Reviews for Millstream Hotel and Restaurant

Review 1:The hot temperature in our bedroom we found rather unbearable in spite of turning off the heating appliances & having the window open + turning on the air conditioning. Otherwise it was fine.

Review 2:The unobtrusive attention. Very good food.

Review 3:Restaurant food was overambitious and too rich for us

Review 4:Location within walking distance of Bosham Quay and the bus into Chichester Pleasant, relaxed atmosphere Good breakfast

Review 5:Everything was so comfortable plus the lounge that we really did not need to go out, especially with all the beautiful Christmas decorations. The staff was very attentive but not in your face.

Review 6:I had to leave!

Review 7:In was welcomed by a pleasant young lady who sorted out a snack for me as I arrived after the restaurant had closed. The welcome glass of wine was a pleasant surprise and gratefully received after a long day. The room even had fresh milk provided for tea making and breakfast could not be faulted.

Review 8:We were in room 18. It was very noisy with the generator or water heater. There was a constant background noise. Also the room was very warm even with the window open. The sink and its surround were a bit dated .

Review 9:The staff were very welcoming on arrival and very polite when serving dinner. We both enjoyed our evening meal and breakfast at the hotel. The bed was huge and very comfy.

Review 10:Very nice atmosphere, traditional decor - pleasant lounge, friendly staff. Delicious porridge for breakfast!. Good location for local walks by the harbour..

Review 11:Email mix up for dinner reservation meant we didnt have a table, however this was rectified very quickly with much appreciation as we had been travelling and working all day. The dinner was amazing, the staff very friendly and bed extremeley comfortable. would visit again.

Review 12:A little pricey, but you certainly get what you pay for.

Review 13:Lovely friendly, clean hotel in great position with excellent food. Lovely little touches like the biscuits in the room made by the pastry chef, and a complimentary glass of wine on arrival.

Review 14:Very expensive, difficult to check bill as items lumped together. Stuffy atmosphere, not overly friendly.

Review 15:Great location lots of interesting walks, views nearby. Very comfortable and top quality food.

Review 16:We had no bad experiences and loved it all. Sorry, missed out Stunning Gardens front and back.

Review 17:We liked very much the welcoming by the staff at all times. The quality of food, particularly of lunch and dinner. Cleanliness and comfort of the bedroom and bathroom was excellent.

Review 18:Not enough bar staff after 9.30pm.

Review 19:Friendly, helpful staff - food in Brasserie excellent as was the restaurant manager. Befitted from an upgrade to one of the Cottage suites. Great location. Overall a very pleasant experience and would have no doubt in recommending Millstream.

Review 20:There were a couple of mature guests who were very rude to staff whilst speaking very loudly. The hotel can't do anything to stop bad behaviour by guests, and I feel sorry for staff who have to put up with it.

Review 21:My husband and I took my elderly mother for a short break. The hotel was perfect with areas to sit and enjoy a drink or read the paper. Short flat walk to the waterfront was perfect for my mother. Staff very friendly.

Review 22:Having to pay extra for Breakfast

Review 23:Very welcoming and friendly place. Quaint and peaceful. Reception staff excellent. Very British in a traditional way and Walkers Toffees to boot :)

Review 24:Head waiter we felt was overly officious and bordering on rude - We arrived back at the hotel with another couple after visiting Goodwood and sat in the lounge. He asked if we wanted to eat in the hotel, I explained we did not as we had just eaten but we would like to order some drinks - He then asked quite brusquely if we were staying at the hotel which both I and our friends felt was quite rude of him and embarrassing to us and them. The hotel so far as I was aware was/is open to anyone for food or drink. Spoiled an otherwise pleasant stay.

Review 25:Automatic charge for breakfast. This was removed immediately when I pointed out that we had not taken breakfast, but it should not happen this way.

Review 26:Location, quality and ambiance of hotel.

Review 27:For me the mattress was a little too firm.

Review 28:Staff welcoming and very friendly. Food quality excellent. Nicely furnished with welcoming feel. Attractive setting, well looked after gardens in an excellent location within a very short walk to Bosham harbour.

