Reviews for Hôtel-Restaurant Le Normandie
Review 1:Small room and en-suite. Toilet seat loose. No proper curtains. By the time we arrived the restaurant and bar were closed 10pm. Breakfast quite basic continental.
Review 2:Convienient for the ferry.
Review 3:only net curtains on the windows and shutters on only one window.also no hanging bracket for the shower head.it made having a shower very awkward.
Review 4:comfortable room and proximity to ferry port.
Review 5:On return journey I had booked twin room without stating it needed to be on first floor. Had to take double on 1st floor instead. My fault but room and en suite extremely cramped.
Review 6:Close to ferry port. Clean, comfortable beds. Breakfast fine.
Review 7:Both room and en suite on homeward journey very cramped. Had booked a twin but did not state I wanted first floor so took double on first floor as replacement. Accept this was my fault..
Review 8:Room was clean on both outward and return visit. Beds very comfortable. Very convenient for ferry port.
Review 9:In room 11, the position of the lavatory is very constricted for anyone who is not a cat-walk model...and I'm not. I'm a larger model ! It's physically impossible to perform certain functions (de se torcher le cul, par exemple !)
Review 10:convenient location, welcoming staff, comfortable conditions, reasonably priced good food.
Review 11:We did not have dinner in the restaurant the night we stayed but decided on a coffee and nightcap before retiring found the service an attitude of the bar man a little offish as thought we had no rights being there as we had not dined there. There are many hotels and guest houses and may well consider those for our next trip
Review 12:Very Helpful receptionist and the rooms were of a standard that matched the price
Review 13:I thought that the breakfast was overpriced at 10 Euros. Advertised around the corner was just 5.90. I know where I will go on my next visit
Review 14:The accomodation was great and very close to our arrival and departure in France
Review 15:excellent location in Ouistreham - close to local shops - great choice of excellent boulangeries. fish market very close and literally stone's throw from the ferry port. hotel itself is good and functional. Clean and welcoming. the restaurant is well worth a look and has a good choice of food and wine - really excellent local cider!
Review 16:Serious need of up-dating the decor - it shouldn't cost too much for them to do. It would be excellent then.
Review 17:Very friendly and helpful staff. Good food in the restaurant. There is a secure place for your bike if cycling.
Review 18:The en suite shower rooms were very small.
Review 19:We stayed here twice: the first time we arrived on a late ferry and the second time we left on an early one. Neither caused problems for the hotel and reception was extremely helpful both times. As a start and end point for our holiday it couldn't have been bettered.
Review 20:The parking area could do with some lighting and the pot holes to be filled in as it is a potential hazard for guests arriving after dark
Review 21:The facilities were excellent and the staff most pleasant and helpful.
Review 22:Staff not too friendly; an okay room but noisy and the restaurant was shut in the morning; would of thought because of their location would of catered for people catching early morning ferry.
Review 23:The position - it was handy for the ferry which we were catching at 8 a.m.
Review 24:This is not a new building, so the creaking floors were no surprise. For me fish menus are not my favourite, but we ate out about 6 times. Breakfast made up for it!
Review 25:Everything really, and we stayed for 13 nights purposely to do the WW2 beaches and memorials + Pegasus.
Review 26:The way we were told to go away at reception after arriving half an hour too soon , very dated rooms , bathroom very small an very dated , couldn't walk around room without floorboards creeking .... Annoying
Review 27:Location
Review 28:Room very basic, No Tea/Coffee making facilities in rooms so when getting off late ferry no chance of a warm drink. TV but all French channels (No English), Only a voil (Net) up at window so very light in rooms. Car park very dark and gravel so if on a motorbike be careful. Shower needed re grouting.
Review 29:Excellent Location for Ferry (2 minutes from getting off) and Port Area, Food in Restaurant Excellent, Staff Very Helpful. Breakfast basic but plenty full (both extra not in price) Free carpark behind and side of hotel
Review 30:We found the mattresses to be very firm. For us they were quite uncomfortable. Accomodation generally most acceptable.
