Reviews for River Cottage Boutique B&B

Review 1:Third visit, very comfortable, super position close to Chatsworth House, Bakewell and Ashford pubs/food in walking distance. Can't wait to go again as John & Gilly are great hosts and serve up delicious home made/ locally produced breakfasts.

Review 2:We found it difficult to find using the sat nav but were directed carefully by Gilly when we were lost nearby.

Review 3:John and Gilly were wonderful hosts with a great knowledge of the area, able to give advice on places to go and how to explore. We had no problem with sounds from the road thanks to the triple glazing. The room was comfortable and beautifully done to match the look of the building. We had a separate bathroom. This wasn't an issue for us as it was all very private. Breakfast was freshly cooked and made to our tastes, with homemade jams and bread to keep us going whilst we waited. We would recommended.

Review 4:The only thing we found was in our bedroom wall lights were not as nice for reading as table lamps would be. Also we prefer duvets to blankets but that is a minor niggle compared to the overall experience.

Review 5:Friendly hosts, John and Gilly are prepared to provide anything you wish. Maps and binoculars are there for borrowing, as well as a wide selection of books. Lovely breakfasts, served beautifully with homemade preserves. Sparkling clean everywhere. How the shower room was kept in that mint condition, I do not know! Fresh towels each day and plenty of nice toiletries provided. Pretty setting by the river, where guests can enjoy a drink in the garden watching the river trout. Good parking. Real pubs with good food nearby. Close to Bakewell and just right for visiting the Peak District.

Review 6:John and Gilly were very helpful in advising places to visit and the good local pubs for dinner. It was also a bonus that the two village pubs were within easy walking distance from River Cottage

Review 7:Nothing really, the only thing if anything is we found the bedding, blankets and sheets not the cosiest and effected our sleep a little. Saying that, we do love traditional things, it is probably we have just got used to duvets.

Review 8:Hosts delightful and explain everything beautifully and are on hand to do anything to help. Breakfast excellent, delicious all round, homemade bread and jams lovely. Room and bathroom absolutely lovely, excellent attention to detail. Pretty view of garden from window. Would certainly return and recommend.

Review 9:Regret not having found River Cottage when we previously visited the area.

Review 10:Location was Ideal for us. Both the village and River Cottage were a real treat. Room and facilities were first rate. Cannot say other than, having been several times to the area, it was the best of all the places we have stayed; by miles. Hosts; charming.

Review 11:We just missed our king sized bed.

Review 12:Beautiful location and decor, furnishings and linen were top quality. Friendly hosts who went the extra mile and recommended some great local eating places. Excellent breakfasts.

Review 13:Absolutely perfect. Would definitely stay again. We had the room with separate private bathroom across the hall, it was perfect because the bathroom is huge and has a bath and shower and we could lock it from outside and inside to keep it private. The B&B itself is immaculate, the staff we amazingly friendly and could not do more to help but were in no way intrusive. The breakfast was delicious and fresh with various hot and cold options. The gardens were stunning, my favourite memory is sitting inches from the crystal clear river drinking champagne in the sun watching big fat trout swimming around doing backflips...perfect!

Review 14:My husband was feeling tired after the wedding we went to. When I asked if I could take breakfast to the room for him, they wouldn't allow it due to the cost of the bed linen. My husband would have eaten it sat at the table and felt it was slightly unreasonable after we paid £115 for an overnight stay

Review 15:Location, room and friendly staff

Review 16:John and Gilly were excellent hosts and could not do more to make our stay a memorable one. They have a thorough local knowledge so can recommend those places to visit as well as those to be avoided!

Review 17:Everything was just perfect. We were going to stay in Bakewell but the serenity and beauty of Ashford in the Water was fab and so close to Bakewell. The place is beautiful with no expense spared and the location is stunning.

Review 18:We found the bed rather small. We prefer a duvet to blankets.