Review 29:Website doesn't really promote brasserie. With hindsight might have chosen it. Restaurant is wonderful, but a la carte, and you pay for it. Full of very mature couples.

Review 30:Wonderful staff. Wonderful location.

Review 31:A minor criticism, the bedroom doors are heavy are not fitted with self closing hence if left to close banged very loudly.... Got woken a few times!!

Review 32:It was a comfortable homely hotel, very welcoming and great value for the money.

Review 33:Decor a little dated and hotel is overpriced for similiar standard hotels especially as breakfast is not included in the room price.

Review 34:Excellent restaurant, comfortable Lounge and cosy bar.a very comfortable stay.

Review 35:The decor in the room was a little dated and the bed whilst comfortable, was only a double. That said, it was spotlessly clean.

Review 36:Great location, friendly and welcoming. The food in the Millstream restaurant was very good indeed and should not be missed. They also have a brasserie should you prefer something less formal

Review 37:Nothing

Review 38:Excellent staff, helpful friendly and there when you needed them. The food was also of an excellent standard both dinner and breakfast - the food alone is worth visiting for!

Review 39:The hotel was expensive for the standard of room, particularly considering the price did not include breakfast. Bed was clearly old and extremely soft. Decor was very old fashioned.

Review 40:Rooms were very clean and a lovely location. The food was good (albeit we had to pay an extra £29 per night for an average breakfast). Staff were very friendly and the bar area was a nice place to relax. Outside areas are very pretty.

Review 41:Our room was lovely, very well equipped, (we had a King size room with a 4 poster bed) everything was clean and well maintained. the staff were all very polite, cheerful and professional. The food in both the restaurant and brasserie was lovely.

Review 42:Car parking was impossible on the Saturday afternoon during a wedding celebration.

Review 43:We were made to feel very welcome. The ambience and general facilities were excellent. We appreciated the lovely garden.

Review 44:Bathroom really too small for comfort. The breakfast rather boring : no freshly squeezed orange etc the toast tasted like cardboard and coffee was poor.

Review 45:Friendliness and care of staff quietness of suite and the area

Review 46:Rooms are a little dated and there was no air conditioning. The bathroom was a good size but the shower lacked power. The views were of the car park.

Review 47:Excellent location in a beautiful village. The grounds are spectacular with a well maintained garden with plenty of seats and a stream running through. Both the restaurant and bistro serve high quality food and the afternoon tea is excellent

Review 48:The only issue I would say is to try and have more staff on duty, as we did have to wait at the bar sometimes, due to it being busy with various functions, this should be scheduled for.

Review 49:Lovely location, food was very good, bed very comfortable, staff friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stay again. We had one minor problem, but this was dealt with very promptly.

Review 50:Not so much a bad experience but worth noting. We had the Tasting Menu, of which the food was very good, however, the portion sizes were too large (clue is in the title "tasting menu"). A great amount of feedback was given to the assistant manager as we completed our meal. We can only hope this was passed on!. The feedback was intended to be constructive and to the benefit of this very charming, up market hotel

Review 51:Great ovation. A great greeting from receptionist. Large room but not a particularly good view (over the rooftop)

Review 52:Lack of air circulating in the rooms even with aircon in the restaurant and fans in the bedroom.

Review 53:The staff are a real bonus at the hotel. But I think they are missing the head waiter who is stuck in Greece.

Review 54:The hotel had excellent service, from the reception through to the restaurant. We enjoyed the main restaurant, where the food was superb (did not try the brasserie), we were impressed at the quality for a small hotel, and i would recommend, our usual restaurant at home has a Michelin star so quality of food and service is really important to us. Our room was clean and pleasant, and we look forward to staying again in the future.

Review 55:At breakfast the poached haddock was not properly cooked and the poached eggs were runny although poached hard was specifically requested.

Review 56:The room was nice. Room service an And witches were excellent.

Review 57:Inadequate heating June, Room GR31 ( Winter ?)

