Reviews for Hotel De La Plage
Review 1:We were late getting there so it was difficult to fit everything in but we slept well and enjoyed the little time we spent thee
Review 2:The surroundings were good nice beach close by. Enjoyed my breakfast kettle in bedroom so we had a late cup of tea and were able to take the dog for a walk before we left
Review 3:It took us ages to find the hotel - the map wasn't very clear.
Review 4:The comfort and cosiness of the room and hotel - all decorated in a pretty french style.
Review 5:A bit concerned about lack of fire escape from second floor and no smoke alarms in room
Review 6:Very pleasant and friendly staff. Excellent position with respect to beach, public transport, ferry terminal and shops.
Review 7:The proximity of this hotel to the Port. It is not a five star hotel, it's a two star. So one gets what one pays for. The WIFI was excellent and the bed clean and comfortable. Great little fish restaurant on the corner,a stones throw away.
Review 8:We thought the breakfast could have been a bit more adventurous but the service was very good.
Review 9:The rooms were very pretty and spotlessly clean. We were given a very warm welcome.
Review 10:The room was clean, comfortable, and warm. Wifi and internet were OK ( a bit weak at times). En-suite bathroom was clean. Location is easy to find, close to the beach, ferry terminal, and centre of town for shops and restaurants. Owner was friendly and helpful.
Review 11:nothing
Review 12:friendly greeting on arrival by the owner who helped carry my case up the stairs. The following morning when I left to put my luggage in the car a seagull had managed to leave its mark all over one side of bonnet and the owner brought a bucket of water and cleaned it all off for me, that's what I call going above and beyond hospitality!
Review 13:There was a slight difficulty getting out with our bags early in the morning to catch the ferry.
Review 14:We liked the convenient location and the fact that it was in a very quiet road. It was spotlessly clean and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. We liked the fact that we could have the window open at night without feeling insecure. We were glad to be able to park off the road.
Review 15:The room was somewhat tired and in need of upgrade. We got the sense that the owners were doing up the place - nice balcony at front and nice looking from the road - so we expect they know that. Had we stayed longer the room would have been inadequate but for one night when we just wanted to lay our heads down before the boat the next morning there was no real issue.
Review 16:Excellent location. Helpful staff. Price. Parking off road. Spotless bedding.
Review 17:Halfway through the evening the drains in our bathroom started to smell, probably all the rain affecting something. We had to keep the bathroom window open and the door closed. I didn't inform the management as a) I spoke no French, b) He spoke no English & c) I wasn't staying there long.
Review 18:We stayed here in a three person room the night before we caught the ferry home. It was raining heavily and we had an early start so this was little more than a stop over and an evening meal out on the town. For those purposes it was fine. The décor was good but a little tired. Everything was stylised as shabby chic but tended towards the former rather than the latter. Nice large en-suite shower with a constant stream of hot water. Easy to park. Beds were comfortable.
Review 19:On arrival the exterior of the hotel Is quite grand looking. However the interior requires updating. The room was very tired looking and in need of refurbishing.
Review 20:Ideal for catching ferry
Review 21:The shower head had to be hand held as it wouldn't fit into the holder. The room looked tired, in the bathroom, certain items were rusty. A shower mat would have made showering more comfortable, and not slipping.
Review 22:The convenience of the hotel to restaurants
Review 23:Bathroom in need of refurbishment.
Review 24:This hotel is conveniently located less than10 mins drive from the car ferry and within walking distance of several cafes and restaurants. The staff were friendly and accommodating.
Review 25:being able to hear other people's tvs.
Review 26:Very friendly couple run this hotel and always ask if bed and room are comfortable. The patio with chairs, etc is lovely and a wonderful for picnic lunch and watching the world go by. it is very near the beach and Riva Centre, bus service and Carrefour. the street - Avenue Pasteur is pretty. The bathroom was excellent - always clean and great shower. This is the biggest room we have ever had in France!
Review 27:The rooms had no telephones. On the day of our departure from two single rooms, I returned to my room about an hour before checkout to find maids already cleaning it and changing the linen; I found that somewhat offensive and when I mentioned it at checkout the person on the desk more or less said so what.
