Reviews for Hôtel Gambetta
Review 1:There are too many steps if you are of limited mobility. There is a lift but it does not go straight to every floor. To get to our room we had to take the lift to floor 3 then walk down a flight. Even then there were more steps.
Review 2:Good location, helpful staff, good breakfast in pleasant dining room
Review 3:There were "half-floors": you could not go straight to all rooms from the elevator.
Review 4:Hotel situated along a lively pedestrian street but there was not too much noise in the room. I used Lianes 1 -bus from the airport (30-40 minutes) and the hotel was a few minutes walk from one stop. Near shops and restaurants, tram. Wifi was reliable. The breakfast was basic but very nice regarding the low price (7E). Fresh fruit, beverages, cereals, bread, yoghurt.
Review 5:Extremely small dark room in the middle floor next to the elevator, the window looking directly to the kitchen. Noisy in the morning but also in the evenings (as it was used as living room).
Review 6:Staff very friendly and willing to help.
Review 7:1. The hot water just dribbled. Not able to wash hair. 2. Parking was expensive 3. No elevator to first floor. Had to lug suitcases up.
Review 8:Location
Review 9:Noisy at night until midnight with trams and bin men driving down road and emptying bins!! Very small room and bathroom. No air con but ceiling fan - room very hot. No lift to first floor, or help with cases.
Review 10:Central location.
Review 11:The carpet and bed cover were not clean- many spots visible.
Review 12:The Hotel is located directly in the city centre close to the main attractions and shops. The staff is friendly and helpful with varying englisch skills.
Review 13:I have stayed in many cheap youth hostels in my time and all were cleaner than hotel gambetta. The carpet was so stained and dirty that we wore shoes at all times. The previous guest's dirty pyjamas and hygiene products were still in our room. When I informed the staff they said 'ok'. They were still there when we left after two days. The reasonable price is not worth the grubby conditions and lack of care from staff.
Review 14:The location of this hotel could not be better.
Review 15:Some street noise but minor
Review 16:Location close to city attractions and transport Staff were helpful, printed tickets for me and spoke easy french for me Wifi average, ok for calls
Review 17:The service was very basic. In the summer heat, a small fridge or a soda machine in the entrance would have been welcome. WiFi connection was sketchy during the busy hours in the evening.
Review 18:The river, the theatre, Rue Sainte Catherine, the amphitheatre, the Jardin Public, the small places in the old quarters with the restaurants, the big Auchan supermarket - you can walk everywhere within 10 minutes. It was clean and the staff was friendly.
Review 19:Bath didint retain water, room 16 had a fugly smell if you opened the window (rotren wood outside) no air conditioner, though it has a vent. Breakfast was expensive for what it was, milk was acid (rotten) most people left it.
Review 20:Great location, cleanliness, comfortable.
Review 21:WiFi was almost impossible to connnect to, rooms are very compact if you wanted a long stay.
Review 22:Friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable. Perfect for a short break or business trip.
Review 23:the location is so hard to find, it cannot be identify by the GPS , because it is in the inner side, there is no parking, parking is 15 minutes from the hotel and it is impossible, specially if you have several luggages to carry. We are looking for 4 hrs to find the hotel, its a waste of gas and time and so disappointing.
Review 24:The hotel has a lift, however it only oprates between the 1st and 3rd floors so if you are on the 4th. floor like we were there`s stairs to cope with - a bit of a struggle with cases. 30deg C whilst we wre there: no aircon so a bit uncomfortable sleeping, although the large floor standing fan helped.
Review 25:Very well situated. Quiet location in pedestrianised street. 10 minutes walk from the riverside, surrounded by restaurants, cafes and bars. Helpful staff. We travelled by train and used the bus to get to the hotel; takes about 20 minutes or so. Good value.
Review 26:I arrived at midday. I was told I could not check in until 2pm, which was not a problem. I returned at 2pm and checked in, received my key and went to my room. The room was still not ready. I had to wait out in the corridor for 30 minutes until the cleaning staff were finished.
Review 27:This hotel is perfectly situated in the middle of the historic City Centre. Noise is not an issue. The staff are helpful. The hotel is modern and freshly decorated in a contemporary style.
Review 28:Room not ready for requested check in time, had to wait 2.5hrs after very long journey.
