Reviews for Crouchers Restaurant & Hotel

Review 1:The staff and service were excellent. Smooth check-in. Delightful room. Despite the Christmas party revellers, residents were offered a quiet corner to dine. Perfect.

Review 2:The only downside is the location, as it's set away from the city centre but it did mean that it was quiet!

Review 3:The room was set apart from the main hotel, so it felt more like a small apartment. Lovely bed, bath and room in general. Restaurant was lovely and we were invited to join in with the Christmas office parties in the restaurant in the evening which was great fun!

Review 4:Room 6 was quite noisy as the people in the next room could be heard talking and their bathroom was next to our bedroom so early morning ablutions (6.30am) were clearly heard. Not nice. Full English breakfast was oily.

Review 5:Excellent food at lunch and lovely setting. Staff very friendly

Review 6:The hotel was hosting a Christmas party both nights we were there. It was so loud the DJ might as well have been in our room. The next night they moved our room to only have been put by the exit of the restaurant and be woken up by shouting, singing and foul language. They had no regard for other guests that were staying there. It was very disappointing as the place looked lovely on the website.

Review 7:It was a lovely location. Rooms were ok.

Review 8:A less good experience this time than last, as the room was less nice (main building) and the receptionist seemed grumpy.

Review 9:I've stayed before and like the feel of the hotel and the rooms are clean and comfortable.

Review 10:Aside from one individual (girl working at the bar when I arrived), not a single hotel employee smiled during my stay. Staff were not friendly, some seemed quite miserable which was a shame and detracted from the overall charm of the place. Breakfast is expensive.

Review 11:The room was well furnished and comfortable. Late check out permitted free of charge. Location. Room was quiet. Bed was very comfortable. Decorations in the restaurant. Free Wifi. Ample parking.

Review 12:All good

Review 13:Very welcoming staff. The hotel is nicely done with rooms approached through a planted courtyard. Nice bedroom and bathroom with large bath. Very good meal in the bar.

Review 14:The breakfast portions were similar to those of the evening meal. Absolutely fine with a 3 course meal but on the small side for breakfast. Minor niggle

Review 15:Nice room, real luxury Excellent restaurant good service

Review 16:Dark carpark

Review 17:Friendly staff, couldn't do enough to help. As a solo traveller it makes all the difference. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant and fab menu.

Review 18:Breakfast was not included in the price. Road was a little noisy.

Review 19:Accommodation is separate from the main building which gave more privacy and made it easier to come and go as we pleased. Room was comfortable size. Free upgrade given upon arrival.

Review 20:The hotel room left a lot to be desired. The old fashioned brown furniture darkened the room. The teapot lid was broken and had a GLUE repair. The tea tray was damaged, the chair cushion cover had a stain. One of the two mattresses was very old and badly worn. The room was quite noisy with extractor fan and plumbing noise from upstairs. There was noise from the upstairs room which was not due to a noisy occupant but to poor sound proofing quality.

Review 21:The restaurant was excellent with fine food and calmly attentive staff

Review 22:Only slight drawback was room was upstairs with only roof light windows so no view outside.

Review 23:Room was nice, staff were friendly and attentive, dinner was excellent.

Review 24:This is a great small country hotel with some of the most helpful staff I have come across in many years of travelling. The room was very comfortable, the restaurant was outstanding and nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely be staying here again.

Review 25:Processed bread at breakfast - a little soggy.

Review 26:Lovely room (Room one). The food in the restaurant was mind blowing. Just superb. The service was rapid and very friendly. This hotel has got everything just right!

Review 27:Despite being a resident I was unable to make an evening reservation in the restaurant which had been booked for an outside function. We had not previously informed that the restaurant would not be open. No alternative was offered. On our return the car park was full however a member of staff moved their can to enable us to park.

Review 28:Overall the facilities were good. Restaurant offered a comprehensive menu, food was excellent, waiting staff were attentive and professional.

Review 29:Really comfy bed. Staff were very nice and helpful. I paid for breakfast but didn't make it and they didn't charge me which, I thought, was amazingly good customer service.

Review 30:The room was disappointing. The photos we saw before we booked were better than the room we had which was like a rather tired chalet. We stay in a lot of hotels in the UK and abroad and this was disappointing.

Review 31:All the staff were excellent. The room was clean. The breakfast was very good.

