Reviews for Merchants Manor

Review 1:The weather wasn't what I ordered :) Didn't see the lovely Hannah AGAIN! (though all the people I did see were lovely)

Review 2:Warm welcome, nice spacious comfortable room, really outstanding fillet steak for dinner and wonderful full Cornish breakfast

Review 3:breakfast I would prefere the lovely bread served at dinner

Review 4:I always enjoy my stay at MM. Traveling alone to see my son at uni I always feel very comfortable and relaxed, and look forward to returning. I love waking seeing the sea and hearing the gulls. Its treat for me. The staff are very kind and helpful.

Review 5:First room we were given was a little disappointing but the team were great and moved us to a fantastic room with great sea view.

Review 6:Very helpful and friendly staff. Really made us feel special. Fantastic breakfast. Brilliant pool and facilities nearly completed! Nothing was too much trouble.

Review 7:All was good!

Review 8:Lovely very friendly helpful staff. The new look pool was wonderful an excellent improvement. If you enjoy a good swim this is a large pool with lots of room for a decent swim!

Review 9:We had two comfy chairs and two wooden chairs in our first room but only two wooden chairs in our replacement room. Why is furniture not standardised?

Review 10:The staff attitude was excellent at all times especially when we had to change rooms because of a plumbing problem.

Review 11:Staff very friendly and helpful. Though pool not quite finished they did open it for Christmas day. 10 to 15 minute slow walk to sandy beach, town centre and harbour.

Review 12:Couldn't park due to function (second time that's happened to me) Didn't see the lovely Hannah

Review 13:Great welcome, lovely room, excellent breakfast

Review 14:Nothing. it will be better when the swimming pool reopens next year.

Review 15:This was our third stay and it was as usual lovely. Helpful staff, great breakfast and beautiful decor . The big chains could learn a lot from this hotel .

Review 16:The staff were lovely; friendly, welcoming, positive and effective. Room was bright, roomy and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Hannah in reception was absolutely brilliant; helpful, efficient and effective, friendly and gorgeous.

Review 17:The cooked breakfast was lovely but just a bit greasy for me.

Review 18:Great friendly helpful staff. Felt very welcome on arrival. Our third visit, such a great position for walking to the town and beach areas. Breakfast great choice.

Review 19:Not bad but pool / sauna closed to refurb - wasn't apparent when I booked and as I have another stay booked and it wasn't apprenticed when I booked this either, bit disappointing.

Review 20:Arrived after midnight: night Porter Daniel (Danny?) could not have been more helpful, checked me in, need the bar. Fab breakfast, lovely staff.

Review 21:We were very late arriving however the night staff were so helpful, making a lovely hot chocolate for me and a pint for my husband. Breakfast is also fantastic value for money.

Review 22:Would have preferred a room not on the ground floor and next to the gym entrance - door's banging from very early in the morning.

Review 23:great friendly staff who are really helpful. good breakfast and nice hotel in a good location.

Review 24:The ease of booking friendly staff and good food. Comfortable and quiet room Nice to be able to have a meal and good bar with nice sitting room available.

Review 25:High price for a sandwich, small breakfast, the bedroom was quite tatty and all painted in a gloomy grey

Review 26:Pleasant bar and lounge area, barman very helpful. Bathroom nicely fitted.

Review 27:My Room was very 80's although comfy bed. I understand that the rooms are being upgraded. It was clean just a little outdated.

Review 28:The restaurant offers amazing service and good value.

Review 29:Shower could have been a bit more powerful, more a drizzle than a shower!

Review 30:Staff were lovely , room was big and comfortable , fab little sauna and good size pool, good food and drink , great lounge area. Good toiletries on bathroom .

Review 31:The hotel was full and we were given a room at the rear in the same section as the swimming pool. It was hot and humid with no fan or airconditioning, so the room was very hot, the carpet was an indoor outdoor seagrass kind of floor covering and the furniture looked as if it had been cobbled together. The bed had no bed head. I suspect the room was in the process of being renovated but they quickly made it suitable for a 2 night stay. The bathroom was nicely renovated.

