Reviews for Westbrook Lodge Guest House

Review 1:I would have liked a choice for breakfast–I didn't particularly want a fry up but it was good none the less. I didn't want sausages or bacon so it's a bit wasteful in my opinion. I'm not too into the idea of a shared bathroom but it was fine and clean.

Review 2:We were welcomed warmly by the owner and staff. The room was warm and cosy.

Review 3:A very friendly place /staff and a warm welcome. Some refurbishments need doing but it was lovely and I'd recommend it to anyone :) thank you peter and sarena x

Review 4:Lovely place right on the sea front. Super friendly staff, pet friendly, really good value. Owners are curently refurbing so some areas are a little dated but its still a fab place

Review 5:Bathroom was cold and locks on toilet doors were a bit hit and miss.

Review 6:The owners were so welcoming and accommodating, breakfast was lovely. Beds were comfortable.

Review 7:Fantastic location close to the beach and other amenities. Full english breakfast was a great start to the day, and the new owners Peter and Serina were extremely friendly and could not do enough to make our stay pleasant.

Review 8:The mattress was very uncomfortable and the springs dug in and I got a bad nights sleep. The carpet next to the bed seemed wet! I guess you get what you pay for and I only stayed over night as a place to lay my head.

Review 9:The staff were very welcoming and friendly

Review 10:Charged twice by both Booking.com and the hotel and still no refund given. Room differed quite a lot from pictures shown Shared toilet facilities arent particularly comforting having to walk out of room to use the toilets and showers. More like a hostel than a hotel

Review 11:Great service and super friendly staff. Very warm welcome and great customer service throughout stay.

Review 12:Guest house decor is tired and dated, but it is a new venture and Peter and Serina are undertaking a refurb..

Review 13:Great hospitality ... More than keen to help! Great breakfast to start the day!

Review 14:The bed was solid, but not all are the same.

Review 15:The new owners are friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough for us. They start renovations next week starting on the bathrooms.

Review 16:Poor showers. Dripping taps. No bedside light. Lack of buffet breakfast.

Review 17:Helpful, welcoming owners who were open from the start renovations soon. It needs them!. Bicycle friendly.

Review 18:A friendly Guest House in a quiet location with a lovely Sea view , comfy bed & a good breakfast. The only downside is no en suite or hot water in our room.

Review 19:Very friendly and accommodating owners. Comfortable bed. Complimentary full English breakfast which was very tasty! Two minute walk from the seafront and five minute walk into Margate town.

Review 20:Ideal location by the sea, the Italian owners are really friendly and couldn't do enough for us - plus the food was delicious!! Grazie Pierro and Serena, from Charlie's Angels!

Review 21:As the hosts pointed out, they have recently taken over the property and They are about to embark on a great deal of renovation to bring it up to scratch.

Review 22:Peter and Serena were the most delightful, hard working folk, making us feel extremely welcome, nothing too much trouble, and providing a beautiful breakfast. Good location.

Review 23:The small cups in the rooms for the tea and coffee.

Review 24:Excellent place to stay close to all amenities. Staff were polite and friendly, nothing was to much trouble. The cooked breakfast was also fab!

Review 25:A possible healthier\lighter option for breakfast apart from a fry up. Lack of en suite option however the hotel is undergoing renovation and basic poorly decorated rooms are being refurbished.next year I imagine it will be much improved

Review 26:Quiet location close to beach, fifteen minute walk to town..but lovely walk along seafront . extremely friendly owners, filling breakfast, small bar available

Review 27:I didn't like that we had to share a bathroom and shower however it is my understanding that the owners only bought it 6 months ago and that they will be doing the place up which is very good :)

Review 28:I liked that the staff were very nice and very polite. All were very welcoming a cooked a cracking breakfast each morning.

Review 29:The beds weren't the most comfortable and there was only one electrical socket in the room.

Review 30:We had a very pleasant stay, Peter and his family running the B&B were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Plenty of parking spaces and good location. Breakfast was nice and served over a long period. A home cooked Italian dinner was also offered which I didn't have but am sure would be delicious and good value.