Review 31:Very close to Port ,good restaurants nearby and a good staring point for a great number of tourist attractions. Quiet location.
Review 32:The bathroom was laughable with the toilet being accessed by squeezing between the shower cubicle and the basin. The room and furniture was very 1950's no door even on the "wardrobe",the table and chair a reject from a bric a brac sale !! This was room 11.I have stayed here before but not in this room and although lacking in decor ,have been acceptable!
Review 33:Location and bed was fairly comfortable
Review 34:The room had a damp feel when first entered, we turned the heater on which warmed it up, the decor was touched up with a different colour paint, the room was very basic, bathroom cramped, we got to breakfast and most of the bread had gone, no one on hand to replace it, overall not a great hotel for the bucks they charged, it's probably a night stay hotel because of it's location with the ferry, we originally booked it for our return also, but then cancelled, the hotel could try a lot harder and not for a lot more outlay. It felt like a cheap bedsit.
Review 35:checking out
Review 36:Nothing, it does not pretend to be a big flashy hotel and is good value for money.
Review 37:This is a long established hotel at the port of Ouistreham. It has never failed to provide us with a favourable stay usually one night this time for two. It lived up to our expectations, as well as its proximity to the ferry, it's food is always of a very good standard. The rooms are not overly big but are very clean and nicely made beds.
Review 38:We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The hotel was in an ideal position, was clean and the staff were very friendly and polite. We had a meal in the restaurant which was very good and again the staff were very friendly. Would recommend this hotel to friends and relatives.
Review 39:Unfriendly service after initial welcome. The bar closed at 10.00 and the reception area very shortly after. Small rooms and tiny bathroom with light switch at furthest point from the door. Breakfast was good but had to keep asking for refills of items
Review 40:The location, especially if using the Portsmouth ferry by car or on foot. Also very close to bus stop with frequent services to Caen.
Review 41:After the over complicated food of the Logis hotels it was a joy to have first class French cuisine. Very good house wine at a good price. Good location for Normandy beaches and worth more than an overnight stop on or off the ferry
Review 42:We were put in the annexe across the road and the WiFi did not work, either in our room (20) or in the downstairs lounge. We had to go to thesmall lounge near Reception in the main building to get access. The wash cubicle was very cramped.
Review 43:Very close to the ferry terminal.Easy to find.
Review 44:Bedroom very poor. Bathroom absolutely awful, tiny (less than 2m by approx 1m!!) and barely usable. Room 5 should be excluded from any future offering by booking.com if possible.
Review 45:Convenient location. Very good reception and helpful receptionist. Comfortable seating area by bar and reception area.
Review 46:The room was extremely small and smelt musty however the bathroom was a work of art. I would like to congratulate the plumber who managed to fit a shower. Sink and toilet into a tiny room measuring about 4 feet by 8 feet.
Review 47:Handy for the ferry.
Review 48:Plumbing a little noisy from rooms above
Review 49:Evening meal was excellent and good value for money. Wine list was a little expensive. Left before breakfast for ferry.
Review 50:The only problem we found was that the bedroom did smell of smoke as though someone had been smoking in there. When we said this to the member of staff she said the smoke smell was coming from outside, not so !!!
Review 51:Clean and very convenient for the ferry
Review 52:this so called hotel was about as good as fawlty towers, no curtains at window, en suite was about abig as a matchbox, the toilet had a whooshing sound on the flush and it appeared that everybody had the same problem as you knew when anybody visited the toilet, shower was very tight, bed was very small, only one pillow per person, only two plug sockets one hidden and the other about inches from floor, en suite door was very noisy, fortuneately we had to catch an early ferry so we did not have to stomach the food
Review 53:nothing
Review 54:Friendly staff. Very good restaurant - probably the best food we had in France, and very reasonable. Decent bed, room and shower. Very convenient for the ferry. Our room (at the back) was quiet.
Review 55:The room was like a cupboard with a small double bed, accessible from one side only. The toilet/shower equally small.
