Reviews for La Villa Andry (ex: St-Georges)

Review 1:No real dislikes perhaps some upgrading in due course.

Review 2:Excellent locality for the ferry and secure parking. Large, comfortable beds, a good and varied selection of food for breakfast in pleasant surroundings.

Review 3:Walls a bit thin, could hear the conversation and TV from the next room. Hot water took a while to come through. Could do with a revamp as it is a bit tired.

Review 4:Very close to the Portsmouth Ferry. Friendly helpful staff. Secure parking.

Review 5:As already mentioned the building itself is a little shabby in places but everything is kept clean and tidy despite this.

Review 6:Great location for ferry terminal and close to beach and casino area. Has the usual signs of old age typical of this type of hotel but furniture and fittings modern and nicely appointed - hotel under new ownership so maybe the fabric of the building will be getting tidied up too. Restaurant and bar area very nicely done - fully glazed with views towards the coast.

Review 7:None.

Review 8:The reception staff were very willing and helpful. We have stayed here a few times now which speaks for its self. 3 mins from ferry port so can be useful when arriving on the 21.30 ferry or leaving on the 08.30 ferry. Could stay longer the beach is 2 mins walk away.

Review 9:Ok with us but. U suspect some guests might like a lift for the. 4 th floor

Review 10:Lovely sheets , clean and comfirtable . Proximity to ferry - and nice Restos near by

Review 11:Unfortnately the car park at the hotel was full and we had to look for alternative parking. A secure car park was one of the reasons we chose this hotel

Review 12:Check in time was until 23.00 which was very useful as we arrived fairly late after a long journey. Receptionist was very helpful

Review 13:Overall the meal in the restaurant was good, but my wife's beef cheek dish was excessively salty and she couldn't finish it. We mentioned this to the young waiter but he just said "ok" when we suggested that he mentioned it to the chef.

Review 14:The location and friendliness of the staff. The hotel is very clean, but perhaps an upgrade on decoration I.e. Paint The restaurant decor is quirky but good

Review 15:Bathroom basic -; needs refurbishing. Pity no English language tv

Review 16:Private parking. Excellent evening meal. Welcoming reception staff and attentatiive waiter service.

Review 17:Everything was okay, but rather noisy plumbing - early morning shower must have woken everyone!

Review 18:Conveniently located for ferry, beach & restaurants/cafes. Very good breakfast.

Review 19:Access to car park narrow, ok for cars, tight for anything bigger.

Review 20:staff were pleasant, pets allowed at 5 euros a night each. Quiet, car park on site, we had a beautiful sea view and easy access to ferry port.

Review 21:The room was described as a double plus two single beds. In reality it was two single beds plus a fairly decent-sized fold out sofa bed. This was very creaky and not very supportive. It led to a poor night's sleep and means that the other members of the party were also disturbed by the noise of the bed and getting out to use the bathroom. It would be better also to have carpet on the floor of a bedroom regularly used by small children as the noise of them moving about on a hard floor must have been an issue for those below us and made us stressed about noise disturbance when we got up early for the ferry. The restaurant was good aside from the lack of any provision for children and the demand for dessert orders with starters and mains which was just a bit strange.

Review 22:The room was spacious, with plenty of room for a family of four. There was a lovely view of the beach from our room (worth the long steep climb to get there) and the hotel is very usefully situated near to the Ouistreham ferry port (which was why we chose it originally). There is a nice restaurant on site, which seems popular with guests and locals.

Review 23:Very noisy residents. Even heard someone fall out of bed.

Review 24:We will return, not least for the cool restaurant space. Would love to have seen it as a family home.

Review 25:Carpeting on stairs and in room should be replaced

Review 26:The public facilities were lovely, room was spacious and had nice view, staff was very accommodating, polite and informative.

Review 27:We were happy with all aspects of our two-night stay. Room was small, but that was expected. Staff was very friendly and helpful despite the French-English language barriers. Our view of the English Channel and beaches was outstanding. Our room was on the second floor and higher up than we are used to. We carried up only what we needed and left luggage in the small car park which is locked at night. Both breakfasts were very good. We enjoyed dinner at nearby restaurants and donated to the local casino. Nice stay, close to ferry.

