Reviews for Budock Vean Hotel
Review 1:We were upgraded to a palatial suite with a fantastic view at the front of the hotel. Food and spa outstanding, in particular, the Reflexology. Outside hot tub great even in rain and howling winds!
Review 2:Some parts of the hotel are looking rather dated, and in need of modernising.
Review 3:Setting and grounds are beautiful, with a delightful walk down to the foreshore. The terrace and sun lounge make a great place for morning coffee. Staff were all pleasant and helpful.
Review 4:Jacuzzi is looking tired as were the swimming pool toilets.
Review 5:Comfort and view of the gardens was lovely. The room was really spacious and we loved the swimming pool. Staff were friendly and very helpful and the breakfast and food overall was excellent. Had a fantastic stay.
Review 6:We were a bit disappointed that we were placed in a room much smaller than other rooms, especially as it was a special occasion, as notified in our booking form
Review 7:The meals were of the highest standard, as was the service and grounds
Review 8:The bathroom door was rather grubby and the double bed had a middle zip and I had to avoid the centre which was uncomfortable due to a dip.
Review 9:the situation and the grounds of the hotel and their wonderful pet friendliness. All the staff were delightful.
Review 10:Room60 The hot water was too hot..... Risk of scalding, making the shower difficult to use. This needs sorting out. The written questionnaire in the bedroom was too long and not a pleasant way to end our stay ,so we didn't do it! This is much better.
Review 11:Relaxing. Excellent food and service in the restraunt. Bar staff very good.
Review 12:Next time we're going back with our twins as there were lots of family friendly facilities. The food was great and the staff were all very friendly and helpful
Review 13:Surprised there was no gym. Couldn't connect to wi fi with methods you offer. Prob my fault. Stipulation of jacket for dinner put us off and did like being asked as soon as we sat down for breakfast if we were staying for dinner.
Review 14:Gardens, lounges. Walk to river
Review 15:Room 30 was very dark. Not sure what could be done but it did make getting dressed and made up tricky.
Review 16:The friendliness and willingness to help us was outstanding. We had specific needs and everyone was very accommodating - especially the staff on Reception.
Review 17:Nothing.
Review 18:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the end of May and took advantage of the indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna. The food was amazing from the variety at breakfast to the table service for the evening meal. In my opinion Budock Vean has it all. It truly was a relaxing few days. We are already planning next year's visit.
Review 19:We didn't appreciate being shut off from the main dining room, even though my girls are 9 and 11, well-dressed and very well-behaved. The hotel was very expensive for how dated the interior is; the bathrooms were very old and the hair dryers were worthless. The hotel only accepts American Express if you agree to pay the charge.
Review 20:Very pretty location, convenient and family friendly golf course, dinner was excellent.
Review 21:Having to wear a jacket and/or tie at dinner is a bit over the top, smart casual should be OK these days
Review 22:Exceptional food comfortable well decorated clean rooms Golf course, pool and spa facilities.
Review 23:Hot tub very poor, only warm water but understand it is to be replaced
Review 24:Great open fires, lovely staff and relaxing accommodation, brilliant for getaway locally
Review 25:Not much
Review 26:Delightful location, attentive staff and good food. Love the freshly cooked breakfast to order. Nice to see some refurbishment taken place. It was much needed. Will come again
Review 27:Friendly staff, wonderful food and lots to do. A perfect destination for a family retreat that had something for everyone in a get together encompassing three generations. Delighted!
Review 28:Decor a bit dated and slightly musty odour in some of the corridors and reception area.
Review 29:Nice Hotel though a little dated the pool area is bright and the pool big enough to get some swimming done. Good 9 hole course.
Review 30:We did not get the room we booked we had the older rooms when I complained I was told they were full and it's all they had, as we stay there to celebrate my wife's 60th and my 65th birthdays !!
Review 31:Staff and food excellent
Review 32:Room 41 although veryverygood could have made better use of the space, turn bathroom through 90 degrees make room into simple oblong
Review 33:Location Ambience of a traditional hotel
Review 34:Two false fire alarms on Saturday night - one a 3:30am spoilt most people's sleep!
