Reviews for Hydroussa Hotel Hydra

Review 1:Spotty internet, except in the lobby and perhaps in the courtyard. Outside people noise at night (people in the courtyard on Thursday and a serenading local who may have had a bit too much to drink in the street late on Friday) was bothersome, but we were tired, so we slept in spite of it.

Review 2:The location was excellent, near a small grocery, and a fairly short walk uphill from the harbor. The room was clean and cool, had a fridge and plenty of room for the three of us. Breakfast had a wide selection.

Review 3:Lovely property, with lots of character. Spacious room - ours had an ocean view. Staff were extremely helpful and jovial and made great restaurant recommendations.

Review 4:Poor quality bathroom. Fittings badly corroded and water came up thru the floor when having a shower. Bed very uncomfortable. Other than dining room the building is more like an Eastern Block state run institution. Not value for money.

Review 5:Staff member Antony was really the only positive feature other than location.

Review 6:Wifi didn't work in the room.

Review 7:The property was very stylish and well decorated. Room was very spacious and clean. The garden in front of the building was very lovely both for having breakfast in the morning and just sitting&relaxing in the evening. Also I must mention Antonis and Costas. They were both amazing and helpful. Their recommendations for local restaurants always made me happy at the end.

Review 8:The air conditioning didn't work properly, it constantly blew out hot air (needs fixing) and we could t change temperatures. Thankfully the evenings were quite cool so we slept with windows open. Te double bed was 2 single beds with a long pillow connecting the two - incredibly uncomfortable and the beds kept sliding apart.

Review 9:The staff (in particular Antonis) were very kind, very helpful, and actually cared about our stay. The breakfast was wonderful, delicious fresh food, and the print courtyard was a lovely place to sit and relax in the morning.

Review 10:The wifi did not work in the rooms. It worked very well in the lobby, lounge and courtyard. It was not an issue for me, but the kids were a bit frustrated.

Review 11:We really enjoyed this hotel. It has an excellent location - back from the water but not too high up. It is located on a large square. It has a lovely courtyard where we really enjoyed our breakfast. The rooms are large and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back.

Review 12:Shower compartment had broken tiles and should have been repaired.mould on tiles. Plastic shower curtain not aceptable for a hotel rating. Typical hotel have glass shower screens .

Review 13:Quiet location

Review 14:The free WiFi was only functional in the reception area, which was a bit of a pain

Review 15:Great location, just a few minutes from the main port. Lovely, helpful staff and beautiful building. My room was nice and clean, the bathroom was brand new and sparkling, and the airconditioning was great.

Review 16:Loved it, perfect location and setting. Yes the wifi wasn't great but as I was on holiday I saw that as a positive. It made the children talk to us!!

Review 17:WiFi was only in the check in area, and the shower was very cramped with the shower curtain closed, but these are only small complaints.

Review 18:Great hotel that went the extra mile: bottle of water in the room, early check in, plenty of toiletries and towels, satellite TV.

Review 19:the location, the style, the comfort and above all the wonderful staff, Antony and the two Costas who were single minded in their desire to look after the welfare of their guests.

Review 20:No Wi Fi in the room.. Only in reception area and garden..

Review 21:A good stay in a traditional greek hotel and amazing island.. Thank you for all the staff specially Antony who made a big effort to make us happy..

Review 22:Lovely building not far from the port. Real old style archontika built by a shipowner & owned by another who had a tragic end. More could be done with the interior to get residents to use with its white walls, high dark wood floors and ceilings with antique furniture. Which makes the rooms a bit bland even the updated bathrooms contrast. Great breakfast though which can be taken in the courtyard.

Review 23:Although the hotel was good the WiFi was pretty non existent. Couldn't get a decent connection even when I was in the lobby. Needs improving maybe with WiFi boosters or a better broadband setup.

Review 24:Hotel staff and manager were very accommodating and very friendly. Was fairly close to the port. There is a supermarket very close by. Would stay here again!

Review 25:Can be a bit noisy at night but this might depend on the room you get. After all, the hotel is in the town.

Review 26:Easy to reach location just off the port area at a square. Very friendly staff welcoming us and showing us even other rooms as an option. Room was comfortable and the breakfast was varied with some Greek touches.

