Reviews for Britannia Hotel Birmingham

Review 1:So noisy not only outside noise which was all night but walls were so thin the people in the next room could be heard constantly didnt sleep left early

Review 2:Good price right in the centre

Review 3:The smell of the perfume and soap strong essence smell which was coming out of a shop on the front. Not from the hote

Review 4:Good service, the hotel was within easy Reach of train station, taxi resturants. Nice frendily atmosphere very comfortable.

Review 5:Staff were quite rude and not welcoming at all, room was very basic and didnt even have an iron or window!! Took us 1 hour just to find the hotel as the sat-nav couldn't take us to the hotel as it is not on a road which is not clearly stated when we booked.

Review 6:Very disappointing hotel services. Staff seemed more interested in contesting with customers than helping them. Food and drink services were sparse, and what was there was of a very poor quality, food particularly. Room was big, although it was a noisy area so was tricky to get to sleep at times. No wi-fi in rooms and poor signal in bar/restaurant. Very disappointed all round. Will avoid in future.

Review 7:Location is excellent for New Street station and Grand Central shopping.

Review 8:Just we got complaint from manager that other customers says we were noisy when talking even know in other rooms they had music loud and were shouting

Review 9:That we never realise u had smoking rooms until got told by manager made it easier as we stopped on 8th floor and would been bit of a hassle going for cigarettes

Review 10:old hotel, smell bad,the breakfast very very poor, broken window in the room,we booked twin room but they gave us 3ple and the room was too close ,the bathroom has only shower on the ceiling old version , they did not change or tidy the sheets !!!

Review 11:nothing

Review 12:Rooms really needed a good clean. Rooms were dated. A lot of noise can be heard through the night by the homeless. Lack of security stopping homeless coming in off street.

Review 13:Location

Review 14:very dated, felt hoarded in at check in and hoarded out at check out, staff not very friendly

Review 15:Location is perfect. Beside train station, walking distance to Bullring, main street and broad street.

Review 16:Rooms felt claustrophobic and stuffy due to lack of natural air. Bar staff seemed more interested in talking to friends on phone than service.

Review 17:i have stayed here many times in lots of different types of rooms. some are better than others. when occupying a room facing the main street there can be noise from street sounds, bands etc. especially during Christmas market

Review 18:great location right in the main street and near station.

Review 19:I didn't like that I was put in the wrong floor. I asked for a non smoking room and the whole floor smelt of smokers. Such a horrible and run down place. Needs a lot of improvements!!

Review 20:I would never pay what I paid. It is very run down. I paid nearly £70 for one night. I would not recommend this to anybody else!! Please avoid

Review 21:This is probably Birmingham filthiest and unclean den pretending to be a hotel room. Do not let the pictures on the Internet deceive you as it did to me. It's basically a tattered set of hotel rooms and you end up in a altercation with the rude staff too. The same goes for the restaurant. There was even sanitary gloves on my hotel room table and bed. It's not worth your penny trust me.

Review 22:Proximity to trains shops and buses is a plus

Review 23:a bit of noise from the street but wasn't too bad since most of it was jazz music

Review 24:friendly staff, good location, checked in early for free, great balcony view

Review 25:No Wi-Fi in the rooms Overcrowded room - 3 single beds in a double room Unsafe bathroom, as no separate shower

Review 26:Location but no double glazing, awoken by Dustcarts and Delivery Lorries

Review 27:A lot to be honest - the poor toilet broken flush which I had to fix myself because staff did not care when told - poor treatment very rude on check in - door cards do not work first time ever - lift is very poor had me waiting for quite a while numerous times - overall not going to return here not happy at all very rude staff and very make shift room. nothing special

Review 28:The cleanliness was the only good thing other than the location which has nothing to do with the hospitality of the hotel itself.

Review 29:Should have wifi in the hotel rooms.

