Reviews for The Falmouth Hotel
Review 1:The rooms were a little dated and hotel seemed to be geared towards more older clients but thats not the hotels fault, as we are a young couple. Room was a little cold at night as the radiators didnt seem to go on at all.
Review 2:Massive room, and clean and tidy.great views from our room. The staff were friendly and helpful even giving us a little guide and places they recommended to go in falmouth.
Review 3:Evening event held in function room directly beneath our room until 1am with loud music from disco. Hotel decor rather tired & dated.
Review 4:Location & sea view.
Review 5:Nothing
Review 6:Had an amazing sea facing executive room. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Evening meal excellent and dealt with my dietary requirements without any fuss. Would highly recommend.
Review 7:I thought the bedroom could do with upgrading the decor, carpet etc.
Review 8:The location to the town centre & seafront views. Breakfast was good as there was plenty on offer.
Review 9:Booked a 3 day break at a cost of £379.30 for what we thought was to be a relaxing break.Garden view room was very small window rotten on the bottom and had no view let alone the garden. Dogs allowed to sit on sofa's in bar area. Tools left in out of order leisure centre shower. We rang and recieved a call back assuring us that the bar menu would be available on New Years Eve (The hotel had a Gala night on) when booking. I also booked a table on the hotel web site which booked us a table into the bar for food. After over hearing bar staff who did not know what was going on with food we enquired at reception and were told due to a change of plan there would be no food available that evening the receptionist was the same person who had checked for us and called! On pointing this out we were told originally there was going to be a bar menu.....Offered to call around and find us a table the last thing we wanted to do was try and find a taxi or a table in town on NYE in gale force winds and rain. Had I been told there would be no food available we would have booked into the Gala evening which was still being advertised. We declined the offer and by lunch time decided that we may as well go home. Gave key in and explain that we would be leaving but the lady began talking to a colleague. Tried unsuccessfully to call the hotel that evening to advise we had checked out so emailed them through their website a week later and still no response from them. Now with booking.com for resolution. I should point out that it was not so much the view from the room that dissapointed us as it could not been seen unless standing on tip toes but the state of the window and that we had no view had the size of the room been better and big enough to sit comfortably with a window to look out of we would have stayed ordered a pizza.......
Review 10:Hotel in good location for Falmouth Docks and Dock railway station, overlooks beach with views out to see short walk into Falmouth. Swimming pool and Sauna clean.
Review 11:Very flexible manager. We had come a day later than booked and he was kind enough to let us use the booking for the following day. Many Thanks! Great views from lounge/breakfast room.
Review 12:Room was advertised as "garden view" but looked over the kitchen roof with pipes and wires. Bathroom had seen better days (in 1960!), in need attention and mould removal.
Review 13:Good location and nicely presented downstairs. Reasonable breakfast, which was fresher if you went earlier. Polite friendly staff. Warm, large room.
Review 14:Generally the hotel appeared tired. Room was dated. Pillow cases were badly stained. None of the bathroom cosmetics were replaced. We had to ask for more. Not enough facilities for size of hotel. Food very expensive in the restaurant.
Review 15:Good location, some of the staff were friendly. Breakfast was good.
Review 16:As we booked the large double room with seaview, which wasn't cheap, the room needs updating. New beds and carpet. When we arrived there was a dirty towel left in the bathroom from previous guest, only 1 dressing gown and no mineral water. It's about attention to detail. This was a birthday treat for us and a break after a very difficult year. For the price we expected a bit more.
Review 17:The Sea View, atmosphere and friendly staff.
Review 18:Location close to town, making it convenient to walk. Room was in a really quiet section of the hotel, which was great as we had our dog with s, so noise levels were low. Breakfast great.
Review 19:Tired bedroom carpets and wall covering. The place needs a bedroom and upstairs corridor interior facelift to bring it up to date (doesn't every large sea side hotel?)
Review 20:Comfortable with nice staff and facilities. Good food Just right for a short stay. Nice bathroom. Would be happy to stay there again
Review 21:Small room for the price we paid. It was very windy outside but the curtains were blowing with the badly fitting windows and the bed was right next to the window and I ended up with a stiff neck. We only stayed 2 nights or I would have asked to move. Hotel internally could do with a refurb.
