Reviews for The Hotel Commodore

Review 1:We had no real expectations and we're delighted with the warm welcome received, our room and the food . Excellent value for money ! The hotel is tired in parts but clearly it's a work in progress and our bedroom in the top floor was lovely . A real effort had been made for the New Year's Eve dinner and a wonderful spread laid at breakfast . Overall it represented excellent value for money

Review 2:I was cold in the room (033). Hotel a bit tatty. But worst of all was that another guest had a key to my room and let themselves in at 23:30. Not sure how it happened but very disconcerting. I didn't raise it with the check out staff as I was with a colleague when I checked out.

Review 3:vey cold in the hotel, went for a wedding, had to keep leaving reception to warm up by the log fire in the front of the hotel.

Review 4:Very friendly staff, comfortable beds, lovely breakfast.

Review 5:It was a bit cold in the room but really this was a very minor inconvenience.

Review 6:Great location, no fuss checking in or out, lovely room, ticked all the boxes really.

Review 7:Radiator was not working in the bedroom -but it was fixed straight away but it wasn't able to heat the room sufficiently before it went off and thus my wife & I endured a cold night (not good for November). We were the only ones in the restaurant and although the service was reasonably good the food was not of good quality.

Review 8:The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful, in particular the receptionist who seemed to be doing everything else, nothing was too much trouble for her. The hotel had seen better days but our room was very comfortable and clean. A nice touch in the downstairs lounge was a roaring log fire.

Review 9:I had misgivings from the start and made contact after I made my booking but was reassured by the owner that all would be well. To start, there were no toiletries in the room, and one of the coffee cups was dirty. I had to go to reception to get this rectified. The dining room was very sad looking(all mismatched colours) and the lounge area was worse with ripped vinyl chairs. The reception area was very untidy also and these are the areas that are first seen. We sat at one of the window tables for breakfast and looking behind the heater found a lot of dried up old food (YUK!), so it can't have been cleaned for a while. The breakfast was very poor, with tinned tomatoes, tinned mushrooms and greasy hash browns and sausage and too top it off the butter was smeared all around the butter dish. This hotel is badly in need of the "hotel inspector". All pretty bad for my husband to celebrate his 60th birthday. I was so annoyed that my camera had run out of power, otherwise I would have sent off photos to the owner.

Review 10:It was central to everything

Review 11:Bedroom cleanliness was poor. parts of the carpet had not been cleaned for a very long time! Bed was very unstable. Breakfast was late due to new staff not turning up but older staff were pleasant.

Review 12:House Cleaning staff needs a bit more knowledge about house keep or entering guest rooms. They must mot assume that guest have left their room plus they always should knock first wait for reply before opening the door.

Review 13:Great location, nice and quiet, friendly staff and owner of the property, great food

Review 14:The service at the bar & in the restaurant was a little on the slow side & the morning coffee was served just like black treacle

Review 15:Plenty of complementary teas & coffees in the room.

Review 16:The hotels plumbing awfull silver fish in bath and sink dust a lot of beds need new mattresses The food. My lamb was grey unappealing with waterlogged veg and lumpy mash to much mustered pasta was not linguine it was sphaggetti and well overprised

Review 17:Location

Review 18:rooms were shabby and need updating.clean but poorly decorated.breakfast was small.grand looking hotel which does not deliver inside.

Review 19:staff were friendly.location was nice.good tv and drink facelties.

Review 20:wasn't anything not to like ,

Review 21:The staff were brilliant , clean , lovely food, so helpful , and pet friendly , we certainly will be back an recommend to others ,well done

Review 22:Hotel is a bit outdated but ir really compesate having excellent customer service many fancy hotels could learnt from!! Just for this if we are in the area we will come back

Review 23:Décor tired and bed mattress very uncomfortable.

Review 24:Staff were helpful and accommodating although clearly had not looked at my request on the booking form.

Review 25:staff and propeiter extremely friendly and helpful driving us to train station without a thought. Tis a grand old hotel and will be beautiful when finished renos. Will return if ever in the vicinity again and will recommend to family and friends who travel to Wales frequently.

Review 26:breakfast was dreadful outside of building looked good but inside the hotel most things looked very dated and in real need of renovation we went to the attached bar and it was full of very drunk and exhibitionist women

Review 27:most staff were friendly good location

Review 28:Llandrindod Wells is like being in the twilight zone, thankfully the hotel made up for this

Review 29:Staff were brilliant, evening meal superb, breakfast 1st class

Review 30:My partner booked a surprise weekend for my 30th bday at the commodore hotel and Spa. The day after we got there I wanted to use the spa and staff told me that the spa was under refurbishment! I was so dissapointed and upset the whole reason my partner booked the hotel was because of the spa as a birthday present. It didn't say on booking.com or the hotel commodore website that the spa was being refurbished! Absolutly deceiving! If we had know this we wouldn't have booked that hotel! Shame on them!!!