Review 32:the common areas of the hotel were very nice, good parking and within walking distance of Falmouth

Review 33:Water pressure poor in the shower; reading through other reviews this seems to be an overall problem. Changing area in the pool could probably do with an upgrade.

Review 34:Friendly and helpful staff. The bed was amazingly comfortable, and I arrived with a bad back so I was delighted to get a good night's sleep. The complimentary toiletries were replenished daily, which was lovely. Breakfasts were great and the staff made an effort to remember what we liked and why we were visiting Falmouth; for my daughter's graduation. The hotel is 10 minutes walk away from where the ceremonies are held, by the way. Large and comfortable lounges and a good selection of newspapers.

Review 35:Hardly any water coming from shower. Only one of us got tea during breakfast, asked twice for more, it never came. Also a lot of screaming children in hallway kept waking us up between 11pm and 1 am, there was a wedding going and apparently we were out of luck to be there that evening.

Review 36:Room size, very clean as well.

Review 37:That our well behaved little dog couldn't sit with us in the library for an evening drink and I had to keep going upstairs to check him.

Review 38:Staff friendly. Bed comfortable. Breakfast tasty.

Review 39:Nothing everything was perfect

Review 40:From the moment we arrived at the Manor House until we left it was amazing and I couldn't find one negative about my experience thanks to all the staff and management

Review 41:The spa needs updating, they need a sauna and some loungers to relax on.

Review 42:The staff were helpful and the location was really good too, I didn't like my breakfast and the staff were more then happy to change it.

Review 43:I was in a small single room at the very top of the hotel with very little space to put my suitcase, and had to keep moving it to access either the door or the bathroom. Facilities in the room were, however, excellent - iron and ironing board, tea and coffee making and also a good hair dryer.

Review 44:The location of the hotel was excellent and the communal rooms were beautifully decorated and comfortable, with lots of pictures of Falmouth in the past. Breakfast offered a good choice in very pleasant surroundings.

Review 45:Single bed was too small. I am a 6'1" male. The window in the room does not fully open which made the room quite warm at night.

Review 46:Staff, location, cleanliness, breakfast.

Review 47:It's exactly like you would expect out of an old manner. Huge bathroom, old cast iron,Victorian style tub. Creapy red chandeliers. Great place beautiful grounds, excellent staff.

Review 48:Bathroom was okay but could be improved. Could use a seagulls scarer as they were noisy. A little noisy in the hall way to pool and gym mornings

Review 49:The staff very cheerfully and helpfully Hotel has character with a contemporary decor Food excellent and well presented very good chef.

Review 50:That the walk in shower had nothing to put your shower and hair washing bottles in the shower no lift

Review 51:The general friendlyness of all the staff they were all very helpful in almost every way

Review 52:Long wait for tea/coffee at breakfast. Room wasn't very clean (hair still in the bath, yuk). Room decor was dated.

Review 53:Great newly refurbished gym and a nice indoor pool. Communal areas decorated to a high standard and very attractive. Breakfast included fresh croissants, cheese and salami as well as all you would normally expect.

Review 54:The carpet is a sisal type in the bedroom and uncomfortable on bare feet.

Review 55:Staff excellent and food very good but not cheap except for Sunday dinner menu which was excellent value for money

Review 56:However I did report our shower wasn't operating correctly twice and still it wasn't fixed after being told it would be twice. It was difficult showering under a dribble to nothing bit of water. Dissapointed

Review 57:Facilties were very good and the hotel was overall very nice throughout.

Review 58:Would have liked a view

Review 59:Lovely old building being beautifully restored. Has many facilities. Great eating areas. Free convenient safe parking. Falmouth also is a great place to visit.

Review 60:Kettle missing from room, telephone didn't work, shower very low pressure, no bin liners in bins.

Review 61:Very comfortable bed, delicious breakfast and friendly, helpful staff. Excellent facilities.