Review 31:The approach to guest house was a bit of a disappointment and in places has been let to run down but this is certainly work in process of being improved to a good standard. I had an excellent enjoyable stay here and planning to return next year.

Review 32:This guest house is run by Serena and Peter who looked after Archie and I very well from the minute we arrived. The breakfast they provided was plentiful, excellently cooked and delicious to eat. A lovely couple who provided excellent service and give the warmest welcome possible.

Review 33:Lovely location and a nice clean comfortable stay. The owners are lovely and made us feel so welcome! They truly made our stay even better will be returning with our children in octob

Review 34:no ensuite family room (but nevertheless very clean shared bathrooms)

Review 35:very nice and helpful hosts who run this business newly, warm welcome, fulfilling every wish possible, superb location, plan to renovate in upcoming winter season --> recommendable B&B :-) Thank you, Peter and Serena, for our nice stay at your house!

Review 36:Nothing to mention!!!

Review 37:The staff really looked after us and gave us valuable information about the area, what to see, where to go :D Thank you/ Grazie :)))

Review 38:The proprietors couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. The property is relatively new to them and it's not a de luxe place in terms of facilities or catering but great location and would certainly consider a return visit for the location and service.

Review 39:The mattress on our bed was very hard. Overall the decor of the property is dated, but we didn't mind and the new owners are working on this.

Review 40:Really friendly, very welcoming and helpful. Great breakfast and easy parking.

Review 41:Really clean and organised house. Amazing, welcoming and lovely owners. We stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed every minute. The owners always made sure that we were okay. The location is also great; we had a sea view room so it was amazing to wake up to a beautiful view. Breakfast was delicious, and there was a variety of things we could choose from every morning. We will definately be back.

Review 42:Owners are a loverly couple who have only had the property 4 months. They have great plans for the future and i feel sure that they will make great improvements to the property.Nice to be made to feel welcome.

Review 43:When you go away it's always nice to be welcomed with a smile, but this time it was like meeting old friends which made coming back to the lodge an extension to the holiday

Review 44:The beds were real hard

Review 45:The people were very friendly and handled our accomadation for our family fantastic . They were so understanding and went out of there way for our travels. I would recommend this lodge to anyone traveling

Review 46:The breakfasts have much to be desired ,very basic. No cereal, toast not browned and a little jam on request and juice when requested. Full English O K but understandably at this price not the best quality produce.nescafe in a pot ! We felt these very kind and hospitable couple were unaware of all the ingredients of an english breakfast.

Review 47:The owners Peter and Serana welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.

Review 48:The couple were really friendly helpful the hotel seemed to be going through a bit of a renovation and had already been improved since my last visit a couple of years ago

Review 49:They were so friendly and extremely helpful. They even moved beds around to accommodate last minute changes to our booking and let us use their breakfast room for free! Excellent value for money and amazing location right on the beach

Review 50:The showers were poor and do need upgrading- only one out of three working when I tried to have a shower yesterday, (we did get up late, so perhaps all the hot water was gone?).Decor a bit drab and dated, but new the new owners had injected a bit of colour into it , (bright bath mats, etc), which did help.

Review 51:Really friendly and helpful staff,- made us feel welcome and safe. Good location. They informed us that they took over the guest house this summer, so perhaps they just need time to address its shortfallings!

Review 52:In desperate need of re-modernising, everything is really old and showers although hot are so weak and just dribble out .

Review 53:Location and warm friendly owners

Review 54:Wi-fi was hit and miss room 9 . Furthest room from the router i assume.

Review 55:Perfect location. Friendly owners. Comfortable clean room . Breakfast was hot, well cooked and large. Definitely stay again

Review 56:There wasn't anything i didn't like.

Review 57:I found westbrook lodge very friendly and felt instantly welcomed. It has a very homely, family feel and i will definately stay again. :)

Review 58:No heating in the room. Lock was dodgy getting out of room

Review 59:The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was like home from home.the staff went above and beyond to help.

Review 60:Nothing

Review 61:Very near to beach but beach itself wasn't that good.. Very lovely staff n welcomed with smile :) Good breakfast, clean rooms, free Parking..

