Reviews for The Goodwood Hotel
Review 1:The bar ran out of beer. Not so good over Xmas but as I'm a wine drinker it was not a problem. Biggest issue is WiFi. It is very poor and unless you're in the vacinity of the reception it simply doesn't work. For this standard of hotel, it must be fixed.
Review 2:Lovely hotel. We stayed over Xmas and the hospitality was excellent. Very comfortable stay.
Review 3:Terrible service at breakfast in particular. No glasses, cutlery, long, long wait for anything, often requiring a number of requests. Basic requests for cooked breakfast were not carried out leading to disappointing quality. Had to wait for cups, no serving spoons etc at the buffet, No-one appeared to be in charge and the whole thing was mis-managed. We listened to complaints from a number of guests and the managers/staff appeared to be totally dis-interested. One guest nearby had to ask 4 times for coffee. The worst service I have ever received in a hotel anywhere. Dinner was mediocre at best and at high prices. We couldn't access or lock our room on a number of occasions and had to call for help. Poor information on accessing the spa and gym led to frustration and delays. I don't normally do reviews but this one was a must.
Review 4:Good spa facilities and well equipped gym. The room was clean and well proportioned
Review 5:Dogs in the bar and grill, they were allowed to walk through the food area to get to the lounge and some owners let them on the seats too. No adults only areas (not everyone has kids) to relax in.
Review 6:Location. Facilities. Staff. I'd like to add that due to a family emergency, we had to cut short our stay and the reception staff couldn't have been more helpful.
Review 7:Not enough staff for breakfast - very long wait. Restaurants are overpriced as there is no other choice nearby. Hotel looks good on website but so many rooms make this hotel impersonal and like a conference hotel.
Review 8:Good location for nearby walks. Good facilities (pool, gym, sauna) Very comfortable room. Good quality menus.
Review 9:As returning ( quite a few times ) guests , we knew where we wanted to have a quiet drink but the bar was very noisy and overcrowded . We spent most of afternoon in our room which was fine and suited us . However , we were occupied on on side of our room by a family , the children were behaved but we were woken very early by the noise . The other side was a room with a dog . As we always attend together , I think that the room could have been more isolated as that is the exact reason we come back each time and maybe the family rooms / dog rooms could be collectively together and allow couples with family / dogs further roomed away . As we were primarily after some isolation and peace after a busy Christmas , we felt we would have liked a quiter part of the hotel or at least offered another room , even if it was at our expense. Having said that , as much as we didn't have a Lay in or total peace the room were not noisy enough to complain and by that stage we were nearly ready to check out . We do love Goodwood, we will always return but when you ask for a garden room , which in our opinions are the best , possibly ask the neighbour situation before your seen to your room if you are travelling as a couple needing some R&R.
Review 10:The staff are , as always very helpful . The food is always excellent . . Bedrooms always clean.
Review 11:We decided to eat in the Bar @ Grill restaurant did not think there was a lot of choice on menu and the amount of chips for a side order for 3.50 was not good value for money.
Review 12:The staff were excellent and very polite. The gym and the swimming pool were excellent.
Review 13:I did not like that you do not advertise the hotel transport to the Kennels. I nearly cancelled trying to work out how we would safely get there and back
Review 14:Staff very professional Food at the Kennels was wonderful staff there were amazing
Review 15:No one explained how to access swimming pool facilities. We could not access changing rooms and had to go from pillar to post trying to find someone to help. Lady on breakfast reception was not welcoming and made us feel an inconvenience, but the staff inside the breakfast room were helpful and pleasant. :-) No instructions how to use shower/ bath taps in room - I know that sounds daft but we couldn't work it out during our stay and we're both intelligent 40+ people! Hairdryer didn't work. Didn't mention at check-out as other people were waiting. Not huge niggles but I expected a little bit better and smoother stay.
Review 16:Reception staff showed me to my room without prompting. Friendly.
Review 17:Beware of local taxi firms that charge an additional £5.90p to £11 before your journey starts. The extras varied from taxi to taxi, but one wanted £25 for a journey that only hours before cost £16. The drinks are very pricey too.
Review 18:Service that goes with its reputation and all the facilities. The quality is exceptional.
Review 19:Didn't have enough time to enjoy the room.
Review 20:Room was beautiful and extremely well kept. Night before stayed in a hotel £20 less and the difference should be £100.
Review 21:I found the service friendly but unhelpful - let me walk you to your room [but not offer to help you with your bags] The bed was fearfully soft and uncomfortable The atmosphere is grey grey grey, its like being inside a battleship.