Review 35:Staff went "beyond the call of duty" especially in helping my 86 year old mother and particularly the retrieval of her lost earring
Review 36:Our room was very nice, but a little stuffy because the window could not be opened fully. On the other hand we had a wonderful view over the golf course.
Review 37:I enjoyed the ambiance of the place very much and found it an excellent place to 'unwind'. We enjoyed the walks, golf and river cruise but due to other commitments, in Cornwall, we were not able to take full advantage of all the facilities
Review 38:dress for dinner....this is 2014. cooked breakfast was disgraceful.....guess the staff would not eat it and yes i do need fresh towels everyday i have them at home !!!!!!!!
Review 39:I admit that we now realise that, only being our mid 40s, we were probably at least 20 years under the target market. How that clientele copes with a walk across a pitted car park in the dark is a surprise The hotel applies strict dress code for evening dinner. We were too late anyway but it's good to see such standards. If only those standards were uniform. The toilet didn't work even after maintenance 'fixed it' meaning a trek to public facilities. And have you ever paid over £200 for night in a hotel that cannot provide an iron to your room or insists on allocated tables in the restaurant? The latter meant we breakfasted behind a screen hidden from service, but adjacent to the busy kitchen entrance, despite several empty tables with lovely views of the grounds. However, most unforgivable was the rudeness of not one, but two breakfast staff who each demonstrated all the impatient abruptness of a stern matron. This however is presented as a luxury hotel, not a care home although you might struggle to distinguish at times
Review 40:The location and beautiful grounds are deserving of a wonderful hotel
Review 41:No Ironing board in the room and by the looks of it, there is only one to share for all the guests....
Review 42:As above, great views. Had a really lovely dinner on both nights of my stay. Resort has lots to do, if you have the time, so bring your sports gear!!
Review 43:Very old fashioned bedrooms and the corridors still have artex and woodchip! Very dated needs to be modernised , tv is low down at the bottom of the bed so when you lay in bed you can't see the tv properly, no irons in the room you have to go to laundry room! Dinner jackets for evening dinner very pompous !! More for the elderly as 80 per cent were over 60 years old !
Review 44:Very pretty surroundings, lovely golf course, lovely walks to the pub and the helford river . Staff very helpful and friendly , nothing is too much trouble .
Review 45:Dated, tired interior on upper floors Dated and tired decor and furnishings in our room Our room was too hot; little ventilation without opening a huge window (for which access was required from the staff) which then blocked the TV. The hotel tries to cater for too many types of clientel and probably only suits golfers (I'm not a golfer)
Review 46:Location Superb grounds and access to the river Hotel exterior Hotel staff were generally excellent Food was generally good and plentiful Facilities (although these were of mixed quality/availability)
Review 47:They dont have safe in the room, beginner restaurant staff and poor quality massage.
Review 48:Food, golf, general atmosphere, landscape, nature around, room, breakfast.
Review 49:Room decor was a little tired and dated and as the weather was so hot, so was the room temperature! not much sleep was had! air con or a fan would have been perfect!
Review 50:Love the setting, perfect for walking and visiting local gardens. Food and hospitality second to none.
Review 51:no dislikes
Review 52:staff made your stay so relaxing would bend over backwards to make your stay better, food was 5 star, scenery couldn't be matched definitely worth a visit. the owner made the effort to visit everyone who stayed personal touch counts for everything.
Review 53:Swimming pool not opening until 8.00 am. Would have like to have had a swim before breakfast.