Review 32:Unable to use lounge when bar was closed - could not debrief on wedding with other travellers as surly night receptionist was not interested in trying to accommodate his guests - did not get up off his seat to talk to us - made a comment on this the next day and he was as surly as ever

Review 33:The breakfast was appalling bad. The ingredients were cheap and of inferior quality. Smoked salmon was bland, scrambled eggs cooked too dry, bacon not of high quality, one poached egg was perfect with a runny yolk but the other was dry, coffee tasted of ammonia, they had run out of gluten-free bread. Not expected from a very good hotel.

Review 34:Room 19 was delightful and very comfortable. The bed was extremely comfortable. We had an amazing sleep! Staff were very charming and helpful.

Review 35:Food was a bit over fussy, but the detail wasn't quite there. Bland smears and coulis. Poor vegetables. Poor shower.

Review 36:Good atmosphere, attractive room, public areas congenial. Good carpark. Easy access to city.

Review 37:Our outside room was very nice but other guests could have been more considerate of the noises they make going back to their rooms especially late at night. Breakfast was good we both had eggs benedict but the ham used was thin packet ham,for £10.50 we expected proper freshly cut ham

Review 38:Location and comfort

Review 39:My room was overlooking the main road and very noisy once traffic started moving. Bumped prices right up for Goodwood.

Review 40:Great bed - very comfortable. Rooms clean and well appointed. Dinner good.

Review 41:Patchy Wi-Fi in the outside rooms.

Review 42:Friendly staff throughout - reception, bar and restaurant. One of the few hotels that actually sells real ale from the bar. Excellent breakfast.

Review 43:I was underwhelmed. Having eaten at the restaurant many times before I was expecting a higher standard for the accommodation. It was a Travelodge room but not the same price.

Review 44:Location was perfect

Review 45:If I had been an early sleeper maybe the sounds from upstairs would have disturbed me.....

Review 46:Well-received at reception and pleasant secure Coach House Room

Review 47:I would have liked breakfast to be included in the price as it wasn't a cheap hotel. However, it was reasonable value.

Review 48:The room was very comfortable, well appointed and clean. The staff were very friendly, competent and focussed on good customer service. they were attentive without being intrusive.

Review 49:Bathroom door must be shut during the night, as the bathroom window does not have a blind to pull down, only net curtaining, meaning the outside light shone into the bedroom and on face when in bed. Top sheet felt a bit rough, (but quilt was lovely and soft). Sadly - Eggs Florentine were disappointing as too much vinegar was used for my taste during my visit.

Review 50:Easy accessed, large clean room with comfortable four poster bed with fabulous soft feather pillows. Boutique style decoration, with large wall mounted flat screen TV, and free Wifi. Lots of cupboard and drawer space with tea/coffee tray supplied. Room leading to a patio area with 3 piece patio furniture, for sunny days. Bedroom also leads into large clean un-suite with deep bath/shower. Good Breakfast Menu catering for all tastes and requirements. Several of our friends ordered The Full English Breakfast, which they said was delicious. Reception staff very friendly.

Review 51:We stayed for 2 nights and both mornings they ran out of pastries and croissants at breakfast, not good when they charge £10.50 a head. The fruit salad on the first morning was mostly apple and on the second morning there wasn't any at all. £135 per room per night (including breakfast) is a bit steep for a 3 star hotel

Review 52:We were a party of 18 staying due to a wedding nearby and the hotel was the closest to the venue. Plenty of parking, friendly staff and quite nice rooms, although they did vary quite a bit.

Review 53:There were not enough towel rails especially when they had been used and were damp.

Review 54:The hotel was in a perfect location for the wedding at Southend Barns. The bathroom was spacious but the shower was a bit temperamental.

Review 55:The wifi didn't reach our room (and neither did normal network), although thankfully this wasn't a problem for us on this trip.

Review 56:Beautiful location surrounded by countryside, only a bike ride away from great pub and scenic foot paths and only a short ride off West Wittering beaches... Lovely and friendly staff too! Food is also above average.

Review 57:I liked the style and layout of the hotel and the fact that everywhere was clean. The flood was very good and the staff were extremely helpful. (The barman was happy to ask the chef to make changes to one of the bar meals for me, which he did, with no problems, and the receptionist willing printed out a route for me from AA route planner.) My room was clean, spacious and airy with a great view over the fields. The room had lovely furniture and a very comfortable bed with a warm duvet. I had plenty of towels in the bathroom and they were white and fluffy - for me that is very important.