Review 22:Sunday breakfast is a shambles they are unable to cope with demand for the size of the hotel. Really disappointing.
Review 23:Great rooms, clean and comfy, lovely toiletries and amenities
Review 24:We had to walk a very long way through the hotel to get to our room. The Internet was very sketchy. We lost power to all the electrical sockets for most of the stay. The lady that checked us in was nice but the tone of the staff member who took our call regarding the power sockets was a little cocky and the issue wasn't resolved before we left. It's a lovely hotel but I'm not sure the expense for staying is justified
Review 25:Beautiful location and hotel. Nice room, very clean.
Review 26:The lighting the room could have been a little brighter, it was quite dark even with all the side lights on, an option of a main light would be useful
Review 27:The service was excellent, and a refreshing change to have predominantly English staff on site.
Review 28:The interior is very spread out with lots of corridors that all look the same! Needs a larger garden area.
Review 29:Clean, comfortable with excellent facilities. Very friendly, helpful staff. Good choice of breakfast. Log fire in reception area.
Review 30:The key issue is the poor management of the hotel team. We turned up for a late lunch in the spa restaurant when it was nearly empty and the waiters struggled to find us a table. In the end we were stuck in a table in a corner with no other guests turning up over the next hour. Two consecutive bookings at reception for dinner at the Richmond Arms did not materialise - there seemed to be an air of confusion! Last breakfast was funny - our cooked breakfast went to the wrong table which rejected it. We then received theirs which we declined and the saga took an hour to rectify. A good hotel manager is required to get all departments functioning efficiently! Very poor and indifferent service.
Review 31:Beautiful location. The hotel is well set out and maintained. The bedrooms are modestly sized but well appointed. Good spa facilities including pleasant indoor pool.
Review 32:Some minor things, the facilities could be updated like the WIFI signal is poor. Plus having a broken bath was a bit disappointing, if I was staying for a longer a time I would of complained, the shower was fab.
Review 33:I had the most amazing meal at The Kennels. Slightly pricey but well worth it the food was well cooked, fresh and looked Michelin star worthy. The hotel is set in a great setting, there's always something to do.
Review 34:Service in the main restaurant was totally disorganised we were a party of ten it was my wives birthday which was totally spoilt. They served main dish on a platter for four people which was ok but we had no plates to eat off we had to ask twice before we at last received them, then three other dishes came they were cold had to go back and by the time they came the first four had finished there meal so we to wait while they finished for us to continue. Breakfast again was totally disorganised. I did complain
Review 35:Good rooms facilities and area.
Review 36:in this big hotel( over 90 bedrooms) every corridor was the same colour of soft grey which at first was a bit disorientating not to say monotonous. dinner on a busy night was slow but worth the wait !
Review 37:in a beautiful environment and well run. enjoyed the excellent pool , jacuzzi etc food particularly good , excellent breakfast
Review 38:noisy party in the middle of the night in the corridor for an hour, three menus we looked at for dinner were all different and champagne was flat and cold.
Review 39:Rooms and dining - bar had a cold feeling.
Review 40:Reception staff fast and efficient. Dinner outstanding. Breakfast service a little slow - we said we were in a hurry and just wanted toast which took at least ten mins. Pool sauna steam room a big bonus very good.
Review 41:Cold rooms - no heating Dinner reservation lost Told no space in restaurant except 6.30 pm Restaurant never more than half full Bathrooms for midgets
Review 42:Staff appear to not enjoy there jobs as no smiles, no friendly greeting on arrival, restaurant staff similar. Bathroom looking tired and worn. Whole experience not as was expected of a hotel with good reputation and with its goodwood connections.
Review 43:Smart staff uniforms
Review 44:The poky room we were given at first, over looking the carpark. Service in the bar was patchy.
Review 45:The position. The layout of the buildings. The food and service at breakfast. Attitude of staff when explained why we wanted to move room, death of mum.
Review 46:Nothing
Review 47:Location great and hotel lovely. Richmond arms restaurant lovely too but although great food, a little overpriced for a four star hotel. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay enormously.
Review 48:It's a shame that everyone under 16 is only allowed to use the pool at set times. We stayed one night, and chose the hotel over others in the locality largely because of the pool. We were limited to a 2 hour slot in the pool after we checked in (which was ruined by young unsupervised children dive bombing) and couldn't get in the pool the following morning due to the pre-10 am ban, followed by an aerobics class.
Review 49:The location of the hotel, and facilities.