Review 62:i had to go back home!

Review 63:de lodge ligt op 100 mtr afstand v/h strand en tennisbaan.vlakbij is een aantal eet gelegenheden en ook in de lodge zelf kan men heerlijke diners bestellen.

Review 64:the plumbing was very noisy, decor & furniture were tired & pillows very thin

Review 65:Breakfast & the owners - they couldn't do enough to make you welcome & feel comfortable

Review 66:There is nothing that we didn't like!

Review 67:We liked everything about our stay! The location is great, the place was clean and the room was lovely! The best part was the customer service, the people were so lovely and made our experience the best one we have ever had!

Review 68:Serena's hearty breakfast's made me gain 2lb in weight ;-)

Review 69:Was one of the last places available to book so wasn't expecting much but what a pleasant surprise.Needed to extend my stay but unfortunately they were fully booked so had the misfortune of having to stay in other poor (but more expensive) accommodation in Margate for a few nights. When I did return, Peter and Serena both welcomed me back with open arms and it was honestly like returning home. I found out during my stay that they had only recently acquired the business and have huge plans on modernising the rooms, which should be amazing with their history in the hotel business. I have stayed in many different hotels, guest houses and B&B's in the last 15 years, almost weekly, and can say this is one of the most friendly I've ever come across. Many I would stay in again but this is only the second I would purposely make a point of visiting. At a time of crisis I arrived sad and alone but left happy and with 2 new friends. BRAVO!!

Review 70:The bed was quite hard and uncomfortable but the surroundings of the B&B made up for it

Review 71:The couple running this B&B made us so welcome and could not do any more for you. The breakfast and location were incredible and it was good value for money. Margate' sunset was incredible on Saturday night too!

Review 72:I liked a lot to stay at this hotel. Warm and friendly atmosphere, owners are so helpful and accommodating. Comfortable and clean rooms, good location, good food. And what is more important the good price! The best hotel, I have stayed in Margate!

Review 73:The hotel was very tired needed to be brought up to date and a very old smell to all rooms floors were rather creepy.

Review 74:The couple were very friendly and plesent

Review 75:It was a bit awkward to insert kettle's lead into the socket and there were no bed lights.

Review 76:Friendliness of the owners - Peter makes the stay very personal. The guest house is kept very clean, though the facilities are quite dated. The beds are comfortable - we had a good night sleep - exactly what we needed after a whole day of cycling.

Review 77:Not something that bothered me but the decor and soft furnishings of the room I stayed in were very dated. I could have used a bedside table and lamp, I'm sure Peter would have provided one but I didn't notice there was none until I rolled in at midnight :-)

Review 78:Lovely welcome, the Risotto for dinner was delicious and the wines, both red and white were excellent and very reasonable. Very pleasant little seating area in the garden. Breakfast was excellent also, perfectly cooked and piping hot. The room was very clean and comfortable with a good sized TV and tea and coffee facilities.

Review 79:Dear, Peter We very much enjoyed the stay at your house and your friendly hospitality. You and your partner have been very nice and helpful. If we decide to visit Thanet again, we would be happy to come back to Westbrook Lodge or recommend it to a friend. Chris and I wish you the best in your new business. Grazie da tutto ! Noelia

Review 80:lovely stay very nice young couple were our hosts very helpfull very close to beach prom 10 min walk to town centre , we will deffinately stay there again.

Review 81:Stains and residue on wardrobe next to bed, showers in poor condition and water pressure very poor. Also funny odour as you walk in.

Review 82:Comfy bed, friendly staff.

Review 83:What a great stay - I was visiting someone in hospital so in a great hurry and booked the cheapest guesthouse I could find. Luckily for me they must be the friendliest and kindest guesthouse owners in Margate. Nothing was too much trouble, place was spotless, breakfast delicious - I'm now planning to take family there in the summer.

Review 84:The wonderful hosts Pete and serina, made us welcome and did everything to make our stay a lovely one, putting there selves out to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. Even down to one of Petes own belts ! Food was very tasty and we were full to the brim every morning. Thank you guys! : )

Review 85:Evening meal & can of beers just a bit over priced. £10. As nice as the meal was.