Review 58:Very helpful and friendly Reception staff. High staff standard throughout. Food Excellent

Review 59:The bed was a little firm for us but, then, for the friends who camewith us, the beds were particularly comfortable, which affected oursleep in very different ways.

Review 60:Beautiful situation, the little extras included in the price, the décor, the gardens, the friendly Rwandan waiter .........

Review 61:Had breakfast in bedroom which was a continental breakfast. Very nice but totally overpriced - just under £15 per person

Review 62:Bedroom was great, with view over the garden. Food in brasserie was lovely and offered good value for money.

Review 63:Could not turn off the bathroom radiator. Neither Room safe nor door entry worked properly.

Review 64:Outstandingly helpful and patient staff. Room spotless. Beds so comfortable. Relaxing with tea in the garden to the sound of running water.

Review 65:Think it is rather overpriced for what is offered and bearing in mind that the furnishings, though very well looked after, are rather dated in style now. Thought there were too many instruction plates on the bedroom and ensuite walls! Charging extra for breakfast when, for this type of hotel (3 star) the room rate was at the upper end of reasonable, was pushing it! If breakfast was included the room rate charge would be much fairer for what is offered overall.

Review 66:The bed was very comfortable, enabling a good night's sleep.

Review 67:The bedroom was hot and noisy due to extractor fan from kitchen no view from windows Food was very poor Greatly over priced we were er disappointed

Review 68:We were surprised to find that a hotel in a remote area was unable to provide dinner in either of its restaurants except at very early or late times. This was apparently due to the fact that a large party from outside the hotel had booked the restaurant for a party. Our disappointment was compounded by being told in an unfriendly way that it was in the terms and conditions. Really, a hotel charging around £180 per night for B&B should also be able to put its customers first when it advertises two restaurants. We should have been informed of this before we arrived or, at the very latest, at check-in. Fortunately, we found a local pub that clearly did want our custom.

Review 69:The hotel is in a nice village within walking distance of Chichester Harbour. The hotel is comfortable to stay in and good for exploring the local area. Rooms are of a good standard.

Review 70:As above I arrived late but room service was organised for me and the food and service was excellent. The staff really did make me feel very welcome and relaxed after a long hard day.

Review 71:Pretty much everything. We satyed n a cottage suite that was cosy and next to the mill stream. The whole ambience of the hotel was friendly comfort with elegance. I liked the breakfast black pudding so much hat asked where the hotel bought it from, The response was, as ever, over 100% - they bought a wole stick for me and it arrived in my office yeasterday 10 th APril, carefully packed in ice to preserve it. If that is not service plus I don't know what is.

Review 72:We will definitely be back at The Millstream. The staff were really friendly and accommodating and I thought the offer of a complementary glass of wine on arrival was a lovely touch. The hotel is a 3 minute walk away from the lovely pubs/walks and cafes in Bosham Hoe.

Review 73:I think that the four poster room overlooking the car park without breakfast is overpriced. We have stayed before in much nicer rooms.

Review 74:The staff were very nice especially in the restaurant, and the food and wine were excellent.

Review 75:Friendly staff in reception, Bistro & breakfast. Fabulous rooms - well equipped, thick modern jazzy curtains & other soft furnishings. Will come back again - definitely

Review 76:Mix up with bill as staff didn't pass on messages from Sun to Mon. Room disappointing as asked for special room for Mum's 75th birthday. Expected this to be at front of property as I'd booked this in January!

Review 77:Great location & service & food. Maitre De excellent as ever!

Review 78:Rooms small and too warm throughout even with the air conditioning unit switched on all night.

Review 79:Main restaurant - excellent food but limited choice, particularly fish dishes given that the hotel is so close to the sea. Staff were commendably friendly and helpful, especially at breakfast time.

Review 80:A lovely relaxed atmosphere from start to end. A complimentary glass of wine on arrival. Absolutely gorgeous dinner. Room very lovely and comfy bed.

Review 81:We think the blackbirds were nesting in the thatched roof above our room which left a lot of debris just outside our front door - it was cleared up on a couple of occasions.

