Reviews for Domaine de la Vallée d'Ax
Review 1:The hot water had been turned off and took a couple of hours to heat up. This should have been checked before our arrival.
Review 2:Good location, easy to find and park, very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 3:Great place for us travelling with a dog. The studio was clean and comfortable, and although not in the centre of Ax, was just a ten-minute walk to town for dinner. On the other hand, we couldn't get hold of a taxi using the numbers provided, so if you really can't walk that far and don't have transport, this may not be the place for you.
Review 4:Very badly signed - we had difficulties finding the place. Not clearly stated as NOT a hotel - no bed linen, no towels. Problem with late arrival - we hardly made it by 7, when reception was closing.
Review 5:Friendly lady at reception.
Review 6:No bed - just a pull out couch. No bed linen or towels. This was not obvious when booking the room online. The breakfast is overpriced and not good quality.
Review 7:Not much.
Review 8:Had to pay extra for bedding and towels. Very basic self catering facilities. No tea towels of electric kettle. On very steep slope --could be a problem in winter.10 min walk from town down rough path but much further on road.
Review 9:Needed an hotel in Ax and this was the only place available
Review 10:I paid 8e for sheets and a towel! Ridiculous. Also, in the room, there were plates etc (its a self catering apartment) but no sponge, washing liquid or tea towel to dry anything used...so I would question the cleanness of the plates etc if most people domt have the material to wash them properly
Review 11:Location was good (for a conference in the town)
Review 12:Rude front office staff, dismissive and unhelpful when checking in. Room was filthy, shower was broken.
Review 13:Room facilities were good if you needed to self cater.
Review 14:Nothing bad to report.
Review 15:This chalet was lovely to stay in. It was much larger that other chalets we had stayed in. For instance it had a larger fridge than most places. The whole site was much better maintained than others. The site was cared for and was great for our family. The pool in the summer was great for our kids. It was only a short stroll down a wooded path to town and all the attractions. Our drive up to Andorra was so quick and easy from here
Review 16:Bed mattress really thin and uncomfortable, flimsy plastic toilet seat cracked upon first use, the bath plug didn't seal the bathtub so it was impossible to have a bath. Also, the swimming pool was full of families with small children so there was nowhere to sit. Breakfast coffee came from a machine and was really poor. The milk they supplied for the coffee was "off"
Review 17:A place to sleep en route
Review 18:You have to make your bed yourself. Towel package has no facilities to clean dishes.
Review 19:Location down under the rock with "La Vierge" almost dirfect on the road to Andorra. Parking is safe and spacious.
Review 20:Great staff, very calm and quiet area. I had hoped it was nearer the centre of Ax as walking into town would be a bit long and awkward for me, but if you are staying to go skiing that may not be a problem.
Review 21:Having a studio, it had a folding bed (turns into a sofa) instead of a proper one; it was not very big or comfortable (we knew we'd had to make it ourselves and rent linen from previous guests) The building is modern inside, and nicely wood cladded on from the outside, but doesn't really have any views. It's a 15-20 min walk to town/ ski area You need to pay for wifi in the room Hot water was fine in the morning, but a slight shortage in the afternoon
Review 22:It was quite a new building, decent sized studios, quite well equipped, and had OK breakfast available (for a charge). Staff were friendly enough. Wifi in the communal areas was free and good
Review 23:Lack of decent mugs for tea or coffee and a kettle to boil water in. Proper knives rather than steak knives would have been perfect. Other than that everything we needed.
Review 24:The warmth of the apartment. Friendliness of the staff and the fact the children were able to sleigh on the hill by reception.
Review 25:There was bad snow just before arrival so the parking lot was extremely icy. A number of cars could not drive up the slope to the car park for the apartment and we only made it halfway. We had to drag all our bags and ski-ing equipment the rest of the way. We didn't see anyone clearing the snow away and it became a skating rink over the next couple of days. On the last day there were so many new arrivals that we had to park in the centre of the town and walk uphill back to the apartments. Perhaps each parking space should be assigned to an apartment?
Review 26:The property was very clean. It's location was good on the outskirts of the town with good signage. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 27:Paying extra for bedding seems pointless - 2.50? Why would they bother annoying you for 2.50?! Also, we generally leave places as we find them - I suppose some don't, which is why they tell you when you check in that you need to take out the bins, clean all cutlery and crockery and sweep the floor. Free shuttle wasn't obvious so we drove in and got the telecabin up to the ski station.
