Reviews for Hotel D'angleterre

Review 1:Stairs as disabled. Rooms could be made in en suites. Parking difficult.

Review 2:Location to excellent restaurant and close to ferry for morning sailing. Friendly and most welcoming a postive overnight stay.

Review 3:A quiet location a stones throw from the center of Roscoff. Fantastic welcome and interesting building. Maybe not a place for someone looking for the lap of luxury but for value, friendliness and location - great. Would definitely return.

Review 4:Although the hotel's historic style is part of its charm (and is probably reflected in its pricing), it clearly could do with some investment in upgrading facilities, decor, etc. It's certainly an opportunity for the owners - as is the potential to make the restaurant more compelling (we had hoped to eat dinner there, but the opening hours and the menu drove us into one of the other restaurants in Rostoff).

Review 5:This hotel is ideally located to explore Roscoff and for driving to the car-ferry. The building is a fascinating example of historic French architecture (our bathroom was circular, 'cos it was in one of the building's two towers). Parking is a big issue in Roscoff, but this hotel is sited where you can usually grab a street parking slot.

Review 6:This hotel has HUGE potential, but at the moment it is tired and sad. An enormous redecorate would help no end. The white wine at dinner was like vinegar!

Review 7:We didn't like a lot.

Review 8:The Hotel is a very old building. AS a result the sound insulation between the rooms and between the floors is on par with a garden shed. When the occupier of the room above uses the loo you feel you may get drowned !

Review 9:Two good points:- Convenient location and comfortable bed.

Review 10:The whole place felt a bit worn, the room was dated with old tired carpet and paper thin walls.. not really the type of place to book a surprise weekend for the mrs! but as a chap on my own it was ok, the bed sheets were crisp and clean and the windows opened fine..

Review 11:It was close by the centre, which had some lovely cafes restaurants.. The bed was comfy, the staff were very nice..

Review 12:Disappointed to say the least. We expected the interior & furnishings to be traditional French style (maybe 1950's) and it was, without the French chic, unfortunately. The furniture was certainly 50's or older but the double wardrobe was perched precariously 9" above the floor supported by the soil stack ducting from the bathroom and the door was hanging off it's hinges. The bathroom had a self-contained shower unit plumbed in, in the corner but the bathroom was not tiled, just painted a ghastly shade of dark/dank two tone blue making the whole room dark & dingy and cupboard like. The sound proofing between rooms was non-existent!

Review 13:The location & the traditional French character of the look of the hotel, externally.

Review 14:Booked online for certain price, on arrival was told it was more and that if I cancelled she would keep payment anyway. Felt blackmailed with 3 small tired kids so paid extra.

Review 15:Nothing.

Review 16:Love this hotel! The score doesn't reflect my view as I would like to give it more. We usually stay here when waiting to catch the ferry to the UK and we just love the old-fashioned ambience. Reminds me of France in the 60s/70s. Please don't change it!

Review 17:Only moan was the price of the breakfast, as it was pretty minimal.

Review 18:We loved the location and the beautiful turrets on the building. Very helpful staff. A great start to our holiday in France.

Review 19:Only that wifi was only in communal areas, although booking details did state this.

Review 20:Lovely size room, comfortable bed. Friendly receptionist. Ideally situated for stopover before early morning ferry.

Review 21:Attitude of lady owner money grabbing. It was insisted that we pay up front for our stay after only half hour of arrival. We required a doctor for a 2 year olds dislocated shoulder. She did not help us contact services in any way other hat give us a phone number but on arrival of assistance she was right up front discussing the wherewithal in French to the point of causing delay between the doctor and us. No restaurant or coffee in August!

Review 22:Clean sheets

Review 23:Strange smell in the room, the walls are very thin so you mightneed earplugs if you are a light sleeper, lol. But still a goodplace to stay.

Review 24:Owners very friendly, unfortunately our room had a very strangesmell, we couldn't decide whether it was damp or a sick smell?Room 19!. Owners speak good English but suffered my poor Frenchvaliantly. Great location.