Review 29:Excellent location, rooms small but very clean. Staff very friendly (dont speak english as advertisedbut realised we knew more French than we thought)
Review 30:Parking at a distance from hotel. Some staff did not seem as pleasant as others. WiFi difficult to use.
Review 31:Parking at reduced rate, thanks to hotel coupon. Staff was willing to hold our bags while we went off for a day of exploration.
Review 32:Slightly run down bathroom and too little light in the rooms.
Review 33:It's for people on a budget but located beautifully in the heart of Bordeaux. We were travelling with a group of young people aged 18 to 20 and the hotel suited all of us perfectly for one night. Very nice staff at the front desk, helpful and friendly.
Review 34:Room key was left at an empty front desk one of the nights we stayed although the front desk was meant to have 24 hour cover. Anyone could have taken the key and the security of room could very easily been compromised.
Review 35:Location was excellent
Review 36:Room was rather dingy. Could do with a fresh coat of paint and freshening up,
Review 37:Location is excellent for city centre and lots of restaurants nearby. Reception staff very helpful.
Review 38:It could have done with some basic refreshments, like coffee or tea in the room.
Review 39:The hotel is really conveniently located and the facilities were useful. Although our room was small, it was very clean and the bed was really comfortable!
Review 40:Actually, price of parking for car is not included meaning at least 15€ more even if the hotel refund 10€ in case of you stay more than 24h, at least 2 nights.
Review 41:Location.
Review 42:Nothing.
Review 43:Location and convenience to the centre of Bordeaux.
Review 44:Not clean.. Probably expensive for what it offers

Review 51:Location was perfect, everything was on a walking distance. The guy in the reception was very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend.
Review 52:The hotel is just in the historical center. It's very good.
Review 53:room is bit old. outside is loud, so window cannot be opened.
Review 54:location, decent price
Review 55:Central location Great staff Quiet street Comfortable room though small
Review 56:parking: 60 euros for 2 nights because they send us to a false parking
Review 57:good place
Review 58:Room too small especially bathroom/toilet. No lift from ground floor
Review 59:The central location in the old town.
Review 60:Not super cleaned bedroom
Review 61:Comfortable bed
Review 62:No air con, too many stairs, rooms and bathrooms too small for any degree of comfort
Review 63:The location is excellent
Review 64:Wifi was terrible. Do not expect reliable connection with fast speeds.
Review 65:Great staff, rooms are cleaned every day.
Review 66:No tea /coffee facilities in room
Review 67:Great location, great price/quality
Review 68:Street is pretty noisy and walls are thin!
Review 69:Great central location.
Review 70:The location is extremely convenient for both sightseeing and shopping in Bordeaux. The Bordeaux tramway is very close as well.
Review 71:The lift starts after one flight of stairs, then up and down small flights of stairs.
Review 72:great location and the staff were very helpful.
Review 73:Location is great Purfect for long weekend holiday Don't expect a lot for this price
Review 74:Lift only to 3rd floor. Bed had a dip in it.
Review 75:Location was excellent with lots of good restaurants and close to transport. Room was perfectly clean.
Review 76:nothing!
Review 77:kind friendly staff the room position in the city, perfect quiet at night
Review 78:The bed was uncomfortable with a dip in the middle and a limp pillow.
Review 79:Location was good.
Review 80:My only critiisim is I was under the impression the car park was nearer it was quite a nightmare taking our luggage across Gambetta
Review 81:İn the city center. You can reach everywhere easily.
Review 82:Small rooms with smallest Windows
Review 83:Location 24h reception
Review 84:Calm, peaceful hotel. Very clean and tidy. Fresh flowers in Reception area. Helpful smiling staff Ideally situated for shops and Restaurants
Review 85:Excellent location Good wifi connection Fair price
Review 86:Things running out at breakfast
Review 87:location
Review 88:Central location. Very quiet rooms. Very good breakfast. Very helpful staff.
Review 89:That breakfast was so expensive.
Review 90:The fan, the tv and the location.
Review 91:Location. Value.
Review 92:As this hotel was the start of our honeymoon we felt a bit disseapointed it seemed unclean by the first glimpse of it.
Review 93:The location was perfect
Review 94:great welcome at a very late hour!