Review 54:The dogs were made welcome. The dress and behaviour standard The food (breakfast) excellent quality and variety Staff welcoming, polite and helpful
Review 55:As I said in my 'likes', it's a 15-20 min drive fromFalmouth itself - great if you want to relax in the middle of nowherebut a real pain if you were expecting to walk out the hotel door andhave shops/pubs and other "towny" things on your doorstep.Again, wasn't a problem for me as I'd hired a car, but there isno warning how far from town it really is and I couldn't helpthinking that if I didn't have a car, I would have been stuck in thehotel for my entire stay. As long as you know all this in advance, thenI can't recommend the place highly enough - ideal if you're justlooking to unwind and with the spa, gardens, river (withboat/kayaking trips), golf-course, swimming pool and tennis courts, there is plenty to do without ever leaving the hotel.
Review 56:The hotel is set in beautiful grounds, going all the way down to theHelford River. 62 acres apparently, although a part of that is the golfcourse. But still, I took a leisurely walk down to the river, throughbeautiful, well maintained gardens, without ever leaving the hotelgrounds. The room was comfortable and clean, although it really couldhave done with air-conditioning. To be fair, I happened to be thereduring a very hot period and for most of the year, aircon is probablyunneccesary, but a lot of 4-star hotels have it now. Overall though, Iwould definitely recommend this hotel. It's a bit naughty toadvertise it as Falmouth. It's in a village called Mawnan Smith, which is about a 15-20 minute drive from Falmouth itself and althoughit's in the Falmouth area, you are given the impression thatit's near the actual town. That said, it's also why it's sopeaceful, so as long as you know this before you book, it's a superbplace to relax and unwind. I had a car and the drive to Falmouth itselfis very pleasant.
Review 57:Extraordinarily awful disability access.- wheelchair access ridulous. Shabby but not chic- just threadbare and grubby- don't expect this for this room rate. Rooms hot and stuffy- no air conditioning-
Review 58:Lovely position Good sized swimming pool - can actually swim in it. I wasn't commanded to " enjoy" when served food.
Review 59:only an over night stay after attending an organised lunch, but thoroughly enjoyed what I did (pool) and had.
Review 60:Very friendly staff and excellent food
Review 61:Price
Review 62:Friendly staff and nice rooms
Review 63:Food excellent, welcoming entrance , very nice dining room, excellent breakfast and dinner. Good swimming pool, lovely walks
Review 64:The food, the golf, the grounds - all excellent.
Review 65:Excellent hotel with good food attached golf course and location near many interesting areas.
Review 66:dinner time formality, decor a bit tired
Review 67:good food, v friendly service, spacious and comfortable room
Review 68:Room decor slightly jaded, needs updating
Review 69:Service, friendly and courteous staff, restaurant and bar
Review 70:Subdued atmosphere
Review 71:Location
Review 72:Everything was perfect. Sweet dreams!
Review 73:Restriction on Jacket attire for evening meal.
Review 74:Location was very quiet and relaxing
Review 75:Was disappointed that using American Express would have cost me 3.6% more. I don't feel this charge should be met by the customer.
Review 76:location
Review 77:You didn't get the order right.
Review 78:general ambience of the hotel and friendliness of staff. Also very good food.
Review 79:the fan from the bathroom (very noisy)
Review 80:all ,everything was great
Review 81:Staff were lovely. Evening meal was superb and friendly staff.
Review 82:Was very up market. Tended to cater for the older generation.
Review 83:The meals, spar & swimming pool. The room was very spacious.
Review 84:The so called summerhouse overlooking the estuary was dirty, broken furniture and very disappointing.
Review 85:The staff and the food and the gardens
Review 86:It all needs updating, way too formal and all looks bit tired, cooked breakfast good but buffet very dated , tinned fruit not a good one
Review 87:The location
Review 88:Virtually everything was as one would wish. A badly repaired wardrobe door was the only blemish.
Review 89:Service and food
Review 90:Everything. Have been a very regular guest
Review 91:Very comfortable bed and the food was excellent.
Review 92:Comfort of bed
Review 93:As above will make more of the facilities next time
Review 94:Cleanliness, location, facilities were all top class.
Review 95:Noise from other rooms!
Review 96:The surroundings.
Review 97:Breakfast
Review 98:All good
Review 99:Fantastic leisure facilities Great breakfast
Review 100:I dislike having to go through agents when booking.
