Reviews for Hotel Le Cosy

Review 1:There appeared to be very few guests, but we were on the second floor - lots of stairs and no lift. Nowhere to get a cup of coffee when once the bar was closed at about 9pm, nor in the morning.

Review 2:The room was clean and comfortable. Very convenient for the ferry port.

Review 3:Sadly on both recent visits, the reception hall and stairs smelt strongly of cigarette smoke, which was really off-putting. The bedrooms didn't, luckily. Bathrooms could do with a facelift.

Review 4:Very friendly receptionist who had waited for us to arrive (slightly late) before closing. Very comfortable beds.

Review 5:Wifi was terrible in the rooms. Make sure you check in during the times posted. Safe box didn't work so I had to borrow a French mans phone to call the emergency phone number. My family was stuck outside 45 minutes. We almost slept in the car.

Review 6:Free Parking and an amazing Bakery across the street for breakfast.

Review 7:clean and basic room, some parts a little dated but cant complain for the price

Review 8:just stayed one night after arriving by ferry, about 2mins drive from ferry port and very easy to find, right in the middle of lots of shops, restaurants and cafes. very friendly staff.

Review 9:Could do with a little earlier on the check in.

Review 10:Convenient for the town, for the ferry and the Normandy landing beaches as well as the many museums, memorials and cemeteries. The staff were friendly and helpful, the town quiet and relaxing for a few days. The rooms were simple and offer clean budget accommodation. The breakfast was typical continental style and the bar, simple with prices on a par with the others in the town.

Review 11:NOT A BAD EXPERIANCE But no night staff reception closed 7 pm opened 8.30. to late for contact before leaving for the 8.30 ferry.front door had a will of its own it was the quick or the locked out.' would have liked coffee facilities in the room

Review 12:warm and comfortable, bath with lots of hot water ..fluffy bath towels not the usual postage stamps. breakfast good fresh bread friendly service Very good restrant across the road at sensible prices good phone contact wityh night staff

Review 13:No lift. Stair carpet grubby. Loo pedestal cracked and dirty. Bathroom in serious need of refurbishment. Neither of the bedside table lamps worked.

Review 14:Bed was clean and comfortable. Towels were soft. Welcome was good and young lady was helpful.

Review 15:No staff on arrival,no email notification until we arrived home pf door number had to ask a passer by to speak to the person on the phone tp obtain entry number. No one to check you out.

Review 16:Clean.

Review 17:Arrived late for an overnight stop before catching early morning ferry. Entrance code and access to room, after reception closure, was easy and straightforward - much to our delight after an eight hour drive. Room clean enough for an old building and bed comfortable. Very quiet considering hotel located on corner with bars and shops. Didn't have breakfast - breakfasting on the boat instead. Would stay again in same circumstances. Helpful and polite young lady dealt with our arrangements. Good value.

Review 18:No tea/coffee facilities in the room. No reception after 9,00pm. Soft mattress.

Review 19:Proximity to ferry terminal and main street where there were bars shops & restaurants with the 'street cafe' atmosphere

Review 20:A clean, comfortable hotel in an ideal town centre location equidistant between ferry terminal and seafront, perfect for us as a group of 6 cyclists. Comfortable beds, with all rooms having baths with ample hot water. The receptionist was cheerful, efficient and helpful, kindly allowing us to store our six bikes overnight in safety in the hotel lobby. We enjoyed a superb evening meal at the excellent restaurant immediately opposite the hotel. It may only be a 2* hotel but we couldn't have wished for a more convenient or pleasant place for our overnight stay.

Review 21:Loo that would not flush. Only one poor quality pillow per person. Reception open for very limited hours. TV far too small and mounted too high.

Review 22:Staff and location and car parking

Review 23:Despite arriving at the appointed time, the hotel was closed. We waited around with a few others for the receptionist, (who was smiley and pleasant), to arrive and open up to let us all in. Just as well it wasn't raining. The public areas were really quite grubby and the room pretty basic, but the bed was reasonably comfortable.

Review 24:Plum in the centre of town, which is great so long as you don't mind noise from the street outside. No walk at all to bars and restaurants, which are right outside.

Review 25:Noise from adjoining room(s) easily heard, which makes necessary the use of sleeping earplugs when trying to sleep....most necessary for light sleepers.

Review 26:Proximity to Caen Port and historic WWII beach landings.

Review 27:Bathroom getting a little tired but a good hot shower over the bath.