Review 56:Great location.... Very central and close to the port
Review 57:Check-in staff member very surly. Our enquiry as to the security of the parking for our motorcycle met with a shrug. Accommodation in annexe, along with most other British guests, smelt stale and of smoke. Shower room smaller than most caravan facilities.
Review 58:Leaving early next morning.
Review 59:The bedroom was small and poor value for money but this was made worse by the absurdly small shower room. There was insufficient room to get dry after a shower and it was almost impossible to sit on the lavatory since there was nowhere to put ones legs.
Review 60:The staff and food were of an acceptable standard.
Review 61:Was placed for the first time in the annexe across the road. Room okay, apart from the smallest bathroom closet ever experienced. If they got rid of the ridiculously over large sink it would make it easier to use the toilet & dry yourself after the shower.
Review 62:restaurant meal was lovely. Well located for ferry but also has neighbouring bars & restaurants
Review 63:Lack of curtains cutting out the daylight at night Also no visible sign of an English TV channel or dubbing in English
Review 64:The situation near the port and the food
Review 65:Booked a twin bed but recieved a double bed. No coffe/tea making facilities , room very sparse and dull . Shower very high from the floof , accident waiting to happen !!!!
Review 66:Only the location , close to the ferry .
Review 67:Stayed many times but this time the room was particularly small, over the kitchen area with smell of chips coming up through noisy kitchen fan. Bathroom so tiny could barely sit on the loo. However first bad experience out of several visits.
Review 68:Proximity to ferry and open for arrival until 10.30. So many of the hotels close early. Parking easy.
Review 69:Although not a concern for me, others in my group were disappointed not to be able to hook into the free Wi-FI.
Review 70:This is the 3rd time I have stayed at this hotel. I have always had a good experience here. The evening meal in the restaurant is excellent. The location is ideal. It is close to the beach and close to the ferry port. This means that when you are leaving there is no mad rush to make it to the ferry port on time.
Review 71:The rooms are basic and the bed was uncomfortable. We were only allowed one pillow each!
Review 72:This hotel was in an ideal location for our trip around the Normandy beaches and museums. Plenty of good restaurants and bars nearby so we didn't have to go far.
Review 73:Blankets on bed, I prefer a duvet! I wanted to eat in the restaurant but when I asked the waiter if they did vegetarian menu he said we only have that and pointed at the menu! So I went up the road!
Review 74:Handy for the port, nice to have the car off the road.
Review 75:Room far too small, just enough space to walk around bed. En suite was cramped and offered little privacy. Poor bedding, thin pillows, sheets and blankets as posed to duvet on bed. The town closed up by 10pm at latest so if you are on the ferry that arrives at 9:30pm best to make sure you've eaten and have supplies before landing in France. Hotel restaurant is reasonable when it is open, small bar area which is also closed by around 10pm.
Review 76:Proximity to port
Review 77:The rooms were cold with no heating and one of the rooms windows had only a net curtain and no where to hang one to reduce the light.
Review 78:Close to the ferry and ideal location for visiting the British and Canadian D Day beaches and Pegasus bridge.
Review 79:No major problems but be aware that the rooms are very small. Not a problem for a one night stay before catching the ferry.
Review 80:Ideal for the ferry. There is plenty of parking and they are well geared for the overnight traveller. The restaurant is reasonable and a convenient place to eat, particularly if the weather is bad.
Review 81:few english speaking in reception
Review 82:two night travelling in Normandi. hotel is small and old, they have wood floor, make some noise when walk through, but quiet at night, very clean and comfortable staying
Review 83:Smallish shower room but perfectly clean and fine for a short stay.
Review 84:Clean and comfortable . Restaurant staff excellent- food very good. Reception staff friendly too. Good parking and central location. Our second stay and we will return.
Review 85:The annexe is not so good... Funny smell last time?