Review 50:We were dissappointed with this hotel. The sales photographs eg the main facade, give the impression that this is a small boutique hotel which is not the case. This is a very large hotel - mostly new build with a motel atmosphere. The carpets in the corridors are very dirty and totally outwith a hotel of this price.
Review 51:Friendly staff and nice food.
Review 52:The breakfast offer was poor and took far too long to get hot food! There are not enough umbrellas outside the Bar and Grill The pillows on the bed were far too soft there should be hard pillows available also
Review 53:The spa facilities were great, gym well equipped and pool really nice The food for lunch and dinner was very nice and good value
Review 54:Reception staff were disinterested on arrival and throughout stay. Breakfast was disorganised with no system. Wi-Fi was intermittent.
Review 55:Spa staff were friendly and helpful and facilities were good. I loved the steam room. Bar and cleaning staff were friendly. Room was great
Review 56:Room was not available on arrival at 4pm even though check in is 3 pm and the reception had no sensible alternatives for us to change in
Review 57:Breakfast was varied and served
Review 58:Found several long toe nails on the carpet. When we arrived they realised they hadn't fixed our shower, so we had them in our room for 30 minutes, when we wanted to relax, after being in traffic for over 2 hours. The coffee is the worst coffee I have ever had. Room service didn't bring milk for my cereal and next day didn't bring enough cutlery, so we both could have our breakfast.
Review 59:The staff were very friendly and welcoming to our dog. The Kennels restaurant was lovely and worth the money.
Review 60:we appreciated peaceful setting but it was a bit too quiet.... maybe a jazz band in the evening, possibility to hire bikes during the day or yoga classes outdoors with a beautiful view?? ...and the window in the room does not open fully giving a bit of a claustrophobic feel
Review 61:Great service (very pleasant and friendly staff), lovely surroundings, good food, clean, everything provided in a room (no need to call the reception, wait for everything) dressing gown, slippers, iron, good quality cleaning products...
Review 62:overall price a little high- hotel had a corporate feel- food and drink expensive for what you received.
Review 63:Staff very professional and courteous - the breakfast was great- really good.
Review 64:The room was not as seen in the pictures on the website, The spa andswimming pool also. We ordered room serves . The woman who delivered ourmeals said she had gone to the wrong rooms, so our meals were very.Totop it of there was a stag party making a lot of noise during the nightso we didn't get much sleep at all. Our room was facing the car parkso all we hurd was slamming car doors through the day and night !! Iwouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone .
Review 65:The staff are amazing expecially the reception team (:
Review 66:This hotel and its staff exceed expectations. The staff really want you to have a fantastic stay and are very thoughtful as well as professional. The facilities are great and the Goodwood estate is stunning. Make sure you have a swim, leave plenty of time for a really long breakfast then walk it off with a visit to the Cass Sculpture Garden.
Review 67:Our room needs few maintenance work. The window didn't close well. The toilet ventilation didn't work. Small things that count
Review 68:Breakfast was excellent. Spacious parking. WIFI was patchy but no big deal, use 4G instead. Location is in Goodwood / Chichester. The Richmond Restaurant can serve food very well. Make sure to eat there during your stay.
Review 69:Sat outside the bar for a drink and the chairs are old and worn out and really need to be replaced. A bit more of a "corporate" hotel feel that I was expecting. Modern block of rooms and lacked the ambience of a country hotel.
Review 70:Nice location in the countryside. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant where they used food from their own farm. Everyone was extra friendly and helpful. I would stay there again and would probably book one of the rooms with its own outside sitting area.
Review 71:The whole place is really badly signed! Either no signs or very discreet signs, I found it hard to navigate the sprawling complex and even the sign to tell you how to work the shower system was hidden away so didn't find it til after a frustrating 5 minutes working it out...
Review 72:Good spa and golf facility
Review 73:Food in both restaurants overpriced and not value for money. Experience in Goodwood Bar & Grill left uch to be desired.
Review 74:Comfotable accommodaton and helpful friendly staff
Review 75:We were extremely disappointed with our meals at dinner. We waited far too long for the food to be served and our first courses and my husbands main course were very bad. The staff were very pleasant and helpful but, unfortunately, this could not make up for the dreadful food!
Review 76:The staff were very helpful and the room was cosy and very clean.
Review 77:Very attractive location. Atmosphere more suitable for golfers than a non-playing mature couple. Possibly a separate car park for hotel guests would be more welcoming. Food was a little disappointing. Good, but not as good as your website led us to expect. On the other hand, the beds were marvelous!
Review 78:Shower leaked water onto the floor. Extractor fan not working. Fitted carpets lifting from the floor.
