Reviews for The Falmouth Townhouse

Review 1:The room was cold, lighting was inadequate, very draughty, carpet, furnishings and decor were all dated and in very poor condition. The stair carpets were threadbare in many places. Paintwork and windows on the landing were in very poor condition. Billiard table in centre of breakfast room. One the first morning we had to eat breakfast in the bar area. Would not recommend this hotel. Overpriced and uncomfortable in the extreme

Review 2:It took an hour to fill the bath with hot water Radiators did not warm the room enough but extra heater was provided on request.

Review 3:Friendly staff - great breakfast Lovely big room - great furnishings

Review 4:No parking even although website advises there is some available on a first come first served basis.

Review 5:Marc was so helpful and friendly. He cooked our breakfast and it was delicious.

Review 6:Not so much a bad experience, but the public areas seemed a little tired and would benefit from a little maintenance, as would the rear access and outside areas. Upon arrival, the hotel sign was not obvious.

Review 7:The guest rooms and breakfast choice were very good, and the staff were extremely polite and helpful. We would definitely stay again.

Review 8:The window has rotted, can be quite drafty which is not ideal in the winter. With it being single pained glass, it can be noisy from the local residents (seagulls) lol.

Review 9:Love that it look like one of a kind! Staff were lovely! Huge bed and comfy. The room was well decorated with a very nice bathroom.

Review 10:This was my second stay here. I thought I'd return after a good first stay. I regretted it. First, the wifi reception was very poor and intermittent. Maybe this was because I was in a room at the end on the top floor. Because my wifi was bad, I thought I would watch the TV. However it wouldn't turn on. This may have been operator error, but there were no buttons on the TV and the remote did nothing. The room was very cold and there were no extra blankets. As I was staying in December this was disappointing. Another thing missing from my room was shampoo and shower gel. According to the room book, it was meant to be in my room. This meant I had to use the hand soap when I showered. Another minus about the bathroom, which was a major problem to me, was that as soon as I tried to flush the toilet, the button came out of the wall, meaning I was unable to flush. I had done nothing except press, so this was a problem as it was in little pieces. Also, my room was in need of repainting as you could see marks, possibly damp on the walls which was unattractive. I would also suggest that you get a bell for the front desk as every time I went there, there was no one there.

Review 11:Breakfast was excellent and the bed very comfortable. Location was perfect.

Review 12:I didn't like there not being enough milk for tea and coffee in my room. Would prefer to help myself to a smaller glass of orange juice.

Review 13:I liked the breakfasts and the comfy bed and the nice bathroom and the lovely sea view.

Review 14:The rooms were very tired. Paint peeking, damp patches and torn carpet. It is a lovely building but not looked after. It could be fab, if new carpets and rooms were given fresh paint etc. I do not think that I would pay if it was full price.

Review 15:The staff were friendly and very helpful. Good central location.

Review 16:Brighter lighting, heating that worked, restaurant on site as stated on Booking.com. Clean furniture and proper curtains on windows so that draught did not come through. Cleaner hallway, lights that worked in the hallway so you could see where you are going. Breakfast room that was a little more comfortable. Walls needed cleaning. This building has so much potential but neglected and no one really seems to care. Only booked this hotel on the basis that there was a restaurant advertised and parking. Falsely advertised!! Cold rooms, windows rattled and chain for blind broken. Out of season so price paid was high for quality of hotel and facilities. Not happy:(

Review 17:Breakfast was good.

Review 18:There were a few things needing fixing. The bathroom light wouldn't go off. The bath plug didn't work and the loo seat was broken... little things but nevertheless important

Review 19:Loved the location, staff were efficient and friendly. Bed V. comfortable.

Review 20:Cold on a blowy November night. The sash windows are single-glazed and a howling gale bloing into the room. Worse still the heating did not come on till 8a.m. At present there is no sign with the name of the place outside so one walks past: This will no doubt change when the lettering is reinstated. Potential customers should note it is the building immediately south of the Cutty Sark pub.

Review 21:Very near the centre of Falmouth and in walking distance of the station.

Review 22:This place could be lovely but needs serious money spending on it. The dingy staircase coupled with a red light in reception was reminiscent of bail hostel/brothel and we nearly left there and then but were too tired and the staff so nice we didn't want to hurt their feelings. Room itself was quite good but water ingress around the windows with a soaking wet wall and a cracked toilet pan in the (otherwise smart) bathroom needs addressing. There is parking outside if you're lucky, otherwise it's a game of musical cars and trying to outwit the parking attendants on the public car park opposite.