Review 28:Parking was in nearby street. The hotel park was full to overflowing.

Review 29:Very handy for the port. Confirmable place. Pleasant breakfast. We arrived late one night and there was a pleasant welcome, which was great.

Review 30:Hotel staircase and landings to rooms look very tired and in need of a refurbishment. As do bedrooms.

Review 31:Close to ferry terminal, very pleasant helpful staff, easy to locate, sea views. Bedding/towels clean and fresh.

Review 32:Despite me having no grasp of the language the staff member was able to interpret everything I was saying and even provide me with vital information. Also it was clean.

Review 33:Small and very basic room. Bathroom tiny with no room to move around and towel rail hanging off wall. Took over 5 minutes of running bath tap to get hot water coming through. Carpets in passage were shabby and stained. Room had extremely thin walls and we could hear every word spoken in adjoining rooms. Unlike other hotels we have stayed in in this location, there was no Tea / Coffee making facilities.

Review 34:On site parking

Review 35:Hotel stires carpet had seen better days, hallway to rooms had an automatic light switch, so although not an issue us was for our partly sighted sister.

Review 36:Beds were comfortable ,clean ,tidy rooms although slightly small. Quite noisy, but didn't disturb our nights sleep , breakfast was good with both a hot and continental selection.

Review 37:It needs a little updating and repair, but one needs to consider it is a very old building.

Review 38:The staff were amazing, we were upgraded to a very big room at the front with a sea view, it was great. The restaurant was first class and decorated in an incredible French Style -loved it. Perfect position for the ferry. The area was once again full of history. Loved it.

Review 39:It's some kind of smell in he hole place, also we didn't like the smell of the towels.

Review 40:Didn't like the woman that made the check in. She made a mistake, she didn't give us the right room, we didn't receive the room with a see wiew. Quite unpleasant. But the man that was working in the morning made all thing better. He is a nice guy, we explained the situation and offer us the breakfast for free. By the way, very good breakfast.

Review 41:Bathroom was poor; parking was poor ; room was small

Review 42:Location; Food was excellent and good choice. The only waiter was excellent with service, information and helpfulness.

Review 43:We were in room 27.It did seem quite small and the bathroom was awkward to get into as the door opened onto the hinge of the bedroom door.It all seems rather tired. This hotel seems to be more concerned with the restaurant than the bedrooms.

Review 44:Our dinner in the restaurant was really good.

Review 45:There was very inadequate parking even though I checked first as I had a disabled passenger but we got the last space - only room for 10 cars & everyone else had to find a place away from the hotel on the streets. There was no lift to the 3rd floor & I saw many older people struggling with cases. No drinks were available and the restaurant was shut on a Sunday evening but this wasn't mentioned in the details

Review 46:The bed was reasonably comfortable

Review 47:The common areas like staircase are in need of refurbishment There was inadequate parking We had to park about 100 metres up the road

Review 48:Location is convenient

Review 49:Friendly welcome at Reception. Secure overnight parking. Convenient location. Very comfortable bed. Sea view. Good lighting in bedroom. Lovely powerful shower.

Review 50:No wifi, hotel tired and in need of upgrade in part. Restaurant lacked any service finesse. Bedroom was a more expensive sea view but the view was limited.

Review 51:The hotel is ideally situated for the town and port

Review 52:very dated and worn. locks on the bedroom doors unbelievably loud so when everyone is starting to move at 6.00 in the morning the whole place knows it. Yet again a hotel that boasts about its restaurant but is firmly closed on a Monday eve and doesn't tell you that until you arrive.

Review 53:good location for the ferry

Review 54:It would help if the showers had a curtain.

Review 55:Very convenient to visiting Pegasus Bridge and the beaches. It has a lovely garden which our young grandson enjoyed and it was lovely to sit out in the sunshine to have a drink. Staff we very helpful putting up a travel cot for our young grandson. Restaurant was very good. Very close to Caen Port for our return journey home.

