Reviews for Expanse Hotel

Review 1:Very poor reception. No advice offered on parking or location of rooms when given keys. Carpets and decor 'distressed' in places for what is the only decent hotel in Bridlington. (from an ex Bridlingtonian)

Review 2:Unsurpassable views! Comfortable warm lounge. Good food but relatively expensive. Very clean, especially room and bathroom. Very pleasant waiter at dinner.

Review 3:This hotel needs a refurbishment,worn carpets,holes in stair carpets,rooms now very dated .

Review 4:Good location on the North Bay .the attached Marine bar is good for food and drink.good breakfasts.

Review 5:Hotel half empty though still put us in an un refurbished room on 3rd floor? Why? Freezing cold room half lights not working... When we are regular customers too?who want to recommend and leave great reviews...

Review 6:My sister and myself 6 th trip Love this hotel when put in a nice warm room.. Breakfast amazing!

Review 7:the room was very warm (heating on) but i just opened the window. No problem really.

Review 8:the location was great. My room had a sea view and a balcony. I was on business the wifi was good and the room facilities what i would expect from this level of hotel.

Review 9:I found the mattress and pillows quite hard, which resulted in a bad nights sleep. Other places I have stayed in Bridlington offer parking permits, This was not available at the Expanse.

Review 10:Was only an overnight stay. Friendly and welcoming staff. Very enjoyable breakfast

Review 11:Overall I thought it was overpriced and outdated. Given that there was ample room ,I thought we should have been given a better room with a bath as requested.

Review 12:The location was ideal for us.

Review 13:The room was very well equipped, immaculate with wonderful views across Bridlington Bay towards the head land; really comfy bed and modern bathroom. An excellent choice at breakfast

Review 14:The bed and pillows were very hard and uncomfortable. Unfortunately the hotel was having some renovation work and the sea view was obstructed by net and scafolding! The hotel was looking alittle old in areas.

Review 15:Staff were very pleasant. Room was nicely decorated. Breakfast was great for a good appetite. Sea view.

Review 16:Lack of private parking. Many areas of the hotel looked 'tired' needing updating and decorating. Thought the cost was rather too high.

Review 17:The super location. With the exception of one female the staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 18:The structure of the hotel is tired

Review 19:The staff were amazing - they made very guest feel very special - nothing was too much trouble for them. Breakfast was outstanding - the classic full English !!!

Review 20:Booked superior double room with town view - unfortunately fault with room we were allocated-moved to another room although v.comfy was an internal room-no view.

Review 21:Enjoyed music in Marine Bar - food v.good - staff v.friendly. Comfortable seating.

Review 22:Parking some what of a problem but plenty of availability in the back streets behind the hotel. The bathroom is in need of some TLC,the shower certainly needs an upgrade as the water comes out more of a trickle than spray!

Review 23:Excellent view, comfortable beds, friendly staff with very good customer service. An excellent hotel, somewhat quaint but charming and very handy for the town.Overall a good place to stay when visiting Breezy Brid!

Review 24:Booking in receptionist could have been friendlier and more informative

Review 25:Friendly and happy staff at breakfast, Excellent Breakfast Nice sea view Large room

Review 26:Old sheets - bottom not fitted and kept working out Parking difficult

Review 27:Fresh air and view - been using over 40 years and can't resist looking right on sea. staff pleasant and friendly

Review 28:Not a bad experience but the parking was an issue.

Review 29:Because of family illness, we were desperate to get away for a couple of days. The Expanse could not have been better - the atmosphere was so relaxed and we felt very comfortable.

Review 30:With little space on site car parking can be difficult during high season. The single bed mattress springs were very squeaky

Review 31:A simple clean hotel with friendly staff

Review 32:The front door staff were excellent. Also the chef made us a bacon sandwich to take up to the room as my wife didn't want to go down for breakfast so not many hotels would do that so thank you very much.

Review 33:Kept having to sign into Wifi this was annoying. One sign in should have been enough as with most places.

Review 34:Friendly staff, excellent location, comfortable and great food!

Review 35:Parking facilities quite difficult but staff helpful in finding parking places.

Review 36:Super location. Wonderful sea view from our bedroom window. Good facilities in bedroom. Very helpful staff especially porter/handyman(Elliot)

Review 37:The decor is rather dated and we had a slight issue with unclean looking towels.

Review 38:The breakfast was great and the staff very pleasant. The sea view room was a good size and I loved the chairs in the windows. The lounge was also very comfortable.

Review 39:Exterior of hotel and outside balcony needed upgrading painting and cleaning up in general the building and entrance looking tired and old fashioned.

