Reviews for Metropole Hotel and Spa
Review 1:The decor was a little tatty for a luxury room, and the old sash windows quite drafty. Other than that everything was lovely
Review 2:The room was spacious and comfortable. Room service was fast and the food very nice. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 3:The food & drinks where far to pricy, the rooms where nice but not worth £138 a night. I'm afraid that the cooked breakfast really wasn't great, so I only went for breakfast one morning out of the two nights I stayed & I'm not a fussy eater. I think thing would have to change for me to go back to stay again which is a shame as I'm about to invest in the area.. Sorry.
Review 4:I liked the look of the hotel inside & out & the staff where very nice & helpful.
Review 5:Nothing really, prefer the hotel car park to be near the car park, but the lifts make that not a problem.
Review 6:The hotel is spotlessly clean facilities very good. Pets allowed which is essential for me. Food and service in restaurant excellent.
Review 7:The Luxury Room was nice but freezing cold, had to get a heater to warmit up, the large tv in the room took 30 minutes to switch on, left iton when left room and had gone off again when we returned to the room.Switched it on again and the tv did not come on at all. Verydisappointing for £145 for bed and breakfast. Left at 21.45 and wenthome as very unsatisfactory. Would not recommend to others. Nowawaiting a full refund, have been offered a return visit but don'twant to go back!!!
Review 8:Nothing to dislike.
Review 9:Room superb, spa and pool lovely. Food very good. This was for our wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed.I would return and recommend it.
Review 10:Unable to be accommodated to eat in the evening despite being told we did not need to book in advance. Had to ask the manager to help. Room Service was awful. Inferior food delivered to the room by a member of staff who made it quite clear this was putting him out.
Review 11:Comfortable room and very clean
Review 12:A beautiful hotel in a great Mid Wales location. Excellent restaurant and very comfortable room with turret suite. Great swimming pool too. Would love to return for a spa day.
Review 13:Room was an attic conversion, restrictive window. Towel rail low quality domestic dangerously not fixed to wall! Came off! No extract in ensuite. TV old style screen poorly adjusted, very limited Freeview channels.
Review 14:The SPA POOL, DINING
Review 15:The mobile phone coverage (Vodafone) is bad, no connection in most of the hotel. Some of the decor is looking a bit tired.
Review 16:Good central location for motorcycling in Wales, easy parking, extensive breakfast selection. Spa and bar very good. Plenty of staff.
Review 17:Only issue we had was noisy people outside in the car park, continued their party after the bar closed and gathered outside until 1.30am, they sounded like they had a great night but hopefully this is something staff can monitor for people who are leaving to not stay in the car park, we had a superior room too and was on the second floor, but this was the only let down.
Review 18:Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Loved both evenings in both restaurants, great service and great food.
Review 19:The brasserie has good value food but there are not enough tables to cater for the amount of people wishing to eat there. They will not allow you to eat in the bar or conservatory area which is quite a shame.
Review 20:The rooms are very spacious and the shower was clean, modern and luxurious. Good choice at breakfast and eat as much as you like. There was a small games room but great when it's raining (we practiced our table tennis badly). There is a swimming pool but we forgot to bring our costumes and missed out there. Right in the town centre also easy to get to places of interest such as the Brecon National Parks. The other thing that was good is you don't feel awkward any where, there are many places to sit and lounge and the brasserie has good food at good value.
Review 21:they lost our booking for dinner, there are 2 restaurants we weren't booked in at either despite me calling to book, when I called it wasn't explained that there was 2 and they are different menus, we did get to eat in the one we wanted eventually. there was a substantial amount of damp on the outside wall of our room. the rooms are nice apart from this, but bits of the hotel look quite run down. we were refunded some of our money for the problems we had which was good. there were lots of old people when we stayed, not that this is necessarily a bad thing depending on what you want out of your stay.
Review 22:the beds were very comfy and huge the room was big the bathroom was lovely the spa was good the food in spencer's was excellent
Review 23:TV remote control only appeared to work for one of the TVs in the room.
Review 24:Charm and character of hotel. Staff were very attentive and efficient. Food was excellent and cooked to perfection. Perhaps the best large hotel I've ever stayed at.