Review 58:Rooms comfortable and clean, staff very helpful and friendly. Restaurant food very good. Cost of stay for a business trip was extremely good value for money

Review 59:the young chap working the breakfast service was pretty slack, a few things such as generally not listening / observing - but maybe most people drink coffee from their used tea cup? Dinner was also pretty pricey.

Review 60:The service for dinner was great

Review 61:The restaurant meals were pricey but very basic. A real shame to have such a beautiful place with such average cuisine.

Review 62:The rooms were beautiful. The majority of the staff had a warm welcoming attitude. Our room was upgraded due to our engagement which was a delight.

Review 63:Nothing not to like. Some of the carpets in the communal areas near the bedrooms in the main buidling could benefit from a clean. I prefer the rooms in the upper floors of the outbuildings.

Review 64:Lovely restaurant which a real surprise in a small hotel like this - I would use the restaurant on its own. Cooked btreakfast was as good as it gets. Bar area also very nice indeed. Nothing too much trouble for the staff.

Review 65:Our daughters room was changed due to a damaged bed but they did replace it by a breakfast for a peace offering

Review 66:The staff were very helpful and friendly

Review 67:Bed was uncomfortable you should offer extra duvat s to make it softer as l suffer with a bad back also rumps need to be available for customers who need help with walking aid s I.e walking sticks. Rollator walkers.fr

Review 68:The staff, breakfast, atmosphere in bar and hotal

Review 69:Bed was hard and bedroom small. I kept hitting my leg on the wooden bed surround. I did mention this to reception staff and they reported it had been mentioned before. The location was not so good for us travelling to Goodwood races as the traffic through Chichester was terrible, much better to be on the other side of the city.

Review 70:Friendly staff. Breakfasts good.

Review 71:The bathroom contained a very large jacuzzi bath but unfortunately no shower. My wife has mobility problems and was not able to use the bath and obviously could not shower. We should have been warned about the room being unsuitable for propel with mobility problems when booking the room. We paid extra for a delux room which did not meet expectation. The WiFi did not work until I informed reception who eventually got it working.

Review 72:Comfortable room and bed. Would have preferred a room on the ground floor due to mobility issues previously noted.

Review 73:The food, Both in flavour and presentation was superb. I never eat in the same restaurant on consecutive nights but made an exception here and it was perfect. Staff extremely helpful. This was a mid week stay I imagine this hotel is very busy at weekends.

Review 74:Nothing major. Tiny shelf in bathroom, overhead shower only. Crazy knives, uncomfortable to hold and blunt. Poor choice of bread at breakfast - sliced packet bread or what looked like olive loaf

Review 75:Good location for us. Nice atmosphere, pleasant well trained staff.

Review 76:We felt that the dining room chairs were difficult for us as an elderly couple. They were so heavy that we could hardly pull them in or out. They look lovely but are not too comfortable. Also although the cutlery looks smart it does not feel comfortable in the hand. Sorry but thought you would like to know

Review 77:The staff were very helpful and kind and efficient. The food was excellent.

Review 78:Full English breakfast was a little on the small side. Bar was closed upon our return from a wedding. As almost all guests were attending the same wedding, it would have been nice to have a drink at the hotel. It was closed at 1145pm.

Review 79:Great bed, lovely bathroom. Staff extremely helpful.

Review 80:The staff were brilliant so helpful. The chef prepared dinner for me even though officially the kitchen was not open. I overslept in the morning and missed breakfast. I mentioned this at check out mainly as i slept very well and enjoyed my stay, however the receptionist arranged for coffee and toast in the bar. Just what i needed. Thank you.

Review 81:I didn't actually stay here myself, I booked in 2 colleagues to stay who were working on the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The prices were very reasonable compared to everywhere else in the vicinity. My colleagues actually called me after their stay to say how great the hotel was and to ask if I could book them in there next year too. I can only assume it is an independently run hotel as the customer service is fantastic. Very easy to deal with.

Review 82:You couldn't walk any where from the hotel as it was a very busy road with no footpaths or lighting. The food was very expensive. We wanted to have a meal just down the road at an Italian restaurant, but it was difficult to walk there and too near to drive.