Review 82:We loved our garden suite and exploring an area we didn't know. We enjoyed the friendly efficient staff. Dinner was a highlight each day. We enjoyed theatre in Chichester.

Review 83:Bed was a tad too hard for me. Will not complain because we were upgraded to the four poster room at no extra charge.

Review 84:Everything. Polite, friendly staff. Excellent food. Beautiful suroundings. Peace and quiet. Never felt rushed to do anything. Perfect.

Review 85:The staff are all so friendly, nothing was too much trouble, wonderful dining and location. Room was comfortable and clean. We had a fantastic stay.

Review 86:Not great wifi connection.

Review 87:This Hotel is a real gem the food is outstanding and staff very friendly. Room rate fairly expensive but staff and food make up for it.

Review 88:Some renovation work briefly disturbed us but it was minor. All hotels have to get smartened up at some point.

Review 89:The staff were excellent, led by Aris. The lounge was relaxing to be in, whether for reading or having a coffee. There are two dining rooms with good menus and the food was first class. Our room was very good.

Review 90:I was delighted to find a bottle of fresh milk in the minibar, replaced daily. So much nicer than those awful tiny cartons usually provided in hotels.

Review 91:From the moment we walked into the Millstream we were treated as very special guests. Nothing was too much trouble, every request was met with a smile. The location is very quiet and tranquil, which suited us perfectly.

Review 92:A less than helpful attitude from some staff members. As the hotel seems to more interested in catering for a more aged clientele, the room was so hot at night that it was very difficult to sleep. Also, being over the kitchen was a problem. While on our previous visits we have really enjoyed the evening meals, unfortunately, we were not so impressed this time. We were disappointed in our visit as we have so enjoyed our previous times at the hotel.

Review 93:The location and the reasonable proximity to home.

Review 94:The room was exceptionally hot - reached 26 centigrade. There was an airconditioning unit but this was too loud to have on at night and the temperature rocketed when it was turned off. The room was above the kitchens and there was a very loud noise in the evenings - a deep loud hum.

Review 95:The location, the toiletries, the food, the fridge, the bed, the staff, the complimentary newspapers, the wifi included and the lounge facilities.

Review 96:The bathroom needs updating but I understand re-furbishment is on it's way. As far as I could see there was no secondary lighting in the bathroom which meant you had to floodlight the bedroom in the middle of the night when opening the door. A very small point but the bar staff should learn which glasses certain drinks are served in!

Review 97:The bedroom was large and well appointed, we were able to park very close to access to our room and our meal in the restaurant on Saturday evening was superb.

Review 98:Normally rooms are B and B but it was not clear enough that breakfast was not included. We didn't have breakfast but it was included on our bill as it was assumed by the hotel that we would have it. I explained to the reception that we didn't have breakfast and it was removed from the bill without any trouble.

Review 99:The food was exceptionally good.

Review 100:Room 1 above reception was very noisy particularly early in the morning with the deliveries. The Brasserie menu was somewhat bizarre with limited choices.

Review 101:The location just outside of Portsmouth was ideal and in such a peaceful village with sufficient parking. Staff were friendly and efficient and the restaurant meal was superb

Review 102:Noise insulation For convenience - mobility issues - we appreciatively accepted room 34 which is located by rear door. As a result we suffered disturbance from guests and staff passing the room. Furthermore, all movement in room above was very evident. But none of these issues detracted from the excellence of this hotel!

Review 103:A very uptogether property Friendly attentive staff Good food Well managed

Review 104:Rooms too hot!

Review 105:We were a large party staying 2 nights. Our menus were sorted before hand and all choices were ready at the same time. Very helpful staff with local knowledge.

Review 106:The bedroom was very hot, which may suit some of the very elderly clientele but was far too warm for us. Opening the window allowed cooking smells into the bedroom. Not ideal.

Review 107:A very well maintained hotel.

Review 108:Excellent location for picturesque Bosham and Chichester harbour. Staff were very friendly at both dinner and breakfast. Although I booked a single room, I got a large double with kingsize bed. Large car park. Good food. Freshly cooked breakfast was particularly appreciated.