Review 25:Basic facilities, but particularly problematic during this stay was the omission to place towels in my room. As a result, at 10.30pm I was walking around the hotel looking for a staff member to help me out. There was no staff member available, 20minutes later, after a few attempts to phone them a staff member appeared. He brought me a towel immediately, but did not offer an appology.

Review 26:Lovely building, lovely location, good eateries close by, nice personable reception

Review 27:interior a bit too dar and dated, needs renovation.

Review 28:Extremely friendly and helpful owners, the lady and her husband are very nice. Pet friendly hotel with small extra per night. Outside of building is superb and garden is beautiful.

Review 29:This is not the most modern hotel, but it's none the worse for that as it has a charm of its own. The huband and wife proprietors are friendly and helpful and speak good English. The restaurant provides a decent basic menu and is very good value. The hotel is in a quiet street with parking and the location is ideal for town and ferry.

Review 30:Room and hotel generally was very old and dark. Bathroom felt unclean and last guest left a 'gift' in the toilet that the cleaner also left!

Review 31:Good location

Review 32:Friendly and obliging staff, great location for the town and ferry. Slightly old fashioned ambience which has a charm of its own. Decent dinner at a good price.

Review 33:No wifi in the rooms. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room Only one towel per person No hairdryers Shower flooded overnight and soaked the carpet in bedroom and all sorts of detritus was disgorged. Restaurant was closed

Review 34:Very clean Helpful staff Good value for a short stay

Review 35:As on previous reviews, Pillows were Postage Stamp size, however, you can always take your own!

Review 36:Hotel has a genuine French Feel to it, almost like a small Chateau. Lots of interesting features such as some lovely old furniture & cabinets. Very clean & ideal for guests who prefer something with a bit of character instead of boring chain hotels which could be anywhere. Hosts could not be more friendly or helpful. Also in very quiet area only a couple of minutes walk from seafront with a lovely, peaceful walled garden to enjoy a quiet nightcap in.

Review 37:We liked very much the atmosphere of the hotel, its history, antique furniture and very friendly staff. Tha location can not be better being placed just by the historical centre and the harbour of Roscoff. The town itself came as a big surprise. We thought it was some common ferry town, but when we discovered its beauty and the diversity of its many quality restaurants we decided to stay two nights extra.

Review 38:The hotel was very dated and uncomfortable. Lino on floors, dark rooms, cold and damp and very old fashioned. Only net curtains at the windows and the rooms smelt musty and unpleasant. Continental breakfast was very expensive and very limited. Stale roll, fruit past it's best and stale cake! Perhaps this is what French people want from their hotels but it left a lot to be desired for English people. The evening meal was also very limited so we had to look for a restaurant elsewhere. Would not stay there again and could not recommend it.

Review 39:The location was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 40:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was large with a good en-suite. The hotel was near shops and restaurants and the sea. There was parking outside on the road and if no space some parking not far away. We were able to leave the car there while we walked around town and waited to go to ferry.

Review 41:We are sorry to say that the room we had was very poor. The bedding and the beds themselves were comfortable. The room smelled damp and the walls had black mould on the blue painted walls. This affected everything. We were gald we were staying the one night, otherewise we would have complained. As it was we felt uncomfortable saying anything to the owners. The bathroom too is in need of bringing into the 21st century!

Review 42:The location was wonderful. The hospitality was very welcoming. The food was simple and of the highest quality. The whole ambience in the hotel was delighful and had an old world quality reminiscent of the '60s and further back. Perhaps the 60's was when this place had its heyday!