Review 30:What a lovely hotel with great room which made me feel so comfortable and the location was spot on in the middle of town centre. Would almost will stay there again in the future.

Review 31:We were not infirmed that a card had to be used when paying and as we were travelling from Ireland we exchanged most of our money the hotel were adamant no card no booking this was very embarrassing to us

Review 32:Location and price were excellent

Review 33:The area is noisy, there is no double glazing so if you sleep light it is hard. Curtains did little to block out the light

Review 34:Perfect location for stations and shopping

Review 35:Opted to pay by cash when booking with assurance that no money would be taken from my card ('only needed to secure the booking'). Receptionist ('Henna'), however, insisted on my paying by credit card. She said that I could pay cash if I wanted to but she would still have to deduct the cost of my room from my card which would be refunded back to my account in five working days........of course I opted to pay by card only instead of cash AND card!!!!!!?? I had no such problem when checking in with 'Tracey' or 'Mo' a few nights earlier.

Review 36:Location, free wifi in reception/bar areas and the 'all you can eat' for £10 evening buffet with free glass of wine. I had to chase the waitress for the wine however, who had to contact the duty manager for his approval. In the meantime I had to attract the chef's attention for a glass of water who quite frankly was far more pleasant and helpful than the waitress. By the time I finished all three courses the wine had not been served so I was told to get it myself in the bar. I met the barman on the way who had my glass of wine with him. Breakfast not great at £7 and finishes at 09:00am. Went instead to Wetherspoons, 'Square Peg'........£2.80 for full English fry-up and 0.95p for all you can drink coffee (until 14:00pm), as long as you hang on to your mug.

Review 37:Booked asurprise night away for my husband on our anniversary but very disappointed. The staff were very unhelpful and rude. Weren't given any information regarding facilities- for example breakfast, the bar opening etc.. The room was very basic compared to other Birmingham hotels and the bathroom was not very clean.some of the bulbs in the room weren't working and didn't feel like could ask. Staff never asked if all okay when checking out which summed up their general attitude of not caring. I would not visit this hotel again and planning going another surprise weekend for my husband to make up for it!

Review 38:Hotel is easy to get to, close to trains and buses.though taxis cannot pull up close.

Review 39:I was disappointed that there was no WiFi access in our room.

Review 40:The location was perfect for our separate travel links and perfect for high street shopping, everyday needs and sighseeing. The room was well equipped and comfortable. linens were clean and fresh.

Review 41:The food was rubbish Soup like dishwater refused to eat anything else Im afraid and staff on reception surly beggars in the doorway by revolving door

Review 42:Location was good Room was ok but had to have the shower on and water coming into the bath at the same time, also no towels had to ask for some

Review 43:This place is filthy and my partner felt completely unsafe staying here. Staff were functional but they seem to know the hotel is terrible and look uncomfortable when dealing with guests. The location is good but you could say that about sleeping on a bench outside I've stayed in better hostels

Review 44:The staff at the check-in was extremely rude and not helpful. The carpet and bathroom were dirty. Also, there was a lot of noise at night, the walls are very thin.

Review 45:Great location, that's all.

Review 46:the website should be more clear about promoting offers and also not putting in BIG writing about printing copons or bring bank cards if you still wont to pay cash and also if u have already payed

Review 47:No heating absolutely freezing. Thick dust all over the room. Paintwork all chipped. Tobacco under the bed. No lighting.

Review 48:Location of the hotel is perfect for exploring the city centre.

Review 49:This hotel is a dive! I've stayed a few Britannia chain hotels in my time however this was vile,. Dated, paint and wall paper peeling from the walls.. Carpets thick off dust,. It had a foisty and damp smell. The sheets didn't fit the bed window didn't shut correctly hench the room had a uncontrollable draft... Never again has put me off Britannia chains for a while

Review 50:Location was good in the centre, however I was told the parking was 5 minutes walk away when infact it was 15. Dragging my things through the centre of the busy shopping area was a task!