Review 56:Only negative would be that it was a long hike up to the third floor as there is no lift - but probably helped burn off two weeks of very good eating!

Review 57:Great hotel for a pre-ferry stopover. Friendly staff, great view from the room and quick walk to the beach. Little garden was great for kids to run around in after a long drive. Although the website says no parking we managed to get a space in the little car park behind the hotel and there was plenty of on-street parking too. Five minutes to the ferry terminal in the morning - perfect.

Review 58:Not only is it a hotel , it's also a popular local seafood restaurant, the clientele left relatively late , disturbing what was going to be an early start to the day . Could perhaps suggest that the side (original) entrance is used by them rather than the hotel entrance at the back of the hotel . Keeping everyone happy

Review 59:Quiet area of town , off street parking , short walk to the beach , good base for exploring the Normandy beaches for a day . 5 minute drive for the Caen(ouistream) ferry . Good value for money , would stay there again

Review 60:Decor and carpets upstairs and in rooms very tired and in need of updating. Bathroom smelled damp and had black mould down the front of it. Car park small and when we left someone's car parked outside had been hit and badly damaged.

Review 61:Beds were comfortable with immaculate bedding and WiFi was very good. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Bar and restaurant not open on Mondays but looked very nice. Very close to ferry so ideal for early sailing or late night arrival.

Review 62:'Secure' storage for bicycle was outside to the side of the building.

Review 63:Clean, pleasantly furnished room although in need of decoration. Good sized bathroom with bath and shower.

Review 64:There's no lift but didn't matter in my case. Speaking of cases - the man on reception kindly carried mine upstairs to my room.

Review 65:Hotel was perfectly situated. Staff were wonderful. Loved everything about my stay. If you're interested in No.4 Commando - this is the place for you!

Review 66:Very basic rooms. Poor quality wifi. No air conditioning.

Review 67:Location is good being across the road from the beach and 5 minute drive to the ferry. Staff spoke English and were helpful.

Review 68:No lift, very steep stairs/three flights, up to family room. No info re local museums as requested.

Review 69:Location - on the beach, great for children to play on in the evening. Excellent breakfast! Great view from family room. Great little market during the evening.

Review 70:Location is great, right on the sea front. It was quicker to go back to toilets at hotel than go to the beaches toilets. Just 5 mins walk from restaurants.

Review 71:Am being really picky but would be even better with tea making facilities in the room.

Review 72:The staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. The location is excellent on the seafront and our family room had a wonderful view over the beach area near the casino. Excellent stopover for the ferry but this really is a lovely seaside town worth a stay in its own right. Restaurants and lots to do right on the doorstep. The buffet breakfast is generous and really well done and our early start was accommodated with an early (6.30) breakfast. We loved the garden, including chickens and the friendly dog.

Review 73:Rude reception whilst trying to park/unload car as car park was full. Windows open fully and were quite high up so wouldn't be suitable for families with small children.

Review 74:Location was good for getting the ferry.

Review 75:the room was ok but the bathroom could do with a bit of renovation. we paid extra for a sea view but unfortunately this also came with a lot of noise from the street between 04 30 and 06 00. I would describe this as a restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel and as such I think it was overpriced.

Review 76:the evening meal was excellent.

Review 77:Carpet etc on stairs and hallways pretty tired but the restaurant area nice and rooms good.

Review 78:Great location right over from the beach and five mins from the ferry. Cute little garden outside which had we stayed longer would have been nice to eat in and good for kids to play in.

Review 79:No lift so 2nd floor bedroom 44 steps up from reception. Receptionist suggested noting requirement for 1st floor room when booking

Review 80:Excellent location at sea front and town centre. Short drive to ferry terminal. On site parking (essential in this busy seaside resort)

Review 81:Bathroom tiny and appeared to be in mid refurbishment, towels small and thin, bathroom could have been cleaner.

Review 82:Ground floor, restaurant and breakfast room all beautifully decorated, restaurant food excellent.