Review 86:They were so nice & welcoming without being overbearing. Will definitely stay again.

Review 87:The facilities and breakfast and quite basic and the room was small. It's better for short stays.

Review 88:The owners are friendly and helpful. The location is good and as it is cheap, it's great value for money. It is clean and the beds are comfortable.

Review 89:The showers didn't work properly very little water pressure. Breakfast was fried in a lot of oil. No choice, no inquiry if there was any food preferences as we don't eat meat. Smell of frying in the house.

Review 90:The location was lovely, easy access to Margate by road & a very nice walk along the front. The owners were lovely, welcoming and accommodating.

Review 91:The stay was fantastic. For the price you pay the staff are very good and helpful and the location is second to none. The breakfast was to a high standard. Could not have asked for a more enjoyable stay

Review 92:breakfast was only until 10.00 am on a Sunday (which unfortunately was also the day the clocks went forward).

Review 93:Value for money, clean, friendly staff. Allocated a large triple room despite only having paid for a single,

Review 94:I chose Westbrook Lodge for budget reasons, I did not expect the Ritz at this price. Westbrook Lodge is a traditional old style B&B, close to the beach and with some sea views. It is within walking distance from the station. Margate Sea Front is 10-15 minutes walk, and Winter Gardens are a pleasant 25 minutes walk along the sea front. There is no shortage of parking directly outside the premises. Coffee & tea/kettle was provided in room. I booked a single Room but was allocated a room with double bed. A colleague was allocated a room with both double and single beds. The rooms were fine and had a sink. The rooms themselves were quiet. There were two shower rooms on our landing, one with two showers, but both shower room doors were lockable so you did not need to share the double shower room. Both shower rooms had toilets and there was a separate WC also. The full English breakfast was fine, 2 sausage, 1 bacon, 2 eggs, hash brown and baked beans. The only change I would like would be a choice of tinned tomatoes instead of baked beans, Tea and coffee was included. The coffee was to my taste and I am fussy. Breakfast was included at the price that I paid which was an amazing £81 for three nights B&B. We got to know Alex, the proprietor, during our stay. He and other members of staff were friendly and helpful. I am sure that they will address any concerns you have during your stay. We had none, I have read the bad reviews and wonder what people expect for the money that they paid for their accommodation? Do not expect the Ritz and you will not be disappointed. What you will get is basic clean, warm accommodation at a good value price. For value and service, I give this place 5 stars. Thank you Alex and Staff for a friendly welcome. Should I attend another function in Margate, I will return. I will be recommending Westbrook to other travellers.

Review 95:The owner/manager was very blazaa about me staying. I arrived at 7pm and no dinner was offered and breakfast was included but not for 7:30am which is the time I needed so that I could get to work in time. When I tried to connect to the wifi to send some emails it wouldn't work on many occasions.

Review 96:The location was good, near to where i was working for a couple of days. The value was good. The rooms were quite old fashioned but still satisfactory.

Review 97:The proprieter, Alex, made me feel welcome and produced a great breakfast in the morning. It's near to the beach and not too far from the train station. A good stay and such good value... Thank you

Review 98:Floorboards in room made an awful noise when moving about. Shower sliding doors broken & would not close right. No toilet roll holder in toilet. WiFi the worst I have used in any guest house/hotel very poor connection

Review 99:Friendly couple. Good location. Nice dining room with so choices on menu. Good size room.

Review 100:This place had definitely been let go. Curtains were not fully on hooks, Everything about the room and shared bathrooms seemed dirty. The place didn't even smell clean. The breakfasts were plentiful but made with the cheapest ingredients. Lack of power sockets in the rooms and the wifi connectivity was poor.

Review 101:This guest house was cheap, quite easy to find and had free parking.

Review 102:Staff are friendly, welcoming & helpful. Location is great, with easy access to buses & trains. Rooms are lovely and warm (it was bitterly cold weather during my stay).

