Reviews for The Royal Hotel

Review 1:Bed was broken, couldn't sleep. Heating turned off in room despite snowing outside. Receptionist unhelpful. Told after stay had breakfast included, not mentioned on checking in. Room not ready at check in.

Review 2:Location

Review 3:Games room could do with being updated, new dart board and furniture etc

Review 4:Beautiful, room and food was excellent, Breakfast food was plenty to choose from, and the indian restaurant was lovely!

Review 5:I thought the bed quilts were a bit on the small side and would have liked a top sheet, if i had been staying longer i would have asked for one, that i'm sure would have been supplied.

Review 6:The food was good and very reasonably priced, the room was a good size and clean.

Review 7:Hotel needs a little work wall paper torn, mirror on dressing table broke, only a heated towel rail in bath room but cold. Attention to dusting dust behind head board and dirty makeup wipe cobwebs in various places in room.

Review 8:Location, comfort and value for money.

Review 9:As mentioned we are frequent stayers at the Royal and would highly recommend a visit but on the occasion however I found the receptionist VERY miserable on arrival and somewhat abrupt! Shame due to the effort of others!

Review 10:We are frequent visitors at the Royal due to its great location and warm atmosphere. The hotel is great value for money and most enjoyable!

Review 11:The bed was too short I am 5.8 and my legs were hung out at the bottom of the bed so if your 5 4 you should be fine was nor a standard double bed day we arrived reception not very welcoming very corporate welcome even though we were jolly

Review 12:Liked the location and how grand it looks

Review 13:Small superior room large bed but was infront of window tall headboard stopped you seeing seaview unless you were standing up .only 1 chair for 2 people and no hairdryer .

Review 14:No bad experience, some staff where very helpful, however the breakfast staff were cheerful but highly inefficient. Buffet not renewed in a timely manner, and looking for a table took some time, despite the lack of anyone sat on the tables. Told two tables were taken but not directed to alternatives.

Review 15:Location on the edge of the holiday area, however facing the sea. Roomy hotel, clean and functional. Food was ok, ate in the Bollywood Restaurant and had the Indian menu, breakfast was also good.

Review 16:I had to ask for a hair dryer for my room. I asked for a sandwich to be sent to my room and I was told to go to the local corner shop round the back of the hotel for a sandwich as the kitchen in the hotel was closed. It was early afternoon! I did not get my alarm call and was told by the person who forgot to make the call that they were busy with something else. No apology was given. A loud singer was booked to be making a lot of noise in the hotel until 11.30pm. I did not know about this noise but the racket woke me up! I could not get any sleep - having needed an early night following a long drive. I was offered a room change far too late- after my complaint - when I was already in bed, in my nightie, having unpacked everything. I should never have been put in that noisy room in the first place, having explained that I was hoping for a quiet early night having travelled for 9 hours. No apology was made. Nothing was taken off my bill. The breakfast was utterly tasteless and the doors to the breakfast room were locked until a 7.30am start. Too late for some busy travellers. The staff were all pretty unsupportive.

Review 17:Getting in my car and driving as far away from this terrible hotel as possible.

Review 18:Room 319 the smallest room we have ever been given cudnt sleep as room was far to hot even with the window open toilet and shower was in a 4 foot square to sit on the loo you had to put your feet in the shower tray Breakfast was even worse total chaos

Review 19:The Location have stayed here many times over the past few years

Review 20:Some staff weren't that happy. Showers head had lime scale build up eh oh meant water went everywhere & the water wasn't that hot. The heating didn't work in the room.

Review 21:Location. Size of room. Free wifi. Bath in room

Review 22:If I had to be picky I would say could have done with a couple more plug sockets

Review 23:There was nothing not to like the staff were friendly the food was great the overall stay was fantastic will be going again and would recommend to people looking for a great place

Review 24:the staff were very friendly and helpful. room clean and spacious very comfy bed. excellent value for money, will be going back again in the summer for a longer stay.

Review 25:Receptionist very rude never a smile or a hello, or a goodbye In fact she didn't speak you only see the top of her head it was only one young receptionist, shame she spoilt it all.

Review 26:Breakfast, staff, rooms, meals in general.