Review 83:Staff wasn't particularly friendly or helpful. We stayed here as an alternative to Caen. Room was non-descript and amenities were missing. No hairdryer, etc.

Review 84:Good location for going to Normandy D-Day beaches.

Review 85:Situated really close to the beach and the main market Street. Only spent one evening and night here, but it feels alive, unlike many of the small French towns that seem to die at 7pm.

Review 86:Parking can be difficult as it is also used by restaurant diners as well as hotel guests. They did not have provision for later dining, for guests arriving by evening ferry from the UK.

Review 87:Location on seafront and short drive from ferry.

Review 88:Very close to beach and we were disturbed by midnight revellers but I'm sure this doesn't happen on a regular basis.

Review 89:Beautiful villa. Safe car park. Friendly staff. Excellent restaurant. Perfect location to start or end your French trip from.

Review 90:No lift. Didn't get to try restaurant as was closed. Wifi not very strong

Review 91:Perfect position for watching the beach. 2 streets over from main street shops and restaurants, room large and perfectly fine for our family of 4. Great shower pressure. Close to car ferry to he UK. Staff very fiends, would stay again

Review 92:Unfortunately our neighbours kept us awake with the slamming of their doors but that isn't the hotel's fault.

Review 93:Great location, really friendly. Really good sized family rooms.

Review 94:Only one our room a bit small, but in fairness we were there only one night.

Review 95:Stefan the owner at hand to assist us, at all times, giving us lots of advise to the best visitor attractions close by. Beautiful food, and decor throughout. Sad we were unable to sample there evening meal ,as they weren't serving that night.

Review 96:Nothing.

Review 97:Helpful staff(as there was a ferry strike on). Lovely old-fashioned French property and good breakfast, all within a few minutes of the port. We have stayed here several times and love coming back.

Review 98:Treatment or lack of, by Manager, who could not be bothered to speak to me upon my requesting waiter to turn down the volume of most appalling screeching female muzak. A grossly unwanted noise which assaulted our ears fortissimo during Dinner. I was told it would be turned down, but the result was quite unoticeable. Had an awful meal there the first night, but eat out every remaining night of our week's stay, at a very good Restaurant nearby.

Review 99:Welcoming, friendly and most helpful male Receptionist

Review 100:It would have helped if we had been told this at the time!

Review 101:Restaurant very good, though service slow the night we stayed, due to one of the chefs stranded because of air traffic strike. One of the owners is helpful and charming.

Review 102:The staff spoke excellent English and were very welcoming ,despite a mix-up in the booking leading them to think we were not due until the following day .

Review 103:Drinks and dining expensive, so dined elsewhere. Noisy air con from across the road. Old building in general need of repair

Review 104:Cheap, clean room .Comfortable bed and a good view of the sea front.

Review 105:Creaky floorboards in our room. Worried about disturbing other guests as we had early start next day.

Review 106:Lovely room with sea views. Comfortable bed and lovely white linen. Beautiful garden. Very kind and helpful staff. Friendly.

Review 107:None

Review 108:Very close to Ferryport. Delightful 19th Century Hotel with 21st Century service and style. Helpful staff, superb breakfast (English and Continental). Comfortable bed in a very quiet room.

Review 109:Nothing to dislike

Review 110:Beautiful old building full of character. Stayed many times in Ouisterham whilst traveling to and fro from our French home in the Perigord, but for some reason never stayed here, and can't believe what we've been missing. The patron was charming as were all the staff, we had dinner in the restaurant, which looked as if it had been totally refurbished and to a very high chic standard. The foos was excellent as was the wine and aperitifs. Will definitely ge back.Thank you for an enjoyable experience.

Review 111:I have no dislikes..

Review 112:the room was very clean and the staff where really polite and helpful, I would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.. Top marks ☺

Review 113:The staff were great, really helpful. Restaurants and bars close by, the bus stop for Caen is a 5 minute walk away. Sword Beach is opposite the hotel. I'd certainly stay again.