Review 25:My wife is Gluiten-free, but sadly the gluten-free options on the menu at dinner were very limited. Some improvement could be done on this.
Review 26:Great spa facilities including gym and pool.
Review 27:The bedroom was located at the front of the hotel there was a band on until twelve at night reception couldn't move us the bedroom was vibrating with noise had to stay out of the hotel until after midnight as the dog couldn't sleep on the floor and we couldn't sleep for the noise
Review 28:The food was good in particular the breakfast.th
Review 29:Website is very misleading. I booked a twin and a double room and on arrival was told I'd booked single occupancy for each room and would therefore have to pay extra for my family members. The toilet in my room was too close to the wall so you couldn't sit on it properly. Our evening meal wasn't four star standard.
Review 30:Breakfast was fantastic
Review 31:There was no signage at the front to the car park that I could see but it wasnt really a problem.
Review 32:I liked this lovely old hotel as it was up to date and smart in an old fashioned relaxed way. It was clean and warm and fresh and the pool was brilliant. I didnt want to get out as the temperature etc was just right. The history was so lovely too. I would recommend it to anyone and definitely will stay there again. Lovely food too. Very lovely staff.
Review 33:People smoking by the main entrance. Smoke drifted back into the lobby and bar area. Not pleasant
Review 34:Staff very friendly and competent. Worth paying the extra few pounds for the executive rooms. Very spacious and comfortable
Review 35:nothing
Review 36:Fantastic staff , very helpful and polite. The pool was open for kids til 6pm which was great after a lomg drive. Good quality food in the brasserie. Ample parking.
Review 37:1 . Location of car park difficult to find 2. Buffet breakfast very poor 3. Visitors should be aware that the hotel caters to a great extent for coach parties.
Review 38:Superior room excellent
Review 39:Way too expensive for the standard of accommodation you really are paying for the location
Review 40:Excellent location for our event, the food in the bistro was superb
Review 41:Just a little old fashioned for me, for example a bigger (and wide-screen) TV in room would be nice; Banging doors disturbed Sunday lie-in; Comparatively expensive.
Review 42:Hotel is somewhat modernised - bathroom especially nice, room was large and comfy; Staff excellent; Cooked buffet breakfast; Good location - Llandrindod Wells seems sleepy but surrounded by stunning mid-Wales landscape.
Review 43:For a 4 star hotel I would have expected it to be a bit more well appointed. The decor was a bit old and tatty in parts. The overall feel was relaxed and staff were helpful. The food in the restaurant was great and breakfast was very nice too. Bathroom was lovely too, recently been refurbed. The room was meant to be a superior room however it was small and too warm. I told them it was a special occasion which wasn't acknowledged (they don't have to but would have been nice touch) Check in was a bit dull and lacking in information. Check out was better. Overall it was a good stay but could have been better. Special mention to Nilands in the restaurant for great service and friendliness :)
Review 44:Very small television stuck in the corner - expected a little more for a luxury room! The handle (very heavy metal) to the shower fell off twice - it was attached by the tiniest of threads. Mentioned it as we were leaving and not one word of apology! Very poor considering we'd just paid over £200.
Review 45:Evening meal in the brasserie was very good value. Good standard of cleanliness.
Review 46:We arrived early hours of the morning and the staff were so helpful. We had left our keys in the safe which was great. They had made 2 swans out of towels on the bed with rose petals which was lovely such a personal touch.
Review 47:We had a "superior room" which was good but the view was awful and we felt a little enclosed by it. The television programmes were not as the literature and there seemed to be no way of re-tuning. The journey to our room from the disabled car parking area was very difficult, via two lifts, two seats of small stairs and several fire doors.
Review 48:Lovely hotel, in lovely town. The comfort of the room was very good. Good car park.
Review 49:The bathroom lights were on a sensor and kept turning off when you were on the loo, plunging you into darkness as the sensor was round a corner! The pillows were far too hard and solid. The bar area always was very noisy. Not a place to relax in. The evening food was either far too fussy in the main Resturant or mundane bar grub with barely any vegetarian choice. Something tasty in the middle would have been nice.
Review 50:the breakfast was nice as was the communal sitting room. The parking was plentiful.