Review 51:Not quiet at night due to hotel being on the main street and they haven't got double glazing, the smell of eletrical burning in lift and reception made us feel a little uneasy.

Review 52:Great central location, friendly staff, good size beds, very cheap.

Review 53:Bed was very uncomfortable and I suffer with a bad back. Walls were paper thin and I had noisy people both nights where they came back late and talked until the early hours. No internet in room. Plug socket far away from bed. Parked car far away.

Review 54:Staff helped when I couldn't get into my room. Close to the cinema.

Review 55:very dirty under the beds broken toilet reported 5 times still no good had to fill the bin with water to flush the toilet kitchen not so clean.

Review 56:what I liked best was when i check out

Review 57:Too little power socket. Room was fairly cold even with the internal heater wasn't very efficient, had to use TV socket to powered the portable heater or kettle.

Review 58:Better than expected for the price. standard clean room that's all I expect.

Review 59:Same I like the old-fashioned style, it is also the absolute LACK of maintenance of it what makes it stand out. Third time in a Britannia, seems to be a general thing across their hotels. Everything works, but painting is peeling, old beautiful wood-works are yelling for a proper cabinet maker to take care of them. Beautiful hotels in the wrong hands. The detail of a kettle with the base of a different model was a bit pathetic, sort of expected from a hostal not a hotel. The views from the rooms of that inner patio/s**thole ...not good (in my pics attached). Switches are a bit confusing at first.

Review 60:The old fashioned Titanic sort of style what's the biggest strength. You could go to a modern one and feel you're just a number in a de-personalised place. Here you feel you're part of some sort of charming storyline. I like the price when it gets to 28 pounds per day per single room. The water pressure is gorgeous and it gets hot instantly. I couldn't find a mote of dust anywhere in the room and no smells either. The staff wasn't friendly but was efficient, which is good enough. The cleanliness is one of the strengths of this place, together with the location and the price.

Review 61:Poor bedroom not very clean toilet wouldn't flush .taps on sink wouldn't turn off fully .chewing gum stuck on top of head board noise level at night time was disappointing couldn't sleep to say you can't check in till 1400 hours thought bedroom would have been checked off stop at Britannia hotel in Manchester on a regular basis Birmingham one was very disappointing.

Review 62:Location of hotel close to train station close to shops

Review 63:The room is not clean. They don't clean coffee cup and the room. I stayed 4 nights. On the second day, we ask them to clean room. They said they clean only one time when we move out. So it's very disappointed. Breakfast room is a bit small.

Review 64:The hotel located at the city centre on the shopping street. It is easy to walk around and go shopping. Plus the train station is very near.

Review 65:First room I was given was filthy, urine all over the bed and across the bathroom!!! And only one of the lights in my room worked. None in the bathroom.

Review 66:Close to train station I the only upside this hotel.

Review 67:On our first evening, our party of 9 people wished to have dinner at the hotel, whilst we went up to the restaurant area we looked for staff, another couple who were also looking to eat here said it doesn't appear to be open, poster clearly stated open until 9pm. As we were looking around a member of staff came up to us and begrudgingly informed us that the buffet dinner was unavailable, however, we could order from the bar menu downstairs and be served in the restaurant. We proceeded down the stairs to do this when all the lights upstairs in the restaurant were promptly switched off! Needless to say we ate elsewhere. Also dripping bathroom tap very annoying and toilet very difficult to flush. Most of the staff seemed very indifferent although I have to say the young lady and gentleman on checking in and leaving were both very pleasant.

Review 68:Location of hotel excellent.

Review 69:This place is plagued with mice. When I went and told the staff they did nothing. In the food parts, in the bar that was not open over Christmas, in the restaurant along the room corridors. Also the staff were rude and unhelpful. I did not make a fuss of the mice I just told one of the workers and he said yeah I know. Rooms were extremely dated and my shower nor toilet worked. I felt no need to say anything to them as they did not care about the mice they were hardly going to care about the state of my room.

