Reviews for The Peacock

Review 1:A bedroom designed by a gay! A freestanding bath with a full length mirror behind in the middle of the bedroom - No door to the bathroom and the Loo clearly visible from the bedroom - a most seedy set-up!!!!

Review 2:Our large room did not have an actual door between the bedroom and the bathroom, so lack of privacy for the toilet was an issue.

Review 3:Our room was extra large and comfortable. It had a large free-standing bathtub which, strangely, was located in the bedroom, not the bathroom. We used the shower and not the tub. We had dinner in the pub, which was very good and reasonably priced.

Review 4:Very noisy position of the room.unfortunately stayed Saturday and Sunday nights very loud live music across the square went on until the early hours of Sunday morning then woken up at 4.20 by scaffolders putting the market up on Monday morning. Tables directly outside the room so no privacy and very noisy customers (in fairness that is what people do in pubs)

Review 5:Staff were very nice. Food was excellent.

Review 6:room at first glance was impressive, but in the real world never worked, no toilet door, sensor light in bathroom, not a good idea, bath was very dangerous, and took such a long time to fill.

Review 7:setting was lovely, food excellent in bar.

Review 8:Could do with a little more guidance on parking as car park was full and difficult to get out of with it being a market day. not an issue that would stop us staying again though!

Review 9:Lovely staff and great location! Very clean and comfy and ideal for exploring the peaks

Review 10:We could not open the window in the bedroom and we don't like air conditioning. Smallest bathroom ever and across the corridor.

Review 11:Good breakfast but at extra cost of £9.95. A comfortable room but small.

Review 12:The fact that I booked a room that had an en suite bathroom only to find the bathroom was across the landing! I therefore felt I had to pay more for a better room The wash hand basin was ridiculously small!

Review 13:The luxurious duvet

Review 14:At £99 this room is seriously overpriced. There is no space in roomexcept to access bed and the bathroom was a 'cupboard' and veryawkward to use with minute basin and hardly room to turn round. We feelwe were ripped off and should have been half the price. Outlook was overkitchen with fan noise

Review 15:Convenience for livestock market

Review 16:A mirror on the wall where short sighted people such as I could get close to.

Review 17:Quiet during the night but plenty of company in the evening. Food was excellent. Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 18:Nice central location, we stayed on a Thursday and it was very quiet. Nice sized TV, and the room was decorated to a very high standard. Free parking onsite is limited, but we got a space ok.

Review 19:breakfast too early at weekend . so not available to us . insufficient storage ie no wardrobe or hangers provided. bathroom v small. shower drainage inadequate

Review 20:Limited parking overnight.

Review 21:The location was great, in the centre of the Town. The staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The pub was friendly, and well kept, very colourful outdoor, and clean.

Review 22:We stayed in the recently converted barn, which was absolutely amazing and certainly first class, with a beautiful four poster bed, stand alone bath, and a lovely bathroom. It is right in the centre of town too which was great.

Review 23:Small bedroom - very little storage and no hanging space. Parking facility was hit and miss depending on how busy the pub was. Drinks and food was expensive.

Review 24:Location

Review 25:Rooms are lovely, clean and nicely decorated. We opted not to have breakfast during our stay but had dinner. Food was delicious, huge portions and lots to choose from on the menu.

Review 26:- Remoteness of the studio room from the pub - Heating too strong - Bar doesn't accept tabs (pay as you go principle even when you eat) - Room wasn't cleaned everyday - I booked a room in the pub but we ended up with the studio

Review 27:- The pub was nice - Room was quiet enough - Self catering facility in the studio

Review 28:Went to bar when we arrived, girl behind bar gave us a slip to fill in , we did this and while we did she served someone else, that was fair enough, then we stood there waiting for someone to come back to us, she continued serving others, until we had to say excuse me but we have finished, only for her to ignore us, so i said i have paid 109 pound a night for this so would like some service, the owner came eventually took us to our room, which was small and not worth a quarter of what we paid, and we complained about the service and price for what we paid, for him to say i could give you a deal on breakfast, only for him to spend the rest of the weekend avoiding us. Arrogant man who obviously thinks he is busy enough not to bother with us. Oh and also said that we would have got a free breakfast if we hadnt booked through booking.com, and laughed at us because we had! We want some money back because this wasnt worth it at all for the service, facilities anything.

Review 29:Nothing. Location maybe but plenty of places in centre of Bakewell

Review 30:Liked the location, availability of free parking. Room was small but clean and a very comfy bed. Staff friendly and courteous, would recommend for a short stay. Great breakfasts!

Review 31:Pricey for a small double room without en suite. Why is breakfast extra? Everything seems to be overpriced in Bakewell since last visit. 24/7 charges for Council car parking - why? Bakewell seems to be cashing in on its popularity.

Review 32:The food was excellent - thanked the chef in person. Great menus for breakfast and dinner. Real ale good too, though expensive at £3.40 a pint. Top quality venue - highly recommended.