Review 51:Pillows. Menues should try and extend there vegetarian options.
Review 52:Meals excellent. Room clean and spacious. Family enjoyed gym and swimming pool facilities.
Review 53:room standard was poor for what was meant to be an executive room and not worth the additional money paid . Very average compared to other hotels . breakfast was good but extremely annoying that staff were constantly circling to clear plates every few seconds and asking if we were finished whilst we were clearly still eating .
Review 54:breakfast was very good
Review 55:Would have liked an extra blanket to put on at night. Didn't ask as it was the middle of the night I was cold!
Review 56:Friendliness of the staff, cleanliness & the spa.
Review 57:Had to wait for the breakfast to be replenished which resulted in us having breakfast at different times
Review 58:The comfort of the hotel and the traditional style was superb. We also enjoyed the pool.
Review 59:The wi fi didn't reach my room, I chose the hotel because of the wi fi. There was a big hole in the bedroom wall and 2 random holes in the carpet (that were stitched like button holes) that I kept tripping on. Every time someone on the corridor opened or closed a door my bedroom door banged and rattled which was both disconcerting and irritating when trying to go to sleep.
Review 60:restaurant menu too gourmet for our average tastes, would have appreciated a traditional english/welsh roast on the menu. We ate in Spencers because of the gourmet menu, would have used the hotel restaurant otherwise.
Review 61:the comfort, cleanliness and friendly staff
Review 62:I did not like the small screen of the TV. There was no small side table on my side of bed. The heating system was not working. I did not like the idea of cleaners coming before the time to leave the room.
Review 63:I really liked the comfort of the bed and the bathroom were excellent. I also liked the set up of the furniture and the colours on the room. The door key was easy to use better than the other places I have been. General the staff were smiling.
Review 64:only issue is price on rooms ,special weekend rates would be an incentive
Review 65:we have used your hotel quite a few times every year since 2002 and never been disappointed ,the staff are always friendly and helpful ,david morgan has been more of a friend than a manager and nothing has ever been too much trouble for him .
Review 66:Hotel was excellent but the town itself was disappointing. The museum was closed as was the cycle museum
Review 67:Food was excellent. Pool and facilities great. Lovely old hotel which has been kept beautifully. Very clean and comfortable. Drive through Élan Valley was fantastic
Review 68:Smoking area right outside front entrance on main road. Not a good advert for hotel having to pass smokers on entering. Small children in Bar area.
Review 69:Ambience of the Hotel. Friendly staff, very helpful. Food in restaurant excellent. Superior room very comfortable and good size. Spa facilities excellent. Plenty of car parking space at back of Hotel.
Review 70:Great shame. Really nice place but the extractor fan in the bathroom! Came on automatically, and no visible way of turning it off! Hence night trips to w.c. ensured the roar of a jumbo jet for 10 minutes after we'd closed the door. Consequently what should have been a luxurious night's sleep was spoiled.
Review 71:Really attentive staff.
Review 72:Hotel was excellent, staff very polite, service was excellent, I have been on numerous trips to various parts of England and Ireland but I have never had food as I got in this hotel, I will be back to this hotel.
Review 73:Our room was stated as being 'Superior'. The bathroom was well appointed but the bedroom itself was small. The room (432) was very warm. It would have benefited from air conditioning.
Review 74:The amazing lady I was with! Seriously though - the comtemporary decor in the bar, brasserie and lounge areas. Service - the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The evening meal food was particularly good.
Review 75:My room was " upgraded" to a room looking out on to 3 green walls & a fire escape The only option to eat was in the restaurant or my room despite there being oceans of unused public areas After a busy 8 1/2 hour day at work & then a 2 hr drive through pouring rain to the hotel all I wanted was a light evening meal in convivial non formal setting. After sitting in the bar ignored by staff I had to ask for a menu & was told i could only eat in the restaurant The hotel justified this by telling me they could only cater in the 40 seated restaurant in the evening ( this in a hotel with 110 rooms!!)
Review 76:Wifi was a bit hit and miss.
Review 77:The food and the lovely pool. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Family room was just superb and our son aged 8 loved every second of our stay.