Review 70:I didn't like the fact that it took 20min for them to take the cash off me as I didn't have my card and then they took £50 off me and said they give it back to me when I leave

Review 71:Good location

Review 72:If I have to say anything it would be that it needs freshening up, and the bathrooms are dated, but hey they work perfectly well. Ive been in much more luxurious hotels where the bathrooms look fantastic, yet the water is cold or is temperamental when trying to adjust, or drips out of shower head

Review 73:It was centrally located, staff were always helpful and friendly, clean, good quality beds, and bed linen, warm, lounge away from reception so could sit there without all the goings on of a reception area, water in the bathrooms was always hot. Second time I've stayed there now, and initially I had read reviews that it is noisy etc, but I found it very quiet at night, and I was there over xmas and new year when it was pretty full

Review 74:One light wasn't working and no effort was made by the staff to replace it; there was no window in the bathroom and no breakfast included, but otherwise the hotel was sufficient.

Review 75:The cheap price of the room was amazing for a centrally based hotel, as we were literally next to all the leading shops and restaurants! The amenities were basic but functional in a clean, tidy good sized room, and the beds were comfortable so this was perfect for a short stay. The staff were friendly and approachable too, and I will definitely be staying in future!

Review 76:Dirty walls Two beds together with a hole in the middle Key card stopped working twice in two days Window wouldnt close properly

Review 77:Bathtub Fast service

Review 78:My client made 48 trips around the world in 2015 and this was easily the worst hotel he has stayed in and I agree. My room had no windows which was not stated at time of booking. I had to move rooms at 0030. We avoided the breakfast room in favour of a proper meal.

Review 79:Nothing

Review 80:I was expected to get a panoramic view of the city through my window. But I guess it wasn't possible.

Review 81:Completely different from what previous travellers have experienced. Was expecting the worst according to the reviews. InStead I have been gladly surprise. I guess it's a matter of purpose. I'll be back....

Review 82:Nope pretty awesome.

Review 83:Great location for us to do anything we wanted. All the shops are close by food places and cinema straight opposite. With a great place to stay, company and great location whats not to like?? I also loved the big mirrors.

Review 84:1. Dated 2. Dirty (in general and even found an open condom wrapper under the bed!), 3. Bath was far too small and the seal looked like it was put on by a blind person, with no hands. 4. Some of the plug sockets did not work

Review 85:1. Location 2. Cheap

Review 86:The tv was AWFUL. Couldn't get a channel that worked properly. Seems crazy in 2016. The room was very tired but was cheaper than other hotels. It's a shame you have to settle for this because it's cheaper but on the upside, the shower was powerful (very surprising considering the look and age of it) and hot. If you are only there to sleep, then it's fine.

Review 87:Location is great for train station and visiting town.

Review 88:lifts smelly lifts very slow corridor carpets very dirty broken glass on level 5 and was never moved during out stay 5 days breakfast was cold and not very appetising sausages especially and tea was awful. breakfast cereal equipment broken causing all to fall from tube, very embarrassing in front of people. toilet flush handle broken I reportedit but nothing was done. NO room view just looking in at other residents

Review 89:lounge areas and bars breakfast sitting area too

Review 90:When we got back to the hotel it was about 2:30am, our two guy friends tried to come back with us just for a bit but the security would not let them. This is understandable although there was no signs anywhere stating this and we were not told when we checked in we weren't allowed non residents in the hotel. We said goodnight and went to go up to our room, the two security guys stopped me and asked for the room numbers so I told him both of them, I had booked both rooms so one was in my name and I put the other in my friends name who was staying in that room. He tried telling me my name was not on the booking and would not let me get past him to go upstairs. I was absolutely outraged and told him if he did not believe me then he can follow me up to the room where I can show him my print out of the hotel confirmation. Absoloute joker. The attitude and rudeness I got back from him was disgusting. I work in a hotel myself so I know what customer service is supposed to be like to paying guests and that definitely was not acceptable. I genuinely think the two men were bored and decided to have a play around with the next guests who came into the hotel but believe me, I was not happy when I eventually got to my room.