Review 27:this was the worst stay we have ever had at this hotel the bed was broken the mattress was lumpy and the pillows were so cheap they may as well have not been on the bed they gave no support what so ever, whats going on ROYAL !!!!!!!

Review 28:The staff are always welcoming and this is one of many stays

Review 29:Indian restaurant was a disappointment advertised as best in Skegness which was one of the reasons we booked but it was just ok staff not over helpful or jolly and atmosphere dull

Review 30:Room was comfortable for 1 night

Review 31:We booked a double bed and were given twin beds pushed together with an ill-fitting duvet The shower room was very small, and the shower unit meant you couldn't move well in it at all. I know the cleaners have to do their job but banging on our door at 9am is a definite no no when you are on holiday !!!!

Review 32:Plenty of car parking spaces The room was quite large

Review 33:Extremely small bathrooms .. when you view website it's very desieving showing a bathroom with a bath

Review 34:Friendly staff .. excellent food. . Good location

Review 35:Our room was on the bottom floor under the back car park. The entertainment could of been better. And it could do with a lick of paint - updating.

Review 36:The staff was friendly. The breakfast was good. The location was near the centre of Skegness.

Review 37:the heating did not work in the room. we were supplied with a portable heater. There was a disco until midnight immediately beneath our room The shower head was broken

Review 38:Very ornate but tired looking building

Review 39:Booked months in advance requesting upper floor room but given lower floor. Rooms dated, dark and dingy, bathroom too small, Small bar stock out of date, continued to sell Coke mixer like syrup each time barman said 'nothing he could'do' but still charged for drinks. No attempt to bring bottle or cans of soft drinks to stock bar all evening. Training issues??? Expected higher standards

Review 40:Breakfast ok some staff pleasant. However staff on duty from previous evening nothing short of turning milk sour!

Review 41:Not had a bad experience latley.that was being locked out one night ..in winter not happy..

Review 42:The relaxing atmosphere in the lounge .entertainment. .always try the royal first for a stay..

Review 43:Nothing to dislike would stay again

Review 44:We stayed one night when we went to the embassy theatre We found the hotel very clean and staff very friendly excellent breakfast served next morning Thanks every one

Review 45:the bed was very uncomfortable and hard, also not enough pillows,.

Review 46:friendly staff, good on site restaurants. a good large clean room.the indian restaurant was really good and so was the breakfast.

Review 47:Staff very friendly, food in restaurant for evening meal excellent and very well priced, breakfast was excellent too, rooms clean , bed comfy, beautiful hotel.

Review 48:Nothing !!!!!!!!

Review 49:Everything about our stay was EXCELLENT, the location of the hotel is perfect, bar had a great selection of beverages, breakfast was buffet style, and was well placed in the dining room, our bedroom was spacious with an en suite bathroom which had a bath with shower over both of which were very clean and well presented. The hotel is very well run by friendly and welcoming staff from reception to waiting staff, we also had an Indian meal at the attached restaurant which was very kindly booked for us by our receptionist. Thank You Martin & Janet (we have already booked another short weekend break for our anniversary)

Review 50:No socket near kettle (in our room). To use it would mean putting either on the floor or on a bedside cabinet next to table lamp and curtains, neither of which are safe.

Review 51:Good value for money. Nice food.

Review 52:NA

Review 53:Already returning again next month. Also booked four special week-ends for next year. Accommodation , staff, restaurants. Best location in Skegness.

Review 54:N/a

Review 55:Lovely place, food in viceroys amazing!!! I had Irish lamb shanks it was awesome. Bed comfy. Staff and bar staff very friendly, we shall definately go again......