Review 78:The town itself was VERY quiet. We stayed on Sunday and Monday nights and could find almost nowhere to eat or anywhere to go outside of the hotel.
Review 79:Can't fault the hotel itself. Good facilities and great staff. Good food in the Brasserie and at breakfast. Good service throughout. Pool and spa also good.
Review 80:Food would have been expensive if weren't on inclusive package. Up rated tv (e.g. Movie channels) would have been appreciated. Llandrindod Wells is bizarre; was deserted on a Saturday afternoon, apart from a few winos, but a good central location for touring
Review 81:Room very well furnished and in good condition, wifi worked. Staff friendly, food good.
Review 82:The standard of cleaning overall was excellent, but did find a few remnants of guests past - a crayon, parcel ribbon and a crisp. Didn't go looking for them, happened upon them during our use of the rooms. Broadband was reasonably fast once we managed to get logged in - logging in was the difficult bit, but that may just be me being a little dim with computers. A suggestion: As we stayed in a family room it might have been nice if the hotel could supply a basket of games/toys etc for the children. Doesn't need to be left in room, because usually that would result in baskets becoming neglected (like the ones you see in doctors waiting rooms). Instead it could be a service that is offered as an option. Could have age appropriate baskets, because 'one size' would not suit all.
Review 83:We expected a single bed in our room for our son. So we were pleasantly surprised that the family room is actually a suite of rooms. The Children's room had bunk beds. Our room had a massive super king size double for us - enough room for kids to pile into bed with parents in am. The breakfast was excellent. The swimming pool was open early and shut well into the evening - loads of time to take a splash. I'd forgotten I'd requested a glass of warm milk for my son when I'd booked, so again very pleased to have this brought to our room at the time requested - fantastic service. Staff very friendly.
Review 84:the dinner menu in the restaurant was the same for the three nights we stayed. A greater choice would have been more exciting.
Review 85:The spa, with its excellent facilities available from early in the morning until 8pm included in the price, is a real bonus and one reason, amongst others, why we would wish to return.
Review 86:Parts of the hotel have also seen better days, but gradual upgrade in different areas is working well. The exterior colour of the hotel - horrid green! Again, due for an upgrade but it must be like painting the Forth Bridge, it's so vast!
Review 87:Spa/pool very pleasant and spacious. Restaurant - very good food and service. Comfortable, exceptionally quiet room - we were given a complimentary upgrade on a Tuesday night. The bed was HUGE! Although the town has seen better days, the lake is a lovely place to visit and is in easy walking distance.
Review 88:Very good room, great food. Helpfull staff.
Review 89:The salad at lunchtime on teusday containd enough rocket to feed a herdof herefords for a week
Review 90:Very wellcoming and comfortable
Review 91:Rooms are dated, TV was poor, doors rattled and air con didn't work.
Review 92:Pool, gym, shower, seminar facilities
Review 93:The shower didn't drain properly, despite us having pointed it out.
Review 94:The food was excellent
Review 95:Breakfast was excellent. Variety, well cook, plenty of it and good helpful service.
Review 96:looks a wee bit tired - breakfast hot selection was tepid

Review 106:Didn't feel that The superior double status was appropriate for the size of the room. Quite disappointed
Review 107:The spa
Review 108:The hotel was lovely, most enjoyable and i would recommend the hotel to all
Review 109:The really comfortable room, very friendly staff, the large lounge, the café and the food.
Review 110:Didn't like the bathroom light on a timer
Review 111:The breakfast was really good Nice bright room
Review 112:Ordered a meal in the night and I was wrong waited a long time for it to be sorted out

Review 115:I was upgraded and the room was lovely also dogs made to feel welcome
Review 116:Absolutely superb breakfast
Review 117:Location and ambience of hotel and the spa.
Review 118:The walls of our bedroom were very thin; we could hear the snoring man next door. The place is very faded.
Review 119:Dinner and breakfast was good.
Review 120:the room was so outdated ,musky smell to it ,needs complete refurbishment . booked to stay 3 nights only stayed 1, not a 4 star hotel
Review 121:not much
Review 122:Not having a bath, or king size bed in our room or being ask for either of these when booking.