Review 23:Staff were really good, friendly and helpful, cannot fault them. Room was a good size, clean with huge comfy bed and the breakfast was really good. Evening meal not available but good restaurants within a very short walk - try the Warehouse, really nice.

Review 24:Did not like being charged £150 a night. Especially as told by receptionist that the rate if we had booked direct was £60. Having discussed this with Booking.com and Hotel I am no clearer as to where extra £90 went! Certainly not on hotel refurbishments!

Review 25:Good Breakfast

Review 26:Cleanliness and maintenance of property appalling.

Review 27:Breakfast OK, Location in the town. Staff accepted my comments with regard to the state of the place.

Review 28:Helpful reception, pleasant staff, wonderful breakfast and excellent location right opposite the harbour. Good to have a paper to read during the unrushed breakfast

Review 29:The room was not worth £130.00 it needed painting and made more luxury for the cost of one night stay.

Review 30:The location for the town couldn't have been better and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 31:Lack of parking

Review 32:We stayed here for 10 nights as a Base for our holiday around Cornwall. When we first went into our room I thought my husband was going to moan about the furniture but in fact though it's old 60's/70's furniture it actually was bigger and more useful to use as we had brought a lot of clothes with us. The room was of a very good size and the bed was massive and very comfortable. The bathroom was also very good with a bath, walk in shower, toilet & basin with plenty of room to move around. The best part of this hotel has to be the staff, from the guys that run it to the chef, the barman, breakfast staff and not forgetting the cleaner. Our room was cleaned every day to a high standard, the breakfast choice was amazing and was soooo good to eat. I have never stayed in a hotel before where there was nothing to complain about but there was definitely nothing at this hotel. If you can look passed the furniture which actually suits this laid back hotel, it truly is a lovely victorian building with lovely staff and definitely worth a stay there.

Review 33:Staff were delightful and really helpful; breakfast excellent with lots of newspapers, room very spacious and comfortable, centrally located and a beautiful building.

Review 34:Paid for a quote 'luxury' room. What we good was substandard. Dirty. Unusable bath. Poor facilities. The rest of the hotel was shoddy, dirty and unkept with no attempt to provide customer care. Shame on Booking, com for advertising it!

Review 35:Good location and breakfast was very good.

Review 36:Nothing

Review 37:Wonderful welcome, really helpful lovely staff.Loved the decor of the room, nearly stayed another night because the room was so lovely.Bathroom was amazing as well. Breakfast was great.

Review 38:Could do with a bit of decorating and repair work throughout but especially the hallways. It's chic but a bit shabby.

Review 39:Excellent laid back atmosphere thanks to the staff. Stylish hotel with some neat touches - light fittings, good cocktail choices, modern furniture, lively colour schemes and retro furniture which made it interesting. Best thing was the staff - great welcome from young guy on reception/bar even though we were late arriving - great courtesy. Good music especially in the morning. Really laid back atmosphere - happy for me to have a coffee and read the paper before getting breakfast. Friendly and chatty in general with local info but not too much. Great bed/mattress and location too!

Review 40:Not really a complaint just that the owners had painted the outside of the building a different colour and taken down the signs, it didn't match the photo on the booking site. A phone call later and we found it. Photo needs updating.

Review 41:The staff were really friendly and let us is our room early, Free parking. A nice view of the Harbour and the Cocktail lounge was great. Arranged Taxi for us. Altogether a very good serivice.

Review 42:The lovely bath was spoilt by the difficult to adjust taps and couldn't change temperature from red hot! Parking was a joke and very disappointed

Review 43:Beautiful room, odd mix of furniture but still loved it. Fab bathroom

Review 44:The hotel looks very tired, and needs a coat of paint to freshen it up. An upstairs window frame did not exist and rainwater dripped through damaged plaster in the morning. Really not a £130/night hotel.

Review 45:The staff were very friendly, and very tidy bathroom.

Review 46:Where to start? The location was perfect for the railway station and the town and harbour. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. And as for the breakfast....outstanding! So much choice and so well cooked and presented. You would not find better. Excellent in every way.

