Reviews for Riviera Hotel

Review 1:The hotel is badly in need of refurbishing. The wet room in the disabled room was truly that. There was no room to shower without soaking the entire room. The room itself was extremely cramped, especially for a wheelchair user! An ocean view was promised, but the "accessible" rooms are on the far end of the hotel with not much view of anything.

Review 2:Breakfast was good and staff were friendly.

Review 3:There's nothing I didn't like

Review 4:Everything and all the staff and the rooms were excellent and the service in the restaurant was excellent I was more than satisfied Thankyou.

Review 5:Toilets filthy in female swimming area, can't blame hotel it's the people that use them. Made me heave someone had not pulled chain and poohed everywhere.

Review 6:Lovely stay staff very welcoming , good breakfast great service rooms clean lovely views across bowleze.

Review 7:The staff where all very welcoming and friendly, especially the ladies in reception, the rooms where warm, comfortable, clean and tidy with good facilities, and the gymnasium and swimming pool excellent and for me an enjoyable walk to Weymouth along the seafront, I will definitely try and stay again in the future.

Review 8:(The weather but that is out of our hands) so nothing was wrong as we were looked after.

Review 9:The room was clean and modern. My wife and I have stayed here before and I think the bathroom was updated from the previous rooms.

Review 10:No atmosphere in bar area which was cold as heating was not on. Also no soft furnishings in the bar. Booked a room with view but the ground floor windows have frosted glass!!!!!!!

Review 11:very good and helpful staff and excellent food. lovely indoor pool very clean through out.

Review 12:We had no hot water in shower on first night and we had the beer cooler behind our bedroom which they didn't turn off at night like they should have so we had a buzzing all night. The bar closed at 10pm on the first night and on our second night the bar closed at 9.30pm,we had a long walk into weymouth on our return to the hotel we asked for a pot of tea the young person that served us gave us 3 cups a pot of tea pot of milk and sugar BUT no saucer's

Review 13:Some of the reviews might put people from going there but it was a reasonable place to stay in January. Weymouth can be very busy in the summer time and impossible to park where other hotels are located.

Review 14:was at the hotel from Saturday- Tuesday place was reasonable and I choose the location as it had a parking area rather than staying at a place that I could not park in central Weymouth

Review 15:Told restaurant opened until 9 pm. Went for a meal at 7.45 restaurant closed. Very old sock found under bed, not ours. Bathroom facillities not good i.e. cistern filling all night, Shower handle came off in the hand. Very deep bath no safety mat inside. No handles in bath to help you to get out. Cleaners, although very helpful were very late coming to our "chalet". This Hotel is little better than a rundown Holiday camp.

Review 16:not a lot. The receptionist who booked us in was very helpful and polite.

Review 17:The view was awful just grass we had to wait 30mins after checking in at 3pm as the room wasnt ready.when we went for breakfast the 1st morning we had to stand for 10mins as no tables was cleaned so we cleaned a table ourselves.Think the prices our expensive but enjoyed our stay

Review 18:This was our 2nd time staying in 6wks the room was nice and spacious.

Review 19:The bed was a little uncomfortable but every thing else was brilliant.

Review 20:We liked the swimming pool, sauna & steam room we really enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 21:Stayed in one of the rear rooms, very comfortable but area not that well lit as we had another guest trying to get in at 2:30 in morning, passed without incident. This year hotel had a good attendance but it was under staffed at breakfast and I did make my view known to reception staff.

Review 22:Great price for a new year stay.

Review 23:Gaps in the windows which made the front door bang even when it was shut! No hot water in the shower. Overpriced New Year's Eve party. Still waiting for a refund!

Review 24:Staff weren't very attentive, waited ages at breakfast to be aknowledged and seated, staff just walked past ignoring us. Not enough r staff on at breakfast to get drinks etc. felt overpriced for the level of customer service

Review 25:Nice rooms, clean, warm and comfortable

Review 26:The steam room wasn't very good and the breakfast wasn't very organised.

Review 27:The hotel room was lovely and very warm, pool and sauna was nice also.

Review 28:Steam room needs updated and door fixing Not appropriate level of heating in room 218 Cleaning products were pungent.. Coffee was very poor and not worth the money Organisation of staff on nye and new years day ...poor Hairdryer in room very dated and dangerous ....got my hair caught and had to cut it away... due to busy nye weekend. ..completely forgot to mention before I left. Aside from this...the nye party was fun ...the grounds are nice and the room was nicely cleaned and smart...we had a good time with friends there....

