Reviews for BEST WESTERN The Jersey Arms
Review 1:Not really a bad experience, but a general comment to ALL hotels. Please invest in memory foam mattress toppers! Still to find a Hotel or B&B where I wake up without a stiff back. Bedding was beautifully snowy white and clean though.
Review 2:A lovely old building with plenty of the original features still obvious. It is what it is. A very old 13th century former Ale House. Don't expect twentieth century style and commodities and enjoy the quaintness of bygone years. Ideally situated for access to several historical manor houses and countryside walks. A very enjoyable stay.
Review 3:We had an evening meal - over priced and very very poor quality I am afraid. Served hot though ... we went up to our room at 8pm -no ambience at all in bar/restaurant although we got the giggles with the only other couple in the bar over in that we were all talking in hallowed tones ...
Review 4:The two staff we saw, a french lady and a Spanish lady were absolutely lovely - full marks
Review 5:I prefer the price of breakfast included. The price was high, in my opinion.
Review 6:The Jersey Arms is a lovely small hotel which retains a homely atmosphere. The staff were very friendly. The size of the room was good. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you .
Review 7:The hotel was a long way from Bicester. We had to get taxis. We couldnt get wi fi We were also charged £190 which was more than we were quoted. The hotel didn't do food on the sunday so we had to go into town.not good
Review 8:The staff were amazing.Really chatty and friendly, couldnt do enough for us.I loved how old the hotel was.
Review 9:It wasn't a bad experience however the room was very stuffy even with supplied fan; The staff were friendly enough but not too welcoming apart from the owner who was very chatty. No ITV!!
Review 10:The evening food was very tasty and hot.
Review 11:We had no phone signal but the hotel called a taxi for us. The WiFi was fairly poor but we didn't really need it.
Review 12:The room was nice and large with a lovely country feel but with mod cons. We were in the courtyard so it felt like our own place. The staff were friendly. I was surprised to find it was a two star, I would've said 3 minimum, edging to 4.
Review 13:The male and female managers/owners might want to consider an alternative profession where they are not in face to face contact with guests!!I have never experienced such a miserable welcome to such an establishment. We were received by the female manager/owner and we're made to feel like we were imposing on her. The male manager/owner was slightly more upbeat but insisted on closing the bar at 10.30 and then ensuring that all the hotel guests had vacated the bar by 11.00 pm. The location and facilities of this hotel/bar were great but seriously, consider a managerial overhaul!!!
Review 14:The comfortable bed and ample sized room.
Review 15:The management of the hotel should re-consider their career choice - hospitality was lacking and personality bypass was very much in evidence!
Review 16:Comfortable bed and room was clean. Hotel was perfectly located to attend a friends wedding.
Review 17:Management were extremely Unwelcoming on arrival. as if we were an inconvenience ! Bar closed earlier than usual even though we were all still drinking, chatting. We were not loud either! Could hear other guests upstairs while we were in our room (in court yard) even with head phones in! Would not stay again.
Review 18:Bed was comfortable, room clean. Lovely area.
Review 19:It is obvious the hotel is being run down by the minimal number of staff, the half stocked bar and the fact that on a Friday night in August there were a handful of guests staying and only two tables in use in the restaurant, our party of 4 and a single man. This must have been a real buzzing place once but now feels abandoned and is starting to look a bit neglected.
Review 20:Location, room, staff, building
Review 21:Staff were friendly enough, but spoke very little English, our room looked a little tired no frills very basic.
Review 22:Breakfast room was full of character and good choice of breakfast.
Review 23:Seems to be running on a shoe string, despite the charges. Breakfast was just about OK and the plates were not warmed. Somewhat remote from night time entertainment. Expensive if you use taxis
Review 24:Friendly staff, but had some difficulty with accents. Was easy to drive to from M40, Bicester or Banbury
Review 25:Very friendly staff. Great character building. We stayed in a suite which we were not expecting and were thrilled with the facilities and comfort provided.