Review 56:Sleeping in a little bed That was 12 inches to short for me Sleeping seperate to my Mrs The unhelpfulness of the staff

Review 57:We've stayed here on at least three prior occasions and always found it very good. This was a special weekend for my partner and I and my 11 year old daughter, as it marked five years since we started dating. Due to a mess up with rooms (full details entered on booking along with child age and room requirements) I ended up sleeping in a double bed with my daughter and my partner in a foot too short pokey single bed about ten rooms away - so much for the romantic break Reception, despite knowing the situation, were unsympathetic and unhelpful and said we should've rang to book. i quite clearly added myself my partner and added the age of the child to the booking

Review 58:No bad experience at all

Review 59:The staff were very pleasant and kind always willing to help. The room was clean and were very impressed with the room considering its a basic room. We whould go again and recomend it to everyone we know

Review 60:The facilities were excellent although. The fabric of the building needed a little work, my only criticism would be the shower screens weren't big enough, when I had a shower I wet he bathroom floor thoroughly

Review 61:Nothing

Review 62:The hotel was amazing. The location, the hotel itself and the rooms were great. Ours had a balcony overlooking the gardens. The food was fantastic and the value for the stay was staggering I can't believe what we paid for the service etc we received. The staff made us feel so at home and nothing was too much trouble. I can safely say it is one of the best hotels we have ever been to and we have already booked again for next year. Didn't want to go home.

Review 63:So sixties! 8(( Needs investment but good thing is great if you love RAF HISTORY - has some interesting association and memorabillia - jets flying over very occasionally too

Review 64:Still out of the sixties and very basil fawlty but if you like Skeg nice position for beach walking --for a leisure hotel they need to extend breakfast serving time or offer room service!!!!

Review 65:Being kept awake when returning to you room by the occupants in the next room ?102 having there tv set on very loudly I was getting fed up listing to jim bowen the darts show, Bulls eye.

Review 66:The location of the hotel being close to the bars/night life and golf courses.

Review 67:Remember to go in for entertainment as they don't let you know when it is ready for you. We waited one nigh f2f for door to open and were late

Review 68:Took mum in wheelchair. It was a super hotel and staff were great. Was able to upgrade to half board

Review 69:The bathroom was very small would have liked a bath the couple we went with they had a big bath and king size bed there room was alot better than ours

Review 70:The food is very good and the service is very good it was nice and quiet in the evenings

Review 71:Hotel was too hot especially in breakfast room . No spare plug points inthe room for chargers . Toilet not working/flushing problem and adrain/sewer issue in bathroom as in smell

Review 72:Location and the Bollywood restaurant

Review 73:Could have done with a second chair in the bedroom as one of us had to lounge on the bed while watching TV. Not good when pensioner!!!!

Review 74:Excellent three day stay. Food in English restaurant was delicious & reasonably priced. Staff were friendly, courteous & caring.

Review 75:The basement room was very dark. The decor was depressing,it needs to be updated. The grouting in the bathroom needs a good cleaning and the hairdryer was totally unusable as all the wiring was disconnected.

Review 76:The breakfast was very good.

Review 77:I ordered beef Diane "with slow-cooked succulent pieces of tender beef" (or similar) from the Viceroy restaurant menu for my evening meal. What I was served seemed to be two-day old chunks of steak with the texture of boot-leather, with a hefty dollop of a glutinous cook-in sauce on top. Which was a shame, as the tomato soup for starter was fine, if a little sweet for my palate, and the apple crumble with custard for dessert was good.

Review 78:The hotel was fine, furnished in the colonial style. if a little threadbare here and there. Staff were helpful and friendly, bar had a well kept Bateman's bitter on handpump. Room (416) was comfortable with a sea view and spacious bathroom with an excellent shower. The hotel, unusually for those I've tried in the area, has ample car parking.

Review 79:Some areas looked tatty and the bed was a little hard for my liking, breakfast was ok but a little dry and bland

Review 80:Location is great a short walk from the centre

Review 81:The hotel could do with a good lick of paint and cleanliness was not up to scratch the room we stopped in was ok but the on sweet bathroom had a real fusty smell to it

Review 82:The breakfast was excellent and location was good

Review 83:the food was fantastic and room clean and adequate for our needs a few little things like wi fi in the bedrooms and complementary bottle water in room would go down well

Review 84:This hotel is looking a little tired and could do with a bit of TLC.

Review 85:Nice attentive staff and a lovely breakfast, within a nice walking distance of the main attractions.