Review 27:Despite the fact that my reservation was for me (an adult) and a child (my daughter), when we arrived we were told that there is a problem and that their system booked us for a single room (just one bed), which actually was really tiny even for one person. We had to put a small extra bed in, which made our stay difficult. They could not move us to another room, as they were fully booked. But, we were allowed to stay beyond check out time and this way it was far easier for us to enjoy the day with no stress and get ready for our ship late in the afternoon.

Review 28:The location, the garden of the hotel, the quitness of the spot.

Review 29:Nothing, except no hook to hang the shower on

Review 30:very friendly and accommodating staff and manager. Tastefully decorated and furnished room, and very clean. Nice breakfast on the front terrace with citrus trees. Very close to the Port with all the restaurants and shops.

Review 31:Anthony, the manager took care of all our needs, including unlimited water some excellent recommendations for local tavernas with traditional cooking.

Review 32:The room was a bit scantly equipped and the bathroom not only oldfashioned (which was nice), but also worn-out. Contrary to the booking information, there was no hairdryer.

Review 33:Great location, super friendly staff, very beautiful mansion with nice courtyard.

Review 34:No wifi in rooms. Hot water was not particularly hot!

Review 35:We loved the location of this hotel - very close to the port, but nicely quiet. The furnishings are simple and in keeping with the old-world charm of the building. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, while also being discreet. All in all a lovely place to escape to for a relaxing weekend.

Review 36:Was a bit quiet, as a solo traveller was difficult to meet people but this was the whole island overall and not related to the hotel or its staff.

Review 37:The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 38:Breakfast was mediocre. No hot breakfast. Yesterday's boiled eggs (cold). Low quality cheese and ham. Cheap marmelade and cake. They could definitely improve in this area. WiFi not accessible in rooms. Rooms a bit small.

Review 39:Ideal location: very central, yet quiet. Beautiful building. Nicely furnished rooms and common areas. Very polite and helpful people.

Review 40:water not able to heat up to a comfortable temperature no blankets (but with bedspread was just warm enough) couldn't work the air conditioner (for heat)

Review 41:view furniture resident pussy cat who was very affectionate hosts breakfast quiet good sized room

Review 42:Wi-Fi only in the reception area is a bit of a pain!

Review 43:This is a beautiful old building which has been maintained extremely well, and with some style. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the staff very helpful. We will be back!

Review 44:Not much but a few things would make it even better! Kettle in room as there is no room service, wifi in the rooms & bathroom could do with a bit of updating but nothing major .

Review 45:The building itself is stunning, with lovely courtyard to sit. Location is great a few minutes walk from the port with its great selection of bars & resturants. Hotel was very clean and room serviced daily., staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast included, is basic but fine. Price was very good, room had fridge as well which was useful.

Review 46:Bathroom facilities, though in good working condition, may need a bit of modernization.

Review 47:Front Desk guy, Costas was very hospitable and warm. He even recognized us outside the hotel and stopped to talk with us.

Review 48:Confusion over pricing as we had booked one standard room and one superior, which we were charged for, though we were given two standard rooms. Would stay here again.

Review 49:Old building with lots of character in a square just three minutes walk from the harbour. Lots of places to eat nearby. Rooms are spacious with big old-fashioned bathrooms. Excellent breakfast.

Review 50:No Wifi Access A bit expensive for this season (October) The breakfast

Review 51:Generally I was very happy that I stayed in this Hotel! 1. The room was HUGE 2. Very clean 3. Very beautiful and minimalistic - old style design 4. The furniture is beautiful and very well maintained.

Review 52:Wifi was poor or non-existent, yet other local cafes had excellent service, so the hotel needs to improve. No tea/coffee facilities (we love to make a morning cup of tea in our room) One male receptionist provided poor service, no personality at all

Review 53:Spacious room, fresh towels daily, good location

Review 54:Nothing.