Review 28:Excellent location for the ferry. Lively local bars and great food and service opposite at Le Menhir. A comfortable double room overlooking the street. Staff were very helpful & we were able to secure our bikes in the hotel. Would not hesitate to use again.

Review 29:A bit tired and could do with an overhaul but its not expensive and for one night fine

Review 30:Location a bit tricky to find but as we know the area it was ok for us.

Review 31:the lack of a lift could be a problem for some clients on higher floors.

Review 32:good value, clean and convenient. Just right for an overnight stop. friendly, helpful staff. off road parking.

Review 33:Everything - very comfortable with two separate en-suite bedrooms. Brilliant location overlooking beach. Super blowout breakfast - local produce. Owner was really welcoming and helpful.

Review 34:Maintenance poor. Shower holder broken, had to hold by hand. Buttons on basin plug lifter and shower/bath switch missing so only a narrow threaded piece of metal to grip and pull.

Review 35:Located 3 mins from ferry terminal on street of restaurants but was quiet at night. Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 36:Everything was Fantastic!!!

Review 37:The hotel was in a Great Location with restaurants and shops and Casino. We were pleasantly surprised. We would definitely come and stay again.

Review 38:No breakfast till 8. We had to leave at 7.30, so went hungry.

Review 39:Very friendly staff Right on the busy street, lots of bars and restaurants there. Very lively area

Review 40:It's a bit tired but it's a budget hotel so we knew what to expect. The staff and cleanliness however outway the few cosmetic jobs needed.

Review 41:We chose this hotel because of it's location and distance from the ferry terminal as we were visiting our French family in Ouistreham. Location right in the middle of this pretty town within walking distance of the beach, cafés and shops. Fabulous bakery on the corner too!

Review 42:Shower broken. Bed very old and dip in the middle. Very hot at night but if we opened the window it was very noisy all night. Bar at hotel and all staff gone by 8pm.

Review 43:Location is excellent. Very large room with balcony. The lady on reception was very warm and friendly.

Review 44:Beds were uncomfortable, wifi didn't work, smelt of cigarette smoke despite being non smoking. Rooms clean but tired and bathrooms very dated

Review 45:Locations was perfect for a pre or post ferry night

Review 46:Not enough car parking spaces so we had to park further down the road. No lift and we were based on the third floor with a small child.

Review 47:The hotel was 5 minutes from the ferry port and next to all the restaurants. Facilities were okay it wasn't noisy in the evening.

Review 48:the hotel was rather worn and tatty. Although we were supposed to have a balcony, we didn't. The toilet was at a strange angle and cracked because the floors were collapsing.

Review 49:Central location.

Review 50:There was a lingering smell in the room that smelt like fried oily food. We did not sleep well because there was music and noise just down the street that lasted till after midnight.

Review 51:Very friendly staff Central location (though a bit far from the ferry pier)

Review 52:Wifi not great but they re-booted it when asked to and it worked. Breakfast was very basic and not worth €9.

Review 53:Centrally located and right in the middle of town close to restaurants and shops. Very dog friendly even though they charge extra. Small car park which was full when we arrived however there are no parking restrictions on the road so we could park close by.

Review 54:Lovely and close to the port of Caen. We had a bath in our bathroom which was ideal when feeling cold from the ferry. The hotel is on a main street with lots of bars and restaurants.

Review 55:Quite basic room with all that is needed apart from kettle. Tiny car park - car too long to park on angle, but easy to park on adjacent street

Review 56:Good location in pedestrainised town centre for shops and restaurants, and beach. Patio doors opened out to main street when closed kept most of any evening noise out

Review 57:Limited parking at hotel, but street parking nearby was not too difficult.

Review 58:The young manageress went out of her way to be helpfull and communicated well in English. Plenty of places within walking distance to eat. Ferry location only 5 minutes from hotel and close proximity to D-Day museums.

Review 59:The car park is very small, but we did get a place, so no complaints. Only one chair in the room. No lift.

Review 60:Corner room with 2 balconies. Great for people watching. Close to beach and restaurants. Interesting street market in the evening. Ferry only 5 minutes away.

Review 61:Due to the location, Saturday night was quite noisy outside due to being situated in the centre of town, however, this was expected. Also, the doors in the hotel were very noisy when shutting them which was quite disturbing when trying to sleep at night.