Review 114:The one thing that let it down was internal noise. The use of the bathroom from adjacent rooms was very audible as well as conversations from the room above. Whenever people came up stairs it was noisy and doors shut noisily. There was also a dog in one room which occasionally barked. I slept very poorly.

Review 115:The staff were courteous and helpful. The room was clean with a very good shower. The location is excellent for exploring the Normandy. There was a good bar and restaurant though the latter seemed rather expensive so we did not use it.

Review 116:The small room with " hold it yourself" shower. The rudeness of the evening staff who were "too busy setting breakfast room" to serve 2 glasses of wine which incidentally is very expensive. Also, the dining room which has an excellent reputation is only open 4 nights a week.

Review 117:Our second visit was welcoming with a pre dinner drink in the bar, a comfortable bed and good breakfast.

Review 118:Very convenient for overnight stay after getting off ferry. Friendly, helpful staff and comfortable room. Great breakfast. Will definitely stay here again.

Review 119:room rather cold . Some horrible perfume used on pillows on first night so we sneezed all night

Review 120:view, traditional house hotel not modern cube, comfortable , tastefully decorated, restaurant looked nice. we will come again

Review 121:The bathroom needed a redecoration and there wasn't a window blind so that you could be seen when the bathroom light was on. Our bedroom was above the reception area and you could hear people talking very early in the morning

Review 122:The staff were friendly and helpful, we had an excellent meal in the restaurant. The bedroom was warm and cosy Very good value for money. We would go again

Review 123:Nothing.....only disappointment was that the restaurant was being refurbished and we had to fight the cold outside to try and find somewhere to eat. Normally the dining experience is truly magnificent.

Review 124:The staff as ever are attentive and perfect hosts. Safe parking as gates are locked at 11pm.

Review 125:No lift to rooms.

Review 126:Excellent location for ferry, beautiful decor, breakfast was amazing, and staff were first class. We recommend to anyone using Caen ferries.

Review 127:We were not told the hotel was being refurbished. We booked on the basis of excellent rating for the food, but the kitchens were closed. The family room has an exceptionally small shower room in need of refurbishment.

Review 128:The location was good for both Ferry and D Day beaches. Good recommendation for excellent restaurant very close by.

Review 129:The decoration is drab and requires refurbishment. The room we had wasreduced to Euro 50, which was just about acceptable. The room howeverwas certainly not worth Euro 79!

Review 130:The location near the sea.

Review 131:Couldn't get shower to work. Hair dryer didn't work. No tea making equipment in the room, no lift to upper floor, no offer to carry baggage, we had to struggle with it up two flights of stairs. Tv had no english channels.

Review 132:A working heater in the room. Comfy bed, en suite bathroom.

Review 133:- The high winds and the noise they made against the windows caused some of us to miss out on a good night sleep on a wonderful and clean bed.

Review 134:- the atmosphere was like a bed and breakfast, but with en-suite. - Our room accommodated a couple with one child, while another room was perfect for one couple. - we were able to sit down in a newly decorated front room that overlooked the beach, and have our own little dinner party. The owner accommodated us with no problems.

Review 135:Limited facilities in Ouistreham during December.

Review 136:The location is ideal for visiting the WW2 landing beaches. There is a good walk along the canal to Pegasus bridge, and a little bit further to Caen. Hotel staff are friendly and the rooms are comfortable. Good buffet selection for breakfast.

Review 137:The shower was very stiff to change from bath mode. The basin was very slow to empty - drain needs unblocking!

Review 138:We were to catch the early am ferry from Ouistreham. Secure car park good. Good location 5 mins from ferry. Comfortable room with view over beach. Would recommend and will stay again. Previously visited.

Review 139:The room was ready for updating and the bathroom was awkward to use. There was a shower attachment over the bath but no shower curtain. This could easily be improved.

Review 140:The room was reasonably well equipped. The heating worked and there was hot water. Secure parking was included. The bed was comfortable and clean.

Review 141:Hotel a little tired - needs some updating and maintenance.

Review 142:Excellent restaurant. Very friendly and helpful staff. Quiet location with good private parking. Very convenient for the ferry port, local shops and museums.