Review 31:We were upgraded

Review 32:Arrived at 4pm and waited 10 mins at reception. A workman eventually went to find a member of staff for us. Room promised robes & slippers, but not provided.

Review 33:Good central location & parking. Nice breakfast.

Review 34:We were very disappointed to hear that this hotel will be pulled downin the new year to make way for apartments, we've always lookedforward to staying here and feel it will be a great loss to Warwick. Ifonly the owners would renovate it to a better standard it would be avery popular hotel.

Review 35:Having stayed at this hotel many times we can say that it is in abrilliant position for a base for exploring the area by car or bus, ithas a very good car park, which sadly has now been made pay and displayfor non residents. Two members of staff were particularly worthy ofmention, Pete and Lauren, who could not have done more for us when wehad no hot water. In the circumstances, the owners are not likely to fixthe ancient water system now, so the staff are left to try to help inwhatever way they can. From what we saw of these two very nice youngpeople they would be an asset to any hotel.

Review 36:The dated look and feel of the hotel. The noise from the street at 3.00 in the morning. Single glazed windows that didn't close fully.

Review 37:The hotel location as its close to the town centre. The Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ok. The building looks well from the outside

Review 38:The hotel is very tired, but the owners are renovating bit by bit. In contrast to the good points listed, there were plastic mattress and pillow protectors, no information pack, no hairdryer (although I was able to borrow one from reception easily enough), plastic glasses and no instructions for the very fancy coffee machine. Things went very wrong in the dining room at dinner, but the waitress handled the situation well. A lot of work to be done here, but I really want to say nice things as the staff were lovely.

Review 39:The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good. My room was very nicely decorated and comfortable, and there were robes and slippers provided. Nice white cotton bed linen, and comfy chairs.

Review 40:Hotel needs lot of work, room was not clean, dust everywhere, rubbish in plain view under bed. View of derelict wing of hotel from our window, waste water cascading past window from leaking drain on higher floor. Oh, and the shower was broken

Review 41:The bed was very comfy

Review 42:Sat morn breakfast service was a shambles waitress more interested in sitting with her family.

Review 43:50% of the staff were good and friendly and helpfull. Our room had been decorated tastfully, and for the age of the hotel it was in fair condition.

Review 44:Tired and dated decor. Quirky (not truly dislikeable - just shocking red and pink) new bedroom decor. Tinned tomatoes for breakfast. Poor wi-fi but was OK in reception.

Review 45:The staff and the location. Large corner bedroom with anusing (rather than likeable) room decor. Good car parking and interesting building with great potential. Good value steak dinner.

Review 46:Bathroom awful. Cracked cistern, worn bath, rotting window. Not too clean around the skirting board area. Bedroom redone but rubbish old looking carpet. Nice coffee machine but no instructions how to use it. Bar area awful. Selection of wine non existent. Dark space. Lounge very untidy and dark. Dining room ok but very dusty.

Review 47:Bedrooms refurbished, not my style though, too fussy.

Review 48:We were one of only two tables occupied at breakfast but we had to wait about twenty minutes until someone came to take our order.

Review 49:Reception staff were very friendly!

Review 50:The weather! =P

Review 51:The staff were lovely and really helpful, I'd seen Darren mentioned in other reveiews as very friendly and helpful, and he lived up to this! The hotel was really nice, the room was beautiful and cosy, something as simple as a small table and chairs next to the window made our holiday more enjoyable as we stayed in the hotel room much of our stay due to horrific weather. The fluffy slippers and dressing gowns were also a lovely added bonus! The breakfast was lovely and I was very pleasantly surprised to hear that they had excellent veggie options (go for the veggie sausage and cheese omelette - delicious!) Our breakfast was included, but if you were paying for breakfast I'd say £9.99 for a cooked breakfast and as much coffee, juice, fruit, cereal and yoghurt as you can manage is a very good price. The only issue I had really, which is more to do with the location than the hotel, is that there wasn't much to do in the area, other than beautiful walks nearby which we couldn't manage due to the weather. There are a couple of nice restuarants, a couple of pubs, but otherwise not a lot to do in the evening either. All in all though, if we were staying in Llandridod Wells again The Commodore would be my number one choice of hotel to stay at again.

