Reviews for The Malvern Guesthouse & The Blues Grill
Review 1:We booked a bar and grill both were closed during our visit with no apologies or explanation just a rude and indifferent host all in all a very expensive and poor B & B
Review 2:Breakfast was ok
Review 3:Staff very friendly, room was clean, just right for 2 people, breakfast was lovely was only us that had breakfast both mornings and the man was very kind in letting us have a late breakfast so we could lay in, would Deffo come back again ,
Review 4:Needs a little more attention to cleanliness, one sheet on the bed had holes in it, metal shelves in bathroom were dusty, toilet was cracked and the seat wasnt fitted properly, duvets and pillows need to be updated.
Review 5:No hot water. Breakfast finished at nine o'clock no draft beer at bar, no alternative offered. Booked a family room but was stuck in the rafters too many stairs for a family plus luggage's wish I had not had the breakfast now as this was £10 per head extra. £100 over two days just for breakfast!!!!!!!
Review 6:Building smelled terrible as soon as you walked in the room also smelled terrible , we couldn't even get into the bed it smelled and looked dirty also couldn't move on it as it was hard squeaky and clearly years old...definitely not worth £80 per night ....very disappointed
Review 7:Room 6 was a little stuffy even with window wide open.decor needs updating.toilet had a dodgy flush. Shower good although had a tendency to go hot and cold half way through.
Review 8:Location was good + opposite sea. Breakfast was delicious+ good variety.
Review 9:We had difficulty getting a nice temperature in the shower, could still shower just bit frustrating.
Review 10:Location was perfect for us and checking in was easy. The room was basic and had what we needed
Review 11:TV reception and Wifi coverage not so good. Need boosters fitted all round.
Review 12:Met by friendly owner who carried our case upstairs to our room. He was always around to help. Our large room was fine with a comfortable bed. Pretty clean all round with a good shower. Plenty of free parking opposite the hotel and great sea views. We did not have breakfast in the hotel. The owners of this family-run hotel in Cliftonville work very hard to make it a good place to stay.
Review 13:Great location within walking distance to the town centre and sea front. Lovely room with a sea view. Friendly staff very knowledgeable of the area and local events. Gorgeous breakfast with a good variety of choices.
Review 14:Member of staff I assume owner? manager? that greeted us and served breakfast was very rude. Everything felt 'like to much trouble' and he was unhelpful and unfriendly.
Review 15:adequate facilities for overnight stay if you want basic accommodation.
Review 16:the Blues Brother grill room was closed and we had to go into Margate for an evening meal. the manager was the only person working in the guesthouse ,he was doing everything a great guy very helpful but on the Saturday morning a young girl helped with the breakfast we had along wait everything was cooked fresh. I did try to confirm our booking on the Thursday before we travelled but there was no-one to answer the phone, he explained it was only him the chef had hurt his back that was why there wasn't a restaurant. He made our stay as comfortable as was possible. They do need more staff.
Review 17:The manager and the room was very clean
Review 18:Staff not very friendly I was help with luggage but that was it tried to book a table in the restaurant but never received the email with the menu so had to take my kids else where in the terrible weather :-( place is clean room is ok but owner/manager could brush up on his people skills
Review 19:Overall not bad but the place would do with deep cleaning and some general upgrades and tlc. Cooked breakfast took ages to arrive.
Review 20:Good location. Nice view from the window. and the owner let us park our bike in his private garge at rear, which was very much appreciated.
Review 21:Dirty Kettle, dirty mugs in room on arrival, kettle didn't work Dirty plate and mugs at breakfast, food cheapest quality Room like a converted cupboard Complaints not welcomed, my room left open and my bags unattended after a further complaint on morning of departure
Review 22:Was looking forward to the 'Blues Brothers' bar but was disappointed to find it was closed. I'm not going to run the place down as it was adequate and the people were pleasant but there is just something missing plus needs a bit of maintenance. I have stayed in hotels, guest houses and B&B's weekly for over 15 years and I'd say this is more a contractors B&B than a seaside guesthouse.