Review 40:Very clean modern bedroom and bathroom lovely sea views

Review 41:The bed was lumpy and the shower curtain plus the shower were not good. I have great difficulty bathing.

Review 42:The views from my room were excellent. The breakfast was very good.

Review 43:Redecoration looks like it's due on the upper floors, first floor looks recently decorated and nice, but the higher floors are looking tired.

Review 44:Overall a nice hotel, but it is very popular with the older generations. As a young family we were in the minority.

Review 45:Dissapointing evening meal, bathrooms old fashioned and in need of a revamp.Entrance to hotel very tatty, as is the furniture on terrace outside, hotel needs a refurbish.

Review 46:Breakfast was very good. Staff were friendly

Review 47:Disappointed with our evening meal. ordered fillet steak/medium , came well done, and only 1cm in thickness. Not served with salad or green veg.

Review 48:The location

Review 49:No parking. Ok as we found a space on the road, but had to pay on taking the car out on our return. Don't want to walk half a mile or more to the hotel.

Review 50:Lovely room, friendly staff, food excellent.

Review 51:* Emptying the sink caused waste water to backflow into the bath. * Wall mounted lights above desk did not work. * Air extraction unit on flat roof behind my room 37 was noisy throughout evening.

Review 52:* A good breakfast, served by very pleasant staff.

Review 53:No Parking. Staff laying dinner table while we were eating breakfast. Fruit Juice not replenished. Dinner very poor.

Review 54:Ideal location, clean and comfortable room

Review 55:If anything it's all a bit dated particularly the rooms which are basic by modern standards. The premium for a sea view is necessary to avoid this being a very average experience. Breakfast is very traditional and, again, pretty limited by a lot of standards though if you want fish or a full English you're well catered for.

Review 56:I know the Expanse well of old, it is a lovely building in a great location, views views views. Well laid out and in public areas comfortably appointed.

Review 57:No parking, bt you can park in the streets nearby.

Review 58:Nice to be beside the seaside but my room faced onto the balcony of flats next door. Staff are freindly.

Review 59:Hardly earth shattering, but I couldn't open the balcony door to enjoy the evening sunshine.

Review 60:As in most cycling tours, arriving at the finish (in this case, the way of the roses) was the main event. My bike was safely stowed in the hotel's garage.

Review 61:Good location. Bedroom comfortable and reasonable size for a single. Bathroom could do with being updated. Staff very friendly and efficient, and the food was excellent.

Review 62:Torrential rain on Sunday but the hotel have no control over the weather!

Review 63:Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. They go out of their way to ensure you are comfortable and that all your needs are met.

Review 64:Needs a complete overhaul inside and out to bring it into the 21st century, everything pretty shabby.

Review 65:Super location on beachfront. Stayed in the Burlington suite on the 4th floor - probably the best view in Bridlington

Review 66:The reception could be more welcoming and the lift is a bit pokey. Car parking is mainly on the street.

Review 67:Newly refurbished 'club' room - room 35 - is spacious, well equipped and comfortable with unbeatable views over the beach and Flamborough Head. The 'Super King Size' bed is the most comfortable ever.

Review 68:A great location for walking the headland way. You can catch the bus to Bempton village virtually outside the hotel. The breakfast was cooked to order and very nice and the view from my 4th story room was amazing.

Review 69:bedroom window facing the North Sea was locked part open. Wifi was dreadful. Very difficult to get login to display but receptionist was knowledgeable and helpful. Then it continuously logged out at irregular intervals - was so frustrating. No need for that in 2015! Copy McDonalds-all there UK branches have simple & excellent Wifi that ALWAYS works on first try! Had room 10 and very small for the price though en suite room excellent in every way.

Review 70:Hotel was warm and comfortable.

Review 71:The decor needs upgrading. The stairs on first floor definitely need some attention. Our bedroom, number 21only had 2 small windows to open and in hot weather, the room would get very stuffy and hot. We can't vouch for all the other rooms, but we recommend you enquire when booking. We didn't think to do this. Luckily the weather was mixed this easter. Although this sounds like nitpicking, we didn't get more showergel on second day.

Review 72:The overall feel of the hotel, seaview from our bedroom and breakfast room, freshly cooked breakfast. It was a good 15mins walk to centre of Bridlington, but we chose this location because of attending a friend's party. The area was also quieter. We easily found free parking on nearby streets.

Review 73:WI-FI was rather painful in that it kept logging you out constantly. Although rooms were spotless & very nice do think it was rather over priced but am assuming this was due to it been easter bank holiday.

Review 74:Really lovely friendly hotel situated right on the front. We had a lovely seaview room which was stunning. Breakfast is excellent with very friendly service. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 75:Was a lovely hotel doesn't look amazing from outside but inside looks beautiful our room was very luxurious and modern. Would definitely stay again

Review 76:Very poor attitude and response when we asked for service in the upstairs lounge - the young girl was moody, slow, argumentative and brusque. Nobody else was !!