Review 28:Being the cheapest hotel on Booking.com, it was as good as or better than expected - clean and modern, if slightly strange room layout. However, there is a reason it is the cheapest - you have to pay for bedding and do some basic room cleaning yourself. Close enough to the town, but free shuttle wasn't obvious so we drove in and got the telecabin up to the ski station.
Review 29:cleanliness, the bath was dirty and the shower was a hand held pillows -not enough breakfast -we arrived to late to order for the next day no kettle no hairdryer
Review 30:location parking room was ok for one night stay, conveniant for stopping off
Review 31:reception kept very strict opening hours. no staff were available after 19.00 Wi fi only available in reception so people sitting on kerbs etc outside when closed.
Review 32:smart modern studio with enough equipment for 2. Comfortable bed (not a sofa bed as advertised) lovely building good position walkng distance to Ax. Visited in summer but excellent skiing facilities in winter.
Review 33:Location, walks, quietness, facilities. Staff went above their roles to post on "stuff" left behind. Really helpful, friendly and relaxed.
Review 34:can hear people in next room or on balcony. not good as light sleeper
Review 35:staff helpful
Review 36:The persons there are very friendly and helpful.
Review 37:Hot water was a little hit and miss!
Review 38:Great friendly reception. Clean and well equipped apartments.
Review 39:Cost for bedding a bit of a pain for a one night stay put it on the overall cost per night.
Review 40:Location and pool
Review 41:Good location with a very pleasant footpath to town.
Review 42:about half mile walk from town free wifi didn't work (too slow)
Review 43:nice pool
Review 44:Lovely friendly staff. Very welcoming.
Review 45:Wi-fi was only free in the office, but that worked. Quite compact, but enough.
Review 46:A good way to travel with friends.
Review 47:nothing
Review 48:the location
Review 49:a walk to the town
Review 50:the standard and quality of the room
Review 51:Paying for extras like bedsheets. Not even toilet paper is provided!
Review 52:Very reasonable price.
Review 53:Hotel staff were very helpful and let us stay in our rooms instead if moving us to another we had booked on our 3 rd night.
Review 54:No cooker in kitchen
Review 55:The free bus to the tele cabin was brilliant, it would be quite a difficult walk in ski boots!!
Review 56:Wi-Fi at extra cost - Should be free
Review 57:Location Breakfast Friendly helpful staff (Salvador) Views & facilities (incl pool)
Review 58:Fantastic staff Great refuge for weary cyclists Excellent value for money
Review 59:Quietly placed a short walk from the town centre. Well maintained, including the heated swimming pool(summer).
Review 60:Bathroom needs a shower curtain as each shower results in a swimming pool of the floor. Very badly designed and minimally sized kitchen area more suited to heating up food than cooking. Have to pay extra for linen and towels. Such a shame such bad unsustainable materials were used for the building (even plastic doors!). No lift and lots of steps. Unlit walk into town at night, or along a dangerous road (would not advise walking along road), so do take a torch.
Review 61:The studio was clean and sunny and quiet. Comfortable bed. Big balcony. Parking.
Review 62:No oven or toaster or kettle - very tiny basic kitchen... Not ideal for families. Also, it would be nice to be provided at least 1-2 dishwasher tablets, 1-2 coffee filters and a bit of washing up liquid as it is a pain to pack that and a waste to buy it for short stays...
Review 63:The apartment was clean and a 10/15 min drive down the hill from Bonascre and walking distance to the centre of Ax. Nice modern separate wc and shower/bath.
Review 64:- Hard to find: The hotel does not have an address and was also not listed in my rented car navigation system as a POI, nor is it clearly signposted on the road, so it was very hard to find. Having the lat/lon geo-coordinates is strongly recommended. - Reception closes early (at 19:30). - Only sweet breakfast offered.
Review 65:+ Friendly staff, when they are around.
Review 66:You have to do your own beds, pay extra money for towels and bed clothes and city taxes. You have to clean the room before leaving. No champu, gel in the bathroom.
Review 67:Location close to the centre and good price
Review 68:Bed needs getting used toTake bed linen and bath towel
Review 69:Reception personalNice Appartement for a nice Price Equipped with all necessary Equipment for one person
Review 70:Be aware have to pay extra for bedding and towels etc. which we were unaware off but still very good value for money. If staying for more than one night better to take your own. Sat nav took us all over the place. Could do with better signing as just before a bend and looked like flats which were for sale.
Review 71:The friendliness of staff. It was a lovely studio flat. Very near to Ax-les-Thermes but a bit of a walk to centre. Microwave, pots and pans available as well as cutlery which we missed as in cupboard and bought our own.