Review 91:The value for money you could not fault, as a group of 4 girls we paid £22 each purely because we were going for drinks in the city and needed somewhere to stay. It had everything it needed to in the room so I would recommend for a group of people just looking for a bed to sleep in.

Review 92:Allocated room is at the corner so there's no WIFI!!! And also the facilities are quite out of age, the room is not so clean. I've found a receipt in the drawer and women's hair in the bathroom.

Review 93:Location is excellent, very close to train station and center

Review 94:The room was next to door where you come in and out to get to the rooms and it was heavy and it banged every time someone went in and out

Review 95:The room we stayed in was nice we got a executive room. We got it on booking.com so got it value for money.

Review 96:Noisy anti social guests along corridor..

Review 97:Location right in the middle of Birmingham: and good value cheap room (albeit on probably quietest night of year - Jan 1st!)

Review 98:Smoking in the elevator marijuana smell is disgraceful for the unsmokers Well at least a Policy has to say about that . Also when you are asking for the towels , people should follow the request not to forget and leave the customer without the orders And a following shift have to do it at 11 pm

Review 99:Where should I start Reason is because heart of the city centre, and all the important places is all around and only walking distance I think if you are love to wondering around is a best idea . Also inside the room is clean not really everywhere but for a price wise is just right in the right place That's my opinion maybe any other people's is different . Room is comfortable and I am recommend on the top floor double bedroom Bathroom is excellent jacuzzi whirlpool bath , , brilliant and clean

Review 100:Being spoken to like an idiot by the manager on duty and having to pay for a room I couldn't sleep in what a disgraceful practice

Review 101:Nothing I got turned away at the door when on my way back from a night out by the bouncer

Review 102:Booked an executive smoking room. On arrival was informed this wasn't an option the hotel had and was put in a smoking room which was smaller than the room we paid for, when I asked for money back they didn't not do so and passed the issue on to the website we booked through.

Review 103:Very thin pillows on bed and no spares and also no hairdryer in the room.

Review 104:Great location. Only a couple of minutes walk from new street station and close to shopping and restaurants.

Review 105:The first kettle didn't work and when I was given a new one, it blew the fuse. No one was available to fix it so they told me where the trip switch was so I could fix it myself which was better than having no TV or kettle. Decor has seen better days.

Review 106:Proximity to railway station.

Review 107:When we walked into the hotel, it was a lovely first impression, the reception area was lovely, as soon as it came to booking, a certain staff member became a little sarcastic! As we got to our room, the room had a smell, we also looked out of the window to find the Windows extremely dirty, we couldn't even look out of the window, there was ripped wallpaper, and we was missing a chain on the door! Our friends who stopped in other rooms also had a horrid smell, there windows were dirty and also there was mould on the curtain! I'm not normally one to moan, but this hotel is in need of a refurbishment, and I am not coming back again!

Review 108:Room was shabby and unclean. Bottle of mould killer had been left in the bathroom. Dirty laundry piled onto a chair in the bar. Poor service - all in all a complete let down.

Review 109:Location is the only plus point for this hotel.

Review 110:The bedrooms look somewhat 'tired' compared to the rest of the hotel. The master light switch in the bedroom, used for operating the TV, was most peculiar.

Review 111:The central location, the breakfast, the bar, and the lounge area upstairs. All very restful.

Review 112:The down lights in both the bedroom & bathroom didn't work. Cleanliness was a slight issue in the bathroom. Television wasn't tuned well; several stations had bad transmission.

Review 113:Cosy bed. Great convenient location.

Review 114:Proximity to New Street railway station and all the main attractions of the city. In spite of the fact that the hotel needed some serious updating, it still provided excellent value for money.