Review 62:The staff were really friendly and tried very hard to speak good english. The food was lovely with generous amounts to help yourselves to. The location was very central and the rooms were simple but just what you need for a couple of nights. Overall, we had a pleasant stay.

Review 63:Although the room was clean the hotel is shabby and requires a lot of modernisation. I have stayed in 2 star hotels in France before and they were fine but Le Cosy comes bottom of the league. It may be in the centre of Oustreham but we were kept awake until 2 o'clock in the morning with loud music and shouting. Definitely a place to avoid if you are catching an early ferry the next day!

Review 64:Nothing.

Review 65:Bed bugs. Hideous! Will never go back. Swarming with bed bugs. Had to change room to a room with no toilet seat. Awful start to holiday.

Review 66:Location good.

Review 67:Very poor pillows. Narrow staircase when carrying luggage. Cannot access front of hotel easily due to on pavement table/bar facilities.

Review 68:Nearness to port. Clean accomodation.

Review 69:A party of French arrived at midnight and started to move furniture in the room above. At 1 am they then left, returning at 4.30 to repeat the procedure. There is no night staff to deal with this.

Review 70:Convenient for town and ferry

Review 71:The list is far too long to itemise suffice to say it was dated, no toiletries supplied, sink plug broken, didn't fit, poor storage, 60's wallpaper still on walls in make shift wardrobe. No service after 20.00, even in bar, access back into 'hotel' by own key even local cafes/restaurants limited, Had better standard of accommodation, facilities and food provisions in Spanish hostels at half the price. Taking too much advantage of the location being a ferry port in their pricing structure and not enough on premises and clientele

Review 72:Convenient for Brittany Ferries -Can to Portsmouth

Review 73:None

Review 74:Location great .Staff very friendly. Small car park but lots of free parking nearby . On door step for Bars. Restaurants and long sand beaches .(Thank you for the birthday cake x )

Review 75:The hotel has no lifts and we were on the 3rd floor. Check the local area before deciding where to eat.

Review 76:The hotel was very close to the ferry port for our early morning start. The young lady on reception was very helpful when we needed to change one of our rooms before we arrived . We were fortunate enough to park at the rear of the hotel; parking is very limited and the only alternative is on street parking in a restricted and very busy area

Review 77:Emergency contact telephone numbers were not in use. Waited outside hotel for an hour to get in as no staff on duty. Eventually managed to get in by following other guests through front door. Had to find bedrooms which were unlocked and just had to presume they were the ones we booked. Having previously notified hotel of our time of arrival were somewhat shocked to find it all closed up with no staff at all. Did not sleep well as we were worried that we might be in the wrong rooms. In morning when 1 member of staff arrived, who was very pleasant she informed us that she had sent a text message to say what the entry code was to the front door. Not very helpful when travelling and no phone signal available. Contacted booking.com to ask for help to get in to hotel, waited on phone for over half an hour only to be told they also could not contact anyone by phone.

Review 78:Nothing

Review 79:Great location for overnight stop before catching early ferry. Clemence on reception very charming and helpful. Rooms small but adequate and very clean.

Review 80:Breakfast could've been better. Very basic. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

Review 81:Very close to ferry port. Easy to find. Clear instructions for entry as we arrived late.

Review 82:The French way of life. Not much going on in the daytime.

Review 83:A stone's throw from the beach. Plenty of restaurants, two of which we ate at and had the most lovely food in. D-Day museums all worth visiting.

Review 84:The heating wasn't working in the room,as we arrived late there was no one available to sort out.We reported it the next morning as we were leaving .

Review 85:Convenience and location. Room very clean ,had recently been recently redecorated. The en suite was dated but clean.I don't think I would spend a week here.

Review 86:The hotel is easy to find and centrally located in the pedestrian area of Ouistreham, ideal for eating out, and not far from the beach. The car park is behind the hotel and we had no trouble parking. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom spacious, and the staff friendly. We had a good and quiet nights sleep, so can recommend highly.

Review 87:Would of liked a kettle in my room and was hard to get on the Internet.

Review 88:The location was perfect shops right on your doorstep and seafront just a stone throw away. Staff very polite when around and locals very nice people I cant wait to return asap as I fell in love with the place.Very quiet if ur looking for that sort of thing great if you want escape children I seen none in the 2 nights I stayed not anywhere even in the day to be honest lol It was great ..probably different in warmer weather though I did go in October.

Review 89:Short staffing hours - need to pay previous afternoon/early evening if taking early ferry.

Review 90:Position, staff, sunny balcony for watching street life.