Review 79:Quiet, leafy location. Use of health club. Very comfortable bed.
Review 80:Breakfast,treated like we shouldn't be there, everything closed off with out prior notice, noisy and nearly being locked inside a bathroom from the inside!!!all this and still no money back that was promised!!!
Review 81:The location and surrounding country sode
Review 82:It's a dog friendly hotel but I didn't like being woken up early in the morning to the sound of one barking.
Review 83:The bed was very comfortable & room was clean with good facilities.
Review 84:We tried to do the 7.5mile walk and the instructions were poor, and in some cases couldnt be followed. Surely some discrete sinage could be put on the published walks.
Review 85:Staff and facilities
Review 86:A small niggle, the lighting in the room was inadequate to read by from a chair.
Review 87:The room was comfortable to return to. It was important to us that we had somewhere proper to sit.
Review 88:Little expensive Safe uninteresting decor especially art on walls. Room was a long way from front through many corridors.
Review 89:Imaginative dinner menu. Polite service.
Review 90:The hairdryer in the room didn't work (reception didn't answer the phone when I called down to ask for another one). No baby changing facilites in the hotel (asked a staff member who discovered that the changing station in the disabled toilet had been removed).
Review 91:Bed was fantastic, great shower and mirror that de-mists itself! Loved the molton brown shower products. The room was hot but the air conditioning worked very well.
Review 92:Got stuck in the bathroom for 10 minutes, because the door-handle came off! Felt suddenly the bathroom closing on to me, and very uncomfortable, actually frustrated. My nail clipper came handy, and saved me as there are no phones in that part of the room... Upon reporting this at the desk, it was simply handed over with little apology or understanding as to what actually happened!
Review 93:Lovely location, plenty of things to do and of course perfect for Golf. Staff friendly but lacking efficiency and no management presence makes one wonder if things might go wrong, and it did in my case.
Review 94:That we had to leave!
Review 95:Everything was just fantastic at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I had a small dog so they provided us with a free upgrade so that we could have easy access to outside areas. The rooms were a high standard and the beds were so comfortable.
Review 96:Spa is not clean Steamroom virtually no steam Fungy Staff partially not listening Cold meal at the kennels Everywhere windows/doors open and therefore extremely drafty Breakfast buffet insuffizient for a 4 Star Cold cuts and cheese
Review 97:Help for lost/forgotten items Nice conciergerie
Review 98:- poor internet speed of the free version - staff not over friendly, particularly in Bar and Grill - tennis coach not really available, at least not during Easter half term
Review 99:- sporting facilities are great - Park course (golf) very reasonably priced - breakfast very good and included in room rate - Goodwood House is very interesting too - perfect for "all resort" days, you don't have to leave Goodwood if you don't want to - Richmond Arms and Kennel for posh supper
Review 100:Breakfast was great but dinner rather slow and we did not like the menu.
Review 101:The beds were great and the pool was so nice that there were almost too many people .
Review 102:Not enough vegetarian options at restaurants. Would have preferred slightly later check out.
Review 103:The breakfast was really nice. Bed was huge and v.comfortable. Robes and slippers included.
Review 104:The hotel spa was very poor we thought compared to other hotel spa's we have stayed at, there were lots of children playing on inflaterables in the pool with just a very small section roped off for us to swim in, the spa side of things really let the hotel down & really could do with updating in our opionion !
Review 105:We loved the Hotel, it very very clean & tidy, the Food was excellent but very expensive, you get what you pay for I guess & the staff were excellent ! !
Review 106:Maybe because we seemed to be in one of the rooms which could be adjoined with the one next door (but there was another couple/family there), we found the walls rather thin and could hear everything from the room next to us and passing people in the corridor. The room also stayed very hot and stuffy. Service in the Bar and Grill was very hap hazard, orders being mixed up and forgotten and cleanliness was not the best. But produce great.
Review 107:Lovely hotel and grounds, the Richmond Arms Restaurant served excellent food and the staff there were very friendly. We had a Signature room, which was spacious and well decorated.
Review 108:The bar didn't have the sparkling wine we wanted with the evening snack. Wifi was quite slow
Review 109:The whole experience was good. Spa was nice but if you wanted a treatment you would have to book in before you arrived at the hotel.
