Reviews for Smiths Court Hotel
Review 1:Close to the sea side and other important locations. Facilities and services were resonably good. Free car parking on site and on the road. They have their own restaurant within the hotel.
Review 2:The staff were lovely. We had a lovely room with a fantastic sea view. The bed was big and comfortable. We had a delicious full English breakfast and they could cater for my husband who is ceoliac. Would definitely return to this hotel.
Review 3:First impressions weren't great as we arrived at 1230 and the main entrance leading to the front door going up the steps was full of rubbish and fag butts.
Review 4:The executive room that we paid an extra £10 for due to our room not being ready on arrival was pleasant.
Review 5:Tiny room stank of drains or something awful. Reception staff surly after we said we didn't want an upgrade which would have cost us more
Review 6:breakfast and waitress
Review 7:The bed was not very comfortable and the location is a bit far from the old town.
Review 8:the staff was very friendly and kind. The hotel provides facilities to the pets and the rooms are well equiped
Review 9:On our arrival the room was cold and we were advised that the heating was not due on until 16:30 hours The main foyer/lounge was also unheated. The restaurant was shut due to an event taking places, we were not told about this at the time of booking.
Review 10:The staff were excellant
Review 11:That a few things were broken or not working, and that we had to inform the staff. Although once notified they did fix the problems straight away
Review 12:The staff were extremely helpful, the rooms were lively and clean
Review 13:First room we were put in was terrible . I wouldn't wash my dog in the bath in the room ... Silicone seal for bath mouldy and grout brown and rusty marks . Bedside table had cup stains . We spoke to reception who moved us to a executive room which was much better . Massive bathroom but it was a shame the shower had no water pressure . The bath was a jacuzzi bath but you needed to start the bath running about a week before you got in it so there was enough water in it .
Review 14:Breakfast was fine couldn't fault the food. Staff ok .
Review 15:Hotel is very tired and dated. Pencil marks on walls, scuff marks everywhere, holes in duvet cover. Should close for 6 months for a thorough redecoration. Worst bit - countless colonies of white MOULD on the inside of the bottle of water when we had dinner in the restaurant.
Review 16:That it was only for one night!
Review 17:The bedroom was small and the room was in need of refurbishment. All a bit tired looking. The bedroom was clean. However the bathroom tiles needed sorting out! Black grouting is not good. A good bleaching would help.
Review 18:The hotel was convenient in relation to the days activities. The staff were great, and public areas (orangery ) were very nice. Good car parking.
Review 19:Shower over the bath couldn't make up its mind whether to scald or freeze you. The tiling looked a bit grubby and the decor generally was dated.
Review 20:Friendly staff, sea view, hearty breakfast, comfortable bed
Review 21:Wi-fi signal quite weak in our room.
Review 22:Really friendly place. Were given a free upgrade to a huge room! Super dog friendly. Even provided a dog bed and bowls!
Review 23:The decor could be better in our room. Was tired and dated.Several cracks in wall in 2nd bedtoom which was noted in questionare.
Review 24:Staff very welcoming. Carpark at rear. Lovely food. Lift. Good size family room.
Review 25:Room was tired, towels were not changed daily. Bed was not very comfortable and this was an executive room?
Review 26:Friendly Staff and Breakfast was really nice
Review 27:Wi-Fi was a bit temperamental while I was there.
Review 28:On main road but no noise from traffic in public rooms or bedrooms. Lovely view overlooking open space and then sea view. Very good breakfast. Car park or parking on road.
Review 29:I think this hotel has not yet come into the 21st century nor realised that people's standards have rise with the capacity to review on line. We were welcomed by blank faces-'we have no one down of that name', we were traced. Then the lift didn't work-well it did but it didn't. It was to be repaired. I am mobility impaired so I schlepped up steep stairs-no apology or offer to carry my bag. My friends changed their rooms. The carpet in my room was from the 1950s. The sea view was obscured by a vast dressing table with stains on-also out of the ark. The mattress was way too soft. The bathroom had a bath/shower. The shower curtain was fixed making getting in and out and turning on taps difficult. A notice said it had been fixed until a replacement arrived. Well-this year?next year? The bath ran at a good temperature but the shower-however far one turned on the hot tap, was cold. We had to pay as we checked in. The wine by the glass at the bar came from little bottle. The white wine was pretty awful.