Review 83:We came for a family funeral and booked this because it was where the wake was being held. We booked a double room as all the kings were taken, but were very pleased to find we had a king size four poster in a delightful room. The bed was a bit hard for me, though. The only issues we had were that we had a deep walk in wardrobe in the eaves that you couldn't stand up in and the hanging rail was at the far end! It was like a cave and we are tall. Also the shower over the bath leaked badly all over the floor - we reported it and they said they would look into it. And the room was above the bar and there was no sound proofing, so very noisy in the evening. Again we mentioned it and they said they were due to put soundproofing in. Very pleasant staff, and overall a lovely place to stay.

Review 84:General sloppiness in bedroom/bathroom: basin waste chain not fixed to basin; bed sheets not properly tucked in (did this myself on both nights); in my opinion a single sheet under duvet always suggests duvet covers are not washed and indeed there were make up stains on our cover (certainly not mine). Otherwise, expect heated towel rail in 'luxurious' accommodation. The bedroom accommodation did no justify the price.

Review 85:Excellent dinner and breakfast

Review 86:It's on quite a busy road but the double glazing worked well so noise just wasn't a problem.

Review 87:Attractive hotel; well signed; friendly and efficient; pleasant spacious rooms; let us check in early; good reception areas; outstanding breakfast. Overall, a delightful place to stay.

Review 88:We had evening meal and food was very nice -although a few odd flavour combinations and a little over board with the foams ,gel and purée swirls ! Excellent breakfast with lots of options and freshly cooked.

Review 89:No fuss on check in / out . Staff really friendly and accomodation comfortable contemporary & clean

Review 90:Room still had items left in the drawers from the last guest so hadn't been thoroughly checked. Not a huge deal but something I think should have been checked.

Review 91:Lovely clean hotel. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff

Review 92:Room was very hot as a loft room, not sure the room was value for money considering the facilities

Review 93:Room was nice and large with bigger than advertised bed.

Review 94:restaurant is a bit pricey, though the food is good, bar food range limited, though again, what we had was good. at £11, the breakfast should've been inclusive

Review 95:The room (18) was really good, chalet style, patio doors to the garden with table and chairs, great bed, nice bathroom, everything you could need or want, small, but enough. Breakfast was excellent, though not included in price!!

Review 96:Broken bed, curtains that let in all the light, don't expect a lie in. An area for makeup and hair would have been nice.

Review 97:Excellent bar and restaurant facilities.

Review 98:My stay wasn't long enough The next step is to introduce spa facilities. Then this would be the best hotel in the area!!

Review 99:The food (the chef is amazing!) The surroundings The room The staff

Review 100:I was disturbed by sounds (human & plumbing) coming from a neighbouring room during the night and was also alarmed to find that the door to the patio had been unlocked throughout my stay without my realising it. The kettle base lead/plug did not reach the adjacent socket easily. Light switches not always in easy reach either. No safety grab rail in bath which I need to use following a hip replacement. I like to use a dressing table to do my make-up but had to compromise with chest of drawers shared with tea/coffee making paraphernalia and rather dim lighting.

Review 101:I liked the size of the accommodation & being on ground floor level. My room had lovely views across meadows etc. Parking was easy and there were great breakfast choices.

Review 102:The fact it let people stay there with dogs nit too sure about that as was a very professionaL and clean hotel

Review 103:The hotel was very nice and everything was close together. The staff were lovely and friendly great food nice Room. Pillows too soft but bed comfortable great time

Review 104:the prunes have been changed at breakfast not good and the breakfast served too early for when you are on holiday should be extended to finish later

Review 105:staff always polite and very helpful and friendly

Review 106:Didn't like that at just over £100 a night, breakfast was an extra £10.50 each per morning so its safe to say we didn't try the food and made our way down to East Wittering and had picnic breakfast there with the great view! Plumbing is VERY loud and we were woken by it several times. We also had a couple below us the first night who decided to have a blazing argument at 2am! I know there isn't much the hotel can do about that apart from knocking on their door and letting them know they are disturbing other guests but as reception closes at 11pm there was noone to inform! So note that the walls/floors are relatively thin as you can hear other guests in adjoining rooms. Bathroom photos on website are misleading.

Review 107:Although the room and bathroom was small, it was nicely made up and had a pretty comfy bed - no lack of pillows! Staff friendly although not particularly helpful when there are issues. The room had an electric heater and a fan heater so we were able to control the heat of the room which was great. Nice area, quite close to Witterings and Chichester although not sure how easy it would be to get to without a car.