Review 52:Shower was poor waiting up to 10 minutes for hot water to filter through. Wi-fi in bedroom didn't work on first night and was extremely poor on second night - no good for individuals who need to complete work in their room.

Review 53:The hotel is a short walk from the shops and parks. Breakfast was lovely and bed was nice and comfy. Staff were approachable and friendly.

Review 54:The hotel is showing signs of age but this aside it's a nice place and good value for the money

Review 55:We stayed at the hotel for just one night the staff where very helpful the food day good

Review 56:Attached pub with noisy drinkers outside and directly below bedroom until 12.30pm. This was a problem as I was in town for a meeting and needed to be rested to work well the following day. No hair dryer or shower just a bath. Breakfast poor, overcooked bacon, undercooked egg and poor quality sausage.

Review 57:Room was nice and big and furnished nicely. Coffee machine a bonus.

Review 58:Well...It was possible to watch the TV in the reflection of the wallpaper. The room was pretty much a disco ball, all four walls had shiny feature wallpaper, and not only did the patterns clash but it was enough to give you a headache with the lights on. The antiquated lift smelled strongly of gas, which was concerning. Maybe not quite as concerning as fact it seemed to be held together by duct tape! For a unique approach to carpets, you can't go wrong here! Not sure either of us had seen anything quite like them before...

Review 59:Staff were excellent, particularly the chap who checked us in. Room was clean, bed was comfortable and had a nice coffee maker in the room. Beautiful views over the town and countryside

Review 60:The kettle did not switch off and the lead got hot. Shower was either burning hot or freezing. Couldn't get access to wifi (though the reception staff were going to resolve when we checked out). Room 33 - is over the log cabin pub, and it is terrible for the noise that goes on till early hours. No welcome pack in the room to tell you of the services available.

Review 61:The room was clean and nicely decorated. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. As we had early start they provided us with a pack-up instead of breakfast.

Review 62:Hotel dated, shower room the size of a cupboard with a shower that was either scalding or freezing! TV didn't work and breakfast worse than a soup kitchen!

Review 63:Only Darren the receptionist redeemed the stay!

Review 64:pillows were old and past use by date, on mentioning this at checkout only then was told they hold a variety of pillows we only had to ask. If they have so many pillows why not put decent ones in the rooms? Felt the fish tank in reception was very murky and did not give a good impression

Review 65:large room well furnished great coffee machine, staff were very efficient and friendly.

Review 66:Nothing at all.

Review 67:The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The room was beautiful - newly decorated and very comfortable. The food was good - we couldn't fault anything.

Review 68:No signal for digital TV in bedroom. WiFi only worked in landing areas not in the room.

Review 69:Room was comfotable, upgraded us free of charge to a suite. Good staff.

Review 70:The hotel is right next door to a very noisy nightclub! We were kept awake for most of the first night and half of the second night - not very impressive! Not the hotels fault admittedly but it had a massive impact on our stay!

Review 71:The room and bathroom were lovely and spacious - the bedding was a nice crisp white too which I like. There is also a lift which was a blessing! :)

Review 72:A little pazz zazz is needed on the finer points of decorating and the water temp in our shower was a little hit and miss.

Review 73:Each bedroom has it's own theme and it is a lovely old building with character in spades. Liked the overall feel of the hotel.

Review 74:Chicken was tough as a boot at dinner - inedible, Room was a little cool due to all the bay windows could do with a secondary double glazing

Review 75:Friendly staff, Big Room, Well decorated, Nice Bar, Lovely log fire, Good value, Great breakfast

Review 76:The decor was astonishing to say the least, this was a "refurbished room " but I think the decorator may have been colour blind.... It was vey cold, the bathroom had NO heating at all, and the bath was rougher than a pumice stone. Couldnt make up our minds if the previous use of the room was in a bordello...

Review 77:The staff were helpful, friendly and happy

Review 78:Bed uncomfortable, strange smell in lifts, musky and damp, very poor service during breakfast, no bowls for cereals, no milk, no sauce, no butter and total lack of waitresses.

Review 79:Friendly receptionist

Review 80:Quality of evening meal was poor, other quests were served cold meals had to be sent back Staff & guests smoking in the entrance to the hotel, not good having to walk through their smoke

Review 81:Love the bed & style of our room

Review 82:The bed wasn't the most comfortable but the other people in the group found theirs fine.

Review 83:We were welcomed as soon as we got there, they couldn't do enough to help us and make our stay as comfortable as possible.