Review 30:The sea view and the Orangery where we had breakfast-which was very good. The room itself was light and airy.
Review 31:Delay in towels didn't put my bag in room did say would and view
Review 32:Having a lift and 24 hour porter and staff let me leave my bag as I was early meant didn't have to carry it around for five hours as I was going to football match.
Review 33:No fridge. No fan...it was very hot in the room. We should have been told that a wedding reception was on the Saturday night...ALL NIGHT and the free entertainment was fights, police and noise.
Review 34:the staff were amazing...nothing was too much trouble. We had a wonderful view.
Review 35:I don't like cool in the evening and in the morning 6 Am And don't understand why and what is been ?
Review 36:I like to see ocean , can be sauna at hotel ...
Review 37:Dinner in the evening was a miserable experience. I had to wait 45 minutes for the main course, an undercooked flat soufflé. My partner's lamb was half gristle.
Review 38:The location was a bit of a walk from the main sea front (about 20 minutes), not a problem for us but could be an issue for others. Decor was a little dated & the shower quite weak.
Review 39:Comfy bed, free wifi, free parking & good breakfast. Polite & friendly staff.
Review 40:Outside steps are dangerous when wet. There is a sign but steps could do with better grip.
Review 41:Room was very big with kitchen facilities and great view. Well worth the money
Review 42:Room rather small and dated decor. Breakfast was very slow but the food was good. Bar and general reception area was unattractive.
Review 43:Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Review 44:The dust in the room made it look like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Also (and rather dangerous) the carpet trim was insecure. Didn't feel too safe with the poor old door lock.
Review 45:Had a pool table. parking spaces.
Review 46:Hotel a bit of a maze, so more signs with directions on (to reception, to stairs etc.) would help.
Review 47:Lovely, comfortable hotel. Great value for money. On my arrival, was upgraded to a double room at no extra cost (don't know why!). Bed very comfortable, nice spacious room. Staff friendly and helpful, even after midnight. Free parking. Breakfast good - served until ten and a wide variety on offer. Wish I had been staying another night so I could have tried the kippers!
Review 48:Room was very hot - the sun shines in all day and that is why. It's also very bright in the morning. Would benefit from having blackout curtains and better ventilation.
Review 49:Very comfy bed. Clean. Friendly staff. Good facilities in room.
Review 50:Firstly there was a wedding reception on which I was not told about inadvance so bar was closed off and public areas taken over (however amember of staff did get me a free pint to drink in my box room :-/Thank you whoever you were), and no sleep til gone 2am. Room was dated, grubby, window broke, more wardrobe than anything and tiny. Breakfasttook an hour and 10 minutes and on checkout I waited more than 10minutes as I wanted a receipt but nobody even appeared at reception (andno there wasn't a bell I could see). I found this place wascompletely out of it's depth. Can't fault the staff as they wereall working hard and managed to keep smiling but management really doneed a kick up the backside and even just a lick of paint would drag therooms out of the 80'S. Public areas ok, rooms no.
Review 51:Very friendly staff and nice fresh breakfast.
Review 52:service at breakfast wasn't great (both slow and erratic) plus needed to ask for 'extras' such as ketchup and Marmite which could be laid out as standard. Not necessarily a problem with hotel itself as such but had considerable difficulty amending this booking, which took several attempts, four or five emails and a phonecall just to cancel one room for one night.
Review 53:Margate itself, and the sea view
Review 54:Even though the hotel operates a strict no smoking policy, strong, stale cigarette smoke could still be smelt when climbing the stairs to the bedrooms.
Review 55:I asked for a quiet room and got one, great nights sleep which was important as needed to be up early to conduct a full days training. Even the gulls nesting under my window were well behaved and I think I woke them up!