Review 47:Hard to find as in the middle of painting the front of the building,

Review 48:We enjoyed the freindly attitude of the staff and there williness to help in anything they were asked .

Review 49:Emailed to say my wife was Celiac, yet on 1st morning just took items from breakfast, but 2nd day, the breakfast was lovely. Needs to improve rear entrance to Hotel,as looks real shabby.

Review 50:location was brilliant, staff was so friendly and polite, may book here again.

Review 51:Bed needed replacing as had a dip in it on my side and it was really hot in the room even with a fan.

Review 52:Staff really helpful room nice and clean and modern breakfast lovely too

Review 53:Beds very comfortable. Breakfast was awesome: wide choice, well cooked and presented, great service. Excellent location close to town centre and yacht marina. Not everyone will appreciate the retro furnishings/decor of this hotel but they do add to its style.

Review 54:Sash Window that doesn't close, although they wouldn't drown out any noise regardless. Residents drinking outside the front until 01:00 Hrs. On a Tuesday evening. Very tired room facilities and tired decor.

Review 55:Location for Food is Good Nice View of Harbour

Review 56:Hotel a bit shabby and entrance poor and in need of decoration.

Review 57:Good bathroom, excellent friendly staff and also breakfast outstanding. Easy location to get to ferries and restaurants.

Review 58:Room 6 top floor was like an oven we had a fan that didn't really help as turned off as soon as we took out room key so heat built up during the day plus stains on the seat & a cracked toilet bowel

Review 59:The location & quirkiness was great

Review 60:Off putting reception area - but don't be put off by first appearances.....! Still work to be done, but they deserve to succeed

Review 61:Well positioned for shops and restaurants - the young staff were very welcoming and helpful. The bathroom was good, the bed was extremely comfortable.... and the english breakfast exceptional.

Review 62:Minor shortcomings in room servicing. All public spaces, including bed room and dining room would benefit from a 'make-over' to refresh the appearence. The entrance garden is very neglected and does a disservice to the hotel.

Review 63:Location ideal for harbour facilities and restaurants.

Review 64:V old tired building needs a complete overhaul and updating. Absolutely not value for what paid. Hallways clean but totally unappealing. Room in need of damp proofing and re painting. Best rooms overlook the sea front but with heat windows need to be open --road and yobbo noise during the night was terrible. Breakfast room shabby and tired. Stodgy breakfast offerings

Review 65:Nothing much unfortunately.

Review 66:Nothing. Even the coffee is good.

Review 67:Superb hospitality, cannot say enough about the quality service, warm welcome and chilled approach everyone here gave us. These people helped make our wedding. Genuinely brilliant.

Review 68:The plastic topped tables in the dining room and the lighting.

Review 69:The young man who ran the bar and did many other things very well. All the staff were very nice and most helpful

Review 70:Most of points are covered in previous revues. House has signs of serious damp communal areas not regularly clean. Proprietor shirt & an iron. Are not often seen. Together Furniture scruffy

Review 71:Location & breakfast most

Review 72:Just too many stairs, I'm not very fit but not a problemb

Review 73:The relaxed polite and friendliness of staff.I loved the little garden at the back. Every thing about the place made it a very comfortable and easy stay.

Review 74:Appeared to be significant water damage which detracted from the highly stylised interior design.

Review 75:Right in the heart of Falmouth, with great staff who worked very hard to ensure a good experience- and a great breakfast!

Review 76:Small double room for full price. Wouldn't mind except showeroom in poor condition: skirting missing, mould marks and towel rail hanging off wall. Just a shame when it would only take some minor work to make this hotel potentially perfect!

Review 77:Style, location, breakfast, views, staff

Review 78:Parking difficult but are spaces within 10-15 minute walk back. No soap shower gel and kettle was slow but if that is the worse! Also quite pricey especially with scaffolding up.

Review 79:Friendly efficient staff. Breakfast was fab and at a lovely leisurely pace. One of the best. Room was compact but what a great shower. Overall nice non chain feel and if you like eclectic soak this one up!

Review 80:All good

Review 81:Do not let the décor or furniture put you off. This hotel is a gem. Very comfortable bed. First rate breakfast. Very friendly and welcoming staff. But the surprise ingredient was Liam, a great mixologist, really knows his stuff about cocktails. 10/10 for his Margaritas. We really enjoyed our stay.