Review 77:Wonderful facilities- a truly luxurious suite with a large very comfortable bed and excellent en-suite. Dining room staff and organisation truly exceptional.

Review 78:Staff on reception did nt make an effort when we checked out, could have asked if we d had an enjoyable visit etc etc. Did nt think they were even going to get out their chair! Room was very dated and slightly shabby.

Review 79:Nice breakfast, lots of choice. lovely traditional, art deco lounge. lovely fluffy towels. Sea view

Review 80:I think it was my android phone, but wifi was available. But my phone couldnt use it.However the staff do give you the password when you book in.

Review 81:Everything.Lovely room,fantastic bed and sheets,friendly staff,wonderful sea view.

Review 82:room décor needed some TLC due re dec, rooms to hot even with rad off and window open. 20/12/2014 parking could be a problem earlier in year when hotel full

Review 83:service excellent, reception very good, breakfast 5star in quality and quantity, main areas pleasant and tasteful décor, better than expected for Victorian town well past its sell buy date WE would not hesitate to use this hotel again to visit relatives

Review 84:Restaurant and the room. Loose floor board outside bedroom door which is at the top of the stairs. Every time someone passed it creaked. Bathroom door would not stay closed. No atmosphere in restaurant.

Review 85:Breakfast and the marine bar, oh, the bed was OK as well.

Review 86:The evening meal expensive and not very good. Because I was joined by some friends I did not complain. The gravy arrived at least 5 mins before the meal which was cold. The lamb was tough and fatty.

Review 87:Decoration and some furnituire in the room a little 'tired' - needs refurbishment. Room ( a 'Vale Deal') was fine for a short business trip, but not really for an extended stay.

Review 88:Location, right on the promenade, with a pleasant walk into central Bridlington and the possibility of walks along the coastal path. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 89:everything was just perfect. the staff so friendly, the food cooked to perfection.,A hotel the hotel inspector would be proud of! the hotel is in a perfect position with rooms overlooking the sea, what more could you want!!!

Review 90:The only thing we didn't like was the attitude of the receptionist on our departure. She was very sour faced. We departed at 11am on Thursday the 18th December.

Review 91:The bedroom was comfortable and the food was excellent. The Christmas decorations were superb, congratulations to the manager.

Review 92:Intimidating reception Hotel charged top hotel price but didn't meet top hotel room standard

Review 93:Friendly helpful staff Excellent tasty food that was really good value for money Comfortable bed Fabulous view out to sea

Review 94:The portions of food at dinner were rather too large - despite asking for a small portion and sometimes sauces etc were overbearing. perhaps a small jug /bowl of sauce to accompany the food would be kinder.

Review 95:The accommodation and the comfort of the room. The fantastic view, the delight of the other guests (people-watching is a hobby!) the ease of accessibility and parking and the friendly yet unobtrusive attention of all the staff.Wonderful breakfast.

Review 96:As mentioned the wallpaper was coming off in a couple of places

Review 97:The room was very comfortable and clean inspite of the wallpaper needing some attention The food was excellent for a function menu and the breakfast was just the job. The staff were very polite and helpful. I will certainly stay there again.

Review 98:The owner just sat at his desk waiting for his staff to check us in instead of attending to us himself!@

Review 99:The breakfast was good and the staff at breakfast very pleasant.

Review 100:problem with hot water to room on both nights but every effort was made to put this right. reduction of bill to make amends on leaving.

Review 101:The hotel was:- warm comfortable clean friendly

Review 102:An arrangement could be made perhaps a short term permit for parking in the area around the hotel! Parking in Bridlington is very short stay, the local council should realise this puts visitors off supporting the local shops and hotels.

Review 103:Willing staff, no sad faces, Excellent food, comfortable bedroom, we were in a room with a new bathroom, excellent. As it was Saturday evening when we arrived we found some parking without moving the car about. We would definitely stay again.

Review 104:tired decor in the room, sideboard unit looked like it had been chewed by a dog !! No parking , room too hot even with the radiator turned off

Review 105:The view

Review 106:The hotel, which is Art Deco in style ticked every box for us. Excellent service, friendly staff, good food - generous portions, large sea view room, comfortable bed, lots of storage, large modern bathroom with walk-in shower, all spotlessly clean. Opening windows and no aircon--a definite plus for us.

Review 107:Dirty chair, dirty cut in the bathroom and dirty fingerprints all over the place. Looked like it needed a good clean. Still the bed was clean which is the most important thing.

Review 108:Comfortable clean bed, good sized room with lovely views over the sea.