Review 33:The rooms wasn't as higher quality as the pub, but still was very clean and good enough for us

Review 34:The pub is a brilliant traditional place with good quality food and drink, with cosy friendly atmosphere

Review 35:Food & Drink at the Peacock was good, no complaints with the standard & choice, but both are overpriced in our opinion. The pub car park is used by ignorant locals who do not think twice about blocking others in. Very annoying. To be fair to Graham & his team its not there fault, but maybe better signage and a clamping campaign could sort this out? Bakewell in general is an expensive village, the prices for the local Bakewell pudding are particularly eye watering. This is a very popular tourist trap, reflected in the prices.

Review 36:The Peacock is situated right in the heart of beautiful ( but expensive) bakewell. The pub is very nice inside with plenty of hard working staff. 4 other pubs and a Hotel are located within 100 yards of the front door, as are lots of Restaurants/Takeaways. Fantastic walks from the front door, with the spectacular Chatsworth house only 5 miles away.

Review 37:The ensuite was a little small but still ok for us. There isn't a lot of parking spaces.

Review 38:Food was excellent, the staff were friendly and efficient. The bedroom was spacious with a comfortable bed. The location of the Inn was excellent right in the centre of Matlock.

Review 39:I thought I booked for Bed & Breakfast so I was surprised to see this was to be an added cost. Also the main door to our room wouldnt' shut/lock so was left ajar all night and day.

Review 40:Nice comfy room. Heating worked well. I didn't book a table at dinner but as we were residents they soon found us one.

Review 41:Only no wifi cover room area, very unconvinece for guest... Wifi only in bar area is not in top connection... Also limited taxi can booked for guest, pre-booking is very important... But with excellent staff you have nothing to worry about... All good

Review 42:Excellent & Friendly staff Nice food too..

Review 43:We found the prices for drinks in the property a little steep, appx £ 8.70 for two drinks

Review 44:We stayed one night at the Peacock, and found it had an very good location, was clean and tidy, and the staff were very helpful and polite. And if we were in the area again we would stay there again.

Review 45:Nothing

Review 46:Excellent position in bakewell lovely staff and really nice food we also went to the surrounding pubs as they are about 6 near each other would definitely stay again without hesitation but would book direct next time

Review 47:TV didn't work. Didn't appear to work. When we wanted a drink upon returning to the pub around 10.55, we were told it wasn't a drinkers' pub and we couldn't have one. Having paid £129 per night, I found this somewhat annoying. Also, that price didn't include breakfast. Suffice to say we had breakfast elsewhere.

Review 48:Room was comfortable and spacious.

Review 49:The parking was very limited to say the least, had to park and carry baggage from another area. The sink in the bathroom was cracked. No toiletries are provided. on closer inspection the walls in the bathroom were quite marked. Unfortunately the market set up at 05.00 on Monday morning just outside.

Review 50:The outside buildings were very smart and appealing, with brilliant floral displays. Most staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room was comfortable and had tea/coffee making facilities, fresh fluffy white towels. Bed was very comfortable and breakfast was available if required as an extra.

Review 51:I travelled with my wife to visit Chatsworth House and wanted somewhere close by that we had read good things about and Bakewell and the Peacock was that place. The Peacock was absolutely lovely, great setting, very comfortable surroundings and fantastic food. would advise people not to have a starter as the portions are absolutely huge. Would recommend anyone visiting this neck of the woods to stay here.

Review 52:There was no car park due to the fact that tables and chairs were using the space. Car parks were all full and we had to leave our car on side of road - not very pleased with that.

Review 53:Location and Food in restaurant was excellent

Review 54:Poor value for money, room small, cracked sink in bathroom,TV temperamental ,breakfast not included in with the price of the room.wouldnt recommend

Review 55:Central location, near a coop.. and clean.

Review 56:The accommodation itself was very overpriced for what it was, a basic double room and the shower head wouldn't stay in place so it was difficult to shower, breakfast wasn't included in the price either (248 for 2 nights). I've stayed in similar accommodation but for the same price received breakfast, had a four poster bed and a whirlpool bath

Review 57:The food is immense, definitely recommend eating at the Peacock, not the cheapest pub food but definitely worth paying extra for Friendly & helpful staff The location is perfect - right in the middle of the town, a great little country pub

Review 58:The woman that greeted us at the bar when we arrived was very surly not very friendly, no good evening no how was your stay nothing, our room over looked the garden that was noisy till late if you want an early night go some where else ,would not recommend this place

Review 59:The waitress at breakfast was very good

Review 60:Great location in the heart of Bakewell. Rooms are beautifully decorated. Food fabulous and plentiful.

Review 61:Very nice hotel located central to the village. Food fabulous!! Ideally located for beautiful walks and good quality cycling.

Review 62:Absolutely superb facility with extremely competent and professional staff.

Review 63:Noise from market setting up very early in the morning!

Review 64:Friendly staff

Review 65:Car parking.

Review 66:Central location, easy access to centre of town.

Review 67:Bar was a bit pricey

Review 68:Ambience

Review 69:Way overpriced. Room looked like a £65 a night BnB room, not £169 a night! We were totally ripped off.