Review 22:Facility to take your dog. Staff just lovely especially the cleaning staff.
Review 23:It was very windy and was howling through the bedroom windows. It couldn't be helped really and I didn't complain but when I asked if there were any ear plugs to help have a good night sleep I was charged 15p per pair. Felt that this was very unreasonable.
Review 24:Room, food, location and atmosphere
Review 25:In the restaurant staff worked hard, but the service we received was very slow. A number of times we had to chase up our drinks order and we noticed a number of guest getting frustrated with the lack of service. More waiters maybe be necessary.
Review 26:The room was lovely, and we enjoyed the facilities. The location was also great.
Review 27:We did not experience any major faults. We had trouble getting the key into the lock and the shower taps were hard to operate. Room Room 115 has some sort of pump outside which was very noisy it sounded like a loose guard or a air lock in the system. After the first night we sor of got used to it.
Review 28:Rooms were excellent, everything You could wish for regarding wardrobe and drawer space the bed was very comfortable.
Review 29:Price of food. Also, we were offered room for a further night at well below charge for previous nights.
Review 30:Location, as it was near main town and Coast path.
Review 31:Lack of parking space. Hotel is in need of a good refurb as it looks warn and starting to get a bit tatty.
Review 32:Lovely location, staff were amazing, very polite and attentive. Room was good, clean and tidy. Lots of space.
Review 33:Window wouldn't shut properly but room hot so needed some air. Dogs should all be kept on one floor as can be noisy when owners go out, and not fun for other residents.
Review 34:Lovely bathroom and toiletries.
Review 35:We have stayed at The Falmouth before, and enjoyed our stay then, as we did this time. The room wasn't as prepared this time as it was last time. There was an opened hot chocolate, which is a very miner niggle. Also we couldn't get wifi as we were on the top floor, but again a miner point for us as we were staying for leisure. We are thinking of trying your Hotel in Padstow when we go on holiday with our friends later on in the year. We will be back at the Falmouth later on in the year.
Review 36:Food server in the hotel was very pricey and quality and option was very low. We stayed there over Christmas and Boxing day and they could not arrange food for us. Breakfast was very ordinary. Not worth the money they charged.
Review 37:Location of the hotel is excellent
Review 38:Wake up call didn't happen. Reception couldn't verify that taxi had been booked previously so made alternative travel arrangements. Grumpy bar staff.
Review 39:The location, the ambience of an older type hotel.
Review 40:Confusion surrounding the booking, we wanted a room for 3 two adults and one child. This information has not been communicated to the Falmouth hotel. They wanted to charge us an extra 50 pounds for a camp bed for two nights.
Review 41:The breakfast
Review 42:A really odd mix. The hotel is in need of some love and care although tricky with such a traditional seaside hotel. The double bed was made up of two large singles but no topper so not comfortable as a double. Also it was very short and the pillows were like rocks - the whole appearance was of a very wide short bed - really odd. Room decor was not very well done - a mix of tacky and traditional - apart from the lights over the mirrors which were excellent. The bathroom was large but a cheap handbasin and the over bath shower was not easy to control as the taps were tight against the wall despite lots of room at the other end. The buffet breakfast was not great with food under covers for too long and not a great selection of fruit and pastries. It would have been much better if it was all available cooked to order as the chef did brilliantly on smoked haddock with two lightly poached eggs. Staff were not really friendly at breakfast. Having stayed at another in the group I think they need to try harder.
Review 43:Cooked to order breakfast dishes
Review 44:Only downside, no handles in the bath for unsteady old gits, could do with a non-slip bath mat. Also partner says that bath took too long to fill,
Review 45:View from 409 mind-blowing! Staff so kind and friendly. All in all Hotel Paradiso!
Review 46:We didn't have any bad experiences but we did think that the evening meals in the restaurant and bar were both overpriced and that there was insufficient choice for the bar meals. We therefore ate out each evening.
Review 47:The hotel, location, staff and breakfasts were excellent.
Review 48:Very small rooms, if my wife was sat in front of the mirror I had to crawl over the bed to get around the room. Could do with a mixer tap in the bathroom as I burnt my hands when trying to wash them.
Review 49:Friendly and clean
Review 50:During functions the hotel facilities are inadequate for residents. An evening function blasted loud noise until 1-00 in the morning, waking up residents including us. Hotel staff apologetic but unable to remedy this.