Review 86:We have stayed here for years and it's always been the same. Ask for a quiet room at the back? Rooms not big but hey it's straight into bed.... What's not to like
Review 87:bit faulty towers. room dowdy and not too clean. arrived at 10.00pm no chance of even a sandwich. staff - the gentleman was quite snappy. floorboards creaked abismally
Review 88:proximity to ferry port. only good point really
Review 89:Very close to Brittany Ferry port with good friendly staff. Facility to access hotel out of hours if your ferry is delayed at night. Clean room with ensuite and excellent food and wines in a nice setting.
Review 90:The breakfast was poor, with several of the items provided, not looking very fresh - the bread not very far off being stale, the croissants seemed to have been reconstituted several times and the so say fresh fruit looked as if it was several days old. overall not worth the 10 euros a person we had to pay. I shall be thinking twice about having breakfast here if I use this hotel again. Also, I do feel that it is about time that there should be tea/coffee making facilities in each room as standard.
Review 91:The location of the hotel was ideal.
Review 92:We have 2 dogs and they had to sleep in the car overnight not good in minus 5. Not sure if any are pet friendly in the area required.
Review 93:The reception staff were very welcoming and understanding of our needs. The hotel is 3 minuets walk to the ferry port, it has a large free car park and is very clean.
Review 94:The hotel was in good condition but dark and didn't really seem open with lights off. The bar looked closed so we ate and drank at the nearby restaurant which was excellent. Also the hotel has a funny smell. Not unpleasant but just strange. We would have stayed in the hotel to eat if they had turned the lights on .
Review 95:The location close to the ferry port and several restaurants and bars close by
Review 96:Bedroom a bit small and old fashioned but we expected this from earlier reviews it was acceptable for a one night
Review 97:Convenient for morning ferry good parking facilities...very good evening meal and friendly staff
Review 98:Interesting bathroom which must've been made out of a cupboard. Not much room for men shaving / washing in the sink as it's too easy to bang your head on the shelf above, and who thought of putting the shower receptacle 6feet up a wall?
Review 99:Easy access to the car ferry primarily and close to the centre of Ouistreham, and obviously the seaside. Didn't eat there but opposite is a fabulous inviting restaurant La Roulis. It was crowded with people getting the late evening ferry.
Review 100:Room to small--No tea/coffee/kettle in room--continuous knocking throughout the night as though something was flapping in the wind, en suite disasterously small and scruffy, toilet seat loose ,towel hook fell out of wall-- Old screw holes in the wall, 20 euros dearer the Campanile & Kyriad etc--never again!!
Review 101:Nothing
Review 102:The bar closed at 10:30 and we were told to leave - we felt like naughty children being told to go to bed. We will not return, even though the location is excellent for the car ferry.
Review 103:The ground floor gents toilet urinals were installed by the Brobdingnagians, or the Haarlem Globetrotters; I had to stand on tippy toes to reach and I am 1.74m (Mr Average) tall, yet the bathroom washbasin was installed by the Lilliputians, as we had to bend down low to wash ! When entering the Restaurant at 8:30pm, last orders 9:00pm, only 5 tables were taken. We were advised to "choose our own table". We did, a nice one by the window. "Can't sit there, it's for 4 people". We had to sit at the rear of the restaurant at a 2 place table. The three 4 seat tables remained unoccupied all evening ! Our double bedroom on the second floor had the squeakiest corridors and floors we have ever experienced, even squeakier than Castle Vlad !
Review 104:Cuisine Comfort
Review 105:bedroom too small pillows lumpy mattress uncomfortable no heating no english tv breakfast only continental and pricey bathroom no room to swing a cat no english spoken even though advertised
Review 106:location
Review 107:The bed was rock hard, just like sleeping on the floor. Very small room.
Review 108:The location, at the port but not on the main road. Good parking. Nice restaurant, but don't be in a hurry!
Review 109:In Room 4 there is a large window on the side of the room with frosted glass but it does need a curtain or blind as the lights from the road shine through all night and we would have slept better if it had been darker.