Review 28:Wasn't so keen on the stairs they were spiral without a proper rail could be an issue for some. Would have rated this excellent if it had air conditioning
Review 29:I like the kettle in the room, it was clean, bed was comfortable and the owner gave us excellent advice on where to eat for an evening meal. Car park small but adequate
Review 30:Nothing not to like.
Review 31:Quaint hotel in excellent location by the beach and restaurants of Ouistreham. 5 mins drive from the ferry port. Friendly, helpful receptionist.
Review 32:There was nothing we didn't like at this Hotel
Review 33:Location was excellent - all facilities were what we wanted - very helpful staff - breakfast and service were superb
Review 34:Convenient location for ferry port and for bus to Caen train station, Friendly welcome and a cool beer on the terrace on arrival, even though it was late in the evening.
Review 35:The room was a tad small, but opened out on to the front patio.
Review 36:Perfect for a one night stay, close to the town and the beach, and for visiting war cemeteries.
Review 37:Very welcoming and given a choice of rooms. Very clean and comfortable and only a short walk from the seafront and restaurants in a quiet residential street. Didn't take breakfast as we had an early Ferry departure. Off-road parking a bonus.
Review 38:I made the mistake of booking a triple room, in case the standard double bed was too small. We were given a family room (double plus bunk beds) which looked more basic than the other double & triple bedrooms which we saw (we had an entertaining, completely detachable, plastic loo seat!) However, the double bed was perfectly comfortable, facilities entirely adequate, Madame friendly & helpful & location (minutes from the ferry & a street away from the centre) ideal. Would consider using again if a better room was available.
Review 39:Pleasant terrace at the front, pretty garden at the back, central but quiet location.
Review 40:The lack of onsite parking. There is only parking for 7 cars. The hotel has 16 bedrooms and the road outside was full apart from late in the evening.
Review 41:Owners pleasant and there is a comfortable terrace outside but with only 7 seats. The garden was not accessible during our stay of 2 days.
Review 42:Nothing
Review 43:Very comfortable and well appointed rooms. Great breakfast. Very close to beach, museums , shops and good restaurants. Very handy for ferry which was 5 minutes away.
Review 44:Breakfast didn't start until 7:30 am at which time we had to leave, so we had to wait until we boarded the ferry to eat.
Review 45:The hotel was only 5 minutes drive from the ferry and close to the beach. The road in which it is situated is residential and quiet, but the next street to it is full of shops, cafés and restaurants. The staff were welcoming and the rooms clean.
Review 46:Nothing!
Review 47:The owner was welcoming and efficient. The room was to our liking and unlike a number of other budget hotels, had tea/coffe making facilities. Is very convenient to restuarants and shops. Will definitely use again.
Review 48:this hotel takes pets, it should not ! He does not like dogs and does not want them even using his car park.(I am a committed poo bag man ) Does not bother to do an early breakfast for ferry passengers> Best suited for others than Brits.
Review 49:position was excellent,100 m from beach.
Review 50:Nothing.(Well it did rain one day Ha! Ha!).
Review 51:Pleasant hosts, comfortable and nice breakfast. Sites and Ferry port within easy reach. Will certainly return.
Review 52:In retrospect we should have paid the night before as we had to leave at 7am to catch the ferry home. There was no one on reception to take our money so we placed it on an envelope and placed behind the counter.
Review 53:Great location, friendly staff and clean, spacious room. We stopped here after getting a late ferry, so stopped overnight before heading off the next day to Burgundy. A good hotel so much so we booked for the night before our early ferry home!
Review 54:TV didn't work. Didn't spend enough time in room for this to matter.
Review 55:Charming building and gardens. Great location close to beach, shops and dining.
Review 56:Great location and close to the wonderful beaches. Staff were very friendly, hotel and room was very clean and spacious. A great stopover for catching the ferry!
Review 57:The car park was a bit tight getting into and out of. The bathroom had a drainy smell.
Review 58:The location near Sword beach was excellent and it was ideal for the early morning ferry.
Review 59:The hotel was in an excellent location for Brittany Ferries and our trip to the Uk. We would definiately stay there again, the staff were very friendly and it was great to have a kettle in the room for tea and coffee.
Review 60:We enjoyed our short stay, as we were going to catch the cross ferry boat. The lady who dealt with our booking was very cheerful and helpful. The room and premises were lovely, we would definitely like to return.