Review 109:The staff without being rude seemed to want to make you wait. Despite being at the reception counter, three times I had to wait while two members of staff continued what appeared to be un-work related conversations. I also had to wait a number of times at the bar despite the staff knowing I was there, once three to four minutes. I found ths rude and unaceptable

Review 110:The old style feel of the Hotel which has not changed over may years that I have stayed there.

Review 111:Nothing readily springs to mind

Review 112:Dining room very good with great seaviews. Very good breakfast menu, which set us up for a good days walk along the coast. Good choice of beers and good food in the Marine Bar.

Review 113:Shower took ages to get barely hot enough. Electric fan heater didnt work after a warm shower. Door wouldn't close properly. Crumbs under bed and down side of chair. Most miserable barman ever.

Review 114:Location

Review 115:The breakfasts are excellent, the staff warm and gracious, regardless of how busy they are, remaining personable and helpful to everyone. The view to the sea is wonderful, and it's a lovely 10 minute walk along the sea wall to the centre.

Review 116:I suggest that attention be given to the terrible state of the entrance steps. They are cracked, out of line in places etc. This is the visitors first view of the Hotel and not a good one

Review 117:Restaurant staff.

Review 118:The hotel has a small car park, if there are no spaces then you would need to park in the bays across the road and pay the daily rate.

Review 119:This is such a lovely, friendly and traditional hotel. This is my third stay and it gets better with each stay. The staff are a real credit to the hotel, always friendly and very helpful. Food in the restaurant is excellent.

Review 120:Wasn't as good as our first stay, ie: cleanliness, lamps still broken, soiled towels left in bathroom, unhelpful reception staff-clearly unhappy in their job!

Review 121:Friendly breakfast staff & porter, location, wifi & breakfast.

Review 122:There was really nothing i didn/t like during my stay

Review 123:im a disabled person and booked at the 11th hour.I was able to park very close to the hotel and booked in my room was on the 4th floor not a problem there is a lift just avoid at busy times as it effective but small. The room is singe 45 sea view even from bathroom everything you need iron and board safe tv desk fr writing table and arm chair plenty of space in room and bathroom slightly tired walls but lets face it its the end of season with time to repair little niggles staff and meals very effective hot food and dirty plates removed . Will use again no problem really enjoyed my stay there .

Review 124:View of suburban street rather than sea was disappointing given advance online booking. Further than easily walkable from town centre - but centre so grim I was glad to drive back.

Review 125:The food and service. The lift. The real ale in the adjacent bar. Quiet.

Review 126:The rooms were dated and dirty .. The shower barely worked and the towels were dirty. The cooks food at breakfast was disgusting .. I've worked away from home for over twenty years and this has to be the worst place I've stayed in .. Seriously !!!

Review 127:Didn't like anything I'm afraid.. After paying £130 per night I would have expected a hell of a lot more

Review 128:Waterproof mattress covers caused us to overheat. Double-glazing seals in Burlington Suite had gone; given the high price I would expect these to be in perfect condition.

Review 129:Real ales in the Marine Bar Excellent breakfast Nice public rooms Lovely views of the sea and coastline.

Review 130:No Bath? I looked at the online website prior to booking and the web pictures showed a Bath (as I find this preferential to a 'shower') - but the 'Sea View Room only had a shower (and the shower was tiny)?

Review 131:Cannot fault the Hotel's location - right on the Seafront at Bridlington. Stayed in a Sea View room which was worth the 'little extra' paid for an amazing view of Bridlington Bay

Review 132:Having mobility problems I was suprised to find that the lift was unable to accommodate a wheelchair. (Defeats the object of a lift !!!) I was unable to use the main entrance with my wheelchair due to steps. I booked this hotel because it stated it was disabled friendly.

Review 133:Having one side of the bed against a wall in the single room.

Review 134:The view was excellent. I requested to stay an extra night and was upgraded to a twin room with plenty of space.

Review 135:The slow lift to the 4th floor. With the hotel still being renovated the untouched areas still seem very tired but I am sure that we be improved upon in due course.

Review 136:The staff were excellent and very accommodating as we were attending a funeral with other close relatives who were also staying at the hotel. It was good to see the rooms were being renovated at last to a high standard. This was our fifth visit in 11 years. Breakfast was VG.

Review 137:Our room was one of the cheapest so was an internal view and we could hear a fan intermittently through the night. However we were very happy with the accommodation considering what we paid

Review 138:The staff were welcoming, friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable.

Review 139:View obscured due to windows needing replaced. Try and market to younger guests.

Review 140:Room lovely, food varied, excellent and well presented. Good choice at breakfast, and very welcoming and friendly staff.