Review 23:Nice breakfast and tea station in room very complete. Clean, functional, no frills and fair price.
Review 24:Room was nicely set out with a desk and chair, close to the sea front. Friendly enough. I guess there is nothing wrong with the place, but it doesn't lift itself out of the ordinary in anyway. Standard seaside B&B, reasonable value for money. If there were stars it would get 3.5 out of 5.
Review 25:Rooms small, desperately need a update. Thick cobwebs; looked like a shelf above bed! Unclean bathroom, stained floor mat & curtain around sink. Fake flowere need chucking, full of mould & dust.
Review 26:Location.
Review 27:Over priced really for what it is, really needs some TLC and updating done and the restaurant was closed.
Review 28:The manager was really friendly and helpful and the breakfast was really good. It's in a really good location
Review 29:We had to book the hotel because all other hotels were fully booked online, and we thought the previous review were fairly positive. When we first entered our top floor sea front room, first impression was tidy, however as we started to settling in, we started to feel the place didn't feel clean. Particularly, our bathroom was really in need of updating, as toilet seat was loose, shower cube was slightly mouldy. We were also unsure if the bath mat was changed before our arrival. Overall, unfortunately, we wouldn't stay again in this B&B, especially our room rate was £85.
Review 30:Sea front view room & cooked breakfast.
Review 31:Paid £80 on the website for a box of a room but asked to stay in a sea view room if possible - the hotel added an extra £5 and called it an upgrade and never brothered to ask me or inform me before I took the room the only reason I found out was because the payment failed. Don't waste your money or time the room was only worth £50 and that was pushing it and as for breakfast, greasy spoon at best as you can tell was very disappointed
Review 32:Free wi-fi
Review 33:Told restaurant is closed all week. Not good with a 7 year old girl, and single dad. No for warning.
Review 34:Nice room view, was given an option of changing rooms to a better view.
Review 35:Excuse was that the cleaning staff and the cooking staff were on holiday. Theowners too apparently, Nothing had been updated since about 1970.
Review 36:wifi and breakfast was ok.
Review 37:The cleanliness of the room was not up to standard and we even found pubic hairs in the bathroom which was disgusting. The shower pressure is really bad and I just gave up after a few minutes of ice cold and scalding hot water. The shower plughole was completely blocked. The price is way too high for what you actually get. Heating was not switched on and it was really cold, when the heating was eventually on, it was a luke warm radiator which did not help, but found a plug in electric heater in the room. I think a lot of work needs to be done to charge the price they do.
Review 38:Very friendly owner, went through a lot of trouble to sort out a room for us when for some reason he did not get the booking confirmation from Booking.com.
Review 39:Very low pressure in shower and difficult to get the temperature right. Heating was not working at all... Extremely cold during the winter night. No wifi inside my room.
Review 40:Fair trade products. Very quiet room.
Review 41:For the price I paid, I would not comment on anything. It had what I needed for a single person who was not worried about having an ensuite room.
Review 42:My room was a very generous sized single room with a comfortable bed and a lovely view. I had a wash basin but no bathroom (as described in the details) and which accounted for the excellent price I paid. Very warm room on a cold winter's night, with door opening on to a balcony for fresh air if needed. This would be great in the summer.
Review 43:Low pressure in shower and difficult to get the temperature right. Sink in room could have been cleaner, but the proprietor had kindly upgraded me free of charge to a bigger room and it may not have been prepared.
Review 44:Fair trade products. Good location. Very quiet. Very good value
Review 45:No heating.......tight owner never put heating on despite it being minus outside...unbelievable! Breakfast not included despite it being a B &.
Review 46:Clean basic room.