Review 84:My friends room was in need of refurbishment particularly the bathroom.

Review 85:we booked 2 rooms 1 was upgraded to an excellent recently renovated room. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Money is being well spent to update and modernise the hotel. The sofas and open fires were delightful

Review 86:A real hotel run by real people. I feel at home here and appreciate the personal attention. There is always a roaring fire in the lounge and a friendly atmosphere surrounding it.

Review 87:freezing bathroom - radiator that didn't work, no hot water, poor food, no info in room about hotel facilities. A very basic hotel. When highlighted that I had no hot water they said "had I run the tap long enough". 2 or 3 minutes should be long enough but they didn't seem to care. Won't be going back

Review 88:roaring log fire

Review 89:There was nothing I didn't like about the Commodore

Review 90:My first impression when I walked in to the Commodore was WOW!! I really liked the look of the place with the warm open fires burning and the cosy scattered sofas and chairs. Then I was greeted by a member of staff who was very polite and friendly. The decor of the room was beautiful and the room was clean, neat and the bed was very comfortable. My colleagues and I stayed in for an evening meal and the food was gorgeous (plenty of it).

Review 91:No staff only reception. cold room. Poor food.room not cleaned second iday. Booked 4days b4 at 75.00 but day b4 95.50 and would not change it.

Review 92:Going home

Review 93:Radiator in room was switched off on arrival but soon heated up when switch on and only bbc chanel's on TV

Review 94:Great staff great hospitality Great food Was greeted with a big smile on arrival Room was excellent

Review 95:The matress was very springy, probably time for a replacement.

Review 96:The hotel had that sense of old fashioned granduer. The service was faultless. Breakfast was freshly cooked and served hot.

Review 97:During dinner we saw that the menu had no starters so we ordered 2 bruschetta, which were listed as an extra, and cost about £1:60 each. We asked our waiter -Darren - for a carafe of house white wine, which he didn't seem to understand. During dinner we ordered 2 large glasses of white and 2 large glasses of red wine. The next day after I settled our bill I discovered that we had been charged £9:90 for the 2 bruschetta, and about £20:00 for the 4 glasses of wine. When I later 'phoned up and queried the price of the bruschetta, Darren said that when an extra is ordered as a starter the price goes up. However he made no mention of this when we ordered our dinner. I also felt that the price of the wine was a total rip off.

Review 98:The hotel is situated in its own grounds with car parking space in the middle of a lovely victorian town, and is ideally placed for exploring the Elan Valley dams, and travelling the mountain road to Aberystwyth. The hotel staff were friendly, and the dinner and breakfast food was of good quality We would stay there again.

Review 99:Staff in the morning very under average, not helpful. Room cold, only 1 radiator working.

Review 100:Staff on arrival very friendly and helpful. Room was very nice. Breakfast was very nice, could have done with a menu for options and choices.

Review 101:IF I WAS BEING VERY PICKY THE EVENING MENU ONLY 1 DESSERT OR ICECREAM BUT PROBALY DUE TO TIME OF YEAR.

Review 102:VERY NICE HELPFUL STAFF GOOD BREAKFAST OPEN FIRE TOO GREAT YOU ON ENTRANCE,

Review 103:The public areas, such as lift, stairs and lobbies were in desperate need of some tlc. Dining room is a little sparse and lacking atmosphere.

Review 104:My husband and I traveled with elderly parents on a nostalgic return visit to Llandod. The Commodore had available rooms so we booked despite having read and heard mixed reviews. We were allocated rooms 22 and 23 and I can't recommend them highly enough. They had obviously been renovated recently and were spotless and extremely comfortable. All the little extras such as toiletries and tea and coffee makings were excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It's a shame more use isn't made of the comfortable bar area. Lovely fire in the main lounge which was very welcome on the days we stayed. Very good breakfast, middling to fair dinner.

Review 105:The quality was very poor, cleanliness poor, breakfast disgusting, staff poor, management un-professional, overall not value for money, will not be staying there again

Review 106:The log fire in the lounge area

Review 107:We had a evening meal which was nice but we didn't like the staff preparing the tables for breakfast while eating, also Sunday morning we went down for breakfast at 10am to be told it had finished, the morning before breakfast was at any time but no one told us it was only up to 10am on Sundays.Very disappointed,Hotel looks very tired.

Review 108:The staff were nice

Review 109:Carpet around the toilet, not good even though it was new, it will get a bit smelly before long. Bad stain and smell on the carpet in our room, smelt like urine. Staff seemed to be a bit under pressure, too many "hats"

Review 110:The food was very good.