Review 56:The hotel generally was in a terrible state of decoration, the room was straight out of the 1970's and reminded me of a bedsit. checked in as usual and paid for room, went to room and was disappointed. Went out for the evening and decided I would rather drive home than stay - it really is awful
Review 57:Sea view
Review 58:Very dated, felt like I had gone back in time to the 1970's.. Shocking decoration in the hallways & room.. Doors were scratched & marked & the lock in our door was hard to unlock & lock.. The pictures on Hotel web site were very misleading & no way did this toon warrant a £108.00 tariff .. Very disappointing & I have made a formal complaint by email to you & the hotel directly..
Review 59:Breakfast, bed was comfortable.. Staff were friendly..
Review 60:The room was perfectly adequate for what we expected but decor was looking a bit tired.
Review 61:The breakfast was excellent and was quickly prepared. The staff were great and nothing was too much trouble.
Review 62:Very flat pillows , terrible nights sleep but that's personal preference. The bed was clean fresh and good mattress.
Review 63:Breakfast was perfect and delivered to the room. Parking on site for free Seaview to watch the sunset
Review 64:Initially the booking was wrong as the sea view requested was not given. This was rectified but the toilet didn't flush so a different room was then found but without a sea view. This was ok but the shower was faulty. However the price was adjusted and we received a free bottle of wine with dinner as compensation.
Review 65:Staff were polite and very helpful. Food (dinner & breakfast) very good. Sea view lovely.
Review 66:Curtains need a black out lining as I was woken at 5-15 because it was so light outside.
Review 67:Comfortable bed and view from room was great, staff were friendly.
Review 68:The staff were very friendly and helpful.. Excellent value for money. Thanet is such a brilliant area - I will definitely go back. Small suggestion - I would have been very happy not having fresh towels on the second day - so adding that as an option would be good.
Review 69:The breakfast was very average and there were hardly any cooked options for vegetarians.
Review 70:The bed was really comfortable and we had a big balcony overlooking the sea.
Review 71:The walk to the town was long but that is of now fault to the hotel as it's was what I booked as I like the look of hotel and that did not disapoint.
Review 72:Hotel was friendly Breakfast excellent Room was spacious and clean. Great night sleep in the large comfy bed.
Review 73:Rooms a bit tired and dated, but were clean and comfortable enough so for a one night stay it didn't matter.
Review 74:Friendly staff, free car-parking, free wi-fi, nice light and airy public spaces with sea views. Although I didn't eat at the hotel, the menu looked good and reasonably priced.
Review 75:Breakfast could be improved, and a bit more of it !
Review 76:The staff are so lovely and remembered us from before We stayed in a different room but was lovely clean and ok
Review 77:The mattress was too soft and lumpy, we were unable to sleep due to being uncomfortable, disappointing especially as we paid for an upgrade.
Review 78:Upgraded for a sea view which was nice has the sun came out and saw ships in sea at night. Upgraded to executive room which was spacious and included kitchenette.
Review 79:Lovely warm, light, affordable, room with beautiful breakfast room overlooking the sea and friendly helpful staff. Walking distance from town and very easy to find.
Review 80:Mattress was a little bit soft for me, but that is being very picky. Room was much better than I expected for the price.
Review 81:Room was very clean and tidy. Very convenient private car park behind hotel. Staff were all excellent. Early breakfast no problem. Excellent value for money.
Review 82:Maze of narrow corridors with floors constantly changing levels. Easy to get lost.
Review 83:Free room upgrade. Staff very friendly, good sized room and bathroom, full English breakfast. Hotel open areas quite spacious. Good value for money. Free car park. Close to conference centre and not too far from beech.
Review 84:I only stayed on a Sunday night, short walk to Winter Gardens, excellent staff and breakfast, nice little single room with large bathroom, very good value for money. Would certainly use again if in area.