Review 101:An excellent bedroom No. 51 and superb food
Review 102:Unnecessarily complicated procedure for wifi log-in High meal & wine prices.
Review 103:Golf course, river location, room.
Review 104:Restaurant Good food, but very old fashioned
Review 105:Location Comfort Staff
Review 106:Noisy refurbishment work
Review 107:Excellent Food
Review 108:Didn't know about the boat on river & how stunning it is I'm that area - then ready to leave! Swimming pool was a bit disappointing when compared to rest of hotel.
Review 109:The grounds, food & staff - it was very relaxing - apart from walk back from local pub! Bit steep. Location is wonderful.
Review 110:The hotel is in need of decoration throughout. It lacks in generosity - we asked for a pot of tea and in most 4-star hotels biscuits normally accompany this. We had to ask for some and were given one each which were just thrown on a plate. The refreshments in the room were also sparse and stingy. The view from the room was miserable and for £190 per night you expect something better than this. The only choice of food in the evening was a 3-course meal for over £40. There were no alternative arrangements. We wouldn't go back there or recommend it to anyone else. No one bothered to ask if we had enjoyed our stay. I wonder why?
Review 111:The gardens were beautiful and the location ideal.
Review 112:The staff had been just amazing to say the least. Very helpful and adding that personal touch to the service provided. We had a special situation and the way the staff and the owner supported us was just unbelievable. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for spa and golf break in the remote wilderness of Cornwall.
Review 113:The general condition of the hotel is 'tired' - in virtually every aspect the place needs an uplift. The hotel sells itself as a spa resort yet there is no gym, which is very disappointing. The pool is in poor condition, as are the change facilities, and the sauna. The web site shows images of the estuary, with the water appearing to be lapping up to the hotel - it doesn't! The image is of the boat house, with the estuary a good third of a mile from the hotel. The hotel bedroom allocated to us (Superior room) was disgraceful, with the door handles virtually falling off two of the three doors in the room. needless to say we complained, and were allocated a better room.
Review 114:The hotels location is excellent - the local pubs serve fantastic food and beers - cannot fault them. the staff were very helpful and courteous. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 115:Decor a bit outdated but not offensive and I understand they are working on this. I personally did not like the dress for dinner policy but it seems that other guests did, so it would be nice for an alternative other than just bar meals to be offered for those who enjoy a meal in casual clothes .
Review 116:The facilities and the staff who were very kind to a bored solo traveller
Review 117:Corridors to bedrooms a little dowdy.
Review 118:Staff very attentive. Food imaginative, well cooked, presented and served. Setting is lovely. We took our Border terrier which was much appreciated. Bedrooms a good size and bed comfy.
Review 119:The peace and quiet, and the beauty of the surroundings; the trouble the proprietor took to speak to every guest; the attentive and efficient restaurant staff
Review 120:Our room was a superior one but we had a few problems the kettle leaked badly with a split down one side cups were chipped and the cafeteria was badly chipped the sheets and pillows had seen better days plus we had no fridge in the room, we only had breakfast while we stayed the china looked worn out and we had to show them the cutlery it looked dirtyWe did mention all this on the survey thinking some one might get in touch but so far no luck.
Review 121:The golf courses and gardens staff was friendly and helpful
Review 122:We felt the young staff in the restaurant were poor they appeared to have not been trained properly. There we two exceptions Wendel and Emily.
Review 123:The situation of the hotel is perfect and the food was excellent
Review 124:There was nothing we could fault it for.
Review 125:the staff were marvellous, nothing too much trouble for them. The food was simply wonderful. The room was large and well furnished with separate toilet and bathroom and a lovely view. All in all we would certainly go again.
Review 126:Location, tranquility, golf, hot tub and pool, fine dining
The Fine Print
Although the hotel do not have a formal dress code they do ask our guests to dress smartly for dinner; jackets for gentlemen preferred (so no shorts, t-shirts, trainers or similar).
