the pub opposite, unfortunately was so noisy I couldn't sleep! Signal isn't very good for phones and wifi codes we are given did not work.
Review 36:Ruth was very welcoming, showing us around on arrival, breakfast was lovely, it also helped there was a tea room on ground level.
Review 37:Room at the top of the building so lots of steep stairs to climb. Had difficulty getting a wide fine connection.
Review 38:Very accommodating as needed an early breakfast that was no problem.
Review 39:Very impressed with this hotel. Our room was amazing. Very luxurious and so comfortable. Such a huge room and the biggest bathroom we've ever seen! The hotel manager was so lovely and very welcoming. She knew beforehand that it was our 10th wedding anniversary and had left chocolates and a card in the room which we thought was such a kind lovely gesture. We had a wonderful stay here and would most definitely stay again and recommend to others
Review 40:The staff, without a doubt. Ruth was efficiency and friendliness itself, and always willing to go the extra mile when asked. The rooms are clean and well presented, not to mention comfortable and spacious. Among the best we experienced whilst travelling all over the U.K.
Review 41:No lift, but this was stated in the blurb about the hotel but I failed to read it properly
Review 42:Friendly staff, and good food. The bed was comfortable and the rooms were warm.
Review 43:Everything was fine I would have enjoyed fresh fruit with breakfast.
Review 44:Ruth was excellent, very friendly and helpful. The room was large and well equipped.
Review 45:nother wrong
Review 46:ruth and ross made us feel so welcome and couldn't have done anymore to make us comfortable. Food was very good and there was plenty of it. Room was great, clean and warm and bed was very comfy. Would recommend this b&b.
Review 47:we were happy but it would be difficult for someone who cannot manage stairs
Review 48:perfect location for events at Royal Welsh showground in Builth Wells. Nice king size room, comfy, very welcoming
Review 49:More attention to cleaning.. (Under Bed/Bathroom Skirting/Bath Mat & Toilet Seat Would Not Stay Up!!)
Review 50:Good location, large room, quiet - friendly welcome with lots of information about local area.
Review 51:Owners Ruth and her husband were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay. The room was well furnished, clean, the bed comfortable and the breakfasts excellent. Would definitely stay again when in Llandrindod Wells.
Review 52:As the accommodations are located on and upwards of the first floor and accessed only by stairs, this property might not suit those with significant mobility problems. This is in no way a criticism of the overall quality of the accommodation, just a point which might prove helpful to some.
Review 53:Ruth takes a real pride in her well-located, family-run B&B and this shows from the decor, furnishings, comfort and cleanliness of Portland House - not to mention the lovely Victorian Tearooms (also family-run!) welcoming you on your arrival, situated beneath the accommodations. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Portland House to anyone visiting the area : -) : -)
Review 54:The owner put herself out to help us; she made sure she was around to welcome us even when we arrived so late. The rooms were spacious and very clean and comfortable. I particularly liked the bacon and eggs I had for braekfast
Review 55:The owner Ruth was really lovely & couldn't be more helpful. She even allowed us use of the lounge to watch the rugby after we had checked out.
Review 56:The WiFi wasn't strong in my bedroom but there was the possibility to use it in the living room, which was open to all guests
Review 57:The friendly welcome and the home comforts including a lovely breakfast
Review 58:The stairs. But helped with luggage.
Review 59:Friendly welcome. Very clean. Good sized rooms. Very good inroom facilities for both tourists and those wishing to work. Both bath and shower. Good breakfast. I'd stay here again.
Review 60:Due to one of us being lame, the stairs were a bit of a trek but our fault for not telling Ruth before hand. FairPlay,
Review 61:Made to feel very welcome as soon as we got there although we were an hour earlier than what we had intended arriving. No problem! We had a lovely pot of tea with scones, jam and cream to make up for the hour. Lovely , big room and bed!
Review 62:Bed too soft and pillows too thin for our taste.
Review 63:Beautiful House, lovely spacious warm room. Excellent bathroom with powerful shower. Good Full English (with lovely bacon). Ruth was a wonderful hostess who checked we had everything we needed each morning at breakfast.
Review 64:Could do with a lift as we were on the top floor and found it hard going
Review 65:the staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for us.We travel to Llandrindod every year and would stay here without a second thought.
Review 66:Was 1 hour late arriving and felt this frowned upon the person who met us seemed fed up they`d been kept waiting. Breakfast was awful cold and seemed as if it had been cooked some time earlier
Review 67:big room comfy bed
Review 68:I prefer continental breakfasts so I would have liked more choice like fresh fruit or muffins, but the cooked breakfast was good
Review 69:Friendly owner, spacious room, tasteful furnishings, pet friendly
Review 70:Car parking was non-existent but not the fault of the owners and it would not put me off for future stays.
Review 71:Really friendly and helpful staff who had our room ready early because we needed to get ready for a wedding. The room was really nice, clean and welcoming. The village location was perfect and very scenic. There was a power cut during the night so the breakfast was a little hectic but the owners provided a full english which was cooked perfectly. I would highly recommend this place, great value for money!
Review 72:Kind welcome and great service from Ruth, spacious room and very comfortable bed, easy access to Builth Wells show grounds which is only a 10 minute drive, bathroom with tub, proper heating for us frosty people, always found parking across the street
Review 73:Nothing
Review 74:Very friendly welcome and nice gesture with text. Very clean and up to date accomodation. Would recommend highly to colleagues on future conferences.
Review 75:Stayed at Portland House for a short midweek break. Though I was a little late arriving Ruth was there ready to greet me and show me around. Everything was exactly as it said on the website and if possible even better! Great value for money and if in the area would definitely stay there again.
Review 76:The bar attached to the hotel across the road can get noisy as people congregate outside;ok through week as it closes early but at weekend we were kept up till 3
Review 77:The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The room was very nice, large and nicely decorated.Good breakfast.
Review 78:THERE IS NOTHING TO DISLIKE EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLANT
Review 79:the staff were very friendly and helpfull.the rooms were spotless lovely and clean.excellant tea and coffee available in all rooms.very spacious as well.
Review 80:66 very steep steps to bedroom. No mirror near electrical socket so had to move big free standing mirror so I could see to dry my hair. Room only serviced if you asked. Towels small and hard. Cold bacon and sausage - when complained plates were taken away and food microwaved so eggs became solid.
Review 81:The location
Review 82:Pre-packed butter and jams - would have much preferred homemade. No shelves to put make up bag near basin and poor lighting for doing make-up! Grubby bath surround in double room
Review 83:Vey welcoming Good beds Daughter loved her twin room at top of house.
Review 84:The sausages at breakfast were not the nicest.
Review 85:The B&b was clean owner was very friendly and helpful. Could come and go whenever we needed .

Review 87:Very friendly welcome and fantastic level of service. Very accommodating with a late check in and early breakfast. Large and comfortable rooms.
Review 88:The owner Ruth was very friendly and helpful and made our stay at Portland House really memorable. The room was exceptionally clean and well maintained with all the usual extras we have come to expect in a B&B..e.g. tissues, shower gel, soap etc. There was plenty of tea and coffee in the room and a lovely coffee shop on the ground floor. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend Portland House to anyone.
Review 89:Long climb up stairs to top floor no good for elderly or infirm. No fire escape from top floor Felt a bit isolated due to no staff around after 5pm. Parking, very limited, difficult to get in and out.