Review 85:Friendly helpful staff, given free upgrade to sea view before arrival & upgrade to double room at nominal charge. Clean, comfortable room, excellent breakfast with local produce/homemade marmalade in lovely restaurant. Will recommend to Margate visitors. :-)
Review 86:We had a lovely spacious room at the back of the hotel, decor was soothing and comfortable. We enjoyed room service one night and were delighted! Restaurant quality rack of lamb! Absolutely excellent!!!! Best meal we have had while away, in a very long time! And best room service ever! Thank you! We will be back...
Review 87:My only negative: Food service could have been better. I waited 30min for an evening bar food order (they were not busy) and breakfast service was uncoordinated as I was asked for orders twice by different people but never offered toast.
Review 88:I stayed only one night as I was attending a meeting and was upgraded to a sea view double at no extra cost. The room was clean, but furniture a little dated; the staff were very friendly and the breakfast delicious. Situated on the seafront just out of the main town, I would certainly return to this family run hotel if in the area again.
Review 89:The public areas are more than well used and while clean definitely in need of refurbishment. The "honeymoon suite" was ok in terms of decor but the shower room is small and poorly refurbished. furniture is "tired"
Review 90:Reception staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 91:Had to ask receptionist to help me with heating in the room. There was a trick needed to make it work, very old heater.
Review 92:Staff very friendly and view to the sea
Review 93:The lift did not work in two occasions and also the shower could have had a bit more power.
Review 94:We liked how easy was to find , the staff was very friendly and the room very spacious - we got upgraded to a sea view and it was lovely
Review 95:The food was very good and I told the Manager that the outside photo in their ad really lets it down. I was really well surprised how good the outside looks.
Review 96:Washroom cramped - Nowhere to put soap in the shower - Impossible to open soap sachets without scissors - Unable to put toothbrushes on charge without having light and fan working - Milk vials and biscuits not replenished for day two.
Review 97:Food was excellent. Staff ditto. Washing facilities cramped, Impossible to open liquid soap sachets without scissors
Review 98:Breakfast serving staff and chefs are very nice, but were overwhelmed by lots of guests, so not everything ordered was served.
Review 99:Friendly, nice location by the seaside.
Review 100:Shower head didn't work properly so had to have a hand held shower. Buffet breakfast choice was a bit sparse - two bowls of prunes and grapefruit with no communal serving spoons. No vegetarian option for the cooked breakfast.
Review 101:Light and comfortable room with bay window and sea view. Dining room was well decorated and welcoming. Good position on cliff with 15 minute walk into Margate centre.
Review 102:Nothing
Review 103:Friendly hotel with big, comfortable bed room. Good location Central but quiet found the staff both friendly and helpful. Recommended -- great value for money.
Review 104:Location is in the part of Margate, which is known for frequent police visits - and it tells. Daily walk to/from bus was unpleasant.
Review 105:Staff is excellent - kind, fast and reliable. Omelettes for breakfast are a treat, and for this price you will not find room with seaview
Review 106:10 minute walk to main town although there are regular buses
Review 107:good views. Staff very helpful. Food very good, room clean and tidy. Good WiFi access. Building warm.
Review 108:Due to a wedding we had not been advised about, the kitchen staff were not able to provide any sort of hot or cold snack on Saturday afternoon. My husband had to go out and buy from a minimart. Had we wanted to eat in the well advertised restaurant on Saturday night, we couldn't.
Review 109:On the whole, reception staff were very friendly as were the restaurant staff. Nice room with a sea view.
Review 110:The main reception room, lift, corridors need to be modernised further. The room was small, and still felt dated, with the shower room that wasn't appealing.
Review 111:The location was good for the walk to the town, and we had a lovely sea view. The Staff were friendly, and it was very good value with the breakfast included, which again was very good.
Review 112:For a birthday treat we booked an executive room with a sea view. The room was wonderfully spacious with a separate 'lounge' area to read, relax and watch TV. We got a major surprise when we opened the 'wardrobe' door to look for the tea-making facilities - and discovered a fully fitted kitchen with fridge, cooker and sink!