Review 29:Pool and gym and sauna And new shower room in bedroom

Review 30:Loved the location. Fab view of the sea. Staff very friendly. Room very modern and clean. Breakfast was very nice. This is our 3rd visit for a short break and will definitely recommend the hotel.

Review 31:No entertainment. Main restaurant closed. Bar and restaurant closed at lunchtime. Ballroom closed. So a very boring time apart from the lovely staff and young couple we spent time with.

Review 32:Very nice food. But overpriced and not much choice.

Review 33:Shower control didn't work, WiFi spasmodic and difficult to connect to in room

Review 34:Scenic location, efforts to update rooms, helpful and friendly check in staff, good value for money

Review 35:Rooms were cold and damp, shower in bathroom never work, nor did the tv very well. building very old as its art deco, but could do with a re vamp as the last was done in 2009. building looks tired.

Review 36:Restaurant excellent

Review 37:Nothing negative to write, we had a wonderful stay.

Review 38:The most amazing view from our room. The rooms were recently re-decorated, very clean and modern with an art-deco feel. Breakfast was great and the leisure facilities were so relaxing.

Review 39:Front of house need to visit rooms before sending guest to room we was relocated twice first single bed for couple then second room no view as promise when I upgraded price

Review 40:only downside was on returning to the hotel at 10-30pm we were unable to get a drink to take to the room as the bar was closed

Review 41:the quiet location and the amazing views across to Weymouth but Weymouth was only a short taxi ride away. the hotel had good leisure facilities of an indoor pool, sauna and steam room with an outdoor pool for seasonal use.

Review 42:Read the first come ts

Review 43:Nothing the staff were indifferent room was tiny no bath ,breakfast was a disaster ,over cooked cold ,coffee was stale ,waitress was scruffy, as were the reception staff ,never again

Review 44:The reception staff were a bit unhelpful and not very welcoming. The shower felt like it was hanging off the wall and turned off halfway through for no reason.

Review 45:The rooms were clean and tidy and the restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 46:amazing staff amazing location, it's a bit far out from town center but i like that, has the beach and good views from the cliff top and a really nice art deco hotel my 2nd time back

Review 47:Room was a bit cramped and the bed not the most comfortable. Could hear quite a lot in the next room.

Review 48:Fab location and great views - staff were brill even when I turned up well before booking in time. Good bathroom

Review 49:The room was nice and spacious bathroom perfect shower outstanding.Bed was big and comfy nice size TV on Wall.Thought it was a nice touch coming back to our room after a day out and seeing the receptionist going around all the rooms making sure the heaters was on.Breakfast was absolutely amazing ad the scrambled egg was out this world. Can't wait to come back and stay new years eve with another couple.

Review 50:Very short staffed in the restaurant only one poor guy doing the bar taking food orders and serving the food. Breakfast wasnt hot only luke warm .

Review 51:Liked the room and the location food was good in the evening when we eventually got served

Review 52:The breakfast on the second morning was disgusting, the bacon tasted off, and the hash brown was frozen in the middle. We were also told at the reception area that the restaurant was open at 1730 but when we went for a meal was told it did not open till 1800, so we went to the Harvester down the road.

Review 53:The room was clean, the bed was really good and the bathroom was clean.

Review 54:The room was very cold when we arrived, only a small oil filled radiator to heat it, which we left on when we went out at about 6.30, making sure we did not remove the electricity card. Got back about 11.30 and the room was still cold and the duvet was thin and no blankets in the cupboard. As we were tired we did not chase after blankets from reception, so slept in most of our clothes. The bathroom is nice, but only lit by two downlighters and a light over the mirror, which was not working so very difficult to shave. Was told that the whole light unit needed replacing and they were waiting for the funding, not much help to me. In the morning the loo would not flush away.

Review 55:Lovely building in a great position. Indoor swimming pool a nice feature.

Review 56:the size of the rooms was rediculous, could hardly move, the bed took up all the room, the tv was hung on the side wall so very hard to see when laying in bed.we could see daylight coming through the door frame of our room.. Had dinner here and half of what i wanted was run out.breakfast was good, but run out of pastries for 2 days not good because thats all i eat for breakfast.there is nowhere to sit and just have a quiet drink.theres a lobby with about 4 tables and thats all.if you want a drink you have to sit with the diners.not good at all.