Review 91:We usually sleep on the overnight ferry, this time the cabins were fully booked, so we sailed on the afternoon crossing and stayed at Le Cosy in Ouistram instead. We will always do this in future, not only was the crossing cheaper but the Hotel was a real welcome to France, situated on the town crossroads, next door to plenty of restaurants and bars and close to the sea. As we were arriving late the hotel texted the door codes and we let ourselves in. Lovely corner room and a decent breakfast.

Review 92:On site parking is limited however there is unrestricted on street parking around the hotel. No restaurant in the hotel unfortunately. Breakfast available though.

Review 93:The location on a pedestrian precinct with several restaurants adjacent to the hotel. The hotel management were helpful.

Review 94:Not many car park spaces although we got in.

Review 95:The location was very good being close to the ferry terminal and Clemence was good enough to wait for us. The hotel was clean and comfortable and Clemence was doing an excellent job of running this hotel. She was friendly and very helpful.

Review 96:Limited parking spaces. Difficult to manoeuvre. No lift making it difficult to carry heavy suitcases to the second floor where our room was.

Review 97:Excellent situation near the Ferry port. Proximity of a choice of restaurants to go for an evening meal. Clean and comfortable.

Review 98:Difficult to find, as the hotel name has been changed by the new owners to Hotel cosy, when it was Hotel Le Chalet. We got lost getting there, and no one knew where the hotel cosy was. Round the back seemed a bit scruffy, and I was put off by what seemed to be a busy street, though the hotel turned out to be fronting onto a lovely pedestrian precinct full of flowers, with no traffic. The room has been made over, and is bright and light and warm. The bathroom clearly is still lagging a bit behind, and the shower needs to be seriously updated, and the bathroom repainted. Nevertheless, we had a really peaceful comfortable night, or much impressed despite my initial worries.

Review 99:On a corner what appears to be a busy street, first appearances are deceptive. This logis was taken over in April by a young couple who are full of enthusiasm and great hosts. She was charming, and despite my asking for extra blankets – not needed in the end as a room was perfectly warm – and extra pillows as my husband needs three, they could not have been more helpful, welcoming and kind. The room is very clean and bright and clearly has benefited from a makeover. Lovely long windows and a traditional little iron balcony, looking out over what turns out to be a pedestrian precinct, full of flowers and chic shops, where traffic is not a problem and there are lovely restaurants. This little hotel doesn't really sell itself as much as it should, but I guess this dynamic young couple will change things around.Bags of traditional French character in this hotel. Value for money.

Review 100:Shouting and screeming at nigth from nearby bar. Loudly noise from doors in hotel when closed. Reception not open for payment at departure 9 am.Wi-fi very clumsy designed and almost non working.

Review 101:If interessed in a noisy bar close to the hotel with no options to get another room it's a fine place to stay. Staff friendly and english speeking.

Review 102:Room was a little bit on the small side but not too much of an inconvenience to be truthfull

Review 103:Clean , tidy and convenient. Young lady at reception was very pleasent.

Review 104:No tea or coffee available before catching an early ferry. Bar closed early

Review 105:Receptionist exceptionally helpful and happy to supply an extra Z bed at our request as we were 3 women in one room.

Review 106:feeble shower over bath and its curtain. breakfast from 8.00am in a ferry port with regular sailings at 8.30 so not much of a service to clients there ...not even a kettle to make a hot drink ourselves ...so a long way from best value we met in France

Review 107:location restaurant on same side of Avenue going towards beach. friendly receptionist

Review 108:no lift, rooms located on 3rd floor. check in limited. no staff on premises outside check in times. poor facilities for guests re comfort

Review 109:centrally located. clean rooms

Review 110:We stayed last year too, but this year the new owners have improved the hotel substantially. In an excellent location for town, beach and ferry. Staff are friendly and accommodation is comfortable. Ideal for a short stay.

Review 111:badly signed car park wifi kept dropping out Hostel style room with 4 beds in it very noisy location especially if you have children.

Review 112:central location friendly staff very clean room

Review 113:Noisy family with children making lots of noise late at night on corridor outside our room when we needed to get up for early ferry.

Review 114:Proximity to ferry. Nice, clean beds and bathrooms-recent refurbishment. Room had nice view over Ouistreham and hotel had character.