Review 111:The beds were impossible to sleep in.Room not cleaned or bed made while we were out for the day.Booked table for dinner on first night and was told table ready 6-9. We sat in dining room at 6.30 to be told that we would not be served until 7.30 as a private party was there. The waiter even recomended another restuarant to eat. In the morning breakfast had been eaten by "the party" and the tables hadn,t been cleared, we had to ask for food, cutlery, tea, coffee.Made to feel a nuisance.Ate somewhere else that night. Was offered a £25 refund on the room after complaining.

Review 112:close to Builth Wells.

Review 113:Poor staffing of bar. Private guests have to eat with coach party'sat breakfast. Have to be at breakfast at coach party eating time orbreakfast consists of leftovers. Housemaid left rooms unchanged onarrival. Bathroom plumbing never upgraded for yonks. Masserators inbathroom very noisey (sink / toilet/ bath all connected to onemasserator. In short will not be reccommending this hotel to anyone onlymy very worst enermy'S.

Review 114:Double bed x 2

Review 115:Reception and lift area need updating. Breakfast was eaten before we got Tea and toast. The pump action sanitary ware was very noisy.

Review 116:Room decor modern and clean. Nice view. Good value. Plenty of parking space.

Review 117:The building could do with a lick of paint. The breakfast was not hot, the food containers should have lids on to keep the food hot. Music very loud especially at 1am on Friday nights.

Review 118:Very handy location.

Review 119:Tired rooms, exterior and reception area Cracked bath. holes in Bath surround Damp patches Gas smell in lift and dining room Un-inviting carpark Insects in room

Review 120:The reception staff especially Keely Location

Review 121:I'm pleased it was just the one night! Our room was (felt like) it was on top of the bar which was open until 01:30am Sunday. The Hotel I'm sure was good in its day but for 2014 very dated. Didn't have much to do with the staff apart fro booking in and out - this was a really slow process... again the room was dated with very, very basic facilities - the bed was too soft - sorry, but it was really a poor stay...

Review 122:Close to bowls green...

Review 123:A pub/club with a late licence attached meant that revellers were chatting until the early hours!!!

Review 124:The room we were allocated was very well presented and clean. We had a dog with us and at no point did we feel uncomfortable having him in our company. I did try to re-book in with this hotel but they were fully booked.

Review 125:Cleanliness was a little poor first room had dirty pillow cases and sheets, loose headboard. Second room had used Blood glucose sticks on floor and dirty bathroom floor.

Review 126:When there was an issue with the room it got changed immediatly. Breakfast was brought out quickly.

Review 127:The checking in was a slow and trying as the computer used was not up to the job aand we had to wait a long time before the bar man came to help. The hotel was very tired and in need of some repair. Some of the buildings attached to the rear of the hotel are falling down. There was a lot of rubbish also. A piece of wall fell off while my daughter. Was in the shower. Checking out took just as long as the computer was on a go slow .

Review 128:The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good with plenty of toast. The views were spectacular .

Review 129:Only slight downside was the first impression the reception area was a little dated, nothing like the lovely room

Review 130:The room was lovely, decorated well, spacious, comfortable bed, and very clean.

Review 131:Hotel and rooms really dirty, dusty and smells. Dogs roam the hotel. No staff to be found when needed and breakfast was poor. If staying I suggest not on a Friday or Saturday night as pub is just below the rooms and is very noisy.

Review 132:Location was ok.

Review 133:Landidrod Wells is a convenient centre for Mid-Wales, but the hotel is situated on a crossroads with slightly awkward exit for a car. The (relatively) new owners were clearly trying to renew and refresh the hotel - which had a slight air of having "seen better days" (not unlike the town itself) and were making good progress, despite a certain untidiness in the common lounge.

Review 134:The food was palatable if perhaps a little plain, the beds were comfortable, the water was hot and the staff were helpful, obliging and thorough. We were given the Bridal room and that was spacious.

Review 135:Breakfast Asked for coffee, served tea, asked for toast which didn't arrive and had to ask again.

Review 136:The room was clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful and friendly. Newspaper was delivered by hand to the dining room.

Review 137:Nothing thanks

Review 138:Really friendly staff. Room was great.

Review 139:Uncomfortable bed, broken toilet, old fashioned lift, disastrous decor, menu straight out of the 70's, misleading website

Review 140:It's location

Review 141:No internet signal in our room.

Review 142:Location and ambience