Review 62:We arrived at the same time as a large wedding party and bride so we had to wait in the car park for 20 minutes so we didn't get in the way of wedding photos. Wedding party took up all communal areas of the hotel so we we'rent able to relax at the bar etc and felt pushed out as if we were in the way. We had a dark dingy room that smelt of damp. We didn't have bedside table lamps and there was no decor in the room so it wasn't very welcoming. Our room was next to the gym so we were woken in the mornings by the slamming doors and noisy people as there was no sound proofing.

Review 63:Location and friendly staff on reception

Review 64:Rather boisterous wedding reception on the same night - made for an interesting soundtrack to put evening drinks. Couldn't really hear them in our room though so was fine as we didn't spend loads of time in the hotel.

Review 65:Beautiful bar area, friendly staff and good breakfast

Review 66:Hotel was quiet and comfortable. It is in a very good location and was easy to find. There is a beach within walking distance and the centre of town just a short ride away.

Review 67:woken EVERY morning at 6.00-6.30am with constant loud banging of gym door which is open to non residents. room very dark.

Review 68:staff friendly & helpful , breakfasts & evening meals very nice.

Review 69:We had a wonderful stay in a beautiful room with amazing views and every member of staff we encountered couldn't have been more pleasant friendly and helpful

Review 70:The breakfast buffet was mediocre at best. The continental breakfast was very limited. By 8:30 a.m., all of the baked goods were already gone. There was just toast and croissants and no other breads, just one type of cheese and one deli meat. The fruits were all canned. I expect more.

Review 71:The gym is high end. Big hotels don't have gyms with equipment this good.

Review 72:The staff seemed to be overwhelmed at times although they remained cheerful. A cracked coffee cup did not get the full apology it deserved .

Review 73:Very large, comfortable bed.

Review 74:Bathroom horrendous. Lovely & modern however when in shower/bath extremely slippy. Badly designed.

Review 75:Friendly staff lovely room. Evening dinner superb.

Review 76:The hotel make-over has not extended to all the bedrooms nor the swimming pool / changing area. The bedroom we were in was very tired: cheap carpet, ancient sanitary ware etc. The tiles around the pool were covered in grime. The ceiling above the pool had a massive water stain and the changing rooms were seriously grim. I actually got out of the pool quicker than I would have done, because it didn't feel hygienic. Once these areas have had some money spent on them, it will be a fantastic hotel.

Review 77:The entrance, dining room and general areas have obviously had a make-over recently. Beautifully decorated to a very high standard. Very good quality food (dinner & breakfast). Also, the staff were extremely friendly.

Review 78:Rooms 19-23 corridor noise due to access to leisure facilities.

Review 79:Good service, Room comfortable for price, breakfast excellent, evening menu good, option for use of leisure faciliies. Bed good.

Review 80:The reception area is a beautiful old mansion. The room additions are plain, unattractive, with no pictures on the walls and overall sad and boring.

Review 81:Breakfast was very nice and the view was lovely.

Review 82:Had a prom night on first night of our stay and wedding the second night, loud music till midnight in both nights could hear music word for word then when that stopped had a water tank filling above our heads, we were not warned of this before arrival! No sound proofing at all!! So bang went out relaxing weekend, would never stay again! Cleanliness was poor, mouldy shower head, shower screen and grout. cobwebs and weeds on the veranda and it needed pressure washing, It all look very grand on the website the entrance and hallways which they are but standard rooms need sorting out.

Review 83:The food was very good

Review 84:Only slight negative - no tissues were supplied in the bathroom and would have expected that for the cost. Also my wife would have liked conditioner shampoo as opposed to normal shampoo.

Review 85:Friendly staff, pet friendly (in bedroom only), nice suites - ours had a small external balcony and room was quite large. Location good - 10 minute walk into Falmouth centre - and car park ample to hold everyone who stays there. Breakfasts were excellent.