Review 82:Perfect location! Staff we super friendly and efficient! Really nice bar area, breakfast was amazing & room was idyllic - amazingly comfy bed! Thank you for a great stay!! Would come back when visiting Falmouth again.

Review 83:Breakfast- good quality love Hogs Pudding gold star to chef!Molly and Liam (Cocktail barman) really helpful & friendly and made you feel welcome & relaxed. Great bar for the evening with lots of cocktails to choose from & drinks reasonably priced. Great location for all of Falmouth bars a restaurants so can walk

Review 84:Nothing that id complain about

Review 85:This hotel is unique as we live in a grade two listed building we know about how hard it is to upkeep nothings perfect what do you expect for a building of that age the staff were all unique in there own way all very helpfull and friendly and just a great bunch would recomend to anyone who likes quirky :)

Review 86:Missing little details that I would expect for the cost of the stay such as water in room, bathroom items. Also small things like tatty blinds instead of curtains.

Review 87:Good size room and comfortable stay. Friendly staff. Good breakfast.

Review 88:Very friendly, excellent vegetarian breakfast which is served til midday on a weekend which is legendary, complimentary newspapers great bar with excellent ale/craft beer selection.

Review 89:Damp on the walls, kicked in skirting to shower, grimy in a lot of places; dust/dirt all over bathroom floor, idiosyncratic placement of items in room e.g kettle on one side, coffee making facilities on the other. More wires coming out of the teeny tiny wall mounted tv than I've seen sitting in a roadside cafe in Bangkok. Unashamedly expensive. Couldn't eat most of the breakfast because of the vile oil it had been cooked in. Person who checked us in described the place as Faulty Towers - at least the staff know how to market the place.....

Review 90:Great location - reflected in the extortionate price

Review 91:Our booking was for a superior king room (the same as we booked at our previous visit) with a sea view although the room we were allocated was smaller than we had previously and didn't have a sea view.

Review 92:Location, food and staff were excellent. We had stayed here previously which is why we came back again

Review 93:Very freindly staff and owner. Excellent welcome. Outstanding cooked breakfast. Superb Listed building with just the best mix of old and contemporary furniture. Check out the light fittings!

Review 94:Bar was a little bit noisy/rowdy at 11pm when we returned to the hotel (mostly non-residents). Would have preferred to have had a buffet section to help oneself to while waiting for the cooked breakfast to arrive. Could be set up in bar area in if not enough room in dining room.

Review 95:Great location, very enjoyable cooked breakfast, large quiet bedroom, appealing townhouse frontage.

Review 96:Hair dryer blew up on my hand and Room 8 has a leak which has been there for a long time and not repaired. You paid for the great view but serious improvement in decor overdue.

Review 97:The staff were very friendly and service excellent. Good range of beers at bar ABD very tasty breakfast.

Review 98:The room had damp front wall patches & peeling paint. No soap or shampoo in the room.

Review 99:Friendly hotel with good Manager & staff. Great breakfast!

Review 100:Nothing to dislike

Review 101:We stayed in room 4, a large comfortable room with a superb shower. The view from our window was fabulous. The hotel is in a great location, next to the harbour and a few steps away from great pubs and restaurants. The breakfast was excellent and the staff friendly. Would recommend this hotel. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you The Falmouth Townhouse for a great weekend break.

Review 102:A superb location opposite the harbour and a few minutes' walk from the station. Very laid-back, funky feel -- shabby chic, retro furnishings, friendly staff. Excellent breakfast included in the room rate. Maybe avoid if you want immaculate decor and formality, but you'd be missing the point, and missing out. We'd happily stay here again, and will hopefully do so soon.

Review 103:No toiletries not even a piece of soap to wash your hands after the toilet. When mentioned about no soap was told it was because people stole the toiletries.Had to go out and buy toiletries like soap shower gel. Definitely not 4 star hotel.

Review 104:Friendly staff, lovely bathroom. Lovely location. Good breakfast.

Review 105:Room dirty in places (including sheets), facilities a little shambolic (couldn't find the iron)

Review 106:Great location, real character, likeable staff, excellent breakfast

Review 107:The hotel parking was very tricky unless you have a small car. However there was a large council car park opposite.

Review 108:Great location with lots of good restaurants, bars, and pubs all within walking distance. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely go back.