Review 55:Just the best way to ease into a stay on Hydra. This Hotel reflected all the best qualities of Greek hospitality-kindliness, deference and courtesy with a touch of something old-fashioned in its gentility of aspect. Our room's view stretched down to the harbour and made a welcome change from the proforma look adopted by modern hotel-chains. The staff were charming and their desire to help only added to the overall pleasure and memorability of our stay. A huge recommendation.

Review 56:The bed was pretty hard, but no worse than any of the other places we stayed at in Greece. The ac didn't work great- but several other hotels we stayed at didn't have ac at all so really it was an improvement. With the windows open, it smelled a little like the donkeys a block away.

Review 57:This hotel is the nicest we had in our travels in Greece. It was clean, had great service, very good room and bathroom, and delicious breakfast. As an old mansion, the hotel helped us relax and get into the hydra groove. Plus, it was close to the port do we didn't need donkeys to get our bags there :)

Review 58:Nothing

Review 59:I travel once per week and o have never experienced such a friendly staff. Kostas helped to find a good restaurant for lunch and for diners. He was extremely helpful. You have evthg you might need on this hotel

Review 60:The breakfast was rather poor. Not much was available, nothing was local and not great value for money. Also, the fridge in the room was far too noisy and uncomfortable during the night I would say

Review 61:The staff was fantastic. Mr Kostas was so friendly and eager to help and answer any of our questions. The location is gold and the overall cleanliness and feel of the hotel was brilliant. thank you

Review 62:The breakfest could have had more options. The wifi was annoying but none of this had a big impact on our stay.

Review 63:The staff was very nice we were greated by Kostas at arrival and he was very nice. The location was very good close to the main area. There was a supermarket right next door and a minifridge in the room which was very nice. I would recommend this hotel.

Review 64:Great value for money hotel, literally 2 minutes of walk from the port of Hydra, close to everything, very good breakfast, spacious rooms cleaned every day. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. P.s. Hydra is a magnificent romantic island.

Review 65:The staff were amazing...always so friendly and happy to help. I wasn't there long but they made a point of remembering my name. They can also tell you the best spots to eat for an authentic Greek experience and speak English well. The room was basic but very clean and an easy walk to everything. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Review 66:Location was good, staff very helpful and friendly, rooms small but cosy and clean with a view over the village and sea. And as stated, loved hearing the donkeys passing by our window.

Review 67:Beautiful quiet location in a gorgeous square minutes from the port, pleasant helpful staff, as much as you can eat breakfast, classic Greek decor, comfortable bed, great value. Would highly recommend.

Review 68:No complaints. My only observation is that the breakfast (included) was the typical fare provided at Greek hotels. Pleasant but unremarkable. If the Hydrousssa wanted to set themselves apart they might think about making the most of the courtyard setting and offer a bit fancier food with a bit more variety. Barely a quibble though.

Review 69:Unpretentious yet stylish accommodations in a sedate setting with a entry courtyard that faces a quiet town square with plantings located 5 minutes stroll from the busy harbor front. Breakfast in the courtyard was a particularly nice experience. Professional, helpful staff. Nice solid older building with quiet rooms. Rooms face out from a U-shaped floor plan so I would imagine most of the rooms have a pleasant view, as did ours. One of the better lodgings during our recent 2 1/2 week vacation in Greece. A very good value.

Review 70:Wifi only available in the lobby.

Review 71:We really loved this place. Old mansion, well restored with great character and modern bathrooms (yay). The location was excellent and easy to find - a short flat walk from the port. Staff were friendly and efficient. Rooms were simple but very comfortable and spacious furnished with simple but elegant older style wooden furniture in keeping with the style of the building (not dark clunky pieces).

Review 72:Hydroussa had everything except an outside place to lounge in. Infront of the hotel there were tables and chairs but it would have been nice to lounge outside. Also, if you can not climb stairs , this may not be the best place to go

Review 73:Hydroussa hotel is centrally located with an old world feel. Our first night we stayed in a superior room which was large and extremely comfortable. For the two other nights we had booked a less expensive room which was just as comfortable although smaller. The hotel was clean with all new bathrooms and quite luxurious

Review 74:Facilities not renovated since 1960

Review 75:Location is AAA

Review 76:Location, friendliness, relaxed atmosphere, renovated room.