Review 57:the cleaning of the room was very good,

Review 58:The lack of care from staff with issues, I had no hot water in my room and the staff did nothing to help, I had to rings up 3 times to remind them about it over a 3 hour time gap.

Review 59:Free car parking

Review 60:There was a female member of staff, who rudely interupted our check in, this was to demand that the receptionist type up some information for her, so rude, very discourtious and total lack of respect to the receptionist, this spoilt our visit from the outset.

Review 61:View and location

Review 62:The bed was uncomfortable and the room looked like it needed some tlc walls could've done with a lick of paint and cobwebs, the sheets were dirty. The pool was lovely but steam room used to be much nicer a few years back ?

Review 63:The beach

Review 64:The room was so cold, with gaps around the outer door and single pane windows.. It felt damp because it was so cold.. The cot bed that was set up was really unstable, the sides were wobbly and my girl was more entertained with rattling the wobbly structure than sleeping. Not ideal at all. The room was not suitable for a family stay, as the other guests may as well have been in our room having a chat, they are not soundproof rooms at all. I shan't return with family.

Review 65:bathroom was modern, decor and furniture was lovely My room had been moved from a single with cot to a twin prior to my arrival as there had been a function below the single rooms part of the hotel, which I considered to be excellent forward planning and customer service, well done that receptionist.. Considerate staff are to your merit. The breakfast had plenty of choice and the poached eggs I had to order were spot on.

Review 66:regarding room 130 entering the bath is difficult also difficult to adjust the water from outside the bath shower due to access ridiculous really builder must have had a brain storm better a complete shower closet

Review 67:clean tidy room heated pool ex views

Review 68:The view point at the back of the hotel is fab for star gazing on a clear night. It was great because we were able to bring our dog. The breakfast is great value @ £5.00 for all you can eat !

Review 69:The staff very helpful, the views stunning, value great. Good parking no charge. Service in the dining room excellent and breakfast choice brilliant and individually cooked (except on Sunday's when it's self service.)

Review 70:We felt the layout of part of the resort could be laid out better as people have to walk through the dinning room to get to rooms upstairs. On coming to dinning room for evening meal to be told kitchen was closed early due to a function they where doing food for in their function room was bang out of order then they said reception should of let us know. Very bad customer service. After coming back to our room late afternoon only to find a cleaner in the room that late is not good then she said she was almost finished but when going in the bathroom had not been touched. In the bathroom the shower was hanging out the wall and very very poor water pressure The TV in the room didn't work properly no channels then no sound

Review 71:The swimming pool was ok

Review 72:When me and my partner went for breakfast we were seated and order taken. a further 2 couples came in with children and they had their breakfasts before us and were given toast where as we had to ask for toast

Review 73:The room was covered in thick cobwebs everywhere & heavy dust all over the skirting boards. During over four night stay our room was 'cleaned' once without changing bedsheets or indeed making the bed (I believe the cups and towels were the only thing chancged). There was a serious mould problem in the bathroom which happened to be right at head height in the shower. Zero power on the shower itself. Mould again on the windows in bedroom. The furniture was lovely BUT way too much for the size of the room and as a result we both banged our shins on the every sharp bed corner. The place looks fav on the outside but fails to deliver in an epic scale!

Review 74:Despite to some reviews I read about the Reviera, I have to say, it was very nice. Friendly stuff, clean, lovely leisure center. Breakfast was absolutely ok and the location is perfect We definitely come back

Review 75:Was expecting a hotel, but the rooms were set out like butlins shalets. Nice decor inside but still a bit off putting.

Review 76:Location is beautiful, and staff are friendly and relaxed.

Review 77:Although the food in the restaurant was well cooked and reasonably priced, the restaurant lacked atmosphere.

Review 78:The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was beautiful and the views amazing.

Review 79:Room wasn't ready when we got there even though we were given the key! Exterior of property needs work, the door to our room was awful, paint flaking off. Toilet kept flushing when we first turned up, they repaired it but left the panel to the cistern off all the time

Review 80:Inside of room was good, bar and pool nice, breakfast good

Review 81:I didn't like the fact that the breakfast was extremely greasy and quite poor. Our room was not cleaned and I had to ask for towels on the second day. Upon check out the receptionist took the key and didn't even ask us if everything had been ok! She said "you are all checked out now"! No goodbye no thank you no hope to see you again. I was appalled and to be honest that let the hotel down. The receptionist that checked us in was friendly and accommodating. So it was a shame to leave feeling like this. Customer service is important especially in this current climate. I would think twice about returning as this did upset me.