Review 51:The location and bedroom
Review 52:We found some of the staff young and inexperienced.drinks and restaurant on the pricy side.
Review 53:The location is excellent, good pool and spa, comfy bed, very large room.
Review 54:lovely hotel, fab location, helpful staff, amazing breakfast choices. Nice rooms with little extras: nice teas, toiletries. Travelled with work colleagues.
Review 55:I had asked for a room away from the party which did not end until 1am , this had not been done at the time of arrival , was done soon after though , but the music was still very disruptive
Review 56:location
Review 57:Really there were two issues which we thought inappropriate but they did not directly concern staff or management. Firstly when we arrived on the Sunday and had lunch and drinks in the beautiful lounge bar there were two children absolutely running riot around the lounge and the opposite childrens area. It was completely disrupting everyone. The parent did nothing. In fact at one point one child nearly knocked me over (I am disabled) they were bouncing on the sofa next to us. I don't know how the poor waiting staff coped with it - especially carrying pots of hot tea/coffee. I really think something should have been said. I did tell the reception staff before leaving. Secondly, the pool area was not exactly clean when we used it on Sunday. Much better on Monday though. However there was again disruptive behavior - not just from children jumping in the pool but also grown men diving in with snorkel/mask (???) and swimming lengths under water and splashing everyone. I had to leave the pool. Also people are simply NOT taking showers in between pool, sauna, hot tub etc so we are just wallowing in other people dirt! Not good. OK not really your problems I know butt think you may appreciate this feedback.
Review 58:All very good. Friendly staff, excellent food, drinks and service. Will definitely be returning soon. Excellent value for money. Many thanks!
Review 59:Parking can be a problem if the hotel is busy. Hotel is in the process of being refurbished and it does need it. It's a bit tired.
Review 60:Staff very friendly. Location very good. Room spacious and facilities good. Food in bar good. Didn't try restaurant.
Review 61:Mouldy bread in the buffet breakfast. I reported to staff but they did not seem too concern. A bit of a worry!
Review 62:The location and the facilities offered. It was clean and comfortable.
Review 63:We were not warned that a very loud band would be playing until 1am. The lady who sat us down for breakfast treated us poorly after I politely asked to sit by the window, and then gave us dirty looks the whole time we were there.
Review 64:The location was spot on, the view was excellent.
Review 65:Management has done a great job of refurbishing this property but 2 swipes of ceiling wallpaper were lose so we stared at these seams while in bed.
Review 66:Ocean front location with old style grand hotel approach. Restaurant & bar areas were superb with excellent food & breakfast. Easy walk to waterfront harbor.
Review 67:Parking was a pain as there was plenty of space but completely filled by different daily visitors, such as Yoga classes, etc rather than hotel guests.
Review 68:Staff great. Good food. Lovely bar with wonderful views of Falmouth Bay and all the ships entering.
Review 69:I stayed in room 411 and it had co curtains in the bathroom, so I had to hand a towel up on the net curtain rail
Review 70:The staff were excellent and could not be faulted
Review 71:The decor is a little bit jaded now. It could do with an update although, actually, this didn't stop us having a marvellous time.
Review 72:Really friendly staff. Victorian hotel charm and ambience. Fantastic location.
Review 73:Too warm in the room. Window only opened a crack which I believe is due to silly health and safety rules. Didn't sleep well due to heat in room.
Review 74:. Breakfast was excellent andbed comfy staff very attattentive. Would be nice if we could have had some air in the room.
Review 75:Breakfast was a bit disorganised over the three mornings we were there. Buffet ran out of various items. Ok for us on holiday as we had plenty of time. Food and drinks expensive.
Review 76:It was really nice to receive a phone call just after we arrived to make sure everything was ok with the room. The staff were friendly and helpful. Dinner was exceptional - lovely flavours.
Review 77:Superb location on the seafront, yet only a ten minute walk into town. The hotel still boasts most of the original Victorian features. Our room was warm, spacious and comfortable, as were the public rooms. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of fresh fruit, cereals etc as well as the traditional cooked.
Review 78:Rooms we're large and spotless. The breakfasts are to die for complemented by the spectacular coastal scenery. Located opossite the Cornish coastline within a 10 minute walk to the centre of town & harbour. Would definitely stop again.