Review 86:A large convention were dining and felt a little less intimate as a result. Not a real issue though.

Review 87:The size of the bed.....enormous. Ambiance was a contemporary take on country house. Value for money. Friendly staff. Great gym.

Review 88:The room was dark, cell like and over furnished for its size. The shower gel had been used and was nearly empty. Although there were croissants and muffins at breakfast, the only bread was plain toaster ready bread ,the friendly waitress found me some granary from the kitchen but a selection of nice breads would have been an attraction. No pool towels so had to use the one in the room

Review 89:The staff were very helpful and friendly. Good parking. Beautiful entrance area. Apart from the lack of breads the breakfast food was good - apricots in particular.

Review 90:The bedroom block with narrow corridors was incongruous with the rest of the house. The rooms are very dated, tired and ordinary at best.

Review 91:The helpfulness of the staff and the appealing, relaxing style of the living quarters

Review 92:Room not ready at 2pm book in. Still not ready an hour later after an hour waiting and buying my own coffee. Decided to explore area instead of settling into room. 4 people booked in before and after us got their rooms straight away. Bathroom and shower looked nice but water pressure not very good for a good shower.

Review 93:Lovely area. Easy to reach shops, harbour and beach.

Review 94:I was booked into a single room; no. 23. It was dark with a large window backing onto a neighbouring car park which made it difficult to open during the night without the fear of someone entering the room. The bed was narrow with a synthetic duvet which had obviously been laundered until solid. Bathroom was desperate. No comfortable chair to sit in. No cushions and hair dryer not functioning properly. Toileteries provided were appalling. More like a student digs and charged at the same rate as rooms that had been upgraded. Not a good move.

Review 95:Good food and friendly staff

Review 96:Only one thing wrong with room, curtains would not close to stop sun at 5am.

Review 97:We only had an overnight stay but we were very happy with our room, the sea view was lovely and the bed very comfy. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 98:How quickly they sorted out a small complaint we had with the room furniture. there was only kitchen type wooden chairs in the room, but they added two nice comfy chairs on request.

Review 99:It is a little bit far from the part of the harbour where the restaurants and bars are located. It is about 15 minutes going up hill.

Review 100:The building is really beautiful. It has a nice and sunny dinning room for the breakfast, swimming pool and jacuzzi. The bedroom was spacious and it had a jacuzzi as well! We enjoyed a lot a nice bath after a whole day of walking. Great choice for breakfast.

Review 101:the shower in the en suite was poor but I think it was down to the low water pressure as our room was highest in the hotel.

Review 102:located about 10 minutes from town centre. Quiet location. We didn't use the pool and gym but it looked nice! Breakfast varied and offered a selection of hot dishes cooked fresh to order. The staff were lovely and friendly. We were given a room in the attic with a roof terrace which was comfy and airy. A relaxing stay!

Review 103:The room was fairly basic and a little tired. Seemed dusty.

Review 104:All of the staff were absolutely amazing. From a welcoming arrival, to breakfast time, or drinks at the bar, they were all as helpful and friendly as you could ask for. The general bar and restaurant area was beautiful, and felt very stylish and comfortable. A great place to sit and have a drink.

Review 105:The room needs updating as it was a bit chintzy and old fashioned. The swimming pool and changing rooms desperately needs updating. Our room (47) was above the swimming pool so it smelt of chlorine and there were dripping noises and mechanical noises also from the swimming pools below.

Review 106:The lounge, bar and restaurant were lovely. The staff were great and location was good. The bathroom in our bedroom was also nice.

Review 107:if we had to be picky, the shower in the bedroom was weak.

Review 108:The facilities were of a good standard, the food was incredible and the staff were lovely. Excellent hotel.

Review 109:The welcome was friendly and efficient, the Staff really do go out of their way to make your stay a pleasure, and the food was really wonderful. I was in Falmouth to deal with a difficult issue but left feeling uplifted.