Review 19:Lovely home & location. Warm & comfortable. Very good breakfast. Picturesque village

Review 20:John and Gilly's hospitality was unbeatable. They couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. We also loved the character and charm if the old building, the delicious breakfast and stunning river view!

Review 21:We were looked after by the most loveliest hosts, who were very knowledgeable of the local area and couldn't do enough to enhance our experience of the peak district. The Cottage itself was very comfortable, great attention to detail and the breakfast was yummy!

Review 22:Nothing.

Review 23:Gilly & John were excellent hosts & gave good information about places to visit. The breakfast was superb, room facilities excellent and the whole place was immaculate & beautifully decorated. We loved the location, near to Chatsworth & short walk to local pubs for great food. The garden was lovely and having an evening drink by the river was special. We can't wait to go back, this place is a gem!

Review 24:Slightly dodgy wi-fi, but that was a down to the property's location. Slightly difficult to find, because it is not where satnav takes you. Make sure you follow the owners' directions.

Review 25:Lovely setting, excellent accommodation, lovely breakfasts and charming hosts.

Review 26:Nothing

Review 27:We were made to feel so welcome by our hosts. The room was lovely and so clean. Breakfast was really good with everyone chatting to each other. Will definitely go back

Review 31:Wonderful hosts, came out to greet us on arrival & the service remained as good throughout our stay. Beautiful old 18th century cottage with a original features, great rooms & a luxury bathroom. Although close to Bakewell, it's in its own picturesque village.Fantastic breakfast & stunning garden.

Review 32:The location was ideal. The rooms are all attractive, furnished to a very high standard, comfortable, very clean and lots of attention has been paid to the small details. Breakfast is excellent. The hosts were very friendly and made us most welcome. We definitely will return.

Review 33:The character of River Cottage, the river and gardens. It was close to the village but not part of it. Excellent breakfast, both in choice and quality.

Review 34:There was not anything that we didn't like with River Cottage. We were advised beforehand that we may hear road noise from the room. However, we did not really notice it and it certainly did not trouble our sleep.

Review 35:Virtually everything. The welcome, the lovely large room with all the comforts that you would need, the marvelous breakfast, the location, the garden....I could go on. My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Review 36:This is an excellent home base for a Peak District visit. The grounds are beautiful, the inn is immaculate, and the owners are friendly and helpful. From the in-room refreshments to the bathroom amenities to the homemade jellies on the breakfast table, attention was paid to every detail.

Review 37:Didn't like having to leave! And while it's actually very easy to get there once you know how, ask for more details before making the drive.

Review 38:Super location twixt Buxton, Bakewell & Chatsworth House, hosts are delightful and caring, the garden is superb, dozens of trout are in the stream (bring a book, camera, wine & cheese to enjoy that outdoor nook). River Cottage is a memorable retreat, with village walks and Rm 4 is large, comfortable and airy, with views of the garden. Oh, and they serve great breakfasts.

Review 39:The stay wasn't long enough nothing bad to say

Review 40:Treated parents to a break for 50th wedding anniversary they were thrilled with the break. Fantastic setting clean relaxing accommodation and great hosts they didn't want to leave and want to go back for longer

Review 41:We had a "Quiet" bedroom, not on the A6, but it was a warm night and with the bedroom windows open the traffic noise was very evident.

Review 42:Friendly and helpful couple. Very professionally run B&B.

Review 43:Absolutely faultless and wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 44:This wonderful B&B is the best one that we have ever stayed at and includes many more items that are not standard at other B&B's - bath robes, shaving cream, hairspray, nail file etc. Our hosts were wonderful and the amenities were 5 star and then some. We really enjoyed the wonderful cooked breakfasts and these kept us going all day long. The B&B's location wonderful near a flowing river and the gardens are post card perfect. It is the perfect location for exploring Derbyshire and we would have loved to have stayed longer. It had the most comfortable bed that I have ever been in and they think of all the small things that make the stay perfect!