Review 61:This is a place I will not stay again, been there for two nights in asmany days, on my second night the payment machine didn't accept mycompany card, the lady tried three times and didn't work, I madethe comment that it was strange because I was pretty sure there wasnothing wrong with the card, for my astonishment the Lady replied, maybe you've been spending too much on substantialtransactions......what kind of comment is this.... Then tried adifferent card also didn't work, so went to a cash machine triedboth with cash withdrawals and both worked fine, went back to theHotel, said to the Lady, I think you have an issue with your machine, again, this Lady was determined to upset me stating, there's adifferent system for cash withdrawals and other sort ofpayments.....really ? Twenty years travelling to Europe on monthlybasis never came across this.....in the end I was told, maybe there isa communication problem.....shouldn't be this the start of theconversation, anyway didn't like it and won't return
Review 62:Good value for money and location, minutes walking from restaurants andof course the Ferry Terminal.
Review 63:As I was staying 2 nights, I happened to come back from breakfast and room was being cleaned.Didnt really mind that but I did notice they washed the tea cups in the en suite sink, ! Is this normal practice in France! Sorry to criticise such a happy place.
Review 64:Lovely character house.Madame is charming and the patron is quite a character.Very helpul and obliging Breakfast was good and plentiful in a dinning room overlooking the garden.
Review 65:Parking area is a bit tight. Only room for about 8 cars. Some early morning noise from rubbish collection but can't happen every day.
Review 66:Nearness to ferry port. Also close to pedestrianised street with many shops and restaurants, as well as beach.. A small hotel in old house typical of seaside towns in this area. Receptionist friendly and helpful. Insisted on carrying my overnight case upstairs for me.
Review 67:The hotel on our first night, which we had booked through Booking.com; and the fact that we arrived unexpectedly on our last night in France and asked to stay again for that one night and were warmly greeted.
Review 68:Room was very small. Bed matrass, although comfortable, was ill-fitting to base, creating a 'slope'.
Review 69:Situated in a quiet residential street it is an ideally located both for ferry terminal and restaurants. Parking may be difficult in busy 'high' season Lady on reception was most helpful. Room was not overpriced for the facilities on offer
Review 70:Very rude man serving at breakfast. Breakfast not great quality, not fresh
Review 71:Friendly lady on check in Beautiful rooms, very large and comfortable. Quiet, good night's sleep
Review 72:the noisy neighbours who need to close their car doors loudly and frequently. Also breakfast is served from 07.30 which is no good at all if you have booked the early ferry (08.30)
Review 73:the private car park
Review 74:So why never go back ? The hotel was booked primarily as dog friendly. A prominent male member in reception was certainly not dog friendly. We were made uncomfortable on arrival, and again on departure ...his manner to us and other guests at breakfast was arrogant and careless. Thoroughly unpleasant.
Review 75:The building and the gardens which were small but delightful. We were received with a warm welcome by the female (owner?). The room was attractive with terrace, basic furniture and fittings. Breakfast was continental but plus , with good range of extras.
Review 76:slight drawback that only a couple of restaurants within walking distance but those restaurants are good
Review 77:individual style of the hotel, spacious bedroom comfortable bed car parking close to a very popular and excellent seafood restaurant
Review 78:Needs updating first set of towels clean but stained second set of towels / spotless duvet needed washed
Review 79:Helpful staff Ground floor room Location
Review 80:This is our second visit this year and we will definitely go back. It is close to the town and you are able to walk to the bars, restaurants and shops. The car park is secure at night, which, having previously had occasion of a car broken into, gave us great peace of mind.
Review 81:I had emailed the hotel in advance to tell them that we would be booking in late but on arrival we were shown to a tiny room at the top of the building. It was nothing like that shown on the booking.com form and was obviously all that was left. There were no tea/coffee making facilities, as promised. (This would have been so welcome after a tiring journey.) The bedside light was unplugged and entailed us delving under and behind the bed to find an extension lead. The towels, once white, were grey and hard. The shower enclosure smelt, so I did not bother using it. I queried the lack of tea/coffee making facilities when I paid but was told that not all rooms had them. I was charged the full amount for this inferior room.
Review 82:The hotel was very near Caen ferry port and booking in was up to 10.30pm, which as we were docking at 9.30pm was very convenient. The breakfast was good.