Review 110:That we had to leave lol

Review 111:Beautiful rooms and very nice staff made us feel very welcome they couldn't do enough for us well pleased as I stay in hotels a lot but this is fare the best ever stayed in and will definitely be going back

Review 112:Nothing it was brilliant

Review 113:Amazing staff, beautiful boutique hotel & great breakfast - the best place to stay in Cornwall. Get the 5 star hotel treatment at an affordable price.

Review 114:The personal touch from the staff remembering who you were and what your preferences were or just small details which made you feel welcome and special.

Review 115:The shower in our room was very weak and the shower head kept drooping down, so we had to stand really close to the wall. I was also surprised when we returned to the hotel late at night that we weren't provided with more toiletries for the second night or any facial tissue in the room.

Review 116:This is our second stay. Breakfast is fabulous and still the best part of our stay there. There is ample parking and the heated pool (though dated) is a plus for grey and rainy days.

Review 117:Evening meals were over priced, for the portion size with vegetables being tasteless. Example chive mash, no taste of chives, Pear and potato gratin did not taste of anything. I had rhubarb and ginger crumble, two sticks of rhubarb were not cooked as I could not cut them with the spoon, there was no taste of ginger. Service at times was slow. The pre-meal tasters were excellent shame they were not on the menu.

Review 118:All members of staff were very helpful, friendly and polite. Well done.

Review 119:Found the plumbing noisy . The sound of water flowing in the pipes after toilets flushed and/or showers in adjacent rooms kept us awake .

Review 120:Great location , and food was really good.

Review 121:Spartan bedroom. Noise from revellers. Noisy workmen outside early morning on Saturday and Sunday.

Review 122:Staff were delightful. Good breakfasts. Hotel very well placed for our needs.

Review 123:We didn't rate the evening meals very highly: very ample portions but lacking in presentation and finesse.

Review 124:The friendliness of the staff. Very nice bedroom.

Review 125:Nothing - the whole stay was faultless in every respect

Review 126:The staff were fantastic - nothing was too much trouble and service was attentive without being fussy. The bedroom was lovely with comfortable bed and everything we needed. Our evening meal was special - great food, well presented.

Review 127:Staff couldn't do enough to make us welcome. Came to see our daughter for 21st birthday and and they really made it special for her. comfortable rooms and would loved to stay longer.Would definately stay again.

Review 128:Driveway and entrance shabby. Front door a struggle to get past. Room decor dated. Dubious stains on cushions. Forced to move rooms due to noisey party below. Had to share cruet with other tables.

Review 129:Used pool and gym. Decor in lobby was nice and probably original. Breakfast cooked to order and enjoyable. Restaurant good.

Review 130:The pool, jacuzzi and changing rooms were a little small and tired. Outside there was a sauna, but also very small.

Review 131:The hotel was very easy to find - on the main road in, yet only a 10 minute walk to beaches and the town cente. Very near the university campus, Woodlane.

Review 132:I was accosted in the swimming pool by a very verbally aggressive lady who insisted on swimming in HER LANE. I tried to move but failed to get out of her way. As an elderly slow swimmer this confrontation upset me considerably. I tried to apologise when I met her in the changing room but she was again aggressive (verbally) and finished by saying "as I was only a guest she would not see me again". I was only there for a pleasure swim whereas she was there for a training session. An onlooker remarked that she was "well out of order". This will not prevent me from recommending your hotel as it was absolutely wonderful, and I cannot wait to visit again.

Review 133:Everything except one of your club members' attitude.

Review 134:The pool and changing areas are desperately in need of a refurbishment.

Review 135:Friendly staff, good breakfasts, lovely open feeling bar and breakfast area with good views

Review 136:Hanna and Jan were particularly helpful at reception- venue was central, room was comfortable and the overall stay was brilliant! Could'nt recommend it enough

Review 137:Absolutely nothing

Review 138:We thought the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We met up with friends and had an evening meal which was excellent. The reception staff organised a taxi for friends, even waited outside as the taxi was late. We loved our stay and would love to come back for a weekend break.