Review 82:The location was excellent, and the facilities were good.

Review 83:The only thing that let my experience of this hotel down was seeing the poor young lady at breakfast rushing around on her own trying to please everyone while other staff members came by to charge there coffee mugs!

Review 84:The location was very good, possibly the biggest hotel in weymouth? it served it purpose, my partner was more taken aback with the property for its charm, i kept thinking about the premier in up the road for the price we paid.

Review 85:closing the room door noisy with the type of locking system but still wouldn't put us off staying again

Review 86:excellent from start to finish will be defiantly book again next year

Review 87:still very pontins style even after all the money spent on it. very quiet, bed very squeeky.rusty safty pin stuck in carpet.

Review 88:breakfast was good. morning breakfast staff very helpfull.

Review 89:The corners on the bed were sharp and because there wasn't a lot of room I kept knocking my legs. The place is in need of a facelift outside.

Review 90:the Hotel was clean, our room was clean and fresh, the bed was a lovely size and comfortable. All the Staff were polite and friendly and also helpful.

Review 91:The mattress was lumpy and beyond its useful life. Change it and all would be fine. Lockers would be better if placed in the changing rooms. Some limited food options on the menu, which was a pity because if all of the choices had been available we would have been much happier.

Review 92:The location is great for us, remote from the noise and bustle of the main town but easy access via a regular bus service or nice walk.

Review 93:I had a single room and it was very small. The single bed was very low to the ground. I felt like I was sleeping in someone's spare room. Once again a hotel that has refurbished half the hotel but gives rooms always in the old section.

Review 94:Great restaurant on premises

Review 95:Restaurant staff didn't ask if we wanted dessert. Had to ask for wine bucket. Breakfast was warm and plates were cold. Staff not aware of decaff and fruit teas on offer.

Review 96:Quirky hotel but very clean and comfortable. Superb views

Review 97:The breakfast was poor could have been given a better selection and overall didn't taste great.

Review 98:Room was avalible earlier than expected, and was comfy and clean, staff was very helpful in everything that we needed

Review 99:Room facilities lacking had to ask for the remote for TV not enough milk portions couldn't open the one window available.

Review 100:Nice location have stayed before.

Review 101:We had to go outside to get to the room. Kept waiting for someone to shout Hi-De-Hi! over the tannoy. Looks like a converted holiday camp.

Review 102:We were attending a do at the hotel so it seemed logical to stay there too.

Review 103:Overall a bit shabby - you can tell it was previously a Pontins. Plug in electric heater in one of the rooms as the fitted heater did not work - this was noisy and needed adjusting during the night. Miserable trickle of very hot water from the shower with no effective adjustment meaning that to wash hair took ages. We travelled with my mum who is in her 80s. I thought I had booked her a ground floor room but turned out all the single rooms are on the first floor which was not ideal. Also her room was allocated at the far end of the hotel from ours (which was a double on the ground floor). Mum's room was at the end of the building adjacent to the function rooms where a noisy wedding continued into the early hours preventing her from getting to sleep. Breakfast was ok but the attention from staff was a bit lacking - one fill of coffee, no refill without asking, no teaspoons on the tables... The owner ha apparently spent several million pounds on refurbishing this old 1930s Pontins to try to turn it into a smart hotel. It has character but little charm. Thankfully the staff are fairly helpful and make up for that a bit although they aren't exactly on the ball - you could almost be in Spain - mañana ...

Review 104:Nice location overlooking the bay and a short drive into Weymouth town. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools - would be especially nice in the warm summer weeks. Probably a good location for kids with ample grassy space to run around, sandy beach a stones throw away and a fun fair just along the road. We stayed to attend a family birthday lunch in the function room overlooking the bay. The staff did a good job of arranging and hosting the event. The room and tables were set out and dressed very nicely. Liz was especially helpful.

Review 105:On the night of our stay, every member of staff except one, bless him,had been called away from the bar/restaurant to help with afunction which was going on upstairs. This gave us the impression thatwe were not as valued as customers as the function people. The onemember of staff who was left to do all the restaurant duties really hadhis work cut out.

Review 106:Location of the hotel is good and if we had had a sea view would haveguaranteed a return visit.