Review 79:First night spent in room 115 which was very noisy due to fan outside. Couldn't sleep but managed to change room next day for following 4 nights.
Review 80:Lovely sea views from restaurant and bar. Close to town centre, Free car park. Nice atmosphere. Swimming pool enjoyable.
Review 81:We requested 2 times in reception to change light bulb in the room which was very dark, I couldn’t read; batteries for TV remote and to fix toilet seat (that was moving) but nobody came to do anything. That was disappointing. We were staying in hotel for 3 nights; beddings were not change.
Review 82:Liked hotel location, room and big bathroom
Review 83:Inexperienced staff dealing with Bill which was incorrect. Waiting so long to be served for food for the one evening meal we had booked to celebrate my daughter's 40th birthday meal. Food was good when it arrived.
Review 84:Being away with my 2 daughters first time for 20 years.
Review 85:First night was poor the food in the bar took over an hour to be served, drinks about 1/2 hr to come . There was a new member of staff at bar undergoing training, it was ok the next few nights .
Review 86:Nice size room in quiet position ,en suite very good . Hotel in a good position for town etc . Friendly helpful staff. Food, including breakfast, very good in restaurant.
Review 87:Excellent customer service, friendly, helpful staff. Have been staying at The Falmouth Hotel over a number of years and always have a wonderful holiday.
Review 88:lack of staff. we were part of a large group and some of us had to wait over half hour to be served at the bar because most of staff were in a meeting maybe need look at this for other times
Review 89:location to train station
Review 90:A little rough around the edges in parts of interior at hotel.
Review 91:Period property in fabulous setting. Pool area was great. Lounge area comfy and inviting with stunning view of sea.
Review 92:Decor in all the hotel but particularly the lounge, dining areas, hall and reception.
Review 93:Nice hotel clean and comfortable but very old fashioned in decor. Could do with some refurbishment whilst keeping the traditional ambience!
Review 94:The Jacuzzi was very small and the pool very cold
Review 95:Excellent value for money breakfast fantastic a wide variety staff very helpful and courteous at all times
Review 96:The hotel was very tired and the mattresses old and uncomfortable. We had to stop the window from rattling. The food in the restaurant was very poor and we did not finish our food.
Review 97:The location of the hotel was good close to the town and with sea views.
Review 98:nothing
Review 99:comfortable beds and room, lovely choice at breakfast, friendly staff, nothing too much trouble, felt looked after, nice atmosphere, extras provided in bathroom and bedroom , large bath towels, nice view.
Review 100:The single rooms at the rear had a lot of constant noise from the fans and systems at the back of the hotel. This meant you couldn't have the windows open at night as it made it too noisy, although the sounds still audible with them shut. The showers didn't have much power and the mixers weren't very user friendly. My friends room didn't have hot water for two days.
Review 101:The staff were very friendly and the food was very nice.
Review 102:n/a
Review 103:The hotel is in a stunning location, the staff were lovely helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable, the bathroom was nice and clean, just great and the food was delicious thank you. we will be back
Review 104:The room was quite small but decorated nicely and even though we had a nice seaview it felt a little bit clostrophobic. It was good at a cheap price, but I wouldn't have like to pay full price for the room.
Review 105:The hotel is in a nice location, has good spa services and the breakfast is great!
Review 106:The room was not the room displayed on the website and the room we thought we were getting. It was very unloved along with the rest of the hotel e.g. spa, breakfast room. One staff member looked at me as though the cat had just dragged me in!
Review 107:The Location was good.
Review 108:My wife is disabled . so the lift was very good, so was parking and the use of ramps. Whilst the food was expensive it was of an excellent quality.
Review 109:It is beautifully situated but my impression was that at lunch and the evening there were insufficient staff on duty to serve bar meals and drinks with guests left waiting a long time and the feeling that the staff were stressed and telling the guests to be patient as they were overstretched.
Review 110:Had dinner in the bar in the evening but food took over an hour to arrive. Walk into town a good 10-15 mins. Bit pricey for the condition of the hotel, we paid £130
Review 111:Worthwhile paying extra for sea view - at night could hear the waves. Came with our small dog and allowed into bar (although initially told by reception not allowed). Good parking. Worthwhile taking the walk along seafront up to castle - stunning views.