Review 83:Very good bed & breakfast hotel, quiet location, good restaurants nearby, and very close to ferry terminal. Lady on reception very nice and helpful. Would stay again.
Review 84:No early breakfast before going for boat. Some hotels serve from 6.30 or 7. No reception staff until 2. Many hotels are capable and willing to take you in a bit early but we had to go for a walk until 2 and even then it opened late.
Review 85:Loved the decor and triple room at flat rate. Location is excellent. Being near the ferry terminal we weren't expecting much but this hotel is very near a lovely beach, casino, main street with very good range of restaurants and a small museum. Friendly staff, family hotel.
Review 86:Had to be away too early to get some breakfast (Not the hotels fault) But an early morning coffee would have been nice if the room had facilities
Review 87:Ideal for catching the early morning ferry. It is within walking distance of the ferry terminal. Excellent restaurants within a few minutes walk
Review 88:monsieur can sometimes have his moments, parking can be crowded although you can always resort to parking on the road, maintenance can be a bit haphazard - light bulb not working, bedhead decorations missing and worse of all no lift up fixed toilet seat - just a clip on one - not good for chaps sharing with wives!!!! only herbal and breakfast tea in bedroom no coffee!!!!
Review 89:charming and helpful madame, lovely quiet setting near to the beach and casino, pretty garden, high ceilings and cool bedroom with traditional shutters, smart outside patio with comfy seating to front of hotel, kettle and hairdryer and spacious shower
Review 90:Terse gentleman who scowls a lot Limited parking
Review 91:Lady on reception Spacious ground floor room Peaceful surroundings but good location for restaurants and port
Review 92:- The staff lacks greatly professionalism - Pretty expensive for the short (and unpleasant) stay we had
Review 93:- The style of the hotel and the decoration of rooms - The good location
Review 94:Rooms could do with an update
Review 95:Excellent location for ferry but town itself was much better than expected. Helpful staff. Found a good restaurant nearby.
Review 96:Too many stairs for the elderly. Would have liked at least one English Channel on TV.
Review 97:Excellent, handy for shops bars and restaurants. Right by the sea and tourist office. No problem parking. Tea tray with kettle, brought to the room on arrival. Good choice at the breakfast table.
Review 98:Nothing to complain about
Review 99:Excellent location for beach, cafés, restaurants etc and only a few minutes from the ferry terminal. Would make a lovely base for a family holiday.......French ambiance but not too much travelling from UK.
Review 100:The house is beautiful, the room clean and bright, bathroom immaculate, and WiFi works well in the room (unlike every other Normandy hotel I've stayed at, where it only works in the lobby.) Very close to restaurants, shops and beach. Helpful, friendly staff. Parking in hotel grounds. Highly recommended.
Review 101:The room and bathroom were rather cramped.
Review 102:The hotel was very close to the port & the beach and there was an evening market in the next street, which made a pleasant start to the holiday. Breakfast on the patio was a very relaxing way to start the day.
Review 103:Great place to stay if you have to get a ferry as the ferry terminal is only 10 mins away
Review 104:Very helpful staff
Review 105:Very poor sonic insulation of rooms.
Review 106:Friendliness of staff.
Review 107:Great location, front desk was very polite and helpful.
Review 108:Room lovely, very welcoming and couldn't be more helpful Would use this hotel again
Review 109:Lovely period piece hotel. Gorgeous bed linen Great position Kettle in the room
Review 110:Excellent for the ferry.
Review 111:The room was excellent the staff were very helpful and their recommendation for supper was top rate.
Review 112:beautiful looking building, friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Very clean room and large, comfortable bed.
Review 113:It was very convenient to the car ferry, and close to restaurants. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the road quiet.
Review 114:smell of drains in bathroom !
Review 115:great location , ok parking
Review 116:Friendly welcome . Excellent continental breakfast . Very comfortable room.

Review 119:Very friendly staff. Simple but tasty breakfast. Parking, good location within city.
Review 120:nothing to dislike!
Review 121:Good location, attractive building with good parking. Welcoming entrance and sincere professional owners.
Review 122:Not applicable. We have o complaints.
Review 123:The reception and comfort. The earness to ferries and beaches.
Review 124:Fire precautions are non-existent. Stairs are potentially dangerous
Review 125:Dining room delightful
Review 126:Good location for ferry