Review 26:would have like breakfast time to be extended to 11 am or later ,we missed breakfast the first morning and went to a little cafe, next day we went back to the same cafe as it was at a later time which suited us better
Review 27:friendly atmosphere quiet, nice location to oxford and bicester village
Review 28:Fire alarm went off at about 1.30am and no staff member appeared for entire duration it sounded (15 minutes) - Dangerous and putting guests lives at risk
Review 29:Room comfortable, if looking tired
Review 30:Very slow services. Tables were not cleared at Breakfast. Ran out of hot water and we just had to accept it. Ask 4 times for them to book us a taxi for a wedding they never did, but the manager gave us a lift in his mini
Review 31:location
Review 32:Booked a table for 8pm and told that we had to order quickly as the Chef was leaving at 9pm regardless. The whole place closed down at 10pm with the staff leaving us in the bar alone. No-one mentioned this when I called and booked the table for dinner. We were hoping for a nice warm country pub atmosphere and it was just very dull.
Review 33:As our room was in a block outside, we had our own "front door" key which was ideal as we were attending an evening event and would be returning late
Review 34:Access to the rooms can be quite difficult with luggage and our room had a very low door and steps.
Review 35:Location was ideal for Bicester Village and for our reunion party. Breakfast room was lovely and a surprise as we hadn't seen it when checking in.
Review 36:No complaints here at all.
Review 37:The staff here are really excellent and make your stay so much more enjoyable than staying in a bigger, less personal hotel.
Review 38:Attitude of lady owner not very pleasant her husband was a lot nicer to deal with. Poor bar and stock disappointing. Closed to early.
Review 39:Location was very good.very nice clean room. Cleaning staff lovely.
Review 40:I'd hoped for a local cask beer with my meal, but they no longer serve from casks. Seems that demand isn't high enough.
Review 41:We needed somewhere close to Oxford to get into the city in the morning, and The Jersey Arms was well-located. It's a very old hotel - goes back to 1200 - and built of Cotswold stone, so has real character. Staff were helpful, room was comfortable, dinner was fine.
Review 42:Decor and upkeep a little dated and service for dinner & breakfast a little slow.
Review 43:The character of the building and friendliness of the staff was excellent
Review 44:We got the impression we were inconveniencing the lady on reception - no smile and minimal information. The breakfast was OK, but at nearly £14 each it was over-priced for an egg, a sausage, a slice of bacon and some baked beans.
Review 45:The room was large and quaint. The location suited us because we just wanted to break a long journey. This hotel gave us the opportunity to see both Bicester and Banbury.
Review 46:Not being able to watch the TV from bed, just a small thing.
Review 47:The cooked full english was very nice but would have liked a bit more choice eg hash browns. Also not much of a choice on the breakfast buffet, croissants or pastries would have been good.
Review 48:Bar was supposed to be open until 10pm but it wasn't open when we got back @ 9.45 on the Saturday night. Headboard was very noisy which detracted from a good night's sleep in otherwise comfy bed
Review 49:Large room and very quiet in spite of being on junction with traffic lights
Review 50:Shower curtain needed replacing & "Blue Loo" evident on top of toilet exit pipe. Still a shame not to have a decent beer on a pump despite the notice saying it's not really worth their while stocking it!
Review 51:Friendliness of staff - good size room in an oldy worldy building. Excellent food.
Review 52:Rooms were a bit shabby and due for a makeover. Breakfast was nothing special and a bit over priced.
Review 53:Lovely old coaching inn with warm comfortable bar. Room was in old converted outbuilding in rear courtyard Quaint!
Review 54:My wife and both thought the room and staff were great , but the breakfast at just over £9 each was a bit of a let down. But over all the stay was enjoyable.
Review 55:Staff were very friendly and helpfull. Liked room because it had a separate lounge area with tv. And a very comfy bed.
Review 56:When we first arrived room was a little chilly. After putting on the electric heater it soon warmed up :D
Review 57:A great place to stay. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. A spacious room with everything we needed.
Review 58:unfortunately we arrived on the coldest night of the year and the hotel had not been used for a few days hence it was cold. However staff told us to use the heaters in the bedrooms which we did
Review 59:Car park was not very well lit and it eas over road from hotel.
Review 60:Accommodation was excellent.Did not expect it to be as good as that.Very good value for money.
Review 61:Extractor fan from our neighbor could be heard & it woke us once in the wee hours. Our suite was clean for the major areas -- bedding, bath, and carpet -- but when I bent to pick up something I had dropped, I noticed items underneath furniture (bottles & an orange). We couldn't connect to Wifi initially but signal was good once available. All these are minor & I mention them only in case they are deal-breakers for someone else.
Review 62:We had a very large suite with only one neighboring wall so our off-season stay was quiet. Staff were all helpful & friendly, particularly Lauren, giving us tips about sightseeing. Dining room and pub were charming. Breakfasts were very tasty; the dinners we had there were good overall.