Review 43:We have stayed at there several times and is our hotel of choice when passing through Roscoff. We like the old fashioned decor and ambience but above all, the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners. The hotel is situated on a quiet street but conveniently positioned to be within easy walking distance of the town centre,

Review 44:The raised shower bed (8inches off floor)not easy with my syiatic hip /fallen ankles. handle split so use towel rail to enter, Some hall lights not working Wifi did not work in salon ,but could be my laptop not compatable like Turkey

Review 45:It's a charming building and the staff pleasant ,welcoming ,helpful. Restaurant food /decor presentation very good and service even though Madam was on her own . Great town center location, hot water 24 hrs.don't know why previous reviewers say not ? lots of hooks/rails shelves for bathroom bits

Review 46:The Hotel was old with dark passage ways as the lights didn't work and the place smelled of an old peoples home . The pillow for each person was about 12" square and 2" thick .Taps didn't shut off properly so drip, drip, drip all night. The 8 euro breakfast was the end of a french stick and croissant , dry cake and jam .

Review 47:Nothing

Review 48:Shower leaked. Ceiling looked like it would cave in. Food appalling had rotten lettuce served. Drowned in sauce, mircrowaved everything, pork did not taste like pork, the fish was unidentified and cldnt translate to english. Went elsewhere for food. Overpriced food. Breakfast was more like a croissant and bread roll with a hot drink which cost 8 euros. Water tasted like bath water. Interior design was very dated and miss matched.

Review 49:Staff were very friendly. Games room with pool table. Room clean and comfy bed and pillows. Good quiet location. Building was beautiful and full of character.

Review 50:noise, poor shower which did not drain, and sink was also partially blocked hugely expensive buffet breakfast which was not actually a buffet as advertised and was low quality. thin walled rooms, disturbed my TV and conversations around us into the night

Review 51:location and old world feel

Review 52:Plumbing was a bit noisy and water took a long time to run hot. Shower door didn't close properly.

Review 53:Staff were friendly and helpful. Simple unfussy accommodation but very traditional - we were sorry not to be able to stay for breakfast as we needed to catch ferry back to Plymouth.

Review 54:Delightful old 17 century building with peaceful & spacious garden. Large rooms with antique furniture. Nice fresh food. Location in the centre of Roscoff near to the church.

Review 55:a little tired, but handy place for travellers arriving Roscoff. needs TLC anyone want to invest for new century?

Review 56:view of the lovely period dining room and grounds

Review 57:Room very shabby and damp patches evident. Corridor smelled very damp and musty. Hasn't been decorated for many years. No tea or coffee. Furniture consisted of two chairs and bedside table ( all mismatched and very tired. Plumbing appallingly noisy with pipes banging every time taps turned, shower used or toilets flushed. Very poor sound insulation so that every footfall and conversation next door or above could be heard. No view at all from room Very disappointing!

Review 58:Position was lovely. Historical building. Breakfast was good if not spectacular. Price reasonable and proprietor friendly. Excellent wi fi in public areas but not in bedroom.

Review 59:No parking and bedroom was only just about adequate. Damp on the walls and condensation on the windows along with being very poorly decorated, in need of a complete refurb.

Review 60:Pleasant staff and nice recpetion and dining room

Review 61:Very pleasant, friendly and accommodating proprietress in a traditional hotel. Good-sized room for three of us, with en-suite in turret of the stone building, and shower/bathroom next door. Ideal location very near centre of Roscoff, but not busy.

Review 62:I stayed on a Sunday and evening meals were not being served generally. Not really a problem because there are numerous restaurants in close proximity.

Review 63:The pleasant and helpful welcome from the lady owner. The hotel is not particularly modern but has a charm of its own and the street outside was very quiet. My room was large, airy and sunny. The location for the pleasant town and coastline of Roscoff couldn't be bettered.

Review 64:Sadly, the building is in need of quite a lot of repair and maintenance. My bed was not at all comfortable (room 23). No curtains but outside shutters, a little difficault to access due to window jambing. Disturbed night by snoring from adjacent room.

Review 65:Proprieters helpful. Large public car park nearby (free). Meals available. Short walk to town centre. Interesting old building and furniture.

Review 66:Lack of refreshment facilities.

Review 67:We only stayed one night so really convenience for the ferry was the priority.

Review 68:Helpful friendly staff. Reliable WiFi. Ideal location for ferry and town centre.

Review 69:Just a little dated, could do with a bit of TLC.