Review 77:Excellent location in a wonderful setting

Review 78:We have stayed before and love ithe hotels elegant charm. Beautiful, quiet area and a short walk to the port. The staff very caring.

Review 83:Top location and surroundings. Helpful friendly staff.

Review 84:There was no wifi in our room only close to the reception.

Review 85:The atmosphere of the property and location

Review 86:Great staff! We will come back!

Review 87:Wifi was not great but doable

Review 88:Very helpful and nice staff, great location and free breakfast

Review 89:Very friendly hosts

Review 90:When we asked for a map of the island, staff gave us a print-out Google map which was useless for us.

Review 91:Nice, clean hotel, good breakfast

Review 92:Beautiful colonial setting, spacious room with good view.

Review 93:Perfect place to stay.

Review 94:Wifi available in lobby but did not work in room.

Review 95:Very welcoming staff, great location, classic facility with new bathroom.

Review 96:Great welcome and was made to feel at home and very comfortable by Costas and Antonis and their team. Great hotel for women travelling alone.

Review 97:rooms a bit small

Review 98:impressive exterior with courtyard helpful staff good breakfast in lovely dining room

Review 99:Excellent staff and good A/C

Review 100:Great mix of older charm and basic. Nothing over the top or silly. Beautiful building, clean, historic. The perfect place for our holiday.

Review 101:No eggs for breakfast!

Review 102:Location, manager.

Review 103:The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 104:Brilliant location and a beautiful hotel, with lovely rooms overlooking Hydra. I would highly recommend it.

Review 105:Staff very welcoming and helpful. Basic but clean, functional rooms, good breakfast and eating patio

Review 106:WiFi connection could be improved, so could breakfast!

Review 107:Nice hotel with great location - could easily go back!

Review 108:Stairs but they did help with bags when they saw us struggling.

Review 109:Position was great

Review 110:Really nice (compared to a lot of places in Greece) breakfast buffet with fruits and dried fruit and nuts as well as cheese and ham and toast. Very friendly and helpful staff. A beautiful old house, yet tastefully modernised.

Review 111:Unique building; very elegant rooms; staying in this hotel you can trully feel the aristocratic past of Hydra. Very friendly and accomodating staff; they allowed us to stay till late afternoon without extra charge and they even gave us free breakfast vouchers for my parents-in-law who were staying elsewere and their hotel was not serving breakfast! Many thanks for everything!

Review 112:Abscence of balcony.

Review 113:Very kind and helpful staff (Kostas). Very nice old buildning, incl furnishing and other interior. Nice garden. Good breakfast. Quiet location.

Review 114:Wow what a gem ! the hotel certainly was a pleasant surprise, a step in the past. Beautiful hotel in beautiful setting. Well done to the the team at the hotel for making our stay so comfortable

Review 115:hotel is without balcony and without lift so if you have small children or you are in chair with wheels, better to choose a different hotel, breakfast was very simple and still same so if you stay for one week or more you will not know what to choose........the island Hydra isn`t children friendly island, you will not find any children`s playground or other entertaiment for children

Review 116:not far from the port, hairdryer

Review 117:Breakfast not very diversified / traditional products.

Review 118:Lovely, traditional setting with a beautiful terrace and lemon tree garden just in front. Very close to the port but well sheltered from the noise. Delicious fish restaurant just in front - a must return place!

Review 119:Hard mattresses

Review 120:We stayed in a few places on Hydra but think that this hotel is the best choice. It is a lovely building with a great courtyard and the breakfasts are good!

Review 121:Breakfasts could be more diverse.

Review 122:Everything, from friendly and responsive personnel to the tidy, elegant and spacy rooms. There is a terrace in front of the hotel where you can have breakfast or sit with a laptop. The building is a three-minute walk from the port, but it is far enough to stay away from the busy area. I passed eight nights at this hotel and I would certainly stay there again.

Review 123:The Hydroussa is excellent value for money. The breakfast is very good with a variety of choices. The staff is cordial and in Greek fashion efficient but uncommunicative. The location is excellent being removed from the busy port. The courtyard is extremely pleasant and a great place to relax. This is my second stay and I would recommend the hotel to friends and family.