Review 108:Wifi was a little weak in room 19.

Review 109:We had an excellently organised and delicious meal for 20. Breakfast was also fantastic, great continental selection and cooked choices were delicious. Staff were brilliant.

Review 110:My only complaint would be breakfast was busy .. it would have been nice for all 5 of us to receive our food at the same time. We were only there a night so it would have been nicer.

Review 111:Room was very clean & the views were lovely.

Review 112:The bed was so hard it didn't give, even a little bit, for some that may be their preference but to us it was as if sleeping on the floor. Breakfast was disappointing due to them running out of ham for the eggs benedict (a resteraunt of this standard should be better prepared) and then when our meals arrived 3 out of the 4 poached eggs were hard boiled!

Review 113:The staff were friendly and the Resteraunt and Room were spotlessly clean and warm.

Review 114:The sofabed in the room was very uncomfortable according to our 13yr old. The corridors were freezing!

Review 115:The 12 o'clock checkout, nice bathroom, towels and sheets.

Review 116:My fiancée Jean has terminal pancreatic cancer which has led to her having certain dietary requirements such as no gravy and small portions of meat with no fat. The food which served to Jean had fatty meat covered in gravy which had to be returned and changed. The desk staff when we checked out were only interested in the things we liked and ignored criticism of what we didn't. We won't be back and I would like a refund,

Review 117:Nice Location; disabled parking, Reasonably quick room service.

Review 118:Slightly dodgy wifi connection, but not unusable.

Review 119:Really friendly and helpful staff. Lovely room, very comfortable. Good, well presented and generous breakfast. Thoroughly recommended to anybody looking for a decent base in this area.

Review 120:No dislikes

Review 121:Staff were very friendly "King" Room was spacious and comfortable Bed was supportive but comfy (and big) Short drive to town centre parking

Review 122:Didn't find anything not to like!

Review 123:Lovely staff who were cheerful (despite having to work on Christmas day!) and very comfortable beds. Really good breakfasts too!

Review 124:This location is ideal if you are driving, but can get a bit pricey for taxis, as there is nothing within walking distance.

Review 125:Lovely view off the back patio. Staff were friendly, helpful, sincerely pleasant. Happy for the tea/coffee in the room. Lots of parking available.

Review 126:Can't think of anything to criticise .

Review 127:Superb food , warmth of welcome and of all bar and restaurant staff, warm and comfortable bedroom, good location close to world class beach , marinas and beautiful coastal walks .

Review 128:Room described as king-sized but was a little cramped for 2. Only 1 arm chair. Food was a little rich for one of us (who prefers plain food) but the other liked it!

Review 129:Quiet country hotel 3 miles outside Chichester. Easy parking, comfortable, warm, friendly staff Very restful and easy to get into town. Good choice at breakfast.. dinner very nice.

Review 130:if anything, the Bar menu was limited for my taste

Review 131:everything, except that I could not spare time to explore the surrounding area as suggested by the Receptionist!

Review 132:Busy, poorly lit country road during rush hour made finding & leaving the hotel quite difficult in the dark.

Review 133:Stylish, comfortable room with lovely bathroom. Bar & restaurant equally well presented. Staff were helpful and friendly throughout. Lovely, peaceful secluded terraced garden to the rear of the property.

Review 134:The room was too small for the fairly comfortable bed, the bathroom small and tired, in need of a complete re-vamp, and the breakfast was expensive and awful.

Review 135:Bed hard & noisy springs, exterior building lights intrusive, road noise, bathroom sink/tap ensures water on you!, shower ensures water on floor.

Review 136:Pretty room with 4 poster, good location, easy parking, friendly staff.

Review 137:Very noisy. Windows do not keep out road noise or voices of other residents returning to rooms at all hours. Windows need replacing with upvc triple glazing! It was not relaxing at all therefore an expensive 2 nights with broken sleep, not what I wanted for my husbands birthday away. Footsteps above went on for ages and the floor creaks constantly. Shower cold or scalding hot and difficult to regulate, especially if someone else in a nearby room turns on a tap or flushes the loo.

Review 138:Because of the negatives I can't really say I liked my stay at this hotel which is a shame.

Review 139:We were thrilled when we saw our lovely room and little terrace, just Sad we were not there longer. We came down for a graduation at the festival theatre and then went to West Wittering the next day. Superb location for both.