Review 112:The staff put a complementary bottle of champagne in our room to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The evening meal I booked was excellent gorgeous food, and the staff where really friendly nothing was to much trouble.
Review 113:service at dinner was slow, service at breakfast even slower. antiques fair seemed to displace dining room to location far from best views - so poor use of best feature of hotel
Review 114:Nice room with great view of bay
Review 115:At check-in, we were given a key to a room which turned out not to be the room we should have been given so, having unpacked, we had to repack and move rooms. At bedtime, we found we were immediately above a very loud disco which prevented any chance of getting to sleep. After enduring this for a couple of hours, we were offered yet another room which we declined owing to the fact we had already changed rooms and it was 10.45pm. In the end, somewhat reluctantly, we were allowed to sleep in a quieter room without permanently moving out of our own one. On checking out, we again asked why we had been put into a bedroom immediately over the disco but no satisfactory answer was given. In the end we were rather grudgingly given a £20 discount. I think this experience will prevent us using this hotel again. The attitude towards guests' comfort and satisfaction leaves much to be desired. In fairness I should point out that the third member of our group, a single guest, was given a quiet, comfortable room from the start and had no problems.
Review 116:The setting is delightful as are the facilities. The beds are extremely comfortable.
Review 117:The room was a bit tired. The window was cracked and not well insulated so I had to put pillows around it to keep out the draught. There was an odd little bunk bed built into the room which gave two extra beds but made the room look very tacky!
Review 118:Location was excellent. Lovely views of the sea. Shower didn't work properly but they sent someone to fix it within minutes of our mentioning it.
Review 119:Great location, very comfortable room, good choice for breakfast and the swimming pool was a great extra.staff were very friendly and helpful. we were in the town after bringing our son to start his uni course and intend to come and stay many more times.
Review 120:The facilities were very poor. the heating system was not working. the condition of room was very old. not too much choice in restaurant`s menu.
Review 121:Just Location close to Falmouth A&P. had pool and sauna.
Review 122:Had to wait quite a long time when ordering food. Very small window in room made it difficult to cool down
Review 123:Lovely building. Feather pillows. Helpful staff
Review 124:Ordered sandwiches and cheese chips ,took 1 hour to arrive when they did there were no chips and the sandwiches were so dry and curled up they could have been made the day before .The bar maid did take them off the bill but I expected a better service from such a well known hotel .
Review 125:Room was very clean and a great size .
Review 126:Noisy small rooms, little bit worn out. TV was not working, fixed it, but still not working. Not cheap.
Review 127:Good location, good breakfast, free parking, good Wifi.
Review 128:To try and think of anything we didn't like would be churlish.
Review 129:Hotel in great position overlooking sea. Staff friendly and attentive, they really make your stay special. Would stay again because we could not fault this hospitality at all.
Review 130:Staff were friendly and helpful, room was spacious and clean, leisure facilities might become congested at peak periods. This is Falmouth's oldest hotel and so not the most up to date, but to offset that its position is wonderful and staff great.
Review 131:We had booked a room with a garden view, which turned out to be a view over the car park and adjacent building site! Rather disappointed on arrival.
Review 132:Wonderful views from the hotel restaurant, lovely spacious new bathroom, easy access to the town centre, great breakfasts!
Review 133:The jacuzzi and sauna are a little on the small side.
Review 134:The room, breakfast, swimming pool and staff were all excellent. We had a bottle of prosecco for our anniversary when we arrived and a courtesy call a few days before asking if we still wanted to book as there was a large wedding taking place on the same day as our visit.
Review 135:The bed in the alternative room offered to us was very uncomfortable on one side. Breakfast was disappointing being buffet style, when on our last visit, your order was taken for a cooked breakfast which was much better.
Review 136:The location is excellent for both sea views/walks and also close to the town and harbour. The hotel lounge is very welcoming, comfortable and has a fantastic view of the bay.
Review 137:Room was extremely cold and had to ask for a heater. Hotel us tired, paint hanging off the walls. Room not as expected. Cake and champagne organised for the wrong day. Car park was a nightmare. If yiu arrive towards the end of breakfast there is nothing left including bread.
Review 138:Food in the restaurant was excellent