Review 103:there was no wifi access for me so this was not that great, mattress also not that great

Review 104:the room was spacious and tv was good breakfast was quite simple

Review 105:This is a typical old seaside boarding house that's known far better days. Everything is shabby and worn, cracks in tiles, dust on plastic flowers. The beds are hard. But you get all you need for an overnight stop, just no frills at all.

Review 106:Amazing bargain price over New Year - £38/night for double room and breakfast! We had a friendly welcome. The room was warm. The breakfast was tasty but basic, just a big fry-up with toast, tea & coffee - no cereals, yogurt, fruit juice etc.

Review 107:Shared bathroom and the decor has seen better days.

Review 108:Friendly staff, good location, free parking and good breakfast. Clean and tidy. Good value for money.

Review 109:Rooms could do with some updating Would like own bathroom

Review 110:Was extremely clean Everything was provided that you could need Breakfast good Proprietor friendly Very quiet house

Review 111:cold not get shower on tried pushing pulling turning the knob round but could not get the water rooms were cold when we first arrived but they put radiators on after a while

Review 112:staff very friendly bed was hard but was ideal forus as we suffer with spinal

Review 113:The shared shower was grotty. The bar was poorly stocked. There was no toilet and shower in the room. The bed was uncomfortable and the room was cold. Travelodge is better value for money.

Review 114:The breakfast was reasonable. Close to Margate beach which was lovley.

Review 115:Nothing as only stayed one night. Margate will be great for a short term stay once Dreamland is fully up and running but town centre was very quiet on the Saturday in November when I visited it. There are more shops open than I imagined there would be so well worth a short visit for that, the Turner Gallery and seaside.

Review 116:For the money I was pleasantly surprised with the size of my room. I stayed out of season and got a free upgrade as guest house not full. Breakfast was good and I had a good nights sleep. I've paid more and got less in say Brighton. Had a tv and lots of wardrobe space which I didn't need. Member of staff was friendly too.

Review 117:A vegetarian breakfast is charged extra, while a meat breakfast is included in the price. This is very unfair to vegetarians!

Review 118:Friendly and efficient welcome; clean and quiet.

Review 119:We booked it late on Wednesday night at around 9.30pm. Check in finishes at 10pm, but by mistake indicated the one night as being that Wednesday. When I arrived on Thursday I was informed of my mistake and had to pay twice. The lady at the desk was quite surly and gave me no choice but to pay again. To call Westbrook a Hotel would be a travesty. It is like a badly run old people's home, with what can only described as an electic mix of seaside tat. The rooms are threadbare, think student digs and they are extremely cold. The radiator did not work. The towels in the room are grotty and there is no discernible colour scheme. The furniture is threadbare. Rooms are not ensuite and the shower is luke warm at best. Breakfast starts at 8.30 but there is no create sense of urgency about producing it. The breakfast was passable. I would strongly recommend that you don't stay here.

Review 120:The exit!

Review 121:the hot water didnt work in our sink in room but we just boiled it in kettle, the grouting round communiale shower badly needs replacing, you may need to take your nan's potty !! great value if you over look the small oderties

Review 122:friendly staff, good full english breakfast, comfortable bed, large tv,plenty of tea bags etc, plenty of loo's near bedroom, plenty of street parking,500yd from beach & prom, miles of safe cycling on prom.short drive from ramsgate, broadstairs, minnis bay, margate,

Review 123:En Suite bathrooms would be nice but certainly not a show stopper for lodging here.

Review 124:Good sized clean rooms, comfy bed, nice bar and excellent breakfast. Friendly staff and very good service. Good value for money.

Review 125:Room needs updating and the armchair needs removing in my opinion the shower needs replacing. Tap in bedroom I could not turn on or off. Plenty of food but not appertising.

Review 126:The location was excellant.

Review 127:Uncomfortable bed. Light coming through window outside. Shared showers in which the doors and broken shower holder. No toiletries in bathroom other than hand soap. Confusion over cost on check-in and check-out. This would all be fine if it had been cheaper but for £65 it was poor value for money.

Review 128:Friendly staff. Very close to beach and sea.