Review 109:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 110:After a busy few days I wanted a comfortable relaxing night. I arrived a few minutes before the restaurant was due to stop serving on a Sunday evening, but was given a table without hesitation and the food was excellent - not low priced, but very good value for money. I was upgraded from a single to a double room at no charge and found it comfortable and relaxing. Breakfast was every bit as good as dinner. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. I recommend this hotel without hesitation, and its quiet location in the village, just a couple of hundred yards from the quay, was an added bonus for me.

Review 111:Room was very warm and a bit dated, but perfectly clean; price was on the high side, although it was a premium weekend.

Review 112:Staff were excellent, décor in the restaurant, Brassiere and bar was modern and fresh, food was also very good.

Review 113:One of the worst beds I have slept on, and when we mentioned it, the staff person shrugged, and said some people like soft beds. In fact, it was a very poor quality mattress. The place is over priced at £200 per night, without breakfast. We did not have it, as it would have been £17.50 per person. The next night we stayed somewhere else, and of far better value and comfort.

Review 114:The location is good.

Review 115:The room was overheated. The alarm clock provided had a bright and disturbing light and came with an instruction not to turn off!

Review 116:We liked the food, the attentive staff, and the public rooms. The "private garden" to the side is a particular delight. The manager and his family were always on hand to ensure that we laked for nothing.

Review 117:The rooms were a little hot. I've always hated carpeted bathrooms. The room we had was top of the main stairs so heard staff & residence. The room has a lot of good points. However if you go walking along the river becareful as it is a little trecherous underfoot. I will remember this stay for ever as ended up in Chichester hospital for 3 nights & now have lots of metal work in my leg!

Review 118:Being off the beaten track is a benefit. The bar had a nice atmosphere & the garden was pretty with good tables. Breakfast was okay. Small but not greasy.

Review 119:This hotel is in such a pretty spot in a delightful village. The room and the staff were lovely. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was delicious. Thanks

Review 120:Our room was number 16 and because the room was warm we had to sleep with the window open. Unfortunately there was so much noise from the generator (?) below that we had two very bad night's sleep. A shame, because we have stayed before and always loved it

Review 121:Lovely room, excellent dining, friendly staff, great location.

Review 122:Honestly...there nothing we didn't like! highly recommend this hotel!

Review 123:We loved everything about this hotel! everything from the complimentary glass of wine on arrival to the wonderful, professional and very high level of customer service! The staff all seem very happy and give you a sense of real comfort. The food is incredible, the grounds are stunning, the facilities are easily some of the best in the area! And for the price...this is most definitely worth every penny and more!

Review 124:Nightly charge for double room of £150 at Three Star property should include breakfast [not extra £14.50 pp]. Food and wine somewhat overpriced.

Review 125:Ambience. Staff very efficient and friendly. Restaurant staff excellent.

Review 126:Would have liked a greater choice of food on the menu Not all rooms have air conditioning

Review 127:Hotel room was excellent and the grounds are well laid out. Staff were good and breakfast was good value for money

Review 128:The room was very ordinary for the price. Our room was off a very cramped corridor with poor sound proofing between the walls. Everything was extra including the breakfast. The food was very pleasant but there was not enough of it. Pretentious rather than satisfying.

Review 129:The live piano music at dinner.

Review 130:Lack of air conditioning in room which became intolerably hot. Not a very comprehensive menu. Portions too small. Charge for after dinner coffee.

Review 131:Decor, cleanliness, courteous staff, Breakfast in room, disable parking, Free WFI

Review 132:The small carpeted bathroom and very dated colour scheme of our room. It needed to be much lighter and to have a more contemporary feel. The lack of air conditioning as it was a very hot weekend. The awful clumsy and badly made cucumber 'sandwiches' which were anything but traditional for an English Afternoon Tea! The inability to serve a Campari Soda correctly!

Review 133:The attractive gardens and lovely old building. The pleasant and helpful staff. The food, location and proximity to other places of interest. The traditional dining room and also the more relaxed brasserie alternative. The reserved parking spaces for resident guests.

The Fine Print