Review 115:Not really a problem, but the rooms are dated & dark, could do with a brush up.

Review 116:Obviously the location is brilliant for shopping trips & the room prices are really good

Review 117:Not good at all especially when with kids... So cold in the room. No heating at all. Drunk people shouting and screaming. Awful experience.

Review 118:Almost nothing sorry...

Review 119:The lifts smelt awful, as did the room when you walked in. The bathroom had stains on the walls no toilet lid. The toilet roll holder kept falling off. 2 out of 3 of the lamps didn't work and it was like sleeping in a sauna!!!!. Stay away even if it were free I would not stay here again.

Review 120:The location

Review 121:The hotel was dirty. The first room had a massive wet patch on the floor and smelt of damp. The second room was even worse. The window was broken so we couldn't close it, making the room cold. the "double" bed was two single beds put together with a zip down the middle. the walls were dirty, the bathroom was dirty. 1 plug switch to charge devices. Very poor lighting. No wifi in rooms. No clothes hangers in the wardrobe. The staff had no control over the hotel, people were running around, being loud all hours of the morning, i was woken up by people shouting and screaming, running around, slamming doors at 4am in the morning! I will NEVER recommend this hotel. It was awful and a waste of money.

Review 122:The only good thing about this hotel was the location. It was easy for us to get around town and know that our hotel was just around the corner after a long day. Not that we wanted to go back there anyway.

Review 123:the toilet didnt look very clean. and i couldnt shut the windows

Review 124:looked a bit scary, but the bed was so comfy ♡ my partner and i fell in love with the bed more than eachother !

Review 125:It appears to be stuck in the 1970s. Think Fawlty Towers and you'll be in the right era for this hotel! Shabby bathroom, aged decor. Very tired.

Review 126:Good central location

Review 127:Needs a deep clean and freshening up. About a centimetre of dust on radiator pipes and lamps etc in room. An inch gap below bathroom door into bedroom, not ideal when you want to go to the toilet as can hear everything in the bedroom.

Review 128:Staff friendly. Breakfast good. Location great.

Review 129:No wifi in bedroom No spa nor pool facilities Very loud noise from the bar on saturday night until late No food service on 24 and 25 December

Review 130:Very friendly and efficient staff Hotel location Good rates, affordable

Review 131:Staff attitude. Did not feel welcome. Check in was very rushed by staff as if they had better things to do other than serve guest, go figure. No explain of basis layout of hotel or facilities. Hotel room was dated and dirty. Bathroom had Hair on floor and in the tub. Electric power source is weak. 8 hours and my phone did not full charge.

Review 132:Location close to shops and amenities

Review 133:The staff were rude from the moment I got there, they were very dismissive and gave off a lot off atiitude, the room wasn't clean either. The heating didn't work, the room was cold all night

Review 134:The price offered

Review 135:Dirty room poor management, poor service no luggage storage Very noisy ( since its near to the bulling shopping centre) Drunken people shout and sing until very late night. I can hear the voice from the next room. Old and dirty bathroom its even hard to flush the toilet, Small bed, very uncomfortable. Coffee cup was very dirty ( it seems like they just washed it only with water). The room was so cold Waste of money

Review 136:Close to the shopping centre ( its also a bad thing since its very noisy)

Review 137:They joined Single beds to call it a Double Bed. We were 3 couples, all had difficulties in their room to sleep. such a uncomfortable sleep.

Review 138:Location, Price, heating, access was too nice.

Review 139:The fact it wasnt clean and staff are rood dont stay this hotel needs taking over buy someone who knows what there doing

Review 140:Nothing hotel disgusting room had chewing gum in carpets stains in the bed dirty bath i would add more picture but cant download anymore

Review 141:Staff , rude , booked a double and it was two beds pushed together , bar service terrible

Review 142:I will be complaining about our stay to the management, dreadful experience and will not stay there again