Review 110:Staff were very accommodating and as I have a problem with stairs they changed our room to the 1st floor Room No. 4. On the small side but adequate for just 1 night. Close to the Ferry and good parking which suited us fine
Review 111:The food in this area if you do not eat meat is a problem. The meat is not cooked properly that also applies to the fish. No vegetables anywhere.
Review 112:Very easy access to the WW2 beaches and the Tapestry.
Review 113:We suppose they don't need to refresh the rooms as there will always be people booking due to the location. We know France can be expensive but 12 euros for a small brandy was over the top.
Review 114:We booked this hotel based on the location to the ferry terminal. As mentioned in other reviews, the room was tiny with creaking floorboards and squeaky door. The restaurant food was good but didn't have breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 115:last check in 10.30pm, staff not too friendly when we arrived 10.20pm. No food or drink available after 10pm. Breakfast from 7.30 - no good for the early ferry
Review 116:good location for the ferry
Review 117:Our room had a bad smell, and was very simple for the price. The breakfast was not good for the price -- the cafe across the road was charging 5euros for an adiquate breakfast !
Review 118:very convienient for the ferry port
Review 119:Room was awful, miniature bathroom which was dirty. Ground floor adjacent building room with no curtains (did have shutters apparently). Dumped bags in room, went for a look around, discussed the quality of the room and decided to leave. Was charged the full amount. Would definitely NOT recommend.
Review 120:Position
Review 121:Sent across road to a room in an annex building which was not staffed and not particularly attractive, then up a narrow staircase to the room - all a little bit cheerless on a rainy evening!
Review 122:very close to ferry port clean, basic, perfectly adequate annex good for early, quiet departure
Review 123:Poor quality of furniture and fittings in a tiny bedroom. Bathroom also incredibly small. Seemed like a third rate bed and breakfast establishment. Will never return!
Review 124:Convenient for ferry
Review 125:no wifi access, all rooms far too small, especially the bathroom & toilet areas, too small. restaurant too expensive compared to local sources......
Review 126:The bar was shut by the time we arrived (10 pm) and it became a real problem to find a cup of tea (there are no kettles in the rooms, in line with French fashion). The bath contained various samples of human hair, not very nice.
Review 127:Good and friendly staff. Good location - a short walk from the harbour
Review 128:Both my wife and I thought that the quality of food was not of a very high standard. We both thought that the hotel was over charging both in the restaurant and the breakfast room! Breakfast is not worth 10 euro, in our opinion.
Review 129:This hotel is in a very convenient position for ferry crossings to and from the UK. Staff are very helpful friendly and informative
Review 130:Tiny rooms and bathroom. Breakfast poor value for money at 10 euros
Review 131:Location - 2 mins from ferry for late night arrival check in forovernight stop.
Review 132:For an overnight stay, there wasn't anything that i didnt like
Review 133:Hotel in an excellent location, easy to find and clean, comfortable rooms. Stayed overnight after getting off ferry on way to holiday home in pornic & shared room with my toddler. Very comfortable
Review 134:Bedroom very small and musy smell Old blankets on bed Bathroom tiny and very dated Did not use restaurant so cannot make a comment
Review 135:Easy access for ferry
Review 136:Room was very clean and adequately equipped and comfortable, but decor was dated, and the room and bathroom we had were very small. To be fair, this was a one night stay en route to main holiday destination
Review 137:Staff were very friendly and helpful
Review 138:Nothing worth a mention.
Review 139:Friendly helpful staff, excellent location, relaxed and informal ambiance. Hotel found to be well organised, clean and in good working order. Food that we ate was of a very high standard.
Review 140:Our room was very small - there was only just room between the bed and the wall for me to get out of bed without having to climb over my husband.
Review 141:Ideal location for the ferry - just off the main square but only a couple of minutes drive. Restaurant at hotel but plenty of others in immediate area.
Review 142:No wifi! No tea making facilities No animals accepted
Review 143:We were only there for one night but had to go right to the top of the hotel to our room ( we are in our 70's) not good late at night when we had driven from Central Brittany to Caen.