Review 86:needs a good decorating old and outdated this would be a fantastic hotel given tender loving care

Review 87:Loads of free parking. Had a good stay at the royal room nice and clean, lovely gardens breakfast plentyful enjoyed, will use again in the future family had a good time thanks to all

Review 88:the room we had had a small shower room. To go to the toilet you were wedged between the wall and the shower wall. A larger person would have struggled to fit. there was no window in the shower room and it smelt worse than a urinal in a night club. This really ruined our experience and we have visited the hotel before and not had a problem

Review 89:hotel is nice and friendly. Good location. clean but tatty in places in main building.

Review 90:The singer on monday night was the worst entertainer/singer We have ever heard! spoilt the night as we looked forward to entertainment thats why we chose the royal. Indian Restaurant closed on a monday??? the only night we stayed very disappointed

Review 91:great staff, sea view room, great food with varied dinner menu. free parking,

Review 92:Stayed in room 108 not vacuumed. at breakfast they served us all with really sour milk, I am a diabetic and was taking my tablets when I took a drink of this milk and could not swallow them and had to spit them on my plate and had to leave at 8.30am as felt really poorly and did not have any spare tablets with me so we had a real bad experience and it ruined our anniversary and my wife is still upset today

Review 93:evening meal was fantastic

Review 94:Bath tap in shower at face height stuff left in wardrobe and draws room disturbed when not there not as clean as expected. Sausage at breakfast disgusting. Have to ore order eggs

Review 95:we couldnt get a table for dinner so had to walk into town, also the breakfast was ,nt very good quality the bacon was very dry and the sausage tough and burnt and these were really poor quality

Review 96:the hotel was fine ,room was clean and tidy ,nice staff

Review 97:Bed was not very comfortable a big to firm fir me

Review 98:Liked the hotel in general very spacious room, very clean, beautiful grounds, good location and pleasant staff, good choice of breakfast

Review 99:Room very small unable to open widow due to extractor fan being outside my window. Not able to check in at time given by web site.breakfast was poor quality and extremely hot in the dining room when O checked out no one asked how my stay was there was no acknowledgment at all.The hotel 5years ago was lovely I feel that standards have droped this is disappointing lots of little niggles if these were worked on I'm sure it would be a lovely hotel again.

Review 100:I must say that bar Steward was very helpful even getting me a jug of ice cold water for my room when he saw I was too hot in the dining room.

Review 101:It was a lovely, clean hotel. The food here was excellent as where the staff. The bedrooms where quite basic but defiantly fine and do the job. Location was great, only a short walk to the town and there was plenty of free parking.

Review 102:Nothing whatsoever to dislike..

Review 103:Carefree stay with no problems . Breakfast was value for money as its self service but lots of staff around to help out. Also in a quiet area within a few minutes walk to Clock Tower.

Review 104:Hotel was lovely but in desperate need of abit of love! Had a meal at the Bollywood Restaurant due to all the positive reviews but we didn't enjoy anything we ate. Dry, overcooked and most definitely over seasoned with salt and sugar

Review 105:Reception Staff were friendly Room was nice

Review 106:Shower cubicle was slightly small, could have been a little bigger. Also wifi wasn't great on the fourth floor.Worked on all other floors.so shouldn't really complain.

Review 107:Central to the town.Hotel was lovely, staff were very helpful.they couldn't do enough for us.Food was excellent.

Review 108:a car park that you can just drive into, rooms lovely clean and comfy, beds lovely and very comfy. a lovely cooked breakfast . All the staff very welcoming , stayed here before and will do again

Review 109:Only 1 negative for me and that was the bed was too hard. Having said which, I slept like a log.

Review 110:Loved everything, it's a great hotel with friendly approachable staff. We will go again and definitely get a room with a balcony it was unexpected on our first visit and we loved it.

Review 111:Pre-cooked breakfast not as good as dinner the previous evening, but the staff for both were excellent!

Review 112:Facilities were good as were accessibility to and within the hotel and parking. It was our second stay and will not be our last!

Review 113:Menu in restaurant. Hard Bed. Foisty Smell. could not get served in bar as there was a Wedding reception using the same Bar & only 1 person serving.

Review 114:changed room Saturday morning didn't realise I had left expensive shower gel in bathroom .when I approached house keeping staff ,iwas told it had been thrown away as rubbish surely if staff moved my bags they would have noticed this was my property disappointed too say the least with response I received did annoy me.