Review 70:Good food and friendly staff

Review 71:Excellent location modern clean rooms Excellent food and excellent choice

Review 72:Location, food and friendliness of staff

Review 73:Not able to stay longer

Review 74:Friendly staff, Excellent Room and Superb Food.

Review 75:Breakfast was fantastic!

Review 76:Very expensive for a reasonable size bedroom with tiny shower room over a pub and no breakfast

Review 77:Lovely comfy bed

Review 78:NO CHAIR IN BEDROOM! PARKING. A PROBLEM - ESPECIALLY MARKET MONDAY

Review 79:NICE ATMOSPHERE - MODERN ROOM FACILITIES OUT OF OLDER PROPERTY

Review 80:Separate bathroom across landing

Review 81:Location good for me

Review 82:The food was a little overpriced for what you got

Review 83:The bedroom was very good and clean . The staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 84:Excellent location to walk around Bakewell. Just a lovely English pub with good food.

Review 85:WiFi was slow Noisy till late - but we expected it so no problem

Review 86:Very friendly staff

Review 87:No wifi, no parking

Review 88:Seems strange there was no toilet roll holder in bathroom.

Review 89:Great location ,friendly staff. room was modern and clean.

Review 90:Staff unfriendly & unnecessary do's and don't' behind the bar

Review 91:Breakfast not included when you book with booking.com

Review 92:The room was modern

Review 93:The Bed was too small and too uncomfortable

Review 94:The Food was excellent!!!

Review 95:We liked the cosy atmosphere ,nice rooms & good food, perhaps a little more than I wanted to pay,but I have no complaints.

Review 96:Beautiful location, friendly staff and wonderful food.

Review 97:The worst room I've seen let alone stayed in. I would imagine this would fail any hotel inspection. awful ! and what a price !

Review 98:Location, beer

Review 99:No separate dining room

Review 100:shower, no bath overcharged by 1 extra night re bank statement. Manager not particularly interested or apologetic

Review 101:bedroom comfortable

Review 102:Room wasn't worth the money.

Review 103:Food was very good

Review 104:Having to order at bar and pay in advance

Review 105:Good Food Great Location

Review 106:parking,no wi fi

Review 107:food/room

Review 108:Some of the staff could be a little bit more accommodating.

Review 109:Good food.

Review 110:none

Review 111:located in the heart of the town, near supermarket, good restaurant/bar downstairs,

Review 112:Needed to go in a hurry, but at £99 B&B per night, I can go on a cruise FULL BOARD for that and be in a different country every day, AND have a better room. We shall not return

Review 113:Apart from the chef, the staff all looked a bit uninterested.

Review 114:The pub and food was great; reflecting the ambiance of an old Inn. We really enjoyed the front. Super. The rooms in the back though (we stayed in the annex) did not reflect that. And were a bit smelly.

Review 115:very good location in the town. The bed was comfortable and the room is clean. good choice if you would like to spend a night in Bakewell.

Review 116:Older staff who should be more experienced were unsmiling and not welcoming at all. (this alone would stop us returning) Rooms were just about clean. Our room was left unlocked after cleaner had been in. Our bed was hardly made to any acceptable standard. Bedside table only on one side of bed

Review 117:Food was good. Younger girls helping in the bar area were smiley and helpful Selection of beers was good Liked settee in bedroom

Review 118:Paid 129 pounds for one night which I believe was way overpriced for what you got, I've stayed in 4* London hotels for less. Small plain room, small double bed and small shower. Had a problem with the toilet which was not filling after flushing and although repairs were attempted they were not successful and I had to fill the cistern using the waste paper bin filled with water throughout the day and night. I had to ask for a partial refund, which I believe should have been offered without asking, and then only received 20 pounds for my inconvenience (forgive the pun). We stayed Saturday night and went out into Bakewell town for a meal, drink and entertainment so was disappointed to find that breakfast was only served between 08.30 and 09.00, as we didn't fancy getting up at the crack of dawn we didn't make it in time.

Review 119:Nice location, friendly staff and nice popular pub with good food.

Review 120:Quite expensive to stay one night and had to pay extra for breakfast - should have visited local cafe!

Review 121:Friendly staff, large room, comfortable bed, nice pub/restaurant and nice breakfast

Review 122:Room above ours was noisy and also wondered if there are mice or rats in the void above our room as could hear them scurrying about when it was quiet, they weren't a problem though!

Review 123:Excellent food and friendly staff.

Review 124:300 metre walk in pouring rain could be difficult with luggage but we were given a lift Limited car parking.Rather expensive for bed only deal

Review 125:We were in the Studio away from the pub so it was nice and quiet. Very clean and comfortable but it is up for sale.

Review 126:Car park too small. Not clear how to use WiFi. Not easy to findwith Satnav.

Review 127:Courtesy of landlord parking our car in the rain for us when car parkwas full. Massive breakfast.

Review 128:No Wi Fi connection from room in adjoining converted block. Limited parking. Early morning noise from adjacent Monday Market setting up. Good, but not cheap.

Review 129:Excellent food. Pub atmosphere. Central to town, riverside and Peak generally. Satellite channels on TV.