Review 47:We turned up for breakfast and there was no breakfast and no staff available to speak with. The number given to guests to ring in an emergency went straight to voicemail in every of the 12 times we called. After 30 mins of waiting we went to get our bags to check-out. When we returned, one staff had arrived and was getting breakfast ready. When we asked to be checked-out, he replied by asking how we were going to pay. No apologies, no explanation, no interest in how our stay had gone.., nothing! He even had the cheek to ask us for the full cost of our room, even though we didn't get the breakfast we paid for. When I insisted on a discount, he grudgingly offered one, and his attitude made that very clear. I'm absolutely puzzled how any business can expect to thrive, with such poor customer service.
Review 48:The hotel is based in a fairly central location.
Review 49:Separate toilet and bathroom down one flight of stairs; didn't feel very clean.
Review 50:Free tea, coffee and biscuits; TV; balcony; seafront view; bed quite comfy.
Review 51:A bit costly, £100 for 1 night, but it was a late booking so I suspect that may be the reason.
Review 52:Seaview location & room was very comfortable and clean.
Review 53:Dirty balcony. Bathroom far from the bedroom (on different floor) and had to be shared between a number of other guests. Toilet was located in shared bathroom so couldn't use it if other guests were in the shower. Loud music during breakfast which was located in the bar.
Review 54:The view from the bedroom, and the decor of the room. TV in room. Variety of breakfast menu with option to have either or both continental and English breakfast.
Review 55:Matresses kept sliding off the beds, disturbed sleep through running water from other rooms down the pipes through the levels.
Review 56:The owner was helpful but didn't see any other of the staff.
Review 57:Staff very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Breakfast excellent cooked fresh to order. Lovely guest house would definitely go back again
Review 58:Not good access if disabled or poor at walking
Review 59:the food was excellent and Helen and Simon were excellent hosts. The location was spot on. The guest house was very clean and tidy. Would recommend to anyone and I will be returning
Review 60:Small room Tiny bathroom Room very stuffy Pool of water on toilet seat from leak in bathroom ceiling Woken up by noisy plumbing from next door room Bath towels too small
Review 61:Location Comfortable Bed Lovely Breakfast
Review 62:the breakfast was nice but the waiter was a young boy who did not have a clue people was waiting 4 a table and he just letf all the crockery on the tables he needs retraning but other wise no problem.
Review 63:It was all ok had a good time room was clean and tidey
Review 64:Unfortunately the shower had very poor pressure but the building is victorian and was slightly difficult to get the temperature right.
Review 65:Staff and Owner (Helen) were lovely people and very accommodating. Breakfast was excellent and very fresh. Location wise it was nice to be close to the beach but not too close to the main strip. If we went back to Margate we would certainly use them again.
Review 66:The staff were lovely and couldn't be more helpful and the breakfast (I had the vegetarian option) was excellent. Very good value for the money and to those who have complained about the place I would say if you choose the cheapest but expect the best you may well be disappointed.
Review 67:Hot water tap in our bathroom sink did not work.
Review 68:Nice quiet location, close to lovely walks along the cliffs. Luckily a fair distance from Margate, which is not my favourite place. We wanted to visit Botany Bay and Deal. The Blues Grill provided and excellent meal at a very reasonable price. We had a beautiful sea view from our window.
Review 69:The stairs! But we were informed beforehand, but probably not best if travelling with little ones.
Review 70:Wow, the breakfast, the owners, the dinner everything but the stairs really! Location was fab, lovely views xxxx
Review 71:The owner Jason made me very welcome, and was happy to be flexible when my plans had to change. The room was clean, comfortable, and very good value.
Review 72:Extra charge imposed (not listed on booking.com terms and conditions) just for paying by credit card No bar or restaurant whilst visiting.
Review 73:Sea view
Review 74:Didn't even spend the night. Room and hotel very tired. Bar closed. Hole in bedroom wall. Toilet soiled.
Review 75:Not much
Review 76:Shower was either freezing cold or scalding hot!
Review 77:Stayed for one night, it was fine. 3 * so as expected.