Review 115:location to beach lovely hotel needs modernising but I would stay here again

Review 116:only down side was the waiting time between courses in the indian resturant but the food wow o wow ace :):):):):)

Review 117:the staff are friendly and nothing is to much bother

Review 118:Everything was fine.

Review 119:Location was excellent. The grounds were lovely to relax and have a drink. Plenty of parking. The bar, restaurants and reception area were decorated lovely and the bar was really comfortable. The breakfast was good and the meal we had in the Bollywood restaurant was excellent. WiFi was the best we have experienced in our stays away. Nice big comfortable bedroom overlooking the gardens and sea. The furnishings in the bedroom were a bit tired and the bathroom needed updating a bit but there was nothing majorly wrong. Overall we had a lovely stay and would certainly return to the Royal.

Review 120:No food 2 while 7 pm..as came back to hotel hoping for a nice cream tea..but nothing available..

Review 121:The staff are a good team..nice to see them enjoying their job.

Review 122:I think I covered what I didn't like in the other box.

Review 123:Most of the staff were fantastic but the mature woman who checked us in was pretty awful and when we checked out we found we had been blocked in by a car, we were not in a hurry so we sat in the sunshine outside for a while then I went inside to see if the extremely inconsiderate owner could be traced and that woman was on the front desk and just said she didn't know who's it was a flicked through a few recent check in's, by the time 2.5 hrs had passed I was getting a little fed up but fortunately a nice young lady came to our rescue and said "I will see if it's anyone here for Sunday lunch" moments later a member of staff that had been waiting at breakfast came out walked across the car park and move her Audi and didn't even apologise and went back in. It's is such a shame as the hotel was very nice and the bar staff excellent and vey entertaining but that one woman who clearly doesn't enjoy her job spoiled what would of been a lovely stop over. Room was spotless as was the restaurant, bar and toilets the night porter was a fantastic guy and really friendly but that one member of staff that didn't attend charm school put a fly in the ointment. I would definitely stay there again, you can't dam a whole business for one employee or maybe she is overworked and was having a really bad day.

Review 124:early check out of 10.30.Although this is typical of a seaside hotel.

Review 125:Location is fantastic as you are off the main strip and views are great. lovely Indian restaurant onsite and a pleasant enough buffet style breakfast.

Review 126:The bathroom was too small. The shower was totally inadequate and wash basin was too small

Review 127:Lovely hotel in nice grounds. Friendly staff large airy rooms

Review 128:Enjoyed the hotel, good location, food was excellent, ate in the Bollywood restaurant and in viceroys, would recommend both places, breakfast was good as you helped yourself and would stay again

Review 129:The dog in the room next door. The whole in the celing in the games room. Flys on the window ledge in the bar area The whole hotel needs updating inside

Review 130:The location of the hotel. The staff very friendly. The breakfast was fabulous. The outside of the hotel looks lovely

Review 131:We liked the idea of the choice of restaurants .We went to the bollywood restaurant two nights which was excellent. And the steak bar and grill another night which again was excellent .very impressed altogether.

Review 132:Excellent stay from start to finish, great value for money, rooms great standard and lots of room, breakfast had a great selection and cooked to a good standard, staff really friendly, good location near to the town centre and lots of parking available. Will be returning there soon

Review 133:The only fault which wasn't really an issue was the key. Having to hand it in prior to leaving the hotel at any point was at first a little annoying but we understood it was for security.

Review 134:The overall comfort and hospitality was outstanding. The room was spectacular with little improvements (window broken), the breakfast was brilliant and the times were suitable to all guest.

Review 135:Having to go down stairs to lower floor, but expected to be on 'ground floor', not offered an option.

Review 136:The location, cleanliness and (mostly) pleasant and obliging staff.

Review 137:The hotel has a mixed decor eastern and traditional - this didn't work as a mix - the Bollywood restaurant could be made more eastern where as the traditional architecture could be left in its original state ... Looks like the decorators couldn't make their mind up what theme and subsequently spoils the grandness of the hotel

Review 138:Staff were good but too few of them