Review 107:A bit chilly first thing in the morning and could do with a lick of paint in rooms

Review 108:Excellent location with stunning views. Restaurant looked lovely (although we didn't eat here). Rooms were well equipped and comfy,

Review 109:The room was full of cobwebs the bed was so squeeky it desturbd us both the mirror was crackd and broken and none of the windows would open

Review 110:The staff are very friendly and helpfull the swimming pool and gym are exellent

Review 111:Th mattresses were pretty bad so woke up with a bad back

Review 112:Really loved the room! It was very well done and super clean, couldn't possibly ask for more :)

Review 113:Bed rock hard and really uncomfortable Noisy Housekeeper didn't come every day

Review 114:Reception staff very friendly and helpful Close to Bowleaze cove beach

Review 115:Maybe they could make breakfast a full buffet one where by you help your self to exactly what you want. This is not a complaint against the dining room staff there services was excellent and they couldn't do enough for you. That type of breakfast is my own personal choice.

Review 116:The politeness of all the staff, it was absolutely spotlessly clean and the food was excellent, the heating in my room was fantastic lovely and warm, and it was not limited, I had complete control over how and when I wanted it on, which makes it even more comfortable.

Review 117:The Holiday chalet feel with the outside doors and the fact they were decorating the outside of the hotel so didn't look that great; sanded down windows and doors!

Review 118:The restaurant staff were fabulous both in the evening and at breakfast

Review 119:Some minor issues with the recent bathroom refurbishment in our room, but nothing major.

Review 120:Unique 1930's style hotel with indoor + outdoor pool and great beach-front location.

Review 121:Lack of sound proofing between rooms & windows, we could hear everything! Disappointed that the Al la carte menu wasn't being served when it was advertised on the board & the bar menu didn't have everything on offer, we went out instead to the town for something to eat.

Review 122:The view was lovely & the staff were friendly & approachable. The rooms have been revamped but still lots of on going maintenance that we weren't made aware of before booking.

Review 123:Given that the hotel was less than half empty was very disappointed to be given a room at the back with the contractors who like to hang out on the balcony on the phone smoking and swearing. On returning from an evening out, wasn't the most pleasant sight walking past a couple of the older contractors walking about in just their pants with theroom door wide open.

Review 124:Location

Review 125:Terrible first night caused by the guests in the room next to us shouting and causing lots of noise into early hours of the morning so we never managed to get alot of sleep and my partner is pregnant. This was unacceptable.

Review 126:Brilliant service, lovely food and bar staff very friendly. Great on site activities such as the gym, pool and restaurant/bar.

Review 127:No guest directory in the room. Room door very tired (could see daylight around the edges). Bathroom mirror light not working, tv remote plus buttons for both channel and volume not working. If you are looking for an undisrurbed (no tesidue noise from neighbouring rooms) look elsewhere, most rooms appear to be chalet style so lack insulation from above, below and next door.

Review 128:Easy to find, bathroom decor.

Review 129:Not a bad experience but there could be signs up asking people to be considerate of others. We were next to some noisy people who kept banging their door a lot during the night. Also we parked at the back and there was no light, very dangerous when trying to walk from the car park and climbing up and down the steps.

Review 130:It was a lovely hotel although we were at the back, the room was still very nice.

Review 131:woken up in the middle of the night to residents jumping in the pool- no sign of a member of staff to address situation. this went on for 30 mins at 3 am... not much sleep had after this. apparently the night porter tried to get them out, but with no managers assistance failed... we didn't see or hear anyone trying to get them out! On check out, was informed of no manager on premesis, no duty manager ever on shift and No one there to deal with my complaint. my partner then filled in a form with feedback however am assuming the form would have been screwed up and thrown away due to there being no manager ever.... Has the potential to be a great hotel, however it is is tired and run down. in our room the toilet did not flush properly, the shower was just a dribble and the bed was rock solid. it needs some serious tlc and obviously a managers presence... as we left feeling like it didn't matter about how we were feeling... When we come to the Weymouth next year, I will not even consider the Rivera... Ive seen better 2 star properties...

Review 132:location

Review 133:Dirty shower, hairs in bath, mould surrounding windows, only bar snacks available for Saturday night meal, peeling paint, lack of staff to clear tables, only a small seating area for drinks.

Review 134:Location and the helpfulness of Karl in the morning when we complained.

Review 135:lighting in car park should have been better just a single light on at bottom of drive it should be increased.

Review 136:The location was great easy access to local sites parking was also very good Food was excellent.

Review 137:we were refused evening meals because they had upstairs funcions which was very poor on there part as they should of employed extra kitchen staff to cope with the demand! The responce from staff was 0% We were made to feel As paying guests dont really matter!!! This truly spoilt my birthday weekend