Review 72:It came as a surprise that we had to pay extra for bed linen, towels, soap and toilet paper, also when we needed a change.Wifi is free only at the office, not in the rooms.
Review 73:Well designed and equipped studio in excellent condition, withnice balcony.
Review 74:Breakfast too expensive for what you got, you have to pay extra foreverything, from towels, naps to roomcleaning. WHen you only stay twonights you would expect hotelservice. Wifi was ok when it finallyworked, could be better explained for a non native Frenchspeaker.
Review 75:Parking and studio were spacious Nice views
Review 76:Not good for travellers without a car - it is too far from town, the ski lift and especially the railway station Cleaning fee was expensive (35 euro) and the cleaning supplies & equipment provided made it very difficult to clean the apartment sufficiently to avoid this The view is poor if you are unlucky and overlook the car park
Review 77:Affordable Probably suited to travellers with a car and the ability to bring their own supplies (including cleaning supplies) The lady at check out was very friendly If you are lucky you might get a great mountain view
Review 78:This shouldn't be advertised as a hotel, it is self-cateringapartments with only basics in the room. Towels must be hired if youdon't bring your own. There is no on-site restaurant. I think thiswould be a good place to stay if you are prepared and bring your ownhome comforts (towels, toiletries, washing up liquid, hand soap etc)
Review 79:Cheap Walking distance from town centre Storage for skis All apartmentsseem to have balconies with mountain views Quiet
Review 80:Bed was a bit short, I am not tall, but my feet stuck off the end. There is a lack of parking. Spaces had snow piled on them, meaning there were no spaces after 4.30 pm. This is a real pain, having to stick your car on the side of a lane.
Review 81:Modern, functional, clean and comfortable apartments. Fabulous views. Skiing is almost a rival for the Alps, but cheaper and less commercialised.
Review 82:Lack of parking on the weekend arrival. A large part of the car parking was snow covered. Two men could have shovelled it off in an easy mornings work, but they just cordoned it off and there was nowhere to park or unload the car anywhere near our apartment.
Review 83:The location was good with lovely views from the large balcony and a 3 minute drive to the telecabine. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The apartments were well kept and clean with excellent linen. Ax is a really pretty spa town with nice places to eat and drink. It is ideal for a famiy ski holiday. We have two small girls and a teenage boy and girl. It felt really safe and all the children had the freedom to enjoy the pistes and amenities.
Review 84:These apartments are fully self catering and we had to take everything toilet paper, dishwash liquid, cleaning spray, teatowels, toaster, jug, sheets, towels. We were aware of this so it was ok but if you didn't realise it would have have brought the cost up having to go to the supermarket to buy things. Also it meant we had a lot of stuff and we stayed on the second floor so it was a bit of an effort getting everything up the steps. Also, there is a dishwasher so take dishwash tablets.
Review 85:The apartments were modern and well designed with bunk beds in a cabin area which was as good as a second bedroom. The kitchen was well equipped and there was enough storage space. It also had a drying rack for wet ski clothes. It was quiet and had heaps of parking. A nice walk down the path into the village on a snowy morning.
Review 86:@booking.com: Location is set as Perfect by default
Review 87:Very nice and with lots of space.
Review 88:Would have been nice to have a kettle.
Review 89:Clean and convenient- short walk to town; Quiet and comfortable. Very helpful staff.
Review 90:Had to rent bed linen, and then make the beds, and then on departure take used linen to reception.
Review 91:Spacious rooms, well equipped.
Review 92:Not well signed from the road
Review 93:Staff were friendly & efficient. Spoke good English
Review 94:the walk up hill from town, free shuttle runs twice in morning twice at night
Review 95:Quiet location room clean but basic
Review 96:Not really possible to walk to town, you need to drive. Bunk beds a little on the short side.
Review 97:Nice rooms, modern and fairly well furnished.
Review 98:Lovely spacious apartment, which was clean and had good facilities.
Review 99:Very limited hot water (don't think it would have catered for 6 people)
Review 100:Clean Warm Good location Functional
Review 101:No comfortable armchairs. We had to lie on the or sit. On a hard chair.
Review 102:The selfl contained apartment
Review 103:Being charged extra for bedding and possibly cleaning.
Review 104:Design of buildings and location just outside main town so was very quiet.
Review 105:Good location, quiet with nice views. Clean, modern accommodation and nice swimming pool. good base for mountain walking.

Review 112:Nothing
Review 113:The room was clean, comfortable bed, lovely setting excellent pool

Review 116:Lack of cooking utensils and things like mugs
Review 117:Good location for skiing.