Review 115:We have stayed here at least 10 times as it's an excellent stayover for catching the early morning ferry. Although the ownership has changed during this time, the atmosphere and helpful, friendly staff have remained have remained a high priority of this hotel. The location is excellent for beach, restaurants, shops and of course ferry. We will probably be returning again later this year. A great, little hotel.

Review 116:Wifi didn't work. Breakfast was not available when we were there - although there is a bar-cafe a short walk away on the same street (turn left out of the front door, walk for a minute or so, and it is on the right) offering a decent breakfast for less money.

Review 117:Room was a decent size and had a big window opening onto the street (but which also effectively shut out noise). Staff were friendly and helpful. Some parking available, although confusingly it is under what was presumably Hotel Le Cosy's previous name, Hotel Chalet. Parking on the street to the side (street in front is pedestrianized) is not a problem in any case. Good restaurant across the street, and several others close by. Very handy for the port and for the D-Day landing beaches (Sword beach is a 5 minute walk). Not far from Caen and Bayeux.

Review 118:Hotel renamed from The Chalet but no note and road side has the old nameso difficult to find. Wifi didn't work in room despite complaints toreceptionist. No lifts so 40 narrow stairs to climb with luggage &no help (we're seniors). Bedroom facilities very basic with nobedside table on one side & no table or computer place. No air-conditioning so window open to traffic noise until very late. Expensivefor the general facilities I.E. 80.00 euros.

Review 119:Location for ferry terminal.

Review 120:My only issue was that the fire door closers were a bit fierce resulting in quite a lot of door banging.

Review 121:The room was nice and clean and the ensuite functional. The greeting by the receptionist was very friendly. The location was ideal for catching the car ferry next morning and there was a pastry shop opposit - handy for a snack on the way home.

Review 122:It was the end of July and the whole street was given over to a sort of party, and was closed off to traffic. Even walking to the hotel was difficult. We could have ridden the bikes to the parking place at the back of the hotel, but we didn't know that. Nor was sleep easy because of the party. Even so, good place, and good fun.

Review 123:Very close to the ferry. Parking at the back of the hotel. Nice people. OK room.

Review 124:No wi-fi above second floor. English channels listed, but not available when selected. Reception not open until 8.00, even though morning ferry demands passengers be at terminal by 7.45. Had to leave without paying. Later contacted hotel by email to offer payment, but no helpful suggestions received.

Review 125:Friendly staff. Good location.

Review 126:Hard to access Wifi/internet. A lot questions to be answered.

Review 127:Nice location, easy to reach by car. In the middle of the town and close to the beach. Rooms are clean and personal are friendly

Review 128:The free wifi was non existent. It was noisy as we were directly overlooking the Main Street but it didn't spoil our experience, but it is something to consider. We felt for the price of the room a breakfast offering could of been included.

Review 129:Very easy to find from Caen ferry port, turn right out of the gate and a left onto Bd. Dr Charles Poullain and although you feel like you're on a housing estate keep walking in a straight direction and you will come to Le Cosy on your right. The room we had was a top floor double with two large windows which opened up. The room was tastefully decorated enfact it felt newly decorated. We had a large bathroom with bath and shower. The location is excellent with a few restaurants and bars on your door steps we did not have breakfast so cannot rate that, however it was set out in the small bar. Staff were very friendly and Clemence was especially friendly and helpful both before we travelled and whilst there. We especially enjoyed the location as it was ideal for exploring ouisterham, caen, sword beach and beyond. Every Wednesday in the summer there is a night market directly outside the hotel, which attracts ALOT of people and had a good atmosphere. This is on until midnight. Ouistreham is sleepy but a nice chilled out break was enjoyed.

Review 130:I couldn't get wifi as I forgot to ask for the code. No big problem - we used to manage pre mobiles etc. so just accept that's what happens occasionally.

Review 131:Excellent location, lots of eating places nearby to suit all budgets. Street market was lovely atmosphere and there was ice cream places doing a roaring trade. The lass spoke fluent English and was a charming meet and greet person.

Review 132:Reception closing at 7pm.

Review 133:Quiet room. Excellent breakfast. Close to good shops and restaurants. Convenient for ferry port.

Review 134:Good value

Review 135:There were no snacks or eats available.

Review 136:Location- centre of town. Ease of parking. Comfortable room

Review 137:The decoration is a little tired.

Review 138:Great Location for the Caen ferry port and the bars and restaurants of Ouistreham

Review 139:Very thin walls

Review 140:close to the ferry port good service, i arrived late and they provided a means to get in