Review 63:Good location for shopping at nearby Bicester village Quiet village location but local amenities short drive away including cinema, supermarkets etc Quirky rooms Nice bar area with restaurant that serves decent food
Review 64:Uncomfortable bed had trouble sleeping.bill should be itemised on checkout and we thought the food was nice but expensive for what we had.
Review 65:Friendly staff but only saw 3 the whole weekend.nice large bedroom.
Review 66:Expensive for what it is: a two star establishment. Lady who checked us in had a flat affect and had a paucity of speech: Given to hand gestures rather than speech. Perhaps would rather have been left to the Daily Mail she was reading as we arrived!
Review 67:Comfortable bed. Clean sheets. Clean bathroom porcelain. Very pleasant young lady who provided a good breakfast and dealt with check out.
Review 68:As we wanted a place exactly nearby so this was one of the few last minute options we had. We got one room in the wing building which was really noisy as the window was just above the road so you can hear clearly every sound a car makes when it passes. The window was very old style so it does no sound proof at all.
Review 69:On junction of two well used B roads so traffic noise. Tired décor. Room smelt slightly musty on arrival. If not in the bar at 10.00 pm pub locked up!
Review 70:Food was good. Bed comfortable Staff, particularly Lauren - entertaining and helpful. Location suited our needs to be close to Banbury, walking the local area and availability of a very nice Italian restaurant in the village A characterful place
Review 71:Bar closed 10pm Saturday Breakfast 07:30-09:30 Sunday Room superficially clean only Bed lumpy & sloping very poor Sausages not cooked through - raw in middle No real ale
Review 72:Location Size & layout of room Excellent wi-fi Proper size bath!!!!
Review 73:Price charged was more than the on line price quoted 87 charged 110 pounds Filthy dirty old curtains and bed room smelt dirty and musty peeling paint etc
Review 74:Quaint old pub 800 year old coaching in
Review 75:The Bill
Review 76:we found the service we received was excellent!!! The young receptionist was more than happy too accommodate all our needs. Very polite and courteous. Will certainly pop back at some time and enjoy some more of their excellent food too.
Review 77:The dinner food was not good quality. The breakfasts were at best uninspiring. Busy road alongside the hotel was noisy. Steep narrow stairs to some of the rooms were potentially dangerous
Review 78:Friendly helpful staff
Review 79:Our room was down a few steps, not a problem but it was very dark and smelt musty. The flush on the toilet didn't work and no toilet paper in bathroom. The pub stopped serving food at 9pm, we arrived at 20.50 so couldn't order food, and the bar closed at 10.00 being in the Cotswolds I would have expected all local staff working there, but they were all foreign. (They were polite, but their English wasn't the best. The breakfast was ok, I travel once a month to different hotels, and this place was very disappointing and didn't reflect the price we paid.
Review 80:Location
Review 81:Decor is basic and a bit dated. The hotel is located between two busy roads so traffic can be a bit noisy.
Review 82:Location is very convenient for Bicester Village. Cooked breakfast is very good, the buffet a bit basic. Bed was comfortable.
Review 83:Staff fantastic, food ? Got ripped off for garlic king prawns , got 6 prawns you wouldn't even use for a prawn cocktail totall rip off at £7.50
Review 84:Comfortable bed nice breakfast and evening meal

Review 93:Friendly staff, good location for our needs and good food selection and quality.
Review 94:Very warm welcome, nice cosy place, lovely breakfast & clean room
Review 95:The food was poor in the cooking, taste and presentation. Confit of duck was extremely tough served with over cooked vegetables.
Review 96:Size of room
Review 97:No night porter, no porridge, no lift, steps to en suite, tiny wardrobe.
Review 98:The Bed
Review 99:No mobile phone reception.
Review 100:Staff, food and service excellent
Review 101:Too far away for meals and other necessitites
Review 102:Very quiet place to relax in a journey stopover.
Review 103:On arrival not really a warm greeting more interested in the local in the bar and the television
Review 104:Nice suite with two floors
Review 105:The food was not at all good. We had to send one of the meals back as it was cold. It was then re-heated and re-served.
Review 106:The staff were friendly.
Review 107:Wifi was extremely poor, couldn't work from laptop.
Review 108:Bed & bath were lovely
Review 109:Hotel in general overpriced. Breakfast very poor for the money charged.