Review 113:The bathroom, while modern and perfectly functional, was very small. And it was impossible to wash your face at the hand-basin as the soap dish stuck out at just the wrong level.
Review 114:Very warm friendly welcome and my choice of room. Exceptionally comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast with good hot tea, and they must spend a fortune on laundry as every table had a double layer of gleaming clean white cloths.
Review 115:The decor in reception is brown and gloomy.
Review 116:I had a small double with a sea view as a solo traveller which had all I needed. The receptionist was friendly and a late supper provided and a full breakfast next morning.
Review 117:Choice of heating was basically full blast with super-dry air and no function at all, thankfully it wasn't very cold during our stay so we could leave it turned off.
Review 118:Clean and lovely-looking, well-equipped bathroom, nice sea view, comfy bed, great TV (wall-mounted for comfortable viewing), nice kitchen, beautiful restaurant, quality breakfast, very friendly and helpful staff. Free wi-fi, although merely advertised for public areas, worked just fine in the room (3rd floor), with a few minor hiccups. Pleasant surprise.
Review 119:Minute shower, ensuite a bit pokey, grouting needs improving - toilet needed vigourous flushing, whb small.
Review 120:Privacy, quietness, comfort, easy parking, helpfulness & willingness of staff, and, at this time of year, choice of tables in the restaurant.
Review 121:There was not really anything to fault. The shower drained pretty slowly but not an issue we mentioned it as we left and the lady politely said she will make sure maintenance sort it!
Review 122:We were attending an event at Winter Gardens so location was ideal! On arrival we were welcomed by a lovely receptionsist who was very friendly and welcoming. We were bumped up to the honeymoon suite for £10 extra was even more amazing. We had a fantastic stay, breakfast was lovely with great variety, Omelette was really tasty! Overall great stay and would recommend and stay again.
Review 123:Restaurant was closed during our stay so did not enjoy dinner
Review 124:Excellent hotel, nice staff. Very comfortable and clean. Quiet location (we had a sea view room facing the street bu twas no noise). Had good rest and would definitely come back. Very delicious breakfast
Review 125:Shower not enough head of water on top floor, didn't do the job. Heating outside of room occupant's control. A nuisance having to call reception to be able to switch it on particularly as it was December. Not sure if this is to save money but not very customer friendly.
Review 126:Great location and sea view was a real bonus. Lovely breakfast room, beautifully furnished and newly decorated and modern.
Review 127:Had sound of a noisy thrumming fan with knackered bearings running all night. More annoying than show stopper.
Review 128:As mentioned, staff, facilities and location good - small room, big bathroom, sea view, and staff responded well to a complaint.
Review 129:Family room was 2 rooms with hefty autoclose doors - difficult to keep open, little fingers waiting to get trapped Kids room had hard tiled floor Electric heaters got stupidly hot to the touch Not really suitable for younger kids Tiny bathroom
Review 130:Good breakfast
Review 131:The room was immaculate, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The facilities were fantastic and easily accessible. The food was delicious. Definitely going to stay there again. A+++
Review 132:they should have told me what time breakfast finished so I didnt miss it, it was not mention in the information in the room or at reception
Review 133:the room was good for the price
Review 134:Tacky four poster bed dominating the room, room layout, small bath chipped enamel rust round shower door small sachtes of Shampoo and bath gel slippery steps up to the enterence of the hotel.
Review 135:Not much to comment here as we only slept in room one night. The single room was rather small. Good Sunday morning breakfast
Review 136:Really did not like Margate. Everywhere was run down, rubbish everywhere. Its such a shame as with some TLC it could be transformed into the elegant place it once was. The small old town was nice and the winter gardens are very nice but thats really all.
Review 137:The hotel was lovely. We had a good view out to sea. The breakfast was nice. The receptionist was very nice and helpful. A lovely comfy large bed.
Review 138:Comic arrangement of iron, ironing board and hair dryer. Very Heath Robinson, very ugly to look at, easy to resolve and make room nicer. A case for a pleasing environment over functionality.
Review 139:Upgrade.