Review 109:the noise from students at night, the bed was too soft the room needed a bit of TLC - Toilet roll holder broken etc

Review 110:the breakfasts were wonderful the convenience of the location the friendly staff

Review 111:The bath didn't work, which would have been great considering what a nice tub it was.

Review 112:The hotel is well decorated with a chic retro vibe. The room and the bathroom were very comfortable and large. Cool bar downstairs and breakfast was really good.

Review 113:Not the Hotel fault but the front street noise and night.

Review 114:Loved the bathroom and soft lighting. Good powerful shower and lovely bath. The room was a great size clean and comfy, love the view on the front. The Breakfast was very good indeed.

Review 115:Location,adjacent to noisy late night bars. Disturbed sleep until 3am. Hotel decor grubby, damaged and worn. In dire need of a makeover. Unfortunate burst pipe at 5am caused disturbance and no water available for washing or shower.

Review 116:Staff very friendly and helpful. Very good breakfast. Comfortable bed.

Review 117:Room was hot, noise from next door pub, parking arrangement - but goes with the central location .

Review 118:Ambiance, tasty breakfast, music in bar, cocktails , very obliging staff, comfortable bed and lovely bathroom.

Review 119:As previous reviewers have mentioned, the whole place could do with a lick of paint, new carpeting and some attention to the front garden area.

Review 120:This is a lovely hotel with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. our rooms were spacious, clean and the beds comfortable. The bathrooms were spotless and well appointed. Breakfast was excellent and the bar area fun.

Review 121:We stayed in Room 5 which has a very sorry view made worse by dirty windows and sill and should in my view be updated or made as a store room only..

Review 122:Nice relaxed atmosphere and lovely breakfast. Bathroom also excellent

Review 123:Slight inconvenience of parking, due to central location. Used the large public carpark opposite.

Review 124:Huge room tastefully furnished with a cool retro vibe. Relaxed and friendly service throughout my stay. Great breakfast service too.

Review 125:Wifi didn't quite reach to the very top floor, or was pretty weak when it did.

Review 126:Perfect location, right on the harbour side with plenty of parking close by. We had the 'small' double room but it was more than large enough with nice views over the harbour, a large double bed and well equipped en-suite. Fantastic customer service from each member of staff we encountered, genuinely friendly and eager to know about your day and offer their advice on the local area. Awesome breakfasts cooked to order too, a great bonus. Would definitely recommend for a young couple like ourselves.

Review 127:Fantastic building with great confident style. The breakfast was amazing with so much choice and quality ingredients, always served with a smile. Thank you all, we want to come back soon.

Review 128:Staff were helpful during our stay. Breakfast excellent with a variety of choice. Location was really good for travelling to popular locations of Cornwall.

Review 129:Room cleaning after arrival was a hit or miss.

Review 130:The view from room 8 was excellent. Breakfast was very good. The bar in general was very nice. Age group mainly 30s

Review 131:The fabric of the building needs money spent on it, salting plaster and peeling paint in the bedroom wasn't what I expected. Wifi didn't reach top floor of the hotel where we were staying.

Review 132:Staff friendly and attentive Excellent breakfast Comfortable bed

Review 133:The bedroom could have done with a fresh lick of paint and some new blinds but this was a minor negative

Review 134:An excellent central position to explore Falmouth. The hotel staff were exemplary and made me feel at home. Nothing was too much and the breakfasts were delicious!!

Review 135:Slightly noisy if in a room at the front of the Town House if you are a light sleeper as it's next to a late closing pub & on a main road. But don't let this fact stop you from enjoying a stay at this quirky hotel.

Review 136:Thick, soft carpet in spacious room with huge sash window of which you can lie in the huge bed & watch the world & boats go by from. Luxury bathroom with powerful shower, Ren toiletries & pure white, soft bath sheet size towels. Friendly, helpful & fun staff. Delicious & different breakfast, from eggs benedict to pancakes, if only we could have managed all options on the menu. Will definitely return.

Review 137:After booking and recieving the confirmation mail, i was very upset when calling the Falmouth Townhouse only to be told, they did not know why i was calling as they had no rooms vacant and as far as they were concerned Booking . com should not have taken the booking. So i am sorry to say i have nothing to base my answers of my stay on .,.

The Fine Print