Review 110:A beautiful hotel experience. Extremely comfortable bedroom, bed, fabulous shower, great breakfast, and dining at the Kennels members club was heavenly. Decor modern, contemporary throughout yet not overly flashy. Goodwood hotel does all the small details exactly right, but retains a friendly welcoming charm, without any sense of haughtiness at all (even though this is part of the renowned Goodwood estate). Goodwood does things perfectly without trying too hard. Absolutely love the vibe here and will definitely be back
Review 111:For the price I paid this was more than value for money, everything about this place is excellent. my stay was for business purposes but I will certainly come back for pleasure
Review 112:Service and friendliness of staff. Design, quality and comfort of room and hotel facilities. Immaculate attention to details in almost all respects. Exquisite level of cuisine - far exceeding our expections, which were high already before we came.
Review 113:Noise from a pump going on and off in we assume the next room all the time. Whole experience not value for money.
Review 114:Pool excellent when we could eventually get in there after so many children.
Review 115:There was a slight problem with the hot water in our room but we were moved quickly and efficiently without any fuss at all so this is not really a negative just shows how efficient the staff are at the hotel.
Review 116:The standard of everything was very high from the room to the restaurant!
Review 117:I was told that the main restaurant was full on check in. And wasoffered the bar and grill. I checked this out and found it to besoulless with a faint smell of chlorine from the pool next door. I wentand spoke with reception saying this wasn't acceptable and they"squeezed" me in to the main restaurant which was not fullwith at least 5 tables empty... Odd - need more staff... Food was goodbut they muddled up the steaks and gave us sparkling water and not tapas asked. This was swapped for bottled still! Overpriced and expensiveall around
Review 118:Bedroom excellent
Review 119:A lot of little things which led up to putting a damper on the break, partly due to communication problems between staff/different areas, i.e. between reception/bar/restaurant/housekeeping. Our daughters room was not serviced, on two days and the other day after requesting it be done, nothing was replenished and just the bins were emptied!! Another point was that it was not very clear about children not being able to swim after a certain time, probably a big sign on the leisure centre desk would do it. Grandson aged 12 was upset because obviously we didn't want to go for a swim without him. Shame really!!
Review 120:The location was good, the staff were pleasant the leisure facilities were very good, the room we had was just right for us and our dog.
Review 121:Carpets and corridors are a little tired Room heating system was difficult to adjust and room was a little chilly Bed comfortable could be improved . (AKA Marriott hotel bed and linen is superior) Breakfast cereal choice poor cold selection minimal.
Review 122:Reception area warm and welcome Bar service very good Breakfast service good
Review 123:Bit if a maze to find your room.
Review 124:Beds are great and really comfortable. Bathrooms fine but ours was a little small and the hot water was only ever warm, couldn't get hot. Breakfast great and good choice
Review 125:It was not like the traditional hotel building. It was more like a converted stable block. Lots of narrow corridors which were all unheated...but the rooms were well heated. The food in the restaurant was only reasonable. Mind you I stay in top hotels throughout Europe.
Review 126:A good weekend, but all of the restaurants were booked out when we arrived! At least we were made aware of this on arrival so could book another venue.
Review 127:As it was our anniversary we were welcomed with champagne and chocolates. We had a lovely dinner in the Richmond restaurant. The staff was most welcoming all in all an enjoyable experience.
Review 128:Exepensive, but really worth the money. The facilities are fantastic. The restaurant is especially good - much better than usual hotel food. All in a beautiful setting.
Review 129:Breakfast service was very slow. A large hotel spread out with no real heart and therefore slightly impersonal.
Review 130:Room was excellent with comfy bed making for a good nights sleep. Staff friendly and keen to assist.
Review 131:We liked it all !!
Review 132:All staff were polite and most helpful. Our room was excellent.. Food was also excellent. Highly recommendable. A revisit is most certainly on the cards.
Review 133:A power cut on the Sunday morning curtailed use of the pool and restaurant but we cant blame the hotel for that.
Review 134:Very Friendly staff - from restaurant through to housekeeping, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms and facilities are well appointed tastefully decorated and clean. I would stay there again
Review 135:Food in Bar was poor quality We had an issue in our room where the shower was exceeding the 38 degree temp. limit/bath drain was non functional and dangerous. Difficult to understand given the excellence of the hotel - speculate malicious act?
Review 136:Beautiful refurb since we last stayed. Decor in room and in the general hotel first class Given a couple of problems the management have shown concern
Review 137:Difficult to find. Sat Nav kept taking me to Goodwood house. Brown signes on main road say 'Goodwood hotel' but after the first one there are no more. Signage in hotel is also a bit confusing. Room was not well sound-proofed. I did hear a few doors banging during the late evening.
Review 138:The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent - ate in the bar which was very good. Breakfast was also excellent. Great selection of breads and fruit and the Full English was brilliant. Spa was also very good. Overall excellent value for money.