Review 95:Hotel would not hold luggage beyond checkout.
Review 96:Expensive breakfast. Wifi a bit bad, logging out from time to time. A bit loud in the corridor.
Review 97:Close to the tram station.
Review 98:Small bathroom, cramped bed and no tea or coffee or kettle.
Review 99:Central but very noisy very poor sleep.
Review 100:Tiny, inadequate bathroom Noisy fan Towels not changed
Review 101:Good location Adequate breakfast
Review 102:Excellent and friendly staff. central location.
Review 103:nothing
Review 104:in main pedestrian street, rooms on many floors van on roof instead of a air-co, what i like
Review 105:Room and bathroom were small BUT in contrast to great value price for area and relative comfort this was not an issue.
Review 106:Great location, friendly staff, on main shopping road but we had a back room facing courtyard so no noise. Value for money, probably ideal for a one night stay on way from or too airport before heading on.
Review 107:With being in the centre of town it was a bit noisy with the windows open, but the fan does the job with the window closed. The nearest parking is quite expensive (19€ per day) but very secure
Review 108:Would recommend to anyone. Excellent location, cheap, and comfortable. Great fan to keep you cool
Review 109:Soundproofing in the room not very good, but not a big problem.
Review 110:Very close to the centre of town. Good public transport, plenty of good restaurants close by.
Review 111:Very clean. Warm (if you turn on the electric battery). Room has ll necessities. The location is perfect. Close to 2 tram stations, but you can also walk to any location in the city center within 15 minutes. Bottom line, excellent value for money.
Review 112:A bit worried about security as you had to leave your keys at reception - upon return, anyone can ask for any room key (the staff at the desk changed every few hours so not sure they would recognize the guests), and once, no one was at the desk so we just took our own key off the rack. No secure luggage storage before/after check-in, you just leave it in the upstairs lounge accessible to everyone. Rooms facing the street can get noisy in the evenings due to its location on a main street leading to bars/restaurants. Internet was a bit spotty.
Review 113:Hotel was no frills, but cheap, clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. Excellent and very convenient location right in the heart of old Bordeaux, walking distance to most of the major sights, dining, and shopping options. Just around the corner is a tram stop.
Review 114:The room is very small, even the bed is narrow. The sound isolation to the neighbor rooms is poor..
Review 115:Very friendly staff, clean, in the very heart of the city at acceptable rate. Very good for a short visit.
Review 116:Size of room & bathroom small. Shower far too high.Curtains would not close as only had a few hooks to keep them up and they were too high to reach. You had to get out of bed to turn off the bedside light. We had already stayed in Bordeaux the night before and decided another night last minute and booked this €69 exc breakfast (should of been €80)never would we of paid that. The hotel we stayed the night before was €75 inc breakfast and was a beautiful place in good location too.
Review 117:The staff weren't that friendly and I was not offered much of a welcome or a map. They didn't seem at all interested as to why I had come to Bordeaux.
Review 118:The location was great which is in the city centre and close to lots of restaurants. It is a efficiently run hotel. It feels like it is more for business people and the French than for tourists. I did not try breakfast.
Review 119:I was in a single room, but the bathroom was cramped and could be very tight for any above average sized guests.
Review 120:Superb location; inside the pedestrian area but within 100 metres of the very comprehensive city bus/tram system. As a 2-star hotel, the facilities are a little limited but if one is seeking a "room for the night" it is ideal and good value.
Review 121:I booked a room for one night for a friend. She had hardly any sleep because the room looked on to Rue Porte Dijeaux and there was noise all night. I will not recommend the hotel again.
Review 122:To access wifi you have to put in a username and password but the internet service keeps disconnecting so you have to keep repeating this. In the evening when i tried to connect it asked me to log in to Facebook and i am not a member and don't want to be so could not access the internet. Will not stay at this hotel again for this reason.
Review 123:Room was tiny, but with such a great location and price, youcan't grumble.
Review 124:Brilliant location - right in the heart of the city with a tram stopwithin 20 yards round the corner. Staff were great. Good price.
Review 125:Too many staires but there is nothing anyone can do about that in an old building
Review 126:A very nice hotel, convenient for the old city. The staff were all very pleasant
